- 0:00Mark chapter 4, let's pray. Our Father who's in heaven, we
- 0:08love you. Jesus, we love you so much.
- 0:10Lord, I decrease as you increase.
- 0:13Holy Spirit, you teach us today. Holy Spirit, you be the guide
- 0:16today. Holy Spirit, you come have your
- 0:18way today. We love you.
- 0:20Jesus, we love you so much. Teach us your eternal truths and
- 0:24increase our obedience. Father, increase the love that
- 0:28we have for you. God help, help us to love our
- 0:30neighbor as ourselves. We love you, Jesus, we love
- 0:35everything about you and to send your holy and precious name that
- 0:38we pray, Amen. Let's start in verse one.
- 0:45And he began again to teach by the seaside, and there was
- 0:48gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered
- 0:52into a ship and sat in the sea. And the whole multitude was by
- 0:56the sea on the land. So we know that Jesus here he
- 1:00was using a boat as a backdrop. We know that this was
- 1:05unprecedented in the land. They would teach in the
- 1:08synagogues or in the temple. And here Jesus, He flips the
- 1:13script and he has a way about him that is fresh and new.
- 1:17And if we'll keep following after the Lord Jesus Christ,
- 1:20you're going to see that he leads you in heavenly places.
- 1:23He leads you in paths that are uncharted, and it's a great
- 1:30adventure when we follow after the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 1:33Verse 2 And he taught them many things by parables and said unto
- 1:38them in his doctrine, Jesus Christ, He is the word Jesus
- 1:42Christ. He gets to call the shots.
- 1:45Jesus Christ is the one who commands everything all around
- 1:49us. He is omnipotent and omniscient
- 1:54and omnipresent. He's everywhere.
- 1:56He's all powerful and all knowing.
- 1:58And here he is encapsulated all man and all God.
- 2:01And he's going to open his mouth.
- 2:03And the same mouth that created you and me.
- 2:07The same mouth that created the mountains and the oceans and the
- 2:11galaxies above our heads and the microscopic organisms beneath
- 2:17our feet. Here he is.
- 2:19He's going to open his mouth and he's going to reveal to us
- 2:22eternal truths. And we would do well to lock in
- 2:26and pay attention. Friends.
- 2:31Three, listen. Behold, there went out a sower
- 2:36to sow 4 And it came to pass. As he sowed, some fell by the
- 2:41wayside, and the birds of the air came and devoured it up.
- 2:47So we know that he's going to start talking about these four
- 2:51different soils that the seed falls upon.
- 2:55And we're going to see that these birds are actually Satan
- 2:58and the seed is the word of God and it's going out.
- 3:02And every time that this doctrine goes out and people are
- 3:06listening to it, as soon as they get done listening to it, here
- 3:09comes Satan, and he snatches it out of their minds and their
- 3:14hearts. They're trying to digest it,
- 3:16they're trying to discern it, but without the Holy Spirit,
- 3:20they will not be able to understand it.
- 3:23Friends 5 And some fell on Stony ground where it had not much
- 3:28earth, and immediately it sprang up because it had no depth of
- 3:33earth. 6 But when the sun was up, it was scorched, and because
- 3:37it had no root, it withered away.
- 3:39We know that these are some great enemies of us, the Satan.
- 3:43And then here's the flesh. And then we're going to see that
- 3:48the world and the cares of the world next.
- 3:50But what you need to know about this seed here is these people
- 3:55receive it and they receive it quickly and they are so excited
- 3:59about it. But as soon as persecution
- 4:01comes, as soon as hard times come, as soon as they are
- 4:04offended by Jesus because they prayed the paint off the wall,
- 4:08and nothing happened, they fall away, friends, and you see it
- 4:11every day. 7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up
- 4:17and choked it, and it yielded no fruit. 8 And other fell on good
- 4:21ground, and it did yield fruit, sprang up and increased, and
- 4:25brought forth 30 and 60, and some 109.
- 4:29And he said unto them, He that has ears to hear, let him hear.
- 4:33And he says the same thing today, friends, He's telling
- 4:35you, he's telling me, if you have ears to hear, if you can
- 4:39discern these things, bless it, are you?
- 4:42Listen up, friends. There are so many people that
- 4:47you're going to meet today. And as the word goes out, as the
- 4:50seed gets scattered, it's going to fall.
- 4:52And you can see that three of these, this is the wide Rd. that
- 4:57leads to destruction. And there's only 1/4 of them.
- 5:01This is the narrow straight path.
- 5:03This is the narrow gate. And you can see that only 1/4 of
- 5:06them receive it. But you can see out of that
- 5:08quarter that every single one of them produces fruit.
- 5:12And that is the indicator that is, is the marker.
