- 0:04Speaker 1: This episode features first hand accounts from real people detailing
- 0:08Speaker 1: their disturbing experiences. Listener discretion is advised.
- 0:31Speaker 2: So my name is Pamba Boss. I am a mental
- 0:36Speaker 2: health professional in Roseville, California. I drive a lot from
- 0:42Speaker 2: my job and I have gotten rearended a couple of times.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Nothing major, but it's something that has happened. So when
- 0:52Speaker 2: I initially had my experience, I chalked it up to
- 0:58Speaker 2: a like stress and induced trauma response that I had.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Something had reminded me of a past car accident, and
- 1:06Speaker 2: that's why this happened. So I guess I'll just get
- 1:08Speaker 2: into it. So I was coming back from my lunch break.
- 1:14Speaker 2: I was right across the street from my office and
- 1:16Speaker 2: I was in a left hand turn lane. This van
- 1:19Speaker 2: came up behind me, going pretty slow. Came to a
- 1:23Speaker 2: gentle stop behind me, and I watched in my rearview mirror,
- 1:26Speaker 2: and I really was overwhelmed by this fear that they
- 1:32Speaker 2: were going to hit me. There was no reason why
- 1:36Speaker 2: they would have hit me. I mean, they were going
- 1:38Speaker 2: pretty slow. They stopped a good distance back from me,
- 1:42Speaker 2: but it was the fear was palpable. Suddenly, I felt
- 1:47Speaker 2: as if I had been hit from behind. I mean,
- 1:50Speaker 2: my whole body jerked. I felt like my car jerked.
- 1:54Speaker 2: And I looked up in my rearview mirror again, thinking,
- 1:57Speaker 2: know they did hit me, but they're still sitting there.
- 2:01Speaker 2: I get this horrible pain, like in my upper back
- 2:07Speaker 2: and in my neck and in my head. It felt
- 2:11Speaker 2: like whiplash. It felt like my head had been cracked open,
- 2:16Speaker 2: and there was the overwhelming smell and taste of gasoline.
- 2:25Speaker 2: I didn't know how to respond to this. To me,
- 2:30Speaker 2: my body reacted as if I was in a car accident.
- 2:33Speaker 2: I was trembling. I felt like I was gonna cry
- 2:35Speaker 2: a little bit because I was scared, and yet nothing
- 2:39Speaker 2: had hit my car. The light turns green, but I'm
- 2:44Speaker 2: still kind of just stuck sitting there, not understanding what's
- 2:48Speaker 2: happening to me. Mind me honks, I go. They go
- 2:53Speaker 2: around me in a wave, and I pull immediately into
- 2:57Speaker 2: my office driveway and just sat there for a moment,
- 3:01Speaker 2: because I mean, I was in I was in pain.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I mean, I can't. I have not been in pain
- 3:08Speaker 2: like that before. I've been in car accidents before, but
- 3:10Speaker 2: I have never been in pain like that. Just like,
- 3:15Speaker 2: all I could smell was gas. I could smell gas vaguely,
- 3:19Speaker 2: remember just this kind of smell of like maybe something
- 3:22Speaker 2: slightly burning, so that I'm like, I'm having a stroke,
- 3:25Speaker 2: Like this is me an heurism, and I was. I was.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I was really scared. And I sat in my car
- 3:32Speaker 2: for a little while before I went inside, and I
- 3:35Speaker 2: kept thinking about, like my mom getting a call that
- 3:41Speaker 2: I died, that I died in a car accident. I mean,
- 3:46Speaker 2: it was so vivid, just this idea that that I
- 3:50Speaker 2: don't know why that's what I was thinking, But I
- 3:52Speaker 2: thought about mangled, my mangled little Pia, my mangled car.
- 3:58Speaker 2: I thought about my sister. I thought about the way
- 4:01Speaker 2: my father would react. I thought about my mom, and
- 4:03Speaker 2: I start to cry. But there's no reason for any
- 4:08Speaker 2: of this to be happening. Did the smell and the
- 4:14Speaker 2: taste of gas dissipated, and I kind of collected myself
- 4:17Speaker 2: enough to go inside of my office and get some
- 4:20Speaker 2: work done. I ended up canceling my appointments with clients
- 4:24Speaker 2: for the rest of the day. I mean, I was
- 4:26Speaker 2: it was that jarring that I didn't want to see.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I didn't want to drive. I didn't want to get
- 4:30Speaker 2: in my car and go anywhere. I ended up going
- 4:33Speaker 2: home at the end of the day, drove real careful
- 4:38Speaker 2: the whole way home, and my fiance at the time
- 4:44Speaker 2: when I got home, I'm like, hey, like, this super
- 4:47Speaker 2: weird thing happened to me today and I can't explain it,
- 4:51Speaker 2: and I don't know why I experienced this. I told
- 4:54Speaker 2: him there must have been a smell, there must have
- 4:58Speaker 2: been a sound so on the radio that reminded me
- 5:02Speaker 2: of a little fender bender that I've been in before,
- 5:05Speaker 2: and for some reason I reacted this way. And he's like, well,
- 5:09Speaker 2: that's not like you, you know, that's not that's that's
- 5:13Speaker 2: that's I mean, that's interesting. And he just said, what
- 5:16Speaker 2: if you died in an alternate universe and you felt it?
