- 0:08Leyla Zmeskal: Hello and welcome to Boozy Banter with Friends.
- 0:12Trisha Smith: Join us this week as we explore the supernatural,
- 0:16Leyla Zmeskal: with a little sass,
- 0:18Trisha Smith: the unexplained,
- 0:19Leyla Zmeskal: and a side of snark,
- 0:20Trisha Smith: and tales of other worldly shenanigans.
- 0:23Leyla Zmeskal: Grab your favorite spirit and join me, Leyla,
- 0:26Trisha Smith: and me, Trisha, and meet us on the other side.
- 0:37Leyla Zmeskal: Hello. I thought I'd give you a normal one again.
- 0:44Trisha Smith: Right. I don't know. It's not really normal anymore, because you haven't been doing it very often.
- 0:48Leyla Zmeskal: I know, I've been kind of shaking things up.
- 0:50Trisha Smith: Yeah.
- 0:50Leyla Zmeskal: For a couple times, I went with the dramatic Hello, welcome.
- 0:54Trisha Smith: Dramatic.
- 0:56Leyla Zmeskal: I mean, it seemed dramatic.
- 0:58Trisha Smith: Very, very dramatic.
- 1:00Leyla Zmeskal: Extremely.
- 1:01Trisha Smith: It's so dramatic.
- 1:03Leyla Zmeskal: 100% How are you doing?
- 1:08Trisha Smith: I'm good. How are you?
- 1:11Leyla Zmeskal: Peachy.
- 1:11Trisha Smith: Anything new?
- 1:13Leyla Zmeskal: I mean, I got some shit in the works, but I ain't saying nothing. Right now.
- 1:14Leyla Zmeskal: In case it falls through and then I'd be like, never mind.
- 1:19Leyla Zmeskal: Cancel those comments a few weeks ago.
- 1:25Trisha Smith: I hate that.
- 1:27Leyla Zmeskal: So I ain't saying nothing. So I did watch a really cute movie the other day.
- 1:31Trisha Smith: Did you?
- 1:32Leyla Zmeskal: I did.
- 1:32Trisha Smith: What was it called?
- 1:34Leyla Zmeskal: It was the latest Ghostbusters.
- 1:37Trisha Smith: What? What latest Ghostbusters?Like with the women?
- 1:41Leyla Zmeskal: No, it was, there's another Ghostbusters after that.
- 1:44Trisha Smith: What?
- 1:44Leyla Zmeskal: It's super fucking cute.
- 1:46Trisha Smith: I have not seen or heard about it.
- 1:49Leyla Zmeskal: Oh my god. It's called Afterlife.
- 1:52Trisha Smith: Oh, so it's not called Ghostbusters?
- 1:54Leyla Zmeskal: It's called Ghostbusters Afterlife.
- 1:56Trisha Smith: Oh, okay.
- 1:57Leyla Zmeskal: It was in 2021.
- 1:59Trisha Smith: Oh, who's in it?
- 2:00Leyla Zmeskal: There's appearances by Danny Aykroyd, Bill Murray. Ernie Hudson. It's also got the kid from the Stranger Things in it.
- 2:11Trisha Smith: Okay.
- 2:12Leyla Zmeskal: It's got this really cute girl that's like the biggest geek, but she's so cute.
- 2:15Leyla Zmeskal: She does such a great job in the role. Paul Rudd
- 2:21Trisha Smith: Oh, okay.
- 2:23Leyla Zmeskal: Is in it and the very, very, very end of the movie, it's got Sigourney Weaver.
- 2:28Trisha Smith: No, Rick Moranis?
- 2:30Leyla Zmeskal: No Rick Moranis, but it does have, the girl in it.
- 2:34Trisha Smith: Annie Potts?
- 2:35Leyla Zmeskal: Yes.
- 2:35Trisha Smith: Okay,
- 2:36Leyla Zmeskal: She's in, she's only in there in the very beginning. But I tell you what, I really liked it.
- 2:41Trisha Smith: I'm going to have to look for it.
- 2:42Leyla Zmeskal: It's so cute. If you remember, when we did the episode about the Warren's Deep Dive. I gave a joke about the atoms, don't trust them.
