Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
• 0:03
Epstein Chronicles. In this episode, we're going to pick up
• 0:06
where we left off with the Bill Gates transcript from
• 0:10
his meeting with Congress. Question we've already discussed mister Nikolch.
• 0:15
Doctor Nikolch, of course, introduced you to mister Epstein. So
• 0:19
in your words, can you characterize doctor nikolch relationship with
• 0:23
mister Epstein, or at least your understanding of their relationship. Answer? Well,
• 0:27
during the time I knew Epstein, I thought it was
• 0:30
just he had met him before I had, and he
• 0:34
was kind of organizing the visits that took place. In
• 0:36
Looking at the email documents that came out in January,
• 0:39
to my surprise, I now see that he had quite
• 0:42
an extensive relationship with mister Epstein. So I was not
• 0:46
aware of all of that during the time that I
• 0:48
met with mister Epstein in twenty eleven to twenty fourteen. Question,
• 0:53
are you aware that doctor Nikolch was ultimately named in
• 0:56
one of mister Epstein's final will and testaments? Answer? I've
• 1:00
seen that in the press. Question So you learned about
• 1:04
that much later in the press? Answer? I hope it's
• 1:07
an accurate thing. I was a press report that mentioned it. Question,
• 1:11
but you have no first hand knowledge of that? Answer,
• 1:14
no question. Did that surprise you when you read it?
• 1:17
Answer A lot question by mister Spector. I'd like to
• 1:22
enter into the record majority Exhibit one, which is an
• 1:24
email that Epstein sent to doctor Nikolic on June sixteenth,
• 1:28
twenty thirteen. The BAITS number on this document is EFTA
• 1:33
zero zero eight seven three eight seven four. And just
• 1:37
for the record, all of the BAITS numbers that begin
• 1:39
with the FTA are documents that the Department of Justice
• 1:42
released pursuant to the Epstein Files Transparency Act. I'll give
• 1:47
you a second to look at it, but I will
• 1:49
note that I'll be reading much of or all of
• 1:53
it into the record, so you don't need to read
• 1:55
the entire thing. The first question is have you seen
• 1:58
these emails before? Answer? Sure, yeah, okay, I mean I
• 2:01
may have seen these when they came out in January,
• 2:04
but not before that question. So you don't recall ever
• 2:07
seeing these emails prior to the Epstein Files Transparency AAC
• 2:10
release by the DOJ. Answer, I did not question in
• 2:14
the first email. So the email at the bottom of
• 2:16
the page that's an email from mister Epstein. Context Clues
• 2:20
from the rest of the document indicate that that was
• 2:22
sent to Boris Nikolch, but of course that is redacted
• 2:26
on the document he sent to do Boris on Sunday,
• 2:30
June sixteenth, at twelve oh two. It reads to me
• 2:33
and then it looks like a draft of a statement
• 2:36
or an email that says Bill. I'm in tears as
• 2:38
I write this. I have barely slept for three days.
• 2:41
I'm devastated beyond words. I find myself losing my best
• 2:45
friend in my career, all in one day, by no
• 2:48
fault on my own. As your friend, I suggest you
• 2:51
carefully reconsider your alternatives. If Melinda decides to file for divorce,
• 2:56
I will of course stand by you and help any
• 2:59
way I can. I want to see you happy. Truly
• 3:03
difficult choices no matter what. As you know, I'm going
• 3:06
in for delicate surgery on my eyes on Tuesday. This
• 3:09
timing cannot be worse. I will totally be out of
• 3:12
it for a few days. I hope you're able to
• 3:15
convince Melinda to allow me to continue doing my job,
• 3:18
a job you described as I could not have done better.
• 3:22
I hope to ask her face to face to change
• 3:24
your mind. I have done nothing wrong. And the email continues,
• 3:28
but just for the record, there in twenty thirteen when
• 3:32
this email was sent, were you and your wife Melinda
• 3:34
considering divorce? Answer? No question. Why would mister Epstein or
• 3:39
doctor Nikolch be under the impression that you were? Answer well,
• 3:43
I never would have discussed anything relating to that subject
• 3:47
with mister Epstein. I told Boris doctor Nikolich sorry that
• 3:51
I shared the information about the two affairs, and he
• 3:53
may have thought, you know, that meant our marriage was
• 3:56
at risk. It was certainly a deeply troubling thing for
• 3:59
my wife, But at this time there was not a
• 4:02
discussion of a divorce question. It seems in this draft
• 4:06
that's written from doctor Nikolich's perspective that he may have
• 4:09
believed that Melinda was the one who wanted him to
• 4:12
leave the job. And I think you characterized it earlier
• 4:14
as kind of a back and forth discussion with your
• 4:17
then wife. Was it Melinda's discussion to ask doctor Nikolitch
• 4:22
to accelerate his departure or was it a mutual decision
• 4:25
between the two of you. Answer? It was a mutual decision.
