Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: With Stu Gatz and Hawkman.
- 0:01Speaker 2: I mean, I mean, look at this guy. WKRP and
- 0:08Speaker 2: Cincinnati t-shirt. He is ready to go. Sharpie in the mouth.
- 0:13Speaker 3: I got the.
- 0:13Speaker 1: Sharpie in the mouth.
- 0:15Speaker 4: And you had commented before we started rolling here that
- 0:18Speaker 4: I'm rocking the WKRP t-shirt. And you were surprised to
- 0:22Speaker 4: find out I've never seen an episode of of that
- 0:25Speaker 4: show being that i'm a lifelong radio guy i always
- 0:27Speaker 4: love radio i happen to love sitcoms as well.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Uh that's why it's shocking to me you love sitcoms
- 0:33Speaker 2: you love radio there was a sitcom made about a
- 0:35Speaker 2: radio station the inner workings of a radio station you
- 0:39Speaker 2: have a t-shirt and yet you've never seen an episode
- 0:41Speaker 2: it was shocking i'm.
- 0:43Speaker 4: Sorry i uh i zig when others add i i
- 0:46Speaker 4: don't know i i don't know why i've never seen
- 0:48Speaker 4: an episode and i get like i know all the
- 0:50Speaker 4: characters you know i mean there's a uh, Johnny fever, right?
- 0:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:54Speaker 2: He's like, he's like the FM, you know, he's the
- 0:57Speaker 2: afternoon drive, like DJ.
- 0:58Speaker 1: He's fantastic.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Johnny Anderson. Yes, of course.
- 1:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Uh, do you know Taylor? Do you know, uh, WKRP
- 1:07Speaker 1: in Cincinnati? You ever heard of that? Never even heard
- 1:09Speaker 1: of it. Hasn't crossed my desk yet. What was the
- 1:12Speaker 1: last episode of WKRP in Cincinnati? And they even show
- 1:16Speaker 1: reruns of it.
- 1:17Speaker 4: I mean, they're usually on all the streaming services or whatever.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Like you can find, uh, every TV show.
- 1:23Speaker 4: I don't know if they aired WKRP anywhere.
- 1:26Speaker 5: So it went off the air April 21st, 1982. Just
- 1:32Speaker 5: missed that window. When were you born, Taylor?
- 1:34Speaker 1: 94. 82. That was my prime. That's why. I was busy.
- 1:40Speaker 1: That was my prime. What a time. I mean, seriously.
- 1:43Speaker 1: What a time. Did you watch WKRP? I did, yes.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I'm shocked that you didn't. I did watch it. It
- 1:49Speaker 2: was a very good show. It was a funny show.
- 1:51Speaker 2: It's one of the few shows, I can't recall another show,
- 1:54Speaker 2: about a radio station that actually turned out to be popular,
- 1:58Speaker 2: you know? Like, people try with Sports Night. They try
- 2:01Speaker 2: with other stuff. WKRP in Cincinnati had.
- 2:04Speaker 1: A run, man. Yeah, no, it was super popular.
- 2:07Speaker 4: There was that show Talk Radio, right?
- 2:11Speaker 1: Wasn't that with Joe Rogan? Wasn't he in that?
- 2:12Speaker 2: I never saw that one either. I don't actually like
- 2:16Speaker 2: radio now that I think about it. You like the
- 2:19Speaker 2: doing of radio. You don't like watching shows about radio.
- 2:22Speaker 1: That's all. There's not many because it's just none of
- 2:24Speaker 1: it's realistic. I don't know.
- 2:28Speaker 4: They should have done a show about the early days
- 2:30Speaker 4: of 790 The Ticket.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I'm not even kidding you.
- 2:33Speaker 4: A reality show that was for people who listened to
- 2:38Speaker 4: 790 in the first couple.
- 2:39Speaker 1: Of years or lived through it.
- 2:42Speaker 4: That place was the fucking wild, wild west.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Am I lying? That place was the wild west. We
- 2:51Speaker 1: were making it up on the fly. Yeah. Literally.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:56Speaker 1: And someone should do.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I don't know how much interest there would be, but
- 3:00Speaker 2: if someone did a documentary on the five years of
- 3:04Speaker 2: 790 The Ticket online, I'm telling you, people who aren't interested,
- 3:08Speaker 2: if they watched and saw some of the storylines there.
- 3:10Speaker 1: They would get interested very quickly. It was crazy. I mean,
- 3:14Speaker 1: shit went down at times, man.
- 3:17Speaker 4: And in today's very corporate world, there's like three major
- 3:20Speaker 4: players in radio right now on all the stations. There's
- 3:23Speaker 4: a few smaller ones, but essentially it's iHeart, Odyssey, and Cumulus. Right.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Then there's the smaller ones. There's the Beasleys. I think
- 3:32Speaker 4: Hubbard still has stations.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Yep.
- 3:35Speaker 1: But man.
- 3:36Speaker 4: That was, because when it started, 04?
- 3:40Speaker 1: Yeah, it was 04.
- 3:41Speaker 2: So just a rogue sports radio station trying to take
- 3:45Speaker 2: down WQAM with people and jobs who shouldn't have been
- 3:48Speaker 2: in those jobs.
- 3:49Speaker 1: And I was one of them. Such a great call.
- 3:52Speaker 4: It was a rogue standalone AM radio station. It was
- 3:59Speaker 4: like Denzel Washington in the Equalizer. He really wasn't working
- 4:03Speaker 4: for any government entity at that point. He was just
- 4:06Speaker 4: doing it for the love of the game. We were
- 4:09Speaker 4: just doing it for the love of the game, man. Yeah,
- 4:11Speaker 4: but it was so liberating, right? There was no corporate. Yes,
- 4:14Speaker 4: the freedom there was amazing.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I think the freedom is what actually helped us provide
- 4:20Speaker 2: such great content because the content was good.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Well, we had a limitless bankroll, essentially. You had to
- 4:26Speaker 4: deal with it. You had to finesse it. You had
- 4:29Speaker 4: to work with Joel and Murph. But essentially, we had
- 4:32Speaker 4: a limitless bankroll. And the guy who was bankrolling it
- 4:36Speaker 4: had a vested interest in one radio station. And the
- 4:40Speaker 4: problem nowadays is, you know, with consolidation, the person or people,
- 4:44Speaker 4: if it's a public company, who are funding a radio station,
- 4:48Speaker 4: they don't have a vested interest in one station. They
- 4:51Speaker 4: don't have a vested interest in one show. They look
- 4:53Speaker 4: at stuff globally. And ours was such a Such a
- 4:58Speaker 4: unique situation because it was the way radio was, you know,
- 5:01Speaker 4: in the 80s and 90s, really, where you had one owner,
- 5:04Speaker 4: one radio station.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Yes.
- 5:05Speaker 4: And if things were going shitty, you'd walk across the
- 5:08Speaker 4: street to the next owner and the next radio station.
- 5:11Speaker 4: And that didn't exist even in 2004. Certainly doesn't exist
- 5:14Speaker 4: in 2026. But in 04, it didn't really exist. And
- 5:18Speaker 4: there we were, a rogue radio station trying to make
- 5:22Speaker 4: its mark.
- 5:22Speaker 2: And all the other radio stations were jealous of us
- 5:25Speaker 2: because we were rogue, doing things that traditional radio stations
- 5:29Speaker 2: just simply wouldn't do.
- 5:30Speaker 1: And you're right.
- 5:31Speaker 2: We had one owner. He had a ton of money.
- 5:34Speaker 2: He was also very competitive, and he had an ego.
- 5:36Speaker 2: And I say that lovingly to Joel Feinberg because he
- 5:40Speaker 2: had all those things. And, Hawk, I've told this story before.
- 5:42Speaker 2: I'll give an example of what it was like. I
- 5:45Speaker 2: said to him one day— hey, he was a real estate guy—
- 5:48Speaker 2: Let's get a shack for Super Bowl week down here
- 5:51Speaker 2: in Miami, and who cares what it looks like after
- 5:54Speaker 2: the fact?
- 5:54Speaker 1: Just get a dump, right?
- 5:57Speaker 2: So he went out, he looked for a dump, he
- 5:59Speaker 2: came back, he put a 15-page document on my desk.
- 6:02Speaker 1: He said, look this over. I said, what is this for?
- 6:05Speaker 1: A dump? He said, no, the Versace mansion. It was
- 6:08Speaker 1: so great. Like Stugatz's idea.
