- 1:53Speaker 4: Today we have a we have a very very very
- 1:57Speaker 4: kind of special guest here today. I actually I kind
- 2:03Speaker 4: of got started with this young lady, Lisa Odie as
- 2:07Speaker 4: we know her as the football Queen.
- 2:10Speaker 5: Thank you very much.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Lisa was is from Belle, West Virginia, and went to
- 2:15Speaker 4: DuPont High School. She earned her bachelor's degree in education
- 2:19Speaker 4: from West Virginia State University and her master's degree at
- 2:22Speaker 4: Marshall go her. I want to get that in because
- 2:25Speaker 4: I know you got a little WU in the background
- 2:28Speaker 4: there too. She fell in love with football at a
- 2:32Speaker 4: young age with her father taking her to a high
- 2:35Speaker 4: school game, and at that point I think football just
- 2:38Speaker 4: kind of took her over. She also was a cheerleader.
- 2:43Speaker 2: She she was.
- 2:45Speaker 4: Part of and probably the biggest part of the RSN
- 2:48Speaker 4: media part of it, because she she's the fact checker,
- 2:52Speaker 4: fact and the detailed kind of person.
- 2:55Speaker 2: That's who she is.
- 2:57Speaker 4: And she also is the reading specialist Kenall County Schools
- 3:01Speaker 4: as their full time job. All right, I'm gonna I'm
- 3:05Speaker 4: gonna start this somewhere off the off the chart a
- 3:08Speaker 4: little bit, just because I want to make sure I
- 3:12Speaker 4: make this point before we get into the discussion that
- 3:15Speaker 4: we're gonna go our ce team. Youth football had won
- 3:21Speaker 4: two games back to back and then fortunately and not
- 3:27Speaker 4: trying to say anything on the negative side of just Charleston,
- 3:30Speaker 4: but basically just focusing on South Charleston Used Football C team.
- 3:36Speaker 4: They were down, oh, twenty four to nothing Hollis in
- 3:39Speaker 4: the in the very early part of the game. You
- 3:42Speaker 4: you've been around youth football, that's usually you know, that's
- 3:46Speaker 4: usually it. They ended up winning like thirty six to thirty. Wow,
- 3:51Speaker 4: and they came back, and I want to give I
- 3:53Speaker 4: want to give that group of kids and coaches and parents,
- 3:58Speaker 4: you know, some some props simply because if you could
- 4:03Speaker 4: see the joy in them at the end of that game,
- 4:06Speaker 4: I mean it was it was like you could see
- 4:08Speaker 4: parents like just shocked because we had beat charleson the
- 4:11Speaker 4: week before and we were like thinking their best player
- 4:13Speaker 4: wasn't there, he's coming back. Maybe we're not gonna have
- 4:17Speaker 4: a chance because they had beat us once before. And
- 4:20Speaker 4: we we literally get out there and come and are
- 4:25Speaker 4: down twenty four to nothing and then end up winning
- 4:29Speaker 4: that game. I thought that was probably the greatest game
- 4:35Speaker 4: in youth football that I may have ever seen in
- 4:37Speaker 4: my life. It had to be, and I hope, I
- 4:40Speaker 4: hope those parents and those kids will have a chance
- 4:45Speaker 4: to remember that. And you know, sometimes you can be
- 4:48Speaker 4: too young that you might forget and maybe not even
- 4:51Speaker 4: know the importance of what you did. You know, And
- 4:54Speaker 4: because I really don't know if they know what they
- 4:57Speaker 4: did and against they legitimately good team that was probably
- 5:02Speaker 4: expected to go pretty far into playoffs. And I think
- 5:07Speaker 4: and where I'm gonna where I wanted to open up
- 5:09Speaker 4: with that because I think there's something that speaks to
- 5:12Speaker 4: like teamwork. Okay, it does, and when you have you know,
- 5:17Speaker 4: when you have teamwork, when you have all the players playing,
- 5:20Speaker 4: and if you're seeing some of these little kids were
- 5:22Speaker 4: we were at the size, we were so undermanned, Like
- 5:26Speaker 4: I think we had a practice yesterday. I think we
- 5:29Speaker 4: had ten kids, so we might have fifteen, and they
- 5:33Speaker 4: probably had five kids that two of our kids couldn't
- 5:38Speaker 4: match them, right, you know, But they didn't pay any
- 5:41Speaker 4: attention to it.
- 5:43Speaker 2: They just went out and played and like I said,
- 5:46Speaker 2: I'm just.
- 5:46Speaker 4: Super super proud of them, And then it brings me
- 5:51Speaker 4: to this thing.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Where is teamwork? Now?
- 5:55Speaker 4: Like, where is teamwork? Where do you get that kind
- 5:59Speaker 4: of feeling from? Because if the three of us is
- 6:04Speaker 4: on one team and we're buddies and we're close, we're
- 6:10Speaker 4: we're locked in.
- 6:11Speaker 2: In my era, we're locked in.
- 6:13Speaker 4: I you know, you have a bad game, I'm like,
- 6:16Speaker 4: you know, hey, man, you're okay, don't worry about it.
- 6:18Speaker 2: At least have a bad day. Come on, we're good,
- 6:20Speaker 2: let's go, let's go. Where is that?
- 6:24Speaker 4: Because I think, I think I don't have to care
- 6:29Speaker 4: about you. I don't have to care about Lisa. All
- 6:32Speaker 4: I need to do is try to figure out what
- 6:33Speaker 4: is best for me on the team. I don't it
- 6:39Speaker 4: made when I when I see this young team celebrating
- 6:42Speaker 4: and the coaches and the parents and they're all hugging
- 6:44Speaker 4: and half of them want to want to cry. Like
- 6:48Speaker 4: I can see the team in that, I can see
- 6:51Speaker 4: the community in that.
- 6:53Speaker 6: But but do you think that in situations where you
- 6:57Speaker 6: know kids are transferring from school to school, do you
- 6:59Speaker 6: think think that foster is a lack of teamwork?
- 7:03Speaker 2: Do you think that you think those two things are equivalent.
- 7:06Speaker 4: I know what, let me ask it this way, if
- 7:10Speaker 4: you were on that, if you were on that youth
- 7:13Speaker 4: football team, or I'll do better than that our other team, okay,
- 7:18Speaker 4: who were lost. The week before, we had people saying
- 7:22Speaker 4: they weren't you know, they weren't gonna play because they
- 7:24Speaker 4: knew we were gonna lose. So where is the team
- 7:29Speaker 4: in that? You know what I'm saying, like, this ain't
- 7:31Speaker 4: about you know that we're gonna lose. This is about
- 7:34Speaker 4: you being part of the team and you come into
- 7:37Speaker 4: practice and you're practicing, and you get ready and you
- 7:40Speaker 4: give it all, your all that you got in the game.
- 7:43Speaker 4: I'm my concern is we don't know what teamwork is.
- 7:49Speaker 4: I don't think that parents come in and parent and
- 7:53Speaker 4: and we can't expect the kids to know, not at
- 7:56Speaker 4: this age, but I think that the parents shouldn't know.
- 8:00Speaker 2: What team is.
- 8:01Speaker 6: Well, I'm just saying, like far as high school when
- 8:03Speaker 6: we move up, Okay, of course, I mean I don't
- 8:06Speaker 6: mean like the little kids. I'm saying like when we
- 8:07Speaker 6: move to high school of college, different things of that nature.
- 8:10Speaker 6: And we've seen sort of the movement of players and
- 8:14Speaker 6: players aren't locked down to their community school and they're
- 8:16Speaker 6: going to this a situation that best fits them. Is
- 8:20Speaker 6: that does that foster a devoid of teamwork? Or can
- 8:24Speaker 6: you still practice teamwork even though you may be going
- 8:27Speaker 6: from this team to that team.
- 8:28Speaker 2: I don't think so, But at least I know you're
- 8:30Speaker 2: dying to jump in jump in.
- 8:32Speaker 7: Well, no, I just wanted to say, I think I
- 8:33Speaker 7: think the key word in what you're talking about with
- 8:35Speaker 7: your little ones is youth. I think those those younger students,
- 8:38Speaker 7: those younger kids, they haven't learned about individuality yet. They're
- 8:43Speaker 7: out there learning the game. They're out there with their friends.
- 8:47Speaker 7: They're out there, you know, trying to help each other.
- 8:49Speaker 7: And I think as the older they get and the
- 8:51Speaker 7: more they realize, Okay, you know, little Johnny over here,
- 8:54Speaker 7: he can really run fast.
- 8:55Speaker 5: He's good.
- 8:56Speaker 7: He's a good running back, or Tommy's a better quarterback.
- 8:59Speaker 7: And when they start, you know, defining their roles, I
- 9:02Speaker 7: think the teamwork, especially what you're saying about transfers, Hollis,
- 9:06Speaker 7: I think what happens is when they find their niche
- 9:09Speaker 7: in the actual sport, because I mean, let's face it,
- 9:11Speaker 7: in the in the youth leagues, they probably aren't a
- 9:13Speaker 7: sign a specific position, and so to speak, they may
- 9:16Speaker 7: play more than one position.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Correct.
