- 0:01Hello, folks, this is Princess, you are listening to the
- 0:04millennial Mustard Seed, pod casts.
- 0:06Thanks for listening. Don't forget to share with your
- 0:09friends. I stopped wearing a very tough
- 0:12spot. I think that what we're doing
- 0:15right now is a great benefit and virtue because it's an
- 0:19end-around between this whole corrupt informational system
- 0:24media system. We claim to believe in a God who
- 0:27spoke the universe into existence and literally raised
- 0:30himself from the dead. And yet, we're not going to
- 0:34believe that anything else exists in the spirit realm, even
- 0:37though his word tells us that they do, Their bodies weren't
- 0:41permitted to go to sleep, like, humans do, and they weren't
- 0:45permitted to go to heaven. So they wander the Earth, you
- 0:49know, I've seen the eyes turned black to unknown tongues being
- 0:53spoken. These Giants were love way up
- 0:56with all the upgrades, the young man behind have been the trees.
- 1:01The way for one of these 12 quarters to come walking down
- 1:04the back and he would jump on Dragon back.
- 1:15Then people start to get weapons, they start to get
- 1:17armor, they start to build cities they still supported by
- 1:19their cities. Now God looks down and there's
- 1:22violence everywhere. The battle this war that we are
- 1:26at is not against each other. It's against these
- 1:29principalities in these rulers in, these are cons in high
- 1:32places. It's really worthwhile to read
- 1:34the Bible. A beer is one of the primary
- 1:38drivers of mind control because we have to take every thought
- 1:42captive and resist. You're going to have a testimony
- 1:49that is a Justice case against the kingdom of darkness.
- 2:09Welcome back to the millennial Mustard Seed pod cast, I have an

- 4:40Welcome back to the show everybody.
- 4:42I have an excellent guest here. Mike, welcome to the show and
- 4:47thank you so much for being here.
- 4:49Happy to be here. Why don't you just let me in the
- 4:51audience? Know a little bit of your
- 4:53testimony, your background kind of how you found your calling
- 4:57and what you're doing, okay? How you became a Christian.
- 5:00I'm 57 now became a Christian was 14, my reading the book of
- 5:03Revelation of all things. It's a long story that I won't
- 5:07get into everything, but my mother had sent me a Bible for
- 5:10my 14th birthday. I was living with my grandmother
- 5:12at the time in Illinois. My mother was here in
- 5:14California. Well, my brother's house going
- 5:16to Joint, my mother had moved out here.
- 5:18And I was going to join them the following year and I ended up
- 5:23reading the Bible, one night just house board.
- 5:26Actually, and I was reading through the Book of Revelation
- 5:28and God just used it to imprint upon my heart that these things
- 5:31are real and I end up accepting him into my life that night
- 5:35about 2:00. O'clock in the morning, all by
- 5:37myself. So I became a Christian and did
- 5:40just had an insatiable desire to start reading the Bible.
- 5:42Nobody told me to do that. It was just the which kind of
- 5:46shows me the work of the holy spirit that I just had this
- 5:49desire to read the Bible. So I began reading primarily at
- 5:52that time. The Book of Matthew and I just
- 5:54started reading through the back with a book of Matthew became my
- 5:57favorites me over and over and then right after that, I had
- 6:01some dreams. I read the story of Joseph, and
- 6:06I kind of knew that there were some things going on that God
- 6:08can speak to you through dreams, but I really wasn't used to any
- 6:11of that. So, I had this dream and make a,
- 6:15long story short, the dream I knew was calling me to
- 6:18leadership. I didn't know what type of
- 6:19leadership at the time I had this dream where I was in the
- 6:24dream, I was in this Cavern, which to me, I took to be like
- 6:27hell, And on the other side and I, when I look down to this,
- 6:32this crevice this, this we're just, it was like a crevasse
- 6:36separating one side from the over the other and I saw my
- 6:39friends and teachers and it was like they were in this fire,
- 6:42this molten lava and so I we were doubting me and some other
- 6:48people were battling these demons.
- 6:50And I just remember in the dream, I said something like for
- 6:54the, for the glory of the Lord, for the sake of the Lord, and I
- 6:56leaped across this cabin and there was a sword.
- 6:58In my hand. And so I started you know in the
- 7:02enemy was on the other side and in the dream he was like don't
- 7:05let him get to me. Don't let him get to me.
- 7:06And I woke up and I was like, what the heck was that?
- 7:09I wouldn't told my teacher, the next day about this dream and my
- 7:14teacher said well, I don't know if my teacher at the time was a
- 7:16Christian or not. But he said your I think this
- 7:19means you're called the leadership and I was like, yeah,
- 7:22I thought I was like, whoa, so I end up moving to California when
- 7:27I was 15. I was going in. 15 years old, I
- 7:29was pronounced breed praying and reading my Bible every day and I
- 7:33just knew that I was called into Ministry.
- 7:35I didn't know what type of first and so I just kind of thought
- 7:38I'll just going to be a Bible teacher.
- 7:39Like I'd saw a television, I travel around and just teach the
- 7:42Bible. So I start studying the Bible as
- 7:44much as I could trying to learn as much as I could.
- 7:47And, you know, knew I was called into Ministry.
- 7:50I would teach Bible studies. I remember, we would have, we
- 7:53lived in these apartments in Upland.
- 7:56California, I'm in Southern California and And I we were,
- 8:01you know, we're in these apartments and we would I would
- 8:04pass out tracts to the kids and the apartments.
- 8:06We would bring them over to our home.
- 8:08We would have Bible studies and we witness to and led to the
- 8:12Lord. Every kid in that apartment
- 8:14complex, you know. I don't know how much of that
- 8:16would stay, but, you know, but we they would come and he would
- 8:19stay. And I would not, I knew very
- 8:20little about the Bible. I was watching people on TV and
- 8:23then repeating what? I heard them say, and that's how
- 8:25I started. Had become plagiarism but I
- 8:30didn't, but I don't like it. I'm just teaching a Bible, but I
- 8:34was doing that and I knew it was called in a friend of mine.
- 8:38She said you're called the pass. I would oh no, I don't ever want
- 8:41to be a pastor new. No, no, no, that's one thing I
- 8:43didn't want to be at the no, no, I just want to travel around and
- 8:46teach the Bible but years, later idea could call into the
- 8:50pastorate. And I in doing all of that, you
- 8:55know, in a course of time, when I knew I was called at 15.
- 8:58I said I'm going to seek God. I'm going to prepare for
- 9:01Ministry so I decided this was just my decision but I believe
- 9:05it was. It was the Lord's leading.
- 9:06I decided not to date. I thought I'm not going to day.
- 9:09I was 15. I thought board at, for some
- 9:11something said, you need to get prepared, which, I believe is.
- 9:14Holy Spirit, you need to prepare for Ministry.
- 9:16So I thought I'm going to spend my time getting focused on
- 9:19preparing to do to fulfill my call.
- 9:22So I just, I didn't date. I prayed, I studied, that's my
- 9:25life, was that praying and studying?
- 9:27So I didn't do anything. 18. At the time, I have to say
- 9:30Frank, praying studying the comic books.
- 9:32I was looking for my three cats don't like table books to this
- 9:36day, but I didn't date. And I just, I guess I left it in
- 9:41the hands of Lord. I said, you know, Laura what I
- 9:42like, you know what? I don't like.
- 9:44I'll trust you and I believe he spoke to me and said, if you let
- 9:47me pick for you, I'll pick for you.
- 9:49Someone better than you could ever pick for yourself.
- 9:51So this is 15 fast forward. I'm about getting ready to turn
- 9:5621 and I meet Eat, who was the the lady who was going to be my
- 10:01wife, Karen, she we met and we both hit it off.
- 10:05We were friends for about a year.
- 10:07There's a whole story to that, which I won't get into, but we
- 10:10got, we end up getting married, three years later and so, I've
- 10:14been married. We've been, we've been together
- 10:16thirty-seven years. We've been married. 34 would be
- 10:1935 this year. So yeah, we've been very for a
- 10:22while. But in the midst of that, you
- 10:25know, we did we started a church and I was, you know, Pastor and
- 10:29we were pastoring in leading people.
- 10:31And there are always small fellowships.
- 10:33And I have been in Ministry because I used to travel like,
- 10:35to go to New York and Minister, and it was kind of fulfilling
- 10:38that dream. I never wanted to be a pastor, I
- 10:40remember the one when they walk into my bedroom, this is before
- 10:42I got married and God just dropped in my heart to Shepherd
- 10:46his sheep. I never had a desire for that
- 10:49and I just II distinctively. Remember, walking into the
- 10:53bedroom walking across the room, all sounded just like link clue
- 10:56and I went yeah II just had this love and concern and care for
- 11:00God's people into want to Shepherd them.