- 6:11Speaker 4: But Stugatz had grown up in radio, so he knew
- 6:14Speaker 4: the way radio liked to cheap out on things, do
- 6:17Speaker 4: cheap promotions, get cheap places and try to, you know,
- 6:21Speaker 4: pull the wool over listeners' eyes. So I'm guessing your
- 6:24Speaker 4: idea for that Superbowl week was like, you know, El
- 6:27Speaker 4: Palacio hotel, like the, like, Hey, wherever we are, we'll
- 6:31Speaker 4: just make it sound great. People show up and who
- 6:34Speaker 4: cares that it's a dump.
- 6:35Speaker 1: We're just going to have fun.
- 6:36Speaker 4: And Joel, because he had an ego and money and
- 6:40Speaker 4: wanted to be on the covers of magazines in South
- 6:43Speaker 4: beach and stuff. And I'm saying that as a positive,
- 6:46Speaker 4: he was like, Nah, fuck El Palacio. We're getting the
- 6:49Speaker 4: Versace mansion. And then you figure out Stugatz a way
- 6:53Speaker 4: to make money on this.
- 6:54Speaker 2: Yes, me and your buddy Jim Favola. Our buddy Jim Favola.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Favola's like, I can't make money on this. And Favola
- 6:59Speaker 2: can make money on anything. I remember saying to Joel,
- 7:05Speaker 2: I said, Joel, this is a bit expensive. I said,
- 7:08Speaker 2: just get a dump, like a shack. We'll ruin it,
- 7:11Speaker 2: you know? And he said to me, this is the
- 7:14Speaker 2: least expensive of the two options I could have put
- 7:17Speaker 2: in front of your face.
- 7:18Speaker 1: You should have.
- 7:19Speaker 2: Saw option A. And so he never told me what
- 7:21Speaker 2: it was, but he said it was something nicer. Then
- 7:24Speaker 2: the Versace Mansion, I remember renting that thing out to
- 7:26Speaker 2: Daniel Snyder and the Washington Commanders because they wanted to
- 7:30Speaker 2: have a party there one night.
- 7:31Speaker 1: It was unbelievable.
- 7:32Speaker 2: I'm walking around, I'm sleeping in the Versace Mansion, and
- 7:37Speaker 2: I wake up one morning and I'm walking down the
- 7:39Speaker 2: hallway to go to the bathroom and I walk right
- 7:41Speaker 2: by Kanye West.
- 7:42Speaker 1: What a time.
- 7:44Speaker 5: Hawk, anytime I hear the Versace Mansion, the only moment
- 7:48Speaker 5: I think from it is the ludicrous moment.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Oh, with the watch?
- 7:53Speaker 1: With the watch. That was at the Shaq birthday party
- 7:56Speaker 1: at the Hard Rock.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Oh, was it? Oh, you're right. Yeah, that wasn't that.
- 8:00Speaker 4: You know, what happened at the Versace Mansion, the first
- 8:03Speaker 4: night that we broadcast from the Versace Mansion, we invited
- 8:08Speaker 4: a bunch of players.
- 8:09Speaker 1: Do you remember who the first guest to show up
- 8:11Speaker 1: was that night?
- 8:12Speaker 2: I remember Eli Manning being there before we got there.
- 8:15Speaker 1: Did he?
- 8:16Speaker 4: It was like it was a it was a Versace mansion, 790,
- 8:21Speaker 4: the ticket Super Bowl party. And we had put, I mean,
- 8:25Speaker 4: big names on this guest list. And so we're starting
- 8:30Speaker 4: our special broadcast like 6 p.m. I think on the invitations,
- 8:35Speaker 4: it probably says broadcast begins at 6 p.m.
- 8:39Speaker 1: You know, party till whenever.
- 8:41Speaker 4: So people are showing up for the party like Shaq,
- 8:44Speaker 4: you know, at two in the morning or whenever people.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Show up on South beach.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Yes. Eli Manning is there at 6 PM as we
- 8:53Speaker 4: are just getting everything ready.
- 8:55Speaker 2: So the reason Taylor got confused there, the first night
- 8:59Speaker 2: of the Versace was Shaq's birthday party.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Okay.
- 9:02Speaker 2: We went to two of Shaq's birthday parties, one of
- 9:05Speaker 2: the Hard Rock and one of the Versace.
- 9:06Speaker 1: Oh, really?
- 9:07Speaker 4: I didn't realize that the Versace mansion encapsulated his birthday
- 9:11Speaker 4: as well.
- 9:11Speaker 2: It was the Shaq 100. There were 100 people on
- 9:14Speaker 2: the guest list. Turns out more people showed up than that.
- 9:17Speaker 2: Eli was the first one there. He was on the
- 9:19Speaker 2: guest list. Steve Monterano was cooking for the entire birthday party.
- 9:23Speaker 2: That happened at the Versace. Me, you, Dan, Boog were
- 9:27Speaker 2: on the red carpet doing radio because Shaq's inviting 100 guests.
- 9:32Speaker 2: We're figuring, hey, it's going to be a who's who.
- 9:34Speaker 1: And it was.
- 9:35Speaker 2: That was the night where Dan and Boog had the
- 9:38Speaker 2: thing with Reggie Miller going into the hall.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Yes.
- 9:41Speaker 4: I was just thinking that. So Boog puts Dan on
- 9:44Speaker 4: the spot. Dan, incapable of lying, was just finessing a situation.
- 9:49Speaker 4: Reggie Miller is sitting in between Dan and Boog and
- 9:54Speaker 4: Boog says, do you think.
- 9:56Speaker 1: He's a hall of famer? Yes.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Dan forever had said that Reggie Miller is not a
- 9:59Speaker 2: hall of famer. So Boog decided to ask that question
- 10:02Speaker 2: with Reggie Miller on the show and Levitard sweating sitting
- 10:05Speaker 2: right next to me.
- 10:06Speaker 1: It was great. He just sheepishly, Dan looks at Reggie
- 10:09Speaker 1: Miller and Boog and goes, no.
- 10:11Speaker 3: Yes.
- 10:12Speaker 2: And then a couple of years later, I think this
- 10:14Speaker 2: is the one, Taylor, Ludacris, I think it was a
- 10:16Speaker 2: year or two later, Shaq had another birthday party. It
- 10:19Speaker 2: was at the Hard Rock. I was hammered and I
- 10:22Speaker 2: asked Ludacris about his watch.
- 10:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:24Speaker 4: I think I have both those sounds. Can I fire
- 10:27Speaker 4: those to you real quick, Taylor?
- 10:29Speaker 1: Would you be able to play them? Not the place
- 10:31Speaker 1: we thought we were going today. So I have both sounds.
- 10:34Speaker 1: We're loading them up right now.
- 10:35Speaker 3: All right.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Okay. Because I do have them if you want them.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Just tell me. Okay.
- 10:40Speaker 2: Tell me before you play the ludicrous sound. I still
- 10:42Speaker 2: can't listen to it.
- 10:42Speaker 3: I mean.
- 10:43Speaker 1: It is so cringe, man. It is so cringe. Because
- 10:46Speaker 1: you are fucking hammered.
- 10:48Speaker 2: Oh, so hammered. You are hammered. I walked up to
- 10:52Speaker 2: the table. I left for an hour. Levitar texted me.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Where are you?
- 10:56Speaker 2: I said, I'll be there in a minute. I came
- 10:57Speaker 2: back with two gin and tonics.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Doubles.
- 11:01Speaker 5: So, Hawk, this is the Stu Gotts ludicrous question.
- 11:05Speaker 3: How much does the watch cost, ludicrous? How much?
- 11:09Speaker 1: I don't know. I got it for free. That's a
- 11:10Speaker 1: good question. That's an indelicate question, right?
- 11:13Speaker 6: You don't ask a woman what she weighs, and you
- 11:14Speaker 6: don't ask a hip-hop star what his jewelry's worth, do you?
- 11:17Speaker 3: That's why he let me ask this one.
- 11:19Speaker 1: You really don't.
- 11:22Speaker 4: By the way, a couple things going on there. I mean,
- 11:24Speaker 4: your slurring is just outrageous.
- 11:28Speaker 3: This is outrageous.
- 11:30Speaker 1: A live broadcast.
- 11:31Speaker 4: Stu Gatz is the top executive of the radio station.
- 11:36Speaker 5: Yes.
