- 1:09Speaker 1: I am a mediocre pool player. In fact, I might
- 1:13Speaker 1: not even be mediocre. But recently, my wife Peg and
- 1:17Speaker 1: I went out to a bar and decided to play pool.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I don't know how it happened. I don't know why
- 1:24Speaker 1: it happened, but for some reason, I got white hot
- 1:27Speaker 1: and played like I was Minnesota Fats in his prime.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Bank shots, sharp side pocket shots that required Joe Burrow accuracy,
- 1:37Speaker 1: you name it, I did it, and the game was
- 1:40Speaker 1: over in record time. Peg wanted a rematch. I told
- 1:44Speaker 1: her it would have to wait. I am not going
- 1:47Speaker 1: to spoil the memory of that performance for at least
- 1:51Speaker 1: another week. Now, let's get to the radio replays from
- 1:55Speaker 1: the Bengals' latest thrilling win over Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes
- 2:00Speaker 1: and the Kansas City Chiefs. Second and goal from the
- 2:02Speaker 1: Kansas City four, eight fifty four left in the first quarter,
- 2:06Speaker 1: Burrow runs a quarterback draw shoe, sacing toward the end
- 2:10Speaker 1: zone and waiting for the touchdown signal. There it is
- 2:15Speaker 1: touchdown Bengals as they go seventy five yards to begin
- 2:20Speaker 1: the game, and Joe Burrow runs it in from the
- 2:24Speaker 1: four third down and eight from the Kansas City twelve
- 2:27Speaker 1: boyd motions. He lines up in the slot to the
- 2:29Speaker 1: left with chase out wide to the left, Higgins out
- 2:32Speaker 1: to the right. Burrow throws a sling Higgins, we didn't
- 2:35Speaker 1: catch get it. He breaks the tackle, he extends the ball.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Touchdowns pangals as the Bengals score touchdowns on their first
- 2:45Speaker 1: two drives. And Gee Higgins, big strong body, full grown
- 2:51Speaker 1: man not not only does he box people out and
- 2:55Speaker 1: out jump people from the football high point the football.
- 2:57Speaker 1: It's six four two twenty pounds or so. That run
- 3:02Speaker 1: after catch was as good as you're gonna see. Mahomes
- 3:04Speaker 1: in the gun, McKinnon to his right. Three receivers in
- 3:07Speaker 1: a cluster out to the left. Mahomes catches the shotgun,
- 3:10Speaker 1: snap throws, but Kennon catches, and he runs into the
- 3:14Speaker 1: end zone for the Kansas City touchdown. Yeah, McKinnon was
- 3:17Speaker 1: wide open from jump Street Burrow under center fourth in
- 3:21Speaker 1: less than a yard fifty one seconds left and a
- 3:23Speaker 1: half p Ryan behind him, and running back Burrow touches
- 3:26Speaker 1: his helmet, Sama j p Ryan gets closer. He might
- 3:30Speaker 1: be pushing Joe Burrow here. Burrow gave it to Trent
- 3:33Speaker 1: Taylor and he's tackled for a loss. Carl Carlos Dune
- 3:38Speaker 1: Lab of all people Carlos Dunlap hits the gap and
- 3:42Speaker 1: crushes the Bengals on a goal line stand. Mahomes walks
- 3:45Speaker 1: up to the offensive line, now backs up into the shotgun.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Skymore goes in jet motion out to the right. They
- 3:51Speaker 1: handed off the checkout. He's got the first down, He's
- 3:54Speaker 1: got a touchdown, spinning his way up the middle of
- 3:57Speaker 1: the field and into the end zone for an eight
- 3:59Speaker 1: yard fourth and goal from the three. J. G. Smith
- 4:03Speaker 1: Schuster goes in motion. Mike Hilton follows him out to
- 4:05Speaker 1: the right. Mahomes back to throw pump fakes, running up
- 4:09Speaker 1: the middle of the field, leaps forward, loses the ball
- 4:12Speaker 1: into the end zone already what they call it touchdown.
- 4:16Speaker 1: He had held the ball over the goal line before
- 4:19Speaker 1: it was punched free and it's a touchdown for Kansas City.
- 4:22Speaker 1: Mahomes waiting for the shotgun snap, he catches, He looks,
- 4:27Speaker 1: He throws his sidearm throw caught over the middle. Jermaine
- 4:30Speaker 1: Pratts will bring down Travis Gusley. The ball comes out.
- 4:34Speaker 1: The Bengals have it yes head midfield. Jamar chases in
- 4:38Speaker 1: the backfield next to Burrow. Burrow wants to throw short
- 4:42Speaker 1: pass caught at the five, Chris Evans into the end zone,
- 4:46Speaker 1: touchdown Bengals. Cincinnati takes the lead with eight fifty four
- 4:52Speaker 1: to go. The play clock is at four. Mahomes is ready,
- 4:56Speaker 1: stomps the right foot, catches the shotgun. Snap, here comes
- 4:59Speaker 1: the uh Mahomes wringing his tackle. He sacked brought down
- 5:05Speaker 1: by Joseph Osai at the thirty six. It's fourth and six.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Will the Chiefs go for the long field goal? He'd
- 5:13Speaker 1: be about a fifty four yard or if they do,
- 5:15Speaker 1: he and they will from fifty five yards away, trying
- 5:19Speaker 1: to tie it low snap handled, The kick is on
- 5:21Speaker 1: its way. No no get, no good. He missed it,
- 5:27Speaker 1: and the Bengals will get the ball at their own
- 5:29Speaker 1: forty five with three nineteen to go. Listen to the
- 5:34Speaker 1: crowd here at pay Course Stadium. Burs in the shotgun.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Two receivers left, one out to the right. Zach Taylor
- 5:40Speaker 1: jesting wildly to get Tyler Boyd to go in motion.
- 5:43Speaker 1: He does. Burrow drops back to throw, wants to throw
- 5:46Speaker 1: his pass over the pool. His car by tea heading
- 5:51Speaker 1: in traffic at the fourteen, and that his coffin nail
- 5:57Speaker 1: damn bam. Joshua Williams. Welcome to the National Football League.
- 6:03Speaker 1: You had great coverage by man, but Tee Haggins was
- 6:06Speaker 1: just better and Joe Burrow through him a perfect ball.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Tee Haggins makes the play. And as for the play
- 6:13Speaker 1: call by Zach Taylor, in the words of Bill Raftery onion, Yeah, gutsie.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Whoa gutsie to say the least, of course, it's much
- 6:23Speaker 1: easier to make gutsie play calls when they are being
- 6:25Speaker 1: executed by Joe Burrow. The Bengals quarterback, who turns twenty
- 6:30Speaker 1: six next Saturday, went twenty five for thirty one that's
- 6:33Speaker 1: eighty one percent for two hundred and eighty six yards,
- 6:37Speaker 1: with two touchdown passes, no interceptions, and a passer rating
- 6:41Speaker 1: of one twenty six point six. He also ran for
- 6:45Speaker 1: forty six yards and a touchdown. His favorite target was
- 6:49Speaker 1: Jamar Chase. After missing four games with a hairline hip fracture,
- 6:54Speaker 1: Chase had seven catches for ninety seven yards and talked
- 6:57Speaker 1: to Dave Lapham after the game. Jamar Chase, He's back.
- 7:03Speaker 1: So what was it like out there? Man? Take us
- 7:06Speaker 1: through it? How was your conditioning? I mean, I know
- 7:08Speaker 1: you're shaped like crazy. Oh my god, yo yo, I
- 7:14Speaker 1: was so tired all that dog. It was good to
- 7:17Speaker 1: be back, don't you know what I'm saying? Um t
- 7:20Speaker 1: I and Stan was doing a good job of getting
- 7:21Speaker 1: me out of the game when they see me tired.
- 7:23Speaker 1: And Zach was doing a good job on the play
- 7:24Speaker 1: calls and stuff too, so it was all around good. Yeah.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I mean I figured, you know, because they told you, look,
- 7:30Speaker 1: don't do anything, you know, get off of it, don't so,
- 7:32Speaker 1: I mean, you go from like nothing to one hundred
- 7:35Speaker 1: miles an hour. It's like, man, that's a that's a
- 7:37Speaker 1: big shock to anybody's system. But you're a genetic Creek man.
- 7:39Speaker 1: For you to be able to call out and play
- 7:41Speaker 1: like you did tonight with all the time that you talk,
- 7:44Speaker 1: that's just unbelievable. Where does all this ability come from?
- 7:49Speaker 1: I really don't know, man, I was so excited to
- 7:50Speaker 1: come back today. I just I was really trying to
- 7:54Speaker 1: hold all my energy, and that's probably what happened. You know.
