- 0:00Speaker 1: It's Big ninety eight point seven and we're piking Amanda
- 0:02Speaker 1: in the morning.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Well, good morning, happy Monday. It's gonna be nice today.
- 0:06Speaker 3: Sunshine High is seventy.
- 0:07Speaker 1: Well, it is October. And of course if you've listened
- 0:10Speaker 1: to this radio station for any amount of years, you
- 0:12Speaker 1: know that we do a little something called bras on
- 0:15Speaker 1: Big ninety eight point seven.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks for our friends over at DS Beverages and
- 0:19Speaker 2: Corwin Auto Group. We give back every single year and
- 0:22Speaker 2: there are a lot of different ways you can help.
- 0:24Speaker 2: One of course is dropping off a bra over to
- 0:28Speaker 2: Corwin Toyota. They're going to donate ten dollars for every
- 0:31Speaker 2: bra up to twenty thousand dollars, which is incredible.
- 0:34Speaker 1: And it can be in any condition. It's not like
- 0:37Speaker 1: turn it in an iPhone where it's got it's just
- 0:39Speaker 1: any bra. So please ten bucks for any bra. That's
- 0:42Speaker 1: a pretty good deal.
- 0:42Speaker 3: Absolutely not to mention if you're out and about.
- 0:45Speaker 2: I was over at Blarney Stone on Friday and they
- 0:47Speaker 2: had the pink mic Ultra on tap. A lot of
- 0:50Speaker 2: participating locations are doing that and of course they're giving
- 0:53Speaker 2: back for not only the tap beers, but if you
- 0:55Speaker 2: go to your local bottle shops that they're also going
- 0:57Speaker 2: to be giving some money from the cases from DSA
- 1:00Speaker 2: Beveragis and we've teamed up them with them for so
- 1:02Speaker 2: many years.
- 1:02Speaker 1: And all the money will be donated to a Centia
- 1:04Speaker 1: Health's Cancer Center. And you can get all the information
- 1:07Speaker 1: at Big nine eighty seven dot com. But it is Monday,
- 1:09Speaker 1: and all month long we're doing something called Mamma Graham
- 1:11Speaker 1: Monday where women will be coming in to share their story.
- 1:14Speaker 1: And here with this now is Lynn. Good morning, Lynn,
- 1:17Speaker 1: Good morning.
- 1:18Speaker 2: We appreciate you coming in and more importantly, we appreciate
- 1:21Speaker 2: you sharing your story.
- 1:23Speaker 3: Let's just get right to it.
- 1:24Speaker 2: You ended up one day in the shower finding in
- 1:27Speaker 2: something that is every woman's worst nightmare.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Yep, that's exactly what happened. I was in the shower.
- 1:31Speaker 4: It was a Tuesday morning. I'll never forget it. I
- 1:34Speaker 4: just in the shower, did my little swipe with my
- 1:37Speaker 4: washcloth and said, huh, that wasn't there before. I don't
- 1:41Speaker 4: remember that.
- 1:42Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:42Speaker 2: And good for you for continuously doing that, because I
- 1:45Speaker 2: think there's a lot of women that, yes, you feel
- 1:47Speaker 2: like you know your body, but until it's something that's
- 1:50Speaker 2: really enlarged or something that you're you are physically feeling,
- 1:54Speaker 2: you don't even pay attention to it.
- 1:55Speaker 4: No, and it was My husband will tell you that.
- 1:58Speaker 4: He said, I will never get because you said to
- 2:00Speaker 4: me that day I found a lump and I know
- 2:02Speaker 4: that it's something.
- 2:03Speaker 5: Wow.
- 2:04Speaker 1: And it goes to show how quickly things can change
- 2:06Speaker 1: because I'm assuming you're showering. You know, I'm not saying
- 2:08Speaker 1: every day, but you know frequently and how regularly. It's
- 2:12Speaker 1: not something that just maybe is a slow build, but
- 2:14Speaker 1: one day it's just boom, there it is, and you know,
- 2:17Speaker 1: like you said, you just knew something was not right.
