- 0:11SPEAKER_01: Hello, and welcome to This Is The Thing, where we get into all the things we've read, seen, heard, and got a little too obsessed with this week.
- 0:17SPEAKER_01: I'm Lindsay.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: This is my good friend Bev.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: Beth, how are you doing today?
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: Well, I sound insane.
- 0:23SPEAKER_01: Well, you're yeah.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: Um, hand sanitizer, cough drops, tissues.
- 0:28SPEAKER_01: What's the spray?
- 0:29SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's like it's a throat spray.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: It's a chloroseptic spray.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 0:32SPEAKER_01: I actually like that.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: I might just grab it later.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: Just recreational use of chloroseptic.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: I have this thing with my kids and I have a little bit of a head cold.
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: Now ask me if everything got done this week.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: The answer is yes.
- 0:46SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 0:47SPEAKER_01: And because you're a mom and you're gonna get it done.
- 0:49SPEAKER_01: Because you're a woman and you're gonna get it done.
- 0:51SPEAKER_01: But my kids You're very nurturing.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: We nurture.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: It's a joke, it's a joke.
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: Inside joke, we shouldn't do it.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: Which a few of these listeners will understand.
- 0:58SPEAKER_00: Okay, yeah.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: We do nurture.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: But my kids, they are like, Mom, can you just admit that you're sick?
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, oh, it's just a little, it's just a little, a little head cold.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: And they're like, but you can't say I'm sick.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, because I'm not, actually.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: Like I feel fine.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: I just have a little bit of congestion.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: It's all up in my head.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: I sound kind of scratchy.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: They're like, no, but a little deeper than usual.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: A little bit screen.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: A little bit, you know, just a little bit of Cheryl Crow that's gonna come out here to go.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: A little bit of Elizabeth Holmes, which we're gonna talk about.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: She does have an injury.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: She has a fake voice.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: It's a fake voice.
- 1:32SPEAKER_01: It is fake?
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Like she does, she puts that on as like part of her whole thing.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: We're gonna have to get into it.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: And please, back to your sickness.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Well, you mean my non-sickness.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 1:43SPEAKER_00: That's it.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: It's just I I've I cannot, I have some sort of block that I can't say, guys, I'm sick this week.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: I can't do it.
- 1:52SPEAKER_01: I'm like, well, I think it's good because sickness is like 90%, not 90% mental, but it can be mental.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: 100,000 percent.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: So if you're like, I'm not sick, I think that's the attitude.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: And the more hand sanitizer I put on, the better I am.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: So besides chloroseptic spray, what are you obsessed with this week?
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: I'm obsessed with the fact that my broken refrigerator, it's still sitting in my kitchen.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: I'm I am the person who talks about broken fridges more than anything in the world.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: My new one has been shipped and it is in transit.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's exciting.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: It's very exciting.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: It gets here by November 2nd.
- 2:28SPEAKER_00: So whenever this airs, it'll either be like right now, you know, or a week away.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Do they take what happens to the old fridge?
- 2:35SPEAKER_00: Did they take it out or do you have to take it out?
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: They will take it out.
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: And I made sure.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: I asked like a thousand times.
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: I was like, You're taking the old one, right?
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: You're taking the old one, right?
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: You're taking the old one right.
- 2:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: So they will be carting it away.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Okay, good.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: And I'll be left with a new shiny white fridge.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: I'm so excited for you.
- 2:51SPEAKER_01: So, like I said, my obsession this week that I don't feel like it started like last Friday was Elizabeth Holmes, the documentary, You Can See Everything, which I have not seen.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: So I'll have to do a part two of this where I'm obsessed with that, but I know what the documentary is.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 3:05SPEAKER_01: I need I need to know more context.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: I do need context because I know she was a businesswoman who had ties to a health insurance company and it was nothing but fraud.
- 3:16SPEAKER_00: My question to you is about 10% right on that.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: But I'll tell you, don't worry.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: Don't worry.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: This happens all the time.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: I want to know what makes this case special.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 3:25SPEAKER_01: I think that she's a woman makes it really special, but I'll get to that part.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: So even before this documentary came out, I watched all the things.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: I read the book Bad Blood by John Careyroo, who kind of broke the story that he wrote the story in the Wall Street Journal about her that then led to an investigation, that all these things.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 3:44SPEAKER_01: So John Carey Roo read the book.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: There's a documentary called Bad Blood.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: I don't know the streaming service.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: Based on the book, watched it.
- 3:52SPEAKER_01: Then Amanda Sigree acted fictionally in a Hulu documentary.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: Um, not documentary.
- 4:00SPEAKER_01: And she had a little coffee and she did the like this little shoulder dance.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: She won an Emmy for it.
- 4:04SPEAKER_01: For the shoulder dance?
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: She showed up.
- 4:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, she won a Tony for that.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: She won an Emmy for her portrayal of Elizabeth Holmes in the Hulu doc.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: Okay, so let me just back up for our listeners and Bev who know 10% of it.
- 4:17SPEAKER_01: Elizabeth Holmes dropped out of Stanford when she was 19 years old.
- 4:21SPEAKER_01: And she had always wanted to be like a tech guy.
- 4:24SPEAKER_01: She'd want to be Steve Jobs.
- 4:26SPEAKER_01: She wanted to be one of these guys.
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: She said when she was little, like, I'm gonna be a billionaire tech person.
- 4:31SPEAKER_01: So she came up with this technology claims she did, that instead of doing like a venous blood draw, you can do all the tests you need from a prick of blood on your finger.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: And that was her pitch.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: Um they she called it Theranos, a mix of therapy and diagnostics.
- 4:48SPEAKER_01: And so it's a it's a good pitch because no one likes to get a venous blood draw.
- 4:53SPEAKER_01: I hate, I to this day will almost cry getting my blood draw in it.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: What do you mean by venous?
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: Okay, sorry, in the vein.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: Is there a Mars blood draw?
- 5:00SPEAKER_01: There's a Uranus.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: No, where they tie off your arm and stick the needle in.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:05SPEAKER_01: You know, like no one likes that.
- 5:06SPEAKER_01: Like no one likes it.
- 5:07SPEAKER_01: So it's a blood draw.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: A blood draw.
- 5:09SPEAKER_01: So it's but usually they have to get big vials of blood to test your blood cell count, to test you for what thyroid disorder.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:16SPEAKER_01: Just in one prick of your finger, one drop, just one drop, you can test all these things.
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: Really takes out the fear of blood draw and also is faster diagnostics.
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: So that is her big claim.
- 5:30SPEAKER_01: She had a great pitch about it, and she had this really low voice that she talked like in real life.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: She knows only when she started this company did she take on this like very affected voice like this.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Like, I'm very serious about Theranos.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: She wore a black turtleneck everywhere.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: A la Steve Jobs, literally the only thing she wore.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:50SPEAKER_01: And people fell in love with the idea of this young tech woman, I think.
