- 0:00SPEAKER_01: So what uh our set is growing here 100%, maybe.
- 0:04SPEAKER_01: What do we have here?
- 0:06SPEAKER_01: The camera.
- 0:06SPEAKER_02: So I surround myself with things that offer me hope.
- 0:11SPEAKER_02: Aside from the true hope that I have.
- 0:13SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 0:14SPEAKER_02: Like the idea of going fly fishing.
- 0:16SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 0:17SPEAKER_02: So we got all my stuff.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 0:18SPEAKER_02: Like in case a river pops up, I can get to it right now.
- 0:21SPEAKER_02: In case something happens, right?
- 0:23SPEAKER_02: So we've got our find from Colorado.
- 0:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: Ancient.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: I don't think we've really told that story, which we may not today.
- 0:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah, just at another time we'll tell it.
- 0:31SPEAKER_02: That is a deep dive.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: It is if it has anything to do with it.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: But that is a that thing is worth millions and millions of um probably not dollars.
- 0:41SPEAKER_02: Of thoughts.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: Thoughts.
- 0:42SPEAKER_02: And this is a this is a Oreel I've got that's caught a lot of fish and just here as a warm blanket.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 0:48SPEAKER_01: And I'm excited because I know when you were gone, we uh we uh have a new edition, maybe that's coming to the set.
- 0:56SPEAKER_01: Coming.
- 0:57SPEAKER_01: I keep forgetting to bring it.
- 0:58SPEAKER_01: And that's gonna be great.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: You guys are really in for a treat on that one.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 1:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:03SPEAKER_01: We definitely have an eclectic uh mix of things going here.
- 1:07SPEAKER_01: But it kind of fits our style, I guess.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: It does.
- 1:10SPEAKER_01: It is a it is a hodgepodge of of various asundries.
- 1:15SPEAKER_01: Do you do you remember the first when we first started these and none of this was here?
- 1:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we're gonna do that.
- 1:21SPEAKER_01: You know, we just had a wall and like a divider.
- 1:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah, then I think I went on vacation and came back and you you did things.
- 1:27SPEAKER_01: I did.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: I painted, added some shelves.
- 1:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:30SPEAKER_01: You needed to give it some dimension, you know.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: You like there's a there's like a very well-thought out balance on that on your side.
- 1:35SPEAKER_01: I would just like to say I've made all that myself, the little uh cases with the rocks and stuff.
- 1:42SPEAKER_01: I didn't no no no, I didn't make that.
- 1:43SPEAKER_02: That's another fine, deep find from Colorado, yeah.
- 1:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, this is pretty much we're gonna turn into a a uh I don't want to say a junkyard, but like a flea market in here.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: People will kind of come and buy and sell it.
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Did you just call my life a flea market?
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: No, not at all.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Some of our decor have been identified.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: Flea market pastor.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 2:06SPEAKER_01: That sounds like a show.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: Maybe it's like uh, you know how the library things in the neighborhood, take a book, leave a book.
- 2:12SPEAKER_01: Maybe we just some things will be off limits.
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, these things are off limits.
- 2:16SPEAKER_01: But maybe, you know, bring a trinket, take a trinket.
- 2:19SPEAKER_02: Take a trinket.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: These are not trinkets.
- 2:21SPEAKER_02: You're just you're disrespecting me every step.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
- 2:24SPEAKER_02: These are not trinkets, these are very important pieces of life.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: If I can't be in the river, I have to have things around me that feel like I can get into a river.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: In case there's ever fish in the back 40, you're ready.
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: There is a there is a uh there are designs being put into place for the build-out of the parking lot that have the addition of a deep water retention pond in the far end of the back 40.
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: Now that's not a river, but if there's anybody that can stock it, we stock it.
- 2:58SPEAKER_02: Oh man, are you kidding me?
- 2:59SPEAKER_02: I'll have to I'll that'll be the first thing I try to do, um, allegedly.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: I don't know if we're allowed to do that, but you know, if an off spree drops one in there and it's and and then drops a second one in there, I'm just saying that's an act of God.
- 3:10SPEAKER_01: That's an act of God.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: That's not our but that's that's to come.
- 3:15SPEAKER_02: Those are exciting things to come.
- 3:17SPEAKER_01: Stay tuned for that.
- 3:18SPEAKER_01: Should we talk scripture today?
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Let's do it, man.
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: So we're kicking off a new series.
- 3:22SPEAKER_01: Yes, we are.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: This is a special one, too, because this is our um unofficial, official fall launch series.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 3:31SPEAKER_01: Welcome home.
- 3:32SPEAKER_01: And this is a repeating series from last year, but it's different.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a it's a placeholder.
- 3:38SPEAKER_02: So everybody got tired of me calling it a launch.
- 3:41SPEAKER_02: So they've renamed it and branded it very well, I might add, Welcome Home.
- 3:44SPEAKER_02: So it's a the series is called the Welcome Home series.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 3:48SPEAKER_02: And it serves the purpose of we will have a full packed house on Sunday.
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: And um part of part of the challenge of coming to a larger church is figuring out what that church is all about.
- 3:59SPEAKER_02: So we in a rotation basis, last year we taught through the four things that um we ask people to consider if you're gonna be a part of this church, which is to gather, group, give, serve all the markers of the early church.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: So it's not, hey, at community life, you're gonna be here.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: These are these are the things.
- 4:16SPEAKER_02: No, this is what we do, but really where it shows up in scripture.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 4:19SPEAKER_02: This year we're gonna do the, we're gonna list the four things that we hold as core values for community life church.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: Um, at community life, we value people, we value connection, we value practical faith, and we value transformation.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: Now, it's one thing to say that, it's another thing to say that's what we value, but why do we value those things?
- 4:41SPEAKER_02: We value those things because God values those things.
- 4:43SPEAKER_02: So the scripture that we're gonna look at is not, hey, let me tell you about us, and then I'm gonna show you a few verses in scripture.
- 4:49SPEAKER_02: No, no, no.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: We value people because God values people, and let me show you why, how, where it shows up that God values people.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because you can get that flipped for sure.
- 4:59SPEAKER_01: And lots of people do.
- 5:00SPEAKER_02: 100%.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: And and also it it falls to the people that are listening and the people that show up.
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: Do we truly value that?
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: We've all been to uh, you know, corporate places that they say, here's our list of values, and you look at number one, you're like, mm-mm, they don't value that.
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: So if that's if if we say we value people and we don't value people, you should run.
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: You should run.
- 5:22SPEAKER_02: There you have it.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: That's the setup for Welcome Home.
- 5:25SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be awesome.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: Blessing of the backpacks, all the things are going on this Sunday.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, can I can I promote our Welcome Home party in a couple weeks?
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Please do, yeah.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Because that's a big deal.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: It became a a really cool thing last year, was the first one we've done that way.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: But group launch groups are group signups are or are open now for the fall, and serving opportunities are always going on.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: So this was a way to get everybody on site.
- 5:54SPEAKER_01: If you need to want to plug into a group, want to plug into a serving opportunity, want to just meet some people.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: Um, this year it's gonna be even bigger.
- 6:02SPEAKER_01: We got a couple food trucks coming out.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: We got a way, I think, to move most everybody inside because that was the thing last year.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: It was hot outside.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Um, so we still got stuff going on, kids' games, gonna get a t-shirt, gonna get a swag bag.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: All the ministries are giving away uh, you know, little things where you can fill in your swag bag.