• 4:29
I agreed with Melinda that having him leave pretty soon
• 4:32
was the best thing, and so that's what I did,
• 4:35
And that was a quicker departure then would have happened otherwise. Question.
• 4:40
I'll continue reading the draft email it continues. However, I
• 4:43
recognize the fact that it might not be possible at
• 4:46
this time. I also recognize that I will need a
• 4:49
lawyer to review any agreement we might enter into. But
• 4:52
I don't trust any with such sensitive information. I've asked
• 4:56
Jeffrey to oversee and negotiate for me, and have given
• 5:00
empower of attorney to act on my behalf. He also
• 5:03
needed to be my health proxy during my operation. I
• 5:06
have informed them of all the details surrounding our dilemma.
• 5:10
I trust them one hundred percent. My communication with him
• 5:13
is privileged. No worry. He's agreed to act as my
• 5:16
financial and legal representative. You can trust them. He's dealt
• 5:21
with very similar problems in the past. Obviously, he hasn't
• 5:25
given me the details. I would greatly appreciate you and
• 5:28
he talking directly. He does not know Larry and cannot
• 5:31
be open with him. He doesn't like or trust pr people.
• 5:35
This is a terrible circumstance in which we find ourselves.
• 5:38
But I'm confident of our friendship, and I know you
• 5:41
know how devoted I am to you, And I will
• 5:44
say I asked you if you've seen these emails before
• 5:47
the release, but I'll be more specific. Do you have
• 5:50
any email or any other type of message that's similar
• 5:53
to that draft I just read to you? Did you
• 5:55
receive something like that in twenty thirteen? Answer? Never? Never
• 5:59
anything close. Question. So doctor Nikolitch and mister Epstein are
• 6:03
communicating about something that they might send to you, but
• 6:06
it sounds like they didn't. Is that right? Answer? I
• 6:09
never received anything like that. Question. In the second email
• 6:13
in the middle that doctor Nikolch writes back to mister
• 6:16
Epstein at twelve twelve on June sixteenth, twenty thirteen, doctor
• 6:21
Nikolch seems to say, this is great. My only worry
• 6:25
is whether I should send him now or tell him
• 6:27
when I see him on Monday. He's still trying to
• 6:29
make it work with Melinda. He's having next round of
• 6:32
negotiation with her next weekend. If all fails, then it's
• 6:36
a negotiation for a next step. If I send it
• 6:39
right now, it reads that I accepted. It's all over. Finally,
• 6:43
I can't put something such as divorce in an email.
• 6:46
If she reads, she'll go the extra step to be
• 6:48
as nasty as possible. Also, I think that my chances
• 6:52
of convincing him to talk to you or hire if
• 6:55
I do it in person and not over the email.
• 6:57
So how about hold this? So how about you hold
• 7:00
this for eight days? Thank you? B It sounds like
• 7:03
mister Nikolich agrees with the perspective denoted in mister Epstein's
• 7:07
draft and that he would be more interested though, in
• 7:10
having the conversation with you face to face. Did he
• 7:14
have any sort of conversation with you face to face
• 7:16
during this time? Answer? But I've never seen this email,
• 7:20
so I mean you can ask me questions, but I
• 7:22
add no value questions, so I guess I'll be more specific.
• 7:26
I understand you've testified that you've not seen the email.