- 5:56SPEAKER_01: Because before we'd seen for the last decade all these men coming in, the Mark Zuckerbergs and I can, you know, a million, the Google guys.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: 100%.
- 6:04SPEAKER_01: All of them, they were like, well, why couldn't a woman drop out of Stanford and do the exact same thing?
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: Of course they could.
- 6:10SPEAKER_01: But everyone got really excited about this.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: And she got billions and billions of dollars of investment from really high profile people.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: Like her board was Bill Clinton, Henry Kissinger, Kissing, Henry Kissinger, George Schultz, who used to be the Secretary of State.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: Like these really high profile old white men, by the way, which was interesting.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: That literally just kind of listened to her pitch, fell in love with, I don't know if they fell in love with her, but fell they fell in love with the idea of it.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: And she had all this credibility because these people sat on her board.
- 6:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: Cut to her making the technology work.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: She had a huge complex in Silicon Valley back where all the guys were all the up there.
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: She had a big place.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: She had hundreds of people working for her.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: And there's a lot of people talking in these other various documentaries that the technology just did not work.
- 6:59SPEAKER_01: It just physically was not possible to do all these with a single fingerprinted.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: With a single finger finger prick of blood.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 7:06SPEAKER_01: And she ha created this little device that looked sort of, I don't know that she created it, like a printer that she called the Edison.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: And you were supposed to put it in there almost like a CD cartridge and it would spin around.
- 7:19SPEAKER_01: This was her claim, and it would test for 200 things.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 7:22SPEAKER_01: This just literally did not work.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah.
- 7:24SPEAKER_01: So they would did all these things to kind of fake it, and they like who's doing all the things to fake it?
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: Like her team?
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Her and her team, yes.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Does her team know that this does not work all those emails from people saying this doesn't work, this is dangerous, blah, blah, blah.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: It became dangerous when it became real life because she sold it to Walgreens.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: And there was they were in only one location, I think, like in Arizona, people could come in and get this test done.
- 7:52SPEAKER_01: Well, the test just didn't work.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: And people were getting like getting tests saying they had HIV or just not getting tested for what they thought they were getting tested for.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: And so, you know, health problems could persist.
- 8:06SPEAKER_01: Craziness.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: Anyway, this all comes out like in this John Carey Roo article.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: Also, like whistleblowers, you know, come out and say this isn't working.
- 8:15SPEAKER_01: This isn't working.
- 8:16SPEAKER_01: And she is actually tried for fraud because she was defrauding her investors and the American public.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: She got 11 years.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: She's not, I don't, I'm she's sure she won't do all of it.
- 8:30SPEAKER_01: She's in a very reduced.
- 8:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, she won't do all of it.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: She's it's a very white-collar kind of prison, but she did get charged with it.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:37SPEAKER_01: So I think it happened because so many people were just like really excited about her being this tech titan and like this woman tech titan.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: What a great story.
- 8:46SPEAKER_01: People love stories.
- 8:47SPEAKER_01: Like this was a great story.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: So a million things have been done on her.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: Now, Nathan Fielder just came out with a three-hour documentary called You Can See Everything.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Now, do you know who Nathan Fielder is?
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: No, but I've heard his name everywhere.
- 9:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:01SPEAKER_01: He is, he's a comedian, really, but a very avant-garde comedian.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: He's had shows like The Rehearsal, and where he like sets up a fake scenario.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Let's say you wanted to break up with your boyfriend, and he sets up this like fake scenario to help the person break up with their boyfriend.
- 9:17SPEAKER_01: It's it is it's bizarre.
- 9:18SPEAKER_01: So he's sort of like avant-garde, right?
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: But very funny.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: He has like a legion of followers.
- 9:22SPEAKER_01: So it came out that Nathan Fielder had done this documentary on her.
- 9:26SPEAKER_01: He had lived with her and her partner.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: And she invited him, right?
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: She said, Come live with me at my house.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: You can you can see everything.
- 9:33SPEAKER_01: You can see her there for like 30 some days before she went into prison.
- 9:37SPEAKER_01: And she has a partner, Billy Evans.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: Two kids.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: Two little kids.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: With him.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: And the little kids came like after she was charged, which was kind of crazy.
- 9:48SPEAKER_00: That was a long so it was a long time.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:51SPEAKER_00: It's been the trial and her since interesting.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: So he's living with her for 30 days and asking her the tough questions, but people are really into it.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: And I've heard such good things about it.
- 10:04SPEAKER_01: I actually heard John Carey Roo talking about it, the guy from Bad Blood, just saying it was so good.
- 10:10SPEAKER_01: It was so interesting.
- 10:12SPEAKER_01: And like his perspective on it of how he got things out of her or didn't get things out of her, what he was suggesting is supposedly really good.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: All I think when I look at the trailer, or not even the trailer, because I've I see little clips and like stills on Instagram and Facebook and things.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: Yes, Facebook.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: I was on Facebook the other day, and I cannot believe I was on Facebook.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: I did see someone talking about this movie and her expressions in the movie.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: You know what they give?
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: They remind me of the Soundgarden the video from early 90s, Black Hole Sun.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Black Hole Sun.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: The expressions they get very exaggerated.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: That is all I can think when I look at it.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: And then I'm very fascinated by it.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: So I'm wondering this dude's living with her for a month for 30 days before she goes to prison for 11 years or whatever.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: And he's there to ask the hard questions.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: I'm fascinated.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: But I have seen people talk about it like crazy.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: On Facebook.
- 11:11SPEAKER_01: Well, the things I've heard is he's kind of like, you don't think you did anything wrong?
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: She's like, no, you don't think you did anything wrong.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: No.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: And my take without seeing it, my take on her is that she's just one of those weird people that has a distortion of reality.
- 11:28SPEAKER_01: She believes that she came up with this great technology.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: She was on her way to making it happen.
- 11:33SPEAKER_01: She had no bad intentions.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: And no, she didn't like she doesn't, she doesn't see what the rest of us see.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Is my take on her.
- 11:40SPEAKER_00: Interesting.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: Delusional, I guess.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, delusional.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: So anyway, I'm dying to see that.
- 11:46SPEAKER_01: I was obsessed with listening to people talk about it.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: But so Bev and I love some true crime.
- 11:53SPEAKER_01: When we were talking about this week, we talked about Scott Peterson.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: He appeared in court virtually on Tuesday after nearly 20 years after being convicted.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: The Los Angeles Innocence Project has now taken on his case, which is crazy.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Like, do you guys seriously not have another case that is more worthy than Scott Peterson?
- 12:13SPEAKER_01: So if you don't remember, Peterson was sentenced to death after a jury found him guilty of murder and the deaths of Lacey and his unborn child named Connor.
- 12:20SPEAKER_01: Prosecutors said he killed Lacey and dumped her body in the San Francisco Bay on Christmas Eve.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: The death sentence was later overturned, and he was sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: The LA Innocence Project has now taken up Peterson's case.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: The groove suggest in court documents that Lacey Peterson may have witnessed a Christmas Eve break-in across the street from the couple's home in the desk and been kidnapped and thereby killed by the burglars.