- 9:18Speaker 7: Okay, so they're still figuring out what they're good at
- 9:20Speaker 7: and what they're not good at. And Plus, like I said,
- 9:23Speaker 7: they're young, and so they have that enthusiasm, that joy
- 9:26Speaker 7: that when you get older it becomes more. I don't
- 9:29Speaker 7: want to say they lose the joy, they lose the
- 9:31Speaker 7: happiness in playing the actual game, but I think the
- 9:33Speaker 7: pressure starts to build.
- 9:35Speaker 4: Okay, all right, So Hollis, me and you play youth
- 9:39Speaker 4: football together. Yeah, we go to middle school. We play
- 9:43Speaker 4: middle school football together. Then we go to high school.
- 9:48Speaker 4: We both are freshman's play we play. We play our
- 9:51Speaker 4: freshman year together, we sit on the bench. Then o
- 9:56Speaker 4: our next season that we go in. We I do
- 10:01Speaker 4: pretty good. You know, I didn't want to give him
- 10:03Speaker 4: the credit and say he was. I didn't want to
- 10:06Speaker 4: give him that. So I do pretty good and I
- 10:11Speaker 4: leave or the following year I leave for another team.
- 10:15Speaker 2: Like I don't know, see for me, I don't know
- 10:19Speaker 2: how to do that.
- 10:20Speaker 4: Like I don't know how to say, like, Okay, I'm
- 10:24Speaker 4: just gonna I'm gonna leave my buddies. We lived two
- 10:27Speaker 4: doors down from each other. But you know we go
- 10:29Speaker 4: not necessarily the question.
- 10:30Speaker 6: The question is can you be a good teammate for
- 10:32Speaker 6: the new school, for the new team, And I don't
- 10:35Speaker 6: And I think you still can be a good teammate.
- 10:37Speaker 6: And I don't think you leaving necessarily makes you a
- 10:39Speaker 6: bad teammate. So I don't think the movement and all
- 10:43Speaker 6: those things can be locked. Now again, the relationships are
- 10:47Speaker 6: gonna be different because, like you said that we're coming
- 10:49Speaker 6: all the way from little league to high school. We've
- 10:51Speaker 6: known each other different things of that nature. So you're
- 10:53Speaker 6: gonna have to go make new friends, make new relationships.
- 10:55Speaker 6: But I don't think that automatically, that movement doesn't auto
- 10:59Speaker 6: even movement money, whatever, it doesn't automatically make you a
- 11:03Speaker 6: bad teammate.
- 11:05Speaker 7: Lisa Well, I understand what Hollis is saying and what
- 11:10Speaker 7: you're saying about. You know, growing up together, playing ball together,
- 11:13Speaker 7: You've you've formed a relationship with football, your friends.
- 11:16Speaker 5: I think now with with teamwork and teammates, I think
- 11:21Speaker 5: old school us.
- 11:22Speaker 7: You know, when we were coming through the system, you know,
- 11:24Speaker 7: there wasn't social media. You know, you didn't have a
- 11:27Speaker 7: way to connect with you know, your your school friends,
- 11:30Speaker 7: other than if you met at the movies or a
- 11:31Speaker 7: sporting event or actual football, basketball, if you played a sport.
- 11:35Speaker 7: These kids all know each other through travel ball, through
- 11:38Speaker 7: social media, and so the teamwork piece of it, I
- 11:42Speaker 7: think is more easily fixed, so to speak, when they
- 11:47Speaker 7: moved from one school to another, because basically they already
- 11:49Speaker 7: know each other.
- 11:50Speaker 6: A lot of them do, and they might have played
- 11:52Speaker 6: with each other, like you just said, somewhere travel and
- 11:56Speaker 6: I could.
- 11:56Speaker 4: I definitely see that because I see travel ball coming
- 11:59Speaker 4: through working at the rec center. You see travel ball
- 12:03Speaker 4: coming through practicing, whether it be basketball or whatever, and
- 12:06Speaker 4: you and you see.
- 12:07Speaker 6: That, and I think they're more adept at, you know,
- 12:11Speaker 6: having a variety of teammates coming in and out because again,
- 12:15Speaker 6: like understanding the rules of transferring. But beyond that, if
- 12:18Speaker 6: we're looking at travel ball, they're playing on one team,
- 12:21Speaker 6: playing on that team, playing on that team age. So
- 12:23Speaker 6: these kids might be playing on three and four different
- 12:25Speaker 6: teams throughout their youth, so they're used to having a
- 12:27Speaker 6: variety of teammates. Where we came up and generally, even
- 12:30Speaker 6: if we played like a travel sports like AU basketball,
- 12:33Speaker 6: generally we're staying with the same core group of guys.
- 12:37Speaker 6: But now it's all fluid now again. I think what
- 12:40Speaker 6: that does is that messes up cohesion. I think that
- 12:44Speaker 6: you know, you start to maybe not your ability to
- 12:49Speaker 6: stick it out when things aren't going tough.
- 12:52Speaker 2: That's that's effecting it, you know what I'm saying.
- 12:54Speaker 6: Because now it's all now you have a real option,
- 12:57Speaker 6: it's not just you talking mint to stay with this team.
- 13:00Speaker 2: I was like, I can really just go over here
- 13:02Speaker 2: and go to school.
- 13:02Speaker 4: Okay, And and and to that point, we we we've
- 13:07Speaker 4: gotten some of that this ship. Just say, at the
- 13:09Speaker 4: youth level, we've gotten some of that. Some folks that
- 13:11Speaker 4: you know who've said, oh, we're not winning, our kids
- 13:15Speaker 4: not playing here next year, they're gonna go such and
- 13:17Speaker 4: such and such and such. Now for for me, okay
- 13:24Speaker 4: for me. And I'm trying to trace back to my
- 13:28Speaker 4: to each one of the levels in which I played youth,
- 13:31Speaker 4: youth sports, old junior high sports, and high school sports.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Right one, I can't even I can't even I can't
- 13:40Speaker 4: even wrap my head around leaving because most of the
- 13:44Speaker 4: guys that I was playing with, we all grew up
- 13:47Speaker 4: on the same street, right in the same neighborhood. And
- 13:50Speaker 4: and I and again I don't know you, you know,
- 13:53Speaker 4: at South Hills because you know, I'm never because there
- 13:57Speaker 4: wasn't different It might as well have been a different seity.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Yeah yeah, you might as well whole other country as
- 14:02Speaker 4: far as that goes. You know, I might have seen
- 14:04Speaker 4: you on the field, but that but I didn't like
- 14:06Speaker 4: you on the field because you were on the other team.
- 14:10Speaker 4: So I think back in as we say, back in
- 14:13Speaker 4: the day, old school, we didn't have that that opportunity
- 14:19Speaker 4: to to broaden your horizon on different people.
- 14:23Speaker 2: You were.
- 14:24Speaker 4: You were located locked in to an area of specific players.
- 14:30Speaker 2: But I also think I.
- 14:34Speaker 6: Think it's it's almost unfair for you to put yourself
- 14:38Speaker 6: in that mindset because I think to you, winning and
- 14:42Speaker 6: losing necessity, it wasn't the primary goal for you. It
- 14:46Speaker 6: was always I'm trying to get to the league. I'm
- 14:49Speaker 6: so sad, so winning in winning and losing wasn't your
- 14:53Speaker 6: primary thing. So I don't think I think it's hard
- 14:55Speaker 6: for you to understand that because your goals weren't that
- 14:58Speaker 6: were this kid who's just go to play high school football,
- 15:01Speaker 6: I might play junior college, might play small ball, small
- 15:04Speaker 6: college football. There in him and his parents' goal is
- 15:07Speaker 6: to win now because they know they're only doing this
- 15:10Speaker 6: for a short time. So I think for you to
- 15:12Speaker 6: jump you so, I think you have a hard time
- 15:14Speaker 6: understanding understanding why a kid would leave his friends or
- 15:18Speaker 6: or go to with this coach, or go to this
- 15:20Speaker 6: school because the goal for them is to win now
- 15:22Speaker 6: because they only have a fine amount of time to
- 15:24Speaker 6: do this.
- 15:25Speaker 4: Okay, Okay, So Lisa, my question is in in my
- 15:30Speaker 4: flaw because I'll accept that. Accept that, and I think
- 15:34Speaker 4: you've said that to me before. So Okay, you're out
- 15:40Speaker 4: there on your own. You know, basically, you're you. You're
- 15:44Speaker 4: you're the as the athlete or you as your as
- 15:46Speaker 4: a and your child. You make you're making this decision
- 15:51Speaker 4: based on what then, like you know, is the parent
- 15:55Speaker 4: locked into picking a school that because this because we're
- 16:00Speaker 4: losing here, we're losing at the at the original school,
- 16:04Speaker 4: so we want to get you want to get your
- 16:06Speaker 4: kid in a better situation. Is is winning a better situation?
- 16:13Speaker 7: I think in the minds of families and parents, they
- 16:16Speaker 7: feel like and even though it's kind of an oxymoron
- 16:19Speaker 7: because we're we're sitting here talking about old school and
- 16:21Speaker 7: compared you know, to now, well to now, when you
- 16:25Speaker 7: you've got so much access to media, you know that
- 16:27Speaker 7: there's just so many different ways to see a player perform.
- 16:31Speaker 5: So you know, even if you're on a team that's losing.
- 16:34Speaker 7: You're still you're if your if your child is able
- 16:37Speaker 7: to you know, succeed in playing whatever sport it is,
- 16:41Speaker 7: they're going to get the coverage. And so you know,
- 16:43Speaker 7: it's it's not like it was years ago.