- 11:36Speaker 4: And also the co-host of the most important show on
- 11:41Speaker 4: the radio station. We're inviting for weeks people to listen
- 11:45Speaker 4: to this show. Listen to it again. Listen to the
- 11:47Speaker 4: slurring going on here coming out of Stu Gatz's mouth.
- 11:51Speaker 3: How much does the watch cost, Ludacris? How much? I
- 11:54Speaker 3: don't know.
- 11:55Speaker 1: I got it for free. That's a good question. That's
- 11:57Speaker 1: an indelicate question, right?
- 11:58Speaker 6: You don't ask a woman what she weighs, and you
- 12:00Speaker 6: don't ask a hip-hop star what his jewelry's worth, do you?
- 12:03Speaker 3: That's why he let me ask this question. You really don't.
- 12:06Speaker 1: By the way, a couple things there.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:09Speaker 4: That's 100% a question that Dan would ask.
- 12:12Speaker 5: Yep.
- 12:13Speaker 1: He would absolutely ask someone.
- 12:15Speaker 4: He just put you on the spot because he felt
- 12:17Speaker 4: like being on Ludacris's side.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Yes.
- 12:19Speaker 4: And he says it like, the truth is, you do
- 12:21Speaker 4: not ask a woman how much she weighs. There is
- 12:24Speaker 4: no unwritten law that you don't ask a hip-hop star
- 12:27Speaker 4: how much their jewelry costs. In fact, they generally want
- 12:31Speaker 4: everyone to know how much their jewelry costs.
- 12:33Speaker 2: You know, I have listened to that sound probably a
- 12:36Speaker 2: thousand times.
- 12:37Speaker 1: That's a different spin. A spin I'd never thought of.
- 12:39Speaker 7: Of course.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Why would you ask that?
- 12:42Speaker 4: He is sending you down the river without a paddle
- 12:45Speaker 4: on that one.
- 12:46Speaker 1: And it's completely made up. You know, he's like, oh,
- 12:49Speaker 1: one of.
- 12:50Speaker 4: The more famous sayings in the world is you never
- 12:53Speaker 4: ask a hip hop star how much their jewelry costs.
- 12:55Speaker 3: What?
- 12:56Speaker 1: Where did you come up with that? Written rules. He
- 13:01Speaker 1: was always there for me.
- 13:02Speaker 5: And then this, this is the sound labeled Reggie Miller, Dan.
- 13:08Speaker 3: Oh God. Yeah.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Look, I've seen your Mercedes Benz, Dan. Don't you even
- 13:12Speaker 1: try it? Reggie Miller, TNT. You're not a hall of famer.
- 13:15Speaker 1: We're back after this. All right, so I don't think
- 13:23Speaker 1: that's the sound.
- 13:24Speaker 4: That was later on after we had already acknowledged that
- 13:28Speaker 4: he wasn't a Hall of Famer. There's another sound from
- 13:31Speaker 4: the actual party.
- 13:32Speaker 2: So Taylor is getting it right now. I'll just tell
- 13:35Speaker 2: you this. Me, Boog, and Dan are sitting at this table.
- 13:38Speaker 2: Eli Manning is just sitting outside waiting. And eventually we
- 13:43Speaker 2: had Eli on. But when Reggie came on, Boog wrote
- 13:47Speaker 2: on a piece of paper. I was sitting right next
- 13:49Speaker 2: to him. He said, get ready for this. as Reggie
- 13:54Speaker 2: Miller was on with us, and then he squeezed my
- 13:57Speaker 2: leg under the table as he was asking Reggie Miller
- 14:01Speaker 2: about the Hall of Fame.
- 14:02Speaker 1: It was fantastic.
- 14:02Speaker 4: I have a picture of it somewhere. I have the
- 14:05Speaker 4: picture of the three of you guys sitting there, and
- 14:08Speaker 4: I cannot find it.
- 14:10Speaker 1: But think about how cool that was. First off, think
- 14:12Speaker 1: about Johnny Fever.
- 14:13Speaker 2: If he were that drunk on the air, what would
- 14:15Speaker 2: have happened to him at WKRP in Cincinnati?
- 14:17Speaker 3: I mean.
- 14:17Speaker 2: It was delightful. But think about how cool it was, Hawk.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Shaq's throwing a birthday party. at the Versace Mansion, which
- 14:26Speaker 2: we own for the week, and he's invited 100 of
- 14:30Speaker 2: his closest friends, and we're on the red carpet for it.
- 14:33Speaker 1: I mean, and to get.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Into the party, you had to pass us.
- 14:37Speaker 1: You had to go through us.
- 14:39Speaker 4: So even all these A-listers who are thinking, I'm just
- 14:42Speaker 4: going to go party at the Versace mansion on South Beach,
- 14:44Speaker 4: like they're greeted with this radio station.
- 14:47Speaker 1: And we were pretty relentless.
- 14:48Speaker 4: It was me, Andy King, trying to think of some
- 14:51Speaker 4: of the others where we were just directing people, not
- 14:54Speaker 4: giving them a chance to say, nah, not interested. We
- 14:56Speaker 4: were just directing them over to the table to sit
- 14:59Speaker 4: down with you guys.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Yes, I remember Andy asking me, where do you want
- 15:02Speaker 2: me to set up the table? And I said, I
- 15:04Speaker 2: want you to obstruct their way into the Versace mansion.
- 15:09Speaker 2: They have to walk through us to get in. And
- 15:12Speaker 2: that's what Andy did.
- 15:13Speaker 5: So we're going to do take two here of blind
- 15:15Speaker 5: playing sounds without the capability of having playback. So we're
- 15:19Speaker 5: guessing that this is the one. It says Reggie Miller,
- 15:21Speaker 5: Dan Hall of Fame question.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Are you a Hall of Famer?
- 15:25Speaker 7: No, there's too many other guys that are more deserving
- 15:28Speaker 7: than I.
- 15:29Speaker 3: Levitar, do you think he's going in?
- 15:30Speaker 1: No.
- 15:32Speaker 3: I think you are. Yeah, wait.
- 15:33Speaker 4: You can't laugh over it because you don't get to
- 15:36Speaker 4: hear Dan's sheepish no.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Play it again. So it's Dan.
- 15:41Speaker 4: Asking Reggie Miller himself, which is a good way to
- 15:45Speaker 4: get out of having to bring the topic up because
- 15:48Speaker 4: obviously listeners who are listening know that this has been
- 15:51Speaker 4: a conversation for Dan for a while, that Reggie Miller
- 15:54Speaker 4: is not a Hall of Famer. So Dan brings it
- 15:56Speaker 4: up in a very clever way, which is, hey, do
- 15:58Speaker 4: you think you're a Hall of Famer? So now he's
- 16:00Speaker 4: not not addressing it, but he's letting Reggie Miller address it.
- 16:03Speaker 4: And then Boog just turns it right around on Dan,
- 16:06Speaker 4: asking him, do you think he's a Hall of Famer?
- 16:08Speaker 4: But listen to Dan's sheepish no.
- 16:10Speaker 1: Are you a Hall of Famer?
- 16:12Speaker 3: No, there's too many.
- 16:13Speaker 7: Other guys that are more deserving than I.
- 16:16Speaker 3: Levitar, do you think he's going in?
- 16:19Speaker 1: No. I think you are. Yeah, you're going in. So good.
- 16:25Speaker 4: You have the montage that I made of Dan saying no,
- 16:29Speaker 4: because I'm going to send that to you right now.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I think I have a montage. I think Taylor has it.
- 16:35Speaker 2: But, Hawk, just listening to that sound, Reggie fumbled his
- 16:38Speaker 2: words around just long enough.
- 16:40Speaker 1: For Boog to watch.
- 16:41Speaker 2: It gave Boog time to write down, watch this. And
- 16:45Speaker 2: then as he's asking to follow up to Reggie because
- 16:48Speaker 2: he wasn't letting it go, he's squeezing my leg under
- 16:51Speaker 2: the table.
- 16:53Speaker 1: I am texting you. Oh, do you have it? I
- 16:56Speaker 1: have it. We're loading it in right now.
- 16:59Speaker 2: We're keeping all this backstage stuff in the pod, right?
- 17:03Speaker 2: This is the kind of pod that I always envisioned where,
- 17:06Speaker 2: because I was going to play Greg Cody songs today
- 17:08Speaker 2: based off the last episode.