- 6:23SPEAKER_01: Um, but really I think the the thing that was the coolest is just seeing the life around the building when everybody's gathered together, all your ministries, all your serve teams.
- 6:32SPEAKER_01: There's something really special that you cannot quite come up with without being together.
- 6:39SPEAKER_02: It was an interesting way for people to wrap their minds around what's going on.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: So in years gone by, if you wanted to join a group, you would get either the website or you'd get the book and you'd look down, you're like, but you know, if you've joined a group, that's a roll of the dice.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: Sometimes you join a group and you go, Ooh, wrong choice.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: Wrong choice.
- 6:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: And that's and that's but then you're also sometimes you're like, oh, these are my these are my flea market pastors, right?
- 7:03SPEAKER_02: These are my people.
- 7:04SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: Um, so that's very important.
- 7:07SPEAKER_02: What I love about this, the way we do this, is you can lay eyes on the group and you can talk to the person and you can find out if if you're gonna fit there.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:15SPEAKER_02: Um, you can also find places to serve and get all the information.
- 7:19SPEAKER_02: I learn better that way.
- 7:20SPEAKER_02: So for me to be able to navigate and and have those conversations would make sense.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: And it's also just a great time if you're you just want to connect.
- 7:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, for sure.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: Just to come hang out, have a meal, see the life goes.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: What we is that?
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: That's what it's August 19th, Wednesday, August 19th.
- 7:35SPEAKER_01: So not is it next week?
- 7:35SPEAKER_02: It's the two weeks.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: Two weeks from yeah.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: Which is after is that after connection?
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: It is, yeah, because this week coming up is good.
- 7:40SPEAKER_02: I think next week is connection.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: So it really fits as we talk about because it's one of the things we value connection, and so trying to have opportunities for us to be able to get together and God is the great connector.
- 7:50SPEAKER_02: And so there's a there's a design that that we have built inside of us that that we're called to connect.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: For sure.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: And he's the one that's bringing us all together anyway.
- 7:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: You know, think about the commonality we have and and who we love and serve.
- 8:03SPEAKER_01: And God is the one you can look in this building, and there's you know, a few hundred people here, and you see Jesus did that.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: He's the one that connected all of us.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: Really cool.
- 8:11SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 8:12SPEAKER_01: Let me ask you about the values before we jump into the scripture, which will be in Luke 15, the whole chapter.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: Um, how have you seen the values specifically, or maybe as a pastor, as lead pastor, as you think through everything from sermon series to what we're doing to what we're who we're partnering with in the community, how do those values how have they either changed or shaped or connected, you know, you from a from a leadership standpoint, saying, Hey, this is this is what we're about at CLC.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: Uh hope hopefully they're guiding principles.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: Um, but I believe if they're a part of our DNA and um th then then that what happens is when you when you m hit a moment of incongruence, it causes you to stop and go, wait a minute, what happened there?
- 9:00SPEAKER_02: We didn't value people well here or we need to be about transformation, or the way that we teach practical faith.
- 9:07SPEAKER_02: We're not teaching in a way that's allowing people to hold the message and then utilize it in their life.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: So Kat's adding in this fall, um I think they're uh the name is uh discipleship pathways, is that it?
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: Something like that?
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:20SPEAKER_02: Uh because we want there's so many new folks that have never been connected to the faith that don't know anything about the faith.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: So trying to put in ways for them to at least wrap their mind around it.
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: So how has it helped us?
- 9:31SPEAKER_02: It helps literally shape the church.
- 9:34SPEAKER_02: Uh I question every single day when I wake up, are we doing, are we living into the mission?
- 9:39SPEAKER_02: That that's a that's a personal thing that I have, just waking up thinking about how we can do better.
- 9:44SPEAKER_02: And these values, living into them, man, if you get if you get down to a place where you have to say, are we valuing this person well or not?
- 9:54SPEAKER_02: Man, um, that's I I hopefully we're doing that.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: So, so so really it does give us a backstop for some of the decisions we make.
- 10:01SPEAKER_02: And I'll tell you, not always perfect in those things.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: And there are some times where you where you're trying to value, you're trying to value an organization and any, you know, staffing changes, all of those different things, you run into issues where it's just a challenge, right?
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: And you're trying to honor a person well while also doing the things you got to do at the church.
- 10:21SPEAKER_02: And so sometimes those things aren't always perceived in the same way, but man, we if we hold it as a value, then it forces the conversation.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:30SPEAKER_01: Do you see a translation of, hey, I'm not an organization, I'm not trying to come up with a mission and value.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: I'm a person, I'm a follower of Jesus.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: Do these still do these things translate, do you think, to the life of a believer?
- 10:45SPEAKER_01: They better.
- 10:46SPEAKER_02: They better.
- 10:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: Um, they're not a they're not a corporate saying.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: I mean, they they they better not be.
- 10:52SPEAKER_02: Uh, it would be very easy to be cold and calculated and say, here's our things, and it's a great sales pitch.
- 10:57SPEAKER_02: Once again, you've got to determine if that's what we believe.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: Now, here, here's, man, this is it's it's too I don't want to go so far down this road, but like the history of where where this came from, like if you just look at our church, like I hope someday there's a book that's written about it, but I can written it's being written.
- 11:12SPEAKER_02: I can remember sitting upstairs in the youth room before it was the youth room maybe, with uh a core group of staff, and I only call them the core because they've been here for 25 years, and we're we're we're trying to identify the values of the church.
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: So we backed into it by saying, What what how what does it look like we value?
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: So we wrote a bunch of stuff down on the board, and then so what does it really actually matter or these things mean this thing?
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: And we started to move things around, and then as it started to take shape, it made sense.
- 11:43SPEAKER_02: So if you think of people, connection, practical faith, transformation, it's really a process.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: It is.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: I mean, so as we looked at all the things that we value, we I can say that I value time with people.
- 12:01SPEAKER_02: But you know, that's that that's a sometimes a personal preference, right?
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: I also value time in the water.
- 12:08SPEAKER_02: Um time with fish.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: Right, but but these things are a are a are a process.
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: God values people, John 3.16, for God so loved the world.
- 12:16SPEAKER_02: That's not people that love God.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: That's God values all people.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: So community life, there's no delineation.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: I view the Sunday morning service as the mission field.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: So that means you're gonna be sitting beside, hopefully, you're gonna be sitting beside people that you don't know if they're believers.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: And that's designed that way.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: We want you to bring people that are believers.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: I hope that whoever preaches on a Sunday morning will offer an invitation of grace, an invitation to believe.
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: So I believe that God values people, so we're gonna value people.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: I believe that God values um connection because God is the connector.
- 12:49SPEAKER_02: The story of our faith is that we broke the connection and he's been trying to re-establish it ever since.
- 12:54SPEAKER_02: So if we value people, how do we reach them?
- 12:56SPEAKER_02: We connect to them.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: So there's the connection.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: Um, practical faith is that this is not lost on us.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: There are lessons, there are teachings, there's a discipleship for us to learn and grow and adhere to that we can put in action to our life, which then leads us to transformation.
- 13:12SPEAKER_02: Um, and transformation is us um then working through this process to allow God to shape and mold us so that we go back into understanding the value of people, connecting with them, teaching them a practical faith, and allowing transformation to happen in their life.
- 13:27SPEAKER_02: So, so those values are what we hold, but they're also the process of our church and really of our faith.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: That's good.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: That's a lot.
- 13:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: But it's a driving central force of why we do what we do or even what we do.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:39SPEAKER_01: So it's important.
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: And I think every organization has values, stated values, and then uns not stated values.
