- 0:09Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on everybody? Welcome into another episode of
- 0:12Speaker 1: The check Odaily. It's Andrew to check O, Eagles beat
- 0:15Speaker 1: reporter for insidebirds dot Com.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Here with you.
- 0:18Speaker 1: And before we get into today's topic for the podcast,
- 0:21Speaker 1: which will be revisiting the Eagles twenty twenty three draft class,
- 0:26Speaker 1: I just want to very quickly say Happy Father's Day
- 0:29Speaker 1: to all the fathers out there. Hope you enjoy your weekend.
- 0:32Speaker 1: And that being said, they say the true measure of
- 0:37Speaker 1: a draft class can only be made after three seasons,
- 0:41Speaker 1: and the Eagles had a very fruitful draft haul in
- 0:44Speaker 1: twenty twenty three, and it started with Jalen Carter. So
- 0:49Speaker 1: what I want to do today is go through each
- 0:51Speaker 1: of their draft picks, what they've done, their outlook going
- 0:55Speaker 1: into twenty twenty six, and then kind of just offer
- 0:58Speaker 1: some musings here. I alluded to the Eagles with pick
- 1:02Speaker 1: number nine selected defensive tackle Jalen Carter out of the
- 1:05Speaker 1: University of Georgia and Jalen Carter depending on who you ask.
- 1:11Speaker 1: In my opinion I can speak for. I thought Jayalen
- 1:14Speaker 1: Carter was the best player in that draft, certainly a
- 1:16Speaker 1: top two player in that draft, and the Eagles were
- 1:20Speaker 1: able to get him at pick number nine. He's played
- 1:23Speaker 1: in forty three games starting twenty seven. He's a two
- 1:27Speaker 1: time Pro Bowler. He was a second team All Pro
- 1:31Speaker 1: in twenty twenty four. The Eagles probably don't get to
- 1:34Speaker 1: the Super Bowl without Jayalen Carter's dominance in key moments
- 1:38Speaker 1: against the Rams at.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Home in that snow game.
- 1:41Speaker 1: But Jalen Carter twenty five tackles for lost, thirty seven
- 1:45Speaker 1: quarterback hits, thirteen and a half sacks, four forced fumbles.
- 1:49Speaker 1: I talked about his accolades, and this is a player
- 1:52Speaker 1: who has flashed sustainable moments of dominance. There's times where
- 1:58Speaker 1: he single handedly will take over game and you see
- 2:01Speaker 1: the power that he brings, the violence, the athleticism, the strength,
- 2:08Speaker 1: and just the mobility.
- 2:10Speaker 2: That he has for a pretty burly defensive tackle. A
- 2:16Speaker 2: lot of athleticism.
- 2:17Speaker 1: You don't often come across players like that, and I
- 2:20Speaker 1: viewed Jalen Carter among.
- 2:22Speaker 2: The elite at his position.
- 2:24Speaker 1: He will well we'll talk about the contract part of
- 2:27Speaker 1: it in a moment here, but Jalen Carter is someone
- 2:30Speaker 1: that you've seen there's evidence there of dominance.
- 2:33Speaker 2: And so you look back on last season.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Last season Jalen Carter was hindered by injuries in both shoulders.
- 2:44Speaker 1: He had the heel injury that kept him out of
- 2:46Speaker 1: the Eagles Giants game. That was the one that met life.
- 2:51Speaker 1: But he didn't have the great season last year and
- 2:54Speaker 1: he was playing through it. That after the Bears game
- 2:57Speaker 1: is really where you know, came to light a little
- 3:01Speaker 1: bit that he was dealing with something, and that Bears
- 3:04Speaker 1: game sort of epitomized the season that Jay when Carter
- 3:06Speaker 1: had you don't often see you never see jaywhen Carter
- 3:11Speaker 1: sort of get pushed around at the line of scrimmage.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Clearly something wasn't right, and it turns out that it wasn't.
