- 0:00Hello there , market watchers !
- 0:02I am Sunny Sideup , and welcome to another episode of Spy Trader .
- 0:06It is currently 2:30 pm on Thursday , September 10th , 2026 , here on the Pacific coast , and boy , do we have a lively market to discuss today .
- 0:18If you have been looking at your screens , you might have noticed a bit of a gloomy cloud over Wall Street .
- 0:24We are seeing what many are calling a perfect storm of high energy costs , some global jitters , and a whole lot of guessing about what the Federal Reserve is going to do next .
- 0:35Let us start with the big picture .
- 0:37The S&P 500 , or the SPY as we like to call it , has retreated about pointsix percent today .
- 0:44That is actually the fourth day in a row of losses , and we are now testing a onemonth low near the 7,600 level .
- 0:52The techheavy Nasdaq , represented by the QQQ , had an even tougher time , dropping as much as onepointthree percent because of rising Treasury yields .
- 1:02Even the Dow Jones , the DIA , was not spared , falling around 300 points to sit near the 52,125 mark .
- 1:12So , why is this happening ?
- 1:14Well , it really comes down to the pump and the bank .
- 1:18Brent crude oil has surged past 102 dollars per barrel because of tensions in the Middle East , specifically near the Strait of Hormuz and Bab elMandeb .
- 1:27This made the Energy Select Sector SPDR , or XLE , one of the only bright spots today , advancing over one percent .
- 1:36On the flip side , higher oil prices act like a tax on the rest of us , increasing costs for everyone .
- 1:44We saw memory chip stocks like Micron , ticker symbol MU , fall up to three percent because investors worry that high interest rates will stop people from buying new hardware .
- 1:55Speaking of interest rates , the Inflation Ghost is back .
- 1:59Today’s Producer Price Index showed a fivepointfour percent annual increase .
- 2:04All eyes are now on tomorrow’s Consumer Price Index report .
- 2:09If that comes in hot , Fed Governor Christopher Waller has signaled we might see a 25basispoint rate hike when they meet on September 15th .
- 2:18This uncertainty is pushing people toward safety , which is why Gold , or GLD , is now trading at roughly 4,400 dollars an ounce .
- 2:29Looking at individual companies , Nvidia , NVDA , is under pressure today .
- 2:35The Department of Justice is intensifying its probe into their 17billiondollar deal to buy an AI startup called Groq .
- 2:43Apple , AAPL , also slipped about three percent this week .
- 2:48Even though they just showed off the new foldable iPhone Duo , investors are worried that the 1,999 dollar price tag might be too much for consumers in a slowing economy .
- 3:00It was not all bad news , though !
- 3:03Meta Platforms , META , was a rare winner , surging 13 percent after launching their new AI personal agent called Muse .
- 3:11However , Cooper Companies , COO , had a very rough day , plummeting 15 percent after missing their revenue goals and lowering their outlook .
- 3:20So , what is the game plan for a Spy Trader ?
- 3:23Here are a few recommendations to consider .
- 3:25First , it might be a good time to look at Energy and Commodities .
- 3:30Instruments like the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund , XLE , or Gold through GLD , can provide a natural hedge while oil prices are high and geopolitical risks remain .
- 3:42Second , be very cautious with tech .
- 3:45Before you add to big positions in Apple or Microsoft , you might want to wait for that CPI data tomorrow to see how the QQQ or Technology Select Sector SPDR , XLK , might react to the news .
- 4:00Third , when it comes to bonds , try to avoid catching a falling knife with the iShares 20plus Year Treasury Bond ETF , also known as TLT .
- 4:10Until we know what the Fed says on September 16th , staying in shortterm cash equivalents is a better way to preserve your capital .
- 4:18Finally , consider diversifying geographically .
- 4:23The Vanguard FTSE Developed Markets ETF , or VEA , gives you exposure to markets in Europe and the Pacific that might be less sensitive to the specific inflationary pressures and trade friction currently hitting the U.S.
- 4:36consumer .
- 4:37That is all for this afternoon's update .
- 4:40Stay calm , stay informed , and I will see you back here in a few hours .
- 4:45I am Sunny Sideup , signing off for Spy Trader !
