- 0:07Speaker 1: This season.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Bob Knight and Gale USA Today and ft Inside are
- 0:11Speaker 2: joining us right now. Bob, great to have you back
- 0:13Speaker 2: on here. And let's get right to the headliner, Trek
- 0:15Speaker 2: Skubele and a team that you might be hearing a
- 0:18Speaker 2: little bit more about than some expect, the Atlanta Braves.
- 0:22Speaker 2: What do you think are the chances that the Braves
- 0:24Speaker 2: and Alexanthopolis actually pushing up chips across the table to
- 0:27Speaker 2: convince Detroit.
- 0:29Speaker 3: I think think I let Jim a chance, and I
- 0:31Speaker 3: think they need him more than most teams.
- 0:34Speaker 4: Let's face that the Dinners don't need him, and they're
- 0:36Speaker 4: they're doing just quite well without him. They got, you know,
- 0:39Speaker 4: Glass Knuts coming back like Smell's coming back. The Yankees
- 0:43Speaker 4: they don't need him. They've got Max Free coming back.
- 0:45Speaker 4: You know, both teams be luxury. That way is wide open.
- 0:49Speaker 4: The Brewers keep kind of pooh pooing, yet like, let's see,
- 0:52Speaker 4: we don't really do that. I don't think the price
- 0:54Speaker 4: tag is going to be as high as people think,
- 0:56Speaker 4: so I think Atlanta kind of late lower the weeds
- 0:59Speaker 4: here and I have a good chance to a theay
- 1:01Speaker 4: to grab this guy. I think you put him on
- 1:04Speaker 4: the Atlanta's team. They got a chance to win.
- 1:06Speaker 3: It all.
- 1:09Speaker 5: Massive, But where do you feel like Atlanta would push
- 1:12Speaker 5: because of payroll quote restrictions, they would want to like
- 1:17Speaker 5: buy down some of that money and send more prospects.
- 1:20Speaker 5: Do you think they would send big league, big league
- 1:22Speaker 5: ready pieces to the Tigers.
- 1:26Speaker 3: And they got enough in the farm system.
- 1:27Speaker 4: I don't think it's you know required, you know, buying
- 1:30Speaker 4: down and they got plenty of money. They are well
- 1:31Speaker 4: below the lux your tax threshold anyway, and they make
- 1:35Speaker 4: a mint in the battery, so money should be no
- 1:37Speaker 4: problem to them. As much money as these guys make.
- 1:40Speaker 4: So no, I just think it's a matter of, Okay,
- 1:42Speaker 4: what prospects will that take? And let's face it, I mean,
- 1:45Speaker 4: if they're in the World Series all of a sudden,
- 1:48Speaker 4: you're making a ton of money, and uh, you know,
- 1:50Speaker 4: very unlikely they would sign him. But obviously, if Scooble's there,
- 1:54Speaker 4: got for a couple of months, then he's got to
- 1:57Speaker 4: read in an organization, whether he likes or not. Lives
- 2:00Speaker 4: in you know, Phoenix in the off season, you know,
- 2:02Speaker 4: they obviously Atlanta trains in Florida. But I think he
- 2:05Speaker 4: might open his eyes, like if they had any chance
- 2:07Speaker 4: to sign him, you know, uh, your better chances once
- 2:11Speaker 4: you have him for a couple months.
- 2:16Speaker 6: Yeah, so obviously that is a first off. Was going
- 2:20Speaker 6: on Bob long time.
- 2:23Speaker 7: Yeah you too.
- 2:24Speaker 6: So if this move was to happen, do you see
- 2:27Speaker 6: Atlanta as like the clear front runner right now or
- 2:29Speaker 6: do you expect the team that may be a dark
- 2:31Speaker 6: horse coming out of nowhere to say, hey, we're gonna
- 2:34Speaker 6: jump in on this.
- 2:36Speaker 3: I mean the team I love to see it is Milwaukee.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Imagine they had miss Rowski, you know, Harrison and scooball one, two, three.
- 2:43Speaker 4: I don't give them as good chance as anybody to
- 2:46Speaker 4: win the World Series. They was certainly a matchup with
- 2:48Speaker 4: the Dodgers. Uh, I take those three over any three.
- 2:53Speaker 4: You know, trio and baseball. I mean, obviously Philadelphia has
- 2:55Speaker 4: got a great trio. You know, the Yankees went healthy,
- 2:58Speaker 4: the Dodgers went healthy. Depend on snaw, but uh no,
- 3:02Speaker 4: I think either team walk or Atlanta.
- 3:04Speaker 3: Uh, you know what pushed them to the top.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Like I said, I'd love to see Milwaukee really go
- 3:10Speaker 4: after this thing, not just make the playoffs, but give
- 3:13Speaker 4: themselves a legitimate shot to get that World Series.
- 3:15Speaker 3: It's been a long time for those guys.
- 3:18Speaker 5: Wait, Bob, because AJ's not on today. Uh. They beat
- 3:22Speaker 5: the first place White Sox this weekend, so are the Tigers.
- 3:26Speaker 5: Where would you say your percentage because I'm not sure
- 3:28Speaker 5: who we had on the other day, but they have percentages.
- 3:30Speaker 5: What's the percentage chance the Tigers keep him?
- 3:36Speaker 4: I would say, Uh, you know that was a big
- 3:40Speaker 4: weekend series.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Uh, you know, knocking off the White Sox.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Well, only you know, seven and a half back and
- 3:45Speaker 4: they're still on buy back five and a half back
- 3:47Speaker 4: in the wild card race. They port a lot of
- 3:50Speaker 4: mainstreace team I think tour and two men in our payroll,
- 3:53Speaker 4: largest enfranchise history. I think, no matter what, they're going
- 3:57Speaker 4: to wait to the very end. I think the last
- 3:59Speaker 4: seventy two hours seeing are we in this.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Thing or not?
- 4:02Speaker 4: I remember the Tigers did that years ago with David Price,
- 4:05Speaker 4: and we've seen that more and more. The Angels didn't
- 4:07Speaker 4: make up their mind for good Otani. They were around
- 4:10Speaker 4: three and a half back in captain, so I think
- 4:14Speaker 4: the same thing here with Scooba. I also think you
- 4:17Speaker 4: know once they start talking to teams that you know
- 4:20Speaker 4: you're not gonna get a haul like at one, so noo,
- 4:22Speaker 4: you're gonna get some nice pieces back, but why not
- 4:25Speaker 4: go for it.
- 4:26Speaker 3: I think Tiger fans would would love it.
- 4:28Speaker 4: But they get to play good baseball between now when
- 4:31Speaker 4: at least in last week of July.
- 4:34Speaker 5: But we talk about a picture like Trek Scouble, every
- 4:37Speaker 5: extra start can help because we're not talking about teams
- 4:40Speaker 5: that are necessarily locked into braves right now. You talk
- 4:43Speaker 5: about them, Yeah, they've lost like four games in the
- 4:45Speaker 5: standings recently, there's still six up. But extra two starts
- 4:50Speaker 5: from Trek Scuoble is worth at least. I don't know,
- 4:53Speaker 5: like a fringe prospect.
- 4:56Speaker 4: I think the Tigers, though you used, don't want to
- 4:58Speaker 4: move too fast, and whether they get back in this
- 5:00Speaker 4: race and look at complete idiots if they dump them.
- 5:03Speaker 3: You know, the CCCU bath one is, you know, the
- 5:05Speaker 3: most famous.