- 7:56Speaker 1: If I'd been too excited to play this game out
- 7:57Speaker 1: of wasted all my energy being a pregame and locker
- 8:00Speaker 1: room celebrating, then you know, I probably would have had
- 8:02Speaker 1: that game. But I had saved all my energy for
- 8:04Speaker 1: this game. So Somaje goes for over one hundred rushing,
- 8:08Speaker 1: you almost get one hundred receiving. I think that's balanced.
- 8:11Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's what you need to do to
- 8:12Speaker 1: beat good football teams. You guys have beaten the Kansas
- 8:15Speaker 1: City Chiefs three times in less than one calendar year.
- 8:18Speaker 1: What yeah, I mean, we're just doing a good job
- 8:21Speaker 1: of executing at the right time, and and we gotta
- 8:23Speaker 1: win a game in a full quarter. I guess the
- 8:25Speaker 1: Chiefs it's it's unbelievable. And every game comes down to
- 8:30Speaker 1: you know, it's like a three point game. It's like
- 8:33Speaker 1: making a play or not making a play. That's what
- 8:35Speaker 1: it comes down to. Who asked the ball lasting who
- 8:37Speaker 1: makes a play exactly. And we did a good job
- 8:39Speaker 1: at that today. Me getting the first down, Somaja getting
- 8:42Speaker 1: another first down, to Tea getting another first down. So
- 8:44Speaker 1: that's constantly first down to keep the chains moving so
- 8:46Speaker 1: we can keep the ball. And when you get your
- 8:48Speaker 1: first down, Tee through a hell of a block for
- 8:50Speaker 1: you to seal the edge and get you get you
- 8:52Speaker 1: around the horn. And we talked about it many times,
- 8:54Speaker 1: just wide receiver corps, so unselfish man. They'll block for
- 8:57Speaker 1: each other. It doesn't matter who's who's getting the glory
- 8:59Speaker 1: of such. Everybody does their job right. It's funny because
- 9:02Speaker 1: T went off on me today. I never never went
- 9:04Speaker 1: off on me. So when T went off on me,
- 9:06Speaker 1: I was a little struck because I was supposed to
- 9:08Speaker 1: stay and falling bounds on a two minute drill and
- 9:10Speaker 1: T looked at me and started going off. I didn't.
- 9:12Speaker 1: I didn't expect him to do that. So that me.
- 9:14Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying, he caring and who wants
- 9:16Speaker 1: me to do the right thing? And I need somebody
- 9:18Speaker 1: to be on me like that. So good teammates, Well,
- 9:20Speaker 1: it's good to have you back. Good to have number
- 9:22Speaker 1: one back. And uh one final question. When you guys
- 9:25Speaker 1: come off the football field and their mixing coverages up
- 9:28Speaker 1: like that, who do you talk to? Do you talk
- 9:30Speaker 1: to the receiver coach? Do you talk to Joe who
- 9:33Speaker 1: gathers all the information the consensus to make the proper adjustments.
- 9:37Speaker 1: We talked to everybody pretty much, you know. We talked
- 9:39Speaker 1: to Troll, we talked to Joe, and we talked to
- 9:41Speaker 1: Zach sometimes. So like, I mean, everyone's gonna input on
- 9:44Speaker 1: what's going on. We don't want to just tell one person,
- 9:45Speaker 1: so we gotta be on the same page out there.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Appreciate you, thank you, welcome back, Appreciate it. Jason was back,
- 9:51Speaker 1: but Joe Mixon wasn't. He missed the second straight game
- 9:55Speaker 1: after failing to clear concussion protocol. Awesome. I J P.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Ryan did. Was carried twenty one times for one hundred
- 10:02Speaker 1: six yards and catch six passes for forty nine more.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Here's Joe Burrow on p Rhyan. I'm so happy that
- 10:09Speaker 1: he's taken this opportunity and done what he's done with
- 10:13Speaker 1: it because he's one of those guys that you love
- 10:16Speaker 1: being around, love being around every single day brings a
- 10:18Speaker 1: juice so consistent, day in and day out. He's going
- 10:23Speaker 1: to get you two or three if there's nothing there,
- 10:25Speaker 1: and that's that's valuable. Sabaj's one hundred yard rushing performance
- 10:30Speaker 1: was the third of his NFL career and his first
- 10:34Speaker 1: in a Bengals uniform. The Bengals Booth Podcast is presented
- 10:37Speaker 1: by Kettering Health, the official healthcare provider of the Bengals,
- 10:41Speaker 1: with more than one hundred twenty care facilities and fifteen
- 10:44Speaker 1: hundred care providers Kettering Health is committed to guiding you
- 10:49Speaker 1: to your best health. Visit Kettering health dot org to
- 10:53Speaker 1: learn more. The Bengals made two huge defensive plays in
- 10:57Speaker 1: the fourth quarter that made their win possible. Bow First,
- 11:01Speaker 1: Jermaine Pratt ripped the ball away from Travis Kelsey and
- 11:04Speaker 1: then recovered the fumble with the Bengals trailing by four,
- 11:07Speaker 1: The offense capitalized with a fifty three yard touchdown drive
- 11:11Speaker 1: and took the lead for good on Burrow's touchdown pass
- 11:14Speaker 1: to Chris Evans. And then, after Kansas City drove to
- 11:18Speaker 1: the Bengals thirty three with less than four minutes to go,
- 11:21Speaker 1: Joseph Osi sack Mahomes on third down in three and
- 11:25Speaker 1: the Chiefs missed a fifty five yard game tying field
- 11:29Speaker 1: goal attempt on the next play. Kansas City never got
- 11:33Speaker 1: the ball back. I caught up with Osai in front
- 11:37Speaker 1: of his locker. It was it was scary for a second,
- 11:40Speaker 1: because you know, I knew we had a spy player,
- 11:44Speaker 1: So I knew I had inside or outside go, so
- 11:48Speaker 1: I took. I chose to take inside, but he got
- 11:50Speaker 1: away from me. And you know he's so dangerous when
- 11:52Speaker 1: he breaks pocket. You know he can he can throw
- 11:54Speaker 1: from multiple different angles. So I was just trying to
- 11:56Speaker 1: get him, get him back and get him back and
- 11:58Speaker 1: saying get him on the ground just such as possible.
- 12:00Speaker 1: So a little bit scary, but I'm glad I've never
- 12:03Speaker 1: gonna get it done. So cam sample is two lockers
- 12:05Speaker 1: over to the left. He said, ask you about the celebration. Yeah,
- 12:10Speaker 1: the first, the first one with the falcons. I went
- 12:12Speaker 1: too crazy and then they were all me about it
- 12:15Speaker 1: in meetings. You know, it was kind of funny. So
- 12:17Speaker 1: I just overcorrected and I just turned around and hug
- 12:20Speaker 1: my guy so that they thought that was funny. But
- 12:22Speaker 1: you know what I mean, it's it's all as so
- 12:24Speaker 1: a part of the game. To beat this team three
- 12:26Speaker 1: times in this calendar year. What's that mean? It means
- 12:31Speaker 1: it means we believe what we say. You know what
- 12:33Speaker 1: I mean. They gotta play us, and um, we're gonna
- 12:36Speaker 1: keep going. We're gonna keep stepping and one win at
- 12:39Speaker 1: a time, woman at a time is behind us. Now
- 12:42Speaker 1: next game. Jermaine Pratt makes a point at practice to
- 12:46Speaker 1: always talk about how it's about the ball. You gotta
- 12:48Speaker 1: for us, turnovers, etc. It's fitting a strip and to
- 12:52Speaker 1: recovery for share A big money pee, that's what we
- 12:54Speaker 1: call him. So he came up, Hugh Shore us. We
- 12:56Speaker 1: needed that, we needed that stop, and not only did
- 12:58Speaker 1: he get the stop, but he's the ball away as well,
- 13:01Speaker 1: so so we could have great feel position and we
- 13:03Speaker 1: went on too. I think we went on to put
- 13:04Speaker 1: up points on that on that drive. So um, big
- 13:07Speaker 1: play for us. He's a big key to our defense
- 13:10Speaker 1: and we're lucky to have him. Where are you guys
- 13:12Speaker 1: verbalizing it? Were you saying we need a takeaway? Of
- 13:15Speaker 1: course we always we always say that we always need
- 13:17Speaker 1: to take away every drive, either either three and out
- 13:20Speaker 1: or we need to take away. So you know what
- 13:22Speaker 1: I mean. It is what it is. No team had
- 13:24Speaker 1: beaten Patrick Mahomes three times in a row in his
- 13:26Speaker 1: NFL career. I don't know if you're aware of that.