- 16:47Speaker 5: Whenever.
- 16:48Speaker 7: You know, if you were you were at a school
- 16:51Speaker 7: that was you know, losing or just not you know, performing,
- 16:55Speaker 7: or they weren't in the limelight, then they you know,
- 16:58Speaker 7: they didn't get the coverage that those schools that were
- 17:01Speaker 7: winning did because back then you just had newspaper and
- 17:03Speaker 7: basically TV that was it.
- 17:05Speaker 5: That was your coverage.
- 17:06Speaker 7: And so now I think but I think some of
- 17:08Speaker 7: those parents came from that age still, you know that
- 17:11Speaker 7: they were coming through the technology age, and I think
- 17:14Speaker 7: their mindset still is, hey, if I want junior to
- 17:17Speaker 7: be able to play at WU or Marshall or even
- 17:19Speaker 7: bigger aspirations, then they've got to be on that team
- 17:22Speaker 7: that they can first of all start and first of all,
- 17:25Speaker 7: you know, be successful and win.
- 17:27Speaker 5: And if they're on a team.
- 17:28Speaker 7: Also, another thing that they may may be looking at
- 17:30Speaker 7: is if they're if they're if their child is on
- 17:33Speaker 7: a team that is weak and they're playing let's say offense.
- 17:38Speaker 7: You know they're they're a good offensive player, they could
- 17:39Speaker 7: get hurt because you don't have the players to protect
- 17:42Speaker 7: that's that player. So I think there's just so many
- 17:46Speaker 7: facets into what families are looking at when they're entering
- 17:49Speaker 7: the transfer portal, so to speak. I think they're also
- 17:52Speaker 7: looking at the quality of education.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I do.
- 17:57Speaker 5: I do think that to a degree. I do to
- 18:00Speaker 5: a degree.
- 18:02Speaker 4: I think in the beginning, when they were hesitant to
- 18:06Speaker 4: just transfer because they want to be on a better team,
- 18:10Speaker 4: I think that they may have looked at the school
- 18:12Speaker 4: and and try to figure out.
- 18:14Speaker 2: I think, now all.
- 18:15Speaker 4: That matters is what that team that I'm gonna send
- 18:17Speaker 4: my can to. That to my kid that I'm gonna
- 18:20Speaker 4: send my kid to. That's I think that's all that
- 18:22Speaker 4: matters is my kid. Is my kid gonna play at
- 18:26Speaker 4: if if I come to Hollis to school he's the coach,
- 18:29Speaker 4: is my kid gonna play? I think that's really all
- 18:31Speaker 4: that matters. And if he's not gonna play. Okay, are
- 18:36Speaker 4: you gonna win.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Now?
- 18:39Speaker 4: And and and and and I'll say this, and Hollis
- 18:42Speaker 4: hold me to this. We gotta get a scout. We
- 18:45Speaker 4: need a scout on the show. We need a scout
- 18:47Speaker 4: on the show to actually make it very clear to
- 18:52Speaker 4: parents what they're looking for, because I mean, you got
- 19:00Speaker 4: to fit the metrics. I mean, you know, you gotta
- 19:02Speaker 4: be the height, weight and all that kind of stuff,
- 19:04Speaker 4: the forty times the bench like you. You've got to
- 19:07Speaker 4: get all of those things, and it doesn't really matter.
- 19:12Speaker 4: But I think even to that degree, for a kid
- 19:15Speaker 4: who doesn't fit the metrics, to a listen's point, if
- 19:18Speaker 4: I can get on this good team, if I can
- 19:20Speaker 4: start and my kid who may be a little bit
- 19:23Speaker 4: undersized here and there, can show and prove and they
- 19:26Speaker 4: can you know, be successful, then that might propel them,
- 19:30Speaker 4: where as opposed if they're on a bad team and
- 19:33Speaker 4: they're not fitting the metrics and they're not having the success,
- 19:36Speaker 4: the status, everything like that. So I just think it's
- 19:38Speaker 4: a lot of factors that go into play when parents
- 19:42Speaker 4: are trying to assess moving kids from school to school.
- 19:45Speaker 4: I don't think it's I think it has a lot
- 19:48Speaker 4: to do with winning. But I think they're looking at
- 19:50Speaker 4: a lot of different things. If I transfer twice, am
- 19:57Speaker 4: I wrong? Am I selfish? If I being selfish? Or
- 19:59Speaker 4: am I just inside of the system? I can Am
- 20:03Speaker 4: I just staying inside of the system? If I transfer twice?
- 20:07Speaker 4: So I leave South Charleston, I go to South Hills,
- 20:11Speaker 4: I leave South Hills, I go.
- 20:15Speaker 2: Capital Am I what am I? What am I doing?
- 20:21Speaker 5: That's my question? What are you doing?
- 20:24Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? I mean, does that?
- 20:26Speaker 5: Is that a scenario that happens a lot?
- 20:28Speaker 2: Though?
- 20:28Speaker 5: I mean, do we see that.
- 20:30Speaker 4: We've seen that a couple of I think there's a
- 20:33Speaker 4: couple couple of kids that have generally they'll start at
- 20:36Speaker 4: one school, then maybe go to another school in the
- 20:39Speaker 4: state and may be going somewhere out of state and
- 20:41Speaker 4: come back.
- 20:42Speaker 2: So we have seen yids go to three and four
- 20:44Speaker 2: different high schools.
- 20:45Speaker 4: I don't I don't I think there should be like
- 20:50Speaker 4: a cap on that.
- 20:51Speaker 7: I mean, like you should only be able to transfer once.
- 20:54Speaker 7: I mean, that's it.
- 20:57Speaker 4: But wouldn't it wouldn't it? Wouldn't it be great? Though,
- 20:58Speaker 4: if we could get somebody to come one that would
- 21:01Speaker 4: actually who's who is legitimately part of this process and
- 21:05Speaker 4: actually make it make sense to us.
- 21:07Speaker 6: Well, let me ask you this while we're going down
- 21:09Speaker 6: the line. As far as the w V, S, S, A, C.
- 21:12Speaker 6: What is I'll ask you, Lisa, what's what should be
- 21:15Speaker 6: their role in when we talk about transfer, when we
- 21:18Speaker 6: talk about the classifications that just seems like a total debacle,
- 21:23Speaker 6: like far as high school football?
- 21:25Speaker 2: What is there?
- 21:25Speaker 4: What?
- 21:25Speaker 2: What? What? What should their role?
- 21:27Speaker 7: Well, we the role should be to regulate these things
- 21:31Speaker 7: a little better than they are. The other thing is,
- 21:34Speaker 7: I think we talked about this on one of the
- 21:35Speaker 7: RSN shows when we asked about when they sit down
- 21:39Speaker 7: the board of directors or whoever they are, who are
- 21:42Speaker 7: those people and and and when they told us there
- 21:45Speaker 7: were no it was mainly athletic directors, right, There were
- 21:49Speaker 7: no administrators. There are no coaches, head coaches. And to
- 21:53Speaker 7: me that that that's just totally it blew my mind
- 21:56Speaker 7: because those are the people affects the most. In my opinion,
- 21:59Speaker 7: you should have it at least half of that board.
- 22:02Speaker 7: And I think, I hope I'm right. I think that's
- 22:03Speaker 7: what we talked about.
- 22:04Speaker 2: Carl My I think so too. That's the way I.
- 22:06Speaker 7: Understood it because we had a guest on the show
- 22:08Speaker 7: that he was actually a representative and he said that
- 22:12Speaker 7: when we asked him that question, he said, mainly the
- 22:14Speaker 7: admin and the ads And I'm like, no head coaches.
- 22:19Speaker 7: So to me, one way to I don't know if
- 22:22Speaker 7: you can fix it, but maybe to look at it
- 22:24Speaker 7: and make it better or make it improve it all
- 22:27Speaker 7: these things they are doing to the classifications and to
- 22:30Speaker 7: the transfer portal is to get some people that are
- 22:32Speaker 7: living it well.
- 22:34Speaker 4: And let me ask this, Hollis to you, at least
- 22:37Speaker 4: you can answer after him. If they were to go
- 22:42Speaker 4: back and say, Okay, we're gonna we're gonna stop this,
- 22:47Speaker 4: would head coaches?
- 22:49Speaker 2: Would there be a head coach that you.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Would think and not trying to name a coach or anything,
- 22:53Speaker 4: but do you see a head coach that would complain about.
- 22:57Speaker 6: Yeah, sure, I mean those coaches who have benefited from it.
- 23:00Speaker 6: But to Lisa's point, I mean, I think the role
- 23:03Speaker 6: the wv SSAC and I asked that almost is a
- 23:05Speaker 6: rhetorical question. Your role has to be to look at
- 23:09Speaker 6: what's going on and say, it's just for the benefit
- 23:12Speaker 6: of our athletic competition. Is just for the benefit of
- 23:15Speaker 6: the kids, and I just I can't think of a
- 23:18Speaker 6: scenario that it is now. Again, far as transferring, I
- 23:21Speaker 6: think you should be a lot of a transferred time,
- 23:23Speaker 6: and I think they've sort of boxed in those rules.