- 2:51Trisha Smith: Adam, Adam.
- 2:53Leyla Zmeskal: Yeah. I got that from the movie. Because I was watching the movie, and I was like so funny. Yeah, it was super cute. I highly recommend it. I really liked it.
- 3:05Trisha Smith: I'll have to check it out. What'd you watch it on?
- 3:07Leyla Zmeskal: I've rented it from Amazon Prime, but it was
- 3:11Trisha Smith: Alright, I have to check it out. I watched The worth it to me.
- 3:15Trisha Smith: King's Man?
- 3:17Leyla Zmeskal: I did too. The latest one?
- 3:19Trisha Smith: Umm-hmm.
- 3:19Leyla Zmeskal: Did you like it?
- 3:20Trisha Smith: I did not.
- 3:22Leyla Zmeskal: I've seen the The Kingsmen, and I thought it was okay.
- 3:25Trisha Smith: I, Okay. So this is the third one.
- 3:28Leyla Zmeskal: Yes.
- 3:28Trisha Smith: The first one I loved
- 3:30Leyla Zmeskal: It was good. I remember.
- 3:31Trisha Smith: The second one was like. I mean, come on, it was so far fetched with her special Island and all that. That was weird. And then this one was so depressing.
- 3:46Leyla Zmeskal: It was sad.
- 3:47Trisha Smith: Wasn't it? There were so many like, in the first one so many gadgety things that made the little fight scenes
- 3:53Leyla Zmeskal: Was this, this was supposed to be the prequel though, right?
- 3:56Trisha Smith: It was, and it was just so. There wasn't a lot of It was interesting how they, at the end of the movie, it was action, not the kind of action I expected with the people that were in the movie. I don't remember the the names of the people that were in the movie, but I just expected more and it interesting they're like, this is what we're doing.
- 4:11Trisha Smith: just wasn't there. And I was like, What a letdown.
- 4:14Trisha Smith: Especially because I felt, I feel like I'm invested in the whole series. Because I liked the first one so much. So I am disappointed.
- 4:25Trisha Smith: Right.
- 4:25Leyla Zmeskal: And then you're like, oh, okay,
- 4:34Trisha Smith: I'm laughing, I'm kind of laughing to myself right now because I'm like yeah, the second was so far fetched with their little island but then the first one, with his little cell phone thing, that then all the people went to the special place, you know, thing to get away from. And it's like, that was equally far fetched. I don't know what I'm talking about. But anyways, yeah, I mean, it was entertaining enough.
- 5:00Leyla Zmeskal: I, yeah.
- 5:01Trisha Smith: I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. Like unless you were a super huge fan and you really, really want to see the prequels. Do it.
- 5:09Leyla Zmeskal: I'd recommend Ghostbusters though.
- 5:10Trisha Smith: Okay, I'll have to watch that.
- 5:11Leyla Zmeskal: Totally recommending that. That's funny that I did watch, you know, that one too. The King's Man.
- 5:17Trisha Smith: Yeah. So other than that, I mean, like I'm having a hard time finding. I did. I regret my choices sometimes. I started reading a book in a series I love. I love, they're a duo, Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. They write a series about Agent Pendergast.
- 5:37Trisha Smith: He's an FBI agent. I think I've mentioned
- 5:41Leyla Zmeskal: I remember you talking about this before.
- 5:42Trisha Smith: Yes. And I've been following them for years. Well they have like a spin off series that they've been writing with Nora Kelly, and she's an archaeologist. And
- 5:52Leyla Zmeskal: Okay, I remember you mentioning her before as well.
- 5:54Trisha Smith: And Cory Swanson, who's now an FBI agent, but she was in one of the earlier Pendergast novels as a, like a teenager.
- 6:03Leyla Zmeskal: That's probably why I don't remember that name.
- 6:05Trisha Smith: Right. And I think the book was called Still Life
- 6:05Leyla Zmeskal: Oh.
- 6:05Trisha Smith: So I'm like, oh, he'll like this. And then I can with Crows. And she was a teenager, troublemaker and he like, takes her under his wing.