- 3:17Speaker 1: So you go into twenty twenty six and the Eagles
- 3:22Speaker 1: did pick up Jay when Carter's fifth year extension. He's
- 3:25Speaker 1: playing in the last year of his rookie deal, and
- 3:30Speaker 1: so you look at his situation and Jeffrey Simmons from
- 3:34Speaker 1: the Tennessee Titans was just paid on Friday afternoon, So
- 3:38Speaker 1: naturally that directly impacts Jaywen Carter, who's awaiting a new contract,
- 3:46Speaker 1: a long term deal. And while I believe the Eagles
- 3:49Speaker 1: will eventually get it done, I'm not so sure that
- 3:51Speaker 1: there would.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Be a rush.
- 3:53Speaker 1: But this is a player that I view as a
- 3:56Speaker 1: centerpiece for this defense and for the foreseeable future. There's
- 4:01Speaker 1: always going to be questions when it comes to the shoulders.
- 4:04Speaker 1: So I think if you're the Eagles, it would make
- 4:06Speaker 1: a lot of sense to wait and see how he returns.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Does he return to the dominant player he was prior
- 4:12Speaker 1: to the shoulders ailments and Kenny continue to exhibit signs
- 4:19Speaker 1: of growing maturity. And if you think back to the
- 4:22Speaker 1: first game last season, you can't get ejected spitting on
- 4:26Speaker 1: another player.
- 4:27Speaker 2: That just can't happen. You can't do that. You have
- 4:29Speaker 2: to have more restraint as a player.
- 4:31Speaker 1: And Jalen Carter is a great guy, tremendous guy, but
- 4:35Speaker 1: when he gets on the field, that's where the switch
- 4:38Speaker 1: is flipped and you have to be mindful of those things.
- 4:41Speaker 1: You have to make sure that you're being detailed behind
- 4:43Speaker 1: the scenes as well. He's a young guy, but those
- 4:48Speaker 1: I guess you can call it a maturity issue there
- 4:51Speaker 1: that you want to continue to monitor and see that
- 4:54Speaker 1: he's trending in the right direction. And then, of course,
- 4:58Speaker 1: front and center, you want to see how he respect
- 5:00Speaker 1: after a season in which his shoulders were hampering his performance.
- 5:05Speaker 1: So I think Jalen Carter's gonna have a really nice
- 5:09Speaker 1: bounce back season.
- 5:10Speaker 2: That's what I'm projecting.
- 5:11Speaker 1: I think you're going to see a motivated Jalen Carter
- 5:14Speaker 1: who's going to remind everybody of the player that he
- 5:17Speaker 1: is in case they forgot. But I picked him as
- 5:20Speaker 1: my Eagle sack leader last season. I thought he would
- 5:23Speaker 1: have double digits. Obviously that didn't happen. But I don't
- 5:27Speaker 1: know that I'm going to go that strong in my
- 5:29Speaker 1: prediction this year, but I do believe that you're going
- 5:32Speaker 1: to see the impactful Jalen Carter that everyone's grown accustomed
- 5:38Speaker 1: to sing and he is viewed as one of the
- 5:41Speaker 1: top players at his position. So that's Jalen Carter. Then
- 5:45Speaker 1: you get to Nolan Smith, who was drafted thirtieth overall.
- 5:48Speaker 1: He's played in forty five games, twenty two starts, ten
- 5:52Speaker 1: and a half sacks, twenty five quarterback hits.
- 5:57Speaker 2: And Nolan Smith, if you.
- 6:00Speaker 1: Think about it, he was viewed as an undersized edge
- 6:03Speaker 1: rusher when he was selected. He gets to Philadelphia, he
- 6:06Speaker 1: plays so much bigger and with more force than someone
- 6:10Speaker 1: of his build would suggest, and he's listed at two
- 6:13Speaker 1: thirty eight. Looks like he got stronger this offseason, but
- 6:17Speaker 1: the sack numbers haven't been there with Nolan Smith. But
- 6:19Speaker 1: what I have noticed really in year two and year
- 6:23Speaker 1: three is that Nolan Smith kind of reminds me of
- 6:28Speaker 1: a throwback player. He's willing to throw his body around.