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: I'd love to be in a conversation with some of those things because I I don't I don't know that I can see them.
- 13:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: As a I my eyes are closed as a pastor.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: I don't get to see with fresh eyes things.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: I would love for people to be honest enough and feel brave enough.
- 13:56SPEAKER_02: And that's that's not a challenge.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: It is a challenge.
- 13:58SPEAKER_02: To come sit down with me and say, Scott, here's some of the things that you value that you really need to consider.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: You know, speed of the organization.
- 14:05SPEAKER_02: Don't get out over your skis.
- 14:06SPEAKER_02: Also, don't don't get so slow that you're not moving.
- 14:09SPEAKER_02: And we got 200 people that are going to show up on our doorstep.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: We better be ready for them.
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: So like there's there's anyways.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: That's good.
- 14:15SPEAKER_01: Well, let's jump into it.
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: Um, as I mentioned, Luke 15.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: So these are the stories of the lost things.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: Lost things.
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: But I want to spend a little time.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: I think we could probably spend a lot of time in verses one and two.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: Because I will.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: But that really sets up this entire chapter and the context of what it is he's about to say.
- 14:39SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: So for me, um when uh as a as a practical nature of reading scripture, I hope you you learn to put yourself in different seats.
- 14:51SPEAKER_02: So at the beginning of this chapter, and Luke wouldn't have called it a different chapter, because if you back up into 14, some of that also relates to 15, but we're gonna start at 15.
- 14:58SPEAKER_02: One chapter is enough for us to tackle on Sunday, it's plenty.
- 15:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 15:02SPEAKER_02: Um, but Luke gives us a setting.
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: Sitting in front of Jesus, or Jesus would have probably been sitting, they would have been sitting as well, are um in verses one and two.
- 15:11SPEAKER_02: He is looking at a crowd of tax collectors and sinners and Pharisees and scribes, and Luke tells you in two verses that there's a rift right down the middle that the that the tax collectors and sinners are actually there listening to Jesus.
- 15:24SPEAKER_02: They want to hear, they want to know more.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: The the Pharisees and the scribes are angry.
- 15:31SPEAKER_02: They're they're not just angry, they're well, they're angry, they're grumbling, they're complaining that Jesus would even entertain these guys.
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: So then you get the beginning of verse three.
- 15:40SPEAKER_02: So he told them this parable.
- 15:43SPEAKER_02: So he told them is they're in front of them, they're listening, they're grumbling, so he told them the parable.
- 15:51SPEAKER_02: So you can't leave verses one and two without saying to yourself, the next things that I'm gonna hear are directly related to what's going on in front of them.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 16:00SPEAKER_02: So you want to have fun in this, and I'm gonna attempt to do this on Sunday.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: Not done it before.
- 16:06SPEAKER_02: I wasn't gonna tell anybody, but I can't not.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna divide this away.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: I know, but I'm gonna give it away.
- 16:12SPEAKER_02: And and I may not, because it may be it may be more of a detractor than not.
- 16:16SPEAKER_02: So I may just talk about it, but I'm thinking about dividing the crowd up.
- 16:19SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 16:20SPEAKER_02: Tax collectors.
- 16:21SPEAKER_02: You get a card when you're on your way in, on your way in.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: You're a tax collector and a sinner.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: You, though, however, are a scribe or a Pharisee.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: Because if you put yourself in a seat, you can better hear what Jesus is saying.
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: Can I ask a question?
- 16:36SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: We think of sinners now differently, I think, than they would have held the sinner, because even when you put them in categories, tax collector and notorious sinners.
- 16:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's a rating.
- 16:54SPEAKER_01: Because we on nowadays notorious.
- 16:57SPEAKER_02: The tax collector was the notorious one.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: But nowadays we're like, oh, everyone's a sinner.
- 17:03SPEAKER_01: It's this idea of like, yeah, we all fall in the paradigm.
- 17:06SPEAKER_01: And we can relate to that.
- 17:08SPEAKER_01: Even people outside of faith are kind of like, yeah, you know, I'm not perfect, or whatever.
- 17:13SPEAKER_01: So that's a more common way to think.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: It's in this time, it would have been it's like a class of people.
- 17:20SPEAKER_01: You would have been That's true.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: Tax collectors are the worst of the worst.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 17:24SPEAKER_01: They sold out their nationality, all of it.
- 17:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, to their oppressor, a brutal regime, Rome, and they're actually profiting off the backs of their own people to this brutal regime.
- 17:36SPEAKER_01: Own class of people, the worst of the worst.
- 17:38SPEAKER_01: And sinners.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: Sinners are general sinners.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: But that maybe they're thinking the the prostitutes, the the the poor, the broken, and let's say the lame, the crippled.
- 17:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because they've done something to be like, no, no, but the the they're they're those things wouldn't be in their life if God didn't think that they were separate.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: That was the mentality.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: Hey, you were born with something wrong with you.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: You're a s it's because you're a sinner or your parents were that was the theology of the time.
- 18:03SPEAKER_01: So it's a whole different class of of people versus the way we might think of it today.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 18:09SPEAKER_01: So it's interesting.
- 18:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you do have to wrestle that context out.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: Um, I I still think we have an unwritten us and them.
- 18:17SPEAKER_02: We just do.
- 18:18SPEAKER_02: It's I do.
- 18:20SPEAKER_01: Sliding scale, different for everybody?
- 18:22SPEAKER_01: Who's who's your us, who's your then?
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: My my my choosing my chosen sin is not as bad as your chosen sin, right?
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's just what we always do.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: What did you ask me a question?
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: You say and me.
- 18:30SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, definitely.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: Definitely you, yeah.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: Okay, good.
- 18:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that felt personal, but um, okay, so the first story he tells is the lost sheep.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I and I and so I I think by design, you read I've taught all of these individually on a separate Sunday, and there's a level of understanding that you can have.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: I believe Jesus did this in succession.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: Starts off with the first one about the lost sheep, then he goes into the lost coin, and then in the final one, he takes the two people and he puts them in the actual seat that they're in, and he just gets after them, right?
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: So uh lost sheep.
- 19:09SPEAKER_02: And I'm still struggling with how to hold some of these, and and really the honest truth is on Sunday, because of the way that I because I'm gonna cover all three, I'm gonna lose the time necessary to do a deep dive in each parable, but I don't think that Jesus would have stopped and said, So let me tell you about the importance of sheep.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he was starting with a very, very simple opening parable that we've made way more big, mate, way larger than probably what it was.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: He's just saying, hey, who, if you have a hundred, loses one, doesn't go after that one.
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: Now, here's the here's what I honestly think, because I I I I sat over in our Bible study this morning and I thought there's some people that wouldn't.
- 19:49SPEAKER_01: Um Yeah, because they'd say, Well, I got 99.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: What's it gonna cost me to go get this?
- 19:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I'm gonna go get another one.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: So I think we assume um he's saying, who's not who's gonna go do that?
- 19:59SPEAKER_02: I don't know that everybody's gonna do that, but that's the point.
- 20:02SPEAKER_02: That Jesus is saying the heart of God is not a businessman.
- 20:07SPEAKER_02: And thankfully he's not.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: Because could you imagine if the heart of God was, eh, I got 99.
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: I got others.
- 20:14SPEAKER_02: Forget you.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: Please hear me.
- 20:17SPEAKER_02: Jesus is clearly saying that's not God's heart.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:20SPEAKER_02: God's going to make sure that the hundred are good, going to get the other one.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: He's gonna bring him back, and when he comes back, he's not gonna beat that sheep.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: What's he gonna do?