- 6:12Trisha Smith: And as she grows up through the books, she, they don't really mention her anymore. But she becomes an FBI agent. And she's featured in these Nora Kelly books. And I'm on the third one that was just released in mid February, or I was. I finished it now. It's called Diablo Mesa.
- 6:32Trisha Smith: And It's very good. And I thought my husband might like it because it involves Roswell.
- 6:41Trisha Smith: kill two birds with one stone. I can, we can enjoy an audio book together while we take this road trip. And I get to like, technically read my book at the same time.
- 6:51Leyla Zmeskal: Exactly, exactly.
- 6:52Trisha Smith: Not a good idea.
- 6:52Trisha Smith: Because he had so many questions. He's like, Who's this guy? Why does he sound like
- 7:01Leyla Zmeskal: That's so funny.
- 7:01Leyla Zmeskal: I can picture Don doing that this?
- 7:06Leyla Zmeskal: too.
- 7:06Trisha Smith: Right. And then, you know, like, I don't do audio books and
- 7:10Leyla Zmeskal: Right.
- 7:10Trisha Smith: the person that was reading it
- 7:12Leyla Zmeskal: Right.
- 7:12Trisha Smith: It's a man and it's a woman, and it's another
- 7:12Leyla Zmeskal: Was not very good?
- 7:12Trisha Smith: No, she just made some of the characters sound really, like questionable. Not what I envisioned in my mind at all because she she alters her voice to woman
- 7:28Leyla Zmeskal: Who does not alter their voice ever?
- 7:33Trisha Smith: Anyway, so it was just very disappointing. The book, because I had to listen to the whole thing, which was 11 hours. You know, we listened to it on the way up and then on the way back. But yeah, too many questions from that man. I'm like, I will never ever listen to an audio book that I'm currently reading, with you again. And then of course, we get there. And I want. You know, normally I read before I go to bed, so I want to find out what's gonna happen. I can't.
- 8:03Leyla Zmeskal: Because he's invested in the story as well.
- 8:06Trisha Smith: So I can't skip ahead, because I have to listen to it. So
- 8:09Leyla Zmeskal: Why did you skip ahead?
- 8:10Trisha Smith: I know.
- 8:11Leyla Zmeskal: I would do audiobooks. I would love to be like, a voice actor.
- 8:18Trisha Smith: Really? Not you.
- 8:20Leyla Zmeskal: But I would totally love to do it.
- 8:24Trisha Smith: I would listen, if you read.
- 8:26Leyla Zmeskal: Thank you. Kenny, my old employee, he always always said that I should be either a phone sex operator or
- 8:31Trisha Smith: I think we talked about this a couple episodes ago go into voice acting. Because he always said, Leyla, every time you got on a phone, your voice changed. I'm like, I don't know what you mean everytime I, I got on the phone, my voice will change. I have no idea. Kenny's gonna listen to this and like she fucking just did it.
- 9:01Trisha Smith: about your, your Oh no. We talked about that podcast called Operator.
- 9:06Leyla Zmeskal: Operator.
- 9:07Trisha Smith: You said the same thing. Oh my goodness. Okay. So if you're wondering why Leyla has such a potty mouth today, more than usual.
- 9:17Leyla Zmeskal: It's our drinks.
- 9:17Trisha Smith: It's the drink.
- 9:20Leyla Zmeskal: God Damn it
- 9:21Trisha Smith: Yeah. Today's a good one. It's, we gave it a nice name. It's called, well, it's, I shouldn't say we gave it. I'm taking all the credit.
- 9:29Leyla Zmeskal: We dubbed the name.
- 9:31Trisha Smith: Take all the credit here. It's the Bee's knees, which I've heard many times.
- 9:37Leyla Zmeskal: I mean, that's a saying.
- 9:38Trisha Smith: And I've seen it on a lot of menus for different, you know, restaurants and it's not an uncommon drink. But we made it with that fancy pants Empress gin.
- 9:53Leyla Zmeskal: Mm hmm. That was my French for hahaha
- 10:02Trisha Smith: So we named it the Royal Bee's Knees, because you know, Empress.
- 10:07Leyla Zmeskal: Of course.