- 23:27Speaker 6: But then you go from one thing from the frying
- 23:29Speaker 6: pans to the fire, and then you talk about these classifications,
- 23:32Speaker 6: which is a total debacle. So it seems like year
- 23:33Speaker 6: after year you're not getting the right maybe because you're
- 23:36Speaker 6: not really to Lisa's point, you don't have head coaches,
- 23:39Speaker 6: you don't have formal players, you don't have people who
- 23:41Speaker 6: really understand the impact that these decisions will have. Because
- 23:45Speaker 6: we mentioned earlier you're gonna have sixteen four A schools
- 23:49Speaker 6: and all sixteen are gonna make the playoffs, and you're
- 23:52Speaker 6: gonna have one school that's two and seven, two and eight,
- 23:55Speaker 6: three and seven. They don't need to be there. So
- 23:58Speaker 6: I think it's just I don't I'm not calling out leadership.
- 24:02Speaker 6: I'm not saying any of that, but I think they
- 24:03Speaker 6: really have to go to the drawing board and assess
- 24:06Speaker 6: these decisions and look long term, and I think players
- 24:09Speaker 6: coaches would be the ones to do that.
- 24:12Speaker 4: I think when I think about this, the other on
- 24:16Speaker 4: the on the classification of going to four A one.
- 24:20Speaker 4: I don't know if we're for a if we actually
- 24:22Speaker 4: have a legitimate for a school.
- 24:24Speaker 6: Okay, you literally we literally have the population of of
- 24:29Speaker 6: a medium sized the big city. It's one point six
- 24:32Speaker 6: one point seven people in West the state of West Gin,
- 24:34Speaker 6: a city like Houston, like just within Houston, maybe a
- 24:38Speaker 6: few blocks in Houston.
- 24:39Speaker 4: Well, even if you were gonna do that, why did
- 24:42Speaker 4: you like wait until like legitimately, like right at the
- 24:47Speaker 4: almost the very beginning of football.
- 24:52Speaker 2: So one day you're a triple A.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Next day, all of a sudden there's a quada available
- 24:57Speaker 4: and you and you either got bumped up to it
- 24:59Speaker 4: or and then had to turn around and bump yourself
- 25:02Speaker 4: back down to it.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Pills. Yeah, like.
- 25:06Speaker 4: To me obviously, or if I'm wrong, tell me. I
- 25:12Speaker 4: don't even know if the coaches and the teams were
- 25:13Speaker 4: prepared for that, Like I don't know.
- 25:17Speaker 6: Again, particularly like I said, I think they knew what
- 25:20Speaker 6: the classification was going in. But then when you had
- 25:23Speaker 6: the administrators doing the appeals in the lawsuits, basically of
- 25:26Speaker 6: those decisions because of how they were made again it
- 25:29Speaker 6: was made. It's a whole formula that didn't really some
- 25:32Speaker 6: parts of it didn't make sense. It wasn't strictly based
- 25:34Speaker 6: on enrollment like it has been in the past. They
- 25:37Speaker 6: added other factors which were arguable. So again it was
- 25:41Speaker 6: a situation in which you just arbitrarily made a formula
- 25:46Speaker 6: that didn't necessarily make sense to anybody outside of you
- 25:52Speaker 6: of your group. It's like it almost wasn't tested. It
- 25:54Speaker 6: wasn't really and I hate to say, it wasn't really.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Thought through well.
- 25:59Speaker 4: And that's that's clear because when you look at it,
- 26:03Speaker 4: how many of those teams that were going to be
- 26:05Speaker 4: in Quad A half they they got they backed out
- 26:09Speaker 4: of it. You know, they were like, no, we're going
- 26:12Speaker 4: we're going to We're going to go to back down
- 26:16Speaker 4: to Triple A and Triple A. Guys who double AD
- 26:19Speaker 4: went up the Triple A. They're like, we're going back
- 26:21Speaker 4: down to double A. So they had no kind of
- 26:25Speaker 4: an alert, no kind of like no, well, like, how
- 26:30Speaker 4: do you throw that at sports? Like like, I mean,
- 26:34Speaker 4: and I'm not asking you really as a legitimate answer, but.
- 26:38Speaker 7: Come on, I think I think part of the problem,
- 26:41Speaker 7: Carl was whenever they did it in basketball. Of course,
- 26:44Speaker 7: before they they did it in football and when you
- 26:46Speaker 7: look at basketball, that's a completely different scenario.
- 26:49Speaker 5: It's a different sport.
- 26:50Speaker 7: It's it's you know, the number of athletes you have
- 26:52Speaker 7: on the team, the number that's required to play, you know,
- 26:56Speaker 7: and at the basketball level, maybe it's working. You know,
- 26:59Speaker 7: I need to pay better attention when the tournament rolls
- 27:01Speaker 7: around to see that. But what happened in the fall,
- 27:04Speaker 7: like you said, throwing that on those teams right at
- 27:06Speaker 7: the last minute, and then the appeals just really put
- 27:09Speaker 7: you know, it just threw everybody for a loop. People's
- 27:11Speaker 7: schedules got you know, misconstrued, they got messed up.
- 27:15Speaker 5: All of it was just a debacle out.
- 27:18Speaker 6: Now you have a lot of those, for example, a
- 27:20Speaker 6: lot of those and again I'll say basketball. And with basketball,
- 27:22Speaker 6: you have more teams, right, you have more schools that
- 27:25Speaker 6: play basketball. Some schools don't have football, right, But a
- 27:27Speaker 6: lot of those, like Triple A schools, now they still
- 27:30Speaker 6: had to carry those four A schedules, right, So a
- 27:33Speaker 6: lot of those Triple A schools that you probably can
- 27:35Speaker 6: maybe be sitting at right now at four and two
- 27:38Speaker 6: or three and three, right, you may be zero to
- 27:40Speaker 6: six because you had a gauntlet of four A schools
- 27:43Speaker 6: that you didn't have to play, so it threw everything off.
- 27:47Speaker 6: So you may be looking at a potential playoff team
- 27:49Speaker 6: in a four A or double A excuse me, a
- 27:52Speaker 6: three A or double A school that had to play
- 27:54Speaker 6: up because the schedules were already set and they couldn't
- 27:56Speaker 6: change the schedule.
- 27:57Speaker 2: So it just Falster's idea.
- 27:58Speaker 6: And let you know, like this was and thought through
- 28:00Speaker 6: because offering every single appeal one right and it just
- 28:05Speaker 6: makes it. But and because I know we talked about
- 28:07Speaker 6: earlier and when you look at the scores, the scores
- 28:09Speaker 6: sort of reflect that when you look at how non
- 28:11Speaker 6: competitive some of these games are, and you know.
- 28:15Speaker 4: And I and I we we've talked about the scores
- 28:19Speaker 4: prior to we were we were going to run down
- 28:22Speaker 4: a list of just making you understand how how lopsided
- 28:30Speaker 4: the scores have been this season. And it's just out
- 28:33Speaker 4: of out of it's just out of control. Ladies and gentlemen.

- 29:36Speaker 3: Now back to the conversation.
- 29:40Speaker 4: All right, ladies and gentlemen, this is Carl Lee and
- 29:42Speaker 4: we're back. And uh, a little bit of a conversation
- 29:48Speaker 4: going on prior to the break about just the reality
- 29:53Speaker 4: of I don't even want to call it transferre just
- 29:57Speaker 4: the idea of high school sports and where it where
- 30:00Speaker 4: it is and where it's gonna go, you know, and
- 30:03Speaker 4: just so many different lopsided.
- 30:06Speaker 2: Scores and things like that.
- 30:09Speaker 4: But I think we're gonna, we're gonna, We're gonna jump
- 30:11Speaker 4: off of that for just a second. I think Hollis
- 30:13Speaker 4: has I think he has a topic that he wants
- 30:16Speaker 4: to throw at me. So so we seen last night
- 30:19Speaker 4: that Lebron James and his son Bronni actually took the
- 30:22Speaker 4: floor together, right, So he's actually playing with his son.
- 30:26Speaker 4: I think Lebron is in you know, he's a champion
- 30:28Speaker 4: and all that. You think he's in his twenty twenty
- 30:30Speaker 4: first year something like that. I think it's twenty twenty
- 30:33Speaker 4: something like that. He actually played a NBA game with
- 30:36Speaker 4: his son. They played together.
- 30:38Speaker 2: Wow. Does this make Lebron the greatest of all time? Oh?
- 30:44Speaker 7: Boy?
- 30:44Speaker 6: Because he was able to do that, does that make
- 30:47Speaker 6: him the greatest? And if he stays another year or two,
- 30:52Speaker 6: he'll probably play with the youngest one too, or against him.
- 30:57Speaker 2: I don't want to say yet. I really don't want
- 31:01Speaker 2: to say. Yes.
- 31:02Speaker 4: I'm gonna I'm gonna lean on the side of no.
- 31:05Speaker 4: But what I will give him is I don't know
- 31:09Speaker 4: anyone who could sustain that physicality at that level for
- 31:16Speaker 4: that long.
- 31:18Speaker 6: But no, but let's let's let's bring it back home
- 31:20Speaker 6: because we've we've we've seen players play with dad. We've
- 31:23Speaker 6: seen like King Griffy, he played with his dad, right,
- 31:25Speaker 6: But King Griffy wasn't never I don't think King Griffy
- 31:28Speaker 6: Senior was never considered like the greatest in the or
- 31:30Speaker 6: the best in the league, or or the goat conversation.