- 5:22Speaker 2: And I'm only at the time only vaguely familiar with
- 5:31Speaker 2: the concept of quantum immortality. You know, you hear about
- 5:35Speaker 2: Schrodinger's cat and you're just kind of like cool, you know,
- 5:37Speaker 2: and it doesn't at least for me, it didn't mean
- 5:40Speaker 2: much to me. It was just like, that's a I
- 5:41Speaker 2: guess that's the thing. I don't know. I didn't really
- 5:43Speaker 2: know much about it, couldn't explain it to anybody, but
- 5:47Speaker 2: I just thought, yeah, that's that's really weird. So I
- 5:49Speaker 2: went to read it. I was pretty new one Reddit,
- 5:51Speaker 2: and I thought, you know, I'm just going to go
- 5:52Speaker 2: to clitchen the matrix and post it. And I think
- 5:56Speaker 2: I opened it. I didn't even know if it was
- 5:58Speaker 2: appropriate for that sub or not, and just like, this
- 6:02Speaker 2: is a strange thing that has happened to me. And
- 6:06Speaker 2: one of the first comments I got was someone asking
- 6:10Speaker 2: if anything had been different? Is there anything that I
- 6:14Speaker 2: remember that's, you know, before this happened, that is different now,
- 6:18Speaker 2: And I'm thinking, you know, there's you know, nothing. So
- 6:22Speaker 2: when I went to read it, I hit there was
- 6:23Speaker 2: a gap. There was like a I don't know, three weeks,
- 6:27Speaker 2: maybe a month gap. I think I can't really remember.
- 6:29Speaker 2: It could have been a few months gap between that,
- 6:32Speaker 2: and but it was bothering me. I mean, this stuck
- 6:35Speaker 2: with me. This was so bizarre that I after a month,
- 6:39Speaker 2: I couldn't take it. And I'm like, I just got
- 6:41Speaker 2: to talk to it. I gotta do this. I'm going
- 6:42Speaker 2: to post this somewhere, talk to somebody, maybe they know
- 6:44Speaker 2: what happened. Maybe this has happened to somebody else. And
- 6:49Speaker 2: at first I thought, no, nothing's different, and then I
- 6:53Speaker 2: remember that there was there was one thing specifically that
- 6:56Speaker 2: I could remember that was different. Is I live down
- 7:01Speaker 2: an alley, so there's like the main road, and then
- 7:04Speaker 2: to get to my house in this litt row of houses,
- 7:06Speaker 2: it's an alleyway. You only come down here if and
- 7:10Speaker 2: it's a dead end too, so you only come down
- 7:11Speaker 2: here if you look here. And all along the back
- 7:14Speaker 2: fence is succulents and cacti and a gave and alo
- 7:20Speaker 2: and it's lovely. I've always really enjoyed it. I remember
- 7:24Speaker 2: when I was packing up my car with my fiance
- 7:27Speaker 2: at the time for Christmas that the big aloe plant
- 7:31Speaker 2: that I always looked at from my kitchen window was gone,
- 7:35Speaker 2: and I'm like, that's like And at first I'm like,
- 7:39Speaker 2: who what jerk came down here and dug up this aloe?
- 7:44Speaker 2: Like that is so rude. And I was kind of
- 7:47Speaker 2: laughing about it because that's what I wanted to do
- 7:48Speaker 2: when I moved to steal the allow plant. And he
- 7:54Speaker 2: just looks at me and he's like, what are you
- 7:55Speaker 2: talking about? So that giant alo plant that was that
- 8:02Speaker 2: was sitting out here, I mean it's been here for year.
- 8:04Speaker 2: What do you what do you mean, what am I
- 8:05Speaker 2: talking about? But for years it's right outside the kitchen window.