- 5:06Speaker 4: They got him, I think in July seventh, and he
- 5:08Speaker 4: have him, you know, like you said, a good four
- 5:11Speaker 4: more starts and not five more starts in the month
- 5:14Speaker 4: of July, and it's a big thing. But just nobody
- 5:17Speaker 4: wants to move quickly, and I don't think the Tigers
- 5:20Speaker 4: can move quickly.
- 5:21Speaker 3: I think someone pointing out.
- 5:22Speaker 4: I forgot you get a Turk Schooble bubblehead Night sometime
- 5:25Speaker 4: before the All Star break.
- 5:27Speaker 3: So I don't think there's any way in the world
- 5:29Speaker 3: you can trade a.
- 5:29Speaker 4: School before the bibblehead Night without fans going ballistic and
- 5:33Speaker 4: throw those bibble heads back in the field.
- 5:37Speaker 5: Okay, please don't do that, fans just because Bob said
- 5:40Speaker 5: to do it. Don't do that. I don't think. I
- 5:42Speaker 5: don't think the Mets have a Freddy peralta bibblehead Night.
- 5:45Speaker 5: But his recent pitching fallings failings something that will not
- 5:54Speaker 5: only keep him in New York because nobody want to
- 5:56Speaker 5: trade for him, or just completely diminish the value that
- 5:59Speaker 5: the Mets could get for Freddie p.
- 6:02Speaker 4: Well, there's no califing opera on. I think they're gonna
- 6:04Speaker 4: have no choice but but to trade him and uh
- 6:08Speaker 4: and we'll see. I think the uh. You know, he's
- 6:10Speaker 4: pretty much the same pitcher as he was in Milwaukee.
- 6:13Speaker 4: I mean, he's not pitching lights out, but it wasn't
- 6:16Speaker 4: like he was throwing complete games of Milwaukee either. He
- 6:18Speaker 4: is going five innings, six things at a time. I
- 6:21Speaker 4: answer when Milwaukee said, you know what, we can we
- 6:23Speaker 4: can let him go and trade him. Let's trade him
- 6:26Speaker 4: at the high value and wait until they got their price.
- 6:29Speaker 4: I mean a heck of a deal, you know with
- 6:32Speaker 4: the Mets. You know, Milwaukee count of reminds me of
- 6:35Speaker 4: Tampa Bay. You don't want to do with these guys
- 6:37Speaker 4: because they're not the same players when they leave those
- 6:40Speaker 4: two teams. Uh, but no, I think they're gonna have
- 6:43Speaker 4: no choice but to trade Pralota and I'm not sure
- 6:46Speaker 4: what you're gonna get. I mean, he's the front line
- 6:48Speaker 4: starter who's also star is only gonna give you, you know,
- 6:51Speaker 4: six innings Max, a lot of nights five.
- 6:55Speaker 5: When my puppy Bella has something wrong, I'm not gonna
- 6:58Speaker 5: go around google what to do.
- 7:01Speaker 1: Yeah, Kratz, let's have a better plan.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Today's episode is sponsored by the ASPCA Pet Health Insurance Program.

- 7:32Speaker 2: visit ASPCA Pet Insurance dot com slash foul. That's ASPCA
- 7:36Speaker 2: Pet Insurance dot com slash foul. Again, that's ASPCA Pet

- 7:43Speaker 2: Insurance is underwritten by either Independent American Insurance Company or
- 7:46Speaker 2: United States Fire Insurance Company and produced by PTZ Insurance
- 7:50Speaker 2: Agency Limited. The ASPCA is not an insurance and is
- 7:53Speaker 2: not engaged in the business of insurance.
- 7:55Speaker 5: But what you said you said in no qualifying offer,
- 7:58Speaker 5: you're saying because he gets true, if he were to
- 8:00Speaker 5: get traded, no qualifying offer would be attached to him.
- 8:04Speaker 5: But if he doesn't get traded, are you saying the
- 8:06Speaker 5: METS there's a chance they possibly do extend him a
- 8:09Speaker 5: qualifying offer.
- 8:11Speaker 4: I think they would extend a qualifying offer. I do Eric,
- 8:14Speaker 4: but they try to sign him in the spring and
- 8:17Speaker 4: weren't close at all. Remember if he came out publicly
- 8:20Speaker 4: and sit he wants a seven year, eight year contract
- 8:23Speaker 4: and then David Stearns doesn't operate that way. So I'd
- 8:26Speaker 4: be surprised when he turns to New York. Uh, you know,
- 8:30Speaker 4: I think they'd give a qualifying offer. But then again,
- 8:32Speaker 4: with the CBA negotiations, you know, will there even be
- 8:36Speaker 4: qualifying offers? Remember last time they had a CBA talks,
- 8:39Speaker 4: they said we'll have an international draft and we'll get
- 8:42Speaker 4: rid of the qualifying offer and some agents, which they
- 8:45Speaker 4: had done it. So I'd be surprised at all it
- 8:47Speaker 4: does even a qualifying offer he'd beginning in twenty twenty seven.
- 8:53Speaker 7: All right, I got a question for you, Bob.
- 8:55Speaker 6: As we sit here and we're expecting, you know, Freddy
- 8:58Speaker 6: to be traded, and and we're talking teams that are
- 9:01Speaker 6: in the mix, and obviously his year hasn't gone expected,
- 9:04Speaker 6: would you expect teams that are in like that wild
- 9:06Speaker 6: card to be more aggressive And would you see a team,
- 9:09Speaker 6: even with the struggles, possibly getting them for like maybe
- 9:12Speaker 6: bullpen help if he could be like a long relief.
- 9:14Speaker 7: Obviously we know how to playoffs and stuff.
- 9:16Speaker 1: Go.
- 9:18Speaker 4: I don't think he'd be a bullpen help, but I
- 9:19Speaker 4: agree with you John, there might be more to the
- 9:22Speaker 4: teams trying to qualify for the playoffs. I mean, when
- 9:25Speaker 4: he cracked Philly's top three. No Yankees, no, you know,
- 9:29Speaker 4: maybe not even the Brewers. You know, maybe the number
- 9:31Speaker 4: three guy. But I think since he's not that you know,
- 9:35Speaker 4: Ace or number two guy, he'd by falling the teams
- 9:38Speaker 4: that hey, we're trying to make the playoffs here. You know, Hey, Detroit,
- 9:41Speaker 4: you know, decides to keep Scooball might not go after
- 9:44Speaker 4: a par Alta and say, you know what if we
- 9:46Speaker 4: get pro Alta with school ball, then we got a
- 9:48Speaker 4: chance to make a playoff run and do something special.
- 9:53Speaker 5: I would love to see. I would love to see
- 9:55Speaker 5: Freddy Parolta go back to the Brewers. That would be
- 9:58Speaker 5: tremendous traded from the team and back to him. But
- 10:02Speaker 5: I've got I got to go to a team that
- 10:03Speaker 5: doesn't want to trade anybody. Per your report, Arnie Moreno
- 10:07Speaker 5: is reluctant or he doesn't want to trade Soriano, Debtmers,
- 10:12Speaker 5: Joe Adell. There are big three pieces that could bring
- 10:14Speaker 5: back a significant hall.
- 10:18Speaker 3: He really doesn't want to at all.