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: He's gonna throw a party.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: Welcome it back, yeah.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: He's gonna throw a party.
- 20:32SPEAKER_01: Celebration.
- 20:33SPEAKER_01: I have that the rejoice, rejoice, rejoice.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:37SPEAKER_01: Um, maybe we maybe we can end with some of that thought because I think that that is a is a good point to know that that's almost like a spiritual practice or discipline of celebration, too.
- 20:49SPEAKER_01: And it flies in the face of logic.
- 20:51SPEAKER_02: And Jesus uses it in the face of logic in all these things, especially in the third one, but we'll get there.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: So to you, is this more about the lost person or people or the lost things, or the heart of the religious person?
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: He's getting there.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: It's about both.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: I I I well so but you're jumping to the last parable.
- 21:09SPEAKER_02: I think this is about both.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: I think he's speaking of he's he's revealing the heart of God, how God feels about lost things.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: So I think he's re-reshaping the heart.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: He's he's trying to reshape the hearts of people to feel how they should feel about lost things.
- 21:23SPEAKER_02: And that's a message to the lost, and that's a message to the found.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 21:27SPEAKER_02: There are people, um, a statement was made this morning that that I had to revisit.
- 21:32SPEAKER_02: So uh someone said, and and they were just talking.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: So uh it wasn't that they were wrong, they were just talking.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: But they said it's easy to receive grace, it's hard to extend it.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: I I don't know that it's easy to receive grace.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: I I I you look at this son that was away, and we're gonna talk about a second.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: Um, he's struggled, he's he he didn't want to go home.
- 21:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, struggled to go home.
- 21:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 21:53SPEAKER_02: It's hard to receive something that you don't deserve.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: Uh so there are many people that are sitting a Sunday morning, they they don't they They do not feel worthy of salvation.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: None of us are.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: So that's so you have to continue to say that message.
- 22:07SPEAKER_02: But Jesus goes to such great degrees to say, yeah, let me tell you somebody who went as far as you could possibly go, and yet still the Father welcomed them back.
- 22:14SPEAKER_02: So um I don't remember what your question was.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: Uh I don't either, but okay, so we got 99, we got 100.
- 22:23SPEAKER_01: One out of a hundred.
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: We got the searching, we have the rejoicing, we have the sinner who repents.
- 22:30SPEAKER_01: So that's our thread.
- 22:32SPEAKER_01: Now when we go to the lost coin, our proportions change a little bit.
- 22:36SPEAKER_01: Not one out of a hundred, it's one out of ten.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: One out of ten.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: The numbers have changed a little bit.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: Also, he brings it into a more personal, probably more relatable.
- 22:43SPEAKER_02: Not all those folks have a hundred sheet, but they probably do all have a silver coin.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: I I was, as I just kind of was going over this, I thought, why didn't he choose a gold coin?
- 22:52SPEAKER_02: Like we're talking about value.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:54SPEAKER_02: None of them would have had a gold coin.
- 22:55SPEAKER_02: They couldn't have afforded it.
- 22:56SPEAKER_02: But they did have silver coins.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:58SPEAKER_02: And they would not have meant the world to them, but they would have mattered to them.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: What's the the note is the drachma?
- 23:04SPEAKER_01: It's like a one day's wage.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: A full day's wage, right?
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: So you got 10 days of wages.
- 23:08SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's not the end of the world, but it's important.
- 23:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: So you're you're all so now you're looking and you're revealing that God is God is still showing the heart of God, is willing to turn the light on.
- 23:18SPEAKER_02: That's a that's an important phrase.
- 23:20SPEAKER_02: Get in there and sweep and search and do all the things to find that thing that maybe isn't even of that great a value, but it matters to the heart of God.
- 23:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 23:29SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 23:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: And we have another continuation of this rejoice with me because I found my lost coin.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: So is that a practice maybe we don't take seriously enough?
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: Rejoicing?
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: Because I'm thinking I lost.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: There's some people I know I'm like, quit rejoicing.
- 23:50SPEAKER_02: Sorry, I'm kidding.
- 23:51SPEAKER_02: Go ahead.
- 23:51SPEAKER_01: Well, I just if you're taking this story and thinking like I lost something of value, but it's not.
- 23:58SPEAKER_01: I mean, if I lost 50 grand, I might call you and be like, dude, you're never gonna believe this.
- 24:03SPEAKER_01: If I lose a, you know, a hundred bucks, I'm probably not gonna think, hey, I need to I need to celebrate this with some folks.
- 24:12SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so you're not making the stated point, which is god God is telling us more about the his heart.
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: Jesus is telling us about the heart of God more than about the celebration of that coin or how God views that lost thing, right?
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: Doesn't matter if it's of great value or of minimal value, God values the lost thing and wants to see it reconnected.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: Once again, that's the story of faith.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: Jesus is being very clear that there's something lost and God wants it found.
- 24:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: It's good.
- 24:42SPEAKER_01: Rejoicing, and then the greater spiritual truth of understanding there's a great crowd that we have that is celebrating with us.
- 24:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:52SPEAKER_02: Or not.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: That's the point, though, right?
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: So the ones that should be welcoming home and teaching and loving and welcoming are going, I can't believe that.
- 25:01SPEAKER_02: So all of this, it's both sides.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: He's teaching both sides.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: He's teaching those who are lost or sinful or have been shoved away that you are of a great value to God.
- 25:11SPEAKER_02: And then he's also teaching those who are on the inside looking out, being angry, hey, they're of God, God cares about those people, and so should you.
- 25:20SPEAKER_02: And you should be rejoicing, not grumbling.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: So he's doing there's a good balance in all of this, to which then comes to a huge crescendo when you get to the last one.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: So this story we've heard inside of faith, outside of faith, the prodigal son.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: It's a it is a modern vernacular that that extends beyond scripture.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: Much like a David versus Goliath.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: There's songs that have been written about prodigals.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: I mean, just that I don't even care about God, right?
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's just a it's a popular thought.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: So why why has why does that resonate so much through all of culture?
- 25:52SPEAKER_02: Uh my honest answer, because I believe all of all of humanity has been created in the image of God.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: So there is a part of this message.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: Jesus tells this, he's a good storyteller.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: He tells this story so well that when we read it, we instantly think it's real people.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: And it could have been, but more than likely, Jesus shaped this story to be as extreme as you can imagine to try and cover all the bases.
- 26:19SPEAKER_02: But it's so good.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: We think it's real people because we see ourselves in the story.
- 26:25SPEAKER_02: There is something in this story that we can all connect to.
- 26:29SPEAKER_02: Every one of us, whether it's the father, the son that went off, the son that stayed, the servant that doesn't understand it all, uh, you know, or just the dude that's trying to feed the fatted calf that now that calf has been slaughtered.
- 26:43SPEAKER_02: Whatever.
- 26:44SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
- 26:44SPEAKER_02: We can all find a connection in this story.
- 26:46SPEAKER_01: So for the sake of those that that may not know the details of the story, you have a father.
- 26:51SPEAKER_01: He has two sons, one son.
- 26:54SPEAKER_01: By design, two sons.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: Who how many people, what groups of people are sitting in front of him?
- 26:57SPEAKER_02: Two groups of people.
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: Those that are the sinners and tax collectors, and those that are the Pharisees and the scribes.
- 27:02SPEAKER_01: So we got two sons.
- 27:03SPEAKER_01: In the value of proportion, we had one out of a hundred, one out of ten.