- 8:08Speaker 2: I talk about it all the time. I'm pretty sure
- 8:11Speaker 2: I've clipped a leaf off of this, you know, like
- 8:15Speaker 2: we're out there all the time. And he had no
- 8:17Speaker 2: recollection of this allo plant. When I had posted that
- 8:24Speaker 2: to Reddit, I thought no, like there had to be
- 8:27Speaker 2: somebody who like dug this up or it died or something.
- 8:30Speaker 2: I don't know, And I went out there and looked.
- 8:35Speaker 2: It doesn't look like anything has ever been there. It's
- 8:47Speaker 2: it's weird. It's weird because I didn't. I didn't think
- 8:49Speaker 2: about that. I would never. I probably just would have
- 8:52Speaker 2: been like, you know, some jerk dug up this allo
- 8:54Speaker 2: whatever and then never thought about it again. Even if
- 8:58Speaker 2: my fancy didn't remember, I would just would have been like,
- 9:00Speaker 2: you don't really pay attention anyway, so you brought you
- 9:02Speaker 2: may not remember the allo. I end up asking a
- 9:06Speaker 2: neighbor too, like he like a big alo that was
- 9:09Speaker 2: out here it was so cool, And they're like, no,
- 9:14Speaker 2: there's a big a golp day like down you know,
- 9:16Speaker 2: down a few feet, and I'm like, no, I'm I know
- 9:18Speaker 2: that one. That's not what I'm ting I'm talking about
- 9:20Speaker 2: a big aloe that was right here. No, that's what
- 9:26Speaker 2: got me, you know. I mean I figured it would
- 9:29Speaker 2: get some maybe some up boats, maybe some comments or something.
- 9:31Speaker 3: People.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Oh, that happened to me too, and you know, I
- 9:34Speaker 2: could feel less alone, And they think that that was
- 9:37Speaker 2: my whole motivation for everything. It was when someone just
- 9:40Speaker 2: asked me simply if there was anything that was different,
- 9:44Speaker 2: and I think that launched me into this hole. It
- 9:48Speaker 2: changed things. It really changed things. It changed the way
- 9:52Speaker 2: I look at everything at that event. I've thought a
- 9:58Speaker 2: lot about it since. And if there's anything else that's different.
- 10:03Speaker 2: And there is one thing that is also different that
- 10:08Speaker 2: I didn't post on there was that I'm missing a
- 10:11Speaker 2: favorite sweater. This is black sweater, super plain, loved it
- 10:18Speaker 2: so much. Figured it got lost in the laundry somewhere,
- 10:22Speaker 2: and I thought just to ask my fiance about it.
- 10:24Speaker 2: He you know, what do we do with that sweater?
- 10:29Speaker 2: Do you remember that sweater? And it was black? And
- 10:30Speaker 2: I had the saying and like, you know, and he's like, no,
- 10:33Speaker 2: I don't know what you're talking about. And I'm like, dude,
- 10:34Speaker 2: my favorite sweater, Like I wore it all the time,
- 10:36Speaker 2: like it was kind of gross because I just I
- 10:39Speaker 2: wore it in Cicely and he had no idea what
- 10:43Speaker 2: sweater I was talking about. A problem is too, is
- 10:46Speaker 2: that I wear a lot of black and its. It'd
- 10:50Speaker 2: be difficult, but I've been looking. I have been looking
- 10:53Speaker 2: to see if I can find anything, and at least
- 10:55Speaker 2: in my camera role, at least since last summer. Like
- 11:01Speaker 2: you know, so through the winter. There's nothing of me
- 11:03Speaker 2: in the sweater. There's me in other black sweaters. There's
- 11:07Speaker 2: me in black jackets, there's me in black tank tops.
- 11:10Speaker 2: There's I can't find anything with this with the sweater.
- 11:14Speaker 2: You know, you hear it and feel it at the
- 11:16Speaker 2: same time. Your whole car jerks forward, your body jerks forward.
- 11:20Speaker 2: I physically moved. I don't know about the car. I
- 11:23Speaker 2: could have moved the car with how hard I jerked,
- 11:27Speaker 2: It's entirely possible I did that, but I did. I
- 11:31Speaker 2: lurched forward pretty far, almost hit my steering wheel, and
- 11:36Speaker 2: then looked up in the rear view mirror, immediately thinking that,
- 11:40Speaker 2: you know, this person hit me. I wasn't tipped off
- 11:44Speaker 2: by the sound that there was no sound of anything
- 11:48Speaker 2: hitting my car. It was just that feeling I can't
- 11:53Speaker 2: remember if there was someone next to me or not,
- 11:55Speaker 2: because it was, you know, two lanes were turning left.