• 7:29
Did doctor Nikolitch approach you and communicate these same feelings
• 7:32
in person so not over email? Answer no question in
• 7:37
the draft email, again, understanding that you have not seen
• 7:39
it until much later. Doctor Nikolitch is implying that he
• 7:43
has entrusted Jeffrey Epstein with sensitive information, seemingly with relation
• 7:48
to you, and that he has given Epstein power of
• 7:51
attorney to act on his behalf that he will be
• 7:54
as financial and legal representative. So were you aware that
• 7:58
Jeffrey Epstein was going to be acting as a legal
• 8:01
or financial representative of doctor Nikolich? Answer? Welly, he wasn't
• 8:05
a lawyer, so I'm not sure how a non lawyer
• 8:07
becomes someone's legal representative. Eventually, doctor Nikolich did communicate to
• 8:12
me that he was involving Epstein in the discussion of
• 8:15
doctor Nikolich's exit. I forgot exactly, but he sent he
• 8:18
told me that he was involving Epstein. Question again, you
• 8:22
didn't receive this email, But it seems that they're trying
• 8:25
to get across to you. Is that, while you're correct
• 8:27
that Jeffrey Epstein was not in fact a lawyer, they
• 8:30
are representing him to have some sort of privileged communication
• 8:34
with doctor Nikolach, seemingly in a way that would make
• 8:36
it seem like sensitive information. The sensitive information that mister
• 8:40
Epstein knows about is privileged. Did you ever have a
• 8:44
conversation like that with doctor Nikolich? Answer? No, how could
• 8:48
it be privileged? Question I'm just as confused as you are,
• 8:52
But I guess what I'm asking is, did they represent
• 8:55
to you that it could be privileged? Answer? I told
• 8:59
you that in terms of a waywareness of the affairs
• 9:00
that I had. There were no explicit reference to that,
• 9:03
but there was some what you could call veiled reference
• 9:07
to it, in the form of, hey, we should all
• 9:09
want to be friends. It's only later when Epstein is
• 9:12
talking about his reimbursements to a specific woman that I
• 9:15
was aware of that. I became fully aware of that.
• 9:18
There was a point in the discussions with Boris where I,
• 9:21
you know, I said, I'm not going to be influenced
• 9:24
by what you might or might not know or say.
• 9:26
But again, this email is complete news to me. Question Okay,
• 9:30
the top of the email. I won't read the entire one,
• 9:33
but it seems to imply that you had already given
• 9:35
doctor Nikolch some kind of offer, probably related to his departure.
• 9:39
Had you already given doctor Nickolch some kind of exit
• 9:42
package or offer in June of twenty thirteen? Answer? Yeah,
• 9:47
there was a prior agreement about he ended up making
• 9:49
two investments on our mutual behalf. You know, I'd authorize
• 9:53
him to make three, but he made two, So there
• 9:55
was you know putting into writing how we would handle
• 9:58
his payment for his share of those and then just
• 10:01
the termination agreement. So that was all known before he
• 10:04
engaged Epstein in the exit discussions. Question. Okay, thank you.
• 10:10
I will now enter into the record majority exhibit two,
• 10:13
which is an email from mister Epstein to himself on
• 10:16
July eighteenth, twenty thirteen. This is Mark Bates number EFTA
• 10:21
zero one nine sixty six nine eight eight. And they'll
• 10:25
note for the record that there are a few similar
• 10:27
versions of these emails throughout the files. I think with
• 10:31
things being forwarded along, I'll be referencing this version and
• 10:35
asking you questions about it. Some of the other ones
• 10:38
are just cut off answer, I don't know what you
• 10:42
mean forward it along question. Within the Epstein files, there
• 10:46
are duplicates for various reasons, and I'm just referencing that.
• 10:50
I'm using this particular EFTA number for the record, and
• 10:55
while you're reviewing it, we've had more members and staff join.
• 10:58
Can they please identify themselves for the record, Mister Garcia
• 11:02
Robert Garcia, ranking member redacted, Representative Garcia, Congressman Raja Krishna
• 11:09
Morty from Illinois. Question, mister Gates. Have you seen this
• 11:14
email before? Answer? No, I mean I would have seen
• 11:17
it when it was released in January as part of
• 11:19
the Epstein files, but prior to that, no question. So
• 11:23
this appears to be a draft email or statement that
• 11:25
Epstein may have written he at least sent it to
• 11:28
himself from the perspective of doctor Nikolic. Is at fair answer?
• 11:32
I add no value to that question. Well, we can
• 11:36
agree that this is not the perspective of Jeffrey Epstein.
• 11:39
Is clearly written from the perspective of somebody else. Is
• 11:42
that fair answer? Are you asking me to speculate on
• 11:45
that question? So I'll read from the record. Then it
• 11:49
is again, sent Thursday, July eighteenth, twenty thirteen, at twelve
• 11:53
thirty nine from Jeffrey Epstein to himself. However, the email
• 11:58
reads quote, I've decided to resign my position, effective immediately
• 12:01
with BG three and Bill and Melinda Gate's foundation. I
• 12:05
have not come to this decision quickly or without great
• 12:08
deal of thought. During the past few weeks, I've been
• 12:11
caught up in a severe marital dispute between Melinda and Bill.
• 12:15
I'll stop reading there for a second, but given majority
• 12:18
Exhibit one, which we were just discussing and the fact
• 12:21
that mister Epstein and doctor Nikolch were clearly discussing a
• 12:24
marital dispute of some kind between you and Milinda. Is
• 12:28
it fair to say that this email that was intended
• 12:31
to have been sent by doctor Nikolich. Answer? I don't know.
