- 0:26[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be talking about our favorite TV shows of all time, and then we're going to go like on a string of TV shows, because
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: You know, we're not just about movies, we are media.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: We are media people.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: Media, it takes everything in radio, TV, newspapers.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: Well, not so much newspaper.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to say newspapers.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_01]: No.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, radio, TV, movies, that's pretty much our thing.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_01]: TV movies and, you know, pop culture.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: Probably not the culture that we've got.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_01]: But, anyway, culture.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_01]: So, I'm Chris Miles Cohen of cheesy popcorn is sitting across from me is.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_00]: this is Ann of our co-host of can I call you dad, which we're looking to revive again for third season so stay tuned to that we hope to get that out soon and of course he's also the co-host of cheesy popcorn and we're going to talk about cheesy popcorn which is the other show on the co-host of
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so what we do of course here if you're a newcomer, which I don't think there are a lot of you out there anymore I don't there are a lot of the way I do want to say say thanks to a lot of the people that have shared with me comments and things of that nature Please put your comments up either on Apple music or on Spotify or whatever So that we can keep a record and track of a we'd love to interact with you there as well, too But here's what we do on the show.
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: We talk about the movies that are coming out this week
- 1:48[SPEAKER_01]: We'll pick a movie that we're going to see possibly might be a TV show.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see And then this week in particular.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to review TV shows And of ours chosen to review the chosen.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to review you for you and then around the show We're going to pick our top five favorite TV shows of all time.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: So Like we do on every show.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: Let's talk about what's coming out this week.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: Did you have any Preview thing anything you want to disay or anything like that?
- 2:16[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm for this week.
- 2:17[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to let you go ahead and do the preview stuff.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: Normally I do it, but I feel like I've taken that part over.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I feel bad for you.
- 2:24[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm going to let you go ahead and do it, Chris, because my wife was nice enough to say that I should allow you to speak more on the show as did my grandson.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: By the way, you have shout out.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: To Tino last week for his review of minions.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: He did a great job He's anxious to come back and do more by the way Well, that is specifically why I said everybody needs to leave their comments because a lot of people comment that I mean and said that Tino needs to replace you And a lot of people I know they didn't write it in the comments, but they told me that he needs to replace you Of course, yeah anyway just saying yeah, of course you are
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: But yeah, so he's welcome on the show anytime even if you want to review something that like I mean if he wants to come in and give us a review on you know some other movie or TV show or whatever he's more than welcome I'd love to have him physical here in the studio to I think it'd be better the sound quality was a little off from the phone a little bit so you know I mean there's ways that we can fix that post production but yeah
- 3:21[SPEAKER_01]: but still was a phone better Mike's it's better to have everybody here in this yeah so you know you're welcome anytime that you're available just make sure you get permission and would love to have you
- 3:33[SPEAKER_01]: So, coming out this week, we've got the Odyssey, which I think is probably the biggest and highly anticipated movie this weekend.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: And coincidentally, there's not a whole extra heck of a lot coming out.
- 3:46[SPEAKER_01]: So I guess maybe the directors decided that this would be a good time to release the movie.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_01]: What's it about?
- 3:54[SPEAKER_01]: It's basically about a poem written by this guy, Homer, follows the Greek king Odysseus on his perilous monster-filled decade-long journey home to Ithaca after the of course Trojan War.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: It looks really cool and it's supposed to be using a lot of next generation iMac's film technology as well So a lot of people have said they want to see it in iMacs If you are going to see it, just take that under advice because it's supposed to be amazing on on the on iMacs It starts Mac Damon as Odysseus and half the ways in it Tom Highland and then also Robert Patterson rounding out the the big names of the the movie looks pretty good
- 4:42[SPEAKER_01]: But I'm curious to see what you have to say about it.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_01]: But you said you're going to be quiet for this session.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_00]: So, what I can talk about the eye, the whole idea of the eye to see obviously.
- 4:52[SPEAKER_00]: But I'll probably see it.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: But I think I mentioned this one time before.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure that Matt Damon was cast well for this.
- 5:04[SPEAKER_00]: I hope to be pleasantly surprised.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_00]: And hopefully there's no Jimmy Kimmel Camille somewhere along the line in the movie.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: You never know, he could play a slave.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: He could, I think, man, would like that.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so the hawk is up next, there's really not many other movies coming out this week.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like I said, like I've said previously on our like I have said on previous shows, we don't talk about limited release movies just because they may not be available in your area.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_01]: So since we are switching over to TV,
- 5:41[SPEAKER_01]: as far as our main topic of conversation is concerned.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_01]: I thought let's highlight some of the actual TV shows that are going to be showing up on like your subscription services.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: So of course, this excludes you as well, there are my goals.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: We all know you're your plate against them.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: But the hawk actually came out yesterday as a matter of fact.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_01]: It's a sports comedy series premiering on Netflix.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_01]: It follows Lonnie the Hawke Hawkins, a legendary but highly chaotic pro golfer.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: who basically is like the world's number one player back in like 20-04 and on the back nine of his career he feuses to retire and vitally he chases one final major tournament to complete his grand slam dragging his family into the absolute chaos its stars will feral molly shannons in it uh... timid torturo or uh... torturo sorry
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: And then Luke Wilson is in it as well, too.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_01]: Um, my thoughts on this.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_01]: Uh, it feels too much like a happy Gilmore wannabe.
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I was just gonna say.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_01]: And the other thing is, it's like, I think Will Ferrell's kind of like, I'm just gonna say it.
- 6:45[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody's gonna like what I'm about to say, but I think he's done.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they had him doing the, uh, home run Derby.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_00]: And, yeah, there are two other guys I can't remember, but I know Will Furrow was on there and it just didn't work for me.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought the exact same thing when I saw the trailer for this movie, Happy Girl More 3.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's a TV series, just FYI.
- 7:11[SPEAKER_01]: So there's multiple episodes, it's not a movie.
- 7:13[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that doesn't make it bad.
- 7:17[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't look to see how many episodes there's supposed to be, but I was just kind of like I know there's at least five I can tell you that much and I'm like I think that's five episodes too many and it might surprise us.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, we haven't seen it so we're going to say I didn't just our first my first it's the probably we agree my first both our first inclination was a happy good more.
- 7:39[SPEAKER_01]: copy I guess for one of a better word yeah it's almost like they decided to take shoot him a Gavin and actually like give him an actual like TV show but then call him something else and have a completely different actor play him but anyway so that's out there on Netflix I did not start watching it at all last night and Netflix not by the way oh well congratulations this is one of what's the home run there welcome to the real world signed up for the dollar fifty oh there we go you get to what five minutes at a time then they go to 30 minutes
- 8:09[SPEAKER_00]: But it's only a buck 50 a month.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_01]: Man, here you go.
- 8:12[SPEAKER_00]: Here's a question since we're on this.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: Where have we gone wrong?