- 12:42SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 12:44SPEAKER_01: I've heard this theory before.
- 12:47SPEAKER_01: And while it's like, how how much coincidence can we account for?
- 12:51SPEAKER_01: That is a huge coincidence.
- 12:53SPEAKER_01: But at the same time, they would have had to kidnap her, hold her, wait till they heard a clue on the news that said he was fishing in the San Francisco Bay, right?
- 13:04SPEAKER_01: Driven out there with no one seeing him or seeing these kidnappers, because I'm sure the place was probably kind of surrounded and dumped the body in the San Francisco Bay 25 days later or whatever it was.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 13:17SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: It doesn't make any sense to me.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: No.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: Also, I think what I'm mostly fascinated with, what in the world?
- 13:23SPEAKER_00: Did you know that OJ Simpson also had an accomplice?
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Like a big thing.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: Apparently, yeah, yeah.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: He's back in the news too.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: All these old cases from 20 to 30 years ago are coming back in the spotlight.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: And I'm wondering why.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: I don't know why.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: It's it's good, I guess.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: But like the Scott Peterson thing drives me crazy.
- 13:43SPEAKER_00: It's just like, leave that one.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: He's fine over there.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: Like, he's good.
- 13:47SPEAKER_00: Now, OJ, I'm interested in hearing more.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: Because if he did have an accomplice, who was that dude?
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 13:54SPEAKER_01: Well, let me tell you, Bev.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: Tell me.
- 13:56SPEAKER_01: So here is what allegedly happened.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: According to court records, a letter, a letter from an assistant U.S.
- 14:02SPEAKER_01: attorney to a federal judge requested a lenient sentence for Joey Apolito on a prison escape charge because the convicted trafficker had become a federal informant and provided this inter inf information.
- 14:13SPEAKER_01: So Apolito allegedly met Simpson through A.J.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: Callings.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: If you guys don't remember, he was the one driving the white van.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Oh, really?
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 14:21SPEAKER_01: He was his best friend forever.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Is this, yeah, A.J.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: Cowings.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: So Apolito died in 2006.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: But his brother Sam told the Times that Joey left the night of the killings to help a friend, only to return with it with what appeared to be blood on his hands and a big, heavy object in a bag.
- 14:40SPEAKER_01: He then allegedly told Sam to dispose of it while he showered.
- 14:44SPEAKER_01: Sam had said he tossed the bag in the dumpster at a nearby construction site.
- 14:48SPEAKER_01: So what they're saying, because they were, there was always like, where was the knife?
- 14:52SPEAKER_01: Like, where was the weapon?
- 14:54SPEAKER_01: And also so much was done to Ron and Nicole.
- 14:58SPEAKER_01: There probably was someone else there.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: At the same time, OJ was a very strong big, strong person.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:03SPEAKER_01: So I think he could overpower two people.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: But anyway, the thought of the day they he had had an accomplice was kind of always there.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: So that's what it's about.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: It's not about the fact that he's innocent.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: Gotcha.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: Also, I just it was a white Bronco.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: A van.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: What did I say?
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you're right.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: It was an event.
- 15:17SPEAKER_00: I just don't want people to think that we honestly think it was a white Honda Odyssey, just like barreling down.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: It was like a family van.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: It was a family van.
- 15:24SPEAKER_00: It was that they were headed to soccer.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: No.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: It's definitely a white Bronco.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: No, of course not.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: Do you remember where you were when the conviction was read?
- 15:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was talking about this with somebody the other day.
- 15:34SPEAKER_01: And I remember I was in high school.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 15:37SPEAKER_01: I don't know sophomore junior, I'm not sure.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Maybe senior.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Had to be senior because of our age.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Okay, okay.
- 15:43SPEAKER_01: Senior year.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: They stopped.
- 15:45SPEAKER_01: It was almost the part where that you transitioned classes and they were like, everybody wait.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: They turned on the TVs and everyone was like watching.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: And then I think the thing that was crazy is everyone screamed because they were happy.
- 15:58SPEAKER_01: People really wanted him to get off.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: And I remember me as a teenager wanting that because he was famous and I had liked him in some movies and like stuff.
- 16:08SPEAKER_01: I just didn't want it to be true.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: I'm sure, right?
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, it's impossible that it's not.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: But it it's crazy that they stopped school for this.
- 16:16SPEAKER_01: It was a cultural moment, but I mean it was crazy.
- 16:19SPEAKER_00: What's weird is that these cultural moments happen, but you don't really know it until a little bit after the fact.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: I was in college and it was my I was a I was a sophomore in college in Texas.
- 16:33SPEAKER_00: And I was in choir practice, and it was on a Wednesday afternoon.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: And it was late in the afternoon.
- 16:38SPEAKER_00: I remember this.
- 16:39SPEAKER_00: And Google might like tell me that's wrong.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: But I, in my head, it was a Wednesday afternoon.
- 16:44SPEAKER_00: And I remember standing on the the choir, bleachers is not the right word.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Risers.
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 16:50SPEAKER_00: Risers.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: And my choir director, Dr.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: Lloyd Hawthorne, he stopped the show and he was like, not the show.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: We were practicing.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: But he was like, guys, he was acquitted.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: And but it would like, it had just come through.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: And there was such a visceral reaction from all the all of us.
- 17:06SPEAKER_00: And I think some were like, What?
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: And some are like, yeah, I can't remember.
- 17:10SPEAKER_00: I think I was just like, oh my, you're kidding me.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: I mean, do you think he did it?
- 17:14SPEAKER_01: You're you're asking me out.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Oh my God, of course.
- 17:18SPEAKER_01: Thousand person.
- 17:19SPEAKER_01: Thousand person.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: I don't understand.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: I'm more convinced of that than Scott Peterson, which I'm convinced of Scott Peterson.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: But like if you made me pick one that was innocent, I'd say, okay, fine, Scott.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: But there's the weird thing across the street.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: Fine.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: Not to bounce around.
- 17:33SPEAKER_01: The thing about Scott that was always weird was he was like this really nice guy.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: There's a few people that were like they fought a lot or something.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: I've heard that.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: But mostly it was like the son-in-law of Lacey's mom's dreams.
- 17:46SPEAKER_01: And everybody loved him.
- 17:47SPEAKER_01: And he was just like jovial and wasn't like getting in bar fights or anything.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 17:51SPEAKER_01: But one day just woke up and chose this.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: What?
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:55unknown: Yeah.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: That's the craziest part.
- 17:57SPEAKER_00: It is the craziest thing.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: Have you seen all of these cases and how some people are acquitted and some people are put away?
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: It was called The Staircase.
- 18:07SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: Did you ever watch that?
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: What was his name?
- 18:10SPEAKER_01: So there's like a documentary called The Staircase.
- 18:13SPEAKER_01: And then there's like a fictionalized movie with Tawny Collette and Carlton Farrell.