- 5:15Friends, look at the fruit, you know, even the tree that
- 5:18produces no fruit, not just the bad fruit, but even the tree
- 5:22that produces no fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
- 5:2810 And when he was alone, they they that were about him with
- 5:34the 12 asked of him the parable. 11 And he said unto them, unto
- 5:39you it is given to know the mystery of the Kingdom of God,
- 5:42but unto them that are without all these things are done in
- 5:47parables. So here what you need to know
- 5:50about the word of God and what you need to know about these
- 5:52parables is you don't get to come to the parables and judge
- 5:56them, that parables judge you. And so Jesus here, he's bringing
- 6:02you to the door. He's bringing you all the way to
- 6:05the entrance, but you have to make the decision if you want to
- 6:09enter in. And these parables were meant to
- 6:14be shrouded to those who did not care to enter in, but for those
- 6:21who actually felt the prompting and the calling.
- 6:24And they decided to lock in and pay attention, which is if you
- 6:29have ears to hear, then you need to.
- 6:32And so once they entered in and they started to listen to the
- 6:36parable, what it would do is it would produce a mirror and they
- 6:39would see themselves as one of these.
- 6:42And then they would have to make a decision, friends.
- 6:45And that's what the parables were meant to do. 14, 12 That
- 6:57seeing they may see and not perceive, and hearing they may
- 7:03hear and not understand, lest at any time they should be
- 7:07converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.
- 7:11So Jesus here he was saving the people from a higher level of
- 7:19accountability that if they were to lock in and to listen, and if
- 7:24he was to make it plain for them, there would be a massive
- 7:28amount of responsibility to them if they chose not to obey.
- 7:34And it's no different today in our day and our our friends.
- 7:38If the skies were to RIP back today and God Almighty was to be
- 7:44revealed, every knee would bow and every tongue would confess.
- 7:48We are shrouded and clouded and we are.
- 7:52We are trying to believe that life just goes on and on and
- 7:56that we evolved from some kind of cell and that there's all of
- 8:03these wild ideas out there. But the reality is that all God
- 8:08has to do is reveal himself and every man, woman, child, beast,
- 8:15every living thing that teams in the water or above us would all
- 8:22shout out His praises because He is real and He is watching.
- 8:32And the only reason that we even think that we have free will,
- 8:38the only reason that we even think that we can make all of
- 8:43our own decisions and go our own way is because God Almighty is
- 8:48allowing us to have that free will.
- 8:51God Almighty is allowing us to send ourselves to hell and that
- 8:59is what you need to know here is that all he has to do is reveal
- 9:03himself. And for the moralistic mind, you
- 9:07would say, well, that is insanity, that why wouldn't God
- 9:13just reveal himself And it is because he does not desire false
- 9:18allegiance. Friends, God gets the most
- 9:22amount of glory whenever we choose Him, when we choose to
- 9:27love Him, when we choose to follow Him, when we choose to
- 9:31obey Him. He could make us at any moment,
- 9:36at any point, at in any day, in any time frame.
- 9:40He could make us obedient. He could make us follow Him.
- 9:45He could make us see Jesus Christ as the Son of God, but He
- 9:52has given us every tool and every resource.
- 9:55He has given us the Holy Spirit to draw us unto Himself, and we
- 10:00would do well to lock in and to give Him full obedience.
- 10:09We would do well to love Him to the utmost, Love Him above our
- 10:13own lives, love Him above every pleasure, love Him above every
- 10:19single thing that tries to distract us.
- 10:23And that is what brings Him the most amount of glory is when
- 10:26we're sold out to the King of Kings friends. 13 And he said
- 10:31unto them, no, you not this parable.
- 10:34Then how then will you know all parables?
- 10:37So this is like a entry level parable.
- 10:41It's going to explain so many of the other parables.
- 10:44And Jesus here, he's talking to his disciples, and he's saying,
- 10:48do you not even have the discernment to understand this
- 10:52very simple parable about the four soils that the seed falls
- 10:57on? How will you know the other
- 11:01parables? But he's so long-suffering with
- 11:04us. 14 The sower sows the word. 15 And these are they by the
- 11:11wayside where the word is sown. But when they have heard, Satan
- 11:15comes immediately and takes away the word that was sown in their
- 11:19hearts. 16 And these are they likewise which are sown on Stony
- 11:24ground, who, when they have heard the word, immediately
- 11:28receive it with gladness, 17 and have no root in themselves, and
- 11:33so endure. But for a time afterward, when
- 11:36affliction or persecution arises, for the word sake,
- 11:40immediately they are offended. We need to guard ourselves from
- 11:45that offense. Friends, blessed are you, if you
- 11:48can go through this life and not be offended. 18 And these are
- 11:56they which are sown among thorns, such as hear the word,
- 12:00and the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and
- 12:04the lust of other things enters and chokes the Word, and it
- 12:08becomes unfruitful. This is by and large what you're
- 12:12seeing in our day and our hour. Yes, we can see the first one.