- 31:33Speaker 6: We're talking about somebody who's arguably a top two, top
- 31:36Speaker 6: three player of all time in NBA history. And traditionally,
- 31:40Speaker 6: their sons don't make don't do good well in sports,
- 31:44Speaker 6: they don't do well, they don't they don't make it
- 31:45Speaker 6: to the league a lot of times, let alone, you know,
- 31:48Speaker 6: be drafted. So I'm saying, for the greatest on somebody
- 31:52Speaker 6: skinned the greatest, and his son played with him and
- 31:56Speaker 6: maybe to lead.
- 31:57Speaker 2: Okay, I would have, I would have. I won't pigot.
- 32:02Speaker 5: Okay, Okay.
- 32:04Speaker 7: I feel like maybe he's the greatest at longevity, you know,
- 32:08Speaker 7: and he's he's able to, like like Carl said, sustain
- 32:11Speaker 7: you know, the physicality of being in the.
- 32:12Speaker 5: NBA all these years.
- 32:14Speaker 7: But what you really need to look at is is
- 32:16Speaker 7: his resume of wins and performance? I mean, to me,
- 32:20Speaker 7: I still look back at Michael Jordan's and I'm thinking,
- 32:24Speaker 7: you know, the comparison between Michael Jordan and Lebron It's
- 32:29Speaker 7: different style of play for sure, and so that that
- 32:32Speaker 7: makes it even more difficult to determine who is the
- 32:34Speaker 7: greatest of all time.
- 32:35Speaker 5: Maybe they both are.
- 32:37Speaker 7: But to me, I think it's awesome that his son
- 32:39Speaker 7: is able, is talented enough to be able to get
- 32:42Speaker 7: to that level and play with his dad. But yet
- 32:44Speaker 7: I don't know if that qualifies him as the but does.
- 32:47Speaker 2: But but does that go on the resume? Guess what?
- 32:50Speaker 5: I'm there?
- 32:51Speaker 2: But does is that part of when we look at
- 32:53Speaker 2: the big all of it? For sure?
- 32:55Speaker 6: But so when we look in at resumes, the resumes
- 32:58Speaker 6: that's on the resume? Is that not on the resume?
- 33:01Speaker 2: Okay?
- 33:01Speaker 4: Are you making it on the resume because it's the sun,
- 33:04Speaker 4: or you making it on the resume based off of
- 33:06Speaker 4: just the number of years that he played.
- 33:08Speaker 2: No, if you say, you say, okay, so twenty years.
- 33:11Speaker 4: Okay, if he played twenty years, brouh, my hat's off
- 33:14Speaker 4: to him. Yeah, Okay, he plays twenty years and he
- 33:18Speaker 4: played a game with his son.
- 33:20Speaker 2: For three men.
- 33:21Speaker 6: Well, let me say this about it. I don't think
- 33:23Speaker 6: that say this about the twenty years to me is great,
- 33:28Speaker 6: But I don't think with modern technology and I think
- 33:31Speaker 6: you can do it, I don't think it's I think
- 33:33Speaker 6: we're going to see a lot more of that in
- 33:35Speaker 6: the basketball. It's way less physical than the nineties. So
- 33:38Speaker 6: to me, I'm not even that's not even like whoopy?
- 33:41Speaker 2: Do you know? It's okay, it's big.
- 33:42Speaker 6: But what I'm saying to you, you are the considered
- 33:46Speaker 6: a go to the game, you considered that one of
- 33:48Speaker 6: the greatest ever, and you brought your son up with
- 33:51Speaker 6: you and we I don't think we've ever seen that.
- 33:55Speaker 2: No, I don't think. No, I don't think we have.
- 33:58Speaker 6: Not only playing a guy me because we can say
- 33:59Speaker 6: DM to what he's doing with his son should door.
- 34:02Speaker 2: But I'm saying playing together, I think it's.
- 34:05Speaker 4: I think it's amazing of the just the fact that
- 34:08Speaker 4: they're able to do that.
- 34:10Speaker 2: I might have to put him over Jordan, but no,
- 34:13Speaker 2: I'm not. I'm not putting because.
- 34:15Speaker 4: He got your son, your son got your son, got
- 34:18Speaker 4: to give me something.
- 34:19Speaker 2: He he.
- 34:24Speaker 5: This Okay, But let's let's get back to this point. Okay,
- 34:29Speaker 5: I'll make this point. So how old was.
- 34:31Speaker 7: He though when he entered the NBA Lebron yes, eighteen, Okay, okay, okay.
- 34:35Speaker 7: So during during Jordan's tenure, he had to, you know,
- 34:38Speaker 7: go through the college before he got there, so you know,
- 34:42Speaker 7: he may have played. I don't know how long Jordan
- 34:44Speaker 7: played in the league, but maybe close to that.
- 34:47Speaker 2: He's fifteen sixteen someone, so you.
- 34:49Speaker 7: Got to consider he was younger when he entered the league,
- 34:52Speaker 7: which gave him more time to play. And like I said,
- 34:56Speaker 7: I think you have to look at the resume of
- 34:58Speaker 7: championships he's won compaired to other players.
- 35:01Speaker 5: I'm not saying he's not one of the greatest of
- 35:03Speaker 5: all time. I think he's awesome.
- 35:04Speaker 2: Okay, let me ask you to let me ask you though, Okay,
- 35:14Speaker 2: So I'm strong.
- 35:16Speaker 6: Okay, So all those points we made in all that
- 35:18Speaker 6: valid that you had to go through the college system.
- 35:20Speaker 6: But let's assume that even Jordan's out the league and
- 35:23Speaker 6: then his son makes the league. So I'm not saying
- 35:26Speaker 6: necessarily that even that like Lebron is playing with his son,
- 35:30Speaker 6: which I think that's a separate thing. But the fact
- 35:32Speaker 6: that his son even made the league when Jordan's kids
- 35:35Speaker 6: ain't make the league.
- 35:36Speaker 7: Yeah, but who's mommy. Mommy might have to sum through
- 35:38Speaker 7: some jeans that played the party college ball.
- 35:42Speaker 2: Both Jordan says, both played college ball. Yeah, anyone.
- 35:46Speaker 4: And the power in which Lebron has ended the game
- 35:51Speaker 4: now what he has with his team, the power, because
- 35:57Speaker 4: let's be honest, is that was that the Lakers' best
- 36:01Speaker 4: pit was that gonna be was that gonna be their
- 36:04Speaker 4: best Okay, so this was this was an orchestrated to me,
- 36:09Speaker 4: this was an orchestrated thing. All Right, we're gonna go ahead,
- 36:12Speaker 4: we're gonna draft. The fact that you did it. I
- 36:14Speaker 4: don't care if it's even orchestrated. The fact that you
- 36:17Speaker 4: did it, the fact that you're gonnad that you like,
- 36:22Speaker 4: hats off to that's on the rest. Lebron could make
- 36:26Speaker 4: professional basketball shut down on a holiday.
- 36:29Speaker 2: He can created a.
- 36:29Speaker 4: Holiday for me, like, like I don't want to work today,
- 36:32Speaker 4: Let's just call this a holiday. This just call this
- 36:34Speaker 4: Lebron and everybody go shut down. But I'm not gonna
- 36:38Speaker 4: give him like his son's got to do something. His
- 36:41Speaker 4: son's gotta The fact that you made it, but the
- 36:46Speaker 4: fact that you just.
- 36:46Speaker 6: Made it to me, to me even like an around
- 36:50Speaker 6: the second, which is like going to the last round
- 36:52Speaker 6: of the NFL draft. But what I'm saying, even like
- 36:54Speaker 6: Shador Sanders Shador again they don't play together, obviously, but
- 36:58Speaker 6: I'm saying the fact that should your Sanders. Deon said
- 37:01Speaker 6: that we can argue the greatest, uh one of the
- 37:04Speaker 6: greatest football players ever and his son is a first
- 37:07Speaker 6: round draft pick at a quarterback and has the potential
- 37:10Speaker 6: to do whatever. To me, that's like that elevates you.
- 37:16Speaker 2: I am all for that.
- 37:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm just not on for the other side because
- 37:22Speaker 4: when you start talking about your door, that ain't the same.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Okay, I mean, okay, I mean I got you. I mean,
- 37:31Speaker 2: I'll give you that. But I'm just saying, as a
- 37:33Speaker 2: superstar got we know the pressure that's on those kids,
- 37:36Speaker 2: Like we talk about transferring and all that sort of thing,
- 37:38Speaker 2: and the pressure because I think now it's a different
- 37:41Speaker 2: set of pressure on the kids because, as you mentioned, Lisa,
- 37:44Speaker 2: with all the trans excuse me, with all the social
- 37:46Speaker 2: media and access to media, and particularly a kid like that,
- 37:50Speaker 2: with all that pressure and everything, and you still figure
- 37:53Speaker 2: out a way to get him to that level the media.
- 37:56Speaker 2: But here's the thing, go over that spot. He got
- 37:59Speaker 2: the crown. The benefit of being Lebron's son is.
- 38:07Speaker 4: Your only like all the all the noise that Lebron's
- 38:10Speaker 4: gonna get, he's shutting that out and so his kid
- 38:14Speaker 4: ain't getting all that heat.
- 38:16Speaker 2: Oh no, I'm not saying that. I'm not saying that.
- 38:20Speaker 4: They're not talking about him on social media and saying
- 38:23Speaker 4: he's not this, he's not that.