- 18:17SPEAKER_00: I love Tony Colette.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: I'm actually thinking about the documentary.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:20SPEAKER_00: And it came out, you know, in the maybe 2004, 2005 something?
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 18:25SPEAKER_00: Like that.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: Maybe 2005.
- 18:27SPEAKER_00: Because I remember Aaron and I watched it in our loft and hooked, hooked.
- 18:32SPEAKER_00: What was his name?
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: Michael Peterson.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: Michael Peterson.
- 18:34SPEAKER_00: It was Maria Peterson.
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: Maybe we just don't Marry a Peterson.
- 18:38SPEAKER_01: It was in 2001, the death of Kathleen Peterson and the murder of novelist.
- 18:42SPEAKER_01: I forgot that he was a writer, Michael Peterson in Durham, North Carolina.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:46SPEAKER_01: That's fascinating.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: That was a fascinating story.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: So here, do you want us to tell what happened or do you want me to tell what happened?
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: You can, as far as I remember, they had been out by the pool, they'd had some drinks.
- 18:56SPEAKER_00: He went up, maybe right before she went up, and then she stumbles to bed and she's at the top of the staircase and she falls down and hits her head at the very at the bottom.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: You know, he it looks like he did it.
- 19:08SPEAKER_00: But he and his whole family like has his back, you know, in this whole documentary.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: It's amazing.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: If you haven't seen it, the staircase.
- 19:15SPEAKER_00: And it's just one of those things, like I feel like when that move when that documentary came out, it was the start of people's ascension with follow with with a true crime documentary.
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: And B putting up the the the reason we're so fascinated is because it's a puzzle.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: It's something for it's something for us to figure out.
- 19:35SPEAKER_00: It's something for us to obsess over and take sides over it.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: And it's just it's it's so fascinating to me.
- 19:42SPEAKER_01: We've talked about this before, but the most interesting cases aren't like the nightmare next door, which is the one where the guy kills his wife and his kids and puts them in an oil thing.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 19:51SPEAKER_01: It's devastating, it's sad.
- 19:53SPEAKER_01: But it's also Chris Pratt, right?
- 19:55SPEAKER_01: No, that's the actor.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: Sorry, Chris Pratt.
- 19:58SPEAKER_01: I'll find his name in a minute.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: Chris something.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: It's Chris.
- 20:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: Chris Watts.
- 20:01SPEAKER_01: Chris, Chris Watts.
- 20:02SPEAKER_01: So the thing about that is it's not interesting because I'm not like, it could have happened like this, or it could have happened like that.
- 20:09SPEAKER_01: There's really no ulterior or alternate theory about that.
- 20:15SPEAKER_01: So there's not much to think about except the really sad parts of it.
- 20:18SPEAKER_01: But like the staircase was so interesting because they were this loving, perfect couple.
- 20:21SPEAKER_01: They had a blended family.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: All the stepkids loved their respective step parent, super, super close.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: They're just chilling.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: They're in there.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: I think they may have been 50s, maybe high 40s.
- 20:32SPEAKER_00: And no, please tell me.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: No, they were 50s.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: I'll look it up in a minute.
- 20:35SPEAKER_01: No, you say they were 46 prison.
- 20:38SPEAKER_01: No, that's what like always happens to me.
- 20:39SPEAKER_01: I I look at someone and I'm like, look at that middle-aged old person in their mind.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: They're three years younger.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 20:45SPEAKER_01: That's what always happens.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: Totally.
- 20:46SPEAKER_01: I'll tell you how old they are in a minute.
- 20:48SPEAKER_01: But she fell down the stairs.
- 20:50SPEAKER_01: Too the they said this is too much blood.
- 20:52SPEAKER_01: You would hit your head and it would be a drizzle.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: It's not gonna splatter up the wall.
- 20:58SPEAKER_01: A drizzle.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 20:59SPEAKER_01: It just wouldn't happen like that.
- 21:01SPEAKER_01: It couldn't splatter up the wall.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 21:03SPEAKER_01: Because she fell and hit her head like that.
- 21:06SPEAKER_01: So that was always the big thing.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: In 2017, he took an Alfred plea, which allows you to maintain your innocence while acknowledging that the state had enough evidence to convict you.
- 21:16SPEAKER_01: Then he got out of jail in 2017, I think.
- 21:18SPEAKER_01: So he did go to prison then.
- 21:20SPEAKER_01: He went to prison and then got out on this Alfred plea.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: And I think it avoids doing a retrial, avoids them.
- 21:26SPEAKER_01: I don't know why people I mean, I know why you'd take an Alfred plea if you're Michael, but I don't know why the state is excited to give them that.
- 21:32SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: And also is it an what'd you call it?
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: Alfred?
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: Alfred.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: I'm sure it's based on Alfred somewhere.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: Definitely on Alfred, who's 46 years old.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: And they're like, okay, you admitted it, so off you go.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: Like I don't, I don't, I don't know.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: Maybe I'm just not understanding it right, but he was 59 years old when he was convicted.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 21:50SPEAKER_01: So I'm assuming maybe he was probably early 50s when it happened, because it always takes a while to work through the system.
- 21:56SPEAKER_01: Well, hopefully not almost a decade, but yeah.
- 21:58SPEAKER_01: No, so he yeah, he was 57.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: When you feel better.
- 22:03SPEAKER_01: He was released in 2011 at the age of 68 and took an Alfred plea.
- 22:08SPEAKER_01: It's like it it has to do with him getting out of jail.
- 22:10SPEAKER_01: They want you to take this plea and we'll let you out.
- 22:13SPEAKER_01: Just like I'll say anything.
- 22:14SPEAKER_01: I'll say that I'm like a monster, a half monster.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: I was OJ's accomplice.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 22:20SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 22:21SPEAKER_01: So in lighter news, yeah, Jay-Z announced that he's doing the halftime show.
- 22:26SPEAKER_00: Halftime show for what?
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: Super Bowl.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 22:29SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 22:29SPEAKER_01: That's cool.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:31SPEAKER_01: And like the kind of twist to this, or it's not even a twist, is he's in charge of picking who is the halftime performer for maybe the last five years.
- 22:39SPEAKER_01: I had no idea.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Rock Nation was hired or something like that by Apple Music.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: I don't even know.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: Something like that.
- 22:45SPEAKER_01: So he's always picked.
- 22:46SPEAKER_01: He picked Rihanna and he picked Kendrick Lamar.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: That kind of thing.
- 22:49SPEAKER_01: And then he was like, I pick myself.
- 22:51SPEAKER_01: That's funny.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: Well, I think it's a good pick because I think the thing with the halftime show is it appeals to me, obviously, and you, because that's our generation.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: But like Marley, my niece, who's a who's Gen Z, definitely likes Jay-Z.
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: I don't know that she goes around playing him, but if it comes on, she gets she likes him, loves Tupac.
- 23:08SPEAKER_01: They love all of that old music.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: 90s Jay-Z.