- 10:07Trisha Smith: And it's so simple. It's just gin, and I squeezed some lemon in, and it's got some honey syrup. But it's like, I don't like lemon. That was my first mistake. And this gin is so pretty. I want to use it in everything.
- 10:23Leyla Zmeskal: It's so pretty, but
- 10:25Trisha Smith: But it's so flowery.
- 10:28Leyla Zmeskal: As someone who is. I know we had a gin drink, like a few weeks ago.
- 10:34Trisha Smith: Right.
- 10:35Leyla Zmeskal: And it was, for me, okay. I am not a traditional gin drinker. So this particular beverage for me, was so floral.
- 10:47Trisha Smith: Yes.
- 10:48Leyla Zmeskal: And even though there was like a honey syrup in there, it did nothing
- 10:55Trisha Smith: Right.
- 10:55Leyla Zmeskal: to squash the taste of the gin. I. this. I have to say this drink was not my favourite.
- 11:01Trisha Smith: Right. I actually added more honey syrup, thinking that would like, make it sweeter.
- 11:05Leyla Zmeskal: You saw my face.
- 11:07Trisha Smith: I know. And you were, you looked at me and you're like,
- 11:09Leyla Zmeskal: I think it intensified the floral flavor, the gin flavor, and you're like, how did it do that? I'm like, I don't know.
- 11:16Trisha Smith: And all I could taste was the lemon. Now. I'm not kidding when I say I took half a lemon and squeezed, not even a hard squeeze. I just squeezed some juice in there and then divided it between two cocktails. And I still could just taste so much lemon.
- 11:31Leyla Zmeskal: I didn't taste the lemon, it was very gin forward for me. I mean, we'll have hit or misses.
- 11:38Trisha Smith: Right.
- 11:38Leyla Zmeskal: It's beautiful.
- 11:39Trisha Smith: But yeah, it wasn't one of my favorites.
- 11:41Leyla Zmeskal: Yeah, not mine either.
- 11:42Trisha Smith: So yeah, so we switched wine.
- 11:46Leyla Zmeskal: We totally did.
- 11:48Trisha Smith: We switched to wine.
- 11:49Leyla Zmeskal: Anyway.
- 11:50Trisha Smith: Well, today, I have just a super short story for you.
- 11:56Leyla Zmeskal: I'm okay. I think we've done
- 11:58Trisha Smith: It's a fun
- 11:59Leyla Zmeskal: done some pretty heavy stories.
- 12:01Trisha Smith: Yeah, it's not.
- 12:01Trisha Smith: It's super, like, there's only so much information about it.
- 12:04Trisha Smith: It's not super in depth. I keep wanting to say it's a fun story.
- 12:08Trisha Smith: It's really not.
- 12:12Leyla Zmeskal: Compared to maybe what we. We've done a lot of like, really in depth and very long stories. So when you say fun, I think it's fun in a short, sweet, there you go kind of way.
- 12:23Trisha Smith: To the point.
- 12:23Trisha Smith: Yeah, and it's not ghosty. It's not
- 12:27Leyla Zmeskal: It's not ghosty?
- 12:28Trisha Smith: It's not ghosty.
- 12:28Trisha Smith: It's not scary. It's not
- 12:30Leyla Zmeskal: Oh I'm excited about it.
- 12:31Trisha Smith: But it's, it's a little weird. It's more of a mystery. Do you remember last summer? Diane did a story about Eugene the mummy?
- 12:42Leyla Zmeskal: Yes, I do. Oh my god,
- 12:44Trisha Smith: Riding around with people.
- 12:46Leyla Zmeskal: I know. God Dammit, I miss you, Diane.
- 12:51Trisha Smith: That was a good one. I mean, it's so entertaining.
- 12:55Leyla Zmeskal: You know what, I miss the way she tells stories.
- 12:57Trisha Smith: I know. So this story is also about a body in the window. There's a bridal shop named La Popular in Chihuahua, Mexico with a mannequin in the window that made her debut on March 25 1930.
- 13:19Leyla Zmeskal: Nice.
- 13:20Trisha Smith: Yeah, she's been there a long time. 90 years.
- 13:23Leyla Zmeskal: That's a long time.