- 8:18[SPEAKER_00]: Where America's pastime is not available to all of America.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: in terms of the All-Star game.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: I'm 71, this is the first year that the All-Star game has not been an open television so that everyone in America could enjoy quote unquote America's pastime.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: That I got Netflix to watch it, but it really bothered me that the whole time they're talking about it to America's pastime and there are probably millions and millions and millions of people who can watch it.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_01]: But think about the millions of people who couldn't watch it when it was on regular broadcast TV and now how it's available across there were more people who could watch the regular TV the entire world if you're talking about America yes, but Netflix is like a global situation so that actually probably expanded the audience more than expanded here wasn't about expanding it is it is if you're calling it America's pastime soccer, yes, soccer is a worldwide sport.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_01]: As far as the commentators are concerned, that's probably what they said, but I'll guarantee you that the officials running an MLB were trying to give that to a wider audience.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the people.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, more bang for your buck there, more money for somebody.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_01]: exactly.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_01]: Speaking of one money from somebody, another descendants film is coming out.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_01]: It's actually the fifth installment.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_01]: It's called the sentence, wicked wonderland.
- 9:41[SPEAKER_01]: Of course, going to be available on Disney+.
- 9:43[SPEAKER_01]: Plus, it's the direct sequel to the rise of the red.
- 9:47[SPEAKER_01]: And of course, we're talking about, uh,
- 9:51[SPEAKER_01]: things accidentally being triggered in a timeline kind of like a butterfly effect sort of situation.
- 9:57[SPEAKER_01]: Red and Chloe are going to journey down the rabbit hole into a transform one land to save the queen of hearts from a new villain.
- 10:04[SPEAKER_01]: Maddox Hatter, which just sounds to me like another way to reword Mad Hatter.
- 10:10[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, Kylie control is in it.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_01]: Mealabaker, Rita Orro, Brandy, play Cinderella, reviving her role.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_01]: I think she played, I don't think she played Cinderella like in the remake, but I think she's played Cinderella once before and something else.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_01]: And then Aquafina, voice, she's the cat.
- 10:33[SPEAKER_01]: water is everyone so that we can't exist and so is Aquafina yeah so there you go yeah not on my list you your your grandkids are gonna watch that or anything like that they might they might okay they might all right last but at least coming out on Hulu
- 10:53[SPEAKER_01]: a powerful coming of age boxing drama called they fight really they do uh... it's right at the sea will be they fought or well that's that's if they go past times like if they that would be a reave that would be a review of it like you call it they fought when you re-re-re-re-re-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: or return of the fighter or return of the fight or return of the fight or will they do get out part two you don't hear that term alone no it's said in southeast Washington DC
- 11:32[SPEAKER_01]: And it's basically a reformed X-Convict who's seeking redemption decides to return to a crumbling boxing gym, to coach a rag tag trio of raw teenage athletes, trying to lift them out of their circumstances and guide them to the Junior Olympic National Championship.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_01]: Why does this feel like a rocky like spin-off?
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, they all start to feel kind of that way.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_00]: And actually there's a movie coming out in November that tells the story.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you saw it.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: I play Rocky.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it comes out of November, so how could I have seen it?
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: Well, I'm saying the trailer.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: You didn't say the trailer.
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: You just said it comes out of November.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know if you saw it.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: And it's the story is still on and how we got the whole thing going.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, pretty much any underdog boxing movie is going to feel like Rocky.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_00]: That's pretty much it.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: And you said you star in this Rocky documentary?
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: Is that what you said?
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: I do what I star in it.
- 12:20[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, okay.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: I play right.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_01]: Oh.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: you probably.
- 12:28[SPEAKER_00]: Are you doing?
- 12:29[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to get you sister.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, you're ageing.
- 12:32[SPEAKER_01]: Stick to your day job.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_00]: These are my turtles.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: They're called Dick and Butkis.
- 12:37[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, there you go.
- 12:39[SPEAKER_01]: So that's a look at the movie slash TV shows that are coming out this weekend again.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: They only real major theatrical release is the Odyssey.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: So I will ask you is that our review for the week or
- 12:53[SPEAKER_00]: We have to go see, we got yelled at for not going to see Toy Story 5.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's your, okay, well, but by our co, our guest, our guest, but we had, we had other situations going on that let us not be able to be around and available to go see Toy Story 5.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: We were told that we shouldn't have done minions, we should have done Toy Story 5 so.
- 13:13[SPEAKER_00]: Well, so we have to do out at sea because we're going to get that again.
- 13:16[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if they're wrong.
- 13:19[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: That should be the name of the show.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone has to tell us that you're not even a cheesy popcorn given to your ring talk show or not a game show the quick game show there you go stop giving away your ideas on the podcast yeah you need to stop giving away your ideas on this podcast all right so we're in um... unanimous decision here
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, the Odyssey will be the movie that we're going to go see next week.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_01]: Are you going to see it in, uh, in IMAX?
- 13:45[SPEAKER_01]: No, no, boring.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: Nope.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: I saw, I saw minions and IMAX because that was the only show that had seats available when we went.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, you know, I am a, I'm a conscientious objecter to a lot of this stuff.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think a lot of this, like,
- 14:08[SPEAKER_00]: 5k TV and all this stuff, I think it's geared towards professionals in the industry and not to the average guy at home, sitting in his underwear drinking a beer, watching something.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think they can tell 3k from 5k.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: That's my opinion.
- 14:21[SPEAKER_00]: You can totally tell.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: You can.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_00]: I can totally tell.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_00]: The average person in the 95% of Americans cannot tell.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: They can't tell of something shot on video or film.
- 14:33[SPEAKER_01]: You can totally tell.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: There's a great tell.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_00]: You and I could tell.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: They couldn't.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_01]: The average layperson can.
- 14:40[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of it.
- 14:41[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like iPhones.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: iPhone 16, 17, 18.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: You know, you just change the number.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_00]: You just and add a camera, really.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: It's, I think it's a lot of that is just illusion for people who, the people who feel like they have to have the next best thing.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: And every six months there's a new iPhone.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: There's a new this.
- 15:03[SPEAKER_00]: There's a new, come on.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: I have an iPhone SE II generation.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: It's like nine levels behind or 10.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think you're more than nine.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: And it works fine.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: It works fine.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's got 4K video.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't give a 4K about it.
- 15:21[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not going to spend $2,000 on a phone, just because they said it's the iPhone 16.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_01]: Right, and up until recently, you wouldn't have spent $1.50 on Netflix either.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: So there we go.
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: Well, yeah, that's right, that's right.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: So moving on.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_00]: Just keep your show.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_00]: That's what I'll cut it around.
- 15:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, more than a rant.
- 15:40[SPEAKER_01]: I kicked your soapbox out from underneath you too.
- 15:43[SPEAKER_01]: So speaking of this,
- 15:46[SPEAKER_01]: rant area that you want to let you let's let you continue so you can rant on about the these TV show you want to review this week which is called the chosen.