- 11:03Not just going in deliver a message and leave you know.
- 11:06And so I knew that's what the Lord had called me to do and and
- 11:11so we did that for a while we actually should Pastor the
- 11:13church. Called our first church was
- 11:15burying Christian Fellowship because in the midst of that,
- 11:19what happened was two things. That was significant that I was
- 11:24involved in a particular week. I had a charismatic background
- 11:26noise belong to a particular group And I began to see the
- 11:29some of the things we were teaching.
- 11:30We're not right. Mmm.
- 11:32And so I started doing research, you know, and I had heard a
- 11:37minister on television scholar would said, if you're going to
- 11:40study the Bible, especially if your city, the New Testament,
- 11:43you need to understand it in its original cultural historical
- 11:47context, and he said, for the Bible That's first century
- 11:51Judaism. So I thought.
- 11:52Okay, so I need to understand something about first century
- 11:55Judaism and so that's what I did to do.
- 11:58Someone just brought me water so I began I start I realized that.
- 12:06Okay if I need to own understand the Bible because I saw that
- 12:09some of the Theology of what I have been taught.
- 12:14I said this is not solid theology.
- 12:16You know we need to bet when that my thinking was we need to
- 12:19be better in our theology. We need to have a better
- 12:20theological foundation so I started to study something out
- 12:24for the most part it was trying to prove that what I had been
- 12:27taught was right and You're correct.
- 12:29Some things. The more I studied the more I
- 12:32saw old man. What what I've been taught was
- 12:33wrong. This is not right.
- 12:36But we made it, you know, my wife and I we slowly came out of
- 12:38that and I found a mentor who began teaching me the name of a
- 12:42doctor, William being, and he became my mentor for the next 25
- 12:45years in biblical studies. Well, and he had started a
- 12:48school for pastors who wanted to go back to school and get their
- 12:51degree. So I end up studying her knee
- 12:53him for a few years, then I end up going and end up getting a th
- 12:57D from his school. Cool.
- 13:00A doctor of Theology and my focus was on understanding the
- 13:03Bible and its cultural context of the degree was a degree in
- 13:06first century Christianity in his Jewish context.
- 13:09I got my masters and doctorate through him.
- 13:12And my focus also was on Paul. I was trying to understand Paul
- 13:17in the, in his Jewish context because everybody else was
- 13:21studying Jesus, and his context and understanding that the
- 13:23jurors the gospels like, what about Paul?
- 13:25So, I became the Paul guy in our group.
- 13:28Oof and as long as it's not, my passion was for Paul and it
- 13:32still is. I love the Apostle Paul, if he's
- 13:34just phenomenal, the way he was used of God but in the midst of
- 13:38that at one point and I need a back up just a little bit.
- 13:43So my wife and I got married. I was 23.
- 13:46She was 22. We were 12 weeks into our
- 13:51marriage. My wife comes to me and says, I
- 13:54hate being married. I don't want to be married
- 13:57anymore and I don't want to have physical intimacy sex with you
- 14:02anymore. The reason why is because my
- 14:04wife had been severely abused as a child.
- 14:08She had been sexually abused. You've been emotionally abused,
- 14:10physically abused. And so what, we didn't know, at
- 14:14the time, I'm 23, she's 22. We had no knowledge to the
- 14:18shoes, experiencing PTSD. So I showed what she said to me
- 14:22later. What she says, when you reach
- 14:23for me, I didn't see your hand. I saw the hand of all the People
- 14:27who abuse me. So we had that in our marriages.
- 14:29Our first year of marriage, there is 12 weeks after we have
- 14:32been married. Then I had a fear that I had
- 14:37since I was 16 years old and it was growing, it was and it was a
- 14:41tormenting fear in my mind, it had kind of kind of kind of
- 14:44gotten installed because of something that I was told at a
- 14:46church meeting and a prayer meeting, and it opened up the
- 14:50door for the devil to plant this thought in my mind that created
- 14:54fear and I would have been struggling with this is I was
- 14:5616. I was Now 23 going on 24 and it
- 14:59was growing and I did everything rather than you to do.
- 15:02I prayed I faster. Over evil, I rebuke the devil.
- 15:05He wouldn't buek, I bind the devil, I lose the devil.
- 15:07I did everything that I could do to do and I couldn't get any
- 15:12relief from the fear. So one day, I'm 24 years old is
- 15:17about a year into our marriage. We're dealing with this with my
- 15:19wife, she doesn't want to be touched.
- 15:21I would reach for my wife to be intimate.
- 15:23She would just clench up, and just draw her hands to herself
- 15:27and just clench up really tight like, in a ball.
- 15:29And she because she didn't want to be touched.
- 15:31She was having PTSD flashbacks, which again, I did know.
- 15:34And she didn't know what it was. So this is all going on.
- 15:39I went to God. I said, God, we know number one.
- 15:41I don't I want to be married to her.
- 15:43I don't know what to do. And I got this fear that I'm
- 15:47struggling with and the first thing we saw I'm sitting down
- 15:51reading my Bible and a nephew is growing.
- 15:53I said Lord what do I do? I've done everything I know to
- 15:56do it and that day, I happened to be in Reading in Romans
- 15:59chapter 12 where it says be transformed by the renewing of
- 16:02your mind. I'm reading that verse and the
- 16:06Lord speaks to me through that verse and I hear you need to
- 16:09renew your mind and I said to God, I thought I haven't My
- 16:14mind. I've been a Christian for 10
- 16:16years. I pray every day.
- 16:17I read my Bible every day. If I have been renewing my
- 16:19that's all I heard was you need to renew your mind, nothing else
- 16:22will say. So I said, okay, God, if you're
- 16:25saying I need to renew my mind I thought I was evidently I
- 16:28haven't teach me how to renew my mind.
- 16:31And that began a journey of trying to understand about my
- 16:35mind about emotions. And that's really how it started
- 16:39because of what I was struggling with and also with what my wife
- 16:41is struggling with because you know, we have that going on with
- 16:44the abuse that she was, you know, still dealing with.
- 16:48And she would pry, it should go. It's not you it's not you and I
- 16:51would think to myself it has to be me.
- 16:53I'm the only one here, you know, you know, but it wasn't me.
- 16:57It was he was what she was struggling with.
- 16:59So I was asking God for Answers people have often often say,
- 17:03well, why didn't you guys go to counseling?
- 17:04And I jokingly, but seriously say I do black people don't go
- 17:08to counseling. It's that's on why people do.
- 17:11But people think coming down slowly, but it's also true in
- 17:16the black community. There was a stigma for going to
- 17:18counseling. However, that's not why I didn't
- 17:20go. It was, it never occurred to me
- 17:23to go to counseling. It just, it wasn't on my radar.
- 17:26That's not what we did in our community.
- 17:28So I didn't. I was so we, I Only thing I knew
- 17:31to do, I prayed, I said God, what do I do?
- 17:34So little by little and I'm going to share the story.
- 17:37I began learning about the mind, I began learning about emotions.
- 17:40At first, I was reading all the Christian books, I could read
- 17:44and I hate to say, they weren't much help because I was asking,
- 17:50God questions about emotions. And most of the Christian
- 17:53literature, I was reading at that time because this is an we
- 17:58were married in 88. So this is like 89 90.
- 18:01Most of the Christian literature at that time was like, well
- 18:04there's not much you can do about your emotions, you just,
- 18:07you got to make the right decisions.
- 18:09Seek to think the right thoughts, do the right behaviors
- 18:13and eventually your emotions will catch up.
- 18:16So the response towards emotions was one of passivity in terms of
- 18:20the what I was reading the Christian literature.
- 18:22I even have a book today in my library, where the guy basically
- 18:27says, there's not much you can do about him and this is a
- 18:29famous Christian. What we do in the mind and he
- 18:34basically says, I think, what I mean fan is, it was well-known.
- 18:37And the guy said, and by the way, I do, when I say this, I'm
- 18:40not trying to put him down everybody, I believe.
- 18:43Now everybody's doing their best to help people.
- 18:45So his view was, there's not much you can do about your
- 18:47emotion, you provide the Forum in God will fill it and by that
- 18:52he means, amen, let's say you have a trouble loving.
- 18:55Well, you just act lovey. Make the decision to act, loving
- 18:58and God will fill your heart with love.
- 19:01Eventually, and I always like to say the teaching was God.
- 19:05God will somewhere down the line.
- 19:07Your emotions will catch up. We don't know when we don't know
- 19:10how but eventually they will catch up that wasn't helping me.