- 13:24Leyla Zmeskal: Right.
- 13:24Trisha Smith: Right. She was wearing a new wedding gown, but that wasn't what caught the locals attention. It was how lifelike she appeared in the window. Her face was incredibly detailed with wide set eyes, long lashes and a flush to her cheeks that made her seem very real. Most mannequins of the time, were plain and stiff with very little color, except the makeup or eyes that were painted on.
- 13:55Trisha Smith: But this one had creases in her skin, varicose veins.
- 14:00Leyla Zmeskal: That's a little awkward.
- 14:02Trisha Smith: Right, and hands so lifelike that it made people stop and stare. And start talking. It was pointed out that there was a strong resemblance between the mannequin and the daughter of the shop owner Pascuala Esparza, who had recently died from a black widow spider bite on her wedding day.
- 14:24Trisha Smith: Soon a rumor began to spread that Pascuala was so grief stricken that she had her daughter's remains mummified.
- 14:35Leyla Zmeskal: Was it she or he?
- 14:36Trisha Smith: She.
- 14:38Leyla Zmeskal: It was a mom?
- 14:39Trisha Smith: The mom did it.
- 14:40Leyla Zmeskal: Oh for. Oh, cuz I heard the story before and I thought it was a dad the whole time.
- 14:45Trisha Smith: There's a man that owns the shop now. But the original shop owner was a woman and this is her daughter. But she had her daughter's body mummified and then put her in the window in a wedding dress, so she that could be the bride that she never got to be in life. Although Mrs. Esparza denied the rumor, no one believed her and it continued to spread throughout the years.
- 15:10Trisha Smith: Even the daughter's name had been forgotten as the story of La Pascualita began to take on a life of its own. It was even said, now this is like a far fetched rumor. But it was even said that a visiting French magician became so lovestruck, that at night, he would bring her to life and take her dancing around the town.
- 15:38Leyla Zmeskal: I'm gonna cry bullshit on that one.
- 15:42Trisha Smith: He's a French magician.
- 15:45Leyla Zmeskal: Don't give two shits.
- 15:47Trisha Smith: You never know.
- 15:47Trisha Smith: Those Frenchmen
- 15:50Leyla Zmeskal: I still cry, suave as they may be, I'm still gonna cry bullshit.
- 15:57Trisha Smith: I'm not, I'm not arguing with you. In the course of how many? 90 years, many people have claimed that her eyes follow you as you walk around the store and others have said that they've walked past only to turn around and she's moved just slightly. Only the owner and trusted employees are allowed to handle her when her dresses are changed twice a week under complete secrecy. They put a curtain up around her.
- 16:29Leyla Zmeskal: Okay, because that's, they're just perpetuating the
- 16:33Trisha Smith: Of course.
- 16:34Leyla Zmeskal: the legend about her.
- 16:35Trisha Smith: For 90 years. Of course. According to the Mexican spiritual almanac.
- 16:43Leyla Zmeskal: Oh, okay. Oh, we're getting serious. Its the Mexican spiritual almanac. We're serious.
- 16:48Trisha Smith: I did not even know there was like, is it like
- 16:50Leyla Zmeskal: It's but it sounds very official and serious.
- 16:50Leyla Zmeskal: the weather?
- 16:51Trisha Smith: Is it by decade? I don't know. The day she's appeared, March 25 is the Day of Incarnation. So some locals and brides to be actually pray or leave gifts for her at the shop.
- 17:09Trisha Smith: Do you know what the Day of Incarnation is?
- 17:11Leyla Zmeskal: The Day of the Dead?
- 17:12Trisha Smith: Nope.
- 17:13Leyla Zmeskal: What?
- 17:13Trisha Smith: I had to Google it.
- 17:14Leyla Zmeskal: Cinco de Mayo?
- 17:14Trisha Smith: No. You wanna guess again? Cinco de Mayo.
- 17:25Leyla Zmeskal: Not the Day of the Dead, not Cinco de Mayo, um,
- 17:28Trisha Smith: It's a Catholic thing. You're never gonna to get it.
- 17:31Leyla Zmeskal: Fourth of July.
