- 0:00So what's it like being back? Ah? Man, it's great. It's
- 0:03almost unreal, you know, to come in to work every day and walk
- 0:07into this facility. You know I was once in. I'm super grateful,
- 0:12really thankful to be able to come back here and come back home right.
- 0:16And I understand that at this level, you know, a lot of coaches
- 0:21don't get the opportunity to come back home right or go back to their alma
- 0:24mater. So I'm really thankful to coach Moore, coach Charlton for getting me
- 0:28back home just to be a part of this journey because you know, something
- 0:32really special. How does that help you? Being a former player coaching in
- 0:36a program you've played in, that that's a help. I think it just
- 0:38helps, you know, my word resonate with these players, right, uh,
- 0:45in terms of having them understand that I've once sat in that meeting room,
- 0:50right, I've you know, shed my blooded sweat and tears on this
- 0:53practice field, you know, at the rent in the weight room. And
- 0:58you know, I think that's what's most of them born. For me as
- 1:00a coach's you know, that relationship and you know, I'm able to continue
- 1:04to build and cultivate that you know, as we come along here and and
- 1:10and work towards uh the season, we have some of the adjustments maybe made
- 1:15in the kind of the wide receiver area from from last year where you know,
- 1:19I've just beat up a little bit. But right, yeah, that
- 1:22was kind of what people kind of pointed at. Yeah, I mean in
- 1:25terms of adjustments. You know, I wasn't here last year, right so,
- 1:29but healthwise, just like you said, we got guys back healthy.
- 1:32We have a few new pieces right through the transfer portal and if you guys
- 1:36got a chance to see some of them throughout camp and uh, you know,
- 1:40uh, those guys will be some valuable assets to the past game.
- 1:42Who's impressed to you's actually coming from Springs, coming from Springing to the fall.
- 1:49I would say Kylie Hicks has done a really good job. You know,
- 1:53he's a young guy that's continuing to develop and uh uh the last few
- 1:57days he's made a lot of big plays for us, and we need him
- 2:00to continue to you know, stay on the rise. Basically, a couple
- 2:04of graduationers, short reporters. Those guys what do they bring, you know,
- 2:07obviously they first year here already have experienced play us above us. First
- 2:13year here, and I think just like you said, you know, what
- 2:15they bring to the table of the value that they bring to the table is
- 2:19that they're veterans, right, They've been in multiple offenses, so they were
- 2:22able to come here and and really do a good job picking up our offense
- 2:25and playbook and you know, get right step right in and make an impact.
- 2:30And uh that's what we're looking for, uh, for those guys,
- 2:34and you know they're gonna bring a lot of value. It's a competition,
- 2:36and like in the group, you know we're doing the guys, it's been
- 2:39really competitive, right, you know, no starters are set at the moment,
- 2:43so guys are fighting, they're still competing, they're getting extra work in.
- 2:46But at the same time, you know, it's a brotherhood. We've
- 2:51got a great culture within our room and U guys help each other out.
- 2:54No animosity, no big ego, none of that stuff. It's been like
- 2:58working with Cameras so a couple of years series bout ye will, Yeah,
- 3:02how has she been able to speak with the guys leading by from his example?
- 3:07Absolutely? Cam is a great leader for us in the room. And
- 3:10I told him day one, you know, when I got hired here,
- 3:14I'm gonna look to him for some leadership for the room, and he's been
- 3:17doing a really good job stepping up in that area. And I mean he
- 3:21has a lot of experience, right, and he has a lot of adversity
- 3:23that others can learn from. And uh, those guys are really you know,
- 3:27listening to him and uh real learning through his experiences as well. I
- 3:31coachhould take it a little slow, caught the ball here in the corner.
- 3:35But for me, I did the show Bush, Yeah that was colleague ships
- 3:38YEA true? Is that the design? I may have been Zion, I'm
- 3:43not sure. Yeah. Can you tell us about the fifth qualities of this
- 3:49room? You know, I know that everyone brings something specially the table when
- 3:52he gets some up this group, whether it's speed, maybe it's signfle What
- 3:55is one physical aspect of his wider secret us? Look now? Yeah,
- 4:00I would say the ability to make a big play. Right. If you
- 4:03look at our room, it's truly different shape and size as you look around
- 4:10it, right, and you know we have bigger body guys like Casey.
- 4:14You know, we have your smaller guys with with a lot of speed like
- 4:16Cam and James Burns. You know, we have some guys that are more
- 4:19athletic, you know, and maybe have some size and speed, right,
- 4:24So you know we're gonna be looking to our guys to make an impact not
- 4:28only in the past game, but in the run game as well. If
- 4:30you really had to mold that really link, right, because those these guys
- 4:33just got here, right, Well, how big of a challenge is that
- 4:36for the position coach? I think it's really challenging. But you know,
- 4:43you try to set the foundation of building the relationship first, right, And
- 4:46that's what type of coach I am. You know, I look at myself
- 4:49as a player coach, and you know, as long as that as long
- 4:54as you can set that relationship with those guys and let them know that you
- 4:57have their best interests not only on the but off the field as well.
- 5:00You know, those guys who run through a brick wall for you, and
- 5:03we're going to continue to build here. How did you see yourself camp full
- 5:08game coach? How did you start writing? Yeah, I'm gonna be honest.
- 5:13Throughout my playing career, I never really thought about it. I know
- 5:16when I was with when the Kansas City Chiefs letting me go back in twenty
- 5:19sixteen, you know, I was talking with the GM and some of their
- 5:25guys in the front office and they asked me. They're like, hey,
- 5:27man, we see you being a coach one day, and you know that
- 5:30may have planned to see a seed you know, uh in me just hearing
- 5:33that. But I didn't get in the coaching until twenty nineteen, right,
- 5:38so three years after that. But you know now I feel like I'm walking
- 5:41in my purpose, writing my passion to be a servant leader and to use
- 5:45my experiences to to help you know, these young men both falling off the
- 5:49field. We after playing at the highest level. What's the white teaching eighteen
- 5:54nineteen year olds for? Its playing for a really hard a game. Yeah.
- 5:58I think my experience starting out coaching at the high school ever really helped
- 6:01me because you have to know, you know what motivates these young men,
- 6:06right, you have to know you know what makes them laugh, you know
- 6:11what what what kind of ticks them off? And but with that experience,
- 6:15I'm able to you know, pair my knowledge and my experience, uh playing
- 6:17at the highest level, and you know, again it's all about relationships.
- 6:21Fifth, for me, what's your first coaching job? Where was that?
- 6:24My first coaching job job was with my former wide receiver coach from when I
- 6:29was here, coach Master Sosimo at Connor High School and West Side Flift,
- 6:31Okay. And did you know when you first started that, Yeah, this
- 6:34is for me. What were you? What was it? Some uncertainty I
- 6:39knew right away. And then you know, just getting back to the game
- 6:44now as a coach, it made me fall in love right with the game
- 6:46that I once played and I once loved now as a coach, right,
- 6:50a little less tall on my body, right, but just the fulfillment of
- 6:56uh, you know, teaching a young young man something and seeing into fruition
- 7:00was something that was really gratifying for me. Coach. One of the newer
- 7:04guys that you've been able to coach on now is Brett muff and House
