- 0:00Speaker 1: You're listening to Bill Handle on demand from KFI AM
- 0:04Speaker 1: six forty. Here's Neil Savedra camp on KFI AM six
- 0:12Speaker 1: forty live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. Hey, everybody, it's
- 0:16Speaker 1: Neil Savadra in the morning crew. Happy to be with you. Hey,
- 0:20Speaker 1: pop me up again.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Well in there and compare in there, Hanley and another
- 0:23Speaker 2: good one.
- 0:26Speaker 3: Hey everybody. Well, I have four boys, and that's how
- 0:30Speaker 3: they definitely show love by throwing each other on the floor,
- 0:35Speaker 3: pushing each other and just rough plane and they say, Mom,
- 0:41Speaker 3: we love each other. This is how we do it.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Their ages are twenty seven, twenty four, seventeen, and they
- 0:49Speaker 3: even do that to my eleven year old. And you
- 0:52Speaker 3: know what, he shows love back.
- 0:56Speaker 1: And that's a mom. Moms can't lie. That's a mom
- 1:00Speaker 1: who backs me up on that. I love you, Kno.
- 1:04Speaker 1: He's never let me get up. You just keep pushing
- 1:06Speaker 1: me down. Hey, he pushed me down and down and
- 1:08Speaker 1: down and down and down and down. I love you, man,
- 1:12Speaker 1: I'm not afraid to say it. I love you, Kno.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I love you, Stephen, Kno. I don't put my government
- 1:19Speaker 1: name out there. Don't be doing that. My government name, Stephen. Yeah, oh,
- 1:31Speaker 1: I'm sorry people, I do. The guy is a treat.
- 1:35Speaker 1: I come in and I like a pet dog when
- 1:37Speaker 1: I see him all excited and he's not twelve. Everybody
- 1:41Speaker 1: thinks he's twelve. How old are you, kono?
- 1:44Speaker 4: They do defend me like I'm very young, which I appreciate.
- 1:48Speaker 4: I'm in my thirties seven, but.
- 1:50Speaker 1: They act like you're twelve, and like I'm I'm I'm
- 1:53Speaker 1: picking on you. I'm not well, you are picking on me,
- 1:55Speaker 1: but I am, yes, groan, he's a grown man relatively.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I'm not tall. But let let let me seal this.
- 2:03Speaker 1: Does your dad your own blood? I think it's funny
- 2:07Speaker 1: or not funny some of us affair. My dad likes
- 2:09Speaker 1: it when I get put in my place.
- 2:11Speaker 4: So see see, my dad's a bigger fan of you
- 2:17Speaker 4: than that's for sure.
- 2:20Speaker 1: And he was in law enforcement, right he was, so
- 2:23Speaker 1: he's also so I got law enforcement. I'm backed up
- 2:28Speaker 1: by by law enforcement and moms. That's right, you are.
- 2:33Speaker 4: Two things I never got along with.
- 2:35Speaker 3: I love you.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Moms all right. Back in the Year in Review, as
- 2:42Speaker 1: we look back on twenty twenty five, sliding into the
- 2:45Speaker 1: new year, Heather Brooker has been kind enough amongst the
- 2:49Speaker 1: seventeen duties behind the board this morning to walk us
- 2:55Speaker 1: through some of the entertainment stories of twenty twenty five.
- 3:00Speaker 1: She was just talking about the merger of Netflix and
- 3:03Speaker 1: Warner Brothers. I will tell you that I think creativity
- 3:12Speaker 1: survives all things. I really do. I think, I, you know,
- 3:16Speaker 1: not to get too deep. As I said, people don't
- 3:19Speaker 1: like when you get deep on the radio. They want
- 3:20Speaker 1: us to be stupid. I'm sorry. Although although Eva hit
- 3:26Speaker 1: us up earlier saying, Neil, get deep, get deep.
- 3:29Speaker 2: I like when you get deep, and somebody said, like, oh,
- 3:31Speaker 2: this is the best conversation I've heard a long time.
- 3:35Speaker 1: We're just it's a more casual show today. People aren't
- 3:38Speaker 1: necessarily all back into it. But but I believe that
- 3:45Speaker 1: when scripture says that we're creating the image of God,
- 3:50Speaker 1: it means that we're creators. Good people create, bad people destroy.
- 3:56Speaker 1: That's pretty simple math to me. So I think creativity
- 4:00Speaker 1: and sends the structure. Whatever the structure is, creativity will transcend.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I think we saw that when there was more gatekeeping.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Do you remember prior to YouTube in the like, there
- 4:11Speaker 1: was so much gatekeeping, The equipment was so expensive, everything
- 4:16Speaker 1: was I remember as a young punker in a band
- 4:20Speaker 1: to pay one thousand dollars for two hours or whatever
- 4:24Speaker 1: it was to record a demo tape was insane. The
- 4:28Speaker 1: later years when I got to be about eighteen or
- 4:31Speaker 1: nineteen or so, when the technology task cam came in
- 4:34Speaker 1: with multi track units that you could buy for a
- 4:38Speaker 1: thousand bucks that you could start recording your own and
- 4:42Speaker 1: that's what we did. And I think YouTube allowed a
- 4:45Speaker 1: lot of young artists, actors, entertainers, directors and stuff to
- 4:51Speaker 1: put out their own stuff. And I think that will
- 4:56Speaker 1: happen regardless of what takes place, and we either are
- 5:00Speaker 1: entertained by it or we're not right.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I mean, I think any advancement in technology is going
- 5:06Speaker 2: to be, you know, potentially beneficial and helpful in some ways.