- 11:57Speaker 2: I can't remember if there was anyone next to me
- 11:59Speaker 2: or not. The good person behind me. No, they were
- 12:03Speaker 2: on their phone actually, so when I looked up in
- 12:06Speaker 2: my rivery mirror, he's just sitting there like texting on
- 12:08Speaker 2: his phone. Yeah, nothing happened, you know, good few feet
- 12:15Speaker 2: behind me. It was they weren't close to me. They
- 12:19Speaker 2: were a good distance. And that was something that kind
- 12:22Speaker 2: of I thought about too, like if this was you know,
- 12:27Speaker 2: Schrodinger's cat kind of thing where at one point, you know,
- 12:32Speaker 2: I was both alive and dead, and then those two
- 12:38Speaker 2: realities collapsed, right, And that's what I'm feeling. But I'm alive.
- 12:44Speaker 2: But I wonder, like, in this other universe, in this
- 12:49Speaker 2: parallel whatever, were they on their phone and didn't stop
- 12:53Speaker 2: in time, and so they just plowed right into me.
- 13:00Speaker 2: He was sitting there on his phone. I was so confused.
- 13:05Speaker 2: I was convinced that I had been hit. So I'm
- 13:09Speaker 2: looking in my rearview mirror like, is this a big
- 13:11Speaker 2: enough space for like a car to have slipped in?
- 13:13Speaker 2: I looked everywhere, like, you know, did a car cut
- 13:16Speaker 2: across and nick like, what would it happened? But then
- 13:19Speaker 2: the person behind me is not reacting at all. If
- 13:21Speaker 2: something had like that had happened, I'd imagine they'd be reacting.
- 13:24Speaker 2: And I was just so confused and then very internal
- 13:32Speaker 2: too in that moment, because I'm in a great deal
- 13:35Speaker 2: of pain, just the back of my head, my neck,
- 13:39Speaker 2: like just like my I mean, it felt like if
- 13:43Speaker 2: I'd have never had my head split open before, but
- 13:45Speaker 2: I can imagine that that's what it would what it
- 13:47Speaker 2: would feel like. It was very like I felt like
- 13:50Speaker 2: I couldn't move. It was awful. I cannot I can't
- 13:55Speaker 2: describe it. I have nothing to compare it to. I
- 13:57Speaker 2: haven't experienced pain like that before. I had started to
- 14:04Speaker 2: see a chiropractor somewhat recently, and I had asked I
- 14:09Speaker 2: told him what had happened, and he asked if let
- 14:13Speaker 2: me back up a little bit. So I saw my
- 14:16Speaker 2: general doctor first. I told him what had happened. He
- 14:20Speaker 2: stated that he thought it was strange. He said, there's
- 14:25Speaker 2: no reason I had had a brain scan I think
- 14:30Speaker 2: like a year before, because I was just having some
- 14:32Speaker 2: headaches and He's like, there's nothing that indicates that anything
- 14:38Speaker 2: you know is wrong with you, like why something like
- 14:40Speaker 2: this would occur. I have no risk factors for a
- 14:44Speaker 2: stroke or aneurysm or anything like that. The only thing
- 14:48Speaker 2: he was able to find was just tend nights in
- 14:50Speaker 2: my shoulder. So I went to a chiropractor. I told
- 14:54Speaker 2: him what had happened. He thought I was He loved it.
- 14:56Speaker 2: He was like, tell me more about it, and he
- 15:00Speaker 2: checked me out and there was nothing wrong with me
- 15:03Speaker 2: besides general you know, stiffness from sitting at a desk
- 15:09Speaker 2: and driving all the time. There was nothing wrong with
- 15:13Speaker 2: me at all. Yeah. So this happened in oh goodness,
- 15:18Speaker 2: I think it was in November December. It was a
- 15:21Speaker 2: few weeks before Christmas. So I have not had any
- 15:27Speaker 2: other strange things. There's things that have happened that I
- 15:32Speaker 2: like to imagine is connected to this, but I don't
- 15:37Speaker 2: know that. I haven't had anything like that happened to
- 15:42Speaker 2: me before. Since I've always been interested in the unexplained,
- 15:50Speaker 2: in the strange and the unusual. It's been a fascination
- 15:56Speaker 2: for as long as I can remember. Things that are paranormal,
- 15:59Speaker 2: things that are like cryptozoology, like just all kinds of things.
