- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Malay with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Ready for another episode? Lucas: Absolutely. Today we're going to the fruit stall. You know, after all those vegetable episodes, we deserve something sweet. Luna: Fruit! Yes! I love fruit. So, what's the first phrase? Lucas: A simple one to start: 'Saya mahu buah.' This means 'I want fruit.' Let's break it down. 'Saya' is 'I', 'mahu' is 'want', and 'buah' is 'fruit'. So, 'Saya mahu buah.' Luna: Saya mahu buah. Lucas: Perfect! Now, if you see a stall with bowls of fruit, you can ask 'Berapa harga semangkuk?' That's 'How much for one bowl?' 'Berapa' means 'how much', 'harga' is 'price', 'semangkuk' is 'one bowl'. Try it. Luna: Berapa harga semangkuk? Lucas: Great! And if you want to taste before you buy, say 'Boleh saya rasa?' which means 'Can I taste?' 'Boleh' is 'can', 'saya' is 'I', 'rasa' is 'taste'. 'Boleh saya rasa?' Luna: Boleh saya rasa? Lucas: Excellent. Now let's learn two common fruits: 'pisang' for banana and 'epal' for apple. 'Saya mahu pisang.' 'I want a banana.' 'Saya mahu epal.' 'I want an apple.' Luna: Saya mahu pisang. Saya mahu epal. Lucas: Good. And if you want to buy by weight, say 'Timbang satu kilo' meaning 'Weigh one kilo'. 'Timbang' is 'weigh', 'satu' is 'one', 'kilo' is 'kilo'. 'Timbang satu kilo.' Luna: Timbang satu kilo. Lucas: Let's put it all together in a little scene. You walk up to the stall. You say 'Saya mahu buah.' The seller asks 'Buah apa?' meaning 'What fruit?' You say 'Saya mahu pisang. Berapa harga semangkuk?' They say 'Lima ringgit semangkuk.' That's five ringgit. You say 'Boleh saya rasa?' They let you taste. You like it, so you say 'Timbang satu kilo.' Luna: Oh, I can see it. Can we practice that dialogue? Lucas: Sure. I'll be the seller. You're the customer. Ready? Luna: Yep. Lucas: Selamat pagi! Saya mahu buah. Luna: Saya mahu pisang. Berapa harga semangkuk? Lucas: Lima ringgit semangkuk. Luna: Boleh saya rasa? Lucas: Ya, silakan. Luna: Timbang satu kilo. Lucas: Perfect! You just bought bananas at a fruit stall. Let's review all the phrases. 'Saya mahu buah.' Luna: Saya mahu buah. Lucas: 'Berapa harga semangkuk?' Luna: Berapa harga semangkuk? Lucas: 'Boleh saya rasa?' Luna: Boleh saya rasa? Lucas: 'Saya mahu pisang.' Luna: Saya mahu pisang. Lucas: 'Saya mahu epal.' Luna: Saya mahu epal. Lucas: 'Timbang satu kilo.' Luna: Timbang satu kilo. Lucas: You know, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Malay, we have a small way you can support the show. A handful of listeners chip in monthly through buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo, and that's literally what funds making this many episodes. Luna: Yeah, it keeps us ad-free and going. We really appreciate it. Lucas: So try imagining yourself at a fruit stall. What would you say first? Luna: Saya mahu buah. Lucas: Exactly. Then maybe ask for a specific fruit. 'Saya mahu epal. Berapa harga semangkuk?' Luna: Saya mahu epal. Berapa harga semangkuk? Lucas: And if you want to taste, don't forget 'Boleh saya rasa?' Luna: Boleh saya rasa? See you next episode! Luna: Selamat tinggal!