- 19:14I was tormented by this fear, I would try to do that and the
- 19:18fear would take over people with it.
- 19:20Well, you got to trust God. You got to do it by faith.
- 19:21I try that. And that fear just would be so
- 19:24powerful. And so, the more I start
- 19:27learning. Wow, I started to recognize that
- 19:30we We lack wisdom when it came to deal with our emotions are
- 19:34starting to study about the my now starting to see things that
- 19:38and at the same time I was starting to study the Bible.
- 19:41And I believe this was the plan of God.
- 19:42So while I'm starting to study about the mind and emotions, I'm
- 19:45also studying the Bible in his historical and cultural and
- 19:48linguistic context. So I'm going deeper into the
- 19:51scriptures, looking at things in Greek, and Hebrew and the
- 19:53culture of the day, what I'm learning because I had to go, I
- 19:56had to step outside my Christian books and I start reading books
- 20:00on psychology. Elegy.
- 20:01I start reading books on Neuroscience which were I came
- 20:04from. That was kind of a taboo at the
- 20:06time. It's like, no, no, no.
- 20:07You just stick with the Bible. You stick with Christian books
- 20:10and if you outside of that was, it was, it was considered taboo.
- 20:14So I was reading these things, but I was seeing things and I
- 20:19would go back. I'm leaving.
- 20:19This is what I just learned over here about what this word heart
- 20:23actually means in Hebrew, and this word has to do with the
- 20:26emotions. So it was parallel paralleling
- 20:29each other and I was Days. And it will, I think it's the
- 20:32grace of God that I was learning these things in parallel because
- 20:36I have to say, I was scared. I was like, I don't know if this
- 20:39is right or not what I'm starting over here in psychology
- 20:41stuff, but then I'm reading stuff in my biblical studies,
- 20:44you know, doing more advanced studies, more deeper studies and
- 20:47their parallel in each other and I believe God used that to bring
- 20:51me along. So I start applying what I was
- 20:53learning to myself and I can't tell you when it happened.
- 20:57One day, I looked up and I realized that Fear was gone.
- 21:03It was completely gone. I don't even remember when it
- 21:05left, I just knew I was no longer tormented in my mind that
- 21:08it was directly cause of what I learned about the emotions of
- 21:11learning, how to renew my mind. Then what happened is my wife
- 21:16started because I start teaching these things that are little
- 21:19Fellowship, you know, and just didn't know as much as I do now.
- 21:23But I was sharing what I knew, people start applying it or my
- 21:26wife started applying it and she started to find Freedom And 37
- 21:32years later. You know what, 34 years later in
- 21:35terms of marriage, we're still together people.
- 21:37You know, because I always jokingly said he was a.
- 21:38Well, did you guys ever overcome that I go?
- 21:40Well, we got, you know, three daughters.
- 21:42So yeah, we overcame I said, but it was the grace of God leading
- 21:48us and guiding us. Step-by-step my why I always
- 21:50tell people, my wife is my hero because I know what she
- 21:53overcame. I know that obstacle she's to be
- 21:55depressed every day. Almost every day, is she would
- 21:58cry. Because of what she was feeling,
- 22:01she felt like she was a bad wife.
- 22:02She felt like she was a bad Keeper of the house and
- 22:05everything. She just felt horrible but it
- 22:07was, it was all that stuff. So she started finding Freedom.
- 22:10Then friends of mine would come over and in these, are people in
- 22:14the ministry and they would go home.
- 22:16And I'm just struggling with stuff.
- 22:17And what I found Rod was a lot of people spend.
- 22:20Even ministers were secretly struggling with the emotions,
- 22:24like, I was struggling, but nobody knew it and we were all
- 22:28kind of keeping a front of Or people faith.
- 22:30And we believe God and we believe his word, but privately
- 22:33they're struck, they were struggling.
- 22:35So I started one of my friends came over one day and I said,
- 22:38well, and by the way, I was reluctant to share what I knew
- 22:41because again, I'll still like, I don't know.
- 22:43This is completely gotten on finding Freedom.
- 22:45My wife was like, I don't know what you're afraid of.
- 22:48I'm free. I could care less what other
- 22:49people say. She's that way to this day?
- 22:52Well, I gotta make sure that everything is biblical.
- 22:53So, I'm, you know, I'm doing my research and my one of my
- 22:57friends came over, he was struggling.
- 22:59So I shared something with him. I said we'll try this and see if
- 23:02this works. He comes back about a week, two
- 23:04weeks later. He goes, oh my, he's a man that
- 23:06Set Me Free. You got anything else, you know?
- 23:09And so that little by little, I started sharing with people and
- 23:13people were telling me, they were finding Freedom, we were
- 23:15teaching at at our church and I think the real turning point for
- 23:20me came, when a friend of mine, who's a pastor Pastor, Willie
- 23:23Estrada, really good friend of mine.
- 23:26He is pastoring a church at the time called by his Irit
- 23:29fellowship and Willie. And I would meet, we would meet
- 23:31on a regular basis for breakfast and we would, you know, keep in
- 23:34one. Another accountable, we would
- 23:36share our frustrations and stuff and he goes, what are you
- 23:38teaching on? I thought I've been doing this
- 23:40series at our church on. Renewing the mind he goes.
- 23:43Hey, can you come to my church and teach on that?
- 23:45I said, sure. So I went to his church after 13
- 23:48weeks. I taught on renewing the mind
- 23:50and the very first night I start, and I'm teaching things
- 23:53that a lot of people had never heard of before, because I'm
- 23:55talking about the mind, the emotions Neuroscience, you know,
- 23:59And I say, I when I was teaching someone said to me and my focus
- 24:05was on how to how to renew the mind.
- 24:09Not just telling people what to do, but telling them how to do
- 24:11it. Because I, that's one thing, I
- 24:13always struggle with our bike, you know, we're always hearing
- 24:16sermons about what we're supposed to do, but we're not
- 24:18really told how to do it. Like, you gotta forgive, well,
- 24:21how do you forgive? You know, you get a little, how
- 24:23do you love? And usually the answer was, what
- 24:25you trust God. Okay.
- 24:27So then I'd ask, well, how do you trust God?
- 24:28God. So the these things kick, you
- 24:31know, and no one really gave me when they when I would hear the
- 24:35answers. It was not a how-to was more of
- 24:38what to I'm going. That's not a how to answer.
- 24:41So I started focused on how specific steps.
- 24:44You could take. That would create a changing
- 24:46your mind and your emotions. And what ended up happening was,
- 24:49I was teaching it one night. The first night, I was teaching
- 24:52at my friends church, one of the guys in the service I'll never
- 24:56forget him exam discuss, he still a friend of mine today and
- 24:58he's Says, you know, I asked me if I was asking for feedback but
- 25:01at this point I was also a professional.
- 25:04I do corporate training for organizations and so one of the
- 25:08things we do is ask for feedback and I said saying that have any
- 25:10questions or anything? And someone said, I just got a
- 25:13comment and say, yeah, he goes, you know, I have to tell you all
- 25:16my life. I've been taught to renew my
- 25:18mind as a Christian I've been told to renew my mind.
- 25:21This is the first time. Someone has told me how And when
- 25:25I heard that at that, exact moment, I felt this is what I'm
- 25:31supposed to do was that moment when he said that I was like, it
- 25:37was like it was like time kind of froze for just a moment.
- 25:39It's like this is why you're here.
- 25:42The corner. This is why you're and I was it
- 25:44was, it was a transforming moment for me because I went
- 25:47home that night thinking, I have to teach people how to do this.
- 25:50I have to teach more people, how to renew their minds.
- 25:52I've got to teach people how to deal with their emotions, so
- 25:54that's what my wife, we end up starting an organization called
- 25:57the center for Christian training and development.
- 26:00And our goal is to help people to understand the Bible better,
- 26:04and its historical and cultural context and to teach people how
- 26:08to renew their minds and manage their emotions.
- 26:11So that's in a nutshell. I said a lot there, but that's
- 26:14how we got started. That's powerful.
- 26:18I'll just take it. A journey with you're saying
- 26:19stuff. I had to mute the mic.
- 26:22This is something that I find is not, well, talked about, and
- 26:28even if they talk about it, that step by step process, you're
- 26:31referring to, like, how does that actually translate?
- 26:33Like, when we read scripture, perfect?
- 26:35Love casts out, fear. God says all these times the Old
- 26:38Testament do not fear. Do not be afraid but yet we have
- 26:41Generation of people. Yes.
- 26:43Riddle didn't fear. Yeah.
- 26:45And one of the things I have in my notes here just that I wanted
- 26:48to ask you about because I had dr.