- 6:31Speaker 1: He plays with a tenacity. He sets the edge with
- 6:35Speaker 1: violence and authority, and you love that. I would make
- 6:37Speaker 1: the argument that pound for pound, he's one of the
- 6:40Speaker 1: most physical pass rushers in the game. He's a very
- 6:43Speaker 1: sound run defender, but you want to see more in
- 6:46Speaker 1: terms of sack production. He's also going to have to.
- 6:48Speaker 1: He's also had some unfortunate bouts of health issues, whether
- 6:54Speaker 1: it is the triceps and things like that, so availability
- 6:57Speaker 1: is going to be essential for Nolan now. In terms
- 7:00Speaker 1: of his role in twenty twenty six, I kind of
- 7:03Speaker 1: envisioned him sliding in as the number three edge rusher,
- 7:06Speaker 1: Jonathan Grenard leading things off.
- 7:07Speaker 2: You have jay loox Hunt playing opposite him and then No.
- 7:10Speaker 1: One and the Eagles under Vic Vango have traditionally operated
- 7:14Speaker 1: with a three man pass rush rotation, so No. One
- 7:18Speaker 1: will still have a very prominent role on the defense.
- 7:22Speaker 1: But this is where you would like to see because
- 7:24Speaker 1: there are players around him that should free him up.
- 7:27Speaker 1: In theory, you would like to see the sack numbers climb.
- 7:29Speaker 1: No one's smissed another player that I'm expecting to see
- 7:32Speaker 1: come out with an urgency, with a you know, with
- 7:36Speaker 1: with some motivation to go out there and continue to
- 7:42Speaker 1: grow as a player. So's that's Nolan Smith. And when
- 7:47Speaker 1: you look back on you know, when they drafted him,
- 7:50Speaker 1: he was viewed as someone that could step in and
- 7:52Speaker 1: be a major sack producer and someone that would I mean,
- 7:58Speaker 1: you see the athleticism, you see the move ability and
- 8:00Speaker 1: things like that. It's just about everything else coming together.
- 8:03Speaker 1: He's going to need health and working in his favor,
- 8:06Speaker 1: but I think he's going to be positioned ideally this
- 8:10Speaker 1: year that should support sort of a quasi breakthrough campaign,
- 8:17Speaker 1: if that makes sense. I still think jayalox Hunt's going
- 8:19Speaker 1: to be the breakthrough star of that group this year,
- 8:23Speaker 1: but I think Nolan will stand the benefit from being
- 8:25Speaker 1: around someone like a Jonathan Grenard and a rapidly developing
- 8:29Speaker 1: Nolan jayalox Hunt. Then in the third round, pick sixty five,
- 8:36Speaker 1: the Eagles drafted Tyler Steen out of the University of Alabama.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Tyler Stein was a tackle at Alabama and over his
- 8:43Speaker 1: first two seasons he started three games and he was
- 8:47Speaker 1: a reliable backup on game day. And then last season
- 8:51Speaker 1: he fills the shoes of the departed Mackai Beckton, who
- 8:56Speaker 1: signed with the Chargers and free agency, and Tyler Steen
- 8:59Speaker 1: was the Eagles starter for seventeen games in the regular season,
- 9:02Speaker 1: the full compliment in twenty twenty five.
- 9:06Speaker 2: And I thought he did a solid job. I really did.
- 9:08Speaker 1: And I was a little bit higher on Tyler I
- 9:11Speaker 1: feel like, maybe a little less skeptical because i'd I
- 9:19Speaker 1: was familiar with his game and I really paid attention
- 9:22Speaker 1: when he was pressed into service to see how he
- 9:24Speaker 1: was handling himself. And I think back to that Saints
- 9:28Speaker 1: game in twenty twenty four where he had to step
- 9:31Speaker 1: in and the offense didn't miss a beat, and I
- 9:32Speaker 1: thought he really did some good things from a savbiness
- 9:35Speaker 1: and athletic standpoint, that to me signaled that the Eagles
- 9:39Speaker 1: might have something here. He steps in last season, I
- 9:42Speaker 1: think he did a solid job. I don't think he
- 9:45Speaker 1: was deterrent at all by any means for the offensive
- 9:48Speaker 1: line and them that group not reaching or playing to
- 9:52Speaker 1: their standard.