- 10:20Speaker 4: When you think about it, det I mean, he's pitching
- 10:23Speaker 4: lights out right now, He's got two years of control,
- 10:25Speaker 4: and I think Ardi Morino is saying, way, man, now,
- 10:28Speaker 4: these are the type of guys we want.
- 10:29Speaker 3: If he was a free agent in the year, yeah,
- 10:32Speaker 3: go ahead.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Uh, pre agent for next year maybe, but not two
- 10:36Speaker 4: more years of control. So he wants to build around
- 10:39Speaker 4: Soriano and Dept. Meers even at Dell, even though he's
- 10:43Speaker 4: a free agent after next year.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Uh, you know, and so hold on to him. Maybe
- 10:48Speaker 3: things change. But yeah, they would get a haul for Debtmers.
- 10:52Speaker 3: And I asked around. I said, who will get more
- 10:54Speaker 3: in a trade? Dept.
- 10:55Speaker 4: Meers or Scoobo, And everybody says definitely Debtmers just because
- 10:59Speaker 4: you have the two and a half years left.
- 11:03Speaker 5: Control is huge. Matt Chapman. You reported about the Giants
- 11:07Speaker 5: hopeful they could trade Chapman, but you're also thrown in there,
- 11:11Speaker 5: Luisa Rise and Robbie Ray. Is it more likely just
- 11:15Speaker 5: because of their contracts that those guys or is it
- 11:17Speaker 5: more likely that Chapman because he's the most valuable piece
- 11:21Speaker 5: of those three that you mentioned?
- 11:24Speaker 4: Well, I think you know, Ray is definitely gone. You know,
- 11:27Speaker 4: he's a free agent in the year, you know, not like, uh,
- 11:30Speaker 4: he's insured to go back there.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Arise. I think would love to stay put. But he's
- 11:35Speaker 3: got value.
- 11:36Speaker 4: He's a good free agent signing, a great free agent
- 11:38Speaker 4: signing for the Giants, so he's got value. I think
- 11:40Speaker 4: those two they know and they're gone anyway, they're gonna
- 11:43Speaker 4: be free agents. So the big three money guys, they
- 11:47Speaker 4: realize that Chapman is the easiest guy of the three
- 11:49Speaker 4: to trade. I think impossible now with Devers, impossible with
- 11:55Speaker 4: a Damis then have to eat so much money in
- 11:58Speaker 4: both those guys where Chapman and you're able to move him,
- 12:01Speaker 4: you know, without a eating much salary at all. But
- 12:04Speaker 4: you know, he's had a strong last month and I
- 12:07Speaker 4: think people love his reputation personality as a gamer and grinder, that.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Sort of thing.
- 12:13Speaker 4: So I think they think it's easier to move Chapman.
- 12:16Speaker 4: That'd be a nice one hundred million dollars coming off
- 12:18Speaker 4: the books.
- 12:20Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 12:21Speaker 6: I play with Chappie in Oakland a little bit of time,
- 12:24Speaker 6: so seeing his name pop up, obviously, I know he
- 12:27Speaker 6: adds some value. And when I saw that, do you
- 12:30Speaker 6: see any teams that are real like front runners, that
- 12:32Speaker 6: are that he would really make sense for right now?
- 12:36Speaker 1: No?
- 12:36Speaker 4: I mean you would think if Boston was in the
- 12:38Speaker 4: race to be Boston, unless you know, they make a
- 12:40Speaker 4: trade and say you know what, we want to get
- 12:42Speaker 4: a Chapman for the future, that sort of thing. Now
- 12:44Speaker 4: he does have a no trade clause, so he can
- 12:47Speaker 4: pick and choose where he wants to go. Uh so
- 12:51Speaker 4: we'll see. I mean, so many people need a right
- 12:53Speaker 4: hand of bat. I mean, the Philadelphia Phillies would love him.
- 12:56Speaker 4: But you know, as you guys know, night and day,
- 12:58Speaker 4: playing from sim and Francisco compared to Philadelphia, you gotta
- 13:03Speaker 4: be ready to embrace that. I mean, aunt think that's
- 13:05Speaker 4: a tougher place to play in baseball than Philadelphia.
- 13:08Speaker 3: And some guys love it.
- 13:10Speaker 4: Some guys embrace I like Bryce Harper, and some guys
- 13:13Speaker 4: melt down from.
- 13:13Speaker 7: It experience that I love.
- 13:19Speaker 5: I loved it.
- 13:20Speaker 3: You love it?
- 13:21Speaker 7: I no, I did, I literally did. Yeah, you loved it.
- 13:25Speaker 3: There was no doubt.
- 13:26Speaker 5: It's just you don't play well in Philly. You're not
- 13:28Speaker 5: going home going. I don't understand why Philly doesn't like
- 13:31Speaker 5: my like me. No, you don't like yourself. Your kids
- 13:34Speaker 5: don't even really like you when you don't play well.
- 13:36Speaker 7: So it's.
- 13:39Speaker 3: I remember brace Harper was covered his first week of games.
- 13:42Speaker 4: You know, times a big contract, you're being philled up,
- 13:44Speaker 4: just going crazy I think it was Game four where
- 13:47Speaker 4: he started getting booed heavily.
- 13:48Speaker 3: It took it to only four games for him. Get
- 13:51Speaker 3: that Philly reaction.
- 13:53Speaker 5: As AJ says, they don't boo nobody's so if you are,
- 13:57Speaker 5: if you're a somebody, they're gonna boo you at home.
- 14:00Speaker 5: They're gonna boo you on the road because they have
- 14:02Speaker 5: high expectations. Bob, I want to go to the Astros.
- 14:05Speaker 5: The Astros said, no way, Jose, don't even ask us,
- 14:09Speaker 5: because we're buying at the deadline.
- 14:12Speaker 4: Yeah, teams have been quired and say, hey, you're gonna move.
- 14:15Speaker 4: Some of these guys were interested, and they said no. Hey,
- 14:18Speaker 4: you know, hey, look at the standings right now, they're
- 14:20Speaker 4: just three games back in the division, two games back.
- 14:23Speaker 3: In the wild card. I mean the furthest team back
- 14:26Speaker 3: is the Angels at seven and a half. The American
- 14:28Speaker 3: League is so down, like everybody's in it.
- 14:31Speaker 4: And you know, Jim Crane's as aggressive as an owner
- 14:34Speaker 4: as there is out there, and he said, as long
- 14:36Speaker 4: as I own a team, there will be no rebuild.
- 14:39Speaker 3: So they're going after this thing.
- 14:40Speaker 4: I think they say, you know what, if no one's
- 14:42Speaker 4: going to take the West, we'll go ahead and take it,
- 14:44Speaker 4: and they're getting guys coming back, you know, from the
- 14:46Speaker 4: injury list. So you know you mentioned talking about alb
- 14:50Speaker 4: Brazia for the home run derby. You know, scouts will
- 14:52Speaker 4: tell you they haven't seen a hitter this PUREBA hitter.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Since Barry Bonds.
- 14:57Speaker 4: They think he's that great and White waste time with
- 15:01Speaker 4: Alvarez when he can carry you by himself.
- 15:05Speaker 5: When you talk to these teams about and they make
- 15:07Speaker 5: comment or you hear these comments about no way, Jose,
- 15:10Speaker 5: do you feel like the teams are being intelligent when
- 15:13Speaker 5: they say stuff like that, because throughout this entire year
- 15:16Speaker 5: we've looked at the Astros and said they're a little short.
