- 0:31Welcome to the Clydesdale
- 0:33media weight loss journey
- 0:34special edition.
- 0:36What the hell just happened.
- 0:39We're going to talk about
- 0:41kind of what happened over
- 0:42the last couple weeks,
- 0:45and kind of see how
- 0:49nutrition can play a role,
- 0:52and all that kind of stuff so.
- 0:56I am still pretty much under the weather.
- 0:58I was just telling Cheryl
- 1:00just to get down here to
- 1:01kind of hook everything up
- 1:03and get everything going.
- 1:05takes a lot out of me and
- 1:08this is probably the last
- 1:10show I'm going to do until
- 1:11I get some kind of relief
- 1:14or some answers or anything
- 1:16like that um until we so we
- 1:19can move forward but I want
- 1:20this to be interactive I
- 1:22want you guys in the chat
- 1:23to ask questions I'll
- 1:24answer them to the best of
- 1:25my ability um with that
- 1:29I'll turn it over to share
- 1:30and kind of lead the discussion
- 1:33Yeah.
- 1:33Well, really,
- 1:36have you recapped anything
- 1:37from what's happened in
- 1:39terms of your hospital or anything?
- 1:42I'm sure you guys didn't
- 1:43have a roundtable this week,
- 1:44but I know you had a couple
- 1:45of other podcasts.
- 1:47So why don't you just start
- 1:49with what prompted you to
- 1:51go to the hospital?
- 1:53Well,
- 1:54I think we go back to the last time
- 1:56we did a show when I went
- 1:58to my family doctor that day.
- 2:00Yep.
- 2:00That was last week, last Thursday,
- 2:01last Tuesday.
- 2:02So last Tuesday,
- 2:03I went to my family doctor.
- 2:07That is where he diagnosed
- 2:08me with a lung infection.
- 2:12But he didn't run any tests.
- 2:14He didn't.
- 2:18So through this whole thing,
- 2:19I got really pissed off at
- 2:22the way my family doctor
- 2:24has been treating me.
- 2:26And, um, when I went into his office,
- 2:29like I was in full blown asthma attack,
- 2:32could barely breathe.
- 2:34The only thing like they
- 2:35really said to me is put on
- 2:37this mask because people are,
- 2:39are scared of you.
- 2:42COVID.
- 2:43I'm dying.
- 2:44I don't know who's mask on.
- 2:45I can't breathe, but.
- 2:48And so I can't breathe.
- 2:50So put something over your mouth.
- 2:52It just was dumb.
- 2:53Um,
- 2:56But anyway, he diagnosed me with that,
- 2:59threw some prescriptions at
- 3:00me where one was a steroid,
- 3:06one was an antibiotic.
- 3:08And with that, I came home.
- 3:12We had our show.
- 3:13I had my breakdown.
- 3:16Things weren't going well.
- 3:18But then I started to feel a
- 3:19little bit better.
- 3:20The steroids or whatever did
- 3:22what they did.
- 3:24And then on that Friday,
- 3:26things started to slide and
- 3:30pretty much went off a
- 3:30cliff by Saturday morning.
- 3:33And I could barely breathe.
- 3:37And my wife's like,
- 3:39we got to go to the hospital, to the ER.
- 3:42So we walked outside.
- 3:47I tried to get in the car,
- 3:48had a full-blown panic attack,
- 3:50which I've never had in my life.
- 3:53I could not get into my car.
- 3:56I talked for weeks about
- 3:58this gas that's been forming.
- 4:01So my stomach has distended
- 4:03out like inches at this point.
- 4:09Every time I tried to crunch into the car,
- 4:11it felt like it was
- 4:12shutting off my airway.
- 4:16So it took some time to just
- 4:19kind of like relax for a second.
- 4:22We opened up the sunroof,
- 4:25opened up all the windows.
- 4:28I got back in the car.
- 4:29Thank God it was only 10 minutes.
- 4:32We got to the ER.
- 4:34And here in Ohio,
- 4:36we have ERs that are
- 4:36separate from the hospitals.
- 4:38So it'd be like an urgent
- 4:41care on steroids.
- 4:44If that makes sense.
- 4:44Like they have, they have imaging,
- 4:46they have x-ray,
- 4:47they have all that stuff.
- 4:49So we go in,
- 4:52my wife tells him he's having
- 4:53a hard time breathing.
- 4:55They gave me a wheelchair.
- 4:56They take me back within 10 minutes,
- 4:5915 tests done like that fast.
- 5:05So from my family doctor who
- 5:06sucked balls at taking care
- 5:10of me to an ER who doesn't
- 5:12even know me doing like the
- 5:14greatest care I've ever seen.
- 5:18And they hooked me up to an EKG,
- 5:21diagnosed me with the AFib immediately.
- 5:26And then started running tests,
- 5:28chest x-ray, chest CT, stomach x-ray,
- 5:32stomach CT, blood work out the wazoo.
- 5:39And that's when, like,
- 5:41just incrementally as we
- 5:43were sitting in the ER,
- 5:44more and more bad news is coming in.
- 5:48Because everything kind of led to...
- 5:54other things going wrong.
- 5:57What was the chicken and what was the egg?
- 6:00I have no idea.
- 6:01But my heart rate was 150 to
- 6:06165 beats a minute and it was irregular.
- 6:07Then I had blood sugar of 380.
- 6:08I had
- 6:21Of course,
- 6:21I had high blood pressure
- 6:23because I was just having
- 6:24an anxiety attack.
- 6:29I'm still coughing,
- 6:31spitting up this stuff that
- 6:33I've been dealing with for
- 6:34two years that my family
- 6:36doctor kept putting off.
- 6:40So, um, we go through a bunch of tests.
- 6:43They start putting me on meds.
- 6:46Um, they're monitoring my heart.
- 6:48They're trying to get it to
- 6:48go back in rhythm by medicine.
- 6:54Um, it's after hours, it's not going back.
- 6:59And like,
- 6:59we knew we were going to need to
- 7:00transfer you to a full blown hospital.
- 7:05My wife and I have to make
- 7:06the selection because we're
- 7:07kind of like in between all
- 7:09the three major hospitals
- 7:12associated with this ER.