- 13:28Speaker 1: It doesn't sound like it. Uh, what what does that
- 13:31Speaker 1: mean to you? I wasn't. I wasn't here for the
- 13:35Speaker 1: first two, so you have to ask someone else. But
- 13:36Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure it's it's exciting to them. He's a
- 13:39Speaker 1: great player, possible, definitely a Hall of Famer. So I'm
- 13:42Speaker 1: pretty sure everybody who was part of the team that
- 13:44Speaker 1: did that. It's gonna be happy about that for sure.
- 13:46Speaker 1: You were here for number three and made a big play. Congratulationship,
- 13:49Speaker 1: I thank you. I want to share one more postgame interview.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Midway through the third quarter, with the Bengals trailing by three,
- 13:56Speaker 1: Tyler Boy dropped an easy eight yard touchdown pass. In
- 14:02Speaker 1: his seven years with the Bengals, do you ever remember
- 14:05Speaker 1: Tyler Boy dropping a sure touchdown? I don't. It doesn't
- 14:10Speaker 1: sting nearly as much when your team pulls out the win. Tyler, Congratulations,
- 14:16Speaker 1: a phenomenal win. You guys beat the Chiefs three times
- 14:19Speaker 1: in the calendar year of twenty twenty two. Nobody has
- 14:22Speaker 1: ever beaten Mahomes three times in a row. How satisfying
- 14:26Speaker 1: is this win? I mean, at the end of the day,
- 14:28Speaker 1: we have a great team. You know, we play collectively
- 14:30Speaker 1: as a whole, and we take opportunity, we take advantage
- 14:32Speaker 1: of opportunities, and uh, we're gonna continue to play like
- 14:35Speaker 1: that because we're a force to be reckoning with. I'm
- 14:38Speaker 1: sure you're bummed about dropping that possible touchdown pass. You
- 14:42Speaker 1: had the most targets of any player in the league
- 14:45Speaker 1: last year without a single drop, so we know it
- 14:47Speaker 1: almost never happens. Did it hit you in the helmet? Yeah? Man,
- 14:50Speaker 1: I was just too relaxed when to play, you know,
- 14:52Speaker 1: I usually just go go go catch it, and it
- 14:54Speaker 1: just it got to me. It kind of got away
- 14:56Speaker 1: from it hit me to face the mass. I didn't
- 14:58Speaker 1: even touch my hands, So I was got to tighten
- 15:00Speaker 1: up and just just always booked the ball in. Cousin
- 15:03Speaker 1: hurt nearly as badly when the team pulls out the
- 15:05Speaker 1: victory and you had some big catches in the in
- 15:08Speaker 1: the win as well. Absolutely, you know this is a
- 15:10Speaker 1: big win. You know, it's a message. You're a statement,
- 15:12Speaker 1: you know, not for us, but for everybody out there
- 15:14Speaker 1: and not not believing in us, you know, because we
- 15:16Speaker 1: still got the team and we still got the potential
- 15:18Speaker 1: in the talent to go where we last left off
- 15:21Speaker 1: last or so. I mean, it's a great win, but
- 15:23Speaker 1: we got to win these conference games, the division games,
- 15:26Speaker 1: and continue to roll. Right after the two minute warning,
- 15:29Speaker 1: it's third and long. Everybody's wondering to your run and
- 15:32Speaker 1: try to kill the clock or do you try to
- 15:34Speaker 1: throw a pass to basically end the game. I don't
- 15:37Speaker 1: know if t was open, Joe somehow threaded the needle
- 15:41Speaker 1: team made the catch. What were your thoughts on that play? Yeah,
- 15:44Speaker 1: I think it could have win either or you know,
- 15:45Speaker 1: so Marga was toting the ball right, but it was
- 15:48Speaker 1: third and ten, So Zach, trust the guys we got.
- 15:52Speaker 1: We got the best receivers in the league, and we
- 15:54Speaker 1: got the best quarterback in the league. So let me
- 15:55Speaker 1: put the ball in our hands. You guys have kind
- 15:57Speaker 1: of had this mantra lately. They've got to play us.
- 16:02Speaker 1: I think the league is recognizing that you better include
- 16:04Speaker 1: Cincinnati on the list when talking about the best teams
- 16:07Speaker 1: in the league. Absolutely, you know, um, even though we
- 16:10Speaker 1: got to arguably to probably the best with the toughest
- 16:12Speaker 1: schedule in the league, we don't care about that because
- 16:14Speaker 1: we are the toughest team in the league. I saw
- 16:17Speaker 1: we prechare ourself, you know. But at the end of
- 16:19Speaker 1: the day, like I continue to say, we go out
- 16:20Speaker 1: there and I'll execute the teams and continue to play
- 16:22Speaker 1: polish and play poison, play fundamental football, and then we'll
- 16:25Speaker 1: always continue to be on top. It's a great receiving
- 16:28Speaker 1: group and you're the guy that leads it. Congrats on
- 16:30Speaker 1: the win, Appreciate you. The Bengals move podcast is brought

- 16:45Speaker 1: the Bengals remain in a tie for first in the
- 16:47Speaker 1: AFC North with Baltimore. The Ravens eked out a ten
- 16:50Speaker 1: nine win over Denver on Sunday after Lamar Jackson exited
- 16:55Speaker 1: with a knee injury. Baltimore says it's not season ending,
- 16:59Speaker 1: but it sounds like Jackson could miss some time. The
- 17:03Speaker 1: Ravens next two games are on the road in the division,
- 17:07Speaker 1: at Pittsburgh next week and at Cleveland the following week.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Now time for this week's radio guys recap la. We
- 17:17Speaker 1: love our jobs, but some days are better than others.
- 17:20Speaker 1: And that was about as fun as it gets. What
- 17:22Speaker 1: a game. Another classic between the Bengals and the Chiefs.
- 17:25Speaker 1: And I'm still processing the fact that they beat that
- 17:28Speaker 1: team three times in one calendar year by a total
- 17:31Speaker 1: of nine points, three times by three point victories. It's
- 17:37Speaker 1: really quite incredible. I mean, when you look at this one,
- 17:40Speaker 1: No Joe Barrow does this thing. Throws for two hundred
- 17:43Speaker 1: and eighty six yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions, quarterback rating
- 17:47Speaker 1: one twenty six plus. Pete Rhyin goes for one hundred
- 17:49Speaker 1: and six on twenty one carries five yards of carry,
- 17:51Speaker 1: and then Jamar Chase comes back seven catches on eight
- 17:54Speaker 1: targets for ninety seven yards almost fourteen per with a
- 17:57Speaker 1: long of forty. I mean they're balanced. They're difficult to
- 18:01Speaker 1: deal with when when you've got all of that and
- 18:03Speaker 1: the opposite side of it. I mean, they shut down Kelsey,
- 18:06Speaker 1: that was the big thing. He was the second leading
- 18:10Speaker 1: receiver with fifty six yards. Valdo Scanning had seventy one.
- 18:14Speaker 1: I mean, but I mean they Mahomes didn't throw three
- 18:18Speaker 1: hundred yards. The Bengals have still to give up a
- 18:20Speaker 1: three hundred yard passing day. Mahomes had six in a
- 18:23Speaker 1: row coming into this football game. It's just a complete
- 18:27Speaker 1: team effort. Again, offense, defense, special teams. Everybody contributed, and
- 18:31Speaker 1: when you're playing against a team as good as the
- 18:33Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs, everybody does have to contribute. You have
- 18:35Speaker 1: to play a complete game. There's no doubt. Let's talk
- 18:39Speaker 1: about the coffin nails moment after the two minute warning.
- 18:42Speaker 1: What was better the throw, the catch or the call
- 18:46Speaker 1: by Zach Taylor, all of it. Man. I mean, you know,
- 18:50Speaker 1: this team has what I think is a quiet confidence.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I think they're extremely confident, but there's not a lot
- 18:57Speaker 1: of trash talk and all that sort of thing. And
- 19:00Speaker 1: I think they handle, you know, their confidence in a
- 19:03Speaker 1: very very likable way, except for opponents obviously, but I mean,
- 19:08Speaker 1: I think that they handle that so well. And for
- 19:11Speaker 1: Zach to go for the win, you know, to go
- 19:13Speaker 1: for the throat right there, you know, and it's over,
- 19:16Speaker 1: and then have the confidence that his quarterback will make
- 19:19Speaker 1: the right play, and then the receiver on the on
- 19:22Speaker 1: the other end of it will will as well as
- 19:24Speaker 1: big I mean, but I'll tell you a big thing
- 19:27Speaker 1: in that football game, Trey Henderson checks out, he taps out,
- 19:31Speaker 1: he's tired. Incomes Joseph Asai and he's going against Orlando
- 19:35Speaker 1: Zeus Brown, a hell of a player, beats him right
- 19:37Speaker 1: away inside, you know, fresh legs, fresh off the bench,
- 19:40Speaker 1: and he just he motored man and uh and he
- 19:43Speaker 1: got He got Mahomes to step up in the pocket
- 19:45Speaker 1: and retrace the steps, took us his feet out from
- 19:47Speaker 1: under him and got that quarterback sack which led to
- 19:50Speaker 1: the fifty five yard field goal, which was wide right.