- 9:53Speaker 2: It was ravaged by attrition. But I thought Tyler Steen.
- 9:57Speaker 1: Acquitted himself well in his first opportunity be a starter,
- 10:01Speaker 1: and it does some things athletically that Makai Becton can't.
- 10:04Speaker 1: Moving laterally getting to the second level, he's going to
- 10:07Speaker 1: be better. He's better in pass protection, I would say,
- 10:10Speaker 1: not going to be the run game mauler that Becton was.
- 10:13Speaker 1: They're totally different body types. But I think for a
- 10:17Speaker 1: right guard, you can do a lot worse than Tyler Steen.
- 10:20Speaker 1: I think the Eagles are really comfortable with him as
- 10:23Speaker 1: their right guard of the future. Then we move on
- 10:28Speaker 1: to Sidney Brown, who was also drafted in the third round,
- 10:31Speaker 1: picked sixty six, so right after Tyler Steen and the
- 10:35Speaker 1: Eagles drafted him out of the University of Illinois. Sydney
- 10:38Speaker 1: played in forty two games, starting nine and was never
- 10:42Speaker 1: able to carve out a role on defense. Now, the
- 10:44Speaker 1: way that he played the game tends to lend itself
- 10:47Speaker 1: to maybe over pursuing plays. He's like a heat seeking
- 10:51Speaker 1: missile out there. Some had some issues consistently wrapping up
- 10:56Speaker 1: with his tackles over the past few years, and that
- 10:59Speaker 1: was something that revealed itself in the game situation. But
- 11:03Speaker 1: he was really a box safety that didn't necessarily have
- 11:07Speaker 1: doesn't necessarily have a skill set to support more and
- 11:11Speaker 1: in the modern NFL, you have to have that wide
- 11:13Speaker 1: ranging skill set and be able to do some things
- 11:16Speaker 1: in coverage, and Sydney was just never really able to
- 11:18Speaker 1: put it all together. And then I go back to
- 11:22Speaker 1: Vic Vangio, and something that Vic Vangil prioritizes is trust, dependability,
- 11:29Speaker 1: knowing where a player is going to be. Players who
- 11:31Speaker 1: play with great fundamentals and our assignment sound and Sidney
- 11:37Speaker 1: Brown is kind of a wildcard when he's out there.
- 11:39Speaker 1: He plays with tremendous intensity. He flies around the field.
- 11:46Speaker 1: He's always dialed up to eleven, which you can appreciate
- 11:50Speaker 1: from just a game to game effort standpoint. But you
- 11:53Speaker 1: have to be someone that can play within the structure
- 11:57Speaker 1: of a defense and that can be counted on because
- 12:00Speaker 1: one missed assignment could lead to a big play, and
- 12:03Speaker 1: the Eagles aren't going to put someone out there that
- 12:05Speaker 1: could lead to a breakdown and can sort of be exploited.
- 12:09Speaker 2: So Sidney Brown was never really.
- 12:13Speaker 1: A fixture in the defense at all, was never able
- 12:15Speaker 1: to elbow his way into the mix. As a rookie,
- 12:18Speaker 1: he tore he had a knee injury against the Giants
- 12:20Speaker 1: at MetLife and then it wasn't until October of the
- 12:23Speaker 1: next year that he played got back on the field
- 12:26Speaker 1: after recovering. He only played seventy nine defensive snaps in
- 12:29Speaker 1: year two. Year three, he didn't.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Play all that much.
- 12:33Speaker 1: But the one season that he played a fair amount
- 12:36Speaker 1: was in his rookie season in twenty twenty three, where
- 12:39Speaker 1: he played three hundred and thirty five snaps. Now he's
- 12:44Speaker 1: really he's really carved out a niche on special teams.