- 7:14We decided to go to like the
- 7:16Northern small town version,
- 7:19which was God's work
- 7:21because it was amazing.
- 7:24But I didn't, they couldn't come get me.
- 7:26They couldn't get a
- 7:27transport to me till five
- 7:28o'clock in the morning.
- 7:30Oh, wow.
- 7:32So I sat in the ER by myself
- 7:35till five in the morning,
- 7:37waited for the Ambo to come,
- 7:39got put in the Ambo, uh,
- 7:41taken up to Delaware, Ohio, uh,
- 7:43to Grady Memorial hospital,
- 7:45where then I was admitted.
- 7:47And then they hooked me up
- 7:48to an EKG machine
- 7:50permanently for my stay.
- 7:53Lots of IVs, lots of needles,
- 7:56lots of pokes, way more tests.
- 8:00And I'll stop there and just
- 8:02take a pause if anybody has
- 8:04any questions.
- 8:05Well,
- 8:06I think the main thing is heart
- 8:09condition.
- 8:11How has that been?
- 8:12Did you get any feedback
- 8:13from the echo and everything?
- 8:15Is everything with your heart good?
- 8:17Yeah,
- 8:17everything is normal with my heart
- 8:19other than the beat, the rhythm.
- 8:21Okay, so nothing,
- 8:22there's been no strain there.
- 8:24The lungs are still,
- 8:26you were diagnosed with pneumonia too,
- 8:27correct?
- 8:29Yes.
- 8:30Okay, so you have lung infection,
- 8:31pneumonia.
- 8:33They have you on antibiotics?
- 8:35They did.
- 8:35Okay, and they took you off the pred?
- 8:38They took me off the pred.
- 8:40Okay, you're still on antibiotics?
- 8:42Today was my last one.
- 8:45Okay.
- 8:45I'm looking at there.
- 8:48Mostly people are just
- 8:49commenting on the fact that
- 8:51it's hard to find good doctors.
- 8:52It truly is.
- 8:54It's really hard to find doctors.
- 8:56And it's so important that
- 8:58we learn to be advocates for ourselves.
- 9:00In fact, a lot of times what I do is...
- 9:04I just had a woman come to me.
- 9:05It's like,
- 9:05it's so hard because they run
- 9:07basic lab tests.
- 9:09And if you're not sick, you're okay.
- 9:12They don't think about optimal.
- 9:13They wait until you're
- 9:14literally like you on your
- 9:16deathbed to be like, hey,
- 9:18we should probably do something.
- 9:20You know, your red flags were last year.
- 9:25Last year when the sinus
- 9:27stuff was getting that bad
- 9:27that you couldn't sleep.
- 9:29And then you had the sinus
- 9:31surgery and it still wasn't
- 9:32getting better.
- 9:34you know, and it's just like,
- 9:36and this is when I was at
- 9:37my family doctor,
- 9:39he gave me the prescriptions and said,
- 9:41Hey, if it gets worse, go to the ER.
- 9:45Like almost like, don't call me.
- 9:46Yeah.
- 9:48Just go to the ER.
- 9:49Yeah.
- 9:50It's just not cool.
- 9:51So you have a new doctor, right?
- 9:54Yeah.
- 9:54I have not met her yet.
- 9:55Okay.
- 9:57All right.
- 9:59So let's kind of just like, so, you know,
- 10:02we chatted a little bit on Wednesday.
- 10:03I wanted to check in on you.
- 10:06And since you've been home,
- 10:09obviously life is a little
- 10:10bit scary right now.
- 10:11I'm sure that like...
- 10:13what you're dealing with I
- 10:14mean you probably feel like
- 10:16oh my god scared that you
- 10:17can't breathe um obviously
- 10:20going to the gym is off the
- 10:22table so and like you just
- 10:24mentioned walking down the
- 10:25stairs is hard so how are
- 10:28you getting around at home
- 10:29like are you moving around
- 10:30at all like are you trying
- 10:31to get up and move because
- 10:31that's also good for the
- 10:32pneumonia like are you
- 10:33getting up and trying to
- 10:35sit up a little bit and move around
- 10:37So I'm doing the best that I can.
- 10:39I like,
- 10:40I'm trying to take care of myself
- 10:43and take that off my wife.
- 10:45Yeah.
- 10:45Um, where like I fixed lunch today.
- 10:48Um, I've been doing my own breakfasts,
- 10:53trying to like do that on my own,
- 10:54on my own.
- 10:55Um, but it's been,
- 10:57it's been really difficult.
- 10:59Like it takes just so much
- 11:01out of me and the doctor
- 11:02does not want my heart rate
- 11:04elevated at all.
- 11:06Yep.
- 11:07I gotcha.
- 11:08Okay.
- 11:09I know you mentioned that
- 11:10they have you on medication
- 11:13now diabetes-wise.
- 11:14Yeah,
- 11:14they have me on a lot of medicine
- 11:17right now.
- 11:18Yeah.
- 11:20So I learned through this
- 11:23endeavor that prednisone
- 11:25actually raises your blood sugar.
- 11:28And the doctor I saw in the
- 11:31ER said that your family
- 11:33doctor should have known
- 11:35that it's a risk if you were
- 11:38ever a diabetic to put
- 11:40someone on prednisone for
- 11:42extended periods of time.
- 11:43Yeah.
- 11:45Well,
- 11:45how long were you on the prednisone for?
- 11:48So a long time.
- 11:49If you count the sinus surgery in October,
- 11:52then I was on prednisone
- 11:54for that for like six weeks after that.
- 11:59Then as things didn't heal
- 12:02the right way and we were
- 12:04trying to get rid of the cough part of it,
- 12:07then my sinus doctor put me
- 12:09on more prednisone.
- 12:13Then the family doctor puts
- 12:15me on more prednisone.
- 12:19So I was on prednisone drops
- 12:22and prednisone the pill.
- 12:25Got it.
- 12:27Yeah.
- 12:27Okay.
- 12:29And elevated blood sugar, just so you know,
- 12:32also does weaken your immune system.
- 12:34So like, that's also,
- 12:35there's a direct correlation.
- 12:37That's why diabetics are
- 12:38also more prone to getting sick.