- 16:04Speaker 2: So I'm already very open to alternative explanations. I have
- 16:11Speaker 2: been interested in quantum mechanics and just kind of understanding
- 16:15Speaker 2: a little bit about these thought experiments and like quantum
- 16:21Speaker 2: suicide and Schrodinger's cat, and I've been I've been interested,
- 16:25Speaker 2: but I didn't kind of I didn't go down the
- 16:27Speaker 2: rabbit hole until this happened and people started commenting on
- 16:32Speaker 2: this this thread that I'm like quantum mortalic, like what
- 16:36Speaker 2: is this? And then I'm I'm just I'm reading everything
- 16:39Speaker 2: i can about it, and I'm I'm pretty convinced. You know,
- 16:45Speaker 2: there's still that there's still that like mental health worker
- 16:49Speaker 2: in me that's like, girl, you were really stressed out
- 16:52Speaker 2: that day or something, you know, and trying to attribute
- 16:57Speaker 2: that to this, but that I also know there was
- 17:01Speaker 2: nothing occurring that could have triggered something like this. There
- 17:05Speaker 2: has to be an alternative explanation there just there has
- 17:10Speaker 2: to be. And learning about quantum immortality it's fascinating and
- 17:18Speaker 2: I'm I can't stop looking it up now. Reality is
- 17:26Speaker 2: stranger than fiction, and I believe it's real. I believe
- 17:32Speaker 2: quantum immortality is real. I believe this, and I now
- 17:37Speaker 2: believe that this is an explanation for what has happened
- 17:41Speaker 2: to me. I would say that at some point there
- 17:46Speaker 2: were two realities where I died in one and my
- 17:53Speaker 2: consciousness jumped to another, that my consciousness remained in the
- 18:02Speaker 2: in the reality where I lived, even if it's not,
- 18:05Speaker 2: you know, And that's the thing too, is there's there
- 18:08Speaker 2: must be another reality where maybe I was in that
- 18:11Speaker 2: car accident and I and I lived, And it's like, well,
- 18:17Speaker 2: you know, wouldn't I wouldn't my consciousness instead jump to
- 18:21Speaker 2: that one who had that experience? But I guess we
- 18:25Speaker 2: don't know. We don't know necessarily why, Like they would
- 18:29Speaker 2: this could come to mind? But I would I would
- 18:32Speaker 2: say yes. I would say yes because there's no other
- 18:38Speaker 2: explanation really for me. I know. Some people brought up
- 18:42Speaker 2: like hallucinations and all that, and I'm like, listen, like
- 18:45Speaker 2: that's what I do for a living. I can, I can,
- 18:48Speaker 2: you can discern what's allacination? What is it? So it was?
- 18:54Speaker 2: I believe it. I believe that this is a quantum
- 18:56Speaker 2: immortality and that my consciousness jumped here, is this gonna
- 19:04Speaker 2: is it? Will this happen again? And will it happen
- 19:05Speaker 2: where things are more noticeable? The differences are more noticeable.
- 19:11Speaker 2: It's funny because there's there's been changes in me since this,
- 19:18Speaker 2: things that I can't explain. I feel like I've become
- 19:23Speaker 2: a more positive and spiritual person. I don't think it's
- 19:28Speaker 2: because this happened. I actually think that this was part
- 19:34Speaker 2: of this timeline, that this was already happening. I've had
- 19:39Speaker 2: friends say something like, you know, reflecting on some beautiful
- 19:42Speaker 2: piece of advice that I gave them, and I'm like,
- 19:45Speaker 2: I said, you know, and I and I don't have
- 19:49Speaker 2: any recollection of that, And I'm like, well, shit, I'm
- 19:53Speaker 2: good like that, that's fantastic, you know. And uh, I ended
- 19:58Speaker 2: up ending my relationship where I think I looked back
- 20:05Speaker 2: on the relationship and noticed some things that were terrible
- 20:10Speaker 2: and didn't understand why I stood for them, thinking I
- 20:13Speaker 2: would never I would never do that, I would never
- 20:17Speaker 2: allow that to happen, and then ended it. But it's like, well, yeah,
- 20:20Speaker 2: maybe because this consciousness, this PAM wouldn't allow that to happen.
- 20:29Speaker 2: It's been beneficial for me if I did jump, then awesome.
- 20:38Speaker 2: I like it here. It's cool and it's been beneficial
- 20:41Speaker 2: to me here. And if there's an alternative explanation and
- 20:48Speaker 2: someone can explain this in a different way. I'm open
- 20:52Speaker 2: to that too. There's so many possibilities and I'm open
- 20:59Speaker 2: to all of them. All right.