- 17:09Speaker 1: I was going to play more Greg Cody songs. and
- 17:11Speaker 1: more fake Cody songs.
- 17:13Speaker 4: But this is the pod I always envisioned where we're
- 17:15Speaker 4: just fucking around, and it's like, oh, you remember this
- 17:18Speaker 4: going on with the show, and then we have it all.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Yes, it seems like we'll get to Greg Cody on
- 17:22Speaker 1: a different episode. Maybe I'll give you one song today.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Well, I have a surprise for you as it relates
- 17:31Speaker 2: to Greg Cody, but let's get back to this.
- 17:33Speaker 1: So Taylor does have the montage. Let's play it right now.
- 17:37Speaker 6: Joined now by Reggie Miller.
- 17:40Speaker 3: Are you a Hall of Famer?
- 17:42Speaker 7: No, there's too many other guys that are more deserving
- 17:44Speaker 7: than I.
- 17:45Speaker 1: Levitar, do you think he's going in?
- 17:48Speaker 3: No. No. No.
- 17:51Speaker 1: No. No.
- 17:52Speaker 3: No.
- 17:53Speaker 4: No.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Levitar, do you think he's going in?
- 17:56Speaker 1: No. No.
- 17:58Speaker 7: No.
- 17:58Speaker 1: No. No. No.
- 17:59Speaker 2: No.
- 18:00Speaker 7: No.
- 18:06Speaker 3: Are you a Hall of Famer?
- 18:07Speaker 7: No, there's too many other guys that are more deserving
- 18:10Speaker 7: than I.
- 18:11Speaker 3: Levitar, do you think he's going in?
- 18:13Speaker 1: No.
- 18:14Speaker 3: No.
- 18:15Speaker 1: No.
- 18:15Speaker 3: No. Levitar, do you think he's going in?
- 18:19Speaker 7: No.
- 18:19Speaker 1: No.
- 18:20Speaker 4: No.
- 18:21Speaker 1: No.
- 18:22Speaker 3: Are you a Hall of Famer?
- 18:23Speaker 7: No, there's too many other guys that are more deserving
- 18:26Speaker 7: than I.
- 18:27Speaker 3: Levitar, do you think he's going in?
- 18:28Speaker 7: No.
- 18:29Speaker 3: No. Are you a Hall of Famer?
- 18:39Speaker 7: No, there's too many other guys that are more deserving
- 18:42Speaker 7: than I.
- 18:43Speaker 1: Levitar, do you think he's going in?
- 18:45Speaker 3: No. Levitar, do you think he's going in? No. Levitar,
- 18:50Speaker 3: do you think he's going in?
- 18:51Speaker 7: No.
- 18:52Speaker 3: No.
- 18:52Speaker 5: No. No.
- 18:53Speaker 7: No. No.
- 18:55Speaker 3: No.
- 18:55Speaker 7: No.
- 18:55Speaker 4: No.
- 18:56Speaker 1: No.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Levitar, do you think he's going in? No.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Classic me.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Yes.
- 19:05Speaker 1: So I'll hang you behind the curtain there. I remember
- 19:09Speaker 1: the next.
- 19:10Speaker 4: Day we had like made fun of it where Dan,
- 19:13Speaker 4: and I think we just isolated him saying no.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Right.
- 19:15Speaker 4: And I remember thinking to myself, you know, like that,
- 19:18Speaker 4: that you see it on, uh, online a lot, you know,
- 19:21Speaker 4: where it's like the record scratch and the closeup of
- 19:24Speaker 4: someone's face.
- 19:25Speaker 1: And it's like, you're probably wondering how I got here.
- 19:27Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 19:28Speaker 4: That's that's how I envisioned pulling off that with audio.
- 19:32Speaker 4: No visual, obviously, at that time. So I thought it
- 19:35Speaker 4: would be funny if I go into the production studio
- 19:37Speaker 4: and do like this outlandish.
- 19:40Speaker 1: Just you think he's going in? No, like one.
- 19:46Speaker 3: No.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Right. And then I'm listening to all the different.
- 19:50Speaker 4: Derivations that are available to me you know on the
- 19:53Speaker 4: cool edit program.
- 19:54Speaker 2: Yes and what in rome yeah it's like slow it
- 19:58Speaker 2: down garble it bubble it like all these different effects
- 20:02Speaker 2: And so I'm just playing with them, figuring out which
- 20:04Speaker 2: one do I want to use.
- 20:06Speaker 4: And then because I don't have much of a governor
- 20:08Speaker 4: to make things short and sweet, I just fucking put
- 20:12Speaker 4: the XLF theme behind it and just played everyone 15
- 20:16Speaker 4: times to the point where it becomes funny because it's
- 20:20Speaker 4: so ham-handed. The way that I wanted the original laugh
- 20:26Speaker 4: was just the quick no laugh.
- 20:28Speaker 1: No.
- 20:29Speaker 4: And then that would be, that literally be it. That
- 20:31Speaker 4: was my concept. And then it just became, Oh, I'm
- 20:34Speaker 4: just going to keep going. I'm just going to keep going.
- 20:36Speaker 4: And when you think it's over, there's going to be
- 20:38Speaker 4: a whole nother round of no. I remember playing that,
- 20:46Speaker 4: making you guys laugh.
- 20:47Speaker 2: Oh, it's a masterclass because I'm thinking to myself, how
- 20:50Speaker 2: can a man make a montage about a single word answer?
- 20:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:55Speaker 2: To a question from boog and uh and you did
- 20:58Speaker 2: it it's a master class i believe it's on your
- 21:00Speaker 2: mount rushmore of montages i do.
- 21:02Speaker 4: Yeah it's on the mount rushmore of things that never
- 21:05Speaker 4: should have been that long and probably shouldn't have been
- 21:08Speaker 4: created but as we said in the beginning of the
- 21:12Speaker 4: pod it was the wild wild west everything goes yeah
- 21:15Speaker 4: that included yeah My production.
- 21:19Speaker 2: Dan was so upset at Boog for putting him on
- 21:21Speaker 2: the spot there. He was just behind the scenes. He
- 21:23Speaker 2: was really, really upset with Boog for the follow up
- 21:27Speaker 2: and Boog didn't care.
- 21:28Speaker 4: Well, Dan, I'm telling you, he got out of it
- 21:31Speaker 4: in a very clever way because I think people would
- 21:33Speaker 4: have called listeners would have called Dan out on it. Oh,
- 21:35Speaker 4: you guys have talked about Reggie Miller being a Hall
- 21:37Speaker 4: of Famer for so long. He's sitting next to you.
- 21:40Speaker 3: Yes.
- 21:40Speaker 4: And you're not going to bring it up with him.
- 21:42Speaker 4: So Dan, in a very clever fashion, brought it up
- 21:45Speaker 4: by saying, hey, do you think you're a Hall of Famer?
- 21:47Speaker 1: Yes.
- 21:47Speaker 4: And that would have been the end of it. And
- 21:49Speaker 4: Dan would have mitigated any of those comments, right? Oh, no,
- 21:52Speaker 4: I brought it up to him. He said he wasn't
- 21:53Speaker 4: a Hall of Famer, so I don't need to jam
- 21:55Speaker 4: in at that point. And Boog just fucking pulled the
- 21:58Speaker 4: rug out from under him.
- 21:59Speaker 2: So the way I would have done it, and I
- 22:00Speaker 2: told Dan this after the fact, is, hey, Reggie, there's
- 22:03Speaker 2: a lot of people who say you're not a Hall
- 22:06Speaker 2: of Famer.
- 22:06Speaker 1: What do you say to those people?
- 22:09Speaker 4: Another way to get around it. Where you don't take
- 22:11Speaker 4: ownership over the statement, but you kind of take ownership
- 22:16Speaker 4: over the statement.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Ridiculous. Oh, my God. Those are great memories. They really are. Yes.
- 22:23Speaker 4: The Shaq birthday party at the Hard Rock, if I
- 22:27Speaker 4: remember correctly, was nowhere near as successful as we thought
- 22:31Speaker 4: it was going to be.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Am I correct in that?
- 22:34Speaker 2: Yeah, I remember it like that. It paled in comparison
- 22:37Speaker 2: to what we did. at the Versace mansion. I mean,
- 22:40Speaker 2: that was a who's, it was a who's literally a
- 22:43Speaker 2: who's who of celebrities who hung out there. I think
- 22:46Speaker 2: they tried to do it at hard rock live.