- 5:11Speaker 2: I think the concern is when you have too much
- 5:14Speaker 2: power in the hands of one company and one person.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Because Ted Sarandos runs Netflix. I mean Greg Peters is also,
- 5:21Speaker 2: you know, the co president there, but Ted Sarandos is
- 5:24Speaker 2: the main figurehead for Netflix. And when you have so
- 5:27Speaker 2: much power and control in the hands of one person,
- 5:31Speaker 2: then I think the concern is that other forms of
- 5:35Speaker 2: art may get sort of squeezed out. So yes, while
- 5:38Speaker 2: you may have advances in technology and there may be
- 5:40Speaker 2: some benefits to it, having one entity have so much
- 5:45Speaker 2: power and control is just a little concerning.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't disagree on that basic point.
- 5:51Speaker 2: I think you're right, especially when we're on the precipice.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Precipice of so much happening with AI, which is one
- 5:57Speaker 2: of the other big stories of the year, Tilly Norwood.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Do you remember the story Tilly Norwood was the first
- 6:04Speaker 2: fully AI generated performer. I used that in air quotes
- 6:08Speaker 2: performer created by AI Studio and.
- 6:14Speaker 1: Elaine. I'm gonna say're at Vandervelden.
- 6:16Speaker 2: So this was very upsetting to a lot of people
- 6:19Speaker 2: because you know, sag after got involved, the unions are
- 6:24Speaker 2: saying this is not an actor, but talent agencies were like,
- 6:26Speaker 2: wait a minute, can we make money off of her?
- 6:28Speaker 2: And then let's sign her. So that was a big
- 6:30Speaker 2: story that happened there. Also, this is an interesting one
- 6:34Speaker 2: to me. Remember the Sydney Sweeney has great genes ad
- 6:39Speaker 2: Remember that Cono's raising his fist in joy.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I'm assuming that's what's happening there. Joy and excitement.
- 6:45Speaker 2: I know Gary from the Gary and Shannon Show is
- 6:49Speaker 2: probably excited about this story as well. Who's the actress
- 6:53Speaker 2: Sidney Sweeney. So she did an American Eagles ad campaign
- 6:57Speaker 2: Kano be subtle, Be subtle, and you.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Know, she had the line city Sweeney has great genes.
- 7:04Speaker 1: Stupid stupidest concern and controversy. People got upset.
- 7:09Speaker 2: They said that the line was flirting with white supremacists.
- 7:12Speaker 1: No, seriously, that's all it was. It was like, yeah,
- 7:17Speaker 1: she she's got a good figure and she's a pretty girl.
- 7:21Speaker 1: That's what it says. She's got great gens.
- 7:23Speaker 2: I mean, you know, we all talk about our genes
- 7:25Speaker 2: when we talk about our parents and all that stuff.
- 7:27Speaker 2: So it was definitely controversy that was overblown quite a bit.
- 7:32Speaker 2: So that was one big story that happened this year,
- 7:35Speaker 2: something you know along the lines of you know what's
- 7:39Speaker 2: happening with Hollywood movies. They're making a lot of big
- 7:44Speaker 2: reboots and and aging franchises keep coming back, like the
- 7:48Speaker 2: Jurassic Yeah, the Jurassic World, you know reboot that came
- 7:52Speaker 2: out this year did not do as well as they
- 7:54Speaker 2: thought it would. The two movies that did really, really
- 7:58Speaker 2: well were original films, and they were horror movies. Sinners
- 8:04Speaker 2: just made an insane amount of money. And then Zach
- 8:07Speaker 2: Cregger's weapons also caught people off guard. Those are both
- 8:11Speaker 2: original stories and they were in the horror genre. So
- 8:15Speaker 2: Hollywood is looking at that going, oh, should we do
- 8:18Speaker 2: a few more of those?
- 8:19Speaker 1: See, that's what I'm saying. Regardless it if you eat crap,
- 8:25Speaker 1: they'll make crap, yeah, because that's what sells. Yeah, so
- 8:30Speaker 1: we still get the vote. I don't care how big
- 8:32Speaker 1: of a company it is. You know how big companies
- 8:35Speaker 1: become small companies serving as stuff we don't want to eat. Yeah,
- 8:38Speaker 1: So I will tell you this though some of the
- 8:41Speaker 1: things that I've seen. I saw there's this guy in
- 8:44Speaker 1: the UK. His name is Greg Johnson, spelled like UK
- 8:49Speaker 1: like g R E I G or something Greg Johnson.
- 8:56Speaker 1: And he's a maker. And for those who don't know,
- 8:58Speaker 1: I'm a maker. I like making prop replicas and building things.