- 38:25Speaker 2: I'm not saying that.
- 38:26Speaker 4: But it's Lebron's son, and Lebron is like got him
- 38:29Speaker 4: under his arm, and like, bro, come on, don't don't
- 38:32Speaker 4: don't read that.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Just look, come on listen, get out here to start
- 38:36Speaker 2: and fight.
- 38:37Speaker 5: And here's the other side to that.
- 38:39Speaker 7: I know what you're saying about the pressure Haulius and
- 38:42Speaker 7: and all that, but you know what they say, what
- 38:44Speaker 7: what's one of the sayings. My my dad used to
- 38:46Speaker 7: tell me talk good about me, talk bad about me,
- 38:49Speaker 7: but talk about me.
- 38:50Speaker 5: And you know that's the thing.
- 38:51Speaker 7: I mean, he had those opportunities right out of the
- 38:53Speaker 7: gate because of his dad was so you know, you
- 38:56Speaker 7: compare that to some kid that you know just plays it,
- 39:00Speaker 7: you know, Capitol High School, I mean, right out of
- 39:02Speaker 7: the gate, he had eyes on him.
- 39:04Speaker 2: If he don't have if he doesn't have a dad
- 39:06Speaker 2: playing in the NBA, he's a UC.
- 39:09Speaker 4: There you go, that's not that's not that's not. That's
- 39:16Speaker 4: not Dion Sun's situation. He's going he can ball, he
- 39:21Speaker 4: can ball, he can ball. But I'm just saying, and
- 39:24Speaker 4: d I don't need to do anything true.
- 39:28Speaker 6: I mean, I give you that, I give you that,
- 39:29Speaker 6: But I'm just saying, man, I just think it's phenomenal
- 39:32Speaker 6: because generally great players, they they're they're offspring, sons, daughters
- 39:37Speaker 6: aren't necessarily comparable great, particularly in the same sport. Now
- 39:41Speaker 6: and he may be great in a different sport, but
- 39:44Speaker 6: generally you're not great in the same sport. It's the
- 39:47Speaker 6: same thing. But no, I'm saying it's the same thing
- 39:49Speaker 6: with the Mannis. It's like why the man's that legacy
- 39:52Speaker 6: is so phenomenal. Dad was a great quarterback, brother is
- 39:55Speaker 6: a great quarterback. The nephew is gonna be a great quarterback.
- 39:58Speaker 6: That's the greatest. That's probably the SA his family. Yeah,
- 40:01Speaker 6: the Matthews with family. Yeah, really funny, that's crazy. It's
- 40:07Speaker 6: so funny.
- 40:08Speaker 4: I mean, I played with Archie. Yeah, you know, I
- 40:11Speaker 4: got a year with him. But I just think that
- 40:16Speaker 4: Lebron has made this happen for.
- 40:18Speaker 6: His So you're saying, so the son didn't do it
- 40:20Speaker 6: on his own marriage. I mean, I think we all
- 40:22Speaker 6: can agree with that. But I'm saying even to have
- 40:25Speaker 6: the pool because we remember, like even with the end
- 40:27Speaker 6: of Michael Jordan there he even Michael Jordan that during
- 40:30Speaker 6: that time didn't have the pool with Jay Krous and
- 40:32Speaker 6: those guys, to actually keep that thing together because they
- 40:34Speaker 6: probably would have won a couple more championships.
- 40:37Speaker 4: Well, Lebron is is managing coaching, you know, like he's
- 40:42Speaker 4: managing the coaching situation.
- 40:45Speaker 2: That might make Lebron the greatest because because he's doing
- 40:49Speaker 2: it allinwashed I'm telling you that might like the.
- 40:57Speaker 5: Lebron the coach.
- 40:59Speaker 2: He gets to pick the players. Hell he the GM.
- 41:02Speaker 4: Oh Okay, so championships, Okay, in that in that vein
- 41:07Speaker 4: when you when you stay when you say it like that,
- 41:10Speaker 4: what you're saying is he's like the Godfather.
- 41:12Speaker 2: He got I give you, and I don't think we've
- 41:17Speaker 2: ever seen a player in.
- 41:18Speaker 4: Sport that's a difference beside of Floyd Mayweather. Outside of
- 41:22Speaker 4: a boxer, where that's kind of an individual promotion if
- 41:25Speaker 4: you're looking at a team sport. And we can sort
- 41:27Speaker 4: of relate this back to like what the conversation we
- 41:30Speaker 4: had last segment about the parents and sort of what
- 41:33Speaker 4: they're seeing and how they're moving now because they're seeing
- 41:36Speaker 4: somebody like Lebron who has total control of everything going on.
- 41:40Speaker 4: So I think of what a lot of parents are saying, Hell,
- 41:43Speaker 4: my kid is the best kid, my kids all State,
- 41:45Speaker 4: my kids Division one player. I in my kid, but
- 41:48Speaker 4: mostly I want that same level control too, And I'm
- 41:51Speaker 4: saying Lebron is I think changed the way sports parents
- 41:56Speaker 4: have thought about how to maneuver their kids, whether it's
- 42:00Speaker 4: and then we look at the same thing with them,
- 42:01Speaker 4: how to move their kids, whether it's youth league all
- 42:03Speaker 4: the way to maybe a collegiate.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Or now professional sports.
- 42:07Speaker 6: So I'm saying Lebron has been able to take all
- 42:10Speaker 6: that and say, look, this is what I want, even
- 42:13Speaker 6: at twenty years in, even on the down side of
- 42:16Speaker 6: his career. So I'm saying, you gotta look, that's got
- 42:19Speaker 6: to count on the resume and say, man, and again,
- 42:22Speaker 6: I'm a Jordan fan. I grew up WGN. I watched
- 42:24Speaker 6: every Michael Jordan graingo growing up. We had that here Loco. Yeah,
- 42:28Speaker 6: so yes, but I'm saying.
- 42:31Speaker 2: So, what I'm saying is like we got to count
- 42:32Speaker 2: that on the resume, and I don't know, we can
- 42:35Speaker 2: never look past it. I don't know where ever going
- 42:36Speaker 2: to see something like this again.
- 42:41Speaker 7: I mean, I think when we talk about and we
- 42:44Speaker 7: talk about the goat in different sports. We talk about
- 42:46Speaker 7: it in football, we talk about it in basketball. I
- 42:49Speaker 7: think in my mind when I think about hearing the
- 42:51Speaker 7: greatest of all time, I think it all is generational.
- 42:55Speaker 7: I think you have to look at the time that
- 42:57Speaker 7: the player's played, and I don't think you could compare one,
- 43:02Speaker 7: you know, facet of time to another, Like you can't
- 43:04Speaker 7: compare the nineties and what Michael Jordan did during that
- 43:07Speaker 7: time period to what's going on in the NBA now.
- 43:10Speaker 7: Same with football, Like what you're saying with Archie Manning,
- 43:13Speaker 7: his style of play compared to what we we're doing
- 43:15Speaker 7: today as a quarterback is completely different styles of play.
- 43:18Speaker 5: So to me, I can't just pick one.
- 43:21Speaker 7: You can say that there's several, I guess, yeah, But
- 43:24Speaker 7: to say there's one goat of a sport, I don't
- 43:28Speaker 7: feel like is a fair thing to even try to do.
- 43:32Speaker 6: And also when you talk about generational differences, I also
- 43:36Speaker 6: think when you're like, if you're like the nineties kind
- 43:40Speaker 6: of back, I think it's all about the play on
- 43:42Speaker 6: the court. And I think when we're looking at two
- 43:45Speaker 6: thousands and those arguing that these new players are the greatest,
- 43:48Speaker 6: we're looking holistically. So we're saying we're looking at the
- 43:51Speaker 6: play on the court, but we're also looking at, well,
- 43:53Speaker 6: what's your shoe deal, like, what's your business? Like in
- 43:56Speaker 6: Lebron's case, he has control of everything. So I think
- 44:00Speaker 6: we're adding different factors maybe that you guys don't add
- 44:03Speaker 6: because you're strictly looking at play on the field, on
- 44:06Speaker 6: the court, or what have you, and we're looking at
- 44:08Speaker 6: the totality of everything.
- 44:09Speaker 4: Okay, so if if my if my dad joined every
- 44:15Speaker 4: coaching staff that I played on coming through, that ain't
- 44:20Speaker 4: gonna make me to go even if even if I
- 44:22Speaker 4: still play in the league, and blah blah blah blah,
- 44:24Speaker 4: that ain't gonna make him the Minnesota And you played
- 44:28Speaker 4: for Minnesota and your dad was the best in his
- 44:31Speaker 4: era and you playing now, man, you let's get an
- 44:35Speaker 4: argument that's that's bragging rights like a mug, right, that's
- 44:38Speaker 4: that's I think that's bragging rights for sure.
- 44:42Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'm I'm I'm kind of over here with
- 44:44Speaker 2: Lisa because I'm.
- 44:45Speaker 4: The way that I see this is this is the
- 44:48Speaker 4: epitome of daddy ball.
- 44:50Speaker 2: Okay, see, okay, you're looking at it in the negative. No,
- 44:53Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 44:54Speaker 3: But what.
- 44:57Speaker 4: They have drafted him and and Lebron, and Lebron has
- 45:01Speaker 4: that power. So the question is why didn't Okay, so
- 45:06Speaker 4: if he's a second round pick, and if that's if
- 45:08Speaker 4: you and by your words, that's a last round pencil.