- 12:16Yes, we can see the second one. But by and large, the people who
- 12:20claim to be believers, they are stuck in in this perpetual
- 12:24choking out and there is no fruit in their lives because
- 12:28they care so much about money, they care so much about being
- 12:32rich, they care so much about the things of this world and
- 12:36they're being choked out, friends.
- 12:39They're unfruitful. 20 And these are they which are sown on good
- 12:47ground, such as hear the word, receive it.
- 12:51They bring fourth fruit, some 30 fold, some 60 and some 100.
- 12:58Every single one of them bears fruit.
- 13:00Friends, just remember that. 21 And he said unto them, Is a
- 13:06candle brought to be put under a bushel or under a bed, and not
- 13:11to be set on a Candlestick. Just remember that we are the
- 13:15light of the world. We cannot be hidden friends.
- 13:19We cannot hide our light. We cannot be so mixed up in the
- 13:24world that we do not even have the fruit.
- 13:26We do not even shine our light. 22 For there is nothing hid
- 13:31which shall not be manifested, neither was anything kept
- 13:35secret, but that it should come abroad.
- 13:39Just remember that what is done in the dark will be talked about
- 13:42in the light. What is done in the closet will
- 13:44be talked about from the rooftop.
- 13:46There is nothing hidden to God, friends.
- 13:49Everything will be laid bare and exposed, and God will make sure
- 13:53that that happens. You will be found out.
- 13:56Be sure that your sin will find you out, friends.
- 13:59But he's telling his disciples here that they need to be the
- 14:02light of the world. He's telling them here.
- 14:07And 23 If any man has ears to hear, let him hear. 24 And he
- 14:11said to them, Take heed what you hear.
- 14:14With what measure you meet, it shall be measured to you, and
- 14:19unto you that here shall more be given.
- 14:23So here's what you need to know is that if you will believe
- 14:28every single syllable inside of this good book from Genesis to
- 14:32Revelation, God is going to be well pleased to continue to pour
- 14:36out his mind and his heart and to give you new doctrine to give
- 14:43you new revelations. But for those who think that
- 14:50they have this book all figured out and they can just button
- 14:53every little thing up, even what they have will be taken from
- 14:58them. Don't forget that, friends, when
- 15:02we think that we have it all figured out, you're going to get
- 15:06confounded. You're going to get perpetually
- 15:10frustrated with this word because you are approaching it
- 15:15from a scholastic approach, as if it's just something that we
- 15:22could learn. And then all of a sudden we're
- 15:26done with it and we try to go around talking about it, but our
- 15:32doctrine is heretical because we are not tapped into the power
- 15:37source. And if we will trust every
- 15:41single word and if we will not call any of it into question,
- 15:45what you will see is that even the things that you do have will
- 15:49continuously grow and they will only become more and more
- 15:53refined as time goes on. That you will see that there is
- 15:57the Mariana Trench that is unsearchable in this Word of
- 16:01God. That it is alive and active, and
- 16:04it is reading you, friend, as you read it, even more shall be
- 16:10given to those who trust in it. 25 For he that has to him shall
- 16:16be given, and he that has not from him shall be taken even
- 16:22that which he has. 26 And he said, so is the Kingdom of God,
- 16:28as if a man should cast seed into the ground, 27 and should
- 16:34sleep and rise night and day, and the seeds should spring and
- 16:38grow up, and he know not how. So we can see here that God puts
- 16:47all of the energy and life into a little seed and we cannot
- 16:54manufacture that. It is a miracle.
- 16:57It's like a baby growing inside of the womb.
- 17:02It is a miracle, friends. This is miraculous.
- 17:05Life only comes from life, friends, and this is God
- 17:11ordained and it is beautiful. And here Jesus is showing them
- 17:17that this farmer goes and sows the seed, but he cannot make it
- 17:22grow. Yes, He can cultivate the
- 17:24environment that he thinks that it's going to grow the best, but
- 17:28he cannot make it grow. Only God can do that. 28 For the
- 17:33earth brings forth fruit of herself, first the blade in the
- 17:37ear, after that the full corn in the ear. 29 But when the fruit
- 17:42is brought forth, immediately he puts it in the sickle, because
- 17:46the harvest has come. This is such a reference to what
- 17:49is going to happen at the end of days, when God calls in the
- 17:53harvest, and He knows the complete number before he brings
- 17:57about the final coming of the Lord Jesus Christ, and that we
- 18:05will be with Him forever and ever, and the harvest will come
- 18:09in. 30 And he said, What shall we like in the Kingdom of God,
- 18:16or with what comparison shall we compare it?