- 26:50Laura Sanger own, a few different times over the last
- 26:53like year and a half and I know we did an episode on marriage
- 26:56and she, I talked about how her husband he was taught by his
- 26:59parents. Like when you get these little
- 27:01arguments or, like fights or something like that, that he
- 27:03would actually like humble himself, he will pray.
- 27:06And then he would with a soft touch at the same time, just say
- 27:10like generally I'm sorry. Yeah, and like there was like
- 27:13this way that he taught her to connect it more than just like,
- 27:17oh, I'm sorry, roll your eyes and walk away, because the body
- 27:19language was saying, I'm not really sorry and a lot of the
- 27:22times we messed up from the world.
- 27:24What is the step by step process look like to overcome the
- 27:28plethora of different information that we have to read
- 27:32from? But how does it translate into
- 27:34actual process? I heard it said by somebody
- 27:39else, that if we're in a state of Here, right?
- 27:42Like I think it's the amygdala or they called the reptilian
- 27:45portion of the brain is responsible for like the fight
- 27:48or flight and if we're in. Yeah.
- 27:51That's that's what's now it's kind of big that's being seen as
- 27:54kind of the old model of the brain matter of, oh, this book
- 27:57right here, how cold, how emotions are made its by dr.
- 28:01Lisa Feldman, Barrett Chief because he says, yeah that old
- 28:04model doesn't work anymore. Oh wow.
- 28:07Well whoever yeah we do we construct the emotions.
- 28:13There's there's a there's a change going on.
- 28:15How we understand how the brain works.
- 28:17When. Yeah, there are parts of the
- 28:19brain where we construct, one of the things she argues that I've
- 28:22taught for years. She says we construct.
- 28:24Our emotions is not so much that your emotions.
- 28:26Get housed in a certain part of your brain is that we construct,
- 28:30our emotions, and this is actually what I've taught from
- 28:34more of a, not, a neuroscientific perspective, but
- 28:37from a more psychological perspective, I would teach
- 28:39people. I said, well, you construct your
- 28:40emotions and We talked about how emotions are constructed.
- 28:44And if you understand the structure of emotions, once you
- 28:47understand the components that make up your emotional
- 28:49experience, then you can change the components and change your
- 28:51emotion experience. That's D does deep.
- 28:55Let me say that was the question.
- 28:56You're going to ask me because I interrupt, you know, I'm
- 29:00learning. This is why I have the podcast.
- 29:03We're capturing the the experience I had written down
- 29:08that when we are operating in fear.
- 29:11Over a long period of time. It can actually lower our immune
- 29:14system, make us more susceptible, like it can like,
- 29:16dampen are just natural healthy State.
- 29:19Yeah. And emotions was that was
- 29:21interesting. Yeah.
- 29:22There is a book written two years ago called molecules
- 29:24molecules of the Mind by dr. Candace, pert, the late dr.
- 29:28Canus /. She's passed on.
- 29:29One of the things that she said is that emotions are the Nexus
- 29:33between Mind and Body. In other words, what connects
- 29:36mind and body is emotion. And so one of the reasons we
- 29:41decide well what you think and can impact your body but not
- 29:44without emotion. And so when you think of certain
- 29:48way, you're feeling certain emotions, it's going to impact
- 29:50your body. There is a study done by dr.
- 29:54Barbara Fredrickson dr. Barbara Frederick.
- 29:56And she she's a psychologist and she won an award called the
- 30:01Templeton prize for the her Broad and built theory of
- 30:03emotion. And you can make this all up.
- 30:06She was the first one who did research and actually did the
- 30:10study to show that. When you are in certain
- 30:12emotional states, it will impact your thinking, it can impact
- 30:17your body. It can cause you when you're
- 30:18when you're in, what we call - I don't normally use this term to
- 30:21when you're in negative emotional states, like fear,
- 30:24okay? It can cause your your awareness
- 30:27to constrict you don't have access to all of your resources.
- 30:31We do know that speak stress, which fear Anger, all those
- 30:35things can become under stress. It can suppress your immune
- 30:38system because when you're in those emotional states is
- 30:41releasing certain neural chemicals into your body.
- 30:43Like cortisol cortisol, which if you got too much of that
- 30:47released, it can dampen your immune system.
- 30:52You see the book behind me? Deep book here called, emotional
- 30:55success is written by another Doctor, dr.
- 30:57David this Tonneau he talks about Doing doing things with
- 31:03wait, what they call grit or pure willpower Marissa's, doing
- 31:07them with the writing motion. And what he saw that, he cites a
- 31:12study where and it goes to your point again, or question where
- 31:17they looked at African-American children in low-income
- 31:20neighborhoods who are working hard, educational wise.
- 31:24They were studying, they were pushing themselves.
- 31:26They did well in school, but it was causing deteriorate distress
- 31:30was causing deterioration. Of their cells.
- 31:34So, what you're saying is, right?
- 31:36It's been shown that. Hey, certain emotional states,
- 31:38if you stay in the long term, what we call negative emotions
- 31:41that are that we normally call negative emotions.
- 31:45There's a reason I referred in the emotions as - we can get
- 31:48into that. But if you experience them over
- 31:50time, consistently, it can start to impact your, your DNA, it can
- 31:57start impacting. What your how, you know, your
- 32:00immune system you can suppress your immune system.
- 32:03So Us can make you sick, stress can literally make you sick
- 32:07anger. It can impact the heart and
- 32:08everything else. And they're also saying where
- 32:11the reverse is true, gratitude can strengthen the immune
- 32:14system, you know? So when we see things you so
- 32:18gratitude Happiness joy, what we call the positive emotions,
- 32:21those can have a nurturing effect upon your physical
- 32:26well-being as well as your mental and will be are.
- 32:30All right, so my mind is doing a lot of really awesome thing.
- 32:33Right now listening to you. I like this a lot in Japan to
- 32:37stop me in any type of, I'll just start rolling.
- 32:39It's like there's no Clarity of choice when we're operating in
- 32:44fear, right? If this a fearful mindset,
- 32:47there's no Clarity of choice. It's it is restricting like it.
- 32:51Like, even as I was listen to you say that, I'm like, yeah, if
- 32:54we're fearful, it's very restricting.
- 32:55We don't see like, well, hold on, let me slow down and think
- 32:58this through and oh, well this is what's going on here and if
- 33:02I'm feeling fearful, maybe I need to To re-evaluate and
- 33:05actually see what level of severity I should move forward,
- 33:08right? But that takes a sound mind and
- 33:13I believe that that comes from God.
- 33:15So it what it takes a sound mind, which I do believe is a
- 33:19gift of God, and it along with that.
- 33:22It takes training. There's a verse of scripture in
- 33:26first Timothy believe. His first, Timothy 4:8, were the
- 33:30Apostle Paul writes to Timothy. He says, basically, it's like
- 33:36physical exercise profits for a little while.
- 33:39Yeah. But godliness, you know, and
- 33:41what he says is exercise, yourself rather unto godliness,
- 33:44the word in Greek, for exercise. Gugu nods 0 is literally train
- 33:49yourself. Repeating Gallery like, yes and
- 33:53the word for train in Greek, refers to the training, the mind
- 33:56and body. Wow.
- 33:59So as Believers, I read a book a long time ago, I believe it was
- 34:03by John ortberg, I don't remember the name of it but he
- 34:06said that he said that that as Christians what we need to do.
- 34:10And I so love this quote, he said so often.
- 34:12We try so hard to be better Christians.
- 34:16He says we don't need to try harder.
- 34:18We need to train better. Wow.
- 34:22And so, a lot of reasons, one of the reasons that we struggle so
- 34:25much is that we do not train our mind and emotion.
- 34:30One of the, when I, when I went, when I was a, my friend that I
- 34:34told you about dr. Pastor Willie.
- 34:36Estrada, I end up becoming an assistant pastor at his church
- 34:39for about. We went there for about seven
- 34:41years and while I was there, I became an assistant pastor and I
- 34:45did a message one Sunday called how to train your emotions.
- 34:50Mmm and and I think it's either I have it right here.
- 34:54I used to have it sitting on my I don't have it.
- 34:57It's somewhere on my desk here but I have the original tape
- 35:00from that it was flying from years ago.
- 35:02Like my oldest daughter is 29 almost 30.
- 35:06She was I think she was like 9 when I didn't that message.
- 35:10So I still have the original Direction.
- 35:12How long ago it was it's on cassette tape.
- 35:14Okay but I did that message on how to train and Show them.
- 35:20I say your emotions can be trained now.
- 35:23I was saying this at a time when most people didn't think that
- 35:26way about their emotions and they did believe it.
- 35:29But I showed from scripture as a you can, we can train our
- 35:31emotions and I also was quoting the scientific literature.
