- 0:00Speaker 1: Today, we're in the twenty twenty five months to CX
- 0:02Speaker 1: seventy plug in hybrid, which isn't super important other than
- 0:05Speaker 1: the fact that it's a good platform for demonstrating both
- 0:08Speaker 1: wired and wireless Android Auto, and it's got a big
- 0:11Speaker 1: screen that you can see everything clearly. Now, if you
- 0:13Speaker 1: don't have a twenty twenty five brand new car, well,
- 0:16Speaker 1: don't worry. There's also a lot of aftermarket options that
- 0:20Speaker 1: you can use to add Apple CarPlay or Android Auto
- 0:22Speaker 1: to older vehicles. So now that we've gotten through that,
- 0:25Speaker 1: let's dig right into getting connected.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Now. Android Auto is not just a cheap knockoff of
- 0:31Speaker 2: Apple Car Play.
- 0:32Speaker 1: It's been around for merely as long, and it's an
- 0:34Speaker 1: extremely popular way to get on the road with things
- 0:37Speaker 1: like Google Maps and your favorite audio streaming apps. For
- 0:39Speaker 1: the phone, you need an Android phone running at least
- 0:42Speaker 1: Android version six point zero for a wired connection, and
- 0:46Speaker 1: for wireless connections, we're talking Android ten, Android eleven, depending
- 0:50Speaker 1: on the manufacturer. Google's Pixel phones and the Samsung Galaxy
- 0:54Speaker 1: series of handsets are the best for compatibility.
- 0:57Speaker 2: Your mileage made vary if you get a lesson known
- 1:00Speaker 2: phone type.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Today, I've got my Google Pixel six pro here an
- 1:05Speaker 1: older phone, but it's running the newest version of the
- 1:07Speaker 1: Android sixteen Beta, so don't worry if bits of your
- 1:11Speaker 1: menu look a little bit different from what I've got here.
- 1:14Speaker 2: It's pretty much the same steps to get started. Now.
- 1:17Speaker 1: The next thing that you're gonna need is a USB cable,
- 1:20Speaker 1: and here's a place that you definitely don't want to
- 1:22Speaker 1: cheap out. Depending on your phone, you'll either need a
- 1:25Speaker 1: micro USB cable for your phone side or a USB
- 1:28Speaker 1: Type C, and depending on your car, you're gonna either need.
- 1:31Speaker 2: A USB Type C or the older USB Type A port.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Most Android phones say that they can get by with
- 1:37Speaker 1: a USB two point zero connection, but I find that
- 1:39Speaker 1: using a USB three point one Gen two connection will
- 1:42Speaker 1: guarantee that you'll have the best bandwidth. Buying a nicer
- 1:46Speaker 1: cable also means that you'll probably have a nicer connection,
- 1:48Speaker 1: so no wiggling. They're a more stable connection and a
- 1:52Speaker 1: much better behind the wheel experience. The next step is
- 1:55Speaker 1: to plug them all in cable to the car to
- 2:00Speaker 1: the phone, and your car should automatically recognize that your
- 2:04Speaker 1: phone supports Android Auto and show you a prompt to
- 2:07Speaker 1: get connected. You'll also have to approve this connection on
- 2:11Speaker 1: your phone side, So do this while parked, not at
- 2:14Speaker 1: eighty miles an hour, but that's pretty much it.