- 15:19Speaker 5: Even at the end of spring training. You're like, all right,
- 15:21Speaker 5: I get it, Hunter Brown's really good and Spencerrighetti could
- 15:24Speaker 5: be good, but they just looked like a team that
- 15:27Speaker 5: was short the whole time. Do you think that front
- 15:29Speaker 5: office is sitting there going, I get it, we're not
- 15:31Speaker 5: gonna rebuild, but man, if we could get something for
- 15:34Speaker 5: Jemmy Pana, that would be something that could really help
- 15:38Speaker 5: us not delve super into the free agent market, which
- 15:41Speaker 5: we didn't last season.
- 15:43Speaker 4: Right, But then that's you know they're saying, Okay, then
- 15:45Speaker 4: how about next year too? You still got him for
- 15:48Speaker 4: another year after this. I think ten teams have inquired
- 15:51Speaker 4: already about him and they have all been said, you know, no,
- 15:55Speaker 4: not now, maybe not not ever. I think too they
- 15:58Speaker 4: realize that, hey, they draw well, they probably are thirty
- 16:00Speaker 4: thousand fans a game.
- 16:02Speaker 3: You buy a season ticket, you buy it for the
- 16:04Speaker 3: eighty one home games.
- 16:05Speaker 4: You know, I'm giving a refund back because you're waving
- 16:08Speaker 4: a white flag at the trade down line.
- 16:10Speaker 3: So I think they take all that in effect.
- 16:12Speaker 4: I think they, you know, very cognizant of the fans
- 16:15Speaker 4: support pr aspect, and they know that fans would go
- 16:19Speaker 4: ballistic there if they just give up, particular when that
- 16:23Speaker 4: race is so wide open.
- 16:26Speaker 2: You know why you are enjoying this minute because we're
- 16:28Speaker 2: happy crats. We're happy because we're wearing Mac Weldon.
- 16:32Speaker 5: Yes, I'm six foot five and nobody can give me
- 16:35Speaker 5: tall clothing, but mack Weldon allows me to have it.
- 16:38Speaker 5: So I don't really have to care about how I look,
- 16:42Speaker 5: and I still look good because I don't put a
- 16:44Speaker 5: lot of time into what I do to pick out
- 16:46Speaker 5: my clothes. Mac Weldon takes care of.
- 16:48Speaker 7: It for me.
- 16:49Speaker 2: Classic always in style made from the world's most comfortable
- 16:52Speaker 2: performance materials. Summer, get sweaty, don't let unnecessary sweat spots emerge.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Mac Weldon's air Knit X fabric helps you out. Their
- 17:01Speaker 2: lightest fabric is fused with nylon mesh for maximum airflow.

- 17:09Speaker 2: keeps you feeling more dry and fresh. John sweat the
- 17:12Speaker 2: heat This summer feel as effortlessly.
- 17:14Speaker 7: Cool as you look.
- 17:15Speaker 1: With Mack Weldon.
- 17:16Speaker 2: Go to Mackweldon dot com and get twenty percent off
- 17:18Speaker 2: your first order of one hundred and twenty five bucks
- 17:20Speaker 2: or more with promo code foul. That's m A C
- 17:22Speaker 2: K W E L d O N dot com code
- 17:26Speaker 2: f ou L.
- 17:27Speaker 6: All right, I know we just talked Jordan Alvarez with
- 17:29Speaker 6: the Astros, and earlier we talked about him not participating
- 17:33Speaker 6: in the home run derby. Uh well what about Mike
- 17:35Speaker 6: Trout said he would be interested, if you know, invited.
- 17:39Speaker 6: Do you think that's a real possibility. Would have been
- 17:41Speaker 6: forty minutes from where he's from.
- 17:44Speaker 4: I think it is. Yeah, they were in Phoenix last
- 17:47Speaker 4: week an ast route. I said it is the last
- 17:50Speaker 4: time you've done the Horme Run derby. He goes to
- 17:52Speaker 4: never half and that was kind of stunned by that. Said, really,
- 17:54Speaker 4: I said, how about this time being your hometown. He goes,
- 17:57Speaker 4: I would definitely consider it.
- 17:58Speaker 7: He goes.
- 17:59Speaker 4: I bomb asked, consider it. I'm on the if I'm
- 18:02Speaker 4: my MLB, I don't hesitate. I go right to route
- 18:05Speaker 4: and say, we want you in the derby. I think
- 18:07Speaker 4: it would be fantastic, his first one, probably his last
- 18:10Speaker 4: one in his hometown. I think the fans would eat
- 18:13Speaker 4: it up. So I think fans would better seat as
- 18:17Speaker 4: great as Alba is. I think the fans in Philadelphia
- 18:20Speaker 4: much ratter say of Mike Croud in it than just
- 18:22Speaker 4: about anybody except for our homegrown guy.
- 18:24Speaker 3: It's like Harper, I just.
- 18:26Speaker 7: Need right, yeah right, didn't didn't he? Yeah? I just
- 18:31Speaker 7: needed to go.
- 18:32Speaker 6: I just thought about that. But I was like, if
- 18:33Speaker 6: he can be healthy, that would be pretty cool.
- 18:36Speaker 3: Yeah. And I don't think he'd be an the Angel
- 18:38Speaker 3: of this that long.
- 18:38Speaker 4: I mean, he played that whole game before he got
- 18:40Speaker 4: put on, so it's not gonna be a long lasting thing.
- 18:44Speaker 4: I remember when the Angels went back to Philadelphia the
- 18:46Speaker 4: first time. His entire town came out. I think he
- 18:49Speaker 4: had fifteen buses from Millville. It's just a forty minute
- 18:52Speaker 4: drive from his house. They had the you know, the
- 18:54Speaker 4: marching band in the field. The mayor from Millville was
- 18:57Speaker 4: in the first pitch, and it really younger the Philly
- 18:59Speaker 4: players like, what and now this is our home game,
- 19:01Speaker 4: not Mike trout home game. And he was laughing about
- 19:03Speaker 4: that the other day too, but they love Mike Trout
- 19:06Speaker 4: back East.
- 19:08Speaker 5: I was going to say, there'd be so many people
- 19:09Speaker 5: ever be so piss because it's gonna be Bryce Harper,
- 19:12Speaker 5: Kyle Schwarber and essentially a Philly in Mike Trout. But hey,
- 19:16Speaker 5: you know what, it's an exhibition. Get everybody out there.
- 19:20Speaker 5: That is what everybody wants to see, right Bob.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Oh, Absolutely, especially for a guy who's going to the Hall
- 19:25Speaker 4: of Fame one day. He's had some rough years at
- 19:28Speaker 4: the last four or five years with injuries. Just to
- 19:31Speaker 4: see him, I mean, he hasn't plenty of All Star games.
- 19:33Speaker 4: That's twenty nineteen, so that'll be special enough. But to
- 19:37Speaker 4: him to be in the derby, I think he might
- 19:39Speaker 4: be the crowd favorite. So you know what, let's see
- 19:42Speaker 4: something special. We've never seen before Mike Trout winning a
- 19:45Speaker 4: home run derby. He's done everything else in the game,
- 19:47Speaker 4: Why not that.
- 19:49Speaker 3: He needs some more hardware for sure?