- 35:36And I said, listen, we can train our emotions.
- 35:39So a lot of what we are find difficult is because we are
- 35:43untrained. You know, it's like going out
- 35:45there and saying, well like my wife, once did a Marathon, she
- 35:50went. And she did a 26-mile marathon
- 35:53and she and the way she did when she ran and walked it ran and
- 35:56walked it, but she completed it, but she had to train for it.
- 36:00If she would have went out there the day of the marathon and said
- 36:03I'm going to do 26 Mile, she wouldn't have made it a mile.
- 36:07In order to do the marathon, she had to train.
- 36:10So many of us are, are seeking to live good Christian lives and
- 36:15we don't train for. Can I give you one more quote?
- 36:17Yeah. So there's this sport
- 36:19psychologist. He used to be, he wasn't Olympic
- 36:24trainer. And psychologists name is Jim
- 36:26lore, and he had trained Olympic Athlete, he became a coach and
- 36:32executive coach for business Executives.
- 36:36Okay? And he wrote something in
- 36:38Harvard Business Review that I read years ago and he said, I
- 36:42noticed something he says I'm working with these Executives in
- 36:46their offices. He's I noticed there's a
- 36:48difference between the executives and the Olympic
- 36:51athletes. He said an Olympic Athlete will
- 36:55spin years in practice and preparation for just a few
- 37:00moments a performance. Think about, I've had friends
- 37:04who died, two friends, who were training for the Olympics?
- 37:07I know. That's true.
- 37:08They spend years in practice years in preparation for just a
- 37:11few few moments a few minutes. Wow performance.
- 37:16He said but I noticed the business Executives spend all
- 37:19their time in performance and very little to no time in
- 37:23practice and preparation. And when I heard that, I'm even
- 37:27thought of members of the body of Christ and I said, we spend
- 37:30the majority of our time in performance as Believers very
- 37:34little time in practice and preparation.
- 37:37Asian. And so this is why I talk about
- 37:41training, training, your emotions.
- 37:43I believe that biblical things that we are called to do, like
- 37:45the meditate upon God's word, that's preparation.
- 37:49But then it's like, well, how do you meditate upon God's word?
- 37:51What's involved in meditation? What are the different types of
- 37:54biblical meditation? I'm talking about biblical
- 37:56meditation, and these are things, I started studying over
- 37:59the years. Start, looking at all the
- 38:00different words that are used words.
- 38:03Like, huh, God words like Sasha, Belle, Fourche out, all of these
- 38:07different Edwards to do with the mind and can deal with, they do
- 38:11with meditation and they have to do with the mind and emotions
- 38:14and I was never taught these things.
- 38:16So in our training and our teaching, we talk about these
- 38:19things a lot in the church I Pastor which is now called The
- 38:22Oasis. They hear a lot of emotions
- 38:26because every so often I'll just do a whole series and I'll say
- 38:30this one other thing and you can ask me any other question when
- 38:33the pandemic happened, there was a lot of fear.
- 38:37Yeah, lot of anxieties. I work as a coach, I have
- 38:41branded myself as an emotional success coach and I got a lot of
- 38:46calls. When the pandemic hit.
- 38:47My book was filled, my schedule was feel because people were in
- 38:52such fear such anxiety. People of our fellowship though.
- 38:57We couldn't we couldn't meet live.
- 38:59We'd actually before the pandemic happened, the place
- 39:01where we were renting, we'd end up not being able to use it
- 39:03again. So when the pandemic happened,
- 39:05it's like well, nobody's meeting now.
- 39:07And so we started meeting online and one of the things that
- 39:11really bless my heart because we're encouraging everyone don't
- 39:14be ruled by fear. You know pray seek God.
- 39:19Talk with your doctors, make wise decisions is what we're
- 39:21telling everyone. One of the people on our from
- 39:25our fellowship Who's online. She spoke of she says Pastor
- 39:28Mike, they call me Pastor Mike. She said I have to tell you
- 39:31though and everybody starts saying.
- 39:32Yeah, this is really true. They said all that you've taught
- 39:35us about dealing with our emotion, has prepared us for
- 39:38this. So that we're not in fear is
- 39:42because of what you and Pastor Karen would you guys have taught
- 39:44us? We are not in fear.
- 39:47That's so blessed me. I had no idea.
- 39:51They were going to say that. So they were saying thank you
- 39:53for all that. You've taught us about dealing
- 39:55with our emotions. That blessed me tremendously,
- 39:59all of that training leading up to those moments of making a
- 40:02choice, right? Exactly.
- 40:06So as you were talking, one of the things that I was trying to
- 40:09hold on to Because I'm taking the journey with you,
- 40:11Battlefield just like, this is so important for me personally,
- 40:16and I know it's going to affect other people.
- 40:18There's, there's a scripture where God says, without faith.
- 40:23We cannot please him and me, we, we think of the word pleasing.
- 40:27Like like, that's, it's appealing or satisfying.
- 40:31Maybe you see God's emotion is heart towards us when we're in
- 40:36faith. So, like, just like how many
- 40:38people read that verse I do without faith.
- 40:40Is impossible to please God. But what you're doing and
- 40:42talking about and God has led you to in your life is helping
- 40:46to deepen the connection. And if you understanding because
- 40:52we would I would just read over that in my earlier days.
- 40:56I'm like, okay. So he's like happy or something.
- 40:58He's going to smile, but, but it's so much more than that.
- 41:02And then with the scripture, it's always kind of like that in
- 41:04the Bible, like you just keep going in.
- 41:06You like, I could spend the rest of my life doing this and I'm
- 41:10not going to find an Angela right of working this all
- 41:14together for four are good for his plans.
- 41:18It's just It's amazing. You just have so much flowing
- 41:23out of. You just seeing your face and
- 41:25hearing you talk of reminds me of like that River of water,
- 41:29that flows out of us. It's like something's boiling up
- 41:31in you and you're like, okay, hold this back.
- 41:34Here is another one is another difference between Talent OR
- 41:38anointing right? Yeah well that and that's what I
- 41:41said. If I go to long does interrupt
- 41:43me and To share their testimony and just share their heart.
- 41:52And you know we'll have you down in the future and try to narrow
- 41:55in some some topics that that are relevant to what the body of
- 41:59Christ and just listeners around the world are dealing with but
- 42:02yeah be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
- 42:06Yeah let's talk about that a little bit, okay?
- 42:09Because that is something that I struggle with and that you
- 42:13coming from very outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
- 42:17Very secular the way, He grew up, I mean I got 15 your were
- 42:22talking about. Okay, God, I'm gonna not date
- 42:24and prepare. I got my first tattoo of those
- 42:27but I'm not happy to say that but it's like, you know, there
- 42:32was a lot of trauma and there was I went to a big school.
- 42:36There was a lot of diversity are things to get caught up and
- 42:39wrapped up in. So I would say to people I'm
- 42:42just doing what I was taught, right?
- 42:44And then breaking that, I had a near-death encounter at like 19
- 42:48years old. I got jumped by a bunch of guys
- 42:50and how to monitor out of body experience and that launched me
- 42:52into now questioning everything. Because now I'm around.
- 42:55Everything's under interrogation because nobody is talking about
- 42:59what I experience and that was kind of my shock into.
- 43:03I've got it all wrong, not that I had anything right, but it was
- 43:06the reality check of their something so much more, and I
- 43:11don't know anything about that. Well, long story short.
- 43:14I like 24, I give my heart to Christ and it's been a rocky
- 43:18ride. So I'm happy that you're here to
- 43:22help me make sense and to make thick napkin as well as the
- 43:25listeners get into. Renewing of the Mind share with
- 43:29us like what some of that process look like for you an
- 43:33advice of how we make that reality.
- 43:35How do we give the right training and effort to get the
- 43:39result of peeling from these traumas?
- 43:42I mean I still do with PTSD. How do we renew our mind in
- 43:46these areas that affect us deeply Yeah.
- 43:50Well, so part of it is, like I said, it's the know how its
- 43:54noise, what is not only knowing what to do, but how to do it,
- 43:57which the Biblical term for that is wisdom.
- 43:59Wisdom is skilled. One of the definitions of wisdom
- 44:02is skill. It is how to, and what I start
- 44:04studying all this, the thing that I said, was one of the
- 44:07things that we have lacked is wisdom.
- 44:10We've lacked how to do something, we've lacked the
- 44:12skill, and a lot of it is within the biblical text, and one of
- 44:18the things that I Variants one year.
- 44:21And then I tell the surgeon start to show that God was
- 44:24really involved. So one year, this is, when I'm
- 44:26early on, in my studies of trying, to figure out how to
- 44:28renew the mind of stuff, I'm reading this book called
- 44:32Christian perspectives, on being human, And it's a kind of like
- 44:37an anthology is not a lot of different Scholars.