- 15:59[SPEAKER_00]: So if you are into inspirational feel good family
- 16:18[SPEAKER_00]: That you drama sorta, this is the show for you.
- 16:23[SPEAKER_00]: The chosen is the story of Jesus told as never before.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen Jesus of Nazareth, King of Kings, all of these movies that they made about Jesus, even the, what's the one that Mel Gibson made, the last temptation of Christ.
- 16:41[SPEAKER_00]: This is the closest to what I believe would be the story of Jesus.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_00]: First of all, it's acted by people who were probably the genre of people who were there at the time.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_00]: all of them.
- 16:58[SPEAKER_00]: Jonathan Romney does a fabulous job.
- 17:01[SPEAKER_00]: Second of all, it shows him as the human person that he would have been, if you believe it, if you believe in Jesus and that he came and was born of Mary and became man, then this portrayal is right there, humor.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: compassion, anger, sadness, joy, all of those emotions are portrayed in this movie beautifully where I've never seen it before, in this type of, of a, of a documentary drama, is there in season, season six is about to come out, that ended at the Jesus being turned over to the Romans, that's where season five ended with the betrayal of Judas.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_00]: And everybody plays their role really, really, really well.
- 17:56[SPEAKER_00]: The same as Jonathan Romney, the only character actor I'm not real crazy about, the guy that's playing Simon Peter.
- 18:02[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not real soul down him, but all the other portrayals of the apostles seem to fit right in what I've read in the Bible and what I've heard over the years and years of Catholic education.
- 18:16[SPEAKER_00]: The cinematography is really, really good.
- 18:19[SPEAKER_00]: the music score is fabulous.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_00]: The again, the emotions in here played by Jonathan Romney doing Jesus are so realistic is the best word I could say.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_00]: If you're watching this and you don't come away saying okay that's probably what he was like at that time.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I binge watched, I watched the first episode at like 11 o'clock at night, and I started watching episode one and I did it watching all the season one and one night, I stayed up to like 233 o'clock in the morning, and then I started watching them at night, season two, three, four, five, all the way through to the end of five, and I just got hooked, I got hooked on the realism, the realism, and the beautiful cinematography,
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: and costuming, and it's not over the top.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like some of these other Jesus movies that have come out over the years, there are, everything is real over the top.
- 19:29[SPEAKER_00]: This one has really believable for one of a better word, very believable.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: And so that's my pick for,
- 19:39[SPEAKER_00]: for TV's show right now that's on right now that season six is about to hit so if you haven't watched any of it go back watch you got to start from season one or you gonna miss a lot and if you don't agree with me put in the comments but um i think if you start watching this and and this is your kind of thing you will you will season one you're gonna be hooked and then you're gonna want want to watch it all.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_00]: and work and they watch the chosen it's on HBO it's on a prime it's on prime it'll be out on prime when it comes out there are all five seasons are in prime right now all the way to season five in the last episode season six is about to come out so you do have another streaming service I've always had prime and look we know how the story ends obviously but this series
- 20:32[SPEAKER_00]: really brought to light so much more than any other story about Jesus ever had in my opinion.
- 20:40[SPEAKER_00]: And I if I'd afraid it, the only one I'll ever do, I give it a 10.
- 20:46[SPEAKER_00]: Wow, unless Will Ferrell's movie is really really good.
- 20:49[SPEAKER_00]: If that series is good, it's not a movie and I'll give it a 10, but I've been very much this is a 10.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_00]: This series, the chosen is a 10.
- 21:00[SPEAKER_01]: the hawk, which is Will Ferrell's new series, is a series, not a movie.
- 21:07[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: How can I do that?
- 21:09[SPEAKER_01]: It came out yesterday.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 21:15[SPEAKER_01]: And we also talked to what we were reviewing on the last episode.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway.
- 21:19[SPEAKER_01]: All right.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: So you went to Prime, as far as streaming servers is concerned, I'm going to go to HBO Max.
- 21:28[SPEAKER_01]: uh... and i'm going to review a tv series uh... fits been it's got three three seasons out uh... unfortunately do not feel like it's going to go past that just from the way the third series ended i will not try to spoil as much as i possibly can uh... but the tv show uh... stars actors and actresses uh... like i don't know uh... then day uh
- 21:51[SPEAKER_01]: Hunter Schaefer who may or may not be a name for some of you.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: Sidney Swenney, a lot of people know a lot of you know her.
- 21:59[SPEAKER_01]: Jacob O'Lordy, Alexa Demay, Mod Apptow, yes from that family.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_01]: A gentleman by the name of Agnes Clawd who unfortunately is no longer with us, but a bright young actor in and of himself.
- 22:14[SPEAKER_01]: Eric Dane, Stormread, Nika King, and then in season three, almost exclusively, Coleman Domingo who is the game show host for the remake of Total Recall, not Total Recall, the running man.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: And when we reviewed the running man so many episodes ago, I had said that
- 22:40[SPEAKER_01]: if he doesn't do a very good job then like the things gonna flop and I thought he had a very interesting and different take on the game show host but I also the script there was written a little bit different with you but I'm getting off topic and I've been told that I need to make sure that I stay on topic otherwise I'm going to get guided back to it.
- 23:00[SPEAKER_01]: So what is you for your all about?
- 23:03[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to say it's all about sex drugs and rock and roll but it's not.
- 23:07[SPEAKER_01]: because there's not much rock roll in it.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: Although there's great sound, there's great music throughout the entire show.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: It's basically about growing up as a teenager in suburban California pretty much.
- 23:23[SPEAKER_01]: And what happens to the stereo types, I guess, of people that you see kind of coming out of high school, right?
- 23:30[SPEAKER_01]: You've got the jocks, you've got the cheerleaders, you've got the real pretty girls, you've got the drug dopeies, and, you know, the theater people and stuff like that, and the kids who just don't fit in, right?
- 23:41[SPEAKER_01]: And this show really takes a look at a bunch of those Will column archetypes just to kind of give it a name, right?
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: And like what can happen?
- 23:51[SPEAKER_01]: And a friend of mine at work who I have a lot of banter with about TV shows and movies and stuff said, I should check this out.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: And I said, all right, cool.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_01]: And he had already watched, I think at that point he had watched most of
- 24:04[SPEAKER_01]: Most of season three and he was like, I'm interested to hear your take on this.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_01]: Well, here's my take on it Season one it was like what high school would have been for probably a lot of kids I think in some way shape or form no matter how old or young you are I think there's going to be something about that show that is going to it's going to be relevant to you or at least something that you can associate with
- 24:25[SPEAKER_01]: you know, like I said, you got the drug use.
- 24:26[SPEAKER_01]: You've got the popular kids.