- 22:48Speaker 1: It was big.
- 22:48Speaker 2: There was a lot going on there. Like people would
- 22:51Speaker 2: show up to the hard rock. As you know, yes,
- 22:52Speaker 2: it was too big. You couldn't really find where you
- 22:54Speaker 2: were going. And people just showed up there, whether, whether
- 22:58Speaker 2: they were invited to Shaq's party or not, because it
- 23:00Speaker 2: was the hard rock and there were things going on
- 23:02Speaker 2: open to the public.
- 23:04Speaker 1: I'm not, I don't think so. I mean, I'd find
- 23:07Speaker 1: it hard to.
- 23:07Speaker 2: Believe Shaq had a birthday open to the public, but maybe.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Dude likes to make money. It was open bar, I
- 23:13Speaker 1: can tell you.
- 23:19Speaker 3: That much.
- 23:19Speaker 4: I mean, rarely do you hear a person slur that
- 23:24Speaker 4: way in a private moment. Like when you're slurring in
- 23:28Speaker 4: that fashion, you are so close to being completely passed out.
- 23:33Speaker 4: that generally if you're sitting at the bar at Flanagan's,
- 23:36Speaker 4: like the guy who's that fucking hammered is just not
- 23:40Speaker 4: talking at that point because his mouth isn't working.
- 23:44Speaker 1: But almost never.
- 23:46Speaker 4: Do you hear someone doing a radio show in that
- 23:49Speaker 4: condition and not being pulled aside by the way, shame
- 23:54Speaker 4: on us, but it was the wild, wild West.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Yes.
- 23:57Speaker 4: Most radio stations, I think at this point would pull
- 24:00Speaker 4: someone away, you know, Michael K and, hey, Michael, I
- 24:04Speaker 4: think you might be better served not being part of
- 24:06Speaker 4: the show and have a water over here.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Yes.
- 24:11Speaker 1: I'm LaGreca.
- 24:12Speaker 4: Right. Maybe Don, step in, pull him away from the broadcast.
- 24:16Speaker 4: We're just like, you're just showing up at the table and,
- 24:21Speaker 4: you know, that's ludicrous.
- 24:22Speaker 3: Okay. Okay.
- 24:24Speaker 4: Like nobody giving you a warning that, hey, maybe you
- 24:27Speaker 4: might be a little intoxicated here.
- 24:29Speaker 1: It's very difficult to understand you. We're just fucking laughing.
- 24:33Speaker 2: The person who would have pulled me off the air
- 24:35Speaker 2: is me. By the way, there are only two people
- 24:41Speaker 2: above you in the hierarchy.
- 24:44Speaker 1: It was Joel and Murph. And trust me, they were
- 24:47Speaker 1: fucking hammered.
- 24:48Speaker 4: They're calling Stugatz a lightweight at that point.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I left both of them at the bar. Yeah. Play
- 24:57Speaker 1: the ludicrous one one more time.
- 24:58Speaker 3: Damn you.
- 25:00Speaker 4: The level of your slurring is just crazy for a broadcast.
- 25:06Speaker 3: How much does the watch cost, Ludicrous? How much? I
- 25:10Speaker 3: don't know. I got it for free.
- 25:11Speaker 1: That's a good question. That's an indelicate question, right?
- 25:14Speaker 6: You don't ask a woman what she weighs, and you
- 25:16Speaker 6: don't ask a hip-hop star what his jewelry's worth, do you?
- 25:19Speaker 1: That's why he let me ask him what he really does.
- 25:22Speaker 5: Jesus.
- 25:23Speaker 4: Dan literally peddles in indelicate questions.
- 25:28Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 25:29Speaker 1: That's on his business card, right?
- 25:34Speaker 4: I ask indelicate questions that no one else.
- 25:38Speaker 1: Will ask, and he fucking calls you out like.
- 25:41Speaker 4: Oh, Stugas, indelicate question to the royalty ludicrous. We had
- 25:47Speaker 4: a suey category, most uncomfortable moment, because of Dan!
- 25:51Speaker 1: I mean, literally, pedals in indelicate questions.
- 25:56Speaker 4: Yes. You ask one question, you're not even being indelicate,
- 25:59Speaker 4: you're just fucking blitzed.
- 26:02Speaker 1: You're like, I.
- 26:04Speaker 4: Mean, that is something you'd say to someone at the
- 26:07Speaker 4: bar when you're hammered, like.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Oh, that's an expensive looking watch you got there.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Hawk, if I was that hammered in the privacy of
- 26:14Speaker 2: my own home, I wouldn't speak to my wife.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Let alone on radio. Oh, God. Oh, my God. And
- 26:22Speaker 1: I was hammered.
- 26:23Speaker 5: Yes.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 26:24Speaker 1: You're, like, having a great time.
- 26:26Speaker 4: You're hammered. You're hanging out with Ludacris. And then Dan
- 26:29Speaker 4: pulls the rug out from under you. Ho, ho, indelicate
- 26:33Speaker 4: questions to God. I remember spitting back at Dan. He
- 26:36Speaker 4: was texting me, get back here, get back here. I'm like,
- 26:38Speaker 4: handle the show by yourself, man. I'm having the time
- 26:40Speaker 4: of my life. Murph has purple teeth.
- 26:47Speaker 1: He was our CFO. He drank a lot of red wine. Yes.
- 26:52Speaker 4: We had a long running joke for about 12 people listening.
- 26:57Speaker 4: We had a long running joke about Murph having purple
- 27:01Speaker 4: teeth because he did drink a lot of red wine.
- 27:05Speaker 4: Can I tell a story? This is such a terrible
- 27:07Speaker 4: like this. I mean, I am painting. I thought it
- 27:10Speaker 4: was funny. You remember going to Atlantic City? Were you
- 27:13Speaker 4: in Atlantic City with us and Murph? I don't think
- 27:15Speaker 4: you made that trip.
- 27:16Speaker 1: No, no, I don't think so. It was me. Dan Frivola.
- 27:22Speaker 3: Wow.
- 27:23Speaker 4: A buddy of ours, John Friedman.
- 27:28Speaker 1: And I think Fake Howard. Yeah, Fake Howard was there.
- 27:31Speaker 1: What a crew. And we're going up to Atlantic City
- 27:34Speaker 1: just to gamble.
- 27:36Speaker 4: And Murph hears about it, and he's like, oh, I'm coming.
- 27:39Speaker 1: I'll be up there. Something like that. He was going anyways, right?
- 27:42Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:43Speaker 1: So I think we're, like, at the Borgata.
- 27:46Speaker 4: And Murph just shows up, and he's, I mean, he's
- 27:50Speaker 4: throwing money around because it's not his.
- 27:53Speaker 2: And he's the CFO, right? It's the radio station. This
- 27:57Speaker 2: is all allegedly.
- 27:58Speaker 1: Yes.
- 27:58Speaker 2: There's nothing like spending money you have access to that's
- 28:02Speaker 2: not yours.
- 28:03Speaker 3: Right.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Right.
- 28:05Speaker 4: Walking into the public restroom at the Borgata, I'm standing
- 28:11Speaker 4: at a urinal.
- 28:12Speaker 1: There's a dozen people in there.
- 28:14Speaker 4: It's a Friday or Saturday night in Atlantic City.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Borgata is packed.
- 28:18Speaker 4: And Murph walks in like the fucking Tasmanian devil. He
- 28:23Speaker 4: doesn't know that I'm in there at the urinal. He
- 28:25Speaker 4: doesn't know anyone in there. He's just got his purple teeth.
- 28:30Speaker 4: And he is hammered. And he comes, you hear the,
- 28:34Speaker 4: you know, the restroom door slam open. There's guys, they're
- 28:38Speaker 4: washing their hands. They're looking at themselves in the mirror.
- 28:41Speaker 4: There's like, you know, six guys lined up at the urinal.
- 28:45Speaker 4: He walks up to the urinal.
- 28:47Speaker 1: And he goes.
- 28:49Speaker 4: Gentlemen, the slam you're about to hear is my cock
- 28:54Speaker 4: hitting the porcelain.
- 28:58Speaker 3: I mean, literally.
- 28:59Speaker 1: That's classic Murph. He has no idea that I'm in. Like,
- 29:03Speaker 1: he's not doing that to show out to me.
- 29:05Speaker 3: No.
- 29:05Speaker 1: He is just hammered in the Borgata.