- 21:16Speaker 3: So my name is Melissa, and right now I'm more
- 21:21Speaker 3: of a stay at home parent freelancer work at home
- 21:26Speaker 3: for a bigger company, I guess, just doing taking orders
- 21:33Speaker 3: over the phone. So back in I was in the
- 21:38Speaker 3: Army from ninety six to about two thousand and one
- 21:43Speaker 3: and I was stationed in Germany. So when I came
- 21:49Speaker 3: home from Germany, I got stationed in this little place
- 21:53Speaker 3: in Fort Wachuka, Arizona, that's in the middle of nowhere,
- 21:57Speaker 3: and of course I had no car, so I had
- 22:00Speaker 3: to take a Greyhound to come see my mom in Colorado,
- 22:06Speaker 3: which is where I currently live now that I'm out
- 22:09Speaker 3: of the military, because we always tend to go back
- 22:15Speaker 3: where we're born. So she had a car for me.
- 22:18Speaker 3: It was a little Hoyndai Lantra station wagon hatchback type
- 22:23Speaker 3: of car. So I took a Greyhound because it was
- 22:27Speaker 3: hard getting to work and from where I got the
- 22:32Speaker 3: car from her, and she used to always bug me
- 22:35Speaker 3: whenever I because ever since I was even younger, and
- 22:41Speaker 3: whenever I would go anywhere. To me, it makes sense
- 22:45Speaker 3: to sleep in rest stops and or gas stations and
- 22:50Speaker 3: lighted areas. And she would always get so mad at
- 22:52Speaker 3: me because she's very much on the paranoid side, and
- 22:57Speaker 3: would tell me, no, don't do that. Thing's going to happen.
- 23:02Speaker 3: When I'm driving back to Arizona with the car I
- 23:06Speaker 3: picked up some things from her, and I'm on a
- 23:10Speaker 3: long deserted stretch of highway on the I twenty five,
- 23:17Speaker 3: and there were no of course, no lights on the
- 23:20Speaker 3: side of the road, very little traffic, and it's late
- 23:24Speaker 3: at night. At that time, I was much younger, so
- 23:27Speaker 3: I preferred driving at night and out of traffic. This
- 23:34Speaker 3: car comes up behind me. I'd been driving for maybe
- 23:38Speaker 3: three hours or so already. This truck comes up behind
- 23:42Speaker 3: me and it's flashing as lights and honking his horn,
- 23:45Speaker 3: and I started to get kind of paranoid. I don't know,
- 23:48Speaker 3: when you're driving by yourself late at night, you start
- 23:54Speaker 3: to think, huh, what if there's somebody hiding in my car.
- 23:58Speaker 3: I don't know my mom's pair and Noia rubbed off
- 24:01Speaker 3: on me. So when he was flashing his lights and
- 24:05Speaker 3: honking his horn. I thought that there was something wrong
- 24:07Speaker 3: with my car, or maybe I didn't shut the hatchback
- 24:11Speaker 3: ride all the way, just something was wrong. Why else
- 24:17Speaker 3: would somebody be honking the horn and flashing their lights
- 24:21Speaker 3: at you. I pull over and he pulls up really
- 24:27Speaker 3: close behind me, and I get out of my car
- 24:30Speaker 3: to kind of start going towards the back and I'm
- 24:34Speaker 3: probably about the middle of the car and he was
- 24:36Speaker 3: still honking his horn and flashing his lights at me.
- 24:41Speaker 3: That was kind of when it clicked in my head
- 24:44Speaker 3: that wait a minute, why is he still honking and
- 24:49Speaker 3: flashing at me? I'm already out of my car. So
- 24:52Speaker 3: I got back in my car and started driving because
- 24:56Speaker 3: it just didn't make sense. My gut told me, wait
- 24:59Speaker 3: a minute, he he is still doing this and would
- 25:03Speaker 3: have no reason to while I'm already out of my car.
- 25:08Speaker 3: I had to drive another forty five minutes or so
- 25:12Speaker 3: before I came up onto an exit off of the highway.
- 25:17Speaker 3: I saw some light splashing, so I was like, oh, perfect,
- 25:21Speaker 3: and I pulled into this little shopping complex. It was
- 25:25Speaker 3: like right in front of a laundry mat, and there
- 25:28Speaker 3: was a safe way, so I pulled there, and of
- 25:33Speaker 3: course this was back in two thousand early two thousand
- 25:38Speaker 3: and one, so cell phones were not a popular thing.