- 12:40So kind of like,
- 12:42it doesn't matter the chicken or the egg,
- 12:43you've got a bunch of shit
- 12:44going on right now.
- 12:46So the medications you asked about,
- 12:50metformin and insulin for the diabetes.
- 12:53So fast acting metformin for
- 12:57two meals a day, insulin for overnight,
- 13:03And before I left the hospital,
- 13:05I got the three 80 down to one 40.
- 13:07It's,
- 13:10and it's getting me off the prednisone.
- 13:13Yeah.
- 13:14Um,
- 13:15and so then I have not been able to
- 13:18read my sugar because they
- 13:21prescribed me a monitor and
- 13:23it's been out of stock for four days.
- 13:26That's crazy.
- 13:29So you don't even know what
- 13:29your blood sugar is at.
- 13:31With your blood sugar being that high,
- 13:34are you getting symptoms?
- 13:37So it's just hard because
- 13:39this is the worst I've felt in my life.
- 13:42So when I was a diabetic 14
- 13:44years ago and got through
- 13:45that and passed it,
- 13:47like I knew what those feelings were.
- 13:49I don't know what the
- 13:51feelings are now because I
- 13:52get heart flutters.
- 13:54I get...
- 13:55I'm out of breath.
- 13:56You'll get like headaches,
- 13:58kind of like blurred vision, um, feeling.
- 14:02I did have a little bit of blurred vision.
- 14:04I did not get to like,
- 14:07like overwhelming thirst
- 14:10that I had before.
- 14:12And they asked me about that
- 14:13in the hospital.
- 14:14Did I get that?
- 14:15And I never had did, um, uh,
- 14:19So the only,
- 14:19the only real diabetic kind of
- 14:22like key was the,
- 14:24a little bit of blurred vision.
- 14:25Okay.
- 14:27And how long you've been off
- 14:29the prednisone for is only
- 14:31for like a week, right?
- 14:33Uh, Saturday.
- 14:34Okay.
- 14:35Yeah.
- 14:36Um, it should start to come down.
- 14:39I would think pretty quickly
- 14:41once you're off of that.
- 14:43So hopefully we'll be able
- 14:45to get you back to regulated.
- 14:46That's why I'm surprised.
- 14:48My only surprise is that
- 14:50they did put you on the
- 14:52insulin and the metformin
- 14:54if it was a pred-related
- 14:56thing because- So this is
- 14:58their reasoning.
- 14:59They needed it down fast
- 15:01because the biggest risk
- 15:03with a fib is a stroke.
- 15:05Right.
- 15:06And diabetes contributes to
- 15:08the possibilities of a stroke.
- 15:10Yeah.
- 15:11Anything that was related to, to pass,
- 15:14like my,
- 15:15my blood pressure was one 27 over
- 15:1770 and they have me on a
- 15:18blood pressure pill just to get it,
- 15:22keep it and make sure it's
- 15:23down because they have to
- 15:25remove the risk of stroke.
- 15:27Yep.
- 15:28Yeah.
- 15:29Okay.
- 15:30All right.
- 15:31So questions.
- 15:33Kenneth has a question.
- 15:34What is metformin?
- 15:35I've heard my mom talk about it,
- 15:37but never heard.
- 15:37It is a drug for diabetes,
- 15:39but primarily it does help
- 15:41regulate blood sugar.
- 15:43And there are two forms.
- 15:45There's a fast acting and a slow acting.
- 15:47Yeah.
- 15:49But it's a pill.
- 15:51I was on it back in 2010.
- 15:52It's awful.
- 15:53Yeah.
- 15:57Um, so right now,
- 16:00obviously our main concern
- 16:01is getting the lungs back
- 16:03up and running on a scale of one to 10.
- 16:06Do you feel like there's any
- 16:07improvement yet?
- 16:10From, from Saturday?
- 16:12Yes.
- 16:12Okay, good.
- 16:13It's probably going to be a
- 16:14couple more weeks.
- 16:15I would think before you're
- 16:16like back to a hundred percent.
- 16:19Um,
- 16:19I would put it at a Saturday was like a
- 16:22two.
- 16:23Yeah.
- 16:24I'd be maybe three and a half, four.
- 16:26So my gut's telling me that
- 16:27you've had this lung
- 16:28infection for quite a while
- 16:31and it's just been dormant.
- 16:32Like you haven't had like
- 16:34symptoms bad enough.
- 16:35And that's kind of why you
- 16:36haven't been feeling great.
- 16:38But coupled with that,
- 16:40your blood sugar may have
- 16:41been elevated for a long
- 16:42time if you've been on the
- 16:43pred for a while.
- 16:45And that could also have
- 16:46been contributing to you
- 16:47being more susceptible to being sick.
- 16:49So it's like, again,
- 16:51it's kind of these two
- 16:52things that we have to really look at.
- 16:54And what I want to really
- 16:55focus on is getting the
- 16:57blood sugar under control
- 16:59while you're healing and
- 17:01getting you feeling better.
- 17:03You know, because nutritionally,
- 17:05I think that there are some
- 17:06things that we can do to
- 17:07strengthen your immune system and,
- 17:10you know,
- 17:11obviously get the blood sugar
- 17:12down that we spoke a little
- 17:14bit about on Wednesday and, you know,
- 17:17help get you feeling better quicker.
- 17:20I don't know that you have
- 17:22food related issues with
- 17:24what's going on with your lungs.
- 17:25Like there are some people where I'm like,
- 17:26hey,
- 17:27you might have these food
- 17:28sensitivities with like
- 17:29dairy and it's causing you
- 17:31more sinus stuff.
- 17:32The reason I don't think
- 17:33that is because typically
- 17:35people that have things
- 17:36like that also experience
- 17:39like skin related issues.
- 17:42Um, like,
- 17:42like eczema or like acne or other
- 17:46things like that is usually
- 17:48when there's like a dairy
- 17:49issue or severe gut issues with dairy.
- 17:53Like you have like things like that.
- 17:55I don't think you have any of that.
- 17:57I think this is truly you
- 17:59having a weakened immune
- 18:00system and your body's responding and
- 18:03It could have been a little
- 18:04bit of a combination of two.
- 18:06But the main thing is our last episode,
- 18:08you got pretty vulnerable with us.