- 19:54Speaker 1: I mean, that's we're talking about roster depth. We've talked
- 19:58Speaker 1: about it, you know, with Joe Mixon down, with Jamar
- 20:00Speaker 1: chased down, and even when guys aren't down, the fact
- 20:03Speaker 1: that you can roll people in and have confidence rolling
- 20:07Speaker 1: a bunch of guys in and Osi made a huge,
- 20:10Speaker 1: huge play, no question. I'll tell you who's really happy,
- 20:13Speaker 1: Tyler Boyd. He doesn't have to, you know, feel guilty
- 20:17Speaker 1: for the first drop of the year, or one of
- 20:20Speaker 1: the very few drops he's had in several years hit
- 20:22Speaker 1: him in the head, is that right? Yeah, it hit
- 20:24Speaker 1: him in the face mask. I didn't look like it
- 20:26Speaker 1: hit him in both hands though, too. It grazed off
- 20:28Speaker 1: his face mask. So I mean to me, I guess
- 20:31Speaker 1: he just didn't judge it right because it wasn't that difficult.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I mean, he never really found it properly. I guess
- 20:36Speaker 1: I'm thinking board he'd take your eyes off it. No,
- 20:38Speaker 1: not if it hit you in the face mask, your
- 20:40Speaker 1: eyes are right there. I guess it just got up
- 20:42Speaker 1: on him faster than he expected because you couldn't find it. Yeah,
- 20:45Speaker 1: it just didn't concentrate as well. As they normally would,
- 20:48Speaker 1: and you know, put his hands up there and goes
- 20:50Speaker 1: right through and hit him in the head. Unbelievable. That's
- 20:54Speaker 1: crazy because I mean, if there's one guy that Joe
- 20:57Speaker 1: Burrow would feel confident throwing the ball to one hundred
- 20:59Speaker 1: times lot of one hundred, it would be Tyler Boyd
- 21:02Speaker 1: in a in a big play situation like that. But
- 21:04Speaker 1: you know, credit credit the Bengals. They had some miscues.
- 21:07Speaker 1: I mean on the big play by Carlos Dunlap, nobody
- 21:11Speaker 1: had an assignment error. He's unblocked, he's left unblocked. They're
- 21:14Speaker 1: optioning off of him, and usually the defensive end when
- 21:18Speaker 1: he's on block like that at that spot in the
- 21:19Speaker 1: goal line, he's just you know, unsure it should I close?
- 21:23Speaker 1: It is a run, you know what is this? And
- 21:26Speaker 1: he just decided, you know, he's on accounted for up
- 21:29Speaker 1: the field. He comes and he won. He won. He
- 21:31Speaker 1: guess right, If there's anything, if there's anybody that would
- 21:35Speaker 1: do anything to avoid contact, though initially it would be
- 21:39Speaker 1: Carlos and ripping up the football field is probably you know,
- 21:43Speaker 1: he took a chance, he rolled the dice to make
- 21:44Speaker 1: a big play, and if he had guess wrong, he
- 21:47Speaker 1: would have looked. He would have been a goat. He
- 21:48Speaker 1: guess right, and he was a hero for that, for
- 21:51Speaker 1: that particular play. But if head gutting around him, they
- 21:54Speaker 1: walk into the end zone. But he uh, he made
- 21:58Speaker 1: a decision that turned out to be the own decision
- 22:00Speaker 1: that would have blown that play up, and he made it.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes came into the game with a career passer
- 22:06Speaker 1: rating of one oh five point seven, best in NFL history.
- 22:09Speaker 1: One of the interesting things about it. His regular season
- 22:12Speaker 1: passer rating is one oh five point seven. His postseason
- 22:15Speaker 1: passer rating is one oh five point seven. The guy's unbelievable.
- 22:18Speaker 1: The Bengals held him a little below that today at
- 22:21Speaker 1: ninety eight point two. Joe Burrow outplayed him twenty five
- 22:24Speaker 1: for thirty one two hundred and eighty six yards, two touchdowns,
- 22:27Speaker 1: no picks, passer rating of one twenty six point six,
- 22:30Speaker 1: ran for more than forty yards, ran for a touchdown.
- 22:34Speaker 1: We said it earlier in the week, when you take
- 22:36Speaker 1: on the Chiefs, your quarterback doesn't necessarily have to have
- 22:38Speaker 1: better stats, but he's got to match him to a
- 22:41Speaker 1: certain degree, and Burrow legitimately outplayed him. He did and
- 22:44Speaker 1: he's done it three straight times. I mean he's been
- 22:47Speaker 1: the victor in terms of not only the team winning
- 22:51Speaker 1: the football game, but him matching up with a great
- 22:54Speaker 1: quarterback equaling that effort or exceeding that effort. That's hard
- 22:58Speaker 1: to do three times in less than a calendar year
- 23:01Speaker 1: or so. Hats off to Joe Burrow. I mean, the
- 23:03Speaker 1: way he his poise is spectacular, There's there's no question
- 23:10Speaker 1: about it. And his patience is sometimes you have to
- 23:13Speaker 1: have a hurried patience, and I know that sounds contrarian,
- 23:18Speaker 1: but you can't be overly patient. He has just enough
- 23:22Speaker 1: patience where he takes it to the last instant and
- 23:25Speaker 1: then makes the perfect decision at the last instant. It's incredible.
- 23:29Speaker 1: The way he just strings the defense. He's gonna marna
- 23:32Speaker 1: yo yo, and he strings them along as long as
- 23:34Speaker 1: he possibly can, and then a high, high, high percentage
- 23:38Speaker 1: of the time does exactly what he should do in
- 23:41Speaker 1: that situation. It is mind boggling. Jermaine Pratt leads to
- 23:45Speaker 1: the Bengals in tackles this year. He made the play
- 23:47Speaker 1: of the day defensively today, ripping it away from Travis Kelsey,
- 23:51Speaker 1: then recovering the fumble. Is Jermaine Pratt the Bengals defensive MVP.
- 23:55Speaker 1: I know we've got, you know, several games to go,
- 23:57Speaker 1: so this is not a final decision. But to this point,
- 24:01Speaker 1: is he the Bengals defensive MVP? I mean he's he
- 24:05Speaker 1: makes the flash splash plays as well as, like you said,
- 24:08Speaker 1: he's the leading tackler on the football team as well. Now,
- 24:11Speaker 1: Logan Wilson missed some time with the shoulder injury. I
- 24:14Speaker 1: would not trade that Tannemal linebackers for any really in
- 24:18Speaker 1: the National Football League. I mean, you know, the offensive
- 24:20Speaker 1: line is playing so very well together. That linebacker group
- 24:25Speaker 1: is playing so very well together, particularly those two, those
- 24:28Speaker 1: two guys leading the way. But yeah, I mean you
- 24:30Speaker 1: can make a case that Jermaine Pratt could be defensive MVP.
- 24:34Speaker 1: But what you like about this football team, you can
- 24:37Speaker 1: throw a few hats in the in the ring, you know.
- 24:39Speaker 1: I mean, it's not just one guy in a landslide
- 24:41Speaker 1: kind of thing. Everybody's doing some things and a lot
- 24:45Speaker 1: of things that are very very high level. They're they're
- 24:47Speaker 1: a fun team to watch, There's no doubt about it.
- 24:49Speaker 1: And man, they just they look adversity square in the face.
- 24:54Speaker 1: And say, bah, better luck next time. Let me follow
- 24:57Speaker 1: up on the old line. Kansas City came in fifth
- 24:59Speaker 1: in the the NFL and sacks more this year than
- 25:02Speaker 1: they had all of last year. The only sack today
- 25:04Speaker 1: was when Joe gave himself up at the two minute warning.
- 25:07Speaker 1: Chris Jones was neutralized. They had a one hundred yard rusher.
