- 0:00This is part two of the legacy.
- 0:22What can we leave that will last?
- 0:24Should we give the future or of the past success or wealth or memories fast?
- 0:32There's only one thing that will last.
- 0:35But will they cherish and hold fast to the only thing that will last?
- 0:39As each day fades from sight and the day fades tonight, what do you give that they hold tight?
- 0:48Is it worth more than that widow's might?
- 0:51The gift of faith that widow had is her legacy that will last.
- 0:59We work and work to give of wealth, of future, of joy and of health.
- 1:04When our time is at the end and we leave this place with open hand, there's only one thing
- 1:10that will last.
- 1:11But will they cherish and hold fast to the only thing that will last?
- 1:17So what you leave is worth it all, of hope and joy and eternity's call.
- 1:22It's not the memory of your life nor your history or the fight.
- 1:27The legacy you leave is great as still.
- 1:30The one true gift of Father's will.
- 1:33There's only one thing that will last that they will cherish and hold fast of faith and
- 1:39hope and of the past.
- 1:42The legacy left that will last is Christ and his gospel be steadfast.
- 1:52Simplest out of all of this message is Matthew.
- 1:59Matthew 28.
- 2:02There's one thing that we need to be reminded of and remember continually is that all the
- 2:09things that we share and experience, the archives, the history speak not just of the lives that
- 2:20were given and the names that are remembered.
- 2:22But there's one truth that speaks louder still and that's the truth of the gospel.
- 2:31The gospel of Christ, the one true legacy and the one name that matters above all names.
- 2:41Matthew 28 verse 18 through 19, legacy of making disciples.
- 2:50And Jesus came and said to them, all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
- 2:55Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and
- 3:04of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
- 3:08As I said earlier, a legacy without obedience is not a legacy.
- 3:19It's important that we as God's people live out this legacy that he has left us from the
- 3:25beginning of time.
- 3:27This legacy was firmly established before the foundation of the world and his name is
- 3:31Jesus.
- 3:32He's your legacy.
- 3:34And this legacy is eternal.
- 3:38He always was and always will be.
- 3:39He's everlasting to everlasting and nothing will ever change the reality of that legacy.
- 3:47Not only is the gospel a person, but a legacy as a person also.
- 3:53All the things that he does to his people are just a picture of the legacy he has given
- 3:58us, the reality of himself.
- 4:02So he commands us as his people to be obedient.
- 4:06First, go and make disciples.
- 4:11Go make.
- 4:14Third, the responsibility is yours to baptize.
- 4:21Get them on the same road that you've been placed on.
- 4:25In the same way that you go and make, get them on the road to obedience that they may
- 4:29go and make also.
- 4:31That's why baptism is so vitally important to the reality of leaving the legacy.
- 4:38It's living the legacy.
- 4:42Verse 20 of Matthew 28, in all reality is probably the most crucial, which we've gone over and
- 4:51over and over in the first part of the service to teach your children to obey.
- 5:02That's what it says in verse 20, teaching them to observe all that I've commanded you
- 5:08and behold, I am with you always to the end of the age.
- 5:15So why is it so important?
- 5:22Why is it so important that we teach others to observe?
- 5:29We teach others to observe because a legacy that is not obedient is not a legacy at all.
- 5:41Let me go through the important keys of the legacy.
- 5:46The responsibility of the legacy is on you, that you must take care and keep your soul
- 5:55diligent and to teach, to make known this legacy to your children.
- 6:02The legacy must be taught that these words that I've commanded you today shall be on
- 6:06your heart and you shall teach them diligently, not only as you talk with them in the house,
- 6:12but as you walk along the way and as you lie down and as you rise.
- 6:17That you keep the legacy, that means to continue it, that you shall lay up the words of mine
- 6:23in your heart, that you shall bind those words of mine as a sign on your hand, that they
- 6:29shall be as frontlets between your eyes and that you shall teach them and talk of them
- 6:37and walk and lie down and rise with your children.
- 6:44And not only that, that everyone who comes to your home shall see the legacy written
- 6:51all over your house.
- 6:55A legacy is obedience lived and obedience given.
- 7:00Faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, be careful to do all.
- 7:05And if you obey the voice of the Lord your God, he will overtake you with blessing.
- 7:16The legacy that's left, we are reminded that the legacy lived is legacy given.
- 7:25For I've delivered to you as a first importance that I also received that Christ died for
- 7:32our sins in accordance with the scriptures, that he was buried and he was raised on the
- 7:38third day in accordance with the scriptures.
- 7:40That's the message of your legacy, that your responsibility to continue from generation
- 7:49to generation with this legacy is not only to be obedient but to give it away, that you
- 7:54make disciples and you teach disciples to be obedient so that they can give it away
- 8:01also.
- 8:03That's legacy.
- 8:04So let us enjoy our history, please don't forget their legacy.
- 8:13It's the same legacy that you've been given.
