- 0:07Speaker 1: What is up, EWU crew? Recently, more cold cases than
- 0:11Speaker 1: ever are being solved, but sometimes the long-awaited conclusion of
- 0:15Speaker 1: these cases can take surprising and bewildering turns. Today, we
- 0:21Speaker 1: are taking a deep dive into three solved cold cases
- 0:25Speaker 1: that have shocking and unexpected twists. Today's first case is
- 0:30Speaker 1: rather unusual and begins with a mystery that seems so
- 0:34Speaker 1: strange It could be straight out of a movie. But first,
- 0:39Speaker 1: we must set the stage. Likely born in 1937, Dorian
- 0:45Speaker 1: Corey was a drag performer and renowned dressmaker who graduated
- 0:50Speaker 1: from Parsons School of Design. During the 1960s to 90s,
- 0:56Speaker 1: Dorian created a name for herself in the Harlem drag
- 0:59Speaker 1: ball scene. Dorian had a difficult life, struggling with acceptance
- 1:05Speaker 1: while living in near poverty. But after years as a
- 1:09Speaker 1: veteran drag queen, Dorian began mentoring younger performers and offering
- 1:14Speaker 1: her support to her drag family through what she called
- 1:18Speaker 1: the House of Corey, a haven where all were accepted
- 1:23Speaker 1: and cared for. Dorian eventually appeared in the 1990 documentary titled,
- 1:29Speaker 1: Paris is Burning, where she spoke about the Harlem drag
- 1:33Speaker 1: scene and appeared in interviews as a witty and unflappable character.
- 1:39Speaker 1: In the film, Dorian remarks, everybody wants to make an impression,
- 1:44Speaker 1: some mark upon the world. Then you think you've made
- 1:48Speaker 1: a mark on the world if you just get through it,
- 1:51Speaker 1: and a few people remember your name. Little did Dorian know,
- 1:56Speaker 1: her name would be remembered. but likely not in any
- 2:00Speaker 1: way she expected. Tragically, in August of 1993, Dorian passed
- 2:07Speaker 1: away from complications due to AIDS at the age of 56.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Her friend, Lois Taylor, had taken care of Dorian during
- 2:16Speaker 1: her final days, but Lois had no idea that her
- 2:21Speaker 1: close friend and pillar in the drag community was hiding
- 2:25Speaker 1: a dark and disturbing secret. Despite being dead, Dorian's story
- 2:31Speaker 1: was about to take a shocking twist. In October 1993,
- 2:37Speaker 1: Lois and two friends went in search of the perfect
- 2:40Speaker 1: Halloween costume. As Lois had been planning on selling some
- 2:44Speaker 1: of Dorian's famed clothing from her years of performances, the
- 2:48Speaker 1: extensive wardrobe in Dorian's Harlem apartment seemed to be the
- 2:52Speaker 1: perfect place to look for costumes. Hunting through Dorian's closet,
- 2:58Speaker 1: they found countless feathers and sequins, but also something hidden
- 3:02Speaker 1: behind the racks of clothes. Within, Lois discovered a green
- 3:07Speaker 1: and plaid garment bag folded and abandoned on the floor.
- 3:12Speaker 1: Intrigued by what could be hidden within, she tried to
- 3:15Speaker 1: pull the garment bag from the closet, but found that
- 3:18Speaker 1: her 135 pounds couldn't lift whatever was within the bag. Undeterred,
- 3:25Speaker 1: Lois sought out scissors and began to cut into the material.
- 3:30Speaker 1: It isn't clear what Lois thought she would find, but
- 3:33Speaker 1: when a foul smelling puff of air escaped from the
- 3:36Speaker 1: garment bag, she deserted her efforts to see what was
- 3:39Speaker 1: within and called the police. Investigators collected the heavy and
- 3:47Speaker 1: stinking garment bag and slowly peeled back multiple layers. Below
- 3:52Speaker 1: the zipper were wrapped layers of a faux leather which
- 3:56Speaker 1: when cut away, revealed another layer of plastic. Tucked into
- 4:01Speaker 1: the layers were pull tabs from the tops of beer
- 4:04Speaker 1: cans that had been used in the 1960s and 70s.