- 12:47Speaker 1: In each of his first three seasons, he's played over
- 12:50Speaker 1: three hundred snaps. He's sort of an enforcer there. He's
- 12:53Speaker 1: fearless when he's running down the field. He just got
- 12:57Speaker 1: to be able to play with more restraint and not
- 12:59Speaker 1: ptent put your team in a bind because you let
- 13:04Speaker 1: your emotions sometimes take over. So he ended up being
- 13:08Speaker 1: traded to the Atlanta Falcons in the during the offseason,
- 13:13Speaker 1: and we'll see if he's able to catch on there.
- 13:16Speaker 1: But as a third round pick to not be able
- 13:18Speaker 1: to etch out a role as a starter or a
- 13:21Speaker 1: meaningful contributor on defense, I would imagine is not something
- 13:27Speaker 1: that the Eagles envisioned when they drafted him. They certainly
- 13:30Speaker 1: draft someone in the third round, you expect them to
- 13:33Speaker 1: be a starter, but that didn't really happen. He played
- 13:39Speaker 1: only sparingly. I mentioned the nine starts there. Then we
- 13:44Speaker 1: move on to Kiley Ringo, who the Eagles drafted in
- 13:46Speaker 1: the fourth round pick one oh five. He played in
- 13:49Speaker 1: fifty one games so far, eight starts, one interception, five passes.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Defended big time talent coming out of the University of Georgia,
- 13:57Speaker 1: but he was a bit of a mystery because he
- 13:58Speaker 1: was an up and down player. He gets to the
- 14:00Speaker 1: Eagles in twenty twenty three, later in the year, he's.
- 14:05Speaker 2: Factoring in.
- 14:06Speaker 1: He's getting on the field both kie Ringo and Eli Rix,
- 14:09Speaker 1: and there was a very short time where both players
- 14:12Speaker 1: appeared to be part of the solution to that at
- 14:17Speaker 1: the time aging secondary back then. But things have changed
- 14:22Speaker 1: and kiey Ringo has carved out a role as one
- 14:27Speaker 1: of the league's best special teamers.
- 14:28Speaker 2: He's tremendous as a gunner.
- 14:30Speaker 1: I would make the argument that he deserves all pro
- 14:33Speaker 1: consideration because he's that effective.
- 14:36Speaker 2: But they drafted him to be a corner.
- 14:39Speaker 1: He was billed as you know, a top recruit who
- 14:43Speaker 1: had high upside at the next level, but there are
- 14:46Speaker 1: certain things that he hasn't been able to to work
- 14:52Speaker 1: through and and I think you look at the hip stiffness,
- 14:58Speaker 1: the inability to turn then locate the football. He's a
- 15:02Speaker 1: little clunky in transition, but he's immensely quick linearly when
- 15:07Speaker 1: running straight ahead.
- 15:09Speaker 2: He has a lot of long speed there.
- 15:12Speaker 1: You see the size, and you can't help but think
- 15:14Speaker 1: he resembles that of a safety. Though the Eagles always
- 15:18Speaker 1: have used him and viewed him as a corner. I
- 15:20Speaker 1: think right now he's sort of trending towards that special
- 15:23Speaker 1: teams specialist type of role, like a Chris Smarragos, like
- 15:28Speaker 1: the late great Brian Brayman. He was a linebacker by title,
- 15:32Speaker 1: what really a special teamer. You look at Matthew Slater
- 15:35Speaker 1: who was a wide receiver with the Patriots, but really
- 15:37Speaker 1: a gunner on special teams was where he made his mark.
- 15:41Speaker 1: And so I feel like Kee Ringo's trending towards that
- 15:44Speaker 1: because he was given an opportunity last year to wrestle
- 15:48Speaker 1: away a starting job from veteran A Dori Jackson they
- 15:51Speaker 1: toggle between the two, with Dory eventually was the answer
- 15:56Speaker 1: as the starter and neither player. I mean, Keeley got
- 15:59Speaker 1: some opportunities last year, but didn't do in himself any favors.
