- 0:00Speaker 1: Hello, I is Mackenzie available.
- 0:03Speaker 2: This is her.
- 0:04Speaker 3: I'm Mackenzie. This is Gabe Amanda calling from Big ninety
- 0:06Speaker 3: eight point seven. How are you doing this morning?
- 0:08Speaker 2: I'm doing good.
- 0:10Speaker 3: Do you have a quick second to talk to us
- 0:12Speaker 3: on the radio? I sure do well, McKenzie. We had
- 0:15Speaker 3: a lot of people reach out to us over the
- 0:17Speaker 3: past week and they're thinking about you. You've got some
- 0:22Speaker 3: really tough news that was dished out to you.
- 0:24Speaker 1: Do you mind sharing what's been going on?
- 0:26Speaker 2: Sure? I was recently diagnosed with breast cancer invasive dextel
- 0:33Speaker 2: carcinoma and am starting treatments here in the next few days.
- 0:38Speaker 1: So Mackenzie, if you don't mind me asking how old
- 0:40Speaker 1: are you?
- 0:41Speaker 2: I'm thirty three.
- 0:43Speaker 1: So young.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Can you share with what was going on leading up
- 0:46Speaker 3: to this? Was it just out of the.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Blue kind of in the spring? I noticed a lump,
- 0:53Speaker 2: and I guess in any typical situation, I can just
- 0:55Speaker 2: say if you see it, go get it checked, because
- 0:57Speaker 2: I didn't. And it has metastasized into some lymph nodes
- 1:02Speaker 2: for sure one if not too well no more after surgery.
- 1:07Speaker 2: So right now is just kind of getting the ball
- 1:11Speaker 2: rolling with treatment and playing it by ear as we go.
- 1:13Speaker 2: But yeah, it just started. I noticed a lump in
- 1:17Speaker 2: my breast and I kind of ignored it, and as
- 1:20Speaker 2: life is busy, and I didn't really think much about
- 1:22Speaker 2: it until I would be like, oh, I still have
- 1:24Speaker 2: that there, And so finally I decided I noticed it
- 1:27Speaker 2: was bigger, and I figured I needed to go get
- 1:30Speaker 2: it checked out. So I got it checked out, and
- 1:32Speaker 2: within three days of a mammogram, I was getting biopsies,
- 1:36Speaker 2: and four days later I got the news that it
- 1:38Speaker 2: was cancer.
- 1:39Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, And you're doing what a lot of
- 1:42Speaker 1: people do.
- 1:43Speaker 3: You're busy, You've got a three, five and thirteen year old.
- 1:47Speaker 3: That was probably a big distraction as yeah, yeah, this's
- 1:50Speaker 3: going on, but you weren't really paying attention to it.
- 1:53Speaker 4: You're right, yeah, And this is one of those it's
- 1:56Speaker 4: kind of sad reality diseases that doesn't care how old
- 1:59Speaker 4: you aready hear, you're only thirty three. I mean, I'm
- 2:01Speaker 4: thirty four years old. We probably graduated high school right
- 2:05Speaker 4: around the same time. It really puts an emphasis on
- 2:08Speaker 4: getting checked as soon as you possibly can and things
- 2:12Speaker 4: like that. Right, and so with only being thirty three
- 2:16Speaker 4: years old, what are the next kind of steps as
- 2:19Speaker 4: you go about your your treatments and what's the next
- 2:21Speaker 4: kind of steps in the process here.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yeah, so they tomorrow morning, I'll be getting my chemo
- 2:27Speaker 2: port in. They want me to do three months of
- 2:29Speaker 2: chemo surgery, whether it's a single or a double mastectomy,
- 2:34Speaker 2: and then possibly continue with three more months of chemo.
- 2:39Speaker 2: We have been looking into some other options as well,
- 2:42Speaker 2: as we know everybody knows how hard chemo and radiation
- 2:45Speaker 2: is on your healthy part of your body, so we're
- 2:48Speaker 2: kind of exploring other options there as well. Based on
- 2:51Speaker 2: how fast growing this was, I think that, you know,
- 2:53Speaker 2: modern medicine is the best way to start, and that's
- 2:55Speaker 2: where we're going to start and just really take it
- 2:58Speaker 2: day by day. I have an some support system, so
- 3:01Speaker 2: that's really really nice.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Well you really do.
- 3:05Speaker 3: I know you're a single mom, like I had mentioned,
- 3:07Speaker 3: of three kids, and I know you're probably really busy.
- 3:09Speaker 3: But we had numerous people, one in particular, Amanda Mowen,
- 3:13Speaker 3: reach out to us saying, not only are you a
- 3:15Speaker 3: busy mom, it is a lot to handle. I think
- 3:17Speaker 3: everybody listening right now can't even imagine emotionally, physically, financially
- 3:21Speaker 3: all of that. But every time somebody meets you, you're
- 3:26Speaker 3: the friendliest, most outgoing person that people could ever meet.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Even with this diagnosis. You wear a smile on your
- 3:32Speaker 3: face and you have a positive attitude, and all of
- 3:34Speaker 3: us listening right now you can just hear that in
- 3:36Speaker 3: your voice.
- 3:36Speaker 1: You're ready to fight this.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I definitely think that kindness goes a long ways,
- 3:41Speaker 2: and first impressions are big things.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Well on behalf of Big Idea point seven's Christmas Wish program.
- 3:47Speaker 3: Our friends at Gateway Chevrolet and Hartland Chevy Dealers. We
- 3:51Speaker 3: want to ease a little bit of this financial burden
- 3:53Speaker 3: with your three kids, and we want you to.
- 3:55Speaker 1: Just enjoy the holiday.
- 3:57Speaker 3: I know you've got a big fight ahead of you,
- 3:59Speaker 3: but you can do it, and we want to give
- 4:00Speaker 3: you a check for one thousand dollars.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Wow, that's awesome.
- 4:05Speaker 3: Thank you so much for sharing your story. I know
- 4:08Speaker 3: it's not easy, but you've got this, Mama. You've got this,
- 4:10Speaker 3: and you have, like you said, an amazing support system
- 4:13Speaker 3: around you. And honestly, the positive attitude that you have
- 4:16Speaker 3: right now, keep that because that's half the battle.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Absolutely, I've been I've been doing my best. Thank you
- 4:22Speaker 2: so much. This is honestly just life changing, how much
- 4:26Speaker 2: support and like things are just coming out of the
- 4:29Speaker 2: woods work. I can't thank you enough.
- 4:31Speaker 1: You are so welcome and big hugs to.
- 4:33Speaker 2: You, thank you, thank you. Merry Christmas.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Merry Christmas to you as well