- 25:11Speaker 1: I mean the offensive line played a tremendous game today.
- 25:15Speaker 1: They did. I mean, coming into the football game the
- 25:18Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs, they were plus eighteen in the sack department.
- 25:23Speaker 1: And so they say that the Chiefs got two sacks,
- 25:27Speaker 1: the Bengals had one, so they were plus one in
- 25:29Speaker 1: that Bengals allowed one. Oh no, the Bengals were plus one.
- 25:32Speaker 1: The Chiefs allowed two, the Bengals allowed one. So the
- 25:35Speaker 1: Bengals go plus one in a situation where the Chiefs
- 25:39Speaker 1: had accumulated thirty five and given up seventeen, and they
- 25:43Speaker 1: were plus eighteen, which is, you know, third in the NFL.
- 25:46Speaker 1: So that protection pressure ratio, they were dominant in it.
- 25:50Speaker 1: And I thought that the Bengals stepped up, and I
- 25:53Speaker 1: thought the offensive line controlled line of scrimmage. You ever
- 25:56Speaker 1: running back average five yards of carry, you have a
- 25:58Speaker 1: quarterback that basically for a good part of the game,
- 26:01Speaker 1: well into the fourth quarter, they have not allowed a hit,
- 26:04Speaker 1: a quarterback hit, or a quarterback sack against that football team.
- 26:08Speaker 1: And when you look at it, I think this football
- 26:10Speaker 1: game came down to two things. The guy you had
- 26:13Speaker 1: to deal with offensive Lewis Kelsey. They neutralized them. Guy
- 26:16Speaker 1: you had to deal with defensive was Jones. They neutralized them. So,
- 26:19Speaker 1: you know, both sides from a game plan standpoint and
- 26:22Speaker 1: the execution of the game plan standpoint, they took those
- 26:25Speaker 1: two guys contributions and minimized them big time. So in
- 26:29Speaker 1: twenty twenty two, the Bengals have owned the Kansas City Chiefs. Now,
- 26:32Speaker 1: next week they've got to try to beat the team
- 26:33Speaker 1: they can't beat, the Cleveland Browns. Joe's offer against the Browns,
- 26:38Speaker 1: and he's undefeated against Patrick Mahomes. And who have the
- 26:41Speaker 1: quarterback's been with Cleveland Browns. That's the National Football League
- 26:44Speaker 1: in a nutshell, it is gray z. But this football
- 26:49Speaker 1: team's played at a much different level than they were
- 26:51Speaker 1: when they went up to Cleveland. And they were playing well,
- 26:54Speaker 1: but you know, and you have stinkers. They happen. Man,
- 26:58Speaker 1: everybody was so upset. The stinker happened on national TV
- 27:01Speaker 1: and primetime against that Cleveland Browns, of all people, knock
- 27:07Speaker 1: him the river. You couldn't knock him in the lake
- 27:09Speaker 1: up there, but knock him in the river down here. Well,
- 27:12Speaker 1: the Browns gave up a ton of money and maybe
- 27:15Speaker 1: more gets the little of their soul and making the
- 27:17Speaker 1: trade for Deshaun Watson. They gave up a ton of
- 27:19Speaker 1: draft picks as well. Now we've got the first Watson
- 27:22Speaker 1: versus Borough game coming up next Sunday. Yeah, and I
- 27:26Speaker 1: bet the speed of the game was an adjustment for Watson.
- 27:32Speaker 1: It would not surprise me if they move him out
- 27:36Speaker 1: of pocket and cut the field in half and allow
- 27:38Speaker 1: him to make easy reads to one side of the
- 27:41Speaker 1: football field instead of you know, having to look at it,
- 27:43Speaker 1: particularly the way Lou and Rumo is mixing things up
- 27:46Speaker 1: with quarterbacks that have played multiple games in the last
- 27:49Speaker 1: seven hundred days, not like, uh, you know, Watson, who's
- 27:53Speaker 1: played one game in the last seven hundred days. So
- 27:57Speaker 1: I think it's gonna be it's gonna be interesting. I
- 27:59Speaker 1: think the the pressure packages, how how they're going to
- 28:02Speaker 1: rush Watson and maybe try to make him play left
- 28:05Speaker 1: handed That's what Loui and Rumo does so well. He
- 28:08Speaker 1: makes teams play left handed. They take Kelsey away and
- 28:11Speaker 1: make him play left handed. You know, they take away
- 28:13Speaker 1: their their star player. They take away the quarterback strength
- 28:17Speaker 1: and make the quarterback play left handed. Whether it's with
- 28:20Speaker 1: his feed or his throwing arm. You have to, you know,
- 28:22Speaker 1: minimize one and make him make you beat you using
- 28:26Speaker 1: the one that's not as good. He's in a Rumo
- 28:29Speaker 1: has done an unbelievable job of putting together game plans,
- 28:33Speaker 1: and I know his players appreciate it, respect it. I
- 28:39Speaker 1: think he's the best thing since slice bread. And they
- 28:42Speaker 1: want to go out there and play hard for him,
- 28:44Speaker 1: and they certainly are. You know what I want to
- 28:46Speaker 1: do tonight, go back and watch this game again. I'm
- 28:48Speaker 1: telling you, Instant Classic. It's the third Instant Classic in
- 28:51Speaker 1: less than a calendar year against the same team. Unbelievable.
- 28:57Speaker 1: So Cleveland comes to town next week looking to beat
- 28:59Speaker 1: the bank Those for the sixth consecutive time and for
- 29:03Speaker 1: the ninth time in their last ten meetings. Deshaun Watson
- 29:06Speaker 1: made us return to the field on Sunday after sitting
- 29:09Speaker 1: out for nearly two years, and the Browns one at
- 29:12Speaker 1: Houston twenty seven to fourteen. Watson was clearly rusty. He
- 29:17Speaker 1: threw for one hundred thirty one yards with no touchdowns,
- 29:20Speaker 1: one pick, and a passer rating of fifty three point four.

- 29:40Speaker 1: for this week's fun Facts interview, where we get to
- 29:43Speaker 1: know the person under the pads. Time for some fun
- 29:47Speaker 1: facts with cornerback Alan George from Andalusia, Alabama, small town
- 29:53Speaker 1: in the southern part of the state, not too far
- 29:55Speaker 1: from the Florida line. Describe Andalusia and what it was
- 29:58Speaker 1: like growing up there. And Lousia is a very quaint city,
- 30:04Speaker 1: super small, like less than nine thousand people. Um, everybody
- 30:09Speaker 1: knows your business, whether it's good or bad. Uh. And
- 30:12Speaker 1: that could be a good or bad thing. But it's
- 30:15Speaker 1: a good place to raise kids to get like a
- 30:18Speaker 1: firm foundation. Not a lot of trouble goes on down there. Um,
- 30:21Speaker 1: So I enjoyed living there growing up. There's there's it's
- 30:25Speaker 1: a there's maybe like six to nine stops lights in
- 30:29Speaker 1: the entire city. Um. So it's just kind of like
- 30:33Speaker 1: a carefree, little little world because you're like thirty minutes
- 30:37Speaker 1: away from the nearest interstate almost so um yeah, it's
- 30:41Speaker 1: kind of like your own little world because you don't
- 30:43Speaker 1: really get to see much of the outside world unless
- 30:45Speaker 1: you intentionally try and go out. How about shopping and
- 30:48Speaker 1: stuff like that. How far did you have to go
- 30:50Speaker 1: to get good gear and things like that? Yeah, there's
- 30:53Speaker 1: like there's a couple, like we have these stores downe
- 30:56Speaker 1: are called Hibits Sports. Um, there's just like a maybe
- 30:59Speaker 1: like two two of them in the city. But other
- 31:01Speaker 1: than that, if you're gonna like go big time shopping,
- 31:05Speaker 1: as we like used to call it, you had to
- 31:07Speaker 1: go to Dothan, which is like an hour drive away,
- 31:11Speaker 1: maybe like hour fifteen. So yeah, it's it's not like
- 31:15Speaker 1: we're so secluded. We're so away, far away from everything
- 31:18Speaker 1: we're visiting with Alan George, you are a four year
- 31:20Speaker 1: starting point guard in high school. Was basketball your first love? Yeah,
- 31:24Speaker 1: yeah it was. Um, it wasn't the first ward I played,
- 31:27Speaker 1: because I played baseball. Um, but when I started playing
- 31:31Speaker 1: basketball in fifth grade. I was just looking for something
- 31:35Speaker 1: to get me out of Andalusia of sports wise, um,
- 31:38Speaker 1: and I thought basketball was my ticket. And I loved
- 31:41Speaker 1: it completely because I didn't start playing football util later,
- 31:43Speaker 1: so it literally took over my whole life. Everything I
- 31:47Speaker 1: thought was one of the ball as life kids wearing
- 31:50Speaker 1: like sleeves and headbands the class and stuff like that,
- 31:52Speaker 1: and I really thought that was like, that was gonna
- 31:55Speaker 1: be my way out, but it obviously was not. What
- 31:57Speaker 1: changed um my dad really I stopped growing um and
- 32:03Speaker 1: my dad was like, son, you're either gonna be uh,
- 32:07Speaker 1: You're either gonna be an average height um point guard
- 32:11Speaker 1: or you're gonna be a big corner. And he's like, you,
- 32:15Speaker 1: you can either stay out here and maybe maybe get
- 32:18Speaker 1: a chance to go play like community college in basketball,
- 32:21Speaker 1: or give yourself a good chance to make it pro
- 32:24Speaker 1: and in football, because that's just how the game was
- 32:27Speaker 1: changing at the time with big, bigger corners. UM. So
- 32:30Speaker 1: he kind of saw it saw to the future for
- 32:33Speaker 1: me at a young age. So I very much thanking
- 32:36Speaker 1: for that. Your dad is a wise man. We are
- 32:38Speaker 1: talking to Alan George. When did colleges start to show
- 32:41Speaker 1: an interest? Oh, that's a that's another one. Yeah, because
- 32:44Speaker 1: I didn't start playing FOOTBA until I was fifteen. Uh,
- 32:47Speaker 1: So I didn't get the typical fifteen year old star
- 32:50Speaker 1: in high school. UM, I didn't get that type of recruitment. Uh.