- 24:28[SPEAKER_01]: You've got the cheerleaders.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: You've got the football players.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_01]: You've got all those crowds and all of these people intermingling as a matter of fact.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: You've even got people who are hooked on drugs and, you know, do do, uh,
- 24:41[SPEAKER_01]: due to really bad situations that happened in particular character's lives, that's where they went, that's how they were dealing with stuff.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: And here's why I'm saying all that stuff.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_01]: So the gentleman that I was speaking to about this is this real life, like, did some of this stuff really happen?
- 24:56[SPEAKER_01]: And the reality is that
- 24:59[SPEAKER_01]: while euphoria may be a overexaggeration of things at times, it is very much, at least for me and my upbringing of the, I want to a couple different high schools.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: The, those groups, those clicks, as you will call them, as some will call them, they exist still to this day.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, there's kids who get ignored because, you know, they just don't fit in.
- 25:23[SPEAKER_01]: there's kids who who fit in and still get ignored.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_01]: There's people who have, you know, who are absolutely gorgeous, but still have problems with the fact that they feel fat and things of that nature.
- 25:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't feel like this show moved away or shy away from any particular topic or anything like that.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: There was a lot of mental health things that were going on as well.
- 25:44[SPEAKER_01]: The season one is,
- 25:46[SPEAKER_01]: like sophomore, junior year, high school kind of stuff, season two is like senior year basically and the continuation story of all of these different characters.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to give too much away in case you haven't seen it, but season three is a completely different shift from what you're expecting and of course there was quite some time that evolved between one season one and season two were shot as well as one season three was and season three is just
- 26:16[SPEAKER_01]: I would almost say that Sam Levinson, who is the creator, writer and main director of the series, I would say that at some point he must have come up with this amazing concept of what's going to happen with these people as they get into life and move on down the road.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_01]: You can't even call this like an after college experience or during college experience.
- 26:39[SPEAKER_01]: This is like these people establishing themselves in the real world.
- 26:44[SPEAKER_01]: I got to tell you that there is not a single episode that is not interesting and riveting and just amazingly well written and amazingly cinematographic.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_01]: There are bits and pieces of nudity, it is not for the kiddos, so please do not let them see this.
- 26:59[SPEAKER_01]: There's drug use, there's profanity, there's violence, abuse, a lot of things that probably a lot of people are going to show out shy away from.
- 27:08[SPEAKER_01]: If you're, you know,
- 27:10[SPEAKER_01]: Not of those, not a person that enjoys those things, I don't think that euphoria is going to be for you.
- 27:15[SPEAKER_01]: Now, if you don't have
- 27:18[SPEAKER_01]: too many qualms about it and i'm not saying that somebody who does not appreciate those those things has qualms but if you are more open well as i was telling the the individual that i was talking about this you need a very open mind from beginning to end to really be able to appreciate this because there's a lot of political statements in this there's a lot of genders things going on i mean there's a one of the characters ex is actually a transgender
- 27:44[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a lot of different relationships that some people would say are not, you know, the norm, not the way that it should be.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_01]: And it takes somebody who has an open mind to really enjoy the show.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm not saying that somebody who, you know, doesn't have an open mind may not find it interesting.
- 28:00[SPEAKER_01]: Who knows?
- 28:00[SPEAKER_01]: It may open up different ideals for them.
- 28:03[SPEAKER_01]: And they may see the world for, you know, what it can be in a whole different world.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: You four, as you said, absolutely, I was riveted from the very first episode.
- 28:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's not one of those shows that it took me a while to get into.
- 28:17[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe, you know, because
- 28:21[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I didn't have a traumatic high school experience.
- 28:23[SPEAKER_01]: I was one of the kids who, you know, I was a transfer student.
- 28:27[SPEAKER_01]: So I didn't grow up with the crowd that high school, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't start in kindergarten and I didn't grow up with all these kids.
- 28:33[SPEAKER_01]: So I had to make friends while I was in high school with all these new people in the suburbs.
- 28:36[SPEAKER_01]: I grew up in the city.
- 28:38[SPEAKER_01]: So there's a totally different mentality of growing up in the city than there is growing up in the suburbs.
- 28:42[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, maybe that's why it connected with me more.
- 28:46[SPEAKER_01]: But it's still a great show.
- 28:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's definitely something you should watch.
- 28:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm going to give it, I mean, it's it the third season.
- 28:57[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to really, is it on something else beside you people, Max, I seem to have said so.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's only on HBO Max.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_01]: I don't want to pigeonhole into something, but it doesn't tell the story the way pulp fiction does, but that riveting back and forth nature of pulp fiction and how you go from one story to the next and you're back and forth and everything.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then the character, there's one character that kind of narrates through the whole thing.
- 29:23[SPEAKER_01]: as well.
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: So anyway, I think that like I've babbled enough and you're looking at me like I'm babbling too much.
- 29:29[SPEAKER_01]: So you for a check it out.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't checked it out, just remember keep an open mind and I think you're really going to enjoy it.
- 29:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I think you did a fabulous job on that, sir.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's the first time you've actually said I've done something well on this show ever.
- 29:44[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to, we're going to be the last as well.
- 29:46[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, of course.
- 29:48[SPEAKER_01]: I knew I shouldn't have said anything.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: I knew it was going to last longer.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_00]: I've seen the euphoria thing like the picture of it, but I didn't know if it was just on HBO Max.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't seen it.
- 29:58[SPEAKER_00]: I heard a lot of good things about it though.
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: It is very good.
- 30:02[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't win a bunch of Emmys.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I don't know that for sure.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it did.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: It probably should have.
- 30:16[SPEAKER_00]: you could check with and meantime we are going to move on to our top five TV shows of all time.
- 30:22[SPEAKER_00]: Correct.
- 30:24[SPEAKER_01]: It is one numerous major accolades.
- 30:29[SPEAKER_01]: Emmy awards for outstanding lead actress.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: I want a golden glow book in glow.
- 30:34[SPEAKER_00]: That's the old.
- 30:35[SPEAKER_01]: I'm outstanding great outstanding guest actor, director's Guild of America, outstanding music and lyrics.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, it's one it's one quite a bit.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, if you want to total them 40 award wins and over 120 nominations across its run.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_00]: Wow.
- 30:50[SPEAKER_00]: So it's an honor just to be nominated.
- 30:54[SPEAKER_01]: Yep.
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: Primetime Emmy Awards, a powerhouse at the Primetime Emmy Awards, multiple trophies for its cast and creative crew as well.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: So, again, it's an award winner and there's a reason why it is.
- 31:06[SPEAKER_01]: So, there you go.
- 31:07[SPEAKER_01]: But yes, back on track, the top five, our top five favorite TV shows of all time.
- 31:12[SPEAKER_01]: These are not limited to any genre.
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's just literally like, hey, this is a show I like and you know whatever.