- 9:03Speaker 1: I have a shop at home and all kinds of stuff.
- 9:07Speaker 1: And I follow him because he makes stuff out of junk.
- 9:09Speaker 1: He gets like, I'm a big fan of kit bashing,
- 9:12Speaker 1: where people make props or replicas or things just out
- 9:15Speaker 1: of stuff, and he does that. But he's also a
- 9:18Speaker 1: filmmaker and he did this film I don't know, within
- 9:21Speaker 1: the last year called The Wilds fifteen minutes short, and
- 9:26Speaker 1: it's super entertaining. And I'd rather go and support him
- 9:30Speaker 1: and find stuff like that he's a YouTuber and find
- 9:33Speaker 1: his stuff, then just be dictated to by Netflix and
- 9:42Speaker 1: Warner Brothers as a conglomerate. So I agree with you, Heather,
- 9:47Speaker 1: that it is of concern, But I trust creatives and
- 9:52Speaker 1: they will always push back whatever system is there to
- 9:57Speaker 1: create and we if as long as we don't, you know,
- 10:02Speaker 1: succumb to them forcing that down our throats and pick
- 10:07Speaker 1: and choose wisely, they'll have to. We're the ones paying them.
- 10:11Speaker 2: But the creatives, like you're like, you're talking about creatives
- 10:14Speaker 2: separately from like a studio creative team or whatever. Your creatives,
- 10:18Speaker 2: like your indie filmmakers, your short filmmakers, you know, people
- 10:22Speaker 2: even YouTube creators to you know whatever. They don't hold
- 10:25Speaker 2: the purse strings in the same way that these major
- 10:29Speaker 2: studios do. They don't have the access to get your
- 10:32Speaker 2: movie in theaters in the same way for now, for now.
- 10:35Speaker 1: But I will tell you this, I could say the
- 10:37Speaker 1: same thing about the union. The union has gotten the
- 10:40Speaker 1: Union's gotten too big I pay the union to work.
- 10:44Speaker 1: It's ridiculous now, I being part of sag Aftra, and
- 10:50Speaker 1: because I don't use their services, I don't get anything
- 10:53Speaker 1: from them. Now there may be a day that I do,
- 10:56Speaker 1: you know, Heaven forbid, I need to use them for
- 10:58Speaker 1: some reason. But this is a union house, and they
- 11:01Speaker 1: make my life more difficult because the Jesus show that
- 11:05Speaker 1: I produce is non union because it's national, so I
- 11:09Speaker 1: can't do it in the very same studio I'm doing
- 11:11Speaker 1: this in because it's non union, so I have to
- 11:16Speaker 1: do it differently for it, like it literally makes my
- 11:21Speaker 1: They tell people so much that they can't work. You
- 11:24Speaker 1: have a lot of young actors, now, what is it
- 11:26Speaker 1: called when you you separate from the union corps? Yes,
- 11:32Speaker 1: you a FI corps. Yeah, so there I hear a
- 11:34Speaker 1: lot of young especially commercial actors doing that because they
- 11:38Speaker 1: can't make a living.
- 11:39Speaker 5: Well.
- 11:40Speaker 2: You know, my daughter is an actor. She's non union
- 11:42Speaker 2: right now, and she her agents have told her like,
- 11:47Speaker 2: you got to get the union, got to get the union.
- 11:48Speaker 2: And I'm like why because you know to your point earlier,
- 11:53Speaker 2: now that there is so much more access for actors
- 11:56Speaker 2: and you know, filmmakers around the world to submit their
- 11:59Speaker 2: tapes online, and you know, they're seeing people now around
- 12:02Speaker 2: the world. For one part, they could see tens of
- 12:03Speaker 2: thousands of people. Sure, and you will really limit yourself
- 12:08Speaker 2: if you're just you know, in the Union, to only
- 12:12Speaker 2: Union projects, because for those who don't know, when you're
- 12:15Speaker 2: in the Union, there's global Rule number one that says
- 12:17Speaker 2: you cannot work on any non union project, a project
- 12:20Speaker 2: that is not SAG after. So you're limiting yourself to
- 12:23Speaker 2: anything that is not Union related. And when you're a
- 12:26Speaker 2: new actor that's up and coming and you're looking for
- 12:28Speaker 2: new opportunities and experience to gain, then you're basically cutting out,
- 12:33Speaker 2: like you know, seventy eighty percent of potential work. And
- 12:37Speaker 2: for me, as as someone who is also an actor
- 12:40Speaker 2: and who does audition and act regularly, I personally don't
- 12:44Speaker 2: like it that they now can see thousands and thousands
- 12:47Speaker 2: of people around the world for roles that used to
- 12:50Speaker 2: just be in Los Angeles, sure, or just be in
- 12:52Speaker 2: Texas or you know, wherever the area was is that
- 12:55Speaker 2: you live. I'm not a huge fan of that. So, yes,
- 12:59Speaker 2: they're there are some great things about technology and advancements
- 13:02Speaker 2: and that sort of things, but as far as like
- 13:04Speaker 2: work goes, it's the industry is so there's so many
- 13:08Speaker 2: people that want to be a part of it, and
- 13:10Speaker 2: sometimes it does not feel like there is enough work
- 13:12Speaker 2: to go around.