- 4:08Speaker 1: When it was all finally cut away, police were met
- 4:12Speaker 1: with a gruesome sight, a mummified corpse. The mummified body
- 4:18Speaker 1: was curled into the fetal position, wearing only the tattered
- 4:21Speaker 1: remains of blue and white boxer shorts. The skin of
- 4:26Speaker 1: the corpse had turned splotchy purple and yellow, the ears
- 4:30Speaker 1: completely disintegrated, and there was a hole in the head
- 4:33Speaker 1: from a bullet. Residue on the corpse indicated that it
- 4:37Speaker 1: had been covered in baking soda, likely to help disguise
- 4:41Speaker 1: the smell of the putrefying body before being wrapped within
- 4:45Speaker 1: layers and then shoved into the garment bag. The body
- 4:49Speaker 1: appeared to have been hidden in the recesses of Dorian's
- 4:52Speaker 1: closet for a couple decades at least 15 years, but
- 4:58Speaker 1: likely over 20. Even though the corpse was decomposed beyond recognition,
- 5:04Speaker 1: the layers of plastic and faux leather had actually managed
- 5:08Speaker 1: to preserve the body's fingerprints. Luckily for investigators, the victim
- 5:13Speaker 1: had an extensive criminal record and they soon had a
- 5:17Speaker 1: name for the mummy in the drag queen's closet, Robert
- 5:21Speaker 1: Bobby Worley. Bobby had been born in December of 1938.
- 5:28Speaker 1: Not much is known about Bobby's life except for his crimes,
- 5:32Speaker 1: including his arrest in 1963 for assault, which he served
- 5:37Speaker 1: three years in prison for. Soon after his release, his
- 5:41Speaker 1: family lost contact with him and hadn't heard from him
- 5:44Speaker 1: at all since the late 1960s. Because of his past,
- 5:50Speaker 1: they weren't even sure that he was missing but he
- 5:53Speaker 1: seemed to have vanished into thin air. Any investigation into
- 5:57Speaker 1: Bobby's whereabouts went cold. By all accounts, there was no
- 6:03Speaker 1: plausible reason for Dorian and Bobby to have known each other,
- 6:07Speaker 1: nevermind a way to logically explain how Bobby ended up
- 6:11Speaker 1: dead and mummified in the closet of a stalwart drag performer.
- 6:16Speaker 1: Though the evidence appeared that it was likely that Dorian
- 6:19Speaker 1: had been the one to kill Bobby as she presumably
- 6:23Speaker 1: lived with his body in her closet for decades, no
- 6:26Speaker 1: one around the drag performer would have thought she was
- 6:29Speaker 1: capable of such a heinous crime. Theories about what happened
- 6:35Speaker 1: between the two swirled, and some who knew Dorian claimed
- 6:39Speaker 1: that she couldn't have been the one to kill him,
- 6:42Speaker 1: but was actually protecting the real killer. This theory includes
- 6:46Speaker 1: the fact that Dorian moved apartments in 1988, during the
- 6:51Speaker 1: period when Bobby's body would have already been mummified. Rather
- 6:56Speaker 1: than lugging a corpse undetected between apartments, this theory maintains
- 7:01Speaker 1: that Dorian moved into an apartment where the body already was,
- 7:05Speaker 1: and rather than call the police, she kept it a secret.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Another theory, one that is more believable, but still purely speculation,
- 7:15Speaker 1: is that Bobby may have attempted to rob Dorian, and
- 7:19Speaker 1: she could have ended up killing him in self-defense during
- 7:22Speaker 1: the ensuing struggle. Allegedly, Dorian had attached a note to
- 7:26Speaker 1: the body saying that, this poor man broke into my
- 7:30Speaker 1: home and was trying to rob me. But the existence
- 7:34Speaker 1: of this note was never verified. However, there is one
- 7:39Speaker 1: detail of Bobby's body that may be the hint to
- 7:43Speaker 1: the true nature of how Bobby and Dorian knew each other.