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: So, go for it because I'm sure you also
- 31:23[SPEAKER_00]: I don't have five of any of these categories, but I broke mine into categories, because I think I'm 71 and I can do this.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_00]: So, classic television, classic television, in my opinion, one and really close to our gun smoke and bananza.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: Both Westerns, gun smoke was on for over 20 years, bananza was on close to that, if not 20.
- 31:49[SPEAKER_01]: And what are you defining as classic television?
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you know, 50, 60s.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, crap.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_00]: There.
- 31:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's where we landed.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: It was a Mimnans.
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: It was color.
- 31:57[SPEAKER_00]: Gunsmoke was black and white.
- 31:58[SPEAKER_00]: When the answer, obviously, was, you know, Ben Cartwright and his sons running the Pandorosa, not the steak house, but the ranch.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_01]: You know that, it still exists.
- 32:09[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, Pandorosa, yeah.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_00]: There's some.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: There's a few.
- 32:11[SPEAKER_00]: There's a few.
- 32:12[SPEAKER_00]: And Gunsmoke was a tough sheriff running a town.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_00]: And his girlfriend was Miss Kitty.
- 32:21[SPEAKER_00]: who ran the saloon, and of course he had his deputy was a guy named Festus, which sounds like something you don't want to catch on vacation.
- 32:31[SPEAKER_00]: And the funniest thing, Gunsport was not a funny show, however, there were moments of humor.
- 32:37[SPEAKER_00]: What I thought was always the funniest was whenever someone got shot, which was every show, every episode.
- 32:43[SPEAKER_00]: And they had to find the doc.
- 32:45[SPEAKER_00]: He was always in the saloon.
- 32:48[SPEAKER_00]: every time they would go get them at the saloon.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, is that really where doctors should be hanging out?
- 32:58[SPEAKER_00]: Is a saloon?
- 32:59[SPEAKER_00]: So that was kind of funny.
- 33:01[SPEAKER_00]: A little more modern, a little more modern.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: My favorite comedies going back a little ways would be Frazier, Cheers, and Barney Miller.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_00]: I watched those religiously.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_00]: In fact, I worked at ABC television for 10 years, as you know, and we had an event for some reason.
- 33:26[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, it was Oprah was taking over the show, it used to be AM Chicago.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: they were getting rid of Rob Weller, you might remember him, and they were giving no further show on her own.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: Not national yet.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: It was the Oprah Winfee show at the time.
- 33:42[SPEAKER_00]: And we were standing there and I didn't realize the GM was standing one person over, and the guy next to me said, did you watch this show that was on ABC?
- 33:55[SPEAKER_00]: It was, this was a Friday morning.
- 33:57[SPEAKER_00]: And that's it now.
- 33:58[SPEAKER_00]: As the Thursday night, are you kidding?
- 34:01[SPEAKER_00]: I'm glued to Channel 5 to NBC.
- 34:04[SPEAKER_00]: Cause be cheers.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_00]: Bernie Miller.
- 34:09[SPEAKER_00]: Hill Street Blues 7 to 10 that was the lineup that was my lineup.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_00]: I'm saying the next to the GM who's my boss and saying that.
- 34:18[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that he heard it.
- 34:20[SPEAKER_00]: He didn't say anything.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_00]: I probably didn't hear it, but those those three then bring it forward.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody loves Raymond.
- 34:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's in that category.
- 34:30[SPEAKER_00]: And then Ted Lasso is my most
- 34:33[SPEAKER_00]: I guess my most modern Ted Lasso, my son turned me on to Ted Lasso, and I've gotten into that, I think I'm in episode three, or season three.
- 34:41[SPEAKER_00]: History Blues I mentioned, I don't think there is a better cop drama that has ever been made than History Blues.
- 34:48[SPEAKER_00]: And when they came out with the other one with what's his name,
- 34:53[SPEAKER_00]: Was it NYPD Blue?
- 34:54[SPEAKER_00]: Was that what it was come on with that shaky cam crap that they started?
- 34:58[SPEAKER_00]: I I never I think I went to one episode of that and it just didn't do anything for me.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: Hill Street Blues I never missed an episode and that was before the days of DVR by the way So I had to make sure I was home to watch Hill Street Blues to characters the story lines the the directing everything was was perfect on that show And especially the fact that they didn't have shaky cam
- 35:21[SPEAKER_00]: which I think is the dumbest thing anybody ever came up with for filming TV or movies.
- 35:28[SPEAKER_00]: It's so stupid.
- 35:30[SPEAKER_00]: Then I had one more category which was a two more cat.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: It's talk, Johnny Carson, nobody is ever going to beat him.
- 35:36[SPEAKER_00]: That he's always going to be number one.
- 35:38[SPEAKER_00]: And for variety, for variety shows, I'm going with Kuro Burnett.
- 35:41[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think anybody's ever going to beat that show.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_00]: So those are my top picks for TV shows.
- 35:47[SPEAKER_00]: And classic modern, one drama.
- 35:53[SPEAKER_00]: You know, I watch the LA, I watch all the other shows.
- 35:55[SPEAKER_00]: I tried to watch NYPD Blue just with two.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't.
- 36:01[SPEAKER_00]: I think you go back, go back and go on, go find Hill Street Blues and watch one or two episodes of Hill Street Blues and you'll be hooked in my opinion.
- 36:16[SPEAKER_00]: And that's all I have to say.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_01]: So you mentioned a TV show that is on a streaming service that I know you don't have.
- 36:21[SPEAKER_01]: So how do you watch Ted Lasso that's on Apple TV?
- 36:24[SPEAKER_01]: I have Apple TV.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, there's another streaming service you own.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_00]: I have able to be through my daughter-in-law autumn.
- 36:32[SPEAKER_00]: She was nice.
- 36:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 36:36[SPEAKER_01]: So nobody wants to be sold out about the fact that they're sharing their subscriptions.
- 36:39[SPEAKER_00]: Once our month found out that I had it, he goes, you got to watch it said a lot.
- 36:42[SPEAKER_00]: So he was right.
- 36:43[SPEAKER_00]: I decided this episode 1, 2, 3, 4.
- 36:46[SPEAKER_00]: I told him my favorite character is the very outspoken player.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: And I can't think of his name up to top my head, but he's going to get me out of me for this, obviously.
- 36:55[SPEAKER_00]: I like that guy a lot because he's outwardly outspoken, but he's inwardly very compassionate and kind and caring, and I like that.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_01]: Since you have Apple TV, you should check out your friends and neighbors.
- 37:15[SPEAKER_00]: I saw that the other day, and I was going to check it out, who's in that?
- 37:23[SPEAKER_00]: uh... i'm blanking at his uh... john ham ok yeah i like john ham and i never watch madman i probably would like madman and ever watched it oh my god if you haven't seen madman why i think i got to go catch that because i like john ham i think he's he's one of those he's like a lesley nealson in that he started out dramatic and his comedic rose i really in
- 37:47[SPEAKER_00]: He's got great comic timing.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_00]: It's a commercial that he's been doing lately for Carvana.
