Transcript
- This is the New Realm Compliance Brief, Volume One, Edition Twenty Four, for Monday, September Seventh. Our top story. With the federal hemp T H C recriminalization now delayed from November twelfth to December eleventh under the bill President Trump signed last week, House Republicans are divided on what comes next. Representative Beth Van Duyne of Texas is sponsoring a bill to tax and regulate hemp T H C beverages like alcohol. Representative Morgan Griffith of Virginia filed legislation requiring third party testing for hemp cannabinoid products. And Representative Dave Joyce of Ohio proposes a commission to build a regulatory framework modeled on alcohol rules. Representative Andy Harris of Maryland, who authored the ban language, rejects regulation and said the priority is stopping sales that reach children. Synthetic cannabinoids remain set for recriminalization on November twelfth, a date the delay did not move. In other federal news, President Trump commuted the sentences of two people serving federal marijuana distribution terms, while a D E A administrative judge prepares a recommendation on moving cannabis to Schedule Three. The D E A administrator would make the final determination. Around the states. North Carolina's legislature reconvenes in November to decide hemp product regulation, after the two chambers split in July over a bill capping products at four tenths of a milligram of T H C and barring sales to those under twenty one. The governor's advisory council is due to deliver recommendations by the end of the year. And in Florida, regulators proposed stricter marketing rules for medical cannabis businesses. On the radar: November twelfth for the synthetic cannabinoid recriminalization, and December eleventh for the delayed federal hemp T H C ban, absent further action from Congress.