- 13:14Speaker 1: Oh and you know, and let's be honest, the union
- 13:17Speaker 1: didn't help things with multiple strikes back to back, right, yeah,
- 13:21Speaker 1: I mean seriously that. But yet I talked to many
- 13:25Speaker 1: people in the industry that didn't want to go on strike,
- 13:29Speaker 1: but they had to.
- 13:31Speaker 2: They had to because as a union you are supposed
- 13:33Speaker 2: to be unified and all standing together as an aspurude them.
- 13:37Speaker 1: They lost a lot of money and continued.
- 13:39Speaker 2: To they did, and that led to some of the
- 13:41Speaker 2: other you know, big stories that happened this year. You know,
- 13:44Speaker 2: the strikes forced a lot of work to go overseas.
- 13:50Speaker 2: That means right now London has become what LA used
- 13:54Speaker 2: to be. LA sound stages right now are half empty.
- 13:58Speaker 2: There's hardly any you know, there's a far less work
- 14:01Speaker 2: happening than years ago here in LA. But in London,
- 14:05Speaker 2: their books solid in the soundstage is there. Everybody is
- 14:09Speaker 2: over there because of their aggressive tax incentives.
- 14:12Speaker 1: And we used to go there for massive films because
- 14:15Speaker 1: they have those big studios and where the Star Wars
- 14:18Speaker 1: and the Right is the Lost Art and things like
- 14:20Speaker 1: that because you needed the space.
- 14:22Speaker 2: But that's but now it's all changed because now they're
- 14:25Speaker 2: filming there regularly because of these massive tax incentives that
- 14:29Speaker 2: they're getting there, which is the other big one of
- 14:32Speaker 2: the other big stories that happened here is California past
- 14:36Speaker 2: the big film and TV tax credit. Hoping to bring
- 14:39Speaker 2: more filming back from around the world because now it's
- 14:42Speaker 2: not just going to other states, it's gone around the
- 14:45Speaker 2: world and it may be too late for LA. They're
- 14:48Speaker 2: hoping it isn't too late to bring some of those back.
- 14:51Speaker 2: I've been talking in depth to the people over at
- 14:54Speaker 2: film LA. I keep in touch with them regularly about
- 14:57Speaker 2: how much is actually explain who they are to people
- 14:59Speaker 2: that film LA is the local is the the cities
- 15:04Speaker 2: organization that has to approve filming permits essentially for Los Angeles,
- 15:11Speaker 2: and they know exactly how many projects are filming, from
- 15:15Speaker 2: short films and commercials to movies, TV shows, and how
- 15:19Speaker 2: many sound stages are are full. They have data on
- 15:22Speaker 2: all of that at any given time.
- 15:24Speaker 1: So and if you're in the LA area, we used
- 15:30Speaker 1: to get you know, littered with their their's their bulletins
- 15:37Speaker 1: once a month maybe where they would tell you you're
- 15:40Speaker 1: gonna they are going to be filming in your area.
- 15:42Speaker 1: It was great.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Yeah, they have to notify people in the neighborhoods and
- 15:45Speaker 2: stuff like which, you know, meant that things were busy
- 15:47Speaker 2: in the industry.
- 15:48Speaker 1: Now I've gotten maybe two this year.
- 15:52Speaker 2: Yeah, there's not much. There's not much happening because truly,
- 15:55Speaker 2: filming in Los Angeles is at its the lowest it's
- 16:00Speaker 2: in such a long time. But they're hopeful that with this,
- 16:03Speaker 2: you know, the new Film and TV tax credit which
- 16:05Speaker 2: is now at gone up.
- 16:09Speaker 1: It was passed i think in July. Yeah, and credit
- 16:11Speaker 1: where credit is due. I'm not a huge fan of
- 16:14Speaker 1: Gab Newsoen, but but this was smart and needed to
- 16:18Speaker 1: be done well.
- 16:19Speaker 2: And also to your point, it wasn't just him. There
- 16:22Speaker 2: was there is a ton of people behind the scenes
- 16:24Speaker 2: in the industry, from the unions and and you know
- 16:28Speaker 2: other lobbying groups that have been pushing for this for
- 16:30Speaker 2: quite some time. So yes, it is a feather in
- 16:32Speaker 2: his cap, but it is mostly the people on the
- 16:35Speaker 2: ground who work in the industry who are saying, we're hurting.
- 16:37Speaker 2: People are losing their homes, they're moving out of state.
- 16:40Speaker 2: We have to do something.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Yeah, there's two things I tried never to bitch about,
- 16:45Speaker 1: and that is truckers. Yeah, because God bless them, we
- 16:49Speaker 1: need them. So it's like, oh, that truck just you know,
- 16:52Speaker 1: get out of their way. Let them go where they're going.