- 17:31Trisha Smith: Nope. Day of incarnation is celebrated on March 25 each year. More importantly, since it occurs nine months before the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day, the Annunciation marks the actual incarnation of Jesus Christ, the moment that Jesus was conceived and that the Son of God became the Son of the Virgin.
- 18:01Leyla Zmeskal: What?
- 18:02Trisha Smith: Exactly. I told you, it's a Catholic thing.
- 18:08Leyla Zmeskal: I did have, like my second guess was still in May.
- 18:11Trisha Smith: This is
- 18:12Leyla Zmeskal: I get half credit.
- 18:13Trisha Smith: March. March 25.
- 18:15Leyla Zmeskal: I get an eighth of a credit for the M month.
- 18:18Trisha Smith: So
- 18:20Leyla Zmeskal: Moving on.
- 18:22Trisha Smith: So basically, the Day of Incarnation is the Conception of Jesus. So others have said it's good luck for a successful marriage to wear one of the dresses that was displayed on La Pascualita.
- 18:38Leyla Zmeskal: Of course they can charge top dollar for those pieces.
- 18:42Trisha Smith: If you think that she was a corpse, would you want to wear one of those dresses
- 18:46Leyla Zmeskal: They have. They have strange traditions, Trisha.
- 18:49Trisha Smith: I don't know. It's just weird. I don't care where you're from. Wearing the dress off the body of a corpse is weird.
- 18:56Leyla Zmeskal: Well,
- 18:56Trisha Smith: Different times?
- 18:57Leyla Zmeskal: I wasn't gonna say it. I mean, it is one of my favorite phrases. Trisha just different times back then.
- 19:08Trisha Smith: No, no, no, no.
- 19:08Trisha Smith: This is still going on today.
- 19:12Trisha Smith: There's no different times.
- 19:14Leyla Zmeskal: I can't.
- 19:14Trisha Smith: So could this actually be a bride corpse? Of course, there's been a lot of debate.
- 19:21Leyla Zmeskal: Yes.
- 19:22Trisha Smith: There's a lot of opinions.
- 19:24Leyla Zmeskal: Yes.
- 19:24Trisha Smith: Mostly between doctors, funeral directors morticians. But especially the locals that live there,
- 19:32Leyla Zmeskal: Of course.
- 19:32Trisha Smith: and see her all the time. So but I don't know.
- 19:35Leyla Zmeskal: Okay, think about it. There was Diane's story about, what was his name?
- 19:40Trisha Smith: Eugene.
- 19:41Leyla Zmeskal: Eugene the mummy.
- 19:41Leyla Zmeskal: And then we have, down in Key West, the story that I did about the doctor who stole his, love of his life and kept her corpse in decent condition. However, she did not look like herself when she was discovered.
- 20:05Trisha Smith: Right.
- 20:06Leyla Zmeskal: So, I don't know.
- 20:09Trisha Smith: So there's the argument that Chihuahua Mexico has a semi arid climate, so that can help preserve the body.
- 20:20Leyla Zmeskal: Okay.
- 20:20Trisha Smith: Like, think about Egyptian mummies.
- 20:23Leyla Zmeskal: Okay, Key West is more humid.
- 20:25Trisha Smith: Right. Which humidity is like the worst. It's the death
- 20:30Leyla Zmeskal: It's the death of the, of the undead.
- 20:32Trisha Smith: Yeah. But how can an embalmed body that's handled twice a week and displayed in a store window with sunlight, last for 90 years?
- 20:43Leyla Zmeskal: I don't believe it. I think it was probably the work of a very good artist.
- 20:49Trisha Smith: Right. And then there's her face. I read that a body when it's thoroughly flushed with a strong embalming fluid, the lips and eyelids will noticeably dry out, leaving them shrunken and wrinkled.
- 21:03Leyla Zmeskal: Ewww.
- 21:03Trisha Smith: Like jerky.
- 21:05Leyla Zmeskal: Gross.
- 21:06Trisha Smith: Well, again, think about Egyptian mummies.
- 21:08Leyla Zmeskal: Yeah.
- 21:09Trisha Smith: So but La Pascualita's face looks too soft. And even if they had used some sort of Cosmetology wax, I mean, I don't know that you could cover up that kind of dehydration.