- 18:10And I think that the real question is,
- 18:13is are you ready to like
- 18:15put yourself first a little
- 18:16bit in your life?
- 18:20I am.
- 18:20Yeah.
- 18:21Did you guys have that talk?
- 18:24We did.
- 18:24We've yeah.
- 18:25My wife and I have.
- 18:26Yeah.
- 18:28It's hard because my
- 18:30sister's in surgery right now.
- 18:33Like life doesn't stop because I'm sick.
- 18:36She's having cancer removed as we speak.
- 18:39Yeah.
- 18:40So that is, that's going on right now.
- 18:45We did get,
- 18:45we did get good news on
- 18:46mother-in-law that they're
- 18:48going to be able to do some
- 18:49stuff with medication as
- 18:51opposed to chemo.
- 18:54So that's good.
- 18:56But like that, that stuff keeps going on,
- 18:58but
- 18:59What's happened to this whole thing is one,
- 19:02I think it was a,
- 19:05wake up call for not just for me,
- 19:07but for my wife to see what
- 19:10this did to me.
- 19:12And so like she went out
- 19:14today and got fresh vegetables,
- 19:16some fresh fruit, um, at lunch,
- 19:19we had a nice wrap for,
- 19:21for lunch together.
- 19:23Um, and it was really good.
- 19:26Um,
- 19:27and so she's ready to buy in to all
- 19:30this now too.
- 19:30Okay.
- 19:33And,
- 19:34I'm to the I'm pissed off.
- 19:36Like and,
- 19:38and maybe that's what I've needed
- 19:39a long time is that chip on
- 19:42my shoulder to like, now,
- 19:46all I want to do all my
- 19:48only goal in my head is I
- 19:51want to get rid of all of
- 19:52these prescriptions.
- 19:55I want to check them off the box,
- 19:57throw them in the trash and move on.
- 19:59100% agree.
- 20:04I think that nutrition is
- 20:08something we need to address.
- 20:10I think you're doing a
- 20:11pretty good job this week.
- 20:13So I think that going forward,
- 20:16there's a couple of things
- 20:17that I really want to
- 20:17change about our check-ins
- 20:19because I think that you've
- 20:22kind of been deflecting
- 20:23really going all in on nutrition.
- 20:26taking care of yourself.
- 20:28And so going forward before
- 20:30every one of our calls,
- 20:32I want that check-in form filled out.
- 20:35I want to be able to take a
- 20:36look at that beforehand,
- 20:38and I want to pull it up on
- 20:39our lives and be able to say, hey,
- 20:41this is all the things that
- 20:42you're reporting this week.
- 20:44I want to pull up your food diary.
- 20:46I don't want to see any more blank spots.
- 20:49I'm also going to take some
- 20:52responsibility for giving
- 20:54you more freedom in not
- 20:58taking control of some of that stuff.
- 21:01because I trust you,
- 21:02but I want to be able to be like, Hey,
- 21:04like, no, I want to see fiber here.
- 21:06I want to see these numbers here.
- 21:08And I know that there was a
- 21:09point that we talked about
- 21:10stuff and you were like,
- 21:10it's a little too overwhelming for me.
- 21:12I just want to focus on the protein.
- 21:14I just want to, and we backed off,
- 21:16but I think that you need
- 21:18to get it all under, under control.
- 21:21It's time to like,
- 21:22take this seriously because
- 21:24I don't want to see you
- 21:25sick again because
- 21:27And I want to make sure that
- 21:28you are making the right
- 21:29kind of progress.
- 21:30And right now, we can't make gym progress.
- 21:33That's okay.
- 21:34We can get you healthy
- 21:36enough to get back to the gym.
- 21:38And when you're cleared to
- 21:39go back to the gym,
- 21:40we'll talk about that then.
- 21:42But that's the main thing.
- 21:46Agreed.
- 21:48Um,
- 21:48so a couple of things I mentioned to
- 21:51you on the call was really
- 21:55wanting more fibrous carbs
- 21:58and you're adding in more
- 21:59fresh fruits and vegetables with,
- 22:00I love what I love,
- 22:02but here's what I just want
- 22:03to kind of show you.
- 22:04That's, and I'll pull it up.
- 22:05Let me just, cause I want to be fully, Hey,
- 22:08we're going to get rid of,
- 22:09we're going to pull this
- 22:10share screen up here, share screen.
- 22:15Do I want to share the whole
- 22:16entire screen?
- 22:17All right, guys,
- 22:18just don't judge the 5
- 22:19million tabs I have open because I have,
- 22:21you know,
- 22:22ADHD and I have to have 5
- 22:24million things open at all time.
- 22:26Okay, so this is really my concern.
- 22:28You see this number 12 here under fiber?
- 22:31Okay, this is typical for you.
- 22:35This day was a good day, 50 that day.
- 22:38Today, you've only logged one meal, okay?
- 22:40But you tend to be very low
- 22:44on fiber.
- 22:45And when you're eating low calories,
- 22:48fiber is typically low
- 22:50because when you're eating low carbs,
- 22:52but when you're getting in
- 22:54enough carbohydrates,
- 22:56you want to make sure that
- 22:58that fiber count is up.
- 22:59So if you're eating,
- 23:01let's call it 167 carbs,
- 23:04but you're only getting 14 grams of fiber.
- 23:06We want to really increase that.
- 23:08And so what I really want
- 23:09you focusing on right now
- 23:11is that whenever you're
- 23:12picking up any grain products,
- 23:14you're looking for complex carbohydrates.
- 23:16You're looking for high fiber carbs,
- 23:18no white products,
- 23:19because that's going to get more.
- 23:22It's going to bring more
- 23:23good gut bacteria into the gut,
- 23:25which can help with the immune system.
- 23:27It's going to help with digestion.
- 23:29It's going to help with everything.
- 23:30It's going to help with your blood sugar.
- 23:31So we've really got to get
- 23:33the fibrous carbs in and
- 23:35the fruits and vegetables
- 23:36are also a part of it as well.
- 23:38Um, you know,
- 23:39right now I know that you're
- 23:40not moving a whole bunch.
- 23:43So, you know,
- 23:44calorically we might end up
- 23:45changing things.