- 16:55Speaker 1: They're moving, they're moving the world for us and they shoots. Yeah,
- 17:01Speaker 1: thank you, Dug and film crewis because it's like, yeah,
- 17:03Speaker 1: did they shut down streets as we but we want
- 17:06Speaker 1: them here, people, we want them here. Heather Brookers with
- 17:10Speaker 1: us as well as Matthew is producing for Ann and
- 17:15Speaker 1: uh Will's here, Kno's here. I'm here through the rest
- 17:18Speaker 1: of the week and Heather's been breaking down. We've been
- 17:21Speaker 1: looking kind of Today was just kind of a look.
- 17:25Speaker 1: We're just kind of going through the year and review
- 17:27Speaker 1: loosely and you know, conversing about it, just like some
- 17:32Speaker 1: of the things that were of interest. A lot to
- 17:34Speaker 1: go on, and I was surprised and I keep moving
- 17:36Speaker 1: things around because I'm surprised how much has taken place.
- 17:40Speaker 1: So we're looking over that and then you've got Gary
- 17:43Speaker 1: and Shannon coming up and so go nowhere. Uh oh,
- 17:49Speaker 1: and you know what Andy's in for Conway tonight, right, sure, Conno.
- 17:56Speaker 1: I'm sorry. They hate to make you, hate to make
- 17:59Speaker 1: you work, but uh, you need to make You're supposed
- 18:03Speaker 1: to know? Why? Am I supposed to know? Say? Yes,
- 18:06Speaker 1: it wasn't an email. I'm the dumb I'm the dumb
- 18:09Speaker 1: talking head. A you remember the fat ugly guy we
- 18:12Speaker 1: were talking about earlier. You are fat and ugly and dumb.
- 18:15Speaker 2: See Oh my stars, Oh let's be a little nicer.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Oh my stars is my favorite? Whose catchphrase was that?
- 18:23Speaker 1: Come on anybody? I don't know, Samantha Stevens, Oh my stars,
- 18:29Speaker 1: come on Bewitched? Okay? I made gosh yeah, And I
- 18:32Speaker 1: thought I just made that up. One of the few
- 18:34Speaker 1: blondes I was ever in love was I will tell
- 18:37Speaker 1: you speaking about that. And we were talking a little
- 18:40Speaker 1: bit about entertainment over the twenty twenty five something happened.
- 18:45Speaker 1: I don't know if it happened in twenty twenty five
- 18:47Speaker 1: or if it was twenty twenty four, but right down
- 18:50Speaker 1: the street the Warner Brothers ranch, they tore down the
- 18:54Speaker 1: Bewitched house and the house from Christmas Vacation and and
- 19:00Speaker 1: all those places. And do you know what they did?
- 19:04Speaker 1: With that space what they put up sound stages and
- 19:09Speaker 1: I was so I mean, I'm I love nostalgia. I'd
- 19:13Speaker 1: love old television and old film, and I was so annoyed.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I think one of the last things they shot there
- 19:19Speaker 1: was one division they're on the streets there. But doesn't
- 19:26Speaker 1: that go Isn't that counter to the fact that we
- 19:31Speaker 1: have less studio work here than ever right now?
- 19:34Speaker 2: It does seem sort of. They must have had their
- 19:37Speaker 2: reasons for it, I'm sure be.
- 19:39Speaker 1: Filthy Lucer, Yeah, because always filthy Lucer.
- 19:43Speaker 2: We need I feel like we need more outdoor sets
- 19:46Speaker 2: type places instead of sound stages. But maybe they feel
- 19:50Speaker 2: like with technology, you know, and CGI and AI and
- 19:54Speaker 2: all that, that they can just create an outdoor feeling.
- 19:57Speaker 2: There's a lot of AI that happens and CGI that
- 20:01Speaker 2: happens in movies that people probably don't even know about,
- 20:03Speaker 2: you know.
- 20:04Speaker 1: You know, it's funny as I was talking to my
- 20:06Speaker 1: brother Craig, who did film television in Broadway and his
- 20:10Speaker 1: husband is a cinematographer in film and television, and you know,
- 20:17Speaker 1: I fantasize with him about getting a plot of land
- 20:21Speaker 1: somewhere and building physical sets to be used because I
- 20:25Speaker 1: love them. I love walking through physical sets. You can
- 20:28Speaker 1: do it at the Paramount Ranch in Malibu Canyon and
- 20:33Speaker 1: I used to do that as a kid all the time,
- 20:36Speaker 1: and unfortunately it burned down, but they have rebuilt, I
- 20:39Speaker 1: believe since then.
- 20:40Speaker 2: You know, I used to be a tour guide at
- 20:43Speaker 2: Universal Studios Hollywood on the back lot.
- 20:45Speaker 1: So it was handle.
- 20:46Speaker 2: Yes, we've joked, we've joked about that we should give
- 20:49Speaker 2: another tour. But my favorite favorite parts of the tour
- 20:53Speaker 2: was when we would drive through the sets and show
- 20:56Speaker 2: people the you know, the the just the front of this,
- 21:00Speaker 2: there's nothing behind them, you know, the facades, the facades, yes,
- 21:04Speaker 2: and the New York. That's French for nothing behind it,
- 21:07Speaker 2: nothing behind me. Yeah, the New York cassette it.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Means false front.