- 16:02Speaker 1: And again I go back to the Sydney Brown lapses
- 16:07Speaker 1: that he has in coverage and things like that.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Communication.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Those are certain things that Vic Fangio is not going
- 16:14Speaker 1: to go for, and it's going to be really hard
- 16:16Speaker 1: to factor in on the defensive side if you're a
- 16:19Speaker 1: player that's too up and down, too much of a
- 16:22Speaker 1: high variance type of player, and that's been Kiley Ringo
- 16:25Speaker 1: throughout his career. And so it's easy to see the
- 16:29Speaker 1: athleticism and the size and be enamored with that he's
- 16:31Speaker 1: still a young player, but then I think you have
- 16:34Speaker 1: to look at the product on the field. He's been
- 16:37Speaker 1: given quite a few opportunities and he hasn't been able
- 16:39Speaker 1: to answer the bell or provide any semblance of confidence
- 16:43Speaker 1: that he can be called upon as a fourth corner
- 16:46Speaker 1: or something to that effect. So right now, he's a
- 16:49Speaker 1: high end special teamer who I think can latch on
- 16:52Speaker 1: with the Eagles as a fifth corner, but I don't
- 16:56Speaker 1: really view him as anything more than that at this time.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,
- 17:04Speaker 3: long lines, We've all been there, But when it comes
- 17:06Speaker 3: to your cannabis, Camden Apothecary makes it easy. This is

- 17:49Speaker 3: service members, and healthcare pros. Camedn Apothecary top quality cannabis,
- 17:54Speaker 3: great prices, and an experience made for Philly fans.
- 17:57Speaker 2: Twenty one and up.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Drafted in the sixth round pick one eight, played in
- 18:03Speaker 1: six games, starting two fifty four of eighty eight passes
- 18:07Speaker 1: for five ninety seven and five touchdowns and one interception.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Eagles drafted Tanner McKee in the sixth round out of Stanford,
- 18:15Speaker 1: and he's been a rock solid backup quarterback.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Someone who's highly valued in the building.
- 18:20Speaker 1: I believe that he despite not playing all that much,
- 18:24Speaker 1: not really having those opportunities and things on tape, he's
- 18:27Speaker 1: still viewed among one of the better backup quarterbacks in
- 18:31Speaker 1: the league. And you can't help but wonder. I know
- 18:35Speaker 1: he's in the last year of his rookie deal. If
- 18:37Speaker 1: there will be a team maybe this summer that is
- 18:39Speaker 1: intrigued enough with Tanner McKee to offer draft compensation to
- 18:44Speaker 1: get them, Well, we'll have to wait and see. Right now,
- 18:46Speaker 1: he spent time rotating with veteran Andy Dalton as the
- 18:50Speaker 1: number two quarterback in the spring, and we'll see how
- 18:53Speaker 1: that all transpires in the summer. But at worst, if
- 18:57Speaker 1: the Eagles don't end up moving Tanner McKee, or if
- 18:59Speaker 1: they decide, hey, we like him as are, whatever the
- 19:02Speaker 1: case is, then the Eagles would arm themselves with a
- 19:04Speaker 1: really strong option backing up Jalen Hurts. I know that
- 19:09Speaker 1: Tanner is well regarded in the building, and there's teams
- 19:12Speaker 1: that I think he could start for But I think
- 19:15Speaker 1: the the love for Tanner McKee is a little strong
- 19:20Speaker 1: because the sample size isn't big enough. Now, last season,
- 19:24Speaker 1: when Tanner was pressed in the service, I don't think
- 19:27Speaker 1: he did himself many favors endearing himself to other teams.