- 29:08Speaker 4: Yes. There's an audience in the restroom, and he's doing
- 29:12Speaker 4: I've got a big cock joke.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Just in the event anyone got scared when they heard
- 29:18Speaker 1: the sound. The thud you're about to hear. A warning.
- 29:27Speaker 1: Did everyone flee the bathroom?
- 29:30Speaker 4: I mean, everyone's looking around like, who is this crazy man?
- 29:33Speaker 1: I'm like, oh, it's our CFO. Don't worry about him.
- 29:35Speaker 3: He's fine.
- 29:35Speaker 1: He's in charge of the money.
- 29:42Speaker 7: Oh, my God.
- 29:43Speaker 1: What memories, man. Yeah. If I had a....
- 29:48Speaker 4: If I had a chance to buy, if I had
- 29:51Speaker 4: a chance to do T-shirts back in those days, I
- 29:53Speaker 4: would have made a Murph has purple T-shirt back in
- 29:57Speaker 4: those days because everyone around the radio station would have
- 30:00Speaker 4: bought one.
- 30:02Speaker 3: Murph.
- 30:03Speaker 1: What was the sentence he said before he ripped it out?
- 30:07Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure it was, don't be alarmed.
- 30:10Speaker 4: The thud you're about to hear is just my cock
- 30:13Speaker 4: hitting the porcelain.
- 30:14Speaker 1: I would have put that on his shirt. Just the
- 30:20Speaker 1: sound you're about to hear is my cock.
- 30:26Speaker 4: The way that we have the t-shirts is just like
- 30:28Speaker 4: attributed to Sam's need. It's like a small attribution at
- 30:32Speaker 4: the bottom.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Murph.
- 30:36Speaker 4: Murph comma CFO. Primetime media.
- 30:40Speaker 3: What a time, man.
- 30:42Speaker 1: Was that the name of the company? Was it Primetime Media?
- 30:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it was Primetime Media Group. Yes, and then it
- 30:47Speaker 2: was obviously 790 The Ticket. One station, Rogue Station, run
- 30:51Speaker 2: by me, Murph, and Joel.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Man.
- 30:54Speaker 4: I'm guessing at the beginning there were ideas about growing it, right?
- 30:58Speaker 4: About gobbling up more radio stations?
- 31:01Speaker 2: Yeah, well, Joel wanted to buy 790.
- 31:04Speaker 1: We never got there, obviously.
- 31:06Speaker 2: But yes, the original plan before the Versace mansion and
- 31:10Speaker 2: before we plopped down a lot of money on the
- 31:13Speaker 2: Dolphins that, quite frankly, we shouldn't have done. The plan
- 31:16Speaker 2: was to try to buy some stations in multiple markets, yes.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Never got that.
- 31:21Speaker 4: I don't know if I'm giving away info that's not,
- 31:25Speaker 4: because I know what the cost was to lease the
- 31:28Speaker 4: radio station from Lincoln Financial every year.
- 31:31Speaker 1: Have we revealed what that is? Is that public knowledge?
- 31:34Speaker 2: I'm not sure if I've ever revealed it. I don't
- 31:36Speaker 2: mind revealing it. It doesn't matter at this point. I mean,
- 31:38Speaker 2: it was $ 2 million a year, right, just to lease it? No,
- 31:41Speaker 2: it was less than $ 2 million a year. It was
- 31:43Speaker 2: about $ 1. 1, I think, in year one, something like that.
- 31:45Speaker 4: I do believe. So they're leasing. The company who owns 790,
- 31:48Speaker 4: The Signal. They don't want to sell the station. There's
- 31:52Speaker 4: a finite number of radio signals, right? You can't make
- 31:56Speaker 4: any more.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Yes.
- 31:57Speaker 4: You can do satellite radio. You can do HD channels.
- 32:00Speaker 4: But the actual radio spectrum, which is available in cars
- 32:04Speaker 4: or on radios, there's a finite amount you cannot make anymore.
- 32:08Speaker 4: So when you own one of these signals, there's an
- 32:11Speaker 4: inherent value. People don't want to give it up.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Yes. And so.
- 32:15Speaker 4: Instead of selling 790 AM to Stugatz and Joel and Murph,
- 32:21Speaker 4: the owners of it, Lincoln Financial, said, we'll lease it
- 32:23Speaker 4: to you. It's called an LMA in radio.
- 32:25Speaker 3: Yes.
- 32:26Speaker 1: You would have learned that if you watch WKRP.
- 32:27Speaker 4: But it's called an LMA, which is called a local
- 32:31Speaker 4: marketing agreement.
- 32:32Speaker 3: Yes.
- 32:32Speaker 2: So we controlled all the programming, all the sales. We
- 32:35Speaker 2: controlled the radio station. We didn't answer to anyone. We
- 32:38Speaker 2: just didn't own the radio station. We desperately wanted to
- 32:42Speaker 2: own it. but we leased the station. So just to
- 32:45Speaker 2: give people an idea, Huck, 790 at the time, Waxy,
- 32:49Speaker 2: was brokering out time, but in blocks, like two-hour blocks,
- 32:53Speaker 2: four-hour blocks. People were paying to be on the air
- 32:56Speaker 2: at Waxy. And we said, get all those people off
- 32:59Speaker 2: the air. We'll program it into a sports station. We'll
- 33:02Speaker 2: take all 24 hours, seven days a week.
- 33:04Speaker 4: Because when you broker a radio station, You're hoping that
- 33:08Speaker 4: the company pays you every week for the one hour
- 33:11Speaker 4: that they're brokering. And it's like, I mean, it is
- 33:14Speaker 4: a pain in the ass. Then you get a group
- 33:16Speaker 4: that comes in and says, we'll pay you for the
- 33:18Speaker 4: entire year.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Yes.
- 33:19Speaker 4: You don't have to broker it out hour by hour.
- 33:21Speaker 4: We'll pay you a fee for the entire year. The
- 33:24Speaker 4: amazing thing about where radio is nowadays in 2026 versus now.
- 33:28Speaker 4: where it was in 2004, you could buy that signal
- 33:31Speaker 4: right now for $ 1.
- 33:33Speaker 3: 1 million.
- 33:33Speaker 1: Easily, yes.
- 33:35Speaker 3: Easily.
- 33:35Speaker 1: Or broker it for a lot less, yes. Yeah, yeah.
- 33:39Speaker 1: Don't get me thinking. Yeah, it's the state of the art.
- 33:42Speaker 4: I think you and I should buy 790 and a
- 33:45Speaker 4: local newspaper.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Done.
- 33:47Speaker 4: It'd be about $ 46.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Can you imagine if we brought 790 the ticket back?
- 33:53Speaker 1: I mean, my God.
- 33:54Speaker 4: Let's buy the Palm Beach Post. Let's start with the
- 33:57Speaker 4: Palm Beach Post. What do you think we can get
- 33:59Speaker 4: the Palm Beach Post for?
- 34:00Speaker 1: $ 40, 000? Yeah, $ 50, 000 maybe, tops. We'll give Cody a job.
- 34:07Speaker 4: Let's see if Murph knows anything about publishing. What's Murph
- 34:12Speaker 4: doing nowadays?
- 34:13Speaker 3: Oh, I have no idea.
- 34:15Speaker 1: You don't keep in contact with him or Joel? I
- 34:17Speaker 1: haven't spoken.
- 34:18Speaker 2: The last time I spoke to Joel was probably, I
- 34:21Speaker 2: don't know, maybe a month or two, three after we
- 34:24Speaker 2: were done. Murph more recently. He was still in Atlantic City. No,
- 34:34Speaker 2: Murph's a good guy. Joel's a great guy. Still at
- 34:37Speaker 2: Purple Team.
- 34:38Speaker 3: Yes.
- 34:39Speaker 1: I just, you know.
- 34:40Speaker 2: For a million different reasons, just haven't been able to
- 34:43Speaker 2: connect with Joel. Mostly because Joel doesn't want to connect
- 34:48Speaker 2: with me.
- 34:49Speaker 4: When did 790 end? It continued on under the stewardship
- 34:55Speaker 4: of Lincoln Financial and Jefferson Pilot. When did it end
- 34:58Speaker 4: as a primetime media entity?
- 35:01Speaker 3: Oh, gosh.
- 35:02Speaker 2: I want to say three or four years into it,
- 35:03Speaker 2: something like that. Right after we lost the Dolphins, so maybe...