- 23:47Uh,
- 23:47so I do want you getting back to
- 23:48weighing in just so I can
- 23:50see what's going on with your weight.
- 23:52You know, this way we can kind of say,
- 23:53all right, here's where you're at.
- 23:55Calorically,
- 23:56we might have to change some
- 23:56things a little bit because
- 23:58it's also when it comes to blood sugar,
- 24:00it's not just carbohydrates,
- 24:01it's calories.
- 24:03Uh,
- 24:03and I want to talk about that for
- 24:04people to understand, but yeah,
- 24:07getting your calories where
- 24:08they need to be for you to
- 24:09obviously still see some,
- 24:11some results is also important.
- 24:13Um, I like that you're hydrating.
- 24:15So making sure that you're
- 24:16getting some electrolytes
- 24:17in throughout your day, uh,
- 24:19if you're getting in fruits
- 24:19and vegetables, that's going to be good,
- 24:21but that's going to be your
- 24:22main focus right now is
- 24:23really getting the diet dialed in.
- 24:26Um, you know, still, we still be flexible.
- 24:28You still go out for date night.
- 24:29You still do those things,
- 24:30but the majority of your food,
- 24:32we really got to be
- 24:32focusing on that stuff.
- 24:36And that's what we're trying to do.
- 24:38From the time we got back to the hospital,
- 24:39we're cycling through the
- 24:41grains we had to the grains
- 24:43we're getting and doing all
- 24:46that kind of stuff.
- 24:48We're getting a winter
- 24:49weather emergency tonight
- 24:52due to four inches of snow.
- 24:53So we got all that stuff
- 24:54today to prep for the
- 24:56weekend because we're
- 24:57probably going to be snowed
- 24:58in a little bit.
- 25:01And...
- 25:03And like,
- 25:03I really made a conscious effort
- 25:05yesterday to get like an apple in,
- 25:07to get some stuff,
- 25:09to get some good fiber in.
- 25:11Today I had, um,
- 25:15the Jimmy Dean's light
- 25:17sandwich because it was a
- 25:18whole wheat muffin.
- 25:20Um, and I had some oatmeal today, um,
- 25:23to try to up that.
- 25:25We had a wrap for lunch with
- 25:27vegetables throughout it.
- 25:29So I'm really trying.
- 25:31Yeah.
- 25:31You didn't log your lunch yet.
- 25:33So I don't know what that
- 25:35was looking like.
- 25:36So, but I know that your breakfast so far,
- 25:40let me just, your breakfast was,
- 25:41it's weird because it's showing up on.
- 25:49Yeah.
- 25:49Your breakfast had five grams of fiber.
- 25:53So still not a whole bunch,
- 25:54but it's still better than nothing.
- 25:57You know,
- 25:57and I think if you're depending
- 25:59on what kind of wrap you had for lunch,
- 26:01we're going to slowly start
- 26:02to work on that.
- 26:02You know,
- 26:03like that's the stuff that you
- 26:04can kind of work on.
- 26:06So like,
- 26:07does oatmeal add any fiber at all?
- 26:09Yeah.
- 26:09Oatmeal's got good fiber in it.
- 26:11Yep.
- 26:12Look at the package.
- 26:13I,
- 26:13and I'll send you my high fiber food
- 26:15list again, but, um,
- 26:18there's also like different brands too,
- 26:21but like, that's just,
- 26:21you want to look for all of those, um,
- 26:24fiber sources.
- 26:25Jeff asked about your protein source.
- 26:27Yes.
- 26:27Um,
- 26:28he had the Jimmy Dean breakfast sandwich.
- 26:30It wasn't a whole bunch of protein,
- 26:31but it was still a
- 26:33relatively balanced meal.
- 26:34He had, you know,
- 26:3522 grams of protein this morning.
- 26:37So you're probably going to
- 26:38be playing a little bit of
- 26:39catch up on protein.
- 26:41So, but yeah.
- 26:44So I think that the main
- 26:45thing is getting you back
- 26:47to some structure,
- 26:49keeping your stress levels down.
- 26:51So stress also raises your blood sugar,
- 26:53by the way, people.
- 26:55So people that focus on diet
- 26:56stress and cortisol levels.
- 26:59Jack up your blood sugar as well.
- 27:00So we want to make sure
- 27:01we're doing that movement wise.
- 27:04I think that for you this week,
- 27:06because you really can't work out,
- 27:08I think that, well,
- 27:09you can't get your heart rate up.
- 27:11I think that every time you
- 27:12eat also after you eat,
- 27:14like either doing like a 10 minute,
- 27:16like very easy,
- 27:17just walk it around your house.
- 27:19You could even pedal easy on
- 27:20your bike at a walking pace.
- 27:22Like you can do that as well.
- 27:24You know,
- 27:24like just something to get some
- 27:26blood flow into your body.
- 27:28Um,
- 27:30and then I think the other thing is
- 27:31mobility.
- 27:33You don't want to get tight hips and tight,
- 27:35all these things.
- 27:36So even though you can't
- 27:36work out right now,
- 27:38those are things that you can be doing.
- 27:40So I think that you can kind of,
- 27:42as you're starting to feel a bit better,
- 27:44just making sure that
- 27:45you're stretching a little bit,
- 27:47not getting too tight,
- 27:48sitting all day and all
- 27:50that kinds of stuff.
- 27:52Yeah.
- 27:52The hardest part right now is
- 27:56that gas pushing on my
- 27:57stomach and it's pushing on
- 27:59my excess skin.
- 28:01It's like a weird dynamic I have going on.
- 28:05And every time I stand up,
- 28:07like it is burp city, um,
- 28:11to just kind of be, get comfortable.
- 28:13And then, so yeah, the mobility,
- 28:18I need to try that and just
- 28:20see if it'll help.
- 28:21What are they saying that
- 28:22the burping is just from the, uh,
- 28:24the pressure and the, from the lungs?
- 28:28Uh, I were,
- 28:29there's a scope ordered already
- 28:31for my esophagus and stomach.
- 28:35Uh, we, I just haven't had it yet.
- 28:38Okay.
- 28:40Um, let me just take a look at something.
- 28:44Is the burping and stuff
- 28:45worse at certain times of the day?