- 23:11SPEAKER_01: They yes is so good.
- 23:13SPEAKER_01: The best people from the 90s, Gen Z still like.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:16SPEAKER_01: So that's a good pick.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: And then my parents, while they're not going to be like excited, they know who he is.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: They'll be like, isn't that Beyonce's husband?
- 23:23SPEAKER_01: Right, right, right.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: And I'll be like, yeah.
- 23:25SPEAKER_01: So you I think that's the thing is like people didn't like Kendrick Lamar, which I thought he was great, but you have to be able to appeal to every generation or just accept that this one's not for everybody.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: I don't know.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: Oh, I Jay-Z the era that I love the most with him was when he did MTV Unplugged in whatever late 90s, 97.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: That's probably wrong.
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: But like H to the Izzo, bum banana.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: The way he's like his cadence, the way he raps, it's so casual and so cool.
- 23:55SPEAKER_00: I've always liked him.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: He's probably done some bad things, and listeners will be like, and I don't know all that stuff.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: But uh a woman accused him of something, but then, and I don't know if this is because she got a check, but she just recently was like, I've actually never met Jay-Z.
- 24:10SPEAKER_01: I was lying.
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: Oh, really?
- 24:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:12SPEAKER_00: Well, so I mean, maybe she was OJ's accomplice.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: I think she was.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: I think she was.
- 24:18SPEAKER_01: But I mean, yeah.
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: So I there was like those allegations that I think have been quashed unless he drove her a big chart.
- 24:25SPEAKER_00: Well, that's good.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: That's good.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: Well, I I'm happy to hear that he's gonna be the Super Bowl because I know.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: I do like him.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: I do too.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: We need some his o in the H to the Hizzo.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: What are you reading this week?
- 24:37SPEAKER_01: Okay, I've been on really bad reader this week.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Are you reading another freaking memoir?
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: No, I'm not.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: I'm not.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: I just like have hardly read this week.
- 24:45SPEAKER_01: I go through a phase where I'll read two books a week for a month, and I'm like, you know, getting stars all over my paper.
- 24:52SPEAKER_01: All over the goodreads.
- 24:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, all over the yeah.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: And or I'm just I can't quite get into something again.
- 24:58SPEAKER_01: I hate that feeling where I read a few pages, I'm like, I don't, this isn't gonna keep me up at night.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: It's not gonna addict me.
- 25:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:04SPEAKER_01: So I haven't found anything yet, but I'm gonna try to get off the memoirs.
- 25:08SPEAKER_00: Are you, oh well, I mean, that's okay.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: Are you looking for something really good fiction, like a good novel to read?
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: What do you read?
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: Well, or what would you recommend?
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: Actually, what I'm reading right now, it's kind of it's kind of it's funny because it's a holiday book.
- 25:22SPEAKER_00: It's sort of like a partnership.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: It's for my partnership.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: And I, you know, it's funny because holiday rom commie style books, they tend to be really hokey and predictable.
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: And but we don't care because that's what we want.
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: But this one I will say is really funny.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: And it's the dialogue sort of gives a little bit of when Harry met Sally.
- 25:45SPEAKER_00: Not in the way of like they're friends, they can't be together, blah, blah, blah.
- 25:49SPEAKER_00: But it's the story of this girl, this woman, she's like 37 years old and she's going to her parents, her grandparents' cabin for six days at Christmas, which they've always done.
- 26:00SPEAKER_00: The grandparents no longer are alive.
- 26:03SPEAKER_00: So it's just the immediate family, her brother, sister, they're but their growing families, and her parents.
- 26:10SPEAKER_00: And but what we don't know is that her older brother just onboarded this dude at his job, and he's they've been, he's been working with him for about three months, and they're like super bros, you know, and he brings him to the house.
- 26:22SPEAKER_00: Well, come to find out.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: Oh no, it's her ex-boyfriend.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's not what I'm gonna say.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: I was gonna say they're gay.
- 26:28SPEAKER_00: Oh no, no.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: It's her ex-boyfriend from college from 17 years ago.
- 26:32SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: And so you're like, how did he how did you not know?
- 26:36SPEAKER_00: You know never talked about girls.
- 26:39SPEAKER_00: He knew the the boyfriend, the ex-boyfriend knew, but the brother didn't know.
- 26:43SPEAKER_00: But I'm like, if y'all and they were together like eight months in college, I mean, maybe back in the day you just don't really, you're not it introducing, you're in the in the mix of like exams and all this stuff.
- 26:54SPEAKER_00: But uh so he's there, and I mean, it's and she's mad because they had this horrible slash amazing passionate relationship back in, you know, 17 years ago, and now he's there to sort of make up for it.
- 27:07SPEAKER_00: But yeah, she doesn't know that yet.
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: So it's all fun because it's snowy and Christmassy and all of that good stuff, but it's funny.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: And I let I'm enjoying the ride.
- 27:17SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: And so that's what I'm reading right now.
- 27:19SPEAKER_00: And I have two books in this series to read over the next week or so, and then I'll be talking about it on the internet.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: On the internet, on the internet.
- 27:28SPEAKER_01: I'll retroactively suggest something that I've already told you about.
- 27:31SPEAKER_01: It's called Sociopath a Memoir by Patrick Gange.
- 27:36SPEAKER_01: I don't know it's like G-A-G-N-E.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: And her real name is like Patricia, but for some reason her pidname's Patrick.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: And she's that, yeah.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: So it's her.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: It's a woman.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: It's a woman.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: And her name is Patrick.
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 27:47SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: And it is cool.
- 27:48SPEAKER_01: It is, I don't know if she goes by it like in real life, but yeah, anyway.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: So she is a has a PhD.
- 27:53SPEAKER_01: She is a psychologist, researcher, blah, blah, blah.
- 27:57SPEAKER_01: She is a sociopath, diagnosed sociopath.
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: And so she starts like when she was younger and tells you all about she was like breaking into the next door neighbor's house and then just coming back with a fork.
- 28:07SPEAKER_01: And her mom would be like, Where'd you get that?
- 28:09SPEAKER_01: I broke into the neighbor's house.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: Her poor mom.
- 28:10SPEAKER_01: I want to hear a book from the perspective of her mom.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Seriously.
- 28:13SPEAKER_01: Or this girl she didn't like in middle school, she stabbed her in the neck with a pen.
- 28:17SPEAKER_01: What?
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: She's fine.
- 28:19SPEAKER_01: But oh well, good.
- 28:20SPEAKER_01: She would she's fine.
- 28:22SPEAKER_01: So she would do all these things, and then it goes all the way through her life of like how it progressed and how she was like really you don't think of a sociopath grappling with it because I think a psychopath is the one that doesn't have a conscience.
- 28:35SPEAKER_01: She doesn't have any like empathy or anything.
- 28:37SPEAKER_01: She says she just can't feel it, but she knows right from wrong, and she knew like what she was doing was wrong.
- 28:42SPEAKER_01: I know, right?