• 12:35
It was never sent by doctor Nikolch. That's all I
• 12:38
can bring to this question. Sure I can continue reading.
• 12:42
I have the greatest respect for my friend of seven years,
• 12:45
and I wish them both well. In my role as
• 12:47
the right hand, I've been asked on multiple occasions and
• 12:50
in hindsight wrongly acquiesced into participating in things that of
• 12:54
range from the morally inappropriate to the ethically unsound, and
• 12:58
had been repeatedly asked to do other things that get
• 13:01
near and potentially over the line into the illegal. Though
• 13:06
it was kindly suggested that I make a transition to
• 13:09
a new position after my six years of service, and
• 13:12
that Bill would, in his own words, give me a
• 13:14
generous package, I feel it would be dishonest to myself
• 13:17
and my future from helping Bill to get drugs in
• 13:20
order to deal with consequences of sex with Russian girls,
• 13:24
to facilitating his illicit trysts with married women, to being
• 13:28
asked to provide adderall for bridge tournaments. I feel I
• 13:31
owe it to my friends and future colleagues to admit
• 13:34
a moral failure, to ask forgiveness, and to move on
• 13:36
with life. So again, I understand you did not receive
• 13:43
this email. So I'll just begin to discuss the facts
• 13:46
in that email. I've already asked you this. I asked
• 13:48
you if you had considered a divorce with Melinda in
• 13:51
twenty thirteen. I'll ask it a different way. Were you
• 13:55
having a marital dispute of some kind with your wife Melinda?
• 13:58
French Gates answer, Well, certainly the fact that I told
• 14:02
Milinda during this timeframe about the two affairs that was
• 14:06
very distressing to her. But at the same time, there
• 14:08
was no explicit mention of getting divorced. It may have
• 14:12
occurred to Melinda at that point, but it was not
• 14:14
a subject to discussion. Question, But you were having a
• 14:17
maritald dispute at the time. Is that fair answer? I
• 14:20
wouldn't call it a marital dispute. You could say that
• 14:23
it was a marital crisis because she became aware of
• 14:26
bad behavior on my part. Question, sure, was this dispute
• 14:31
that is referenced in this email. Or how about this
• 14:34
the discussion you had with Melinda at the time about
• 14:36
your infidelity. Were those ultimately relevant to your divorce in
• 14:40
twenty twenty one? Answer? You would have to ask her,
• 14:43
but I imagined that they were. Question how did doctor
• 14:47
nikolic know of you're a marital of your dispute with Milinda? Answer?
• 14:51
I never discussed the topic with him. I did tell
• 14:53
him she was aware of the affairs and that I
• 14:56
shared with her that there were also other affairs. Question
• 15:02
when did you tell Melinda about the affairs? Answer That
• 15:05
would have been in the spring of twenty thirteen. Question
• 15:08
and when did you tell doctor Nikolch that you told
• 15:10
Melinda about the affairs? Answer around the same time question
• 15:15
shortly thereafter? Answer right, and you know that was part
• 15:18
of my telling them that his employment was not going
• 15:20
to continue. Question. So it's possible then that doctor Nickolitch,
• 15:24
while you didn't tell him that you were that you
• 15:26
didn't say you were considering a divorce, as you said
• 15:30
you weren't. But it's possible that doctor Nickoluch read into
• 15:33
what you were telling him to believe that Melinda was
• 15:35
the reason he was being let go. And that he
• 15:38
needed to fix things with you. Is that fair? Answer? Well,
• 15:41
it's not clear to me that doctor Nikolitch ever saw
• 15:44
the emails. But you know, doctor Nickolitch may have inferred
• 15:47
from the fact that I said that I, you know,
• 15:49
discuss the affairs, he may have speculated about what was
• 15:53
doing in terms of my marriage. Question. Do you have
• 15:57
any other suggestion of how Jeffrey Epstein would know about
• 15:59
your affairs or other details in this email except through
• 16:03
doctor Nikolach Answer? I believe he found out about the
• 16:06
two affairs through doctor Nikeolch. Mister Moran, And just to
• 16:10
be clear, you asked about other details Gates, Yeah, I'm
• 16:14
not commenting on that. All right, folks, We're gonna wrap
• 16:17
up right here, and in the next episode dealing with
• 16:20
the topic, we're gonna pick up where we left off.
• 16:23
All the information that goes with this episode can be
• 16:25
  found in the description box.