- 28:47No.
- 28:51Just all throughout the day.
- 28:52Yep.
- 28:56Taking a look at things.
- 28:58How much water are you drinking?
- 28:59We are, we're transparent on the show.
- 29:02Yeah.
- 29:02If I go to the bathroom and
- 29:03have a bowel movement, it's better.
- 29:05Okay.
- 29:07And it's a relief for a few hours.
- 29:13All right.
- 29:14How much water are you drinking a day?
- 29:17Quite a bit.
- 29:19Like pretty much stop drinking.
- 29:22Anything but.
- 29:25But it doesn't matter.
- 29:26You're drinking hydrating.
- 29:27You're drinking at least 100
- 29:27ounces of fluid.
- 29:29Oh, yeah.
- 29:30Okay.
- 29:32All right.
- 29:33Let's give it a couple of days and seeing.
- 29:35I'm hoping that maybe with
- 29:36the lung infection getting better,
- 29:38but I'm just wondering if
- 29:39there's not something going
- 29:40on with your stomach.
- 29:42Are you still taking any supplements?
- 29:44No,
- 29:45I went off those with all the
- 29:46prescriptions just till I
- 29:48can get regulated.
- 29:49Yeah.
- 29:50Yeah.
- 29:52Cause I am, I'm, I am a little bit,
- 29:54the burping stuff has got
- 29:55me a little puzzled because your food,
- 29:57nothing that what you're
- 29:58eating is like really like
- 29:59sticking out to me is like,
- 30:00that's what's causing it.
- 30:01That's why I was wondering
- 30:03if maybe it's a reaction
- 30:05from what's going on with the lung.
- 30:06Cause it kind of,
- 30:07they kind of went hand in
- 30:08hand that that started to
- 30:09get bad when you started to get sick.
- 30:12So I'm just wondering if it
- 30:13might just be from that, you know, the,
- 30:16the lung infection.
- 30:19So what I have outstanding
- 30:20is I have a scope on my
- 30:23throat and stomach coming.
- 30:26I have cardiology on Monday, um, to talk,
- 30:32to have another EKG and to
- 30:35see what the next steps are
- 30:36for the heart and then new
- 30:39family doctor next Friday.
- 30:41Okay.
- 30:43And I know you mentioned
- 30:44full transparency.
- 30:45Are you going to the
- 30:45bathroom more than normal?
- 30:48No.
- 30:48Okay.
- 30:51Less than normal.
- 30:52Less than normal.
- 30:53Okay.
- 30:55Let's really try and push the fiber up.
- 30:57Let's see if it doesn't help a little bit.
- 30:59The other thing, you know what?
- 31:02Actually.
- 31:03I do have a fiber supplement.
- 31:05No,
- 31:06I don't want you to be a fiber
- 31:07supplement.
- 31:08No.
- 31:09You know what I want you to
- 31:10do this week for the gut?
- 31:13Let's go ahead and take down
- 31:15the fat intake.
- 31:17So you've been pretty high on fat.
- 31:21Uh,
- 31:21I want you to utilize in the numbers
- 31:23that I have in trainer eyes,
- 31:25one 85 protein, one 85 carbs and 65 fat.
- 31:29I don't want you going over
- 31:3070 fat this week.
- 31:31And I want to see if that
- 31:32helps with the gut.
- 31:36Okay.
- 31:37So, uh,
- 31:38cause sometimes you might be having
- 31:40a gall related issue,
- 31:41a gallbladder related issue.
- 31:44And let's just see if
- 31:46there's not something going on with that.
- 31:47So let's lower the fat intake this week,
- 31:51like starting today.
- 31:52They did mention that at
- 31:56some point during the
- 31:57weekend or when I was in
- 31:59the hospital about my gallbladder.
- 32:00Well, see,
- 32:01maybe I should just become a physician.
- 32:02I mean...
- 32:06go back to school and be a
- 32:07doctor uh no let's let's
- 32:10take the fat intake down
- 32:11because your fat intake has
- 32:13been a little bit high
- 32:14let's try and get it to
- 32:15around like 60 to 70 don't
- 32:17go over 70 and see if it
- 32:19doesn't help with the with
- 32:20the gut stuff uh so jay
- 32:23birch asks are you gulping
- 32:26air in an effort to breathe.
- 32:28I'm not, thank goodness.
- 32:31Um, thank goodness.
- 32:32The, the sinuses have cleared.
- 32:35Like I can breathe freely through my nose.
- 32:38It is much easier to breathe
- 32:39through my nose now than it is my mouth.
- 32:42That's good.
- 32:44It gets you doing some nasal
- 32:45breathing exercises when, uh,
- 32:48you get back in the gym.
- 32:50So Carolyn giving you props.
- 32:52Yeah.
- 32:54I could be a doctor, Dr. Cheryl, Dr. Naso.
- 32:57That sounds like a scary
- 33:00movie doctor's name, like, you know,
- 33:02like Dr. Giggles, Dr. Naso.
- 33:05But, but yeah, no,
- 33:07I think that let's lower your,
- 33:08let's lower your fat intake
- 33:10and up the fiber and obviously protein.
- 33:12How is your sleep?
- 33:16When I sleep, it's,
- 33:17it's deeper now than it's been in years.
- 33:21Um, but then I'll like wake up,
- 33:24have to clear my throat, do some stuff.
- 33:28And then my mind is playing
- 33:30awful tricks on me.
- 33:32Um, and I get some anxiety,
- 33:34which I have never had.
- 33:37So, um, like last night, this is a,
- 33:40a great example of how my nights go.
- 33:42Went to bed at 10, woke up at two 30.
- 33:48had to clear my throat, had to pee,
- 33:50do that kind of stuff.
- 33:51I come to go back into,
- 33:53to bed and then I can hear
- 33:57every little wheeze in my,
- 33:58in my throat and it starts
- 34:01freaking me out.
- 34:02And then I,
- 34:03I get to a point where I feel
- 34:06like I can't breathe.
- 34:07And so I get up and then I
- 34:09go downstairs and I sleep sitting up.
- 34:14Yeah.
- 34:14When do you go back to work?
- 34:16I went back today.
- 34:18Okay.