- 35:08Speaker 2: We signed the Dolphins in year one. We had the
- 35:10Speaker 2: Dolphins for three years, and then we got rid of
- 35:12Speaker 2: the Dolphins. So I want to say maybe four or
- 35:15Speaker 2: five years in. It went back to Dennis Collins. Here
- 35:18Speaker 2: was the funny thing about our station hub. For as
- 35:21Speaker 2: messy as it was at times, and in spots, right,
- 35:25Speaker 2: the station was so attractive. Dennis Collins ran that cluster
- 35:29Speaker 2: of stations that he was so impressed with our show
- 35:32Speaker 2: in the afternoon.
- 35:34Speaker 1: And really the inroads we had made from.
- 35:35Speaker 2: A sales standpoint, because sales were moving up, that he
- 35:40Speaker 2: wanted to take it on. He didn't want to just say, hey,
- 35:42Speaker 2: lease is over, we're done. He loved the radio station,
- 35:45Speaker 2: and he loved our show. And for those reasons, he
- 35:49Speaker 2: wanted to keep it going, and he did. And we
- 35:51Speaker 2: got the heat right after that, if you remember. It
- 35:54Speaker 2: was such a testament to Dennis Collins, because I believe
- 35:57Speaker 2: 99 out of 100 market managers.
- 36:01Speaker 4: When primetime media stopped paying their rental fee for 790.
- 36:06Speaker 4: would have just gone back to brokered time because it
- 36:08Speaker 4: was less of a headache than dealing with me, Dan,
- 36:12Speaker 4: Stu Gotts, Sid, OJ, Steve White, Allison. I mean, you
- 36:20Speaker 4: can go down the list. All you were dealing with
- 36:23Speaker 4: at that point was Gary Abar. Gary Abar, like Dennis Collins,
- 36:27Speaker 4: chose to deal with us.
- 36:30Speaker 1: On a daily basis.
- 36:32Speaker 4: Rather than just Gary Abar programming in block programming that
- 36:38Speaker 4: was being purchased, you know, from outside broadcasters, mostly religious broadcasting.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Right. So think about that.
- 36:43Speaker 3: Right.
- 36:44Speaker 2: He wanted all of us around as crazy as we
- 36:46Speaker 2: were because he enjoyed it that much. He thought the
- 36:48Speaker 2: product was that good. He could have just went back
- 36:50Speaker 2: to brokering blocks of program. He was doing just fine
- 36:53Speaker 2: by the way, with that station.
- 36:54Speaker 1: He was, I know.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Uh, but when we got the heat, that really sealed it.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Cause LeBron was coming down here.
- 37:00Speaker 1: Yeah. The heat wanted to be on a sports radio station.
- 37:03Speaker 1: They called me.
- 37:04Speaker 2: I put him in touch with Dennis and he got
- 37:05Speaker 2: that deal done. And we were flying, man. We owe
- 37:10Speaker 2: LeBron a lot.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Oh, you ain't lying.
- 37:12Speaker 4: There's a lot of media people in South Florida who
- 37:15Speaker 4: owe careers to LeBron.
- 37:17Speaker 1: No doubt.
- 37:18Speaker 4: When they talk about LeBron being an economy, he is
- 37:21Speaker 4: an economy. But he created national sports media stars based
- 37:28Speaker 4: on the four years that he spent down here.
- 37:32Speaker 1: If you want to continue hearing, great podcast.
- 37:35Speaker 4: Moments like today where we got to nothing that we were.
- 37:38Speaker 1: Going to get to. That's okay. I mean, that's what
- 37:40Speaker 1: radio is all about. You know that.
- 37:43Speaker 4: I mean, the time of our lives today, I would
- 37:45Speaker 4: invite you to visit my son's merch store, which is
- 37:49Speaker 4: horse muffins.com. And, uh, you can show your support to
- 37:53Speaker 4: this podcast by picking up, uh, Stugatz and Hockman t-shirt
- 37:58Speaker 4: or a tumbler or a beer pint. You can recreate
- 38:02Speaker 4: at home with the Stugatz and Hockman beer pint. You
- 38:05Speaker 4: can recreate Stugatz's ludicrous moments by getting so fucking hammered.
- 38:11Speaker 4: that you just start talking to plants or anything around
- 38:14Speaker 4: your house in a very slurred fashion, but you do
- 38:18Speaker 4: it while drinking out of a, with.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Stu Gatz and the Hockman beer pint.
- 38:21Speaker 4: So it's all there on the website, which is horse muffins.com.
- 38:27Speaker 4: Every purchase is genuinely appreciated.
- 38:29Speaker 2: So I know our intention was to do a second
- 38:32Speaker 2: episode on Greg Cody.
- 38:33Speaker 1: We will do that next episode. Yes.
- 38:35Speaker 2: I do have a surprise for you from Greg Cody.
- 38:38Speaker 2: Do you want me to save it for the next episode?
- 38:41Speaker 2: You want me to tell you now? Because we did
- 38:43Speaker 2: one episode on Cody, and I sent it to him.
- 38:46Speaker 4: You better tell me, because you'll probably forget by the
- 38:49Speaker 4: next episode.
- 38:50Speaker 2: So Greg Cody... I sent them the episode. He was
- 38:55Speaker 2: so moved, moved to tears.
- 38:58Speaker 1: He loved it. He thanked both of us.
- 39:01Speaker 2: I told him not to text you because it'd be
- 39:03Speaker 2: funny if the first time he responds to you is
- 39:06Speaker 2: on the air. Because he has invited both me and
- 39:09Speaker 2: you on the Greg Cody show featuring Greg Cody.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Stop it.
- 39:14Speaker 3: Stop it.
- 39:16Speaker 4: I mean, all these years of toiling in the nightclubs,
- 39:20Speaker 4: I've finally been invited.
- 39:22Speaker 1: To the Tonight Show.
- 39:22Speaker 2: Yes, he said we'll promote it as something, a vehicle
- 39:25Speaker 2: where we're all going to bash Dan and then we'll
- 39:28Speaker 2: never talk about Dan.
- 39:32Speaker 1: We'll just celebrate Greg.
- 39:33Speaker 3: He's good. That Cody.
- 39:35Speaker 4: How can I say no? Cody is good. I only
- 39:43Speaker 4: wish we had thought of that.
- 39:44Speaker 1: Yes, I'm not giving it all away.
- 39:46Speaker 2: I'll have another surprise for you via Greg Cody on
- 39:49Speaker 2: the next episode.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Something that's going to make you and the audience.
- 39:53Speaker 3: Laugh out loud.
- 39:54Speaker 1: That is amazing news. I'm very excited about that. I
- 39:58Speaker 1: told them home and home. A good move out of you.
- 40:03Speaker 4: A couple of savvy broadcasters witnessing in action.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Who's going to blink first?
- 40:13Speaker 4: Another friend of ours, Frank Caliendo, is performing in West
- 40:19Speaker 4: Palm Beach, well, really Wellington, this Friday and Saturday. And
- 40:23Speaker 4: I don't know when people are listening to this podcast,
- 40:25Speaker 4: but it's Friday the 9th and Saturday the 10th, I believe, right?
- 40:32Speaker 1: 10th and 11th, I believe.
- 40:33Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Is it 10th and 11th? I think so, yes. Yeah,
- 40:35Speaker 1: look at that. No, 9th and 10th. Like I said.
- 40:38Speaker 4: Friday and Saturday, 9th and 10th. And I know he
- 40:41Speaker 4: was on your national show yesterday.
- 40:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 40:45Speaker 4: And it was a frenetic pace. I was tired listening
- 40:48Speaker 4: to it. I don't know how he did that.
- 40:50Speaker 2: He did the weekend observations. I had a list of
- 40:54Speaker 2: characters to choose from. He told me, let me get
- 40:56Speaker 2: through two or three and then just change it on
- 40:59Speaker 2: the fly. And I marvel, too, at his talent talk,
- 41:02Speaker 2: his ability to go from Jeff Goldblum to Jim Rome
- 41:07Speaker 2: to Charles Barkley. It's just he's incredible. He is so
- 41:11Speaker 2: much fun. He'll be in studio with you this week.
- 41:13Speaker 2: He'll be in studio with me later this week. But
- 41:15Speaker 2: him doing the weekend observations was fantastic.
- 41:19Speaker 1: It was great.