- 45:12Speaker 4: So if he was so good, why didn't somebody get him?
- 45:19Speaker 4: Why wouldn't somebody else get him?
- 45:21Speaker 6: I think the word was out by Lebron's people. Hey,
- 45:25Speaker 6: he's off limits.
- 45:26Speaker 4: From the moment he started playing basketball and there was
- 45:29Speaker 4: the reality that they could possibly play on the same team.
- 45:32Speaker 4: I don't care what team Lebron was going to play on.
- 45:35Speaker 4: His son was going to be on that team, right,
- 45:37Speaker 4: So that does epitome of daddy Okay, but let's go
- 45:41Speaker 4: get back.
- 45:41Speaker 6: So to my point, when parents are looking at it,
- 45:45Speaker 6: that's a negative thing. So so I don't think you're
- 45:47Speaker 6: looking at this based on Bronni's merit to what he
- 45:52Speaker 6: should be because so you're saying this is a negative,
- 45:54Speaker 6: it's not good for anybody.
- 45:55Speaker 4: No, it's not because somebody's parent is looking and trying
- 45:59Speaker 4: to you know. I had somebody come up to me
- 46:03Speaker 4: when I was at the high school and talked to
- 46:05Speaker 4: me and said, all my son's this, this, this and
- 46:07Speaker 4: this and that. You know, I want him to do this,
- 46:09Speaker 4: I want him to do that. I was like, well,
- 46:11Speaker 4: you know, I you know, I don't know. I gotta
- 46:14Speaker 4: see him never showed up, because what did he want? Okay,
- 46:21Speaker 4: I'm good, I'll take him. I can't. I'm gonna take him.
- 46:24Speaker 4: If you're gonna give him, I'm gonna take him. But
- 46:27Speaker 4: I can't guarantee you nothing. Lebron is walking around with
- 46:31Speaker 4: that power and he's nobody else is touching it.
- 46:37Speaker 2: It's the epitome of power in the league.
- 46:40Speaker 4: But that's a good thing, right. No, No, it's not
- 46:44Speaker 4: because anybody else that comes up and in that situation,
- 46:48Speaker 4: now teams are stuck getting everybody else's kid.
- 46:53Speaker 5: I was just gonna say that he played for how
- 46:55Speaker 5: long with his dad?
- 46:56Speaker 2: You said the other couple of minutes three.
- 47:00Speaker 7: Okay, So, so do you feel like he's a potential starter?
- 47:05Speaker 2: I would say no, so do you.
- 47:07Speaker 7: Like okay, so do you feel like he's taking a
- 47:10Speaker 7: space on the team that someone else that would be?
- 47:15Speaker 5: So that is kind of what take his side. But
- 47:20Speaker 5: I can see that.
- 47:21Speaker 4: I'm not arguing that that's far okay, But I'm saying
- 47:24Speaker 4: the fact that you just got him there, regardless of
- 47:26Speaker 4: how you got him there, you like the power you
- 47:29Speaker 4: gotta you gotta like the power because number one players
- 47:32Speaker 4: in those sports were talking about NFL, NBA, NHL, major
- 47:37Speaker 4: League Baseball, they never had that sort of power.
- 47:39Speaker 2: That ain't the power you want though that.
- 47:42Speaker 4: No, that's not the power we need that we can
- 47:44Speaker 4: get our son all the way through the system.
- 47:46Speaker 2: No, we don't need that. You need that power, We don't.
- 47:49Speaker 4: Your kid needs to be able to fit the metrics
- 47:52Speaker 4: to get in period that they.
- 47:54Speaker 7: Should deserve exactly they should earn it.
- 47:58Speaker 2: I don't know, man, I.
- 48:04Speaker 5: See his point.
- 48:05Speaker 2: I'm saying, you got that sort of power.
- 48:07Speaker 5: He's got his own resident.
- 48:08Speaker 7: I mean, to me, he's the he's the greatest, he's
- 48:10Speaker 7: one of the greatest of all time.
- 48:11Speaker 5: Without the fact that his son unrit.
- 48:17Speaker 6: I'm saying the fact that you got him, the fact
- 48:20Speaker 6: that you got your son. And again it's been an
- 48:22Speaker 6: other places, Gary Payton's son place, Tim hardaway Son's place,
- 48:26Speaker 6: Scottie Pippen's son is on his way.
- 48:28Speaker 4: So there's been other guys. But the fact that you
- 48:30Speaker 4: got him and you playing with it, You got him.
- 48:32Speaker 2: To the NBA and you playing with him, and you
- 48:35Speaker 2: had the power to do maybe somebody who wasn't necessarily ready,
- 48:39Speaker 2: I'll say like that, my dad. My dad would never
- 48:43Speaker 2: want to say.
- 48:45Speaker 4: Though, I get it, generation to the same point, to
- 48:49Speaker 4: the same point, my dad, because because you're you're you're
- 48:53Speaker 4: touting the idea of this man has got his kid
- 48:59Speaker 4: all the way to the lake.
- 49:00Speaker 2: You're touting me. So I'm saying my dad.
- 49:05Speaker 4: Would be the would be the one saying, mm hmmm,
- 49:08Speaker 4: he ain't even ready. He needs but he needs. But
- 49:11Speaker 4: here's the fact, though, what I'm saying is this.
- 49:14Speaker 6: Bronny is going into the family business and and he's
- 49:18Speaker 6: starting at the ground level of the family business.
- 49:21Speaker 2: So this is the thing that.
- 49:25Speaker 5: Opportunity.
- 49:26Speaker 6: I think lebron is gonna own multiple sports franchise and
- 49:28Speaker 6: he gonna own then NFL team. I think he's going
- 49:30Speaker 6: that direction. So I'm saying, this is ground floor where
- 49:33Speaker 6: we're starting at. You're gonna get your taste.
- 49:35Speaker 4: Now how long you stays on you because let's face it,
- 49:37Speaker 4: once Lebron leaves, then we're gonna see he probably ain't
- 49:40Speaker 4: gonna be around for that long or he's gonna have
- 49:42Speaker 4: to fight his way through. So it's gonna be a
- 49:45Speaker 4: it's gonna be an opportunity to fight his way through.
- 49:47Speaker 4: But what I'm saying is that you enter the family business,
- 49:50Speaker 4: maybe before you're reading family business, maybe before you ready.
- 49:54Speaker 5: Saying godfather, you know what I'm saying.
- 49:59Speaker 6: You want to give Lebron so for that, And I'm
- 50:02Speaker 6: saying to me at this point, he doesn't jump everybody.
- 50:05Speaker 2: Lebron is it? He is it? He number won ever
- 50:09Speaker 2: in all sports.
- 50:10Speaker 4: Please to help me, Please help me Lebron.
- 50:16Speaker 2: And beyond the fact that they can't even put.
- 50:19Speaker 4: Them in the same in the same basket, be honest,
- 50:23Speaker 4: way above him.
- 50:26Speaker 2: No, no, not come on, no, I would say that
- 50:28Speaker 2: you're right about that, and his.
- 50:30Speaker 7: Kids are way His son would not be a starting
- 50:36Speaker 7: quarterback at a at a college unless he is the best.
- 50:40Speaker 5: Yeah, he's able to do it. And the NBA is different.
- 50:42Speaker 7: You know, they can bring that, bring you know, Brouny
- 50:44Speaker 7: out for a few minutes and put on a show
- 50:47Speaker 7: and then put him back on the bench where he
- 50:48Speaker 7: probably belongs.
- 50:51Speaker 2: I don't know. A couple of shots.
- 50:55Speaker 5: Paraded him out, you.
- 50:56Speaker 2: Know, But the fact that it happened to get something
- 50:59Speaker 2: that you got, you got.
- 51:01Speaker 5: To a player did that, it's all good.
- 51:06Speaker 4: No, you can't give it him like you can't give him.
- 51:14Speaker 2: The thing.
- 51:14Speaker 4: Though, I'm submitting that it's a problem. I submit that.
- 51:17Speaker 4: I will submit to you that it's a problem. I
- 51:19Speaker 4: submit to you that it's one of those problems that's
- 51:21Speaker 4: going to not have repercussions at the top, were gonna
- 51:23Speaker 4: have recussions that the you level them down right at
- 51:26Speaker 4: high school and all that. But the fact that he
- 51:29Speaker 4: was able to do it, man, you gotta give him
- 51:31Speaker 4: something for that.
- 51:32Speaker 2: And to me, he jumps over everybody.
- 51:35Speaker 4: Again, nobody had that type of power and team sports
- 51:38Speaker 4: power is not the goat though. It's what we were
- 51:43Speaker 4: saying the dude in the ration, That's what we're saying,
- 51:47Speaker 4: y'all only looking stuff on the field.
- 51:49Speaker 2: You only you only look at performance. That's the only
- 51:53Speaker 2: thing you saw that matter. It doesn't Jordan's. As much
- 51:57Speaker 2: as Jordan was a performer on the field, he changed
- 52:00Speaker 2: the whole dynamic of merchandising ye which is going to
- 52:03Speaker 2: his legacy. Nobody ever gonna have batter shoes in apparel
- 52:06Speaker 2: than Jordan.