- 7:47Speaker 1: His body was found wearing only boxer shorts, and the
- 7:51Speaker 1: way that he was shoved into the garment bag led
- 7:54Speaker 1: investigators to believe that he hadn't been wearing other clothing
- 7:58Speaker 1: at the time of his death. Ruling out the chance
- 8:02Speaker 1: that he had tried to rob Dorian in only his underwear,
- 8:06Speaker 1: investigators came to the conclusion that the two could have
- 8:09Speaker 1: been in a tumultuous relationship, one that purportedly ended in
- 8:14Speaker 1: a crime of passion and Bobby being shot. There is
- 8:19Speaker 1: other evidence towards this theory, such as Dorian's semi-autobiographical story
- 8:24Speaker 1: about a transgender woman who killed her lover, which was
- 8:28Speaker 1: possibly written about her and Bobby. As well, before he vanished,
- 8:34Speaker 1: Bobby had reportedly called his brother while drunk and complained
- 8:37Speaker 1: about a fight with someone named Dorian. Though we may
- 8:42Speaker 1: never know exactly what could have motivated Dorian to allegedly
- 8:45Speaker 1: kill Bobby, and decide to live with his mummified corpse
- 8:49Speaker 1: for decades. Many theorists believe that Dorian had been the
- 8:53Speaker 1: one to take Bobby's life and got away with it
- 8:57Speaker 1: undetected during her lifetime. Our next case is no less tragic,
- 9:07Speaker 1: but filled with even more unexpected twists. Jerry Michael Williams,
- 9:13Speaker 1: who went by Mike, was born October 16th, 1969 to
- 9:18Speaker 1: dedicated and self-sacrificing parents. Mike's father was a Greyhound bus
- 9:24Speaker 1: driver while his mother worked at a daycare. Rather than
- 9:28Speaker 1: save their money to buy a house and move their
- 9:30Speaker 1: family out of the trailer where they lived, Mike's parents
- 9:34Speaker 1: saved all of their money for him and his brother
- 9:37Speaker 1: to attend North Florida's Christian High School in the hopes
- 9:41Speaker 1: that it would help secure their successful futures. Mike excelled
- 9:45Speaker 1: in school and went on to get an urban planning
- 9:48Speaker 1: degree from Florida State University. He was hired as a
- 9:52Speaker 1: property appraiser where he reportedly made $ 200, 000 a year and
- 9:55Speaker 1: married a woman named Denise Merrill in 1994. The two
- 10:03Speaker 1: had a daughter in 1999, seeming to fulfill his parents'
- 10:07Speaker 1: dreams for his prosperous future. In 2000, the couple was
- 10:12Speaker 1: planning more of their future together, discussing having another child
- 10:17Speaker 1: and even looking to take a family trip on a
- 10:19Speaker 1: Hawaiian cruise. However, not everything was as it seemed, and
- 10:25Speaker 1: soon Mike's idyllic life came crashing down. On Saturday, December 16th, 2000,
- 10:34Speaker 1: Mike woke up early to go duck hunting on Lake Seminole,
- 10:38Speaker 1: a reservoir between Florida and Georgia. Mike told his wife
- 10:42Speaker 1: he would be back midday so that the two could
- 10:45Speaker 1: celebrate their sixth wedding anniversary later that night. However, when
- 10:50Speaker 1: Mike didn't return by noon, Denise became worried and called
- 10:55Speaker 1: her father. She also called Mike's best friend, Brian Winchester,
- 10:59Speaker 1: a man who had initially been Denise's childhood friend before
- 11:03Speaker 1: he later became close with her husband. Brian and his
- 11:08Speaker 1: own father went in search for Mike, and after hours
- 11:11Speaker 1: of driving around Lake Seminole, They believed they located his
- 11:16Speaker 1: Ford Bronco at a remote boat launch at Jackson County.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Mike's boat was confirmed to be found by the Florida
- 11:24Speaker 1: Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, 225 feet from the boat launch.