- 41:20Speaker 4: So, yeah, he's going to be in studio with me
- 41:23Speaker 4: and you. I'll be doing my WQAM show Thursday and
- 41:28Speaker 4: then he's going to leave our studio and go do
- 41:30Speaker 4: your show.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Yes. Right after that.
- 41:32Speaker 4: But he's going to be the reason I brought it
- 41:34Speaker 4: up is if you want to get tickets, it'll sell out.
- 41:36Speaker 4: I'm going to the Friday night show, by the way.
- 41:39Speaker 4: It's in Wellington. They call it the Palm Beach Improv.
- 41:42Speaker 4: But you can go to Frank on stage dot com.
- 41:46Speaker 4: and get tickets. There's one show Friday night. There's two
- 41:49Speaker 4: shows on Saturday. Canes are on a bye week this Saturday,
- 41:52Speaker 4: so it's not even like you have to worry about
- 41:54Speaker 4: missing a Canes game.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Just Alabama and Georgia.
- 41:58Speaker 4: I mean, who wants to watch that crap?
- 42:05Speaker 1: You're going Friday night. You're going Friday. I'm going Friday night.
- 42:09Speaker 3: Okay.
- 42:09Speaker 2: Because Saturday had a earlier option that I'm intrigued by.
- 42:14Speaker 5: Right.
- 42:15Speaker 4: Which is the show I was actually going to go
- 42:17Speaker 4: to until I decided I was going to go to
- 42:19Speaker 4: the Panthers home opener on Saturday, which I think is
- 42:23Speaker 4: also at six o'clock.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Wow.
- 42:25Speaker 4: So this is the part of the podcast where I
- 42:27Speaker 4: tell you my weekend schedule. So Friday, I'm going to
- 42:30Speaker 4: go see Frank Caliendo at the Palm Beach Improv.
- 42:33Speaker 3: Excellent.
- 42:34Speaker 1: And Saturday, I'll be at the Panthers home opener.
- 42:37Speaker 7: Right.
- 42:38Speaker 1: And then Sunday, NFL game.
- 42:41Speaker 4: All day, gambling, watching, losing, cursing. Probably find a little
- 42:48Speaker 4: time for some avocado toast in there as well.
- 42:50Speaker 3: Of course you will.
- 42:53Speaker 2: If your choices are Commanders and Colts at 930 or
- 42:57Speaker 2: avocado toast, you go get that toast, man.
- 43:00Speaker 4: So I live bet Indianapolis when they were down 6-0
- 43:06Speaker 4: because Mariota had gone out. And I'm like, Indy's going
- 43:10Speaker 4: to figure this out. That was one of the best
- 43:11Speaker 4: live bets I've ever made in my life.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Yes.
- 43:14Speaker 4: That was a good one. Last night, I had a
- 43:19Speaker 4: lot of money on New Orleans. I did not see
- 43:23Speaker 4: how an emotional wave would just lead them to a
- 43:27Speaker 4: three touchdown victory.
- 43:29Speaker 2: I think we had it on the poll yesterday is
- 43:31Speaker 2: betting on the Falcons anti-Americans.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, what happened there last night? B. John Robinson. Oh,
- 43:42Speaker 1: my God. Crazy what he did. Yes.
- 43:45Speaker 3: All right.
- 43:46Speaker 4: So anyway, would love for you to buy a shirt,
- 43:49Speaker 4: hoodie or tumbler or beer pint at horse muffins dot com.
- 43:54Speaker 4: And if you want to see our friend Frank Caliendo
- 43:57Speaker 4: in Wellington Friday and Saturday this week, the 9th and 10th.
- 44:01Speaker 1: Go to frankonstage.com.
- 44:04Speaker 4: While you're at it, make sure you're subscribed to this
- 44:07Speaker 4: podcast if you're not already subscribed. And we would love
- 44:11Speaker 4: a high rating.
- 44:13Speaker 1: I want a five-star rating, not a high rating. Five
- 44:15Speaker 1: stars only.
- 44:16Speaker 3: I want comments.
- 44:17Speaker 1: Five stars only.
- 44:17Speaker 2: Yes, and then I want you to unsubscribe and resubscribe
- 44:20Speaker 2: and do it all over again.
- 44:21Speaker 1: How about that?
- 44:22Speaker 4: And can you subscribe everywhere, Taylor? Like, could you subscribe on...
- 44:26Speaker 4: Apple Podcasts and iHeart and YouTube. Like, you could subscribe
- 44:31Speaker 4: multiple times, right?
- 44:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I think Spotify, it's follow, but for the most part,
- 44:35Speaker 1: you could subscribe anywhere.
- 44:37Speaker 3: All right.
- 44:37Speaker 1: Well, do it as much as you can. I'd do
- 44:39Speaker 1: it if I knew how. I mean... Taylor. Get out
- 44:43Speaker 1: of here. Taylor, follow the show for me. Get out
- 44:49Speaker 1: of here.
- 44:49Speaker 4: Stu Gatz has to name three athlete nicknames.
- 44:54Speaker 3: Yes.
- 44:56Speaker 7: Oh, boy.
- 44:57Speaker 2: How about Chris Bosch? Do you know Chris Bosch's nickname?
- 45:02Speaker 2: I should know Chris Bosch's nickname. I called him Boschy.
- 45:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:09Speaker 4: There is one listed here on Wikipedia that I had
- 45:12Speaker 4: never heard before, but it makes sense.
- 45:13Speaker 1: Like a dinosaur or something like that, right? The Bostrich.
- 45:19Speaker 1: Nobody called him that. Nobody. If they did, he would
- 45:22Speaker 1: punch you in the face. It's great, though, that it's
- 45:24Speaker 1: listed here. Do you remember his nickname, Taylor? Chris Bosh?
- 45:30Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:31Speaker 1: The Bostrich? I just told you that. That's why I
- 45:36Speaker 1: was so confused.
- 45:37Speaker 3: He does it right.
- 45:37Speaker 1: I know. He just announced it. No, it's CB4. Yeah, CB4. No.
- 45:41Speaker 2: What Hawk was saying, there's a definitive nickname. The Bostrich was.
- 45:48Speaker 1: Just an option. I love that. How about your guy,
- 45:51Speaker 1: Jalen Brunson? Jalen Brunson changed Taylor's life. Do you know
- 45:57Speaker 1: his nickname? I know, a couple.
- 46:01Speaker 3: Damn.
- 46:03Speaker 1: You can phone a friend. That'd be Taylor. All right,
- 46:05Speaker 1: I will phone a friend. Taylor, go ahead. He's currently following.
- 46:09Speaker 1: He wants to go out to knock for me.
- 46:11Speaker 3: Go ahead.
- 46:11Speaker 1: What do you have? Captain Clutch. Captain Clutch. Oh, not
- 46:16Speaker 1: you either. Or the Brunson Burner sometimes.
- 46:18Speaker 2: The Brunson Burner, right. But I gave him that nickname.
- 46:21Speaker 2: I mean, Breen stole it from me.
- 46:22Speaker 1: How about that? Did you watch the Knicks on SNL? No,
- 46:27Speaker 1: I was doing anything else. No, he's upset with Brunson.
- 46:29Speaker 1: He thinks Brunson should be focused on the season. Oh,
- 46:34Speaker 1: you're that guy. He's me.
- 46:36Speaker 3: Yes.
- 46:38Speaker 1: Jimmy Butler. Uh, Jimmy buckets. That's right.
- 46:43Speaker 4: Yes.
- 46:44Speaker 1: And how about back from our day? Joe Barry Carroll.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Oh my God. What a name, man. You're making it
- 46:53Speaker 1: difficult today.
- 46:54Speaker 3: Yes.
- 46:56Speaker 1: Uh, Great big man. Back in the days where a
- 47:01Speaker 1: big man meant something. Yeah. You ever heard of him, Taylor? JBC? Never. JBC?
- 47:11Speaker 1: I would have gone with that.
- 47:12Speaker 4: I'm almost tempted to accept JBC because I believe people
- 47:16Speaker 4: had to have called him that. But remember, he had
- 47:21Speaker 4: a knock on him for being aloof.
- 47:28Speaker 1: He did have that knock. I don't know it. I don't.
- 47:30Speaker 1: It was Joe Barely Carroll.
- 47:31Speaker 4: I mean, these aren't easy.
- 47:38Speaker 2: Does he have to do three more? Does he have
- 47:40Speaker 2: to do three more? Why, it's three consecutive? Jesus Christ,