- 27:06SPEAKER_01: Now we got one out of two.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: Now we have one out of two.
- 27:08SPEAKER_01: So we got we dwindled down a little bit here in in our numbers.
- 27:13SPEAKER_01: So customary at the time, inheritance usually happens upon death, passes on to the heirs.
- 27:22SPEAKER_01: The son says, Hey, I don't want to wait for that.
- 27:24SPEAKER_02: The younger jerk son, which is uh which is myself, um, comes in and says, Dad, I want my money.
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: Dad's not dead.
- 27:31SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: So in in that culture, I wish you were dead.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: I I want my money.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: He's just saying, I don't, I don't care about you.
- 27:38SPEAKER_01: Just I want what's mine.
- 27:39SPEAKER_01: Give me what's mine.
- 27:40SPEAKER_01: And I want to take it and do what I want with it.
- 27:42SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 27:43SPEAKER_02: I that's right.
- 27:43SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna go do what I want to do.
- 27:45SPEAKER_01: And so an interesting first look, the father could have said, No.
- 27:50SPEAKER_01: No.
- 27:51SPEAKER_01: It's his money.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: Don't think so.
- 27:52SPEAKER_01: It's his inheritance.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: I mean it's his that's right.
- 27:54SPEAKER_01: So he but he he says, okay, that's if that's the decision you want.
- 27:58SPEAKER_01: So what does that tell you about?
- 28:00SPEAKER_01: Does that does that tell you anything about the heart of the father?
- 28:03SPEAKER_01: Even even in that.
- 28:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it needs to.
- 28:05SPEAKER_02: I I hadn't I hadn't really fully unpacked that, but um yeah, I mean you you if you just wanted to carry that over into our faith or not even into our faith.
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: The ability that we have to make decisions and do things that we have just because of the freedom and the life that we've been given.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: Now not everybody has that.
- 28:20SPEAKER_02: Um but it's extreme.
- 28:23SPEAKER_02: We have we are so blessed.
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: Even apart from faith, life, the beauties of life, and I'm not and that's not every situation.
- 28:31SPEAKER_02: I know some people have very horrible situations.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: But for the most part, man, the ability to navigate, to communicate, to think, to process not terrible.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 28:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 28:43SPEAKER_01: So he takes his money, father says, Okay, that's what you want, that's your choice.
- 28:47SPEAKER_01: Go ahead.
- 28:48SPEAKER_01: Takes it, goes far away.
- 28:50SPEAKER_01: Wild living, drunkenness, partying.
- 28:53SPEAKER_01: Destitute living.
- 28:54SPEAKER_01: All the things you can imagine.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: Is that what it says?
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: Destitute desolate.
- 28:57SPEAKER_02: Desolate, where's the word?
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: Uh uh uh desolate living, which which is the code word for not good.
- 29:07SPEAKER_01: He's not uh way into philanthropy and you know, starting up foundations and and helping things.
- 29:15SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 29:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, why this NLT says wild living.
- 29:18SPEAKER_01: Wild living, dissolute living.
- 29:21SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, later, later the older brother clarifies it for us.
- 29:25SPEAKER_02: He does, he tells us exactly what it's as any good older brother would do.
- 29:28SPEAKER_02: That's right, with prostitutes and drunkenness and all that stuff.
- 29:30SPEAKER_01: In case you weren't sure, this is what he spent your money on.
- 29:34SPEAKER_02: But Jesus is not remember, he's teaching.
- 29:37SPEAKER_02: He's not actually telling you a story of a person that did this.
- 29:40SPEAKER_02: He's looking at the people and he's going, and this son went off and did some of the craziest stuff.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: And the people that are there are like, yeah.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: Could, you know, I'm raising my hand.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: Could that's that's me.
- 29:52SPEAKER_02: I did that.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: I did that.
- 29:53SPEAKER_01: At least half the crowd.
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but then it gets worse.
- 29:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: Um, so he runs out of money.
- 29:59SPEAKER_01: Runs out of money.
- 30:00SPEAKER_01: Unsurprisingly, runs out of money.
- 30:02SPEAKER_01: And the world doesn't give him any, and then the world gets worse.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:06SPEAKER_01: Famine across the land.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: He's got no options, no hope.
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: He ends up does get a job, though.
- 30:12SPEAKER_01: Gets a job, convinces a farmer to let him feed the pigs.
- 30:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, which is a great choice for a Jewish guy.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: Intended.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: Jesus intends for that to slap everybody in the face.
- 30:23SPEAKER_02: How's that work?
- 30:24SPEAKER_01: I never really thought about that.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's the worst.
- 30:27SPEAKER_02: Jesus Jesus doubles down and says, and he went to serve the pigs, and he wasn't even allowed to eat the food that the pigs eat.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: Jesus tripled down.
- 30:36SPEAKER_02: I mean, he continued to make it worse.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: It would have been a visceral response in the crowd that's like, yeah, I've been there.
- 30:43SPEAKER_02: I've been that bad off.
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: And the others are like, yeah, that's pretty bad.
- 30:48SPEAKER_02: That younger brother, he gets what he deserves.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:51SPEAKER_02: That's what the other side is thinking.
- 30:52SPEAKER_02: So Jesus is taking them on a movie.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: This is the Avengers.
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: And Jesus has them all right where he wants them.
- 30:58SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 30:59SPEAKER_02: So he comes to a sense of a little bit.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: I don't think so.
- 31:04SPEAKER_01: We won't play like the music.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: Don't turn me in.
- 31:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 31:06SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 31:07SPEAKER_01: So he has a bit of a change of heart.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: He realizes, what am I doing here?
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: Even the servants have it better than I do.
- 31:15SPEAKER_01: At my father's house.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: So he rehearses this whole speech.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: He's got it planned out.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: He says, I'm going to come back.
- 31:21SPEAKER_01: I'm going to just beg just to be a servant here, a slave to you.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's not even because uh servants and slaves had a position in a house.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: He he presumes to come back as a hired hand, not even connected to the household, to somebody from the outside that comes in.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: So he's not presuming anything.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:38SPEAKER_01: He does, he is practicing his speech though.
- 31:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he's working on a speech.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: You ever had one of those?
- 31:43SPEAKER_01: You told the story when you got busted at the skate park the other day.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but dad showed up.
- 31:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 31:47SPEAKER_02: Well, on that ride home.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: Were you rehearsing?
- 31:49SPEAKER_01: Well, you know, let's see what happened.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: I wasn't gonna do this, but you know, it just happened.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: I landed in that spot you told me specifically about.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: I just went outside to get the mail, and the next thing I knew I wasn't that clear.
- 31:59SPEAKER_02: No, I wasn't that good.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: But but but we all have I won't share those moments.
- 32:04SPEAKER_02: We all I mean I alright, could uh we all have moments where we've tried to prepare our speech to go back in and eat crow.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:11SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 32:12SPEAKER_02: That's relatable.
- 32:13SPEAKER_02: The difference is he's going in realizing that he has he had doesn't deserve any anything but being banished.
- 32:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: There's shame, there's honor, shame in all of that.
- 32:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 32:26SPEAKER_01: So 20 he returned home, he's got his speech ready.
- 32:32SPEAKER_01: When he's a long way off, the father saw him coming, filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, kissed him.
- 32:39SPEAKER_01: The son starts the speech.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: I've sinned against you, both heaven and you, I'm no longer worthy of this.