- 21:12Speaker 2: But that was my favorite part of the tour, showing
- 21:15Speaker 2: people the facades because they would go, oh, like we
- 21:17Speaker 2: would show a clip from Bruce Almighty that filmed on
- 21:19Speaker 2: the New York streets. Sure, and they can look at
- 21:22Speaker 2: the Brownstones, yeah, the Brownstones and go what, oh my gosh.
- 21:24Speaker 2: So it's really neat to watch people go, wait a minute,
- 21:27Speaker 2: that wasn't actually in New York.
- 21:29Speaker 1: Oh yeah, it's it's it's the best in the way
- 21:31Speaker 1: that they make. Gosh. I love that and I've had
- 21:34Speaker 1: I've actually climbed the clock tower from Back to the
- 21:37Speaker 1: Future in the back courthouse square. Yeah. An old friend
- 21:43Speaker 1: was directing a film there and said, Hey, why don't
- 21:46Speaker 1: you come and hang out and you can be an
- 21:49Speaker 1: extra and just hang out and run around the back lot.
- 21:52Speaker 1: And I'm like, what, See, Hollywood is fun. Oh, Hollywood
- 21:57Speaker 1: is great. As much as I bash on parts of it,
- 22:00Speaker 1: I think Hollywood is great and very important to Southern California.
- 22:05Speaker 1: We need that here in LA. We have to keep
- 22:07Speaker 1: Hollywood in Hollywood. We do, and you know the tech
- 22:11Speaker 1: that goes with it and everything else. All right. Any
- 22:14Speaker 1: other stories that A.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Big one we have to talk about is what happened
- 22:19Speaker 2: with Jimmy Kimmel.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Oh.
- 22:21Speaker 2: Yeah, that was a big story that dominated the headlines
- 22:24Speaker 2: for probably a week or two at least when well,
- 22:28Speaker 2: first of all, Stephen Colbert earlier this year announced that
- 22:32Speaker 2: the Late Show at CBS would be ending. That was
- 22:34Speaker 2: the first hit to Late Night this year, which is huge.
- 22:37Speaker 2: That franchise has been around for such a long time
- 22:40Speaker 2: and Paramount Global. Well, they're saying that they were seeking
- 22:46Speaker 2: some to score some points with Trump by canceling that show.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Then we had you know what happened in September after
- 22:53Speaker 2: a comment involving Charlie Kirk, Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live,
- 22:57Speaker 2: which is owned by Disney, is put on indefinite suspension.
- 23:01Speaker 2: If you'll remember, he ended up back in the air
- 23:03Speaker 2: three nights later. There was widespread backlash for not only
- 23:09Speaker 2: you know, you know, there was backlash for what he said,
- 23:12Speaker 2: but mostly because he was removed from the air. A
- 23:16Speaker 2: lot of people felt like it was a violation of
- 23:17Speaker 2: First Amendment.
- 23:18Speaker 1: There's a lot of riches. Is not really true there.
- 23:23Speaker 1: I stood with Jimmy on this because the FCC that
- 23:26Speaker 1: winged up behind the FCC and Trump came out and
- 23:29Speaker 1: said some things that I said, I don't care. The
- 23:32Speaker 1: appearance of evil was enough for me. Don't get don't
- 23:36Speaker 1: even start to go down that path of taking people
- 23:39Speaker 1: off the air, even though I think it had business.
- 23:42Speaker 1: You know, business is business, yea. And I think Jimmy
- 23:45Speaker 1: Kimmel be gone in a year.
- 23:47Speaker 2: It SAIDs a very dangerous precedent, and quite honestly a
- 23:50Speaker 2: lot of people think it's setting up more political interference
- 23:54Speaker 2: in the media in you know, other types of entertainment.
- 24:00Speaker 2: President Trump recently another story said he really wanted to
- 24:03Speaker 2: bring Rush Hour back, if you'll remember that. So now
- 24:06Speaker 2: Rush Hour four, which had been shelved for quite some time,
- 24:09Speaker 2: his paramount has agreed to release that.
- 24:12Speaker 1: That's so ridiculous. Yeah, all of it is silly, But
- 24:15Speaker 1: I did stand with Jimmy Kimmel. Listen, late night sucks.
- 24:20Speaker 1: It has gotten so bad, and they take themselves way
- 24:23Speaker 1: too seriously. They're important. I'm a Johnny Carson, guy, a
- 24:27Speaker 1: Jay Leno, guy Conan O'Brien. I loved Letterman. You go
- 24:33Speaker 1: back to Carson and he made it very clear, don't
- 24:37Speaker 1: take yourself too seriously. You can do a lot of
- 24:40Speaker 1: swaying in this position, and that is misusing the platform.