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: She knew what she was doing was wrong, and she would like at a certain age, she started realizing what she was doing was wrong and started trying to control it.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: Like, this is not socially acceptable to stab my neighbor in the neck with a pen.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: Remind me not to do that again.
- 28:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, exactly.
- 28:56SPEAKER_01: So she goes all the way through it.
- 28:57SPEAKER_01: I think like the ending, it's one of those books where the ending is like she gets a book deal to write about it.
- 29:03SPEAKER_01: Yes for being a sociobath.
- 29:05SPEAKER_01: For being a sociopath.
- 29:06SPEAKER_01: But then I listened to her on Dax Shepherd, and she's really interesting.
- 29:10SPEAKER_01: And then Dax and Monica do this little afterword thing where they're like talking about, so they're talking about the guest.
- 29:17SPEAKER_01: And they were like, I mean, what do you think?
- 29:19SPEAKER_01: Like, do you think she's playing all of us?
- 29:21SPEAKER_01: And like she, A, she could like be lying about all of it.
- 29:24SPEAKER_01: Or she could be like really evil and lying about the fact that she's modulated her bad intentions.
- 29:30SPEAKER_00: Does she have a really low voice and look like she's in the black hole suddenly music videos?
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: She does.
- 29:34SPEAKER_01: She actually started a company called Theranos.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:37SPEAKER_01: Anyway, I would recommend that sociopatha memoir.
- 29:40SPEAKER_01: Um I love that.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: That's when I started reading every memoir I could get my hands on.
- 29:45SPEAKER_01: And like I could never get the right same hit.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: The only memoir that's come close is Matthew Perry's memoir.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: The documentary on Netflix is coming out next week based on his memoir.
- 29:58SPEAKER_01: It's called The One About Matthew Perry.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: So you will have to watch that.
- 30:03SPEAKER_01: And then we can because you know it's like my hyperfixation has been Matthew Perry for a while.
- 30:08SPEAKER_00: Which I love, which I love.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: Could you be more obsessed with Matthew Perry?
- 30:14SPEAKER_01: I couldn't.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: I couldn't.
- 30:16SPEAKER_01: Okay, so I read this thing about how people are going on this primal food diet.
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: And is the brand called primal foods?
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: No.
- 30:25SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: I'm sure there is.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 30:27SPEAKER_01: But this this primal diet is like you eat organ meat and you eat raw food.
- 30:33SPEAKER_01: You never you never cook anything.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: You have raw milk, you have raw steak.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: And if you want to dip something, your steak in something, egg yolk.
- 30:41SPEAKER_00: No.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: No.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: And it's I love an egg yolk, but no.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: No.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: First of all, we came from the generation where we ate like snack wells and all-in chips.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:50SPEAKER_01: And that, and that we thought that was good.
- 30:52SPEAKER_01: Our mom was like, well, you can have a low-fat version.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: And it turns out it was terrible for us and filled with toxins.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: So we're progressing and we're like, okay, we're gonna eat whole foods.
- 31:01SPEAKER_01: You know, we're gonna have salad, carrot, sticks, and hummus if we want a snack.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: We're doing a good job with what we're doing now.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: I cannot go a step further and eat like the organ of a cow.
- 31:11SPEAKER_00: No.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: Are we starting a band called organ meat?
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: I think we should.
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: An organ meat diet includes edible animal organs and non-muscle parts.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: You shouldn't be talking about what you're about to eat like that.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: So not a pipe organ meat.
- 31:26SPEAKER_01: Such as liver, heart, kidneys, brain, tongue, yum tongue, and bone marrow.
- 31:31SPEAKER_01: No.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: Which are I mean, I know bone marrow is kind of a delicacy.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: I've never even had it.
- 31:35SPEAKER_01: Um, which are far more nutrient dense than the standard, you know, way we eat.
- 31:39SPEAKER_01: They're packed with vitamins, essential minerals, specialized compounds.
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: I don't know what that means.
- 31:44SPEAKER_01: So this is how this is what some people are doing, and it's literally crazy.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's crazy to me.
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: Insane.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: No.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: No, I mean your carrots are great, but like dip them in some ranch.
- 31:54SPEAKER_00: We're not gonna dip it in something weird.
- 31:56SPEAKER_00: No.
- 31:56SPEAKER_00: I mean, hubbice is great too, but like, no, we're we're I draw the line at organ meat.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 32:02SPEAKER_00: Like that's disgusting.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: And I if you're if you're eating organ meat listeners, great.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: But I would like to know what does it taste like?
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: What do you even mean?
- 32:10SPEAKER_00: I imagine.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: What are the benefits?
- 32:12SPEAKER_00: Do you feel so much better?
- 32:13SPEAKER_00: Stimpy cartoon where they're just like it's an up close of them of the knives going into like a heart steak or something or like a liver steak, and there's like flies around it.
- 32:22SPEAKER_00: It's disgusting.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: Tell me your gen X or without telling me your Gen X or making it written stimpy records.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 32:27SPEAKER_01: I mean, I'd still rather just eat a whole box of snack rolls.
- 32:30SPEAKER_01: Like a thousand percent.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: Give me some pizza rolls.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:33SPEAKER_01: And I love high fructose corn syrup.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: I don't eat it because I know how bad it is for me.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: But if I have something like that, I'm like, this is I can taste it.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: I can taste the oil in this, and I'm in love.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: These are the good things.
- 32:47SPEAKER_00: These are the finer things in life.
- 32:49SPEAKER_00: Have you listened to?
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: I mean, I know that we both are, like as far as like podcasts that we listen to, uh, betrayal.
- 32:55SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 32:56SPEAKER_00: Probably not all of it, but I mean so season six is out right now, and I'm enjoying it because it's it's I like the I like the ones that are six episodes long.
- 33:07SPEAKER_00: She does have like a betrayal weekly sort of thing, and it's like just one-offs of people that have gone through something crazy, you know.
- 33:14SPEAKER_00: But this one's really, really good because, and I don't want to spoil it, but it's like this man and his best friend and his boyfriend.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: And so they're all, they're all friends, and there's some crazy, crazy, crazy betrayal.
- 33:31SPEAKER_00: I'm in episode six, I think, right now.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: And it's the bad guy isn't who you think it is.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: And it never is.
- 33:36SPEAKER_00: It never is.
- 33:37SPEAKER_00: But this one is such a hard It's about friends, right?
- 33:40SPEAKER_00: Because I think it'll listen to the trailers on the easy.
- 33:42SPEAKER_01: It's not about lovers or husbands or all the people.
- 33:45SPEAKER_00: Right, exactly.
- 33:46SPEAKER_00: And yeah, it's the best friend who turns out to be the bad guy.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: And but it but the way you get there is so insane.
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: Like you're the the person that you love the most outside of romance can betray you like that and take this took it, he took this dude, I mean, through hell and back.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: Hell and back, and framed his ex-boyfriend.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: Oh wow.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 34:08SPEAKER_00: So he frames his ex-boyfriend and and successfully until all of the the something happens and you'll have to listen to it.