- 32:54Speaker 1: Because a lot of people get their their recruit or
- 32:56Speaker 1: their their offers and stuff like early junior year and
- 32:58Speaker 1: stuff like that. But I didn't get my first offer
- 33:01Speaker 1: until um second semester, like basketball season of my senior year. UM,
- 33:07Speaker 1: I was just at lunch one day and I got
- 33:09Speaker 1: a call from Jacksonville University down in Florida. And from
- 33:15Speaker 1: that point on, I literally thought I was the top
- 33:17Speaker 1: of it. I thought I was the creaming a crop
- 33:19Speaker 1: at that point, and I was my thought none. My
- 33:21Speaker 1: stuff didn't stink at all, and it was it was
- 33:24Speaker 1: just it was. It was good to be able to
- 33:26Speaker 1: get noticed because, like like I said, not that many
- 33:28Speaker 1: people ever get to make it out from sports. So
- 33:30Speaker 1: I was happy to get at least one school. So
- 33:33Speaker 1: you ultimately chose Vanderbilt playing in the SEC while also
- 33:38Speaker 1: attending one of the most prestigious academic universities in the country.
- 33:41Speaker 1: How difficult is it to balance football in class at Vandy?
- 33:46Speaker 1: It's it's by far the hardest thing I've ever done
- 33:49Speaker 1: in my entire life. Um. It's you won't ever know
- 33:53Speaker 1: how it actually is unless you are in it. Um.
- 33:57Speaker 1: And I can't even speak for like those who go
- 33:59Speaker 1: to Duke or Stanford or Northwestern and stuff like that,
- 34:02Speaker 1: but I can't imagine that there's just pretty similar to ours,
- 34:05Speaker 1: so that maybe those are the only type of people
- 34:07Speaker 1: who would really understand, because it's it truly is extremely
- 34:12Speaker 1: extremely hard for especially for you're not You're not as
- 34:17Speaker 1: as wise as you think you are whenever you're a
- 34:19Speaker 1: seventeen or eighteen year old coming in. So when you
- 34:22Speaker 1: get up there and you have to make that crazy
- 34:24Speaker 1: adjustment to time management, it's it's so so so hard.
- 34:29Speaker 1: So I I think, I think myself that I got
- 34:32Speaker 1: through it, and I think the university and my support
- 34:34Speaker 1: system for everything that helped me get through. But it's
- 34:38Speaker 1: extremely trying. And if I had to go back, like
- 34:41Speaker 1: knowing what I know now, if I went back to seventeen,
- 34:44Speaker 1: there's no way that I would I could think that
- 34:46Speaker 1: I would put myself through it because it really is
- 34:48Speaker 1: so hard and I didn't know if I was that
- 34:50Speaker 1: mentally tough to put myself through it. Honestly, let's specifically
- 34:53Speaker 1: talk about football. We've all heard the old saying what
- 34:55Speaker 1: doesn't kill you makes you stronger. When you're at Vandy
- 34:59Speaker 1: and you're playing in Alabama, LSU, Texas A, and n
- 35:02Speaker 1: et cetera on a weekly basis, how tough is that knowing,
- 35:06Speaker 1: quite honestly, going into the game that you're a long shot. Yeah,
- 35:09Speaker 1: it's it's give and take. Really. You kind of listened
- 35:13Speaker 1: to the outside crowd a little bit, and maybe some
- 35:15Speaker 1: people use that as motivation, but it's it's kind of
- 35:19Speaker 1: like a they're not playing and we are, so we
- 35:24Speaker 1: have to be the ones to change the narrative on everything.
- 35:26Speaker 1: So we take it with a tip on our shoulder.
- 35:29Speaker 1: Every game, whether we're the favorite, which might be never um,
- 35:33Speaker 1: but whether the favorite or not, we're gonna go into
- 35:36Speaker 1: the game with the utmost confidence. There's never a game
- 35:38Speaker 1: that I went into or that anybody at Vandy that
- 35:41Speaker 1: I know of went into and felt like, why are
- 35:45Speaker 1: we even playing this game? We know we're gonna lose.
- 35:46Speaker 1: We always thought that we had a great chance of winning.
- 35:49Speaker 1: We always felt prepared. UM. So we really don't take
- 35:52Speaker 1: that much outside noise, and we just kind of worry
- 35:54Speaker 1: about what we went on, what went on in the
- 35:56Speaker 1: locker room, and like our preparation, it's get or baking stronger. Yeah.
- 36:01Speaker 1: And I was telling people that here when I was
- 36:03Speaker 1: in training camp, because they like to rag on me
- 36:06Speaker 1: going to Vandy and supporting my college and I was
- 36:09Speaker 1: at the beginning of the year. I was telling them
- 36:10Speaker 1: and we were two and old and stuff like that,
- 36:12Speaker 1: and uh they were they were like, yeah, you went
- 36:15Speaker 1: to Vandy. It doesn't really matter, but it I was like,
- 36:18Speaker 1: it definitely made me stronger because going there, you don't
- 36:22Speaker 1: always get to play with extreme high level NFL prospects
- 36:26Speaker 1: that go day one and stuff like that. So whenever
- 36:29Speaker 1: you do end up making it to the other side
- 36:31Speaker 1: and you are one of the ones that gets to
- 36:33Speaker 1: go to the NFL, um it kind of I wouldn't
- 36:36Speaker 1: say it makes you more comfortable, but it definitely lightens
- 36:41Speaker 1: your load because you're not used to playing with so
- 36:44Speaker 1: much help everywhere. Um So, whenever I got up here
- 36:47Speaker 1: and I was like, dang, my d line is superior,
- 36:50Speaker 1: Like they get after the quarterback my offense. I know
- 36:52Speaker 1: if I get them the ball, they're gonna score so
- 36:55Speaker 1: it makes me, It makes doing my job a lot easier.
- 36:57Speaker 1: I feel like it gives it just gives me a
- 36:59Speaker 1: lot more confidence. So at Vanderbilt in twenty nineteen, you
- 37:02Speaker 1: faced the LSU, the team that went on to win
- 37:05Speaker 1: the national championship. Joe Burrow through six touchdown passes that day.
- 37:08Speaker 1: He did it to everybody, So don't feel bad. What
- 37:11Speaker 1: did you learn about Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase from
- 37:14Speaker 1: competing against them? I just learned they're different, And I
- 37:18Speaker 1: mean that in the way like they're like different different,
- 37:23Speaker 1: like they their preparation mentally is insane, and their chemistry
- 37:29Speaker 1: together is also just off the charts. You can't really
- 37:31Speaker 1: beat somebody once there, Once you have chemistry down, it's
- 37:34Speaker 1: really unbeatable. Honestly. Um So, I that was a day
- 37:39Speaker 1: that I took all the good things to learn from,
- 37:42Speaker 1: but I just threw the rest out because it's not
- 37:44Speaker 1: a memory that I even want to go back to.
