- 0:00Podcasthero.com Welcome to the Daily Quote podcast, designed to
- 0:06kick start your day in a positive way.
- 0:09I'm your host, Anna Macgibbon for December 13th, today's
- 0:13National Cocoa Day, celebrating the rich, warm beverage that has
- 0:17been bringing comfort to cold hands and weary souls for
- 0:20centuries. Hot cocoa dates back over 5000
- 0:25years to ancient Mesoamerica, where the Mayans and Aztecs
- 0:29consumed it as a bitter, spicy drink, far different than the
- 0:32sweet version we know today. They believed chocolate had
- 0:36divine properties and even used cocoa beans as currency.
- 0:42When Spanish explorers brought cocoa to Europe in the 16th
- 0:46century, sugar was added, transforming it into the sweet,
- 0:50comforting drink that spread across the continent.
- 0:54By the 19th century, hot cocoa had become a winter staple, the
- 0:59perfect antidote to cold weather and difficult days.
- 1:03Today, whether you prefer it with marshmallows, whipped
- 1:06cream, or plain, hot cocoa reminds one of life's simple
- 1:11pleasures. And that brings us to today's
- 1:13quote from Swiss philosopher Henry Frederick Emil, who
- 1:17captured something beautiful about warmth and comfort when he
- 1:21wrote Love is like swallowing hot chocolate before it is
- 1:25cooled off. It takes you by surprise at
- 1:28first, but keeps you warm for a long time.
- 1:33A meal's comparison is perfect. Love, like hot chocolate, has
- 1:40that initial shock, the intensity, the heat, the way it
- 1:44catches you off guard. You think you're ready for it,
- 1:48but that first moment still surprises you.
- 1:51But here's what makes both love and hot chocolate remarkable.
- 1:56The lasting warmth. Long after that first sip, you
- 2:00feel it spreading through you. Your fingers warm up your chest
- 2:04feels later. The chill that had settled into
- 2:08your bones slowly melts away. Love works the same way.
- 2:13The initial rush might be, but the warmth remains.
- 2:17It settles into something steady and sustaining.
- 2:20It keeps you warm long after that first surprise, through
- 2:24cold days and difficult seasons. Hot cocoa is comfort in its most
- 2:30concentrated form. Sweet, warm, exactly what you
- 2:34need when the world feels cold. It's love you can hold in your
- 2:39hands. It's warmth you can taste.
- 2:44So today, make hot cocoa. Not the instant kind.
- 2:47They're real stuff. Take your time, use good cocoa,
- 2:52add a pinch of something special.
- 2:54Cinnamon, vanilla, A-OF cayenne if you're feeling adventurous,
- 3:00and maybe a little bit of Baileys.
- 3:04And better yet, make it for someone else.
- 3:07Pour it into a real mug, hand it to them.
- 3:11Warm because Emil was right. Hot chocolate, like love, takes
- 3:16you by surprise and keeps you warm for a long time.
- 3:20In a cold world, that's something worth sharing.
- 3:24That's going to do it for today. I'm Andrew Mcgibbon, signing off
- 3:27for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
- 3:31Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