- 34:16SPEAKER_00: Okay, I'm gonna listen to that this week.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: It's good.
- 34:18SPEAKER_00: I'm obsessed with it.
- 34:19SPEAKER_01: I watched this documentary on Nat Geo, which I I watched that on Hulu.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: And it's called Super Scam Me.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 34:25SPEAKER_00: Aaron was talking about this the other day.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: He hasn't watched it.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: He should watch it.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: Tell me more.
- 34:30SPEAKER_01: Well, the journalist that did it is just, I'm like, she's just so likable.
- 34:33SPEAKER_01: There's something like really likable about this woman.
- 34:35SPEAKER_01: I think her name's like Marianne Zellner or something.
- 34:38SPEAKER_01: But she decides she talks about romance scam.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: She interviews some women who thought they were dating Brad Pitt and gave him$500,000.
- 34:46SPEAKER_01: That's like how it how it works basically.
- 34:49SPEAKER_01: They really, like they really this one, okay.
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: This one, the Brad Pitt one I just pulled, but this one woman on there thought, and God bless her, she's in Kentucky, you know, probably a little lonely, must be a little lonely.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: She sees it's like a Bon Jovi.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: Have you ever seen those fake celebrity pages?
- 35:06SPEAKER_01: It's like a bunch of pictures of Bon Jovi, and it's like Bon Jovi five.
- 35:10SPEAKER_01: And they're acting like they're Bon Jovi, right?
- 35:13SPEAKER_01: Is it deep fake or something different?
- 35:14SPEAKER_01: We'll get to deep fake in a bit.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: But it's just pictures of him and whatever.
- 35:19SPEAKER_01: And so she followed it because she's a longtime John Bon fan.
- 35:25SPEAKER_01: Literally, the first tape I ever had was Bon Jovi.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: Well, of course.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: Living on a prayer.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 35:29SPEAKER_00: Living on a Prayer is the best song.
- 35:31SPEAKER_00: It's truly the best.
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: You pair it with Pizza Hut and Friday Night.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 35:35SPEAKER_00: The best.
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: Oh my God.
- 35:36SPEAKER_01: I love that song.
- 35:37SPEAKER_01: Living on a prayer.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Okay, so she's obsessed with John Bon Jovi.
- 35:41SPEAKER_01: She follows him.
- 35:42SPEAKER_01: He messages her and is like messages her.
- 35:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he starts out kind of like my record company wants me to connect with my fans more and stuff.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 35:51SPEAKER_01: Believe believable, not really, but sure.
- 35:54SPEAKER_01: And so then they can start talking about everything, you know, about life and blah, blah, blah.
- 35:58SPEAKER_01: Well, it turns out he needs$5,000.
- 36:01SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: Or he can't get his next album made.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: And she believes it.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: And he only looks at Bitcoin, by the way.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: So, or for some reason it's like Amazon gift cards.
- 36:12SPEAKER_01: Like if you give if you send them gift cards or something.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: So this is the thing.
- 36:16SPEAKER_01: This is the thing.
- 36:17SPEAKER_01: This is the thing.
- 36:18SPEAKER_01: So he she does this, okay?
- 36:20SPEAKER_01: To the point she wouldn't even tell Mary Ann how much money.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: She's like, How much money did you give him?
- 36:24SPEAKER_01: And he's like, she's like, just starts crying.
- 36:26SPEAKER_01: She's like, I can't, I'm too embarrassed.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: And God bless her, she doesn't owe us that.
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: Apparently, she gave him a lot of money.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: Of course.
- 36:33SPEAKER_01: Then she shows Marianne a picture, and it's a deep fake.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: And it really does.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: It's it's John Bon Jovi like sitting there on the stoop and his mouth is moving.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: And if you want to bel, if you want to look for something, but she so didn't want to believe.
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Hey, miss you.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: I love, I mean, says her name.
- 36:50SPEAKER_01: I love our talks, and like, I'm gonna try to call you later.
- 36:53SPEAKER_01: And da da da, you know, would fake a voice when he called her.
- 36:56SPEAKER_01: I'm not sure how long it was.
- 36:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, I I don't know if it was, I think it was years almost.
- 37:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:01SPEAKER_01: Relationship with this guy.
- 37:03SPEAKER_01: And then I think she saw Marianne's kind of call for love con stories and was like, come and see if this is it.
- 37:08SPEAKER_01: So, of course, they they do something where they she finds a hacker, Marianne does, that sets up a fake Bitcoin retrieval site.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: Like it looks completely legit.
- 37:20SPEAKER_01: So they send him, like, here's where you retrieve your Bitcoin.
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: So then they could IP just he's the only person that has this site, right?
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: So then they can see who logged on.
- 37:30SPEAKER_01: And to retrieve your Bitcoin, you have to put your name and your address.
- 37:33SPEAKER_00: Uh-uh.
- 37:33SPEAKER_01: And they were like, He, this person that you've been talking to is in is in Ghana.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: And wow.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: She's, you know, dev it was sad.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: She was devastated.
- 37:43SPEAKER_01: At the end of the documentary, though, Marianne takes her to a Bon Jovi concert, which is kind of cute.
- 37:47SPEAKER_01: That is well, that's good.
- 37:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it was really cute, actually.
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: But Marianne just sets out then the part, the premise of it that I thought was interesting is then she sets out to see if she can get love con.
- 37:57SPEAKER_01: So she puts a fake that's right.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: She puts a fake profile on, and she didn't say how long.
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: She made it seem like immediately she got a bite, which I can attest to.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: I've been on dating sites, and every message you go through, you have to be like real fake, real fit.
- 38:13SPEAKER_01: You know?
- 38:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: This one time I remember I was on Hinge a couple, I don't know, 10 years ago.
- 38:19SPEAKER_01: And the pictures were just too good to be true.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: The guy looked like, like, did you take these from an Abercrombie catalog?
- 38:24SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 38:25SPEAKER_01: No one has these pictures, but I just thought it'd be funny, right?
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: So I'm like, hey, what's up?
- 38:29SPEAKER_01: We exchanged two messages, and he's like, I'd love to make you dinner.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: Will you come to my house tomorrow night?
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:35SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 38:36SPEAKER_01: And then I'll be on a dateline special next week after you lock me in the basement.
- 38:40SPEAKER_01: I literally was like, nice try.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: I cannot have Keith Morrison talking about me.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 38:43SPEAKER_01: So I was like, nice try.
- 38:45SPEAKER_01: And then I deleted it.
- 38:46SPEAKER_01: But anyway, the point is, I believe that she she probably caught a bite immediately.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: And she did.
- 38:51SPEAKER_01: And she saw that his pictures were a little suspicious.
- 38:54SPEAKER_01: Reverse image searched him, realized it wasn't what his name was.
- 38:57SPEAKER_01: This was just some other guy's profile he had stolen from.
