- Lucas: Hey Luna, ready for another episode? Luna: Always. What are we learning today? Lucas: Today we're going to the post office. Imagine you need to send a letter or a package in Spanish. Luna: Oh, that's useful. I've definitely had to do that before. Lucas: So our first phrase is 'Quiero enviar una carta.' That means 'I want to send a letter.' Luna: Quiero enviar una carta. Lucas: Perfect. 'Quiero' is 'I want', 'enviar' is 'to send', 'una carta' is 'a letter'. Luna: Quiero enviar una carta. I want to send a letter. Lucas: Yes. Now if you need a stamp, you say 'Necesito un sello.' Luna: Necesito un sello. Need a stamp. Lucas: Exactly. 'Necesito' is 'I need', 'un sello' is 'a stamp'. Luna: So if I'm at the post office, I could say 'Necesito un sello para una carta.' Lucas: That's great! 'Para una carta' means 'for a letter'. Let's practice both together. 'Quiero enviar una carta. Necesito un sello.' Luna: Quiero enviar una carta. Necesito un sello. Lucas: Now for a package, we say 'Quiero enviar un paquete.' Luna: Quiero enviar un paquete. Send a package. Lucas: And you'll need to ask '¿Cuánto cuesta enviar un paquete?' — How much does it cost to send a package? Luna: ¿Cuánto cuesta enviar un paquete? Lucas: Yes. 'Cuánto cuesta' is 'how much does it cost'. You'll also hear '¿Adónde va?' — 'Where is it going?' Luna: ¿Adónde va? So they ask me the destination. Lucas: Right. You can answer 'Va a España' or 'Va a México'. And when you hand it over, you say 'Aquí está' — 'Here it is'. Luna: Aquí está. Simple enough. Lucas: Let's imagine a mini scene. I'm the clerk, you're the customer. Luna: Okay, let's do it. Lucas: Hola, ¿en qué puedo ayudarle? Luna: Hola, quiero enviar una carta. Lucas: Muy bien. ¿Adónde va? Luna: Va a Madrid. Lucas: Necesita un sello. Son dos euros. Luna: Aquí está. Lucas: Perfecto. Gracias. Luna: That felt real. I like it. Lucas: And if you're sending a package, you might say 'Quiero enviar un paquete a México. ¿Cuánto cuesta?' Luna: Quiero enviar un paquete a México. ¿Cuánto cuesta? Lucas: Exactly. Now, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Spanish, you know we keep these episodes ad-free. A couple of dollars a month on buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo is what keeps them going. It genuinely makes a difference. Luna: Yeah, it's a small thing that adds up. We appreciate every bit. Lucas: Okay, back to phrases. Let's review what we have today. Luna: Good idea. Lucas: Our five phrases: 'Quiero enviar una carta.' 'Necesito un sello.' '¿Cuánto cuesta enviar un paquete?' '¿Adónde va?' 'Aquí está.' Luna: Quiero enviar una carta. Necesito un sello. ¿Cuánto cuesta enviar un paquete? ¿Adónde va? Aquí está. Lucas: You've got them. Try to use them next time you're at a post office, even if just in your head. Luna: I will. Thanks, Lucas. Lucas: Practice these until we meet again. Bye Luna. Luna: Bye everyone!