- 37:53[SPEAKER_00]: He's just, I think he hosted Saturday Night Live.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: And he was one of the best set in the Night Live host I'd seen.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_00]: So you know, I'm gonna go watch, that's our friends and neighbors and madmen.
- 38:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 38:06[SPEAKER_00]: Do you have a favor and check out Hill Street Blues?
- 38:10[SPEAKER_00]: You should be able to find it somewhere.
- 38:12[SPEAKER_00]: If you're into cop dramas, again, I don't think there's ever been a better one.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: Unless you want to go back to the early days of TV and drag net.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I doubt it.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: So now Chris has the microphone here.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_00]: You're going to go and take a nap or play on your phone.
- 38:34[SPEAKER_01]: Here is the list my list and actually I have to give an honorable mention now just because of the fact that you be rated the show and just to piss you off.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_00]: Also because it's really good, but that's beside the point.
- 38:46[SPEAKER_01]: All right, so first and foremost, although the final of this show, like the last two or three episodes, our actual absolute dog crap, the way this show ended is ridiculous.
- 39:00[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like in the next round, I think it was called Dexter Resurrection, I feel like they tried to make up for what happened.
- 39:07[SPEAKER_01]: But everyone who's seen it will almost unanimously probably agree with me.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_01]: The first like seven seasons of Dexter were absolutely amazing.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_01]: So the first show that I'm picking it's Dexter.
- 39:18[SPEAKER_01]: Seat Thomas Hollis in it, just such a great show.
- 39:21[SPEAKER_01]: I can't even, I cannot put into words how great this show is.
- 39:27[SPEAKER_01]: It's twisted.
- 39:30[SPEAKER_01]: It's a cop drama.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_01]: So if you want to go that route, let's talk about cop dramas, but it's done from the from the side of forensic science.
- 39:38[SPEAKER_01]: So I feel like it's got CSI elements in it.
- 39:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's got like regular cop elements in it, but honestly, I just it's such a great show because the twist to it and here's the spoiler alert and I'm sorry I have to do this, but Dexter is a serial killer.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_01]: and he works for the Miami Metro Homicide Division as a CSI.
- 40:02[SPEAKER_01]: So he's a bloodspad or analyst.
- 40:04[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just it's such an interesting twist and whatnot and and just you spend every single episode going, is this the episode he gets caught?
- 40:16[SPEAKER_01]: Is this the episode he gets caught?
- 40:18[SPEAKER_01]: and it's just it's it's so much fun such a wild ride and there's there's two actually I think now there's three spin-offs actually uh Dexter Resurrection which takes place mostly in New York that features a son um new blood which is the the show that featured mostly his son and also well his son finding Dexter let's put it that way and then um man I can't remember uh Dexter
- 40:44[SPEAKER_01]: first born or something like that.
- 40:46[SPEAKER_01]: I can't remember that one.
- 40:47[SPEAKER_01]: Sadly, that one's not continuing.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_01]: And that one probably, in my personal opinion, probably should have been the one that continued the most, just because it was really cool to see how Dexter evolved or became what he became, right?
- 41:02[SPEAKER_01]: And
- 41:05[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was pretty good, but unfortunately other people did not agree with me, so it is called original sin, that's what it's called.
- 41:14[SPEAKER_01]: So also amazing.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_01]: Dexeran from 2006 to 2013, it's available in a couple of different areas.
- 41:24[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if it's still on Netflix, that's where I watch it.
- 41:26[SPEAKER_01]: I watch it when it was on Netflix.
- 41:28[SPEAKER_01]: I know for sure it's on, I think Paramount TV
- 41:35[SPEAKER_01]: But it's such a good show and you're kind of doing yourself a disservice if you don't watch it.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_01]: But Dexter original sin is kind of like the prequel to it shows you how Dexter grew up and like his first days at Miami Metro.
- 41:48[SPEAKER_01]: It was kind of it was just a cool way of seeing things and honestly probably
- 41:53[SPEAKER_01]: the coolest part of that show to me was the fact that the cast that they the the actors they cast it looked so much like the actors from the deck from Dexter that it was just it was amazing but anyway I digress all right next one the pit
- 42:09[SPEAKER_01]: This is more of a newer show.
- 42:10[SPEAKER_01]: This is available on HBO Max.
- 42:13[SPEAKER_01]: If you even remotely know about this and you know exactly what I'm talking about, it's got nothing but rave reviews.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_01]: It takes place basically in emergency room in Pittsburgh, which is supposed to be notorious for having the longest wait times, and the most patients, and the craziest stuff happening.
- 42:33[SPEAKER_01]: And this show is absolutely amazing from top to bottom.
- 42:36[SPEAKER_01]: Great directing, great actors and actresses, and of course, a technical staff that just is top-notch.
- 42:43[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the detail that they go into, which by the way, if you're grossed out by the human anatomy and any way shape or form or blood or whatever, the pit is not for you.
- 42:54[SPEAKER_01]: It is graphic because it's literally showing like what can have, what happens in ERs.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_01]: And being a former paramedic myself, it's such a cool thing to watch.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_01]: Two seasons of that, that's available on HBO Max, and if you haven't seen that, then you need to get on the ball with that.
- 43:12[SPEAKER_01]: All right, a little bit of a switch.
- 43:14[SPEAKER_01]: I know this is still on Netflix, but I don't know how much longer, breaking bad, such an awesome show.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think there's anything that anybody can say that's bad about that show.
- 43:22[SPEAKER_01]: Such a great cast, and such a wild, weird story, and amazing awesome.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_01]: I got hooked on it.
- 43:30[SPEAKER_01]: I've actually watched it like two or three times.
- 43:32[SPEAKER_01]: I've watched it all the way through like two or three times.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's how good it is.
- 43:35[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I have to give a nod to, uh, to my comic book nerds and, uh, my fellow Marvelans, uh, or Marvel fans, I guess I should say Marvelans, that's kind of interesting.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_01]: I like that.
- 43:46[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, um, by far, I think the best Marvel TV series that's out there is Daredevil, the one that was on the Netflix series, although Daredevil born again is a close second as far as, uh, the overall quality of TV series.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_01]: So, that's another one to check out too, especially if you're into comic books and stuff, or Marvel fan, or whatever, Daredevil's a little graphic, it's a little violent, kind of rough, but you know what, that's the way the character is in the books, and it's such a great, such a great telling.
- 44:15[SPEAKER_01]: All right, last but not least, since you brought it up, and I was like, oh my god, how did I not put this on my list?
- 44:22[SPEAKER_01]: Mad men.
- 44:24[SPEAKER_01]: such a great TV series.
- 44:26[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I wish I would have watched it when it was like live.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_01]: Um, I binge watched it because it was that good.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_01]: I did the same thing you did with the chosen first episode and then I think I stayed up till like four o'clock in the morning or whatever.