- 34:18How'd that go?
- 34:20Okay.
- 34:21It's a, it's a holiday weekend for us.
- 34:24So there were,
- 34:26there was nobody in the office.
- 34:28It was like the perfect day to go back.
- 34:30Presidency weekend, right?
- 34:31Yep.
- 34:32Okay.
- 34:39Uh, I've never tried a CPAP machine.
- 34:42I've never been diagnosed
- 34:43with sleep apnea.
- 34:46Um, but it has been mentioned this week.
- 34:49And so I,
- 34:50when I get to my new family doctor,
- 34:52that might be something
- 34:53that is ordered a sleep test.
- 34:56All right.
- 34:57Um, yeah, but see,
- 35:00you don't report like
- 35:00waking up feeling tired or groggy.
- 35:03You always seem to sleep well.
- 35:07So, um,
- 35:09I don't know.
- 35:10You know what I'm saying?
- 35:11Like you've never really been like, Oh,
- 35:12my sleep sucks.
- 35:14But I will tell you this.
- 35:17I'm having this weird side
- 35:19effect where when I close my, my eyes,
- 35:24I like,
- 35:25I get these visions of what I
- 35:27think my surroundings should be.
- 35:29And I can like see it brushed out.
- 35:34And it is the weirdest thing ever.
- 35:36Never had that happen before.
- 35:39Not on a psychedelic.
- 35:40I know WAD Zombies coming in with that.
- 35:42And then what it does is it
- 35:45makes me nod off because I
- 35:47want to stay to see the
- 35:48painting finished.
- 35:50That's crazy.
- 35:51You're going crazy, Scott.
- 35:52I'm just kidding.
- 35:54And what's funny is I've had
- 35:55a lot of people from around
- 35:57the world DM me that they
- 35:59have the same thing I have.
- 36:02And they all talk about that
- 36:04until it's fixed, I will not off.
- 36:07It is just, you're so tired.
- 36:10It just, but I don't, I don't,
- 36:14I'm afraid to ask them,
- 36:15did you have visions of
- 36:17things before you nodded off?
- 36:19Were you seeing things?
- 36:20Were you like going crazy?
- 36:21No.
- 36:22No, I feel like,
- 36:25I feel like this was a
- 36:26little bit of the wake up
- 36:26call you needed.
- 36:27So I feel like hopefully
- 36:29we'll be able to get you in the clear.
- 36:32When is your first doctor's
- 36:33visit with your new doctor?
- 36:36Next Friday.
- 36:37Okay.
- 36:37So we have about a week.
- 36:39Yeah.
- 36:41Hopefully,
- 36:41hopefully by then you'll be
- 36:43feeling a little bit better.
- 36:44And then again,
- 36:45the EKG cardiology is Monday.
- 36:48Okay.
- 36:49Well,
- 36:49hopefully I would ask the
- 36:51cardiologist just like,
- 36:53Are you cleared for any movement yet?
- 36:55You know, how, how mentally, mentally,
- 36:57how are you feeling right now?
- 37:00For me to,
- 37:01to even think about doing any
- 37:03kind of major movement.
- 37:05I don't even know how I would do it.
- 37:07Yeah.
- 37:08Like the way I feel right now.
- 37:11I'm not talking about major movement.
- 37:13I'm talking about walking.
- 37:14I'm talking about.
- 37:16That's what I'm talking about.
- 37:18That's what I'm saying.
- 37:19Like walking out to the,
- 37:21get the mail about wrecks me.
- 37:24Agreed.
- 37:24I'm sure it does.
- 37:25But what I want to make sure
- 37:26of is that when you're cleared for it,
- 37:29that you're doing it
- 37:30because it's not going to
- 37:32feel good when you first
- 37:33start doing it again.
- 37:34And I get it.
- 37:35You don't want to do it
- 37:36before the doctor says to you,
- 37:38but you don't want to be
- 37:40one of those people that's like, oh,
- 37:41it's going to really suck.
- 37:42It's going to really suck
- 37:44for the first couple of days.
- 37:45We just want to make sure
- 37:46you're cleared for it first.
- 37:51Do I wear a smartwatch?
- 37:54So yes, I have one.
- 37:56But I lost the charger at Legends.
- 38:03So I need to order a new charger.
- 38:04Don't you have a loop strap?
- 38:06No.
- 38:07You got rid of it?
- 38:09Long time ago.
- 38:11Well, that would track your sleep too.
- 38:13I actually have a watch.
- 38:17So you just want to wear
- 38:18your watch instead.
- 38:20Yeah, it tracks sleep.
- 38:22It does everything the Whoop did,
- 38:25and I didn't have to pay monthly.
- 38:27I don't think my Apple Watch
- 38:28tracks my sleep as good as
- 38:30my Whoop strap does.
- 38:31I don't have an Apple Watch.
- 38:33What kind of watch did you have?
- 38:35It's like a GPS.
- 38:37It's called Asunto.
- 38:39Okay.
- 38:41Yeah,
- 38:41I feel like my Apple Watch tells me
- 38:43that I sleep like a champ,
- 38:44but my Whoop tells me when
- 38:46I sleep like shit,
- 38:46and my Whoop is usually right.
- 38:49If I can feel the difference.
- 38:51So, yeah.
- 38:55Yeah, I feel like.
- 38:58Yeah, it's just like a Garmin,
- 39:00but it's this brand.
- 39:03Okay.
- 39:06Yeah.
- 39:07I don't watch nothing
- 39:08tracking anything I do.
- 39:09I don't watch nothing tracking anything.
- 39:12Apple Watch can tell the time at least.
- 39:13That's pretty much all I use
- 39:14my Apple Watch for.
- 39:15That and my steps.
- 39:18I really don't even use it
- 39:19for anything else.
- 39:20It's just kind of a... You know,
- 39:22the reason I got it was
- 39:24when I first got my Apple Watch,
- 39:26I was looking for... I had a Garmin.
- 39:27And the reason I didn't get
- 39:28another Garmin was because
- 39:29the battery kept dying so quickly.
- 39:32It was like my third one and
- 39:34it would last for like a year.
- 39:35And then all of a sudden,
- 39:36the Garmin battery would
- 39:37start dying like half a day.