- 19:51Speaker 5: Somebody that might be changing course the Red Sox. Can
- 19:54Speaker 5: you explain a little bit more into like, hey, you
- 19:57Speaker 5: know what Red Sox scouts are now being use a
- 20:00Speaker 5: little bit more. Does this have anything to do with
- 20:02Speaker 5: the fact that thiugh Epstein thinks scouting is actually important
- 20:07Speaker 5: and not just looking at numbers on a computer.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Yeah, it's kind of a before there was a thing
- 20:13Speaker 4: where they want didn't want scouts to take more than
- 20:15Speaker 4: one trip a month, just burke the cost savings and
- 20:17Speaker 4: flying out now all of a sudden this past week
- 20:20Speaker 4: and saying, hey, let's go see.
- 20:21Speaker 3: Some major league games.
- 20:23Speaker 4: Uh, you know, I think Craig Bruslow realizes, Hey, his
- 20:26Speaker 4: time could be coming near.
- 20:28Speaker 3: There's a lot of a pressure on him. The scouts.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Let's start going back to what they did they Dave
- 20:34Speaker 4: Dobrowski loves scouts, leaves and scouts.
- 20:37Speaker 3: They won a World Series with him that one in
- 20:39Speaker 3: one sense.
- 20:40Speaker 4: So uh, I think maybe Craig Bruslow was saying, let's
- 20:43Speaker 4: throw these guys out there.
- 20:44Speaker 3: I mean some of the top scouts.
- 20:46Speaker 4: I mean, the top teams in baseball all have the
- 20:49Speaker 4: most scouts, whether it's Tampa Bay, you know, the Dodgers,
- 20:53Speaker 4: you know the Yankees. Uh, the cant see royal sex
- 20:56Speaker 4: of off scouts, phillies in Uh.
- 20:58Speaker 3: You know they're about it.
- 20:59Speaker 4: You know, you can still use your analytics, but let's
- 21:01Speaker 4: have some rise on these players too, and those guys
- 21:04Speaker 4: that go to the games gets them inside information.
- 21:07Speaker 2: Yeah, it always seems like when some extreme measure holds,
- 21:11Speaker 2: the team usually corrects itself and starts to veer back
- 21:14Speaker 2: to more of a middle path. Here, just getting rid
- 21:16Speaker 2: of that whole department. It would be crazy while we're
- 21:20Speaker 2: on this team. Last one for you, Bob Sunny Gray.
- 21:23Speaker 2: It sounds like he already publicly said this weekend that
- 21:26Speaker 2: he would be open to a trade.
- 21:28Speaker 1: And I know that a.
- 21:29Speaker 2: Lot of his money is already being eaten up by
- 21:30Speaker 2: the Cardinals. So this could be a guy that is
- 21:33Speaker 2: heavily coveted around the trade deadline if the Red Sox
- 21:36Speaker 2: decide to sell. We've talked about or Aldis Chapman. It
- 21:39Speaker 2: doesn't seem like there are a ton of guys that
- 21:41Speaker 2: they would have. Maybe a bullpen arm or two like
- 21:43Speaker 2: Chapman and Whitlock Sonny Gray. I don't think they trade
- 21:46Speaker 2: Wilson Contrares because they have them for next year too.
- 21:48Speaker 2: But your thoughts on the Red Sox and how this
- 21:50Speaker 2: Sonny Gray kind of public open to things changes anything.
- 21:55Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it'd be you know, great for Gray too,
- 21:58Speaker 4: because I think you know him, to pitch back in
- 22:00Speaker 4: the in the playoffs I think would mean a lot
- 22:02Speaker 4: to him. I'm sure he'd love to get traded back
- 22:04Speaker 4: to Saint Louis for that matter.
- 22:06Speaker 3: I think you know obviously have don no train.
- 22:08Speaker 4: I think he would love to go to Atlanta, and
- 22:10Speaker 4: I think it'd fit right in perfectly with that whole
- 22:13Speaker 4: clubhouse culture everything else. I think Sonny Gray would be
- 22:16Speaker 4: very comfortable there. So I might have picked one spot,
- 22:19Speaker 4: you know. I know we talked about school before, but
- 22:21Speaker 4: how about Sunny Gray? And I don't think it would
- 22:23Speaker 4: cost that much to get him, And obviously those teams
- 22:26Speaker 4: have done a lot of deals before. I'm sure Boston
- 22:29Speaker 4: you know, will love to say we already gave you
- 22:31Speaker 4: Chris Hill, you know, how about Sunny Gray, but we
- 22:33Speaker 4: need some more back in return. This time He's got it.
- 22:36Speaker 4: You got to complete us once. Let's see what we
- 22:38Speaker 4: can make up for it.
- 22:39Speaker 7: Oh my gosh.
- 22:40Speaker 2: And he's from Tennessee by the way, so yes, I
- 22:42Speaker 2: mean that's Braves country for all intense purposes and went
- 22:45Speaker 2: to Vanderbilt and all that. But that would be funny
- 22:47Speaker 2: if you know the Braves are in the playoffs and
- 22:49Speaker 2: the rotation is just guys that the Red Sox gave
- 22:51Speaker 2: them for not much.
- 22:53Speaker 1: So tough times up in Boston, Bob, good stuff. Great
- 22:58Speaker 1: to catch up with you.
- 22:58Speaker 2: As always, we really appreciate Bob's note column is out
- 23:02Speaker 2: from yesterday.
- 23:03Speaker 1: There's much more that you can dive into there. Talk
- 23:05Speaker 1: to you soon, Bob.
- 23:06Speaker 3: All right, my pleasure. Thank good guys.
- 23:11Speaker 2: Oh I love starting injuries. Suck with a return Kratz.
- 23:14Speaker 2: That's what I like. I look for it. We dig deep.
- 23:17Speaker 2: We found one. Shane Bieber's coming back. Now, it was
- 23:20Speaker 2: supposed to be tonight. They had ran over the week
- 23:22Speaker 2: in the Pushman Back Night, so it's still in cease
- 23:24Speaker 2: Monday night and then Bieber returns for the Blue Jays Tuesday.
- 23:28Speaker 1: There's a few.
- 23:29Speaker 2: Teams that you watch and they get off to slow
- 23:31Speaker 2: starts and you're not worried about them. This is one
- 23:33Speaker 2: for me, Kratz. They were pretty slow starting last year.
- 23:36Speaker 2: They dealt with many more arm injuries this year. I
- 23:39Speaker 2: think Vladdie's gonna eventually start swinging the bat well. But
- 23:42Speaker 2: Bieber helps, and you know what, if anything with what
- 23:45Speaker 2: he's dealt with in his career, you get half a
- 23:47Speaker 2: season of Bieber, it's probably going to be a fresher Beaber.
- 23:51Speaker 5: I hope that this Biaber is not the every other
- 23:54Speaker 5: start Bieber that we had last year, and I think
- 23:56Speaker 5: that's why they took it as long as they did.
- 23:59Speaker 5: It wasn't even throwing spring training. So if he's back
- 24:02Speaker 5: and he can be the Bieber consistent, you know, three
- 24:05Speaker 5: out of four starts consistent, that would be massive for
- 24:09Speaker 5: this team that still needs to figure out how to
- 24:10Speaker 5: score runs.
- 24:12Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I don't. I don't disagree.
- 24:15Speaker 6: Obviously, injuries suck, but Cratzy obviously playing the game. We
- 24:19Speaker 6: all know guys played through injuries, and you mentioned in
- 24:23Speaker 6: him taking a little bit more time to come back.
- 24:25Speaker 7: I'm with you.