- 21:23Leyla Zmeskal: There's cosmetology wax?
- 21:26Trisha Smith: Is that all you heard out of that?
- 21:30Leyla Zmeskal: I want to know more about this cosmetology wax.
- 21:33Trisha Smith: They're for morticians, you know, to like, fill in the gaps when things
- 21:39Leyla Zmeskal: What?
- 21:40Trisha Smith: Like, if you're in a very serious accident and you lose a chunk. Then they just like,
- 21:46Leyla Zmeskal: Fill it in with wax?
- 21:47Trisha Smith: Yeah. And then you can like put makeup over it.
- 21:50Leyla Zmeskal: Oh. Oh, okay.
- 21:51Trisha Smith: Or, you know, build up, like if the
- 21:55Leyla Zmeskal: Jerky lips?
- 21:55Trisha Smith: Like what if they take out their false teeth and things like that, and they just build it back up. But that's a lot. I mean, 90 years, that's a lot
- 22:04Leyla Zmeskal: That's a lot of cosmetology wax.
- 22:05Trisha Smith: Absolutely. When you take into consideration that Vladimir Lenin's corpse has been on display for almost as long as this mannequin's been in the window. 1924 was when they put his body on display.
- 22:19Leyla Zmeskal: Wow.
- 22:19Trisha Smith: With a team of experts and a climate controlled environment, and doesn't look nearly as good as La Pascualita, it's highly unlikely she's an actual person.
- 22:32Leyla Zmeskal: I agree with that statement. I think that it was a genius marketing ploy of someone 90 years ago who was a fantastic artist.
- 22:39Trisha Smith: Maybe they were asked to create a mannequin that looked similar to her daughter, if her daughter actually died?
- 22:45Leyla Zmeskal: Absolutely.
- 22:46Trisha Smith: Many experts overwhelmingly agree that without flawless embalming and a constant environment, and continuous work on the body, it would be almost impossible. But the main reason there hasn't been 100% certainty that she's not real, between experts and tourists alike, is her hands.
- 23:12Trisha Smith: Like when you see pictures of her hands, they're just too realistic.
- 23:18Leyla Zmeskal: Really.
- 23:18Trisha Smith: The skin is discolored. Like it's almost like it's graying, like on the tips, and the creases are deep, like an actual hand.
- 23:29Leyla Zmeskal: Really?
- 23:30Trisha Smith: And the cuticles have dried out and drawn back from the nail bed. They look like a dead person's hands.
- 23:37Leyla Zmeskal: No. Maybe they cut like, arms off of like, corpses.
- 23:41Trisha Smith: Somebody commented on that. They're like, what if she is totally a mannequin but with like a real person's, but
- 23:49Leyla Zmeskal: Body parts.
- 23:49Leyla Zmeskal: still,
- 23:50Trisha Smith: No, I don't know that how those would survive any better than an entire body.
- 23:52Trisha Smith: Because of her hands though, that's why even with all the evidence that says otherwise, people still believe she is an embalmed corpse and tourists still visit La Casa De La Pasqualita.
- 24:09Leyla Zmeskal: I totally would visit that site, that shop too.
- 24:12Trisha Smith: Yeah, they give, I mean if you go online, you can get the address, and they welcome tourists to come and, and view her.
- 24:20Leyla Zmeskal: Oh, absolutely. I would absolutely say, oh shit, you know where we are. We have to walk by here.
- 24:26Trisha Smith: We accidentally made it to Chihuahua Mexico. We have to go to this bridal shop.
- 24:31Leyla Zmeskal: Says no one ever but if they did.
- 24:34Trisha Smith: What else is there to see there?
- 24:36Leyla Zmeskal: In Chihuahua?
- 24:36Leyla Zmeskal: Lots of breeders that breed Chihuahuas?
- 24:39Trisha Smith: Like dogs?
- 24:40Leyla Zmeskal: Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico.
- 24:43Trisha Smith: I don't think they just have dogs there.
- 24:47Leyla Zmeskal: It's Chihuahua.
- 24:50Trisha Smith: I'm gonna have to Google that.