- 2:19Speaker 4: Yep, And I called right away that morning, got in
- 2:22Speaker 4: for a mammogram at Essentia and Wapaton that day and wow, the.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Same day, the same day. That's incredible. They were like,
- 2:30Speaker 3: can you be here in an hour? Absolutely?
- 2:32Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 2:32Speaker 4: So I was there within an hour, got called back
- 2:35Speaker 4: the next day. I'm not too many details, but from
- 2:38Speaker 4: the time that I found it in the shower till
- 2:41Speaker 4: until I had my mass ectomy with sixteen days.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Wow, that's how incredible. Mm hmm.
- 2:47Speaker 4: That's how fast the whole team worked. That's how fast
- 2:49Speaker 4: it went from point A to point B.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Well, I mean in every moment counts, So that's so
- 2:54Speaker 1: great that they're able to move that quickly. So walk
- 2:56Speaker 1: us through. You go in and they did the scan
- 2:59Speaker 1: and immediately it was discovered that it was cancerous.
- 3:02Speaker 4: The next morning. The next morning they called and said
- 3:04Speaker 4: we'd like you'd come back. So I went back and
- 3:06Speaker 4: did another mammogram and an ultrasound and this was wapaton again.
- 3:10Speaker 4: And while I was still on the table with the ultrasound,
- 3:12Speaker 4: they had sent the images up here to Fargo, And
- 3:17Speaker 4: while I was still laying on the table, the radiologist
- 3:20Speaker 4: from Fargo called back and said, we want to see
- 3:22Speaker 4: you here for a biome.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Which is great that we have such a good collaboration
- 3:26Speaker 2: with people in small towns, but more importantly what they
- 3:29Speaker 2: do here in Fargo at their cancer center over at
- 3:31Speaker 2: a Senia, they're amazing. And I know you're going to
- 3:34Speaker 2: speak to that, but they became your second family as
- 3:36Speaker 2: you were going through this process, because then eventually you
- 3:38Speaker 2: ended up doing chemo treatments.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Yep. Absolutely, And even when I went through the biopsy
- 3:44Speaker 4: and then there wasn't in my lymph nodes, we were
- 3:46Speaker 4: all very excited. It was great so I came up here,
- 3:50Speaker 4: did the biopsy, and then the next day got the
- 3:52Speaker 4: phone call that said that it was cancerous. And then
- 3:56Speaker 4: they sent me right to a surgeon and that surgeon
- 3:59Speaker 4: was doctor D's and he was amazing and awesome and
- 4:03Speaker 4: I was set up within six days from there for
- 4:06Speaker 4: my bilateral mass sectomy.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Is what we had decided to go with.
- 4:09Speaker 1: You, I mean, you talked about it when you told
- 4:12Speaker 1: your husband that something was wrong, like that moment had
- 4:14Speaker 1: for both of you just had to be terrifying, right
- 4:16Speaker 1: it was.
- 4:17Speaker 4: And I will say the worst part of all of
- 4:19Speaker 4: this was having to tell my kids.
- 4:21Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Yeah, we have four grown kids, and it.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Was how'd they do with it?
- 4:24Speaker 5: You know?
- 4:25Speaker 4: They did pretty well. My daughter hung up on me
- 4:28Speaker 4: when I first told her. She didn't want to hear it.
- 4:30Speaker 4: So then she waited and called me back, and then
- 4:32Speaker 4: we talked about it.
- 4:33Speaker 3: And it was my one son.
- 4:35Speaker 4: He just looked at me and said, huh okay, and
- 4:38Speaker 4: then he laughed right away. I got a thing on
- 4:40Speaker 4: my phone and it was like the link to is
- 4:43Speaker 4: it Sean Mullens the lullaby? Yeah, And he said, this
- 4:47Speaker 4: is the song that popped up.
- 4:49Speaker 3: Into my head.
- 4:50Speaker 4: The minute you told me you had cancer, mom, So
- 4:52Speaker 4: I'm just gonna believe that everything's.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Gonna be Everything's gonna be all right. Yeah.
- 4:55Speaker 4: So even doctor d'ss awesome team at Essentia played me
- 4:58Speaker 4: that song when I went in for surgery.