- 25:43Speaker 3: It was still pay phones back then. This guy in
- 25:48Speaker 3: his truck stayed at the back of the parking lot
- 25:54Speaker 3: in the grocery store while I was in front of
- 25:56Speaker 3: the laundry mat, and I was parked kind of close
- 25:59Speaker 3: to the ambulance that was there to help someone at
- 26:04Speaker 3: the laundromat. I guess, and in my mind, I'm thinking, Okay,
- 26:09Speaker 3: if there's an ambulance here, there's hopefully a police officer
- 26:13Speaker 3: to follow. And I waited there for like an hour
- 26:18Speaker 3: and no police officers came, ambulance left. I didn't feel comfortable,
- 26:25Speaker 3: I guess, going up to somebody and saying, hey, this
- 26:31Speaker 3: guy has been following me. I felt kind of stupid
- 26:35Speaker 3: about it. So I just sat there waiting right in
- 26:40Speaker 3: front of the laundrymat where it was very lit, and
- 26:44Speaker 3: he just stayed in his truck watching me. And it
- 26:50Speaker 3: was a good hour or more before he finally left.
- 26:53Speaker 3: And so once he left, I felt comfortable to just
- 26:58Speaker 3: go ahead and can continue my trip home. And he
- 27:04Speaker 3: stayed pretty close behind me that whole time, and he
- 27:09Speaker 3: flashed his lights. Still A couple of times and did
- 27:12Speaker 3: a couple of honks, but not nearly as aggressive as
- 27:16Speaker 3: he had when I had pulled over the first time.
- 27:20Speaker 3: Stayed in the parking lot, just watching to see what
- 27:24Speaker 3: I would do. So I was afraid to get out
- 27:27Speaker 3: of the car. I didn't want to, and I felt
- 27:32Speaker 3: kind of stupid. I didn't want to approach anybody and say, hey,
- 27:35Speaker 3: this guy's following me. So after he finally got tired
- 27:40Speaker 3: of sitting there and he finally left, I finished my
- 27:46Speaker 3: finished my long drive home, and I got home, and
- 27:49Speaker 3: before I got to Arizona, I got to a gas station,
- 27:54Speaker 3: probably a good hour or more away, And at that
- 27:59Speaker 3: time I felt comfortable because it was a bigger city.
- 28:03Speaker 3: I felt comfortable stopping at the gas station and checking
- 28:07Speaker 3: around my car and making sure that there was nothing
- 28:11Speaker 3: wrong with my car, and double checking the hatch in
- 28:15Speaker 3: the back to make sure it was closed all the
- 28:17Speaker 3: way there definitely wasn't anything wrong with my car. Told
- 28:25Speaker 3: he was my boyfriend at the time, told him what happened,
- 28:28Speaker 3: and he was a little upset because one I went
- 28:33Speaker 3: by myself and he hadn't wanted me to go by myself,
- 28:37Speaker 3: but he couldn't come with me.
- 28:40Speaker 2: He was a little.
- 28:41Speaker 3: Upset, and he was upset that I didn't call the
- 28:45Speaker 3: police and let them know, which is understandable. I probably
- 28:50Speaker 3: should have done that, and I'm not sure why I didn't.
- 28:54Speaker 3: Besides the fact that I didn't get his license plate,
- 28:57Speaker 3: all I knew was a, you know, a vague description
- 29:01Speaker 3: of his truck. I didn't know what kind of truck
- 29:04Speaker 3: it was, and I didn't want to get closer to
- 29:08Speaker 3: his truck in the parking lot to get that information.
- 29:13Speaker 3: So I felt like I didn't have enough information or
- 29:17Speaker 3: to say that he even did anything wrong, except for, hey,
- 29:20Speaker 3: this guy was following me and being weird. That probably
- 29:24Speaker 3: wouldn't have done much. So quite a few years later,
- 29:29Speaker 3: my then boyfriend we were married. We were fans of
- 29:34Speaker 3: those types of shows like Unsolved Mysteries, Forensic Files, those
- 29:40Speaker 3: kinds of things. But I'm pretty sure it had to
- 29:42Speaker 3: have been Unsolved Mysteries because it was something where it
- 29:47Speaker 3: showed a picture of a woman and they described that
- 29:52Speaker 3: this woman who had been found murdered on the side
- 29:55Speaker 3: of the road. The way they think that she would
- 30:00Speaker 3: have stopped on the side of the highway was because
- 30:04Speaker 3: they had a description of this truck that came up
- 30:07Speaker 3: behind her and was honking the horn and flashing his lights,
- 30:12Speaker 3: and she pulled over. And they got that information, I guess,
- 30:17Speaker 3: from a witness that had seen it happen, but just
- 30:21Speaker 3: saw just that little bit and kept driving. Of course,
- 30:25Speaker 3: because they didn't know anything was wrong. They didn't, of course,
- 30:32Speaker 3: have a description of the guy. They just had a
- 30:35Speaker 3: description of the truck, so they knew that that's what
- 30:40Speaker 3: had happened, but they never did never figured out who
- 30:46Speaker 3: had killed her. It was a very scary moment that
- 30:53Speaker 3: the exact same thing happened to me, and I can
- 30:55Speaker 3: see how someone would pull over and think something was wrong.