- 37:46Speaker 1: I sometimes I just can't even think about it. Sorry
- 37:49Speaker 1: to bring it up when we're doing fun Facts with
- 37:51Speaker 1: Alan George. So in July, before you're finally you're a Vanderbilt,
- 37:55Speaker 1: you got married to a Vanderbilt cheer leader. What was
- 37:58Speaker 1: it like for the two of you to be married
- 37:59Speaker 1: as college students? Yeah, um, I mean I'm On and
- 38:03Speaker 1: Caitlin's relationship. Uh, definitely, it started spring semester my freshman
- 38:09Speaker 1: year or our freshman year, and yeah, it just blossomed
- 38:13Speaker 1: into something that we could have never imagined. It was.
- 38:16Speaker 1: We we went into it intentionally dating, and we both
- 38:20Speaker 1: date with intentions, not to just have fun or just
- 38:23Speaker 1: to have a companion and stuff like that, but it
- 38:26Speaker 1: was with the intention to marry and we and we
- 38:28Speaker 1: didn't know that. Um so it didn't come to our
- 38:31Speaker 1: surprise as a or to us. And going to Vandi
- 38:34Speaker 1: at a private university of such a tight knit community, uh,
- 38:38Speaker 1: it kind of forced us to be around each other
- 38:40Speaker 1: more and advance and grow up faster than the normal
- 38:43Speaker 1: twenty one year old. So um, I would say that
- 38:46Speaker 1: that helped accelerate our marriage, or at least the engagement process.
- 38:50Speaker 1: Uh So, a lot of people they used to like
- 38:53Speaker 1: come joke in and be like, oh, you got married
- 38:55Speaker 1: too young, You got married too young, You have no clue.
- 38:57Speaker 1: We just wait till you start living with her and
- 38:58Speaker 1: stuff like that. But we were already kind of living
- 39:01Speaker 1: to like like I know a lot of people say that,
- 39:03Speaker 1: but we were already kind of living together at Vandy,
- 39:06Speaker 1: and we were both away from our family in different states,
- 39:08Speaker 1: so we leaned on each other a lot for like
- 39:10Speaker 1: our independent nature. So it definitely helped us out. If
- 39:14Speaker 1: anybody wants to know how you pop the question, they
- 39:17Speaker 1: can watch it online. Describe how you set up kind
- 39:20Speaker 1: of a fake photo shoot and then videotaped your proposal. Yeah,
- 39:25Speaker 1: I was, Um, so we had the COVID year that happened,
- 39:29Speaker 1: and I was planning that year to propose. I knew
- 39:33Speaker 1: I was going to propose that year because I wrote
- 39:35Speaker 1: it in my notes. Um back in like twenty nineteen
- 39:38Speaker 1: that in my phone, I wrote that I was I
- 39:40Speaker 1: had to propose to her. At least I think I said,
- 39:42Speaker 1: marry her by so and so so and so and
- 39:45Speaker 1: I had a date then, But um, yeah, I was
- 39:49Speaker 1: planning to propose to her at the Mercer game. We
- 39:51Speaker 1: had Mercer to play that year, and since she's from Beaufort, Georgia,
- 39:53Speaker 1: I was like, Oh, this is a great game to
- 39:55Speaker 1: get her family and friends to come up. She won't
- 39:57Speaker 1: even suspect it. Maybe that you think they're coming up
- 39:59Speaker 1: to see their friends play at mercer or something. Um.
- 40:02Speaker 1: But I was like, dang, they just cut our schedule
- 40:06Speaker 1: and we don't have mercer anymore. We're playing a SEC
- 40:08Speaker 1: only schedule. So I just started thinking fast on my
- 40:10Speaker 1: feet and then she hit me up and she was like, hey, uh,
- 40:15Speaker 1: we aren't traveling to all the away games this year
- 40:17Speaker 1: as cheerleaders, but I want to get one more picture
- 40:20Speaker 1: with you in our uniforms, just to do like a
- 40:23Speaker 1: senior photo shoot. And I was like, okay, great. As
- 40:26Speaker 1: soon as soon as she said that, I got the
- 40:27Speaker 1: phone with her, and I was like, I started calling
- 40:29Speaker 1: all my teammates. I was trying to put it all together,
- 40:32Speaker 1: and then yeah, it just worked out that one of
- 40:34Speaker 1: my teammates he he was like starting his YouTube channel
- 40:37Speaker 1: at the time, and I was very good friends with
- 40:39Speaker 1: our photographer at Vandy and she, um, she was she
- 40:43Speaker 1: was like Andrea the other teammates. She was like, Andre,
- 40:46Speaker 1: can you um just act as if you're you're trying
- 40:49Speaker 1: to learn how to use your cameras and she just
- 40:51Speaker 1: got it for your YouTube channel. And I told Caitlin
- 40:53Speaker 1: I was I was like, she's uh. I was like,
- 40:55Speaker 1: Eric is gonna be filming us or shooting for us.
- 40:57Speaker 1: But Andre is gonna just be there trying to learn
- 41:00Speaker 1: from her. He's just like an apprentice, and she was
- 41:02Speaker 1: all in for it, and so he didn't suspect anything.
- 41:04Speaker 1: So when we got out there on the field, we
- 41:06Speaker 1: stayed the whole thing, and Erica helped out a lot,
- 41:08Speaker 1: and she told her to turn around and flip her hair,
- 41:10Speaker 1: and I was just sitting there right behind her. So
- 41:13Speaker 1: it all worked out really great. I recommend checking it out.
- 41:16Speaker 1: Easy to find on the internet if you search for
- 41:19Speaker 1: Alan George's proposal or something along those lines. Are you
- 41:22Speaker 1: a big goal setter what you just shared about writing
- 41:25Speaker 1: down that you planned to propose. Do you write down
- 41:27Speaker 1: long term goals and things like that? Yeah? I do.
- 41:31Speaker 1: I do try to live in the moment as much
- 41:33Speaker 1: as I can, but when it comes to things that
- 41:35Speaker 1: are way down the line, or I feel like they're
- 41:37Speaker 1: way down the line, I do end up trying to
- 41:40Speaker 1: trying to I'm a big list maker. I make a
- 41:42Speaker 1: lot of lists. There's so many lists on my phone,
- 41:45Speaker 1: so I do kind of chart out things, and my
- 41:47Speaker 1: wife also helps me out with that a lot. She's
- 41:49Speaker 1: a huge planner. She loved the plan so we have
- 41:52Speaker 1: like a year, like a life plan all the way
- 41:54Speaker 1: up to like twenty thirty. So just to trying to
- 41:58Speaker 1: kind of give us a base so where we're headed,
- 42:01Speaker 1: and need to introduce you to my sixteen year old son.
- 42:03Speaker 1: He could use some goal setting, trust me. So you
- 42:05Speaker 1: signed to the Bengals as a college free agent. Did
- 42:08Speaker 1: you expect to get drafted and when that didn't happen,
- 42:12Speaker 1: why did you sign with Cincinnati? Yeah? I did. Uh,
- 42:15Speaker 1: I did expect to get drafted. Um And a lot
- 42:18Speaker 1: of people might hear that as a surprise or something.
- 42:20Speaker 1: But I just believe in myself to the utmost high.
- 42:24Speaker 1: And I just when I came out, I was I
- 42:28Speaker 1: was told my coaches at Vandy like I'm doing this
- 42:31Speaker 1: for me, and you can believe in me or not.
- 42:33Speaker 1: I'm gonna bettle myself to win and if it doesn't
- 42:37Speaker 1: work out, then it doesn't work out. But there's not
- 42:39Speaker 1: gonna I'm not gonna leave any room for the what ifs,
- 42:42Speaker 1: like what if what if I didn't or what if
- 42:44Speaker 1: I did go out this year and stuff like that.
- 42:45Speaker 1: So uh yeah, I just I just fully bet it.