- 52:07Speaker 4: But that's not number one. That's not that's not that
- 52:09Speaker 4: that's power. That was power into the sneaker business. That's
- 52:12Speaker 4: power into this.
- 52:13Speaker 2: But that counsel on the resume, that count on the resume.
- 52:17Speaker 2: But it's not power. It is power.
- 52:20Speaker 4: It's not the kind of power that he can get
- 52:22Speaker 4: his son in to play and his son is five
- 52:25Speaker 4: foot five and he's gonna he gonna get three minutes
- 52:27Speaker 4: on the court.
- 52:28Speaker 6: No, because and I say this, it wasn't that he
- 52:31Speaker 6: I think Jordan probably had the power. It's just that
- 52:33Speaker 6: he had your mentality. He wasn't gonna boost his son
- 52:36Speaker 6: of who he didn't feel like was was ready to
- 52:39Speaker 6: do that.
- 52:39Speaker 2: But Lebron is thinking different.
- 52:41Speaker 6: I'm gonna get my son, bring him in on the
- 52:42Speaker 6: family business, give him a taste, see what he can do.
- 52:44Speaker 6: Because if it don't work out on this side, maybe
- 52:46Speaker 6: he can go to the office, he can work out
- 52:47Speaker 6: on the or coaching to go on that side and
- 52:49Speaker 6: work it out. So it's phenomenal to me, like I
- 52:52Speaker 6: changed my mind on it.
- 52:53Speaker 4: Listen, I'm not putting you know my grandson is not
- 52:59Speaker 4: gonna be a ball player right now.
- 53:02Speaker 2: He ain't interested in it. He don't, he ain't gonna.
- 53:04Speaker 2: He ain't gonna be to watch some old clips and
- 53:08Speaker 2: put on that thirty nine. I want him to be.
- 53:11Speaker 4: I want, I want him. I wanted to football. What
- 53:16Speaker 4: I want for him is whatever it is that he
- 53:19Speaker 4: wants now. If I can help him in that process,
- 53:23Speaker 4: right I'm all out right, Like I'd be all out
- 53:27Speaker 4: in any situation that he couldn't eat.
- 53:30Speaker 2: If he said he wanted to be a cornerback today,
- 53:32Speaker 2: I would be working with him right now.
- 53:34Speaker 6: You're going to do everything possible that give him to
- 53:37Speaker 6: where he should be success.
- 53:39Speaker 7: I think what Carls his point that he's trying to
- 53:41Speaker 7: make here is is did did lebron kind of put
- 53:45Speaker 7: it in Bronnie's head for what you want to do?
- 53:48Speaker 7: Not so much really what Bronni wanted or was drawn
- 53:51Speaker 7: to or what he was for.
- 53:52Speaker 4: Yeah, them playing together in the first NBA game, blah
- 53:55Speaker 4: blah blah blah. Who put that it's an old clip
- 53:59Speaker 4: of Lebron years ago, and he said, they asked me, well, like,
- 54:01Speaker 4: what's your dream for your son?
- 54:02Speaker 6: Blah blah blah. He said, I want, I want to
- 54:04Speaker 6: play with my son in the NBA.
- 54:05Speaker 2: So a hundred. But the fact matter the fact that okay,
- 54:11Speaker 2: but I said, like, it's again, how many parents do
- 54:14Speaker 2: we know that dreams in parents kids head that didn't
- 54:17Speaker 2: manifest to squad And the fact that he put the
- 54:19Speaker 2: dream in his head and I and it manifested and
- 54:23Speaker 2: it fulfilled this that I have.
- 54:25Speaker 5: The resources to make that dream happen, right.
- 54:29Speaker 4: And then I think most parents, I'll go back to
- 54:33Speaker 4: my parents. Okay, I'm I'm saying I want to play
- 54:37Speaker 4: pro football when when playing pro football was not even
- 54:40Speaker 4: something that you could actually legitimately talk about. My mom
- 54:44Speaker 4: supported me, my dad supported me.
- 54:47Speaker 2: Okay.
- 54:48Speaker 4: That support made it very easy for me to feel
- 54:52Speaker 4: comfortable in my dream to spend the time and know
- 54:56Speaker 4: when I'm not spending enough time to do it, my
- 54:58Speaker 4: dad wouldn't make sure, Like if I'm not running, he
- 55:00Speaker 4: didn't he didn't wake up and get and pushed me
- 55:03Speaker 4: out the door.
- 55:04Speaker 2: But if I didn't do it, what were you doing
- 55:07Speaker 2: why you ain't running? Day? You know that was for me?
- 55:11Speaker 2: Did he live my dream? Did my mom live my dream? Yes?
- 55:16Speaker 4: But my dad was like, I'm I'm gonna be I'm
- 55:20Speaker 4: gonna be there with you. I want to I want
- 55:23Speaker 4: to get there with you.
- 55:24Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. And wait, but they all
- 55:26Speaker 2: live in a dream.
- 55:27Speaker 6: For Bronni, everybody got the dream now everybody, and Lebron
- 55:31Speaker 6: made it happen.
- 55:32Speaker 2: So however he made it happen.
- 55:35Speaker 7: He say one more thing, because what what what Carl
- 55:40Speaker 7: said about his dad? When Carl went to his parents
- 55:43Speaker 7: and said this is what I want to do, they
- 55:44Speaker 7: supported him. They didn't put the idea in his head.
- 55:47Speaker 7: If Carl would have went to his parents and said
- 55:49Speaker 7: I want to be a doctor someday, then you know
- 55:50Speaker 7: they that.
- 55:52Speaker 2: You know, But what's putting dreams inside your keys? I don't.
- 55:56Speaker 2: I mean, it don't always work out well in this
- 55:58Speaker 2: case he did.
- 55:59Speaker 4: If I put a dream in my grandson or my
- 56:02Speaker 4: son's head, that's my dream.
- 56:04Speaker 2: Right, and it worked out in this case. I'm saying
- 56:07Speaker 2: a lot of times.
- 56:08Speaker 4: So what we're saying is Lebron got his dream come true.
- 56:14Speaker 2: Doesn't agree with that? Who does that?
- 56:16Speaker 6: Who get to like you the greatest one, the greatest
- 56:18Speaker 6: of all time, and you got your son?
- 56:20Speaker 2: Can he who should?
- 56:21Speaker 4: Probably would BRONI say, Lisa, if I can mute you,
- 56:25Speaker 4: I'd mute you with the new equipment, I can't, Lisa.
- 56:31Speaker 4: I'm in my mind, I'm thinking there's no way Bronnie
- 56:37Speaker 4: can turn the dance to dad. You know what, it's basketball?
- 56:41Speaker 2: Really, I don't really think that I'm I'm I'm at
- 56:44Speaker 2: the level of everybody else.
- 56:46Speaker 5: Right, or that I maybe he doesn't need I.
- 56:49Speaker 2: Got your mic blocked so.
- 56:52Speaker 7: Or maybe even saying something like I really don't think
- 56:55Speaker 7: basketball's for me.
- 56:56Speaker 5: Like you know, like I mean, I don't. You don't
- 56:58Speaker 5: know what conversations have been.
- 57:00Speaker 7: That's true, But you know, I think it is amazing
- 57:04Speaker 7: that what happened with Brownie being able to join his dad,
- 57:06Speaker 7: and you know that that's a dream come true for
- 57:08Speaker 7: lebron But is it a dream come true for Brownie.
- 57:10Speaker 5: I'm sure it is now that he's.
- 57:12Speaker 7: Experienced it, But I don't think at a young age
- 57:14Speaker 7: he maybe he did.
- 57:16Speaker 5: I don't know, nobody knows what happened.
- 57:18Speaker 4: What if I'm what if I'm the sixth man? And
- 57:21Speaker 4: Bronnie came in before me. Hey bro, this Lebron's team.
- 57:24Speaker 4: You got to do what what coach say over there?
- 57:27Speaker 4: Coach shots he just a uniform. But I legitimately think that.
- 57:34Speaker 6: Is But to me again, to me, it's secondary where
- 57:38Speaker 6: the dream came from. I'm not even looking at deep.
- 57:40Speaker 6: I'm just saying the fact that he made it. Man,
- 57:43Speaker 6: it's it's it's crazy. That's crazy that a player would
- 57:47Speaker 6: have that much power, that much authority, that much over
- 57:51Speaker 6: a French. I'm a Laker for over a French. I
- 57:53Speaker 6: was like the Lakers.
- 57:54Speaker 4: We ain't talking about the Clippers. We're not talking about
- 57:57Speaker 4: the Cavaliers. We're not talking about But it's only the same.
- 58:00Speaker 4: Team ownership is still the same now, like it's not
- 58:03Speaker 4: old school either.
- 58:04Speaker 6: It's not old school. It's not like it was not
- 58:05Speaker 6: for some franchises. But I think for something like this again,
- 58:09Speaker 6: everybody's talking about it today. They getting all the pub
- 58:12Speaker 6: in the world that may not manifest into a both
- 58:14Speaker 6: bunch of wins, but the fact that he was able
- 58:16Speaker 6: to do this, to me, he jumps everybody.
- 58:18Speaker 2: He's the greatest in sports history.
- 58:20Speaker 4: We will have to get back together as as this
- 58:23Speaker 4: goes down through the season and.
- 58:26Speaker 2: Kind of discussed this halfway through. So Lisa, we'll have
- 58:28Speaker 2: you back.