- 5:00Speaker 5: Wow as my theme song. So that is so cool
- 5:03Speaker 5: and they were amazing and uh like the song says
- 5:05Speaker 5: everything is going to be all right. And here we
- 5:07Speaker 5: are a year later, right, and can you give us
- 5:09Speaker 5: an update on how things are going?
- 5:11Speaker 3: Really well?
- 5:12Speaker 4: I uh just started my reconstruction on September eleventh. I
- 5:16Speaker 4: had told my doctor when they first told me that
- 5:19Speaker 4: I had cancer that I said, Okay, I've my plan
- 5:22Speaker 4: has always been to live to be one hundred and
- 5:24Speaker 4: three and I'm fifty three. So I'm going to give
- 5:26Speaker 4: you one year of my life to make it totally
- 5:28Speaker 4: miserable and then I'm going to take it back because
- 5:31Speaker 4: it's going to be over. And I've almost made that.
- 5:34Speaker 2: So just meeting you today, I think some of the
- 5:36Speaker 2: fight is just in your your energy and what you're
- 5:39Speaker 2: putting to it. Because so many people when they hear
- 5:42Speaker 2: the cancer word, they shut down and they don't have
- 5:44Speaker 2: a support system, and they get so scared, but it
- 5:46Speaker 2: seems like you had the exact opposite, and that's why
- 5:48Speaker 2: you're still moving forward every day.
- 5:50Speaker 4: Yep.
- 5:50Speaker 3: You just you can't a choice.
- 5:52Speaker 1: You can't.
- 5:52Speaker 3: You just can't stop.
- 5:53Speaker 4: And like I had said, we called this project bing
- 5:56Speaker 4: Bang Boom because it just it just has gone so fast,
- 5:59Speaker 4: and we hit it so fast and so hard, and
- 6:02Speaker 4: I can't think essential enough for my fantastic team that
- 6:06Speaker 4: I've had.
- 6:06Speaker 2: They were there's people listening right now and it is
- 6:09Speaker 2: Bras on Big ninety eight point seven.
- 6:10Speaker 3: We want to talk about.
- 6:11Speaker 2: This year long of course with women going in and
- 6:14Speaker 2: getting their mammograms.
- 6:15Speaker 3: But for people listening right now, what would you tell them?
- 6:17Speaker 4: Well, I will tell you to go get your mammograms,
- 6:20Speaker 4: but the all also my big thing is is you
- 6:23Speaker 4: need to throw away your big puffs in your shower.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Not only are they the loofahs. The loofahs yeah pretty gross.
- 6:31Speaker 4: So I thought it was my husband and he said,
- 6:32Speaker 4: you know what, those are really kind of gross. Like
- 6:35Speaker 4: I think we should just switch to wash class so
- 6:37Speaker 4: we can wash them, you know, after every shower whatever.
- 6:40Speaker 3: And I said, there's the personal hygiene aspect of it.
- 6:43Speaker 3: But then also of course.
- 6:44Speaker 4: Yeah, it's just how everything kind of ties together and
- 6:47Speaker 4: then all of a sudden, like I was in the
- 6:49Speaker 4: shower and if I would have had a puff or
- 6:52Speaker 4: a loofah whatever between my hand and my body, I
- 6:55Speaker 4: would have never felt it. Wow.
- 6:57Speaker 3: Never.
- 6:58Speaker 2: You know, all of the donations that were electing for
- 7:00Speaker 2: Asentia Health Cancer Center and their foundation this month goes
- 7:04Speaker 2: directly to people like you. You were out of town.
- 7:06Speaker 2: They're able to give gas cards. If you lose your hair,
- 7:09Speaker 2: they can do a wig. There's so many different things,
- 7:11Speaker 2: and those dollars really do matter when you're in the fight.
- 7:13Speaker 4: Yep, and they I was offered the wig. I was
- 7:15Speaker 4: offered hats.
- 7:16Speaker 1: You were in the right place of the Centia and Lynn,
- 7:18Speaker 1: we appreciate you sharing your story. I know it's not easy,
- 7:21Speaker 1: but it's a good one to hear, So thank you,
- 7:23Speaker 1: thank you,