- 11:30Speaker 1: But there was no sign of Mike. In the boat,
- 11:34Speaker 1: they found Mike's abandoned shotgun, but nothing that suggested foul play.
- 11:40Speaker 1: It was concluded that Mike's boat must have hit a
- 11:42Speaker 1: stump hidden below the water level, causing him to lose
- 11:46Speaker 1: his balance and fall out of the boat and into
- 11:48Speaker 1: the water. Search and rescue were deployed, but it was
- 11:52Speaker 1: quickly assumed that Mike had drowned when he fell from
- 11:56Speaker 1: the boat. When Mike's body never floated to the lake's surface,
- 12:01Speaker 1: as is typical for drowning victims, a search was conducted
- 12:04Speaker 1: to retrieve his remains from where it was believed to
- 12:07Speaker 1: have been caught along the lake bed. but his body
- 12:11Speaker 1: was never found. Investigators were forced to reevaluate their theory,
- 12:17Speaker 1: and they concluded that Mike must have been eaten by alligators,
- 12:20Speaker 1: with turtles and catfish eating whatever remains were left. Lake
- 12:25Speaker 1: Seminole was known to be a site with at least
- 12:27Speaker 1: 80 other deaths where the bodies were never found, and
- 12:32Speaker 1: so Mike was believed to be another victim of the
- 12:35Speaker 1: mysterious alligator-filled depths. During the search, Denise avoided the media,
- 12:42Speaker 1: but six months after Mike vanished, she had him declared
- 12:46Speaker 1: legally dead through a court petition. It was assumed that
- 12:50Speaker 1: Mike's body would never be found after his unfortunate accident.
- 12:54Speaker 1: After five years following her husband's tragic demise, Denise appeared
- 12:59Speaker 1: to have moved on when she remarried none other than
- 13:02Speaker 1: her and Mike's mutual friend, Brian Winchester. The two claimed
- 13:07Speaker 1: that they had grown close after Mike's death. Despite the
- 13:12Speaker 1: fact that most of Mike's loved ones had come to
- 13:15Speaker 1: terms with his passing, Mike's mother, Cheryl, was unconvinced that
- 13:20Speaker 1: her son had simply fallen from his boat and been
- 13:23Speaker 1: eaten by alligators. Her biggest clue was the fact that
- 13:26Speaker 1: Mike's hunting license had been found and bore no markings
- 13:30Speaker 1: of alligator teeth. Cheryl campaigned to have her son's case
- 13:34Speaker 1: reopened And with the help of officers who agreed that
- 13:38Speaker 1: Mike's death appeared suspicious, despite the lack of evidence of
- 13:42Speaker 1: foul play, his missing persons case was opened again in 2004.
- 13:46Speaker 1: The alligator theory was eventually thrown out once it was
- 13:51Speaker 1: realized that alligators rarely hunt during cold months. And as
- 13:56Speaker 1: Mike vanished in December, they wouldn't have been active to
- 14:00Speaker 1: eat his drowned remains. So where was Mike's body? Even
- 14:06Speaker 1: though investigators agreed that it seemed like Mike hadn't died
- 14:09Speaker 1: at Lake Seminole, they had no evidence to say what
- 14:13Speaker 1: had actually happened to him. His case was closed in
- 14:17Speaker 1: 2007 and declared cold, but Cheryl refused to give up.