- 44:39And, you know, they had neuroscientists and
- 44:41psychologists say the Theologian and they're writing about being
- 44:44human. They're writing about how, how,
- 44:47and, well, one guy had a chapter on there that it wasn't about,
- 44:51renewing the mind, but he talked about that extensively in that
- 44:54chapter, and he talked about how change needs to occur, not just
- 44:59intellectually, but also emotionally, and we're not just
- 45:03intellectually not just below. Additionally not just what you
- 45:05think, not just what you decide but also what you feel and he
- 45:10says, without all three, there's not a true renewing of the mind
- 45:15and I had come to that conclusion from what I was 10.
- 45:18I went no, this is really true because when the Bible says be
- 45:21transformed by the renewing of the Mind, most people take that
- 45:24as just intellectually that you think new thoughts.
- 45:28But if you look up the word mind in Greek, you can use something
- 45:32as simple as a Strong's Concordance.
- 45:33It'll say, The mind and intellect will and feeling.
- 45:38The mine is composed of all three of those, and when I
- 45:41remember, when I first learned it, our way, now that can't be
- 45:44right, he calls. I was always told there's not
- 45:47much you can do about your feelings and emotions and so
- 45:49your emotions didn't really count.
- 45:51They weren't part of the process of renewing.
- 45:53The Mind, here, I'm reading. This is actually what the word
- 45:56means in Greek. So I struggle with that.
- 45:59But I kept doing research and my studies in Greek and Hebrew, you
- 46:03know, learning to look upwards and do and do studies in the
- 46:06original languages. It began to bear this out and I
- 46:11went. Whoa.
- 46:12So I'm reading this guy's book and he says that it takes all
- 46:15three for their to truly affect a renewing of the mind.
- 46:19And then, he says, this is why we're told to meditate upon
- 46:22scripture because it had the idea was because it will affect
- 46:26all three. And when I read that again I
- 46:29believe the Lord spoke to my heart and has been borne out.
- 46:31Now over the years, I heard the Bible is structured in such a
- 46:36way as to touch and Transform, not only your intellect but also
- 46:41your emotions. And I heard that and I believe
- 46:44it was from the Lord and I said and I said to the Lord, what do
- 46:48you mean? The Bible is structured in such
- 46:49a way. What does that mean?
- 46:51But again, it was all I heard that.
- 46:53I knew that meant I needed to start studying.
- 46:54So I started studying the structure of scripture.
- 46:58How are the strip scriptures constructed?
- 47:01And I began to it took many years, little by little I first
- 47:04start studying the Psalms which are, which are filled with
- 47:07emotions and I start studying other things, long story short,
- 47:11I began to find out, I began to study at one at one point.
- 47:14What's called the rhetorical The Retreat?
- 47:17What we could call it, the rhetorical structure of
- 47:19scripture that scriptures are written in such a way as they
- 47:25are to, they seek to effect a change, not only in your
- 47:29thinking that also on how you feel.
- 47:31That the way the Apostle Paul role the way that the Apostle
- 47:34Peter wrote they wrote utilizing certain structures and styles
- 47:38and what's known as devices in order to affect certain
- 47:42responses from the people. And when I started to realize
- 47:46this, I was like, oh my gosh, this is what the Lord spoke to
- 47:48me. And so one of the things I
- 47:50started looking at was well, how are these things written?
- 47:54I started to realize the writers of scripture are making use of
- 47:57emotion to affect change. This is what we're normally not
- 48:03taught. We are taught that emotions.
- 48:06We're normally taught emotions are, merely the byproduct of
- 48:11changing your thinking What I began to see in my research, and
- 48:15I mean, this has been borne out in.
- 48:16Also the Sciences Neuroscience, psychological research is not
- 48:21only can thought changing motion, but emotion, can change
- 48:26thought. And so what I so what I began to
- 48:30see what's that were always focusing on just trying to
- 48:33change it at the cognitive or 20 the at the intellectual level.
- 48:38I said, what if we started first seeking to create change at the
- 48:41emotional level, it will automatically create a change at
- 48:45the intellectual level. So rather than just always
- 48:49thought needs to change emotion, I start saying emotion can
- 48:53change thought Now I was saying this and that and and it's not
- 48:59any worry to me. It was just what my research was
- 49:01showing. But if people like no, you know,
- 49:05and sometimes I still get people going.
- 49:07No, I do know, there's a whole field of therapy called emotion
- 49:11focused therapy, where they use emotion to change emotion.
- 49:16And so one of the reasons it is often so difficult and reason
- 49:20people struggle is because they are trying to deal with
- 49:23emotional issues, only from a cognitive level.
- 49:28And I tell people that I said, here's the thing when you're in
- 49:32when, if there's a battle between your intellect and your
- 49:36emotions, The majority of the time, your emotions are going to
- 49:40win. Hmm, they were over power.
- 49:43Where did this is? Why people struggle with porn
- 49:45addiction? This is why people struggle with
- 49:47sometimes, with anger with fear member austrane.
- 49:50Before I had the fear and I would try to be logical about.
- 49:52I'm going to apply my faith and I fear will come up and be like,
- 49:55well, that forget that, but it was learning how to utilize,
- 49:59emotion to change emotion. It doesn't, it doesn't take away
- 50:04the intellectual, the cognitive it would stick is still can work
- 50:06with it. But I've had friends sometimes
- 50:10who had some psychological training, they'll go.
- 50:11Well Mike know, you always have to you always have to have
- 50:14thought to change emotion, I go. No, that's not true.
- 50:17First of all, you can eat certain foods and it will change
- 50:19your emotional state. Yeah, independent of thought
- 50:23certain foods will change your mood.
- 50:24You too much sugar, it will change your mood.
- 50:27You can think of GE you can eat too much sugar, you call it.
- 50:29You have a crash and no matter how positive you may think, you
- 50:32still go feel horrible. Because of that of the sugar
- 50:35that you've eaten, you can change your, you can change your
- 50:37physiology or your posture, you can breathe different and I've
- 50:40done this hundreds, if not thousands of time.
- 50:43Now where I've like I did a training at a major car
- 50:49manufacturing industry, I won't say the name.
- 50:51But it was, if I said everybody would know it.
- 50:53And I was working with the executives and we were, and I
- 50:56was teaching them, which now the field is called emotional
- 50:59intelligence. I was teaching them, emotional
- 51:01intelligence skills, and one of the things I showed them how to
- 51:05change their emotional state simply by changing their
- 51:08physiology changing way. They were breathing, change your
- 51:11way were standing, so I have them, think about a problem
- 51:14because I think about it, I think about problem or
- 51:16frustration that you're dealing with and I have them self, I had
- 51:19them put themselves, In a posture of feeling down or
- 51:24depressed or discouraged. This is the posture of it.
- 51:27That's it. Breathe the way you breathe.
- 51:28When you're discouraged. Sit the way you sit when you're
- 51:31discouraged or depressed. I said, how does your, how will
- 51:34your, for, I had them put themselves as enough as you
- 51:36think about that problem? Think about that problem.
- 51:38As you put your body in that position, I said, how does that
- 51:41problem seemed to you and everybody's like, oh and
- 51:43possible to solve. There's no way.
- 51:44This is just hopeless. I said, okay, I had everybody
- 51:47stand up and then Shake Yourself.
- 51:50I said now I want you to stand like you're a superhero that
- 51:53stand up, lift your chest and your arms on the side.
- 51:57I said men like you're Superman women like you're Wonder Woman.
- 51:59I said, look up. That's I want you to think about
- 52:01that problem as you do. I want you to laugh.
- 52:04A nice, hearty laugh haha and they did that.
- 52:07I had to do it several times. I said now, he think about that
- 52:09problem. Now I said howhow does that
- 52:12problem scene? They say, I can handle this, I
- 52:14can do with this. The only thing that changed was
- 52:17their emotion and we changed it not by having them think.
- 52:20Positive. I just had them change their
- 52:22physiology. I have them change the way
- 52:24they're breathing. Okay, so our hold on.
- 52:26Alright, I got to ask you a quick question so I don't lose
- 52:28this one. Do you think that's why I like
- 52:32it made me think of yoga because our right.
- 52:37People ask me all the time. I was funny just over the last
- 52:40couple weeks, I had people reach out to me, listeners and friends
- 52:43and family. A few of them and asked me what
- 52:46my thoughts were on yoga. And I'm like, no, I'm like, if
- 52:49you Want to stretch stretch like, if you want a breather,
- 52:54but I said, because there's something to it.