- 44:38[SPEAKER_01]: Um, did you take the sign of the cross?
- 44:40[SPEAKER_01]: No, it's, it's, it's madmen.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's not, it has nothing to do with religion.
- 44:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's a matter of fact.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's,
- 44:46[SPEAKER_01]: It's what the world was like in the what I think 70s 60s and 70s working for an advertising firm of course John Hammond's in it's a such a great cast in it You know, I mean there's so many fabulous amazing actors and actresses in that show as well too.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's so I'm going to start watching I think I saw one episode back when it was on it.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's absolutely amazing great storylines John Hammond's awesome You weren't supposed to interrupt me, but anyway, but the
- 45:16[SPEAKER_00]: it's a it's a it's an error piece and and they captured oh my god ever made beautifully the sofa's the coffee tables the sceney coming come into the door getting the martini handed to you they cut should all of that yeah and and the the cast the cast in a phenomenal job but the tech crew behind that they didn't even more for oh yeah needs to get an Emmy I found you know that's a funny thing I would be it's important
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's the funny thing.
- 45:41[SPEAKER_01]: I watch a lot of continuity things because there's some of the training that I have and I think I only found like two or three continuity errors in the entire series of that one.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_01]: There were a few not a lot but there were a few so anyway, all right Madman and then I have to give on or mention this one only because this is the first TV show I think
- 46:02[SPEAKER_01]: to show a man's naked butt on national tv and that's end my pd blue.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: I know you don't like it, but you know what?
- 46:09[SPEAKER_01]: I don't care.
- 46:09[SPEAKER_01]: This is my look at it and no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no
- 46:17[SPEAKER_00]: Well, the point of it was it was hilarious because it's never been on national TV before But when he still did it that wasn't a national TV though.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was a national.
- 46:31[SPEAKER_01]: A little BBC's not national TV and BBC that's English TV and the money python also British TV.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm talking about in America now.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_01]: I said national
- 46:43[SPEAKER_01]: Please PBS.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_00]: That's all the monthy Python's flying circuit and and you are so irrelevant to the situation It's not even funny because PBS PBS is a niche is a niche audience It wasn't the first but it was the worst and whatever you're trying to your own dumb stupid opinions We've already got what that so much for you not talking over me go roll so much for you not talking over me anyway I knew it wasn't gonna last long by the way They would have never done that in history blues too classy
- 47:11[SPEAKER_00]: whatever.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_01]: Why was anyway a pity blue good because of the relationship between Dennis and the other actor who's name I can't remember at the top of my head.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: Jimmy Smith's was it.
- 47:23[SPEAKER_01]: Jimmy Smith's.
- 47:24[SPEAKER_01]: Jimmy Smith's Jimmy Smith's is in Dexter as a matter of fact and the season I think it's season two or three.
- 47:31[SPEAKER_01]: That season is amazing.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_01]: Just because of Jimmy Smith's.
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: Did he work with you?
- 47:35[SPEAKER_01]: No, I thought I was the
- 47:38[SPEAKER_00]: The red-haired guy was, but Jimmy Smith came on, you know, I don't think he was originally in it.
- 47:42[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know who you're talking about, but Jimmy Smith's, in my opinion, is a great actor.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_01]: He's a great actor.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's a great actor.
- 47:51[SPEAKER_00]: He did a movie called my family, me familiar, that was produced and directed by James Olmels, James Edward Olmels, and the fact that he didn't get nominated for an Oscar is a blight on the academy, because
- 48:06[SPEAKER_00]: I was a fan of Jimmy Smith from NYPD, but I did like him.
- 48:11[SPEAKER_00]: The role he plays and the change in emotions that he goes through in that movie deserved maybe not a win, but certainly a nomination that year and it's a shame that the academy didn't see that, although I'm guessing most of them didn't even see the movie.
- 48:32[SPEAKER_00]: because it was all about a Latino family, so you know how that is.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, so Dennis France, uh, I think the guy that I'm thinking, you know, it's not Gordon clap.
- 48:44[SPEAKER_01]: That's right.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 48:46[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't have read here.
- 48:47[SPEAKER_01]: What is his name?
- 48:48[SPEAKER_01]: That's going to bug me now.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_01]: But anyway, he went on to like, uh, CSI knew Miami, I think is what he was next, uh, show that he was on or whatever, um, yeah.
- 49:00[SPEAKER_00]: Russo's his last name.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, that's exactly who I'm thinking of, but he made, maybe he wasn't in this.
- 49:05[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_01]: David Caruso.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's it.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 49:08[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_01]: He was in it.
- 49:09[SPEAKER_00]: He was in it.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_00]: He was in it.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_00]: He was in it.
- 49:11[SPEAKER_00]: He had the redhead guys younger than back.
- 49:13[SPEAKER_00]: He played John Kelly.
- 49:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but he wasn't.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_01]: He wasn't in it for a very long time though, but anyway, just a great chemistry between the cast members and the entire family was in it.
- 49:26[SPEAKER_01]: Kim, I mean, there's a lot of great people, Jimmy Smith, Kim, Kim Delaney was in it, Nicholas Tutoros in it, and then this is a Chicago guy, he's part of the Chicago guy.
- 49:34[SPEAKER_01]: Mark Paul Gossler was in it, Ricky Schroeder was in it at the end.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: I'd say Morales.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 49:40[SPEAKER_01]: There's a lot of great cast members in the show, and I don't, I don't think you ever gave it an actual chance because you couldn't get past the shaky camera, which, which, whatever, I mean,
- 49:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know what?
- 49:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not saying it was bad.
- 49:54[SPEAKER_00]: I'm saying two things.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_00]: I didn't like the shaky cambit and I had already gone through Hill Street Blues and again, I don't think anything at all.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_01]: See, and I feel like a kid growing up in the era where I will give you kudos.
- 50:05[SPEAKER_01]: Hill Street Blues is amazing.
- 50:07[SPEAKER_01]: If you haven't seen it, go see it.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_01]: But I feel like NYPD Blue built on what Hill Street Blues had already established and took it to a whole other level for a new
- 50:19[SPEAKER_01]: Quite honestly, I think what a found and my hill street blues kind of boring.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_00]: I think it took it to a more crass.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_00]: I think we were at a point where where crass was the measure of whether something was good or not.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_00]: American pie and all those things.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_00]: The more crass you could be, the more the younger generation bought it.
- 50:38[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that's what it was with the shaky cam and showing someone's butt and all that other stuff.
- 50:43[SPEAKER_00]: Where hill street blues was, they were trying to be more
- 50:48[SPEAKER_00]: I talked to some a cop friends of mine and they always said two things.
- 50:54[SPEAKER_00]: Hill Street Blues, most realistic cop drama, Barney Miller, most realistic cop squad.
- 51:04[SPEAKER_00]: Even though it's their comedy, a lot of the stuff that happened in that room with Barney Miller, friends of mine are a police say that's a lot of what it's like.