- 14:22Speaker 1: For years, she campaigned, wrote letters, and lobbied to have
- 14:26Speaker 1: Mike's case once again reopened. During this same time, Denise's
- 14:32Speaker 1: life was once again tumultuous. as she and Brian were
- 14:36Speaker 1: separating in 2012 and divorced in 2015. The year following
- 14:42Speaker 1: their divorce, there was a shocking incident when Brian snuck
- 14:46Speaker 1: into Denise's car and threatened her with a gun. Brian
- 14:51Speaker 1: kidnapped her, claiming that she was ignoring his calls and
- 14:54Speaker 1: that he had never wanted to get divorced. Luckily, Denise
- 14:59Speaker 1: managed to calm him down and escape, immediately heading to
- 15:03Speaker 1: the police to report what had happened. When Brian was
- 15:07Speaker 1: brought in for questioning, a shocking twist was revealed. According
- 15:12Speaker 1: to his friend, Brian had been concerned that after the divorce,
- 15:16Speaker 1: Denise would start talking about, quote, this guy who died
- 15:20Speaker 1: 10 or 12 or 15 years ago. It was then
- 15:24Speaker 1: revealed in court documents that before Mike died, He and
- 15:28Speaker 1: Denise had taken out a $ 1 million life insurance policy
- 15:32Speaker 1: through none other than Brian, whose occupation was as an
- 15:36Speaker 1: insurance agent. Brian was soon sentenced to 20 years for
- 15:41Speaker 1: kidnapping Denise. But the very next day, it was announced
- 15:45Speaker 1: that Mike's remains had been discovered by search dogs buried
- 15:49Speaker 1: at the end of Gardner Road in Northern Leon County,
- 15:53Speaker 1: only five miles from where he had grown up. On
- 15:57Speaker 1: May 8th, 2018, Denise was arrested and charged with first
- 16:02Speaker 1: degree murder, conspiracy to commit first degree murder and accessory
- 16:07Speaker 1: after the fact. During an extensive trial, it was revealed
- 16:12Speaker 1: that Brian and Denise had reportedly been having an affair
- 16:16Speaker 1: through much of her marriage to Mike. Online reports detailed
- 16:21Speaker 1: their secretive romance. They had apparently attended a Sister Hazel
- 16:26Speaker 1: concert in 1997 and made their first step across the
- 16:30Speaker 1: line by sharing a kiss while both of their loyal
- 16:33Speaker 1: and oblivious spouses were out in the parking lot. In
- 16:38Speaker 1: the following years, Brian explained in his testimony at his
- 16:42Speaker 1: trial that the two would sneak away to have private
- 16:45Speaker 1: meetings and getaways. Reportedly, the reason Brian eventually left his
- 16:50Speaker 1: wife was to pursue a committed relationship with his new lover, Denise.
- 16:57Speaker 1: During his trial, Brian discussed the allegation that he and
- 17:00Speaker 1: Denise had conspired Mike's death so that the two of
- 17:04Speaker 1: them could get married. As part of his testimony, Brian
- 17:09Speaker 1: emotionally confessed to the following. On the day Mike died,
- 17:14Speaker 1: Brian had gone with him to Lake Seminole, where he
- 17:17Speaker 1: pushed him off of the boat. But when he didn't drown,
- 17:21Speaker 1: Brian shot him with his own shotgun. Brian also claimed
- 17:25Speaker 1: that it was allegedly at Denise's insistence that he later
- 17:29Speaker 1: bury Mike's body. In February of 2019, Denise was sentenced
- 17:36Speaker 1: to life in prison for the death of her husband,
- 17:39Speaker 1: which was overruled in January, 2020, as there was no
- 17:43Speaker 1: physical evidence linking her to Mike's death. Her conspiracy to
- 17:48Speaker 1: commit murder charge was upheld, however, and so she will
- 17:52Speaker 1: be in prison for 30 years. Though Brian confessed to
- 17:58Speaker 1: killing Mike in court, it has been reported that he
- 18:01Speaker 1: did so in exchange for immunity in this case. This
- 18:05Speaker 1: means that although he is serving his sentence for the kidnapping,
- 18:08Speaker 1: it is reported that once those 20 years are completed,