- 39:39So when I was getting a new watch,
- 39:41the reason I got the Apple watch,
- 39:42I was like, oh, cool.
- 39:43Like I can use this for my music.
- 39:46I don't have to use my phone.
- 39:48So like when I go on a run,
- 39:49I don't have to use it.
- 39:51But they get you because you
- 39:52only can do that if you buy
- 39:53the freaking data plan.
- 39:55And I'm like,
- 39:56I'm not paying an extra 15
- 39:57bucks a month for a data
- 39:59plan for my phone, for my watch.
- 40:01Come on, really?
- 40:02So I didn't ever get it.
- 40:04Never.
- 40:05So I had an Apple Watch
- 40:08years ago when I traveled
- 40:09the state for my job.
- 40:11And I did it because so I
- 40:12could see a text message,
- 40:14see if it was important or
- 40:15not without pulling my phone out.
- 40:18But then I realized like,
- 40:23was becoming rude like I'd
- 40:25be talking to somebody and
- 40:27look down at my watch
- 40:29rather than and pay
- 40:31attention to the watch
- 40:31rather than the person I'm
- 40:32talking to yeah and so I
- 40:34was like this is dumb and I
- 40:36just got rid of it I don't
- 40:37even look at my text
- 40:38messages on my watch like
- 40:39ever the only time I really
- 40:41did was when I was at
- 40:42wadapalooza because my
- 40:44freaking phone was dying
- 40:46and I'm like stop opening
- 40:47your phone it's just making
- 40:48it worse and that's when I
- 40:50was using my watch more than anything
- 40:53so kenneth what happened was
- 40:56as I was in the hospital
- 40:57and the care was so good I
- 40:59cannot say enough about the
- 41:02staff at this hospital in
- 41:04delaware it was awesome I
- 41:07said to them I don't trust
- 41:08my doctor anymore I don't
- 41:10want my stuff sent to him
- 41:12but I don't know what to do
- 41:13because I don't know how to
- 41:14find a new one while I'm
- 41:15laid up in bed so they set
- 41:18me up with a counselor at the hospital
- 41:21they got me a new doctor and
- 41:24I am meeting with her next
- 41:25Friday for the first time.
- 41:27So I will have a brand new
- 41:29family practitioner, um, next Friday.
- 41:33Good stuff.
- 41:38And we'll be on again for Tuesday, right?
- 41:39You want to do it again Tuesday?
- 41:41Again,
- 41:42I think this is my last show until I
- 41:45can get more confident
- 41:47going up and down the stairs.
- 41:52So we're not doing a show next Tuesday.
- 41:55Well, we may,
- 41:57if I feel better after the cardiologist.
- 41:59Okay.
- 42:00Um, regardless,
- 42:02I want to make sure we
- 42:03check in somehow with everybody.
- 42:06So if it's me,
- 42:08then I'll do it just so that
- 42:09they can kind of see your
- 42:11check-in what you've
- 42:12reported and that you're
- 42:14being honest with
- 42:15everything and that you're
- 42:16taking care of yourself.
- 42:19Cause I want that for you.
- 42:22I have not rescheduled any
- 42:24of my shows until I start feeling better.
- 42:28Okay.
- 42:29Well, regardless,
- 42:30I'll make sure there's an
- 42:31update on Tuesday,
- 42:32even if it's me doing a
- 42:33solo something with your check-in.
- 42:36But we'll do something.
- 42:38Or if we have to wait until
- 42:39next Friday after your
- 42:41doctor's appointment that day,
- 42:43if that would be a better day, you think.
- 42:45But let's make sure we keep
- 42:46everybody updated in the loop.
- 42:48Okay.
- 42:50Alrighty.
- 42:50Sounds good.
- 42:52And you like my new Chicago bears?
- 42:55I'm looking at that.
- 42:56I'm looking at your hat.
- 42:57I'm like,
- 42:58he's just all sports sports down today.
- 43:01My wife Valentine's gift.
- 43:03Nice.
- 43:04Nice.
- 43:05Awesome.
- 43:06I think I'm going to go over to,
- 43:07there's a little Italian
- 43:08festival here today.
- 43:09I might go over and take a
- 43:11look over there.
- 43:12All the Italian stuff's going on.
- 43:14You have fun in that Florida weather.
- 43:16It's very nice here today.
- 43:18It's beautiful out.
- 43:19I'm not even going to lie.
- 43:20I was outside a little while
- 43:21ago and I'm like, oh,
- 43:22it's a perfect day to be outside.
- 43:24Yeah.
- 43:26I'll be in my snow globe in Ohio.
- 43:29In your snow dungeon, in your igloo.
- 43:31All right, guys.
- 43:35Well,
- 43:35if you have any questions for what's
- 43:37going on or
- 43:39Anything that we talked about today,
- 43:41make sure to DM Cheryl or myself.
- 43:45I will keep you up to date
- 43:46as much as possible.
- 43:47And I want to thank,
- 43:50from the bottom of my heart,
- 43:52every single one of you
- 43:53that has reached out to me through DM,
- 43:56through comments, through text.
- 43:59It's overwhelming,
- 44:02the outpouring of love that
- 44:03I felt and received during this week.
- 44:08There's times where you
- 44:09wonder like if you're
- 44:10making an impact with
- 44:12anything that you do.
- 44:14Like I got a freaking card
- 44:15from CrossFit wishing me well.
- 44:19And that they're in my corner.
- 44:22I could not believe it.
- 44:23Like that just blew me away.
- 44:26Um,
- 44:26but the people that have gone through
- 44:28this,
- 44:28that are sharing their stories with
- 44:30me are helping so much.
- 44:33Um, and what, what to expect, uh,
- 44:35what's going on.
- 44:36The prayers that everybody's
- 44:38sending me are awesome.
- 44:40Um, I love you all.
- 44:42Um,
- 44:42I love this community and I can't wait
- 44:45to be back.
- 44:47stronger and better than
- 44:48ever to hang out with you
- 44:51guys for a long time going
- 44:53forward as I get healthy.
- 44:55So with that, thank you a bunch.
- 44:58Love you all.
- 44:59And we will see you next
- 45:00time on the Clydesdale
- 45:03media weight loss journey.