- 31:00Speaker 3: I told my husband, I said, oh my gosh, that's
- 31:04Speaker 3: exactly what happened. Do you remember, you know, back when
- 31:07Speaker 3: we were first dating and I told you about this
- 31:10Speaker 3: and he said, oh yeah. I said, that's the same
- 31:14Speaker 3: description of the truck that was behind me. I didn't
- 31:22Speaker 3: tell my mom, of course, because she would have freaked
- 31:24Speaker 3: out and had a fit, and she likes to she's
- 31:28Speaker 3: the type she likes to say, I told you so.
- 31:32Speaker 3: I was probably about twenty four twenty five, so I
- 31:37Speaker 3: was still mid twenties and fairly naive. And when I
- 31:45Speaker 3: got out and I started walking towards the back of
- 31:49Speaker 3: the car. He was still I was about mid car,
- 31:53Speaker 3: and he was still honking in his horn and flashing
- 31:57Speaker 3: his lights. Then he got out of his true and
- 32:01Speaker 3: started walking towards me. I don't know what it was that,
- 32:06Speaker 3: just my gut was like, this just isn't right. He
- 32:10Speaker 3: was still honking his horn and flashing his lights while
- 32:14Speaker 3: I was already out of the car, So that just
- 32:17Speaker 3: didn't make sense. Usually, if you're trying to signal somebody,
- 32:22Speaker 3: you're not going to keep signaling them when you have
- 32:25Speaker 3: their attention. And it took me a minute to actually
- 32:30Speaker 3: register that. I guess I'm not sure what the reasoning
- 32:36Speaker 3: behind that was, or if he was just insistent, or
- 32:40Speaker 3: if it took me a minute to get out of
- 32:43Speaker 3: my car and so he was still trying to get
- 32:46Speaker 3: my attention. It may have been a combination of boats.
- 32:51Speaker 3: I know I stayed in my car for a good
- 32:56Speaker 3: minute or so before I got out. I think it
- 33:00Speaker 3: was more that I was expecting him to get out
- 33:03Speaker 3: of his truck and come to my car so that
- 33:06Speaker 3: I could, you know, just keep the door locked and
- 33:08Speaker 3: keep the window rolled down and see if he needed
- 33:12Speaker 3: help or if there was something wrong with my car.
- 33:15Speaker 3: He never did do that, So that's when I finally
- 33:20Speaker 3: got out of the car and he was still signaling,
- 33:24Speaker 3: and it was just that's when it clicked, wait, this
- 33:29Speaker 3: is wrong, And especially when he got out of his truck,
- 33:33Speaker 3: that's when I got back in my car and drove off.
- 33:38Speaker 3: I've since been curious and I've tried to find that episode,
- 33:44Speaker 3: but technology is a great thing, but there's also so
- 33:49Speaker 3: much information out there that I haven't been able to
- 33:53Speaker 3: find out anything further if they ever did catch the person,
- 33:59Speaker 3: or if they ever found out what happened, or if
- 34:04Speaker 3: it was more than one person that it happened to.
- 34:08Speaker 3: All I remember from the episode is the picture of
- 34:12Speaker 3: the lady standing next to her car from probably the eighties,
- 34:20Speaker 3: and so she had the curly brown hair and glasses.
- 34:28Speaker 3: And that's about all I can remember from the episode
- 34:33Speaker 3: and what happened to her, because it really struck a
- 34:37Speaker 3: chord with me since the same thing had happened. It
- 34:42Speaker 3: was so long ago that I try not to dwell
- 34:47Speaker 3: on it, but it definitely it definitely did help shape
- 34:54Speaker 3: who I am today in a way that I do
- 34:58Speaker 3: pay much more attention to my surren and I'm pay
- 35:02Speaker 3: attention to the cars around me on the highway when
- 35:07Speaker 3: I'm driving, when I'm no matter where I'm driving, I
- 35:13Speaker 3: pay a lot more attention than I used to. I
- 35:18Speaker 3: don't think his intentions were good. Young women traveling alone
- 35:23Speaker 3: is usually a target for men that well, not even
- 35:29Speaker 3: just traveling alone, young women in general can be especially
- 35:33Speaker 3: in deserted areas, can be targets for men that just
- 35:38Speaker 3: have issues. Luckily, his odd behavior, I think is what
- 35:46Speaker 3: kicked in that that got instinct to be like, wait
- 35:49Speaker 3: a minute, no, there's something not right here.