- 32:45SPEAKER_01: And I think that speaks to your even understanding about how grace is so difficult to receive when you absolutely know you don't deserve it.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 32:54SPEAKER_01: Which that's the whole point of grace.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: But you know, also, yeah, the point.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: Um, but the father doesn't even hear his speech, he doesn't respond, he doesn't wait for an apology.
- 33:05SPEAKER_02: Put the ring on him, put the robe on him, put the sandals on him, welcome him back, go get the fatted calf, let's go.
- 33:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 33:11SPEAKER_01: Joy and compassion, love and compassion.
- 33:13SPEAKER_02: To which back to re let's revisit our people in the crowd.
- 33:17SPEAKER_02: That's bull.
- 33:19SPEAKER_01: Crazy, right?
- 33:19SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 33:20SPEAKER_02: I mean, the Pharisees and the scribes would have been like, no way, that's garbage.
- 33:25SPEAKER_02: Because that son deserved to be flogged, shamed, banished from the family forever.
- 33:30SPEAKER_02: No way he let him back in.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: So you have to understand how that crowd would feel.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: And the boys on the other side are like, yeah, we're back in.
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 33:39SPEAKER_02: So Jesus is trying to teach the heart of God to both.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: And neither one but well, one side would have been like, the other side would have been like, mm-mm, ain't buying it.
- 33:49SPEAKER_01: So let's talk, talk about the heart of the religious, because then you have the other son.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and if Jesus ended the story right there, that would have been where the other two stories ended.
- 33:57SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: That you don't get the follow-up.
- 33:59SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:00SPEAKER_02: Now he goes on and says, okay.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: What about the other?
- 34:03SPEAKER_01: Aftermath, here's the results of what the father's actions.
- 34:07SPEAKER_01: This is now what's led to the righteous son.
- 34:10SPEAKER_01: Self-righteous son.
- 34:11SPEAKER_02: Self-righteous son.
- 34:12SPEAKER_02: So he he's he here, he starts to move to the house, starts to hear a party, calls a servant.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: What's going on?
- 34:19SPEAKER_02: Servant's excited.
- 34:20SPEAKER_02: Man, they're throwing a party because so-and-so, your uh your brother was gone and now he's back, and so we had to throw a party.
- 34:26SPEAKER_02: And he's angry.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: The older brother's angry and refuses to come in.
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: He refuses to rejoice.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: I will not party.
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: So back to your rejoice, he refuses to rejoice.
- 34:39SPEAKER_02: And and there's a place where the the Pharisees and the scribes might go, Yeah, that's right.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: Good for him.
- 34:46SPEAKER_02: Good for him.
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: He shouldn't go in.
- 34:51SPEAKER_02: But what does the father do?
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: Father goes out there.
- 34:55SPEAKER_02: Another thing that the father should not be doing.
- 34:58SPEAKER_02: Father pursues both sons.
- 35:00SPEAKER_02: I like to say that both sons were lost.
- 35:04SPEAKER_02: Father had to go after both of them.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: And he loves both of them.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: So he's this is not a let me bash them.
- 35:11SPEAKER_02: This is a I love I love I love you too, to the tax collectors.
- 35:16SPEAKER_02: I mean, sorry, I'm sorry, to the Pharisees and the scribes.
- 35:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: So go go ahead.
- 35:21SPEAKER_01: Do you I kind of love how this is still open-ended because you don't know whether the the older brother comes in or not.
- 35:30SPEAKER_02: But he goes out to him.
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: He's like, What's your what's your deal?
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: But he says it in a nicer way.
- 35:34SPEAKER_02: And the older son spills truth.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: His truth.
- 35:40SPEAKER_02: His truth is, I've been here for you all along, and you've not given me anything to to celebrate my friends.
- 35:46SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 35:46SPEAKER_02: Not even a goat.
- 35:47SPEAKER_02: Not a goat.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: You're not giving me a goat, but another, but another example, you've not even given me a goat to celebrate my friends.
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: And this son of yours, right?
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: I love that.
- 35:57SPEAKER_02: Your child, um, not my brother.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: This son of yours went out with prostitutes and drinking and squandered all of that inheritance.
- 36:06SPEAKER_02: He is not wrong, right?
- 36:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, there are people out there, very real, that you're here and you're like, yeah, I've got a younger brother, I got a younger sister, and that's exactly what she's done.
- 36:15SPEAKER_02: And I won't ever speak to her again.
- 36:16SPEAKER_02: And I'm I'm not telling you, hey, you need to just tell you this is the story Jesus is telling.
- 36:21SPEAKER_02: This guy's angry.
- 36:23SPEAKER_02: He's bitter, he's frustrated.
- 36:25SPEAKER_02: And the father, so Jesus is telling the story of the father, the father says, You've been with me this whole time.
- 36:32SPEAKER_02: What's mine is yours.
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: Always.
- 36:34SPEAKER_02: You have always had access to me.
- 36:37SPEAKER_02: But your brother was lost and now he's found.
- 36:40SPEAKER_02: What what you have to come face to face with is that regardless of what one son did versus the other son, both of them viewed the father in terms of what they could get.
- 36:57SPEAKER_02: One was trying to earn and do all the things right, but at the end of the day, he didn't get the goat.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:03SPEAKER_02: And he's mad that he's given more to the even though it's the father's to give.
- 37:08SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 37:08SPEAKER_02: He has claimed some sort of right that's not his at this at this juncture.
- 37:13SPEAKER_02: We could probably talk about that because he did split the inheritance.
- 37:16SPEAKER_02: So he is gonna have a cost to pay and all that.
- 37:18SPEAKER_02: But Jesus is shaping the heart towards towards the whole thing.
- 37:21SPEAKER_02: So now ask your question, because I I think that's that there's a man, that's just a deep riff that would have made sense.
- 37:27SPEAKER_02: The the fact that he explained that it was prostitutes and drinking, I think further reiterates the fact that Jesus is not writing off what the other son did.
- 37:36SPEAKER_02: I think he's trying to address how beautiful the grace of God is.
- 37:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: And how it should shape our hearts.
- 37:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: And I'm still choosing to, still choosing to love him.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: Well, both in rebellion for the younger son and obedience in the older son, neither one of them understood the father's heart.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: Correct.
- 37:54SPEAKER_01: Really?
- 37:55SPEAKER_01: Because think about even the younger son, he expected he did not expect what he got, what he came home to.
- 38:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, no way.
- 38:02SPEAKER_01: Like that was not, oh, my father's such a gracious father, he's gonna welcome me back.
- 38:07SPEAKER_01: It was maybe I can just get another place.
- 38:11SPEAKER_01: Maybe I can be a hired hand.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: I can get a job.
- 38:12SPEAKER_01: My dad will hire me.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:14SPEAKER_01: And so he he missed the father's heart.
- 38:16SPEAKER_01: Obviously, the older son does too.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: What I was just gonna say is I kind of love the open-endedness.
- 38:21SPEAKER_01: It's almost like the invitation to the Pharisees and the religious, it's open.
- 38:26SPEAKER_01: What do you what are you gonna choose to do with it?
- 38:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, are you gonna come in and rejoice?
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:31SPEAKER_01: So what's the the rejoicing to you?
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: Like what uh why is that such an important thread through each of these stories?
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: And how how should we receive that as instruction?
- 38:43SPEAKER_02: I don't really know.
- 38:45SPEAKER_02: But clearly it matters to Jesus that God celebrates and rejoices when lost things are found.
- 38:50SPEAKER_02: So I think I would just have to start if we're gonna talk practical faith.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: I would have to start from the fact that if I wrote a list and said the heart of God towards the lost, he's gonna go search.