- 24:51Leyla Zmeskal: Am I wrong?
- 24:52Trisha Smith: What's in Chihuahua Mexico?
- 24:53Leyla Zmeskal: We'll definitely have to do some Googles on that.
- 24:55Trisha Smith: Because now I need to know.
- 24:57Leyla Zmeskal: Betcha the world class breeder of Chihuahuas are there.
- 24:59Trisha Smith: You think?
- 25:00Leyla Zmeskal: Maybe.
- 25:01Trisha Smith: No.
- 25:02Leyla Zmeskal: If I was a breeder of chihuahuas, I'd be like, you know where I'm setting in my shop? Chihuahua, Mexico.
- 25:07Trisha Smith: They're probably from like New York City.
- 25:10Leyla Zmeskal: New York City?
- 25:12Trisha Smith: Haven't you watched Beverly Hills Chihuahua?
- 25:16Leyla Zmeskal: No.
- 25:18Trisha Smith: Clearly.
- 25:18Leyla Zmeskal: Have you?
- 25:19Trisha Smith: Yeah, I absolutely have.
- 25:22Leyla Zmeskal: I totally don't know how to respond to that right now, Trisha.
- 25:25Trisha Smith: I have kids.
- 25:26Leyla Zmeskal: For once, I'm absolutely speechless.
- 25:33Trisha Smith: Anyhow.
- 25:34Leyla Zmeskal: Exactly I would absolutely visit that bridal shop though. Yeah, I would want to see for myself.
- 25:39Trisha Smith: Yeah, well, for now, you can see the pictures, which I have, because they're super creepy. Now her face looks, I don't know, to me, her face looks like a mannequin with too much makeup.
- 25:49Leyla Zmeskal: Right.
- 25:50Trisha Smith: But her hands.
- 25:53Leyla Zmeskal: Different story?
- 25:54Trisha Smith: Yeah.
- 25:55Leyla Zmeskal: So that may give validation to where they kill unsuspect tourists hand models.
- 26:00Trisha Smith: No.
- 26:02Leyla Zmeskal: I mean, are you a hand model? Visit Chihuahua, Mexico. Come to our bridal shop.
- 26:04Leyla Zmeskal: We'll take goof care of you and give you the VIP treatment. Chop off your arms. Stick them on our mannequin.
- 26:14Trisha Smith: So how many people have left Mexico with, and they're handless? No one.
- 26:21Leyla Zmeskal: But how many people have never left Mexico?
- 26:26Leyla Zmeskal: Dare I say.
- 26:27Trisha Smith: Just hanging around with no hands?
- 26:28Leyla Zmeskal: Dun dun dun.
- 26:30Trisha Smith: Okay, well, we can debate that later. Now. I need another glass of wine because
- 26:35Leyla Zmeskal: it was just too much shenanigans.
- 26:37Trisha Smith: It was too much.
- 26:37Trisha Smith: Yes, this was too much.
- 26:39Leyla Zmeskal: This was a fun one though. I enjoyed it.
- 26:41Trisha Smith: Yeah, it's, I mean, again, not really haunted, but it's a mystery.
- 26:47Leyla Zmeskal: The whole other thing about Lenin. Was it Lenin?
- 26:51Trisha Smith: Yes.
- 26:52Leyla Zmeskal: I did not know that. So that was a really good
- 26:55Trisha Smith: Yeah, his body is still on display today. That's almost 100 years.
- 27:00Leyla Zmeskal: That was a really good addition to the story because I had no idea about that. And that was
- 27:05Trisha Smith: And he's not looking so hot. He's not wearing bridal gowns and getting his makeup done every two weeks.
- 27:10Leyla Zmeskal: That's probably why he's not looking so hot.
- 27:13Trisha Smith: Well. But he does have climate control
- 27:17Leyla Zmeskal: and a team of experts.
- 27:19Trisha Smith: Yeah, handlers.
- 27:21Leyla Zmeskal: That's a good one. I liked it.
- 27:22Trisha Smith: Thank you. All right.
- 27:25Leyla Zmeskal: I liked it.
- 27:25Trisha Smith: Until next week.
- 27:27Leyla Zmeskal: Cheers.