- 38:59SPEAKER_01: So yeah, it was it was very interesting.
- 39:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:02SPEAKER_00: Scary too.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: It's like this is everywhere.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:06SPEAKER_00: Everywhere.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: I think I was almost scammed recently into and I I didn't know it until actually yesterday, but a while back, I was invited to be on a that's right.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: I was invited to be on a on Katie Lee's podcast.
- 39:22SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 39:22SPEAKER_00: And you know who Katie Lee is at?
- 39:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I do.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: She is explicit.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: She was married to who?
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: Billy Joel?
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: Billy Joel.
- 39:28SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 39:29SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 39:29SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 39:29SPEAKER_00: And actually I've met Katie Lee before because I was on the kitchen, the Food Network show.
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: So this is so believable.
- 39:36SPEAKER_00: It was believable.
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: And I responded to it and I was like, what?
- 39:39SPEAKER_00: And they were going to pay me a lot of money to be on the show.
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: And but then when it came down, like we had a technical meeting and it wasn't, it wasn't, it it just didn't feel right to me.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: And the guy was like, Oh, you're not monetizing your Facebook.
- 39:53SPEAKER_00: But he had an he had an exit, which is nothing wrong with that.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: But like it just all everything felt weird.
- 39:58SPEAKER_00: He was in Ghana.
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: He was in Ghana.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: And he was OJ's accomplice.
- 40:02SPEAKER_00: Anyway, but that fell away, and I hadn't thought about it until Aaron sent me a video yesterday, and it was this comedian on YouTube, or just a YouTuber, and he was talking about getting scammed by it being invited to be on massive celebrity Facebook Live podcasts.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:19SPEAKER_00: And and I was just like, oh my God.
- 40:22SPEAKER_00: Like I that was me, but no bank information.
- 40:26SPEAKER_00: There was nothing exchanged and you know, knock on wood, nothing's happened since then.
- 40:32SPEAKER_00: But I wonder how close I got to being scared.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: But the word Facebook Live podcast, you're not, you don't, you're not eligible.
- 40:41SPEAKER_00: Anyway, all of that, I didn't really think much of it, but I did have like a strange feeling like this isn't quite right.
- 40:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: I don't know, but this isn't quite right.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: And, you know, that's it.
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: Here's another one that's happened to two of my family members.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: I won't say who.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: Me.
- 40:55SPEAKER_01: No, kidding.
- 40:55SPEAKER_01: It didn't happen to me.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: Was it?
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: But just so you guys know, this thing happens where they call you and they say there's a warrant out for your arrest for unpaid parking tickets.
- 41:04SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 41:05SPEAKER_01: Which they will never do.
- 41:06SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 41:07SPEAKER_01: And all you have to do is wire some money to this account to pay off the tickets.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: We'll cancel your subpoena.
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: But I mean, if you get pulled over tomorrow, you're going to go to jail.
- 41:15SPEAKER_01: So you gotta, you gotta do this.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: My cousin was one of the people, and he, this guy was on the phone and asking for all this.
- 41:22SPEAKER_01: And he goes, so this was really smart.
- 41:24SPEAKER_01: He goes, I tell you what, I'm gonna come down to the station right now and get this cleared up.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no, you can't do that.
- 41:30SPEAKER_01: You actually can't clear it up the station.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: You can only clear it up with this wire thing.
- 41:33SPEAKER_01: And he's like, Oh yeah.
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: No.
- 41:35SPEAKER_01: No, I mean, there's no reason that I couldn't do it there looking at someone in the face.
- 41:39SPEAKER_01: You know, obviously.
- 41:40SPEAKER_01: And then he googles it and realizes this is like a very common thing that's been happening, but people fall for it.
- 41:46SPEAKER_01: Cause you just go, well, I mean, if I can just pay$50 or maybe they ask for more,$150.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 41:51SPEAKER_01: I don't want to think about this and I don't want to go anywhere to solve it.
- 41:55SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: Here's another one that happened to us recently, but it was on Facebook Marketplace.
- 42:01SPEAKER_00: And it was a dude, and we started selling some things on Facebook Marketplace just to make a little extra.
- 42:06SPEAKER_00: And you actually can.
- 42:07SPEAKER_00: You can make some decent money on that.
- 42:09SPEAKER_00: Anyway, so this bro, I'm using the word bro because I have 12-year-old children.
- 42:14SPEAKER_00: I use it too.
- 42:15SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 42:17SPEAKER_00: And he wanted to buy something, but oh, he couldn't.
- 42:21SPEAKER_00: He wanted to Vinmo me on behalf of his daughter, but his daughter was gonna come get it, whatever.
- 42:25SPEAKER_00: And then oops, he accidentally Vinmoed me too much.
- 42:29SPEAKER_00: Too much.
- 42:30SPEAKER_00: So I was gonna have to Venmo him back.
- 42:33SPEAKER_00: And it was, it just got it got to be so strange, so fast.
- 42:37SPEAKER_00: And I and we we knew it.
- 42:39SPEAKER_00: We were our guts were like, this ain't right.
- 42:41SPEAKER_00: And but he it was it looked so legit.
- 42:44SPEAKER_00: He sent an email from Venmo and it was like Venmo, uh error.
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: We sent you this wrong, we sent you uh, you know, a thousand dollars too much.
- 42:52SPEAKER_00: Can you send that thousand dollars back?
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, and to this address.
- 42:57SPEAKER_00: And I was like, no, because when I go into my Venmo, I don't see that here.
- 43:02SPEAKER_00: And so I'm not Venmoing you, I'm not returning anything.
- 43:05SPEAKER_00: Anyway, Aaron was like, that's a scam for sure.
- 43:09SPEAKER_00: Like, no.
- 43:10SPEAKER_00: And so I was just I it was a real quick, no, we I can see what's going on here, and please don't contact me again.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah and so that was cut down, I mean, you know, shut down really fast.
- 43:19SPEAKER_00: But they're scary.
- 43:20SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 43:21SPEAKER_01: I feel they're so scary.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: They're so real.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: My life at this age with parents that are late 70s and early 80s is just trying to get them to not give their social security on their phones.
- 43:29SPEAKER_01: I'll be at their house in the kitchen or something, and I won't be like, who are you talking to?
- 43:33SPEAKER_01: Why are you saying that?
- 43:34SPEAKER_01: Why are you saying that?
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 43:35SPEAKER_01: Well, it's this guy that called about a home warrant, you know.
- 43:38SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, but I mean, we have lots of talks about scamming, yeah.
- 43:42SPEAKER_01: Um education in my house.
- 43:44SPEAKER_01: Don't let Bon Jovi scam you.
- 43:46SPEAKER_01: I'm telling you, it's all about Bon Jovies out there to get you.
- 43:49SPEAKER_00: Well, that's all for this week.
- 43:51SPEAKER_00: Don't forget to like, follow, and share the show because this is the way we feed our kids.
- 43:56SPEAKER_00: And our dog.