- 42:48Speaker 1: I bet on myself to win and come out on
- 42:50Speaker 1: top and when it didn't happen on draft day, I
- 42:52Speaker 1: had all my friends there, um big room and the
- 42:56Speaker 1: top of my apartment complex, and it was just like
- 42:59Speaker 1: it was probably one of the most sad days of
- 43:01Speaker 1: my life. Um because I just I, like I said,
- 43:04Speaker 1: I fully invested in myself and my wife did also,
- 43:06Speaker 1: and we were all the way up and then when
- 43:09Speaker 1: no one called, um because I talked to like seventeen
- 43:13Speaker 1: sixteen teams all leading up to draft day. People are
- 43:15Speaker 1: asking for my numbers and stuff like that so they
- 43:17Speaker 1: can reach me. Uh, and then none of them ended
- 43:20Speaker 1: up contacting me and my agent. So I just I
- 43:22Speaker 1: kind of just my dad said, I held it together
- 43:25Speaker 1: really well because I didn't. I didn't really show a
- 43:27Speaker 1: chink in the armor at all, but inside I was
- 43:29Speaker 1: just killed. And um, I kind of rolled onto the
- 43:34Speaker 1: very last Like as soon as the last draft pick
- 43:36Speaker 1: went across the screen, my agent called and he was like,
- 43:40Speaker 1: all right, well, we got these teams set up, so
- 43:42Speaker 1: these teams set up, so it uh, it didn't it
- 43:45Speaker 1: didn't go the way as planned, but um, God made
- 43:47Speaker 1: away and that's all I could really ask for. You
- 43:50Speaker 1: signed with the Bengals. He had a great training camp,
- 43:52Speaker 1: he played almost every snap in the preseason, and then
- 43:55Speaker 1: you made your NFL debut in Week nine against Carolina.
- 43:59Speaker 1: Can you describe the emotions that went through your mind
- 44:02Speaker 1: and your heart as you got to make your NFL
- 44:04Speaker 1: day deal. I was just thinking, like, dang, I'm about
- 44:07Speaker 1: to run out in the field in the black jersey
- 44:10Speaker 1: at first, because I was like, we were white all preseasons,
- 44:12Speaker 1: so I was just super naive. I guess in the moment,
- 44:15Speaker 1: I was like, hey, we haven't won the black. They
- 44:17Speaker 1: haven't seen me in the black at all. I haven't
- 44:18Speaker 1: even seen myself. So I was just happy to be
- 44:21Speaker 1: out there rocking the black jerseys. Um. And then when
- 44:25Speaker 1: I finally got out onto the field, everything just kind
- 44:29Speaker 1: of it didn't feel like super preseasonist, but I definitely
- 44:35Speaker 1: felt more comfortable just in that setting instead of just
- 44:38Speaker 1: standing on the sideline street clothes or something like that.
- 44:41Speaker 1: I felt like, I, oh, man, this is where I
- 44:42Speaker 1: belong because I truly do feel that I belonged out
- 44:46Speaker 1: on the field, UM, and so I just I just
- 44:49Speaker 1: want to help out in any capacity really, whether it
- 44:52Speaker 1: be on actual defense or on special team. So, um,
- 44:56Speaker 1: I'm here to help. I'm here to serve. I'm gonna
- 45:00Speaker 1: give my effort, my best effort every single time I'm
- 45:01Speaker 1: out there. So I just take every single play, whatever snap,
- 45:05Speaker 1: however many snaps I get. If I get one snap
- 45:07Speaker 1: or if I get eighty, I'm gonna be I'm gonna
- 45:09Speaker 1: be thrilled, and I'm gonna give all I got. All Right,
- 45:11Speaker 1: a few wildcard topics for Alan George to wrap things up.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Do you have any hidden talents? I'm I'm I'm learning
- 45:18Speaker 1: ASL right now. UM. I've been learning the sign language
- 45:22Speaker 1: since I was maybe my mom, she's she kind of
- 45:26Speaker 1: got us into it. She's a teacher and she got
- 45:28Speaker 1: us into it, um whenever she was getting her her masters.
- 45:33Speaker 1: And it's just kind of something that I fell in
- 45:36Speaker 1: love with. And I'm pretty pretty adept in it, I
- 45:39Speaker 1: would say, but not anywhere where I need If I
- 45:41Speaker 1: if I was surrounded by a harder hearing people or
- 45:45Speaker 1: anybody that was deaf, but they probably would just make
- 45:47Speaker 1: fun of me because I signed, I signed super slow
- 45:49Speaker 1: right now. But I'm still learning um. But then other
- 45:52Speaker 1: than that, I guess I just play a lot of
- 45:53Speaker 1: video games. UM. And I love Call of Duty a lot. Uh,
- 45:57Speaker 1: And I was about. I was like on the semi
- 46:00Speaker 1: pro amateur UM level for a good bit, like almost
- 46:05Speaker 1: about the turn pro when I was fourteen years old.
- 46:08Speaker 1: Um uh so I was. I was pretty serious about
- 46:13Speaker 1: playing competitive call of duty for a long time, and
- 46:15Speaker 1: now East Sports has taken off to a level that
- 46:18Speaker 1: we did not imagine it back then. So I just
- 46:22Speaker 1: wonder like, maybe if I would have stuck with that,
- 46:24Speaker 1: maybe I would have been professional in two things and
- 46:26Speaker 1: that would have been kind of like a Bow Jackson
- 46:28Speaker 1: story or something like that. Well, I think it worked
- 46:30Speaker 1: out well for you, but maybe someday you can go
- 46:32Speaker 1: back and turn pro and East Sports. Who is your
- 46:35Speaker 1: all time favorite athlete in any sport and why? It's
- 46:41Speaker 1: probably super cliche, but I would just have to say Lebron.
- 46:44Speaker 1: Um love Lebron and everything he stands for. Really, he's
- 46:50Speaker 1: I can't imagine having that much pressure on me when
- 46:53Speaker 1: I was when I was eighteen years old, having the
- 46:55Speaker 1: whole world watch you since you were eighteen, and you
- 46:59Speaker 1: just really don't make the like super super wrong moves
- 47:04Speaker 1: off the court and on the court. So, I mean,
- 47:07Speaker 1: he's been criticized obviously for like things like maybe going
- 47:11Speaker 1: to the heat and stuff like that and starting these
- 47:13Speaker 1: super teams. But when you judge his character, I feel
- 47:17Speaker 1: like there's really not any flaws, which is it's kind
- 47:21Speaker 1: of hard to even wrap your mind around that that
- 47:24Speaker 1: somebody that's been media glorified since they were eighteen, that
- 47:29Speaker 1: you can't really find any flaws or some dirt or
- 47:32Speaker 1: bad articles on the news and stuff like that. So
- 47:34Speaker 1: I just I'm also looking at him for his character
- 47:37Speaker 1: and off the field than on the field. What do
- 47:39Speaker 1: you like to spend your money on. I'm pretty frugal.
- 47:42Speaker 1: I would say my wife is She's probably gonna hear
- 47:44Speaker 1: this or or reading, and she's gonna be like, yeah,
- 47:47Speaker 1: he does it. He hates any type of money being spent.
- 47:51Speaker 1: He looked at the bank account every day and if
- 47:52Speaker 1: something goes out, he's he's complaining about it. But I
- 47:57Speaker 1: would say I like to spend money on. I really
- 48:01Speaker 1: do love to spend money on shoes. I kind of
- 48:05Speaker 1: calmed that down once I started dating Caitlin Um because
- 48:11Speaker 1: I just realized it was bigger than me. Um. But
- 48:14Speaker 1: whenever we do have kids down the road, I can't
- 48:17Speaker 1: wait to buy them shoes I buy. I get Kaitlin
- 48:19Speaker 1: a new pair, I think two pairs of shoes every year.
- 48:22Speaker 1: Um went for a birthday and then went for Christmas.
- 48:25Speaker 1: So I just try to I just I love buying
- 48:27Speaker 1: shoes and whether they're for me or anybody else. All right,
- 48:30Speaker 1: final fun fact, This one's kind of deep. If you
- 48:33Speaker 1: could meet anybody in history, who would that person be? Oh,
- 48:38Speaker 1: my goodness, gracious, I think I'd go with Martin Luther
- 48:43Speaker 1: King maybe pick. I just want to pick his pick
- 48:46Speaker 1: his brain about how he dealt with what he dealt
- 48:49Speaker 1: with and how he how he could even have the
- 48:51Speaker 1: mindset to deal with it that way, because you could
- 48:55Speaker 1: have went you could have went with it in so
- 48:57Speaker 1: many different avenues. Um, maybe just sit down and have
- 49:02Speaker 1: lunch with him one day or something. That would be
- 49:04Speaker 1: so cool to just talk with him for like an
- 49:06Speaker 1: hour and just kind of soak up as must knowledge
- 49:08Speaker 1: and information that I could. So I would say him
- 49:11Speaker 1: if I had to do it off the cuff or
- 49:12Speaker 1: on the spot, and then I would just say him
- 49:15Speaker 1: it's an excellent answer. This has been fun. I appreciate
- 49:18Speaker 1: your time. Best of luck the rest of the year. Yeah,
- 49:20Speaker 1: thank you, I appreciate it. That's going to do it
- 49:22Speaker 1: for this episode of the Bengals Booth podcast presented by