- 39:01SPEAKER_02: He's he's waiting with eager anticipation, how he receives the lost, he rejoices, the angels in heaven rejoice.
- 39:09SPEAKER_02: Like go down the list, right?
- 39:11SPEAKER_02: I mean, like the way that God values, we're gonna talk about values, God values the lost, and he values when they're found.
- 39:20SPEAKER_02: Don't miss that.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: Uh yeah, can you if you're a person that's been found, can you be mad about that?
- 39:29SPEAKER_02: It would sure, you can be mad about anything you want to be, but you would misunderstand the heart of God, right?
- 39:34SPEAKER_02: Or you would misunderstand your lostness, right?
- 39:37SPEAKER_02: Or or the degree to which what we've been what what we receive is what God has given us.
- 39:43SPEAKER_02: So we need to we need to hold all of that in a way that makes makes a little bit better sense.
- 39:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:48SPEAKER_01: There's uh some things you can read that scholars believe, uh and I guess historical tradition, that some of these religious leaders even refuse to share the truth of God to our sinners.
- 40:04SPEAKER_01: That they would not even run they would not even entertain them to try to have this repentance because they thought you're just too far gone.
- 40:13SPEAKER_01: I'm not even gonna share this with you because you don't deserve to know.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: It these kinds of stories seem to be the thing that ultimately is what got Jesus killed, this radical grace that people did not know what to do with.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: Do you think this is a new way when we're talking people and the heart of the Father?
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: I don't think it's hard for us to maybe understand, yeah, if I come back repentant enough, the Father will receive me.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: But this idea that not only receive you, he's gonna pursue you.
- 40:47SPEAKER_02: I'll I'll re- I'm not gonna reframe your thought.
- 40:49SPEAKER_02: Let me reframe and you can tell me if I'm close.
- 40:51SPEAKER_02: What's what's the point?
- 40:52SPEAKER_02: Right?
- 40:53SPEAKER_02: Because I think the m you you said this to start off the sermon of the sermon, the conversation.
- 40:59SPEAKER_02: The felt need is probably different because the because the paradigm has shifted in our understanding, like we feel different towards people that are broken or lost.
- 41:10SPEAKER_02: Uh there is there is pep there are people who you might perceive to be Pharisees, but it's not as common as what you think, or it's hidden different.
- 41:19SPEAKER_02: So the parable feels different today than what it would have felt like in culture back then.
- 41:24SPEAKER_02: So maybe when I look at the congregation on Sunday morning, there's not going to be a single Pharisee in there that hates for us to reach the lost.
- 41:31SPEAKER_02: I don't think they'd be at our church if they felt that.
- 41:34SPEAKER_02: Um, I do think there might be a person in their life that might look on someone with disdain because of personal offenses that have happened to them and maybe struggling with being able to forgive them.
- 41:46SPEAKER_02: And the only way to maybe able to get to that place is to truly understand the value that God has for that person and then to understand that they're lost.
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: And if if we could wrap our mind around that, then then maybe it gives you the ability to now, but okay, time out.
- 42:01SPEAKER_02: I gotta back up.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: I'll correct myself.
- 42:03SPEAKER_02: This younger brother made a decision to do this.
- 42:05SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 42:06SPEAKER_02: Uh different different than a sheep that walks off.
- 42:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:09SPEAKER_02: Different than a coin that just falls off a table.
- 42:12SPEAKER_02: So, you know, there there is some truth that people can have and hold an offense.
- 42:16SPEAKER_02: We've got to get to the place where we understand the heart of God in that.
- 42:20SPEAKER_01: Sometimes that's just hard.
- 42:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: Is that the ultimate call for us, though, to share that same heart that he has for people?
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think we have to add it to our understanding.
- 42:31SPEAKER_02: What may Yeah, yes, yes.
- 42:33SPEAKER_02: Everybody's gonna get a different point.
- 42:35SPEAKER_02: We had this in worship planning yesterday.
- 42:36SPEAKER_02: Um, Addy said, So is there a is there an equal progression among the things?
- 42:41SPEAKER_02: There's all kinds of progressions through them.
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: But if you read this parable and I read this parable and everybody on Sunday reads a parable, everybody's gonna come away with something different.
- 42:47SPEAKER_02: That's the beauty of a parable.
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: Uh so what my job is is to take one or two points, put them out there and say, here's what I see, but everybody else is gonna see something different.
- 42:56SPEAKER_02: If I think of the heart of our church, it might be to continue to remember the value of lost things and that we have to always keep that at the forefront.
- 43:05SPEAKER_02: But it's also important for us to walk and chew gum at the same time.
- 43:09SPEAKER_02: When the father takes and puts the robe on the sun and puts the ring on the sun and all of those different things, there's a responsibility still to be a part of the family that can't be lost.
- 43:19SPEAKER_02: To be connected to the father means something different.
- 43:21SPEAKER_02: I mean, it doesn't just mean that that son comes back and can can go, he didn't have the robe.
- 43:26SPEAKER_02: He didn't have the ring, he didn't have those things.
- 43:27SPEAKER_02: He comes back in, he is now seen differently.
- 43:30SPEAKER_02: So there's a there's a piece that's transformation, that's a shift, that's a heart that that shows up without losing the heart of what God has just shown to you.
- 43:38SPEAKER_02: Now the son, oh, maybe here's maybe here's the point of the message.
- 43:41SPEAKER_02: I'm talking it out.
- 43:43SPEAKER_02: If the son truly understood the father and um and res, you know, okay, I don't have it yet.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: There's a point in there to be understood as to the true value of the connection between the son and the father, and it's not the stuff.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: Talk about that.
- 44:01SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: Because I think that's that's pretty a good truth, right?
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: Oh yeah.
- 44:06SPEAKER_01: The robe and the ring and the party I think is the point because the covering the authority and then the celebration.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a two point thing.
- 44:17SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's the next layer of this is what Jesus is to us, the covering, like we don't come even if this guy had the best I'm sorry speech prepared, not gonna earn be able to earn that.
- 44:28SPEAKER_01: He doesn't even hear his speech.
- 44:30SPEAKER_01: And he gets the covering, the robe, you know, he gets the ring, the authority, and he gets the party.
- 44:37SPEAKER_01: And I I think that's that's the understanding, the deeper layer of understanding of what Jesus has actually invited us into and what he's come to do, what he came to do.
- 44:48SPEAKER_02: The cautious Pharisees of the day would say, Yeah, but he repented, he knew he had done wrong against heaven and earth, then he comes back.
- 44:54SPEAKER_02: So so there's always the search to make sure that there's a real change in his heart, right?
- 44:57SPEAKER_02: Like the father didn't just wastefully want and do that.
- 45:00SPEAKER_02: So somewhere in there there's a message.
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: I hear you're a thousand percent right.
- 45:03SPEAKER_02: And that's you're preaching my message, by the way.
- 45:06SPEAKER_02: That's me.
- 45:06SPEAKER_02: I'm the grace guy.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: I also sit in a world where there's a lot of people that are like, yeah, but so there has to be transformation.
- 45:14SPEAKER_02: There's a peace in there that actually that happens in his life.
- 45:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:17SPEAKER_02: And an understanding that, yeah, I don't deserve, but the father.
- 45:21SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 45:22SPEAKER_01: So but both are open-ended.
- 45:24SPEAKER_01: You don't know what happens to the younger son, very, very true.
- 45:26SPEAKER_01: And you don't know what happens to the older son.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: Very true.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: So I I think that's the point.