- 52:57Now, the reason that my brain jumped is just because you were
- 53:00just like making the point of like hey when we posture
- 53:03ourselves certain way, it affects the emotion.
- 53:08Like that is so strange to me, do you think the enemy tries to
- 53:13use and compartmentalize these from what I know of yoga and its
- 53:18National format? You're posing in your Literally
- 53:20opening yourself up to while you're clearing yourself and
- 53:24open yourself up to demonic entities, which they have a
- 53:26plethora of names for to move through you from posture and
- 53:30movements and like that's I don't necessarily get something.
- 53:34Yeah, I don't think it's necessarily so much just by
- 53:36posture and reason I get that question to and I answer it is
- 53:40balanced in his honest as I can. I said, if that's the case, that
- 53:43is, if it's solely posture that you open up, I said, I said
- 53:47because the idea is, well, they do that stretch, a yoga, if you
- 53:49do That stretch, you're going to open yourself up to the enemy.
- 53:51I go. Well, that's like saying if they
- 53:53yawn you yawn, you're going to open up yourself, it doesn't
- 53:56work that way. I said, there's also beliefs
- 53:58that you need to take. Yes.
- 53:59However and so, there are certain things that are taught
- 54:02within the belief system that I would go.
- 54:05No, those, don't those do not track with what we believe as
- 54:08Christians, and those can open you up.
- 54:10Beliefs, can open you up to things, some I said, but doing
- 54:14Simple stretches I said, here's the thing.
- 54:17I always say, I said you've got to keep in mind, the enemy.
- 54:20Not a Creator or of anything? Yes.
- 54:24A distorter of things and this is what because I have people
- 54:29when I first start studying this day and I was, and I like I
- 54:31said, I had to go outside the Christian books that I was
- 54:34reading even by Christian therapist because I'll it was
- 54:36limited and I start studying other things that people like
- 54:39all know, you know, that you're going to again.
- 54:41It was like you're going to open yourself up to the enemy.
- 54:43So I was scared, you know, because I didn't want to, you
- 54:46know, I don't want to myself and my family up to anything so I
- 54:49was taking my time. Doing a lot of research but I
- 54:52think about is what I realize is this.
- 54:54The enemy would take and twist. The enemy would take what God
- 54:57create it and twist it. And the Lord told me that
- 55:01through Romans chapter 1 where Paul talks about God revealed
- 55:06himself, one of the ways he has revealed himself is through
- 55:10creation. Yes.
- 55:12But if you go and you read the whole passage.
- 55:15What is the test? They do says, when they, when
- 55:17they saw him as God, they did not acknowledge Him as God.
- 55:21But they begin to worship the creation rather than the
- 55:26Creator. And they began to worship the
- 55:29Sun, the moon and the stars. They begin to take trees and
- 55:32make Idols. So they took what God created
- 55:35that reflects God's glory, they saw the glory of creation
- 55:39thinking, it was the glory of other gods and they twist it
- 55:43creation from what it was intended to be, which was to
- 55:47reflect back to the glory of our God.
- 55:49So I Look at that. I go.
- 55:51How many other things does the enemy take and twist.
- 55:55I believe our job. We're supposed to be like, yeah,
- 55:58we're supposed to be a light tiny into the darkness and
- 56:02saying, hey, this is the original intention for why this
- 56:08exists. So, wow, God's created our
- 56:12physical being and our minds to work a certain way.
- 56:15Not everybody that I have learned from is a Christian
- 56:17because I Christians didn't know what.
- 56:19I was studying at the Time. And so I had to go outside, but
- 56:22I was very careful. Always stayed biblical.
- 56:24I thought something was unbiblical that no can go with
- 56:26that. It's not biblical.
- 56:29But what I began to see was, wait a minute.
- 56:31This is not so much about. Oh, is this person a Christian?
- 56:35I said there's two. They're discovering things about
- 56:37how the human brain and mind works.
- 56:40And the way, if it's truly, this is how it works.
- 56:43It's God, that created that You know?
- 56:46So like I remember when I was growing up as a young Christian,
- 56:51and in my early twenties, one of the biggest books around at the
- 56:54time was called seduction of Christianity.
- 56:59By Dave Hunt, that book had so many Christians scared and one
- 57:04of the things that it had a scared about what psychology
- 57:07like nope, stay away from psychology not of God.
- 57:10There have been Christian ministers.
- 57:12One famous lizard. In Southern California, who says
- 57:15occur. And should not go to
- 57:16psychologist. Because the word psyche comes
- 57:20from the word suitcase which has to do with the soul, and God is
- 57:23the one who made the sole, so you can't go to secular people,
- 57:26only, you only need the Bible, you need Jesus, that type of
- 57:29stuff was keeping me in bondage, and keeping his kept a lot of
- 57:33other people in bondage. I know, because I've worked with
- 57:34them because they had that thinking, and while there are
- 57:38things that are said that are that are wrong.
- 57:40There are also things said that are, right?
- 57:42So that's what I say. We need to bring the truth.
- 57:45And the spirit of Truth into these things and began looking
- 57:49at it and say, what's Twisted that we need to untwist.
- 57:53So when I teach on, renewing the mind, I talked a lot about
- 57:56renewing the mind but you know, the foundation of it is because
- 57:59I took for me, renewing. The mind is about bringing your
- 58:01mind, your will and your emotions into alignment with
- 58:05what God has done for you in Christ and what God is doing for
- 58:09you in Christ. So that to me, biblically is
- 58:13renewing, the mind is getting your mind you.
- 58:15Willing your emotions and I could we could talk about the
- 58:17scriptures that point to that and say that and state that or
- 58:21show that, but it's getting it into agreement into harmony into
- 58:26alignment with what God is working within you.
- 58:28So the Bible tells us in Philippians chapter 2, verse 12
- 58:33and 13 work out your own salvation with fear and
- 58:36trembling and that's verse 12 verse 13 says, for it is God who
- 58:40works in you both to Will and to do of his good pleasure.
- 58:44So God works in us both to Will and to do, the word will is a
- 58:52term that has to do with emotion has to do with feeling of
- 58:55desire. He works in us, God desires, but
- 58:58did, but the first part of the verse verse 12 says, we have to
- 59:01work out which means we have to carry out what God is doing
- 59:05within and that's the renewing of the Mind process.
- 59:08So my point is saying that is the more we understand how the
- 59:14Works. The more we understand how the
- 59:16brain works and we can we can utilize that in a Godly way to
- 59:21bring our minor Wilner emotions into alignment with what God is
- 59:24doing with us and cry. So when I teach it, that's what
- 59:26I'm saying, I tell people all the time I say look God is
- 59:29working in you both to Will and to do of his good pleasure.
- 59:31God is doing his part. You don't ever have to worry
- 59:33about worry about that. You've got to do your part and
- 59:37it's goes back again. I want to forget your original
- 59:39question is like how that's the thing you have to learn?
- 59:41How you've got to learn what I call strategies that you need?
- 59:44To learn strategies. Like like the Bible says, the
- 59:48Bible tells us things like put off the old man.
- 59:52Okay, the Bible says, put off anger wrath.
- 59:56Put off lust, right? How do you put it off, putting
- 1:00:02Christ on it's like. Well, here's the thing is really
- 1:00:05interesting in the scriptures. We see a consistent pattern of
- 1:00:09before you put something on. You must first, put something
- 1:00:12off. That is consistent Ephesians
- 1:00:15chapter 4 says you've put off the old man, put on the new man.
- 1:00:18Colossians chapter 3 tells us put off the old man.
- 1:00:20Put on the new man. You know, the Bible tells us put
- 1:00:23on the Lord, Jesus Christ to make no provision for the flesh,
- 1:00:27when he comes when Israel went into the promised land to
- 1:00:31possess the land, and God told them, you're going to possess
- 1:00:34the land. If you look up the word for
- 1:00:36possess in Hebrew, it means to possess by first In the
- 1:00:43inhabitants of the land. What do you do?
- 1:00:48There's this, there's this constant thing of before you can
- 1:00:52possess something or put it on. You need to put it off now and
- 1:00:57so we teach skills, how do you do that?
- 1:00:59How do you put things off and and the idea of it?
- 1:01:03We it's a way of well when you say we call it detach skills.
- 1:01:07How do you detach from any emotional state?
- 1:01:09That's getting me away? That stripping, you important,
- 1:01:12we show people how to do that. But we also show them.
- 1:01:14How do you step into emotional states that can support you?
- 1:01:17Because one of the things that I teach, is that your emotions are
- 1:01:21not meant to be your enemies, they are meant to be your allies
- 1:01:24in the service of God. God did not give your emotions
- 1:01:27to you, but to be your your enemies, but your allies.