- 24:25Speaker 6: Maybe that was just a situation where he's like Man
- 24:28Speaker 6: World Series last year, Game seven, like, hey, if we
- 24:31Speaker 6: plan on getting back there, I got to make sure
- 24:32Speaker 6: I'm completely good to not be that every other day
- 24:34Speaker 6: or every other star guy. So as soon as you
- 24:36Speaker 6: said that, that was the first thing that popped in
- 24:38Speaker 6: my head was, you know, making sure every precaution to
- 24:40Speaker 6: make sure that when he goes out there, you know
- 24:42Speaker 6: that he's good to go.
- 24:44Speaker 2: You know, you know what else helps guys having a
- 24:46Speaker 2: five man rotation. I mean, I know on your show
- 24:49Speaker 2: Bucco Territory, Josh, you guys covered a lot with with
- 24:53Speaker 2: the surplus that they had and how that created a
- 24:56Speaker 2: little bit of drama.
- 24:57Speaker 1: Most teams have the.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Opposite effect, where there's a bullpen game every fifth or
- 25:02Speaker 2: sixth day. So that's what the Blue Jays have been
- 25:03Speaker 2: rolling with, right because they've had and almost all of
- 25:06Speaker 2: their guys have been on the IL at some point.
- 25:08Speaker 2: But right now, you know, they're rolling with cease. Now
- 25:12Speaker 2: Bieber comes back and that's going to give him a fifth.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Patrick Corbin who started off well but now hasn't been
- 25:18Speaker 2: pitching as well lately. Treya Savage is there, Kevin Gossman
- 25:22Speaker 2: is there, So now they've got five. Before that, you're
- 25:24Speaker 2: rolling with four and then you're exhausting the bullpen at
- 25:26Speaker 2: least once a week, so that in general to me
- 25:29Speaker 2: often helps, right, we know how that'll kind of help
- 25:32Speaker 2: to solidify things and not have guys all thinking they're
- 25:35Speaker 2: going to have to unload every you know, whatever amount
- 25:38Speaker 2: of games.
- 25:40Speaker 5: That's yeah, that's where I'm worried. I'm worried. I'm worried
- 25:42Speaker 5: about the the bullpen for this team because they were
- 25:45Speaker 5: running through this stretch of three times through rotation because
- 25:49Speaker 5: Dylan Cees doesn't go deep because Bieber's I'm assuming not
- 25:52Speaker 5: going to be able to go that deep, and they
- 25:55Speaker 5: just found out this weekend Trey Savage goes through. They
- 25:58Speaker 5: tried to push them a fourth time through which he's
- 26:00Speaker 5: ever done. It just feels like they have to have
- 26:04Speaker 5: reinforcements for that bullpen because this rotation besides Gosman doesn't.
- 26:10Speaker 7: Really go that deep.
- 26:13Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean, you spoke it right there, and that's
- 26:17Speaker 6: why the flip of the coin of you know, if Bieber,
- 26:20Speaker 6: you don't really want him coming back and feeling like
- 26:22Speaker 6: he's got to go seven eight at one hundred plus pitches,
- 26:25Speaker 6: But at the same time, you need him to be
- 26:27Speaker 6: healthy to give that bullpen a blow because those guys,
- 26:30Speaker 6: as you mentioned, as you mentioned have been pretty text.
- 26:34Speaker 2: So Bieber had Tommy John surgery in April of twenty
- 26:38Speaker 2: twenty four, right, and the injury officially has been called
- 26:42Speaker 2: elbow inflammation for him, which has kept him out for
- 26:45Speaker 2: you know, a few months so far this season. If
- 26:48Speaker 2: you actually add up his starts at the beginning of
- 26:50Speaker 2: twenty twenty four, it's nine starts from twenty four through now, right,
- 26:55Speaker 2: because you missed twenty four. He came back pretty late
- 26:58Speaker 2: in twenty five, then pitched in the playoffs. I'm talking
- 27:00Speaker 2: about nine regular season starts and now he's about to
- 27:03Speaker 2: make his debut.
- 27:04Speaker 1: So he has not pitched much.
- 27:05Speaker 2: And this was a big thing Kratz we talked about
- 27:07Speaker 2: in the offseason when he opted back in and he
- 27:10Speaker 2: loves Toronto, but also he's still been dealing with things.
- 27:14Speaker 2: You know, not everybody bounces back completely from Tommy John
- 27:17Speaker 2: surgery ever, or at least not the way that they
- 27:19Speaker 2: used to. Look, we're seeing that with Spencer Strider right
- 27:21Speaker 2: now for sure. With Atlanta.
- 27:24Speaker 5: Yeah, he can't get right. And Bieber knew this. No
- 27:27Speaker 5: way anybody opts in just because they loved the culture,
- 27:31Speaker 5: like he knew this, And I think it's a smart
- 27:33Speaker 5: move be healthy for half the year, and the Blue
- 27:36Speaker 5: Jays built the or tried to build their rotation to
- 27:39Speaker 5: mimic that he had no attempt to make it back
- 27:42Speaker 5: in spring training because I don't think the.
- 27:44Speaker 3: Blue Jays needed that.
- 27:45Speaker 5: And here they are, they're in striking distance and now
- 27:48Speaker 5: they need to solidify a solid wildcard spot.
- 27:53Speaker 7: Krats.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Mint Mobile plans still just fifteen bucks a.

- 28:52Speaker 1: Let's forge a few others.
- 28:54Speaker 6: Oh, go ahead, Josh, yet No, I was just going
- 28:55Speaker 6: to say for him familiarity or to organization dealing with injury.
- 28:59Speaker 7: He doesn't have to go to a new team. They
- 29:00Speaker 7: already know where he's at.
- 29:01Speaker 6: So, like you said, it's not necessarily to city of Culture.
- 29:04Speaker 6: But if I'm going to take some time out, let
- 29:06Speaker 6: me do it with a train of staff that has
- 29:07Speaker 6: already been with me.
- 29:09Speaker 7: Mm hmm.
- 29:09Speaker 2: Hey, you could make the same case for Justin Berlander
- 29:12Speaker 2: kicking it back old school with the Tigers. But he
- 29:14Speaker 2: hasn't pitched yet, and we were about to see him.
- 29:17Speaker 2: We thought we were going to see him this weekend,
- 29:18Speaker 2: and he got a setback and it's going to be weeks.
- 29:21Speaker 2: So that's the next one we'll hit here. He was scratched.
- 29:23Speaker 2: He was supposed to pitch on Sunday. It's a left
- 29:25Speaker 2: hamstring injury that was after he threw a bullpen on Wednesday,
- 29:30Speaker 2: And yeah, they're saying weeks and the quote here from him,
- 29:34Speaker 2: of course, is depressing if you're you know, a player
- 29:36Speaker 2: that's trying to get back on the field and really
- 29:39Speaker 2: a Hall of Fame player trying to get back on
- 29:40Speaker 2: the field and at least do one more season. Here
- 29:43Speaker 2: he said, quote, I've always said I want to play
- 29:45Speaker 2: until the wheels fall off, and I don't know, maybe
- 29:48Speaker 2: they are falling off, So Josh, you get to that
- 29:52Speaker 2: point in your career where Also, because he's had trouble
- 29:55Speaker 2: staying on the field, he's shown us flashes. The next
- 29:58Speaker 2: offseason here, chances that he gets a major league deal
- 30:02Speaker 2: start to get pretty low unless he goes off in
- 30:04Speaker 2: the second half when he comes back. But yeah, it's
- 30:08Speaker 2: been tough to keep him on the field.