- 24:45Speaker 1: So and I agree with him. And I think that
- 24:47Speaker 1: it's become very dull to watch late night TV because
- 24:50Speaker 1: everybody thinks they're a political pundit rather than just making
- 24:54Speaker 1: fun of things. I think that causes, uh, well, I
- 24:58Speaker 1: think it causes a lot of fear and fear mongering
- 25:01Speaker 1: and ugliness and it's you know, ridiculous. But never ever, ever,
- 25:09Speaker 1: should the government lean in on those things other than
- 25:13Speaker 1: basic FCC rules and the like, which I think are
- 25:17Speaker 1: kind of stupid too.
- 25:18Speaker 2: They're a little updated, yeah, to be especially for television. Yeah,
- 25:22Speaker 2: I will say really quick to your point about that.
- 25:24Speaker 2: About Johnny Carson in particular, people always used him, use
- 25:27Speaker 2: him as the barometer, you know, for the best talk
- 25:30Speaker 2: show host of all time. Johnny Carson, while he may
- 25:34Speaker 2: not have been overtly political during his nightly monologues or whatever,
- 25:38Speaker 2: very clearly made political moves by having guest co hosts
- 25:43Speaker 2: like our guest hosts like Harry Belafonte, and during a
- 25:46Speaker 2: very politically divisive time.
- 25:48Speaker 1: In our country. Okay, but here's something I do not
- 25:51Speaker 1: think civil rights is political. I think human rights and
- 25:55Speaker 1: civil rights, even though it can be politicized, just like
- 25:58Speaker 1: AIDS was politicized, that health and human interest is not political.
- 26:03Speaker 1: So I even though politics are involved and wrapped around
- 26:09Speaker 1: civil rights, to me, it transcends politics. So does human
- 26:13Speaker 1: rights and things like that. They just do. So when
- 26:16Speaker 1: you're saying wrong is wrong, that's not a political party
- 26:20Speaker 1: is wrong. That is it is wrong to put somebody
- 26:24Speaker 1: to oppress or to push someone down. To me, that
- 26:28Speaker 1: absolutely transcends. All right, Happy to be with you. I
- 26:31Speaker 1: don't know what we're gonna do Friday, if we'll end
- 26:34Speaker 1: up doing. You know, we're not gonna do ask Bill anything.
- 26:36Speaker 1: But if you have a question for me, I'll happily
- 26:39Speaker 1: take it. Just go to the iHeart radio app and
- 26:44Speaker 1: you'll see a red icon with a microphone on it
- 26:48Speaker 1: and just press on that and you've got thirty seconds
- 26:50Speaker 1: or so to ask a question. You've been very active
- 26:54Speaker 1: this morning. Oh take it. We're not afraid of that.
- 26:58Speaker 1: We've been talking about the new cycle twenty twenty five.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I will tell you I was talking to Heather Brooker
- 27:05Speaker 1: earlier about how if you have to cover everything, you
- 27:09Speaker 1: can't ever just make a point. You have to counter
- 27:12Speaker 1: every possible angle. Yeah, so that people go, wait a second,
- 27:18Speaker 1: you didn't say this. Yes, we were talking about Jimmy
- 27:20Speaker 1: Kimmel because we were talking about the year in review.
- 27:23Speaker 1: And someone says, what you didn't mention about Facebook? And listen,
- 27:29Speaker 1: I said, the appearance of evil with Trump. But it
- 27:34Speaker 1: is fact that the Biden administration actually censored people with
- 27:39Speaker 1: the help of Facebook, period. And I've said that to
- 27:43Speaker 1: handle And if you listen to the show, listen with
- 27:46Speaker 1: both ears, and you'll hear those things, but I'm not
- 27:50Speaker 1: going to clarify every single time on every single thing.
- 27:54Speaker 5: It's impossible, impuls I think also to people just hey,
- 28:00Speaker 5: just even if you're right about something or have a
- 28:02Speaker 5: point and it doesn't jive with what's in their mind,
- 28:05Speaker 5: they want to be like.
- 28:06Speaker 1: No, no, no, you're wrong. No. People don't listen with
- 28:10Speaker 1: their ears. They listen with their triggers. It's human nature.
- 28:13Speaker 1: They're waiting to be offended by something. So I'm sorry,
- 28:16Speaker 1: I'm not trust me. If I had to, you know,
- 28:20Speaker 1: producing the Jesus Show for almost thirty years or whatever
- 28:24Speaker 1: it is now, I will tell you that you will
- 28:29Speaker 1: be talking to a person for three minutes and you'll
- 28:33Speaker 1: get ten emails or whatever saying but why didn't you
- 28:38Speaker 1: say this? Didn't you get why didn't you bring up
- 28:42Speaker 1: the police? In my mind, yeah exactly, I was sending
- 28:47Speaker 1: you thoughts anyway. So we talked about the cost of living,
- 28:52Speaker 1: We talked about entertainment, We talked about politics and power.
- 28:55Speaker 2: By the way, quickly, if everybody, if you want to
- 28:58Speaker 2: listen to more entertainment news, I love to talk about entertainment.
- 29:01Speaker 2: I have a show podcast called entertain Me with Heather brookers.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Oh I'm sorry, check it out. I would love for
- 29:06Speaker 1: you guys to do that.