- 2:16Speaker 2: You're now set up.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Now, if your car supports wireless Android Auto, you may
- 2:21Speaker 1: get a prompt to connect to that you may have
- 2:24Speaker 1: to go into a menu on your phone to set
- 2:26Speaker 1: it up. Your mileage may vary depending on the generation
- 2:29Speaker 1: of Android you're running on your phone and what the
- 2:31Speaker 1: software in your car wants to do. Some cars, like
- 2:34Speaker 1: certain BMW support a feature called fast pairing, whereas when
- 2:37Speaker 1: you get in the car, it automatically recognizes that your
- 2:41Speaker 1: phone supports Android Auto and just prompts you to connect
- 2:44Speaker 1: it kind of like quick pairing with air pods on
- 2:46Speaker 1: an iPhone, and certain Mercedes Benz vehicles have NFC points
- 2:50Speaker 1: that you can tap your phone to automatically initiate pairing. Now,
- 2:53Speaker 1: connecting via Bluetooth is going to vary from car to car,
- 2:56Speaker 1: so showing you it here doesn't really help you very
- 2:58Speaker 1: much if you drive a different from the twenty twenty
- 3:01Speaker 1: five miles to CX seventy.
- 3:02Speaker 2: But a tip that I've found.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Is that if you're in a car and it doesn't
- 3:07Speaker 1: have a phone paired to it usually you can hold
- 3:11Speaker 1: down the voice come in button and it will automatically
- 3:13Speaker 1: pull up the.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Bluetooth pairing menu.
- 3:16Speaker 1: From there, you should be able to very quickly get
- 3:19Speaker 1: your phone paired and connected to Android Auto wirelessly. Now
- 3:24Speaker 1: we got a pairing code here, whoop, and we're good
- 3:29Speaker 1: to go. Now. Wireless connectivity is great for short trips,
- 3:32Speaker 1: but I really like to plug in for longer trips
- 3:35Speaker 1: for a variety of reasons. Number one being that your
- 3:38Speaker 1: phone is gonna be rendering maps for navigation, it's gonna
- 3:41Speaker 1: be streaming audio, and it's gonna be doing all of
- 3:43Speaker 1: that while keeping its Wi Fi connection hot, and that's
- 3:46Speaker 1: gonna be a big drain on your phone's battery. It's
- 3:49Speaker 1: gonna make your phone get very hot, which is great
- 3:51Speaker 1: for longevity. So for longer trips, I like to plug in,
- 3:55Speaker 1: which is why I fit that that cable is so important.
- 3:58Speaker 1: So now we're all connected. This is the Android Auto interface.
- 4:03Speaker 1: In a lot of ways, it's more flexible than Apple
- 4:05Speaker 1: Car Play, and in a lot of ways it's just different.
- 4:08Speaker 1: We've got a split screen configuration here in most vehicles, though,
- 4:11Speaker 1: depending on whether you have a wide screen or a
- 4:14Speaker 1: tall screen or a square screen. You may see the
- 4:17Speaker 1: screen split differently in your car along the left edge.
- 4:20Speaker 1: We've got shortcuts to our most recently used apps, and
- 4:23Speaker 1: we can also pull up a list.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Of all of the apps that are on our phone. Now.
- 4:28Speaker 1: When you connect to Android Auto, every app that's on
- 4:31Speaker 1: your phone will automatically populate this list. If you want
- 4:35Speaker 1: to rearrange them or get rid of an app you
- 4:38Speaker 1: don't want it showing up in the list, you're gonna
- 4:40Speaker 1: have to pop over to your phone and go into
- 4:42Speaker 1: the settings now if you don't want to be reaching
- 4:45Speaker 1: to tap your screen or scrolling around like we do
- 4:48Speaker 1: here in the Maza. You also have voice command. You
- 4:51Speaker 1: can either tap the microphone here, you can hold down
- 4:54Speaker 1: the voice command button on your steering wheel for a
- 4:56Speaker 1: couple of seconds to trigger the Google Assistant or Gemini,
- 4:59Speaker 1: depending on how you're bone this setup, or you can
- 5:01Speaker 1: hit it with the good old Hey Google, Navigate the.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Work sure Anderson Anderson architecture. So there you have it.
- 5:10Speaker 1: How to get connected with Android Atto in your car,
- 5:13Speaker 1: and some tips that can help you troubleshoot any connectivity
- 5:15Speaker 1: issues you might be having.
- 5:16Speaker 2: Drive safe and I'll see you next time.