- 18:12Speaker 1: he will walk free. Despite this, It seems that Cheryl's
- 18:17Speaker 1: mother's instinct was right all along, and she has finally
- 18:21Speaker 1: seen some justice for her son. Today's last case is
- 18:33Speaker 1: a chilling story filled with mystery and unanswered questions. Born
- 18:39Speaker 1: on November 14th, 1974 in Hawkinsville, Georgia, Tara Faye Grinstead
- 18:45Speaker 1: grew up to be regarded as a beautiful and loving
- 18:48Speaker 1: person by all who knew her. She was known for
- 18:52Speaker 1: her huge radiant smile and being a committed friend. At
- 18:57Speaker 1: age 25, Tara competed in a pageant and won the
- 19:01Speaker 1: title of Miss Tifton in 1999, as well as the
- 19:05Speaker 1: chance to compete in the Miss Georgia Beauty Pageant. More
- 19:09Speaker 1: than just a pretty face, Tara used her winnings from
- 19:12Speaker 1: pageants to pay for her college degree, where she pursued
- 19:16Speaker 1: her passion in education. After completing a master's degree studying education,
- 19:23Speaker 1: Tara became a history teacher at Irwin County High School
- 19:27Speaker 1: in Osceola in 1998. It was in this position that
- 19:31Speaker 1: Tara flourished. She loved her students and was committed to
- 19:36Speaker 1: helping them achieve their dreams. Her students were said to
- 19:39Speaker 1: love her back as they could feel that she sincerely
- 19:43Speaker 1: cared for them. But sometimes it seems that tragedies strike
- 19:48Speaker 1: against those who deserve it. the least. 30 year old
- 19:53Speaker 1: Tara spent the afternoon of October 22nd, 2005, helping the
- 19:58Speaker 1: young girl she mentored get ready for an upcoming beauty pageant,
- 20:02Speaker 1: as she often did. Later that afternoon, she attended a
- 20:07Speaker 1: barbecue before heading home around 11 p.m. No one heard
- 20:12Speaker 1: from Tara after this, but as she lived alone, no
- 20:16Speaker 1: one thought too much of it. That is, until she
- 20:19Speaker 1: didn't show up on Monday morning to teach her history class.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Because of her dedication to her job, this was highly strange.
- 20:29Speaker 1: It was well known that Tara would always show up
- 20:31Speaker 1: for her students, and that if she couldn't be in class,
- 20:35Speaker 1: she would have at least contacted a substitute. Her concerned
- 20:39Speaker 1: friends went in search of her. At her home, her
- 20:43Speaker 1: car was found in the driveway and cell phone in
- 20:46Speaker 1: the house, but her purse and keys were nowhere to
- 20:49Speaker 1: be found. There were no signs of what had happened
- 20:53Speaker 1: to Tara beyond her alarm clock being thrown under the bed,
- 20:57Speaker 1: and her bedside lamp was broken and knocked over. Investigators
- 21:02Speaker 1: discovered a latex glove near Tara's front stoop and collected
- 21:06Speaker 1: DNA evidence from the item. And though they could tell
- 21:10Speaker 1: it had been a man who wore the glove, they
- 21:12Speaker 1: couldn't match a name to the DNA sample. Hundreds of
- 21:17Speaker 1: tips came in about Tara's whereabouts, but none ever led
- 21:20Speaker 1: to finding her. It appeared that Tara had simply vanished.
- 21:27Speaker 1: The small community was rocked by Tara's disappearance. And for years,
- 21:31Speaker 1: no one could explain what had happened to the caring teacher,
- 21:35Speaker 1: and none could understand who would want to hurt her.
- 21:39Speaker 1: In 2008, three whole years after Tara vanished, her case
- 21:43Speaker 1: was featured on 48 Hours Mystery, where it was speculated
- 21:48Speaker 1: that her disappearance was similar to another woman's, Jennifer Kesey,
- 21:52Speaker 1: who went missing in Orlando, Florida. It was later ruled
- 21:57Speaker 1: that the two weren't connected. In 2009, a video surfaced
- 22:02Speaker 1: where a man proclaimed himself the Catch Me Killer, a
- 22:06Speaker 1: serial killer who claimed to have killed 16 women, including Tara.