- 51:14[SPEAKER_01]: And here's why I believe that the biggest coup de grau of why N.Y.P.D.
- 51:22[SPEAKER_01]: Blue capitalized and moved over Hilary Blue.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_01]: So Hilary Blue is more about your beat cop.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_01]: right as your everyday cop that kind of stuff there wasn't a lot of detective work and that kind of stuff in it it wasn't but it wasn't the main part of the shows but those two guys that were two beat cops that were doing their thing and they ended up like solving a lot of crimes that
- 51:44[SPEAKER_01]: Technically, they should have, anyway, the point that I'm making here is Steven Batchko was one of the co-creators on that show.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_01]: He also is a co-creator of NYPD Blue.
- 51:52[SPEAKER_01]: So he took experience from Hilary Blues and then expanded on it and created NYPD Blue.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_01]: And that's the reason why I'm saying what I'm saying about it.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_01]: By the way, if you want to stream Hilary Blues, it looks like you can stream all seven seasons directly on Hulu if you have an active subscription.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_01]: Also, you can purchase it on Amazon Prime as well.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_00]: So just to your point, just to close this out, Bruce Welds, who was in the shore of White Spruce White's, played an undercover detective.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_00]: And that was a lot of the episodes are based around what he was doing.
- 52:27[SPEAKER_00]: And then Michael Warren, who people know, and Daniel J. Travante were the two you're talking about.
- 52:33[SPEAKER_00]: But Bruce was always a detective finding undercover stuff.
- 52:43[SPEAKER_00]: rough.
- 52:44[SPEAKER_01]: I remember blue grooves, but the majority of that show was more about those beat cops than it was anything else.
- 52:49[SPEAKER_01]: I remember more episodes about the two of them sitting in the car talk in their cop car talking about things than most of the other stuff.
- 52:55[SPEAKER_01]: NYPD Blue was strictly for the most part detective work and it focused on the detective side of things.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not saying that, I'm not saying this, Telstra-Bus didn't.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_01]: I'm saying Hilstra-Bus probably capitalized on all of it.
- 53:09[SPEAKER_01]: NYPD-Bus was more detective work than it was, necessarily, and probably more undercover stuff than what they featured in Hilstra-Bus.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_00]: I think Hilstra had a little bit of that.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think the other thing in Hilstra that I like was that they touched on important social issues.
- 53:26[SPEAKER_00]: Barney Miller did too.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_00]: There was an episode in Hilstra-Bus
- 53:32[SPEAKER_00]: one of the Spanish cops was being awarded something and his as much as you wanted the award he was being given the award not based on the actual his actual heritage but just like everyone in the squad thought he was Mexican and he's like you don't even know that I think he was Colombian.
- 53:58[SPEAKER_00]: and it was really emotional and very true to what was going on in society at that time, which is when everybody started getting branded as a spanic of your Latino, which made it really easy to not try to figure out what people are actually, and that episode was so poignant and so realistic and emotional.
- 54:20[SPEAKER_00]: That's one of the episodes that really sticks out in my mind of that show.
- 54:24[SPEAKER_00]: And then that should NYPD Blue did that.
- 54:28[SPEAKER_00]: I think they just were, you know, a lot of crass, blood and guts kind of, typical cop show, just me, that's just me.
- 54:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, well, you're entitled to your undone stupid opinion.
- 54:40[SPEAKER_01]: We've already, we've already got to that pride.
- 54:43[SPEAKER_01]: It is wrong, so that's fine.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that you could, the style of the two TV shows are completely different and trying to say that one is better than the other.
- 54:54[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think that that's the right way to go about that.
- 54:58[SPEAKER_01]: In Deering Qualities, Hilary Blues was co-created by the same guy that co-created in my P.D.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_01]: Blua, and I feel like, and my P.D.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_01]: Blua was more focused, whereas Hilary Blues was more ensemble, and this is probably what a police department is like, whereas NYPD Blua was like, nope, this is what it's like to be detective, and that was kind of the switch, the shift, that wasn't there in other previous cop shows.
- 55:22[SPEAKER_00]: You're entitled to whatever you want to do there, but that's going to wrap up the show because those are the Our favorite five TV shows and I mean this more than that five time to pick five It's your it's the one that like I would watch it in my head.
- 55:36[SPEAKER_01]: It's it's about the ones that you would watch over and over again The ones that you repeated that's what this is all about the same thing like with the movies and Those and I would watch all of these TV shows.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_01]: I would watch all of those TV all of these TV shows over and over again If there was someone there was like hey, I like if you
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: as much as it pains me to say this if you told me hey I would love to binge watch madman with you I would binge watch it with you.
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: Why?
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: Because I want to see your reaction to the shit that I already know that's the part that's interesting.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_00]: Anyway, you know this psychiatrist who say they actually say this is study that if you watch something familiar like a movie you seen or TV series you've seen it's really good for your brain because of the familiar is that going no concert?
- 56:19[SPEAKER_00]: You know, that you can go to a concert to see a band that's if they play all original music that you don't know, you're not going to be as in tune with that evening.
- 56:27[SPEAKER_00]: As you would, if you went to see a band that was playing songs that you're familiar with, same kind of thing.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 56:35[SPEAKER_00]: Well, that's going to do it for the show folks next week.
- 56:37[SPEAKER_01]: We'll talk about the movies and or TV shows that are coming out.
- 56:41[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to review out of sales.
- 56:42[SPEAKER_01]: I was going to get there.
- 56:43[SPEAKER_01]: But of course, you had to talk over me again.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_01]: And we'll talk about the silence.
- 56:49[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 56:50[SPEAKER_01]: We know your limitations.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_01]: I'm glad you know them too.
- 56:53[SPEAKER_01]: And then last but not least, we'll talk about our favorite comedy TV shows of all time, which we already know that you're going to mention at least three of them that you mentioned in this episode.
- 57:00[SPEAKER_00]: I have no one.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_00]: I have no one.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, let's find.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see.
- 57:03[SPEAKER_00]: Because there's I have a lot.
- 57:04[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see.
- 57:05[SPEAKER_01]: But that's going to do for the show again.
- 57:07[SPEAKER_01]: Thanks folks for listening and of course all your comments.
- 57:10[SPEAKER_01]: Please keep them, put them on the, put them up on the episode so that we can share with things that I'm sure.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe we'll get Tino in here.
- 57:16[SPEAKER_01]: We'll see you in the next video.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see you'll be 13.
- 57:21[SPEAKER_00]: In December, he'll be 13, so he can start doing PG-13 movies.
- 57:25[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 57:26[SPEAKER_00]: Who'd be now he'd like to come in here?
- 57:27[SPEAKER_00]: We'll try to get him in here sometime.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll do that.
- 57:29[SPEAKER_01]: But until next episode, make sure you save us some popcorn.