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: Okay, here's the here is the truth and the invitation.
- 45:34SPEAKER_01: What are you gonna do with it?
- 45:35SPEAKER_01: And then it's not up to us to then dictate and measure every single thing you do the rest of your life.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: That's between you and God.
- 45:42SPEAKER_02: Does this does this I'm gonna ask you questions now?
- 45:44SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 45:44SPEAKER_02: Does this par do these parables tell us that God values people?
- 45:49SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 45:49SPEAKER_02: Okay, in what way?
- 45:54SPEAKER_01: How does he value them?
- 45:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 45:56SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, he pursues.
- 45:58unknown: Yeah.
- 45:59SPEAKER_01: So I think I think that's a new understanding that Jesus brought that maybe wasn't in this time.
- 46:05SPEAKER_01: Maybe God will receive you, but this father, even the the undignified way the father would run to a son was sh would have been shocking.
- 46:13SPEAKER_01: Would have never happened then.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: It would have been a shocking message to say what dignified man would run after somebody.
- 46:20SPEAKER_02: Unless it was followed with a slap.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: Right?
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, really.
- 46:23SPEAKER_01: So the son's like, ah, here it goes.
- 46:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 46:26SPEAKER_01: So a completely new and shocking understanding of God's love.
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: So I would say there for sure.
- 46:35SPEAKER_01: Um I think you see, I don't even it's a rebuke to the religious and the Pharisees, but I I also just I hold to this invitation.
- 46:44SPEAKER_01: He's like, This is the heart that you guys have, but this is actually the father's heart.
- 46:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 46:49SPEAKER_02: But he does, but he also says to them, and you have me all everything I have is yours.
- 46:53SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 46:54SPEAKER_02: You have the benefit of all of the things, right?
- 46:57SPEAKER_02: So so maybe the blessings, the authority, the stuff that you're talking about.
- 47:00SPEAKER_02: Somewhere in there's a delineation between the des uh the dissolute living and the actual authority and the responsibility of what it means to be connected to the Father.
- 47:11SPEAKER_02: And that's and and I Robin would uh Robin uh would say to me, he would say, Um, Scott, you're trying to you're trying to make that thing more than what it needs to be.
- 47:19SPEAKER_02: Jesus is making the point to the people that are in front of him.
- 47:21SPEAKER_02: I'm trying to make it the full life story.
- 47:23SPEAKER_02: So you're right.
- 47:24SPEAKER_02: It's open-ended.
- 47:25SPEAKER_02: He's he didn't try to resolve every single question we have in life with these through these three parables.
- 47:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I think he speaks to both and he loves both.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 47:33SPEAKER_02: And the message is clear that maybe you just don't see that you need to repent too.
- 47:38SPEAKER_02: That you you're just wanting me for this.
- 47:40SPEAKER_02: You're just you're just willing to wait till I die.
- 47:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 47:43SPEAKER_01: And repentance is a beautiful thing because the result of it is the celebration.
- 47:48SPEAKER_01: Even the heavenly realms are celebrating.
- 47:50SPEAKER_01: So maybe it speaks to the shame you're talking about because repentance, you have to admit defeat.
- 47:56SPEAKER_01: You have to turn from whatever it is you've been running towards.
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: There is a shame of like either I don't want to let this go or I'm too ashamed to even admit all of this.
- 48:05SPEAKER_01: And I think you see the heart of the father there too.
- 48:07SPEAKER_01: It's like, I already know.
- 48:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:09SPEAKER_01: You don't even need to I don't need to hear the story, like, I'm just glad you're back.
- 48:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 48:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it wasn't a what's what's your plan?
- 48:17SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 48:18SPEAKER_02: What's your plan?
- 48:18SPEAKER_01: How are you gonna make sure this doesn't happen again?
- 48:20SPEAKER_01: It's not that.
- 48:21SPEAKER_01: And I think we can think of God like that.
- 48:25SPEAKER_01: But just I think we we miss it.
- 48:29SPEAKER_02: I wanna preach this sermon right now.
- 48:32SPEAKER_02: You wanna go downstairs and do it?
- 48:33SPEAKER_02: We can turn everything on.
- 48:34SPEAKER_02: I I mean I am so excited about this.
- 48:36SPEAKER_02: This is this is my ha this is my happy place.
- 48:39SPEAKER_02: Um preaching scripture and and getting to the heart of God that sometimes because I uh man, it breaks my heart when somebody doesn't understand their value in the eyes of God.
- 48:49SPEAKER_02: Even with all the stuff that you've done that I've done, it doesn't change the heart of God.
- 48:56SPEAKER_02: It does impact your life.
- 48:57SPEAKER_02: Sure.
- 48:58SPEAKER_02: It can make your life a living hell, the decisions that you make.
- 49:01SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and your relationships, people that love you.
- 49:03SPEAKER_02: It just obviously there's Tasmanian devil to your family and everything else, a swirling dervish, that's my favorite word.
- 49:10SPEAKER_02: Um in your family, the way that you choose to live.
- 49:13SPEAKER_02: But so the choices you make can cause all of those things, but it doesn't change the fact that God pursues lost things and um man wants to reconnect and just have that moment.
- 49:24SPEAKER_02: I mean not it's not just that moment, that right that transformation life.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 49:28SPEAKER_02: Eternally.
- 49:29SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 49:29SPEAKER_01: That'll preach.
- 49:31SPEAKER_01: It's going to Sunday.
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:34SPEAKER_01: So come Sunday, you don't want to miss it.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: Maybe you gave away, we're dividing the crowd.
- 49:40SPEAKER_01: We just preach the whole sermon, but you know.
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: Still come.
- 49:42SPEAKER_01: It'll be good.
- 49:43SPEAKER_02: If you come in and I give you a card that says you're a tax collector, a center, don't be offended.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: No.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: No.
- 49:47SPEAKER_02: I I will not do that.
- 49:49SPEAKER_02: I just may, and I may switch it between each parable.
- 49:52SPEAKER_02: I may say, hey, left, right, front, center, whatever.
- 49:54SPEAKER_02: People for the center of the front.
- 49:56SPEAKER_02: Pharisees.
- 49:57SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 49:57SPEAKER_02: I'm kidding.
- 49:58SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 49:59SPEAKER_01: Everybody in the back, glad you're here.
- 50:01SPEAKER_01: Welcome.
- 50:02SPEAKER_01: That's good.
- 50:03SPEAKER_01: We'll hope to see you guys this week.
- 50:05SPEAKER_01: We're gonna kick off our Welcome Home series.
- 50:07SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be amazing.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: Time and celebration.
- 50:09SPEAKER_01: Don't wanna miss it.
- 50:11SPEAKER_02: Blessing of the backpacks.
- 50:12SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 50:13SPEAKER_02: Promotion Sunday.
- 50:14SPEAKER_02: If you got kids and you're showing up, bring them to the grade that they're going into.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: But have them bring their backpacks.
- 50:20SPEAKER_02: Littles, not littles, but up to fifth grade.
- 50:23SPEAKER_02: Bring their backpacks, they're gonna march up.
- 50:24SPEAKER_02: We're gonna march them up for the church.
- 50:26SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be absolute chaos.
- 50:28SPEAKER_01: Free overall of our teachers are gonna make them all the Pharisees and topic school.
- 50:31SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: That's it.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: There it goes.
- 50:33SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 50:34SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 50:35SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 50:35SPEAKER_01: We'll see you guys.
- 50:36SPEAKER_01: Love you guys.