- 30:09Speaker 7: Now, Yeah, I mean that's that's the nature of the sport.
- 30:12Speaker 6: And I think anybody that plays this game you wish
- 30:16Speaker 6: you could play to the wills fall off, because it's
- 30:18Speaker 6: much you'd much rather, you know, take the jersey off
- 30:20Speaker 6: yourself than somebody having to take it off for you.
- 30:22Speaker 7: You only get to play this game for you know,
- 30:24Speaker 7: as long as you.
- 30:25Speaker 6: Can and you know, a lot of that comes with acknowledgment,
- 30:28Speaker 6: and he said maybe they are falling off.
- 30:30Speaker 7: He didn't say they are, but he's acknowledging that.
- 30:32Speaker 6: You know, his body's not what it once was, and
- 30:36Speaker 6: you know, sometimes you weigh the risk versus reward.
- 30:39Speaker 7: Is it really worth it?
- 30:39Speaker 6: And as you mentioned, he hasn't started this year. You know, yes,
- 30:43Speaker 6: it's sad to hear, you know, a guy going through
- 30:45Speaker 6: that because like man, we know what he is on
- 30:48Speaker 6: the mound when he's healthy, and what he's been for
- 30:50Speaker 6: the game for a long time, but you don't hearing
- 30:52Speaker 6: that is also a thing where he's coming to the
- 30:54Speaker 6: realization of you know, I got to listen to my body,
- 30:57Speaker 6: and you know he's doing everything he can to make
- 30:59Speaker 6: it as anybody would, but you know, sometimes your body's
- 31:02Speaker 6: gonna let you know.
- 31:03Speaker 7: And you know, I hope to see him back.
- 31:05Speaker 6: I won't say that he can't make it back, because
- 31:07Speaker 6: none of us really know, but we also know that
- 31:09Speaker 6: it's going to be tougher. Obviously, the older that you get,
- 31:11Speaker 6: the more warran tear that you put on your body.
- 31:14Speaker 5: I don't want to hear it. I don't want to
- 31:16Speaker 5: hear it. I don't want to hear any of that
- 31:17Speaker 5: from Verlander. No, the wheels aren't falling off. You're going
- 31:20Speaker 5: to be back. We need to see you back in
- 31:22Speaker 5: your last year here. But I need to know Jay, Hey,
- 31:26Speaker 5: did you did you run one of his no hitters
- 31:29Speaker 5: in like the eighth or ninth inning?
- 31:31Speaker 7: Oh? Man, it was the ninth inning with two outs.
- 31:33Speaker 7: I believe he.
- 31:34Speaker 6: Threw me six straight sliders I swung. I swung it
- 31:37Speaker 6: the first two. They was fifty four foot but you
- 31:40Speaker 6: know he was going for the no hitter. But yeah,
- 31:44Speaker 6: so I've had my battles with Verlander. Got nothing but
- 31:47Speaker 6: respect for you know, facing them. But uh, that's why
- 31:49Speaker 6: I was like, you know, to hear a guy like
- 31:51Speaker 6: that be realistic, is like he you heard me say,
- 31:55Speaker 6: He didn't say he said maybe you know, so there's
- 31:58Speaker 6: a little bit of that thought. But at the same time,
- 32:00Speaker 6: you know, I think everybody's just like man, if you
- 32:03Speaker 6: can finish strong and just you know, as you said,
- 32:06Speaker 6: being able to be back in Detroit. But yeah, yeah,
- 32:08Speaker 6: I got them. I'm sure Detroit didn't really enjoy that,
- 32:10Speaker 6: neither did he. But you know I was able to
- 32:13Speaker 6: break one up.
- 32:14Speaker 5: Wait, wait, you can't you yeah, I need you to
- 32:18Speaker 5: I need you to answer this. Jay. Hey, if you
- 32:20Speaker 5: leave a shred of doubt in your mind that maybe
- 32:23Speaker 5: you ain't making it back, how are you going to
- 32:25Speaker 5: make it back? You can't do that at twenty three,
- 32:26Speaker 5: let alone forty three.
- 32:28Speaker 7: For Verlander, Hey, I can't speak for him.
- 32:31Speaker 6: Maybe that's his way of telling everybody else to read
- 32:34Speaker 6: between the lines. You know, I can't speak for him
- 32:38Speaker 6: because me, I spent a lot of time on the
- 32:41Speaker 6: inter List.
- 32:41Speaker 7: I've had surgeries.
- 32:42Speaker 6: I had to make my way back, and I'll be honest,
- 32:44Speaker 6: not once did I ever say that I wasn't gonna
- 32:46Speaker 6: make it back. There were some times that was really hard.
- 32:49Speaker 6: But you know, I also wasn't how old is Verlander
- 32:53Speaker 6: forty three? I wasn't forty three at the time, you know,
- 32:57Speaker 6: So just just being honest, you know, forty three as
- 33:00Speaker 6: opposed to thirty three, thirty four to thirty five. Having
- 33:03Speaker 6: surgery is a little different. But I mean you're talking
- 33:06Speaker 6: about a picture. That's all he does is pitch, you know.
- 33:09Speaker 6: So I get it though. If I'm making my way back,
- 33:12Speaker 6: there's no way I'm saying I'm maybe making it back.
- 33:14Speaker 6: But at the same time, I think you do have
- 33:15Speaker 6: to be realistic, and maybe that was just him having
- 33:18Speaker 6: an out of body moment, not really realizing what he
- 33:20Speaker 6: was saying, but just being really honest.
- 33:24Speaker 1: Yeah, hey, and you get to that stage.
- 33:27Speaker 2: I mean, Kraty knows his body well at this point
- 33:29Speaker 2: and the bodies breaking down a little bit. As far
- 33:31Speaker 2: as being a major league pitcher, it's a fact, so
- 33:34Speaker 2: maybe it gives them a little extra motivation.
- 33:36Speaker 1: He's telling himself. They say that I'm done, but I
- 33:39Speaker 1: don't feel like I'm done. So we'll see if he
- 33:42Speaker 1: can come back for the Tigers.
- 33:43Speaker 2: They've needed him, but we'll see if the Tigers are
- 33:46Speaker 2: in a good spot by the time he comes back
- 33:48Speaker 2: to that's part of it.
- 33:50Speaker 5: He can't hit either, so no, the Tigers don't need
- 33:53Speaker 5: him that bad. They need any hitters.
- 33:58Speaker 1: I don't see that.
- 33:59Speaker 2: I don't think they'll be adding unless they go on
- 34:01Speaker 2: some crazy run the next couple weeks.
- 34:03Speaker 1: But we'll see. Let's go to the Al Central here.
- 34:06Speaker 2: This is a tough loss, even for a few games
- 34:08Speaker 2: because this team also is staring at cell mode. The
- 34:11Speaker 2: Royals lost Bobby Wood Junior. He hasn't played since Thursday,
- 34:15Speaker 2: Grade one MCL sprain.
- 34:17Speaker 1: That's bad. I mean, also, he's an MVP candidate.
- 34:21Speaker 2: If he's not the leader, he's certainly top three crats,
- 34:24Speaker 2: So you don't want to see Bobby go down for
- 34:26Speaker 2: a long period of time.
- 34:26Speaker 1: Plus it's the knee.