- 29:07Speaker 2: We talk about everything from box office stuff to news
- 29:10Speaker 2: and SoCal events and that sort of thing.
- 29:12Speaker 1: So anytime you want to talk entertainment, Neil, you know,
- 29:14Speaker 1: I love that. No, you've been great. I appreciate you
- 29:18Speaker 1: jumping in with us this morning on all that. And
- 29:20Speaker 1: I guess I'll do myself a plug if you already know,
- 29:24Speaker 1: I'm at FOURK reporter on social media. But if you
- 29:27Speaker 1: want to see the stuff that I do, making stuff,
- 29:30Speaker 1: and you know some of the prop replicas I'm working
- 29:34Speaker 1: on now and things like that, I have another Instagram
- 29:38Speaker 1: called Savco Industries Saavco Industries, and you can find me
- 29:46Speaker 1: there on Instagram. It's just like stuff that I do
- 29:50Speaker 1: in my shop. Very creative, my creative stuff. I'm going
- 29:54Speaker 1: to make something.
- 29:56Speaker 3: Look at me.
- 29:56Speaker 1: I think this is a saw. I am so. A
- 30:02Speaker 1: couple other things that were going on. We had a
- 30:04Speaker 1: lot of technology and disruption, massive jump in scale of
- 30:10Speaker 1: AI across the workplaces, education media, explosion of AI powered scams.
- 30:18Speaker 1: Of course, anytime you have hey, look at that fresh
- 30:21Speaker 1: face Shan just walked in. Anytime you have new technology
- 30:25Speaker 1: The first thing they do is how can we screw
- 30:27Speaker 1: people out of money? And how can we use it
- 30:29Speaker 1: for porn? That's seriously, every technology that ever comes our way.
- 30:33Speaker 1: So AI comes and it's like, how can we make
- 30:36Speaker 1: fake boobies and how can we screw people out of
- 30:38Speaker 1: their life savings? Speaking of fake boobies, they're not fake.
- 30:42Speaker 1: That's why they're not great. It was just a segue.
- 30:45Speaker 1: Oh but he parked at them and then touched them
- 30:48Speaker 1: and I I.
- 30:49Speaker 6: Am sorry, don't use your hands.
- 30:53Speaker 1: That sounds weird.
- 30:55Speaker 6: Poor Beta Beta was like a better technology, yeah, and
- 30:59Speaker 6: I got screwed because of VHS, right, that's why. That's why,
- 31:02Speaker 6: because porn chose VHS over yep.
- 31:05Speaker 1: That's but see that's what happened. Look at you deep
- 31:07Speaker 1: that you're too deep porn cuts. You're too young to
- 31:10Speaker 1: know about Beta Max. God bless you. I am not
- 31:16Speaker 1: my dad.
- 31:16Speaker 6: I think till he died a couple of years ago,
- 31:18Speaker 6: had a bait, had a VHS and a Beta Max.
- 31:22Speaker 1: What did he play on a Beta Max? Old Godfather?
- 31:25Speaker 1: You know Godfather movies? That's like people. I have a
- 31:29Speaker 1: Stanford inside k Tvanford Son reruns Stanford and Son. Another
- 31:35Speaker 1: deep poll. That is fantastic. It was a different time
- 31:37Speaker 1: watch that show. There is there is not one bad episode.
- 31:41Speaker 6: Oh god, it's so good. I loved hearing you this morning.
- 31:46Speaker 6: It was so much a sponge you and Heather Brooker.
- 31:49Speaker 6: I turned my radio on and it was just nice
- 31:51Speaker 6: to have friends on the drive in.
- 31:54Speaker 1: You know what, someone I didn't say instead of someone
- 31:59Speaker 1: just sent them a talk back. The show's been great today.
- 32:03Speaker 1: See how much fun you can have when there's not
- 32:05Speaker 1: a Jew involved. Oh my word, who jeez, that's awful.
- 32:12Speaker 1: That's horrible. That's anti semitic. Yeah, who was that? Ad All? No, no, no, no, no, no, adoll.
- 32:20Speaker 1: I should we have their names and phone numbers? We
- 32:22Speaker 1: should not.
- 32:23Speaker 6: I'm going to put that out. We're not going to
- 32:25Speaker 6: do that. No, we're not going to do that. It's
- 32:27Speaker 6: time to go to ways. It's time to it's time
- 32:29Speaker 6: to go cut the.
- 32:30Speaker 1: Mic, is it? Yes? I they should have done that
- 32:35Speaker 1: at about six oh four. No, You're wonderful. I'm oh,
- 32:38Speaker 1: I just want to there's a lot of stuff that
- 32:40Speaker 1: happen in twenty twenty five. Am I right? But I
- 32:44Speaker 1: lose you? Oh my god, I'm distracted.
- 32:47Speaker 6: That happened to yous HD two Los Angeles.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Oh it is me, Am I Going. Oh, you've been
- 32:54Speaker 1: listening to The Bill Handle Show.
- 32:55Speaker 5: Catch My Show one day through Friday, six am to
- 32:58Speaker 5: nine am, and anytime on demand on the iHeartRadio app