- 22:12Speaker 1: It was revealed to be an elaborate hoax created by
- 22:15Speaker 1: Andrew Haley, who lied about everything in the video in
- 22:18Speaker 1: a bid for fame. Tara was officially declared dead in 2010.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Even after years without a single lead, Tara's case was
- 22:30Speaker 1: called the case that has never gone cold because tips
- 22:33Speaker 1: continued to come in for over a decade. But the
- 22:37Speaker 1: reality was the case had been cold since the day
- 22:41Speaker 1: she vanished. It wasn't until 2017 that the first real
- 22:46Speaker 1: lead was uncovered. A woman named Brooke Sheridan went to
- 22:51Speaker 1: the police and told them that she thought her boyfriend
- 22:54Speaker 1: had a dark secret. It took her months of pestering
- 22:58Speaker 1: him to tell her what he was hiding from her
- 23:01Speaker 1: before he finally confessed. Brooke's boyfriend, Bo Dukes, apparently admitted
- 23:06Speaker 1: to her that his roommate, a man named Ryan Duke,
- 23:10Speaker 1: no relation between them, had woken up one morning and
- 23:14Speaker 1: told him something shocking. Bo alleged that Ryan had told
- 23:19Speaker 1: him that he had accidentally killed Tara Grinstead. In a
- 23:24Speaker 1: shocking twist, The two boys had actually attended the high
- 23:27Speaker 1: school where Tara taught and Bo had even been Tara's student.
- 23:32Speaker 1: Bo reportedly told his girlfriend that Ryan had allegedly been
- 23:35Speaker 1: burglarizing Tara's home on the night that she vanished. And
- 23:40Speaker 1: it is said that when she returned, she surprised him
- 23:43Speaker 1: in the act. Bo reportedly claimed that Ryan told him
- 23:48Speaker 1: he was startled and that he had then purportedly strangled
- 23:51Speaker 1: her on her bed. Interestingly, Other reports claim that Ryan
- 23:56Speaker 1: simply broke in and found Tara already on her bed
- 23:59Speaker 1: before he allegedly proceeded to attack her. Regardless, he reportedly
- 24:05Speaker 1: told Bo he had used Bo's truck to move her
- 24:07Speaker 1: body to a pecan orchard that Bo's family owned. Supposedly,
- 24:13Speaker 1: Ryan had used Bo's truck and family's orchard in order
- 24:17Speaker 1: to implicate him in his alleged crime. It is reported
- 24:22Speaker 1: that after telling Bo what he'd done, Ryan asked for help.
- 24:26Speaker 1: According to court documents, others overheard them claiming they had
- 24:30Speaker 1: purportedly burned Tara's body in a fire pit in order
- 24:34Speaker 1: to get rid of the evidence. It apparently took two
- 24:38Speaker 1: days for her body to burn enough to be unrecognizable
- 24:42Speaker 1: before they are believed to have buried her remains in
- 24:44Speaker 1: the orchard. Online sources report that bone fragments were indeed
- 24:50Speaker 1: later found when this area was searched. To this day,
- 24:54Speaker 1: there is some speculation that Bo may have been part
- 24:57Speaker 1: of the robbery at Tara's house and that he possibly
- 25:00Speaker 1: played a much bigger role in her death than being
- 25:03Speaker 1: only an accessory after the fact. But for now, there
- 25:08Speaker 1: is no evidence to support this theory. Ryan Duke was
- 25:13Speaker 1: charged with Tara's murder. and Beau was charged with helping
- 25:16Speaker 1: to cover up a murder and sentenced to 25 years
- 25:19Speaker 1: in prison. Ryan Duke is currently awaiting his trial after
- 25:24Speaker 1: it was initially delayed and has not yet been convicted.
- 25:27Speaker 1: These three cold cases serve as reminders that sometimes the
- 25:33Speaker 1: passage of time is all that is needed to reveal
- 25:37Speaker 1: long hidden secrets. And that sometimes when cold cases are
- 25:42Speaker 1: finally solved, they can have shocking twists.