- 19:33Speaker 1: But context is important because when DeVante Smith was in
- 19:37Speaker 1: the game, I thought Tanner looked far more sharp than
- 19:40Speaker 1: he did when DeVante left the game after he crossed
- 19:44Speaker 1: the one thousand yard receiving mark, and then Tanner was
- 19:49Speaker 1: playing with backups. Now, Tanner is a backup, so those
- 19:51Speaker 1: are the players that he practices with. But when you're
- 19:53Speaker 1: on an NFL field and the other team has their starters, yeah,
- 19:57Speaker 1: I mean there's gonna be a drop off there. Naturally,
- 20:01Speaker 1: not making excuses because Tanner has to go out there
- 20:04Speaker 1: and capitalize on his opportunities. But I think that sort
- 20:07Speaker 1: of just adds to the mystery because there's a lot
- 20:10Speaker 1: of intrigue with Tanner. But I think it's a little
- 20:13Speaker 1: strong for the small amount of evidence that we have
- 20:17Speaker 1: on him in a game situation. Let's round things out
- 20:22Speaker 1: with a tremendous seventh round selection in Moro Jomo, who
- 20:29Speaker 1: the Eagles selected two hundred and forty ninth overall at.
- 20:33Speaker 2: The University of Texas.
- 20:35Speaker 1: Moro Jomo has climbed his way from a back of
- 20:39Speaker 1: the rotation defensive tackle to a critical piece to Fick
- 20:44Speaker 1: Fangio's defense. He was a critical piece in the Eagle
- 20:47Speaker 1: Super Bowl winning defense and he played double digit snaps
- 20:51Speaker 1: for his rookie season.
- 20:52Speaker 2: I think he only played in maybe eight games.
- 20:57Speaker 1: Then the season after that, his second year, he plays
- 20:59Speaker 1: three hundred and eighty eight snaps, which is the exact
- 21:01Speaker 1: amount that Jordan Davis played. It comes out to about
- 21:05Speaker 1: thirty seven percent of the defensive snaps. That climbs significantly
- 21:09Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five when his role expanded and Moro
- 21:13Speaker 1: played seven hundred and forty which was about sixty six
- 21:17Speaker 1: percent I believe, and he collected all six of his
- 21:20Speaker 1: career sacks. He had twelve quarterback hits when he was
- 21:24Speaker 1: in the game. You noticed it. And he gives you
- 21:26Speaker 1: a different type of skill set relative to that of
- 21:29Speaker 1: Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis. But he's a little undersize.
- 21:33Speaker 1: You can see the quickness the active hands that he uses.
- 21:37Speaker 1: He plays, he uses leverage really well, and he's in
- 21:42Speaker 1: the final year of his rookie do as well. So
- 21:46Speaker 1: if there's a world in which if he's able to
- 21:47Speaker 1: go out there and replicate the success that he had
- 21:50Speaker 1: last year, come close to it, He's going to have
- 21:53Speaker 1: plenty of suitors at the negotiating table come next offseason.
- 22:00Speaker 1: For the Eagles to land a seventh round pick that
- 22:02Speaker 1: has climbed as fast as Moro Jomo has to the
- 22:06Speaker 1: point where he's etching out a key role on the
- 22:09Speaker 1: defensive line, that is a home run selection. I have
- 22:14Speaker 1: a hard time envisioning the Eagles being able to lock
- 22:17Speaker 1: up Moro Jomo to a long term deal based on
- 22:20Speaker 1: how he played well if he continues on that trajectory.
- 22:24Speaker 1: Considering that Jalen Carter has to be paid, the Eagles
- 22:28Speaker 1: just paid Jordan Davis. You have Cooper Degen and QUENTYA
- 22:31Speaker 1: Mitchell coming down the pike, maybe even at Jay Looks Hunt,
- 22:34Speaker 1: so you already have a lot of money invested.
- 22:39Speaker 2: In the defense.
- 22:39Speaker 1: We'll see what happens, but that is an absolute home
- 22:42Speaker 1: run seventh round pick Moro A.
- 22:44Speaker 2: Jomo.
- 22:46Speaker 1: And that concludes the overview or the revisit of the
- 22:51Speaker 1: Eagles twenty twenty three draft class. That's going to do
- 22:54Speaker 1: it for this episode of the Checko Deli Andrew Dececo,
- 22:57Speaker 1: and I'll catch you all on the next one.
- 23:02Speaker 2: Da