- 18:1931 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which when it is sown in
- 18:23the earth is less than all the seeds that be in the earth. 32
- 18:28But when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all
- 18:31herbs, and shoots out great branches, so that the fowls of
- 18:35the air may lodge under the shadow of it.
- 18:38And this we know, these fowls of the air.
- 18:41This is what happens whenever you have so many false religions
- 18:45spring up out of Christianity. Jesus here is showing us that we
- 18:50need to be careful. As the Kingdom grows, there are
- 18:54going to be deceivers that come in these false teachers, this
- 18:58false doctrine, these people that try to drag you away.
- 19:02And if you'll study the authentic word of God, you're
- 19:06going to know when the counterfeit comes across.
- 19:08Friends, that is how we safeguard ourselves is by
- 19:12getting in this book and not just popping on some sermon that
- 19:18sounds good and has a catchy little Jingle.
- 19:21And then over time what happens is you're LED away, the ring is
- 19:26put in your nose and you are LED away into captivity.
- 19:31Friends, we need to be like the Bereans and study the Word of
- 19:35God for ourselves. Know the Word of God for
- 19:38ourselves. Make sure we're teaching the
- 19:40Word of God, the authentic, pure Word, Word of God, from Genesis
- 19:45to Revelation, nothing added and nothing subtracted.
- 19:48Friends 33 and with many such parables spoke He the Word unto
- 19:55them, as they were able to hear it, 34.
- 20:00But without a parable spoke He not unto them.
- 20:03And when they were alone, he expounded all things to his
- 20:06disciples. So we know that Jesus was very
- 20:09intentional about speaking to the masses through these
- 20:12parables, because if he made it as plain, all He has to do is
- 20:18say I am, and everyone will fall backwards.
- 20:22He has all that power and we know that He is shrouding all of
- 20:27His glory in this moment and He's speaking to those who will
- 20:33listen, and He knows that only a few will find it. 35 And the
- 20:40same day, when the evening was come, he said unto them, Let us
- 20:45Passover unto the other side. So here Jesus is making them a
- 20:49promise that they're going to make it to the other side.
- 20:52But let's see what happens. 36 And when they had sent away the
- 20:56multitude, they took him, even as he was in the ship, and there
- 21:02were also with him other little ships.
- 21:06So we know that these disciples are crossing over 37 And there
- 21:13arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship so
- 21:18that it was now full. So these waves are in danger of
- 21:25capsizing this boat, and the disciples look around to see
- 21:32what Jesus is going to do. And this was a test of their
- 21:35faith. They had heard all these
- 21:37parables. But it's one thing to hear it,
- 21:39and it's another thing to put it into practice.
- 21:42And that's what we need to understand, friends.
- 21:44We need to know that if we have faith, we can find peace in the
- 21:51midst of the storms, the chaos, and we need to be able to put
- 21:55our faith into practice and hear Jesus leads them out into the
- 21:59middle of the water and he goes and takes a nap because He is
- 22:02perfect peace and He is in the Father's will.
- 22:08And when you are in the Father's will, you can find peace in the
- 22:11middle of a chaos. We need to know that there's so
- 22:17much going on around us, but Jesus offers us peace. 38 And he
- 22:26was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow.
- 22:29And they awoke him, and said unto him, Master, do you not
- 22:32care that we perish? 39 And he arose, and he rebuked
- 22:36the wind, and that said to the sea, Peace be still.
- 22:38And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. 40 And he said
- 22:41unto them, Why are you so fearful?
- 22:44How is it that you have no faith?
- 22:4541 And they feared exceedingly, and said to one another, What
- 22:49manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey?
- 22:55We blew through some verses there, friends.
- 22:57But what you need to know here is that they had not yet figured
- 23:01it out. They said, what manner of man is
- 23:05this? They had not said that you are
- 23:07the Christ, the Son of God. They have not yet seen the deity
- 23:13of Him. They're following a rabbi who
- 23:16can perform miracles and perhaps is their Liberator, and Jesus
- 23:22needs them to know that his main mission was to be the savior of
- 23:27the world, and they are his ambassadors.
- 23:31They are the apostles, and they are sent out into the whole
- 23:35world to flip the whole world upside down.
- 23:39What an amazing chapter here. It's one thing to profess to
- 23:44believe in Him, and it's another thing to practice it, friends,
- 23:48to put our faith into practice in the middle of the storm.
- 23:55I hope you've been blessed by this chapter here.
- 23:58I know I sure have. I'm praying for every single one
- 24:04of you. I love you and so does God.
- 24:13We'll see you back here tomorrow.
- 24:14God bless you.