- 34:27Speaker 2: He's a guy who uses his speed and his agility
- 34:30Speaker 2: a lot.
- 34:31Speaker 5: Not great, No, definitely not great, especially when you're talking
- 34:35Speaker 5: about a team that has to crawl out of it somehow.
- 34:38Speaker 5: I don't think they're going to crawl out of it,
- 34:39Speaker 5: but they were kind of built to crawl it for
- 34:42Speaker 5: the last few years, and I thought this team was
- 34:44Speaker 5: going to do better. I think they're a playoff team. No,
- 34:48Speaker 5: but if you told me the American League was as
- 34:50Speaker 5: bad as it is, I would have said, the Royals
- 34:53Speaker 5: will figure out a way. The Royals will figure out
- 34:55Speaker 5: a way because they play good, great defense, they have
- 34:58Speaker 5: solid pitching, and the just they're just not winning games.
- 35:03Speaker 5: You know, for whatever reason, you can't lose an MVP.
- 35:05Speaker 5: He was my MVP candidate for the season, my MVP
- 35:08Speaker 5: pick for the season.
- 35:10Speaker 6: Yeah, that's that's a tough well loss, depending on how
- 35:13Speaker 6: long Because on our bucket territory, I think he was
- 35:16Speaker 6: when we did our preseason. I think he was my
- 35:19Speaker 6: pick as well, just for everything that he can do
- 35:22Speaker 6: for that team offensively and defensively.
- 35:25Speaker 7: But you mentioned around the knee mcl sprain.
- 35:29Speaker 6: Speed is a big part of his game, being on
- 35:30Speaker 6: his feet, you know, moving, being athletic is a big
- 35:33Speaker 6: part of his game. So obviously you're gonna listen to him,
- 35:36Speaker 6: but you're also gonna, you know, take your precautions just
- 35:38Speaker 6: to be really careful because you don't want to lose
- 35:41Speaker 6: him for any longer than really what.
- 35:43Speaker 7: You have to.
- 35:45Speaker 2: A couple more injuries. I'll just run through quick. Two
- 35:47Speaker 2: more from the weekend. Jack Lighter ankle impingement, so he
- 35:50Speaker 2: goes on the shelf. He'd been struggling a little over
- 35:52Speaker 2: his last couple starts, so that hurts for the Rangers.
- 35:55Speaker 2: They're built almost solely on pitching right now. I mean,
- 35:57Speaker 2: that's a run prevention team if therever one. Same with
- 36:00Speaker 2: their ballpark, so never helps. And then also Liam Hicks
- 36:05Speaker 2: placed on the injured list with the backstreenkrats. He's actually
- 36:08Speaker 2: one of the guys that basically nobody knows nationally the
- 36:11Speaker 2: lower backstrain for him, but he's been really good for
- 36:13Speaker 2: the Marlins. And the Marlins have been really freaking good
- 36:16Speaker 2: this month. They're playing their way back into some wild
- 36:19Speaker 2: card thoughts.
- 36:21Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean they're taking advantage of the teams that
- 36:23Speaker 5: are that are coming in a little bit of an
- 36:25Speaker 5: easier stretch. Yes, they're playing into that wild card. But man,
- 36:29Speaker 5: you can't lose a guy like this. To me, I
- 36:31Speaker 5: thought Hicks was supposed to be there, their one all
- 36:34Speaker 5: Star pick. But if they keep winning, maybe they get
- 36:38Speaker 5: more than one. Maybe they get but they have a
- 36:41Speaker 5: ridiculous catcher in I am totally blanking on his name now,
- 36:47Speaker 5: Mack who they brought up and Mack to me, I
- 36:51Speaker 5: think Joe Mack behind a dish is really helping change
- 36:56Speaker 5: some of this. I'm not saying Liam Hicks isn't very good.
- 36:58Speaker 5: I'm saying Augustas Ramirez getting sent down. I feel like
- 37:03Speaker 5: they have a tandem. Now, I'm sorry, Augustine, august Stine Ramirez,
- 37:10Speaker 5: we got sent down. I think this catching tandem has
- 37:13Speaker 5: really helped these pictures get the most out of them
- 37:17Speaker 5: because of what they're adding defensively, night in and night out,
- 37:21Speaker 5: no matter who's behind the dish.
- 37:25Speaker 2: Yeah, Marland's are on a fourteen and four run right now,
- 37:28Speaker 2: they've won four games in a row.
- 37:30Speaker 1: That a great weekend.
- 37:32Speaker 7: Yeah, just for them.
- 37:34Speaker 2: I think if they traded on their half game half
- 37:36Speaker 2: game out of a wild card spy right now.
- 37:38Speaker 1: Yeah, they're in it.
- 37:39Speaker 7: They're in it.
- 37:40Speaker 2: We'd love to see them out a little bit and
- 37:41Speaker 2: not subtract Sandy al Contra. I mean, this is why
- 37:44Speaker 2: you sign them up long term so you have them
- 37:46Speaker 2: for a season like this.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Will that actually happen? I don't know.
- 37:50Speaker 2: Hey, we talked about this with Bob Nightingale, but from
- 37:53Speaker 2: our crew, Sonny Gray said, quote, someone came to me
- 37:57Speaker 2: from the Red Sox and made a decision that's the
- 37:59Speaker 2: direction this team was to go. I would be open
- 38:01Speaker 2: for a conversation. Whatever happens from then, only time will tell,
- 38:04Speaker 2: but I would be open for a conversation. So to me,
- 38:08Speaker 2: very clearly, Jay, that means Sonny Gray down to get
- 38:12Speaker 2: traded to the right team. He's got the full note
- 38:15Speaker 2: trade class. You know, he let that go this offseason
- 38:18Speaker 2: to move from Saint Louis to Boston. Funny enough, the
- 38:22Speaker 2: Cardinals are Wildcard contenders, the Red Sox are not. But
- 38:26Speaker 2: like Bob mentioned, maybe he'll end up back on the Cardinals.
- 38:30Speaker 6: Yeah, you never know. As you mentioned, Sunny Band open
- 38:34Speaker 6: to conversations. Obviously, Boston's had a lot going on this
- 38:37Speaker 6: season with really kind of cleaning the house. And for
- 38:41Speaker 6: a guy that was you know, traded there mentioned as
- 38:44Speaker 6: you mentioned, wanting to you know, have a chance to
- 38:47Speaker 6: play in the playoffs, where he was thinking, you know,
- 38:50Speaker 6: what it was going to be is not what it is.
- 38:53Speaker 7: You know, He's like, you know what, I'm not.
- 38:55Speaker 6: Saying I'm jumping ship, but if there's an opportunity out there,
- 38:58Speaker 6: let's make it happen. Because uh got rid of the manager.
- 39:01Speaker 6: Then I just saw you know, obviously scouts going back
- 39:03Speaker 6: into the stands, which all things are you know, pointing
- 39:07Speaker 6: to it didn't turn out the way that it did
- 39:10Speaker 6: when he got traded. And it's not saying he's like,
- 39:13Speaker 6: oh I don't.
- 39:15Speaker 7: Like this place.
- 39:16Speaker 6: He probably I ain't saying he does or doesn't. But
- 39:19Speaker 6: for a guy that wants to win, has been some
- 39:20Speaker 6: places and it's not turning out to be what he
- 39:22Speaker 6: hoped what he waved his trade clause for. He wants
- 39:26Speaker 6: to add value somewhere