- 1:01:30What we have to learn to do which is part of what is taught
- 1:01:34in emotional intelligence. And I teach it also is that
- 1:01:36you've got to learn how to respond wisely to your emotions.
- 1:01:40And we've not been taught how to respond wisely.
- 1:01:43We've been taught to suppress them.
- 1:01:44We've been taught to ignore them.
- 1:01:45We've been taught to repress them or we've been taught to
- 1:01:48indulge them, none of, which are good.
- 1:01:51What? Most Christians practice is
- 1:01:54emotional constraint. We practice emotional
- 1:01:57constraint, which is not bad, but if you left the only
- 1:02:00strategy, you have it becomes tiring, emotional.
- 1:02:02Constraint is when somebody says something to you and you think I
- 1:02:05could slap them, but I'm a Christian.
- 1:02:07So I'm not going to do it for another two weeks, right?
- 1:02:13But I'm not going to do it. I'm not gonna do it.
- 1:02:14So you don't that's great. But if it's the only strategy
- 1:02:18you have emotional constraint which is based upon willpower
- 1:02:21and there are studies that have been done, that will power after
- 1:02:24a while give gives out And so, people mostly when I was dealing
- 1:02:31with that fear, I was practicing and trying to practice,
- 1:02:34emotional constraint. And it wasn't working after a
- 1:02:36while the emotional strength gets tiring.
- 1:02:39So, people who struggle with addictions like porn addiction,
- 1:02:42they try to strain. I've worked in the past with,
- 1:02:46with some men. I had a partner that I was
- 1:02:48working with. We did some work at a church
- 1:02:50with men who are struggling with porn, we showed them some things
- 1:02:52that work with them, and one of the things like, and I'm not
- 1:02:55against what I'm getting ready to say.
- 1:02:57But I think it's not enough. So often men will be told you
- 1:03:00need to put blockers on your computer.
- 1:03:03You need to give your passwords to your wife or to someone else,
- 1:03:07you need to be accountable. And I used to look at that, I
- 1:03:09would go okay, those are good. But what's that?
- 1:03:12I call it the urge. I said once that urge hits you
- 1:03:16will find your way around every single one of those things and
- 1:03:19every guy, one guy in particular that I work with.
- 1:03:21He said, Mike, that's so true. He said my wife would put he was
- 1:03:24struggling with porn at one point.
- 1:03:26He's a, my wife would put She would put blockers on the
- 1:03:29computer to block me from going to different size.
- 1:03:32Only, she had the password, he said, I would find a way around
- 1:03:35it every single time. So my point here is to say none,
- 1:03:39don't do those things. My point is what we need to
- 1:03:41teach people. To do is how to renew their
- 1:03:44minds, change their emotions, how to detach from that urge
- 1:03:47when it hits them. And, and this is the thing that
- 1:03:49most people don't realize how did how you direct your emotions
- 1:03:53towards that, which is Godly emotions were part of the A
- 1:03:57walking in the spirit process. I teach that people like what I
- 1:04:00do. Yeah, your emotions are involved
- 1:04:02and walking in the spirit It Go. I was always taught that your
- 1:04:04emotions have nothing to do with walking this pickle.
- 1:04:06Yeah, I know. That's wrong.
- 1:04:07Your lips. Just have everything that can
- 1:04:11share with you one quick thing to show that.
- 1:04:13Yeah, Romans chapter 8, one of my favorite passages.
- 1:04:17Mmm, the Apostle Paul says, he writes in Romans chapter 8 for
- 1:04:21they who are after the flesh. Mind the things of the flesh.
- 1:04:25But they who are after the spirit mind, the things of the
- 1:04:28spirit. So, the word mind in Greek, the
- 1:04:33Greek word, it comes from the Greek word for Nao.
- 1:04:37This word means to direct, if you look it up, it means to
- 1:04:41direct to mind, means to direct the intellect, the will, and the
- 1:04:46affections or the emotions towards something.
- 1:04:50You are aligning with something. So, to mind the things of the
- 1:04:55flesh means, you're directing your intellect and the way it's
- 1:04:58written in Greek is What's called the active voice in
- 1:05:01Greek, which means the subject of the sentence is performing
- 1:05:03the action. So when it says for they who are
- 1:05:07after The Flesh, mind the things of the flesh, the subject of the
- 1:05:09sentence are as days with a who are after a foot that means you
- 1:05:12are directing your intellect, your will and your emotions
- 1:05:16towards what is of the flesh, it gets into a lie.
- 1:05:19I meant with what is of the flesh, but the same thing is
- 1:05:22said of what those who are after the spirit mind the things of
- 1:05:27the spirit. So when you're walking in the
- 1:05:29spiritual because you are directing your intellect, your
- 1:05:33will and your emotions towards what is of the spirit and that's
- 1:05:37what God is working in us. 24/7 to do that, we direct our
- 1:05:40intellect. He doesn't do it.
- 1:05:41I tell people, I say he doesn't do it for you, he empowers you
- 1:05:45to do it, he would do it with you, but he won't do it for you.
- 1:05:48You've got to direct your in Like will and emotions towards
- 1:05:52what is of the spirit. That's how you walk in the
- 1:05:54spirit. Galatians 5:25 says, if we live
- 1:06:00in the spirit, let us also walk in the spirit or walk by the
- 1:06:05spirit, the word. Walk by in Greek is a word that
- 1:06:09means to walk in alignment with, or to keep in step with.
- 1:06:13So people who are walking in the spirit, are keeping in Step.
- 1:06:17It's like soldiers when they're marching in there and step with
- 1:06:19each. Other people.
- 1:06:20Yeah, there's Santa stepped in Harmony when we're walking in
- 1:06:24the spirit. We're In Harmony with the
- 1:06:25spirit. Well, how do we get in harmony
- 1:06:27with the spirit? Romans 8 tells us you've got to
- 1:06:29direct your intellect will and emotions which is also part of
- 1:06:32the renewing of the while. When you direct your, your
- 1:06:35intellect will, and the emotions consistently and the waves are
- 1:06:39written in Greek, is the idea of you do this consistently, it's
- 1:06:42not just one time, you do it, consistently.
- 1:06:44Then it says you'll become. If you direct your intellect
- 1:06:47will and emotions consistently towards what is Of the flesh,
- 1:06:50you become carnally minded, the word there is, it's the result
- 1:06:56of minding the things of the spirit so you will develop a
- 1:06:59disposition of carnal - but if you continually direct your
- 1:07:05intellect will and emotions towards the things of the
- 1:07:07spirit, you will become spiritually minded, which means
- 1:07:11you would develop a disposition in your intellect, your will and
- 1:07:14your emotions towards the things of the spirit.
- 1:07:16And what I tell people is you do not have A carnal set of
- 1:07:21emotions and a spiritual set of emotions.
- 1:07:23You have one set of emotions but where you direct them, either
- 1:07:28towards the flesh or towards the spirit determines, if their
- 1:07:31carnal or spiritual, Whoo, that's a thousand emotions are
- 1:07:39involved in. Walk in the spirit, your whole
- 1:07:42being, I should say, is involved in Walking, in the spirit, we've
- 1:07:44compared to compartmentalize it and said, well, now your
- 1:07:47emotions are not involved. No, the Bible says, present your
- 1:07:49whole body. That the biblical view of man is
- 1:07:52that we are a dynamic whole we're not set well, I know
- 1:07:55people talk about Spirit soul and body, but if you look at the
- 1:07:57way Paul said that, he said I prayed.
- 1:07:59God sanctify, your whole Spirit soul and body.
- 1:08:03We're Dynamic unity. And so, your whole being is
- 1:08:08involved in Walking in the spirit.
- 1:08:10Not just one aspect of you. So that I asked you about, like,
- 1:08:15you know, fear and does that lead, to lowering the immune
- 1:08:17system. And we kind of, we kind of broke
- 1:08:19that down and helped me to understand what that would look
- 1:08:22like over time. Now, if we're walking in
- 1:08:25obedience to God, it's the reverse of that.
- 1:08:29It reminds me the scripture where it says, like, God will
- 1:08:32allow, I think it is. Like the iniquity or something,
- 1:08:34I got up to the second or third generation that's that's
- 1:08:38peculiar to me. One of the other things would be
- 1:08:44Oh jeez. I just have It's interesting how
- 1:08:49Jesus would say according to your faith.
- 1:08:52Hmm. And it reminds me of Proverbs.
- 1:08:55So, man, thinketh he is so, do you think that it's sis we are
- 1:09:01as people systematically desensitized to these things, so
- 1:09:05that our will our mind and emotion cannot be in sync.
- 1:09:09You think the enemy kind of has a long range shot where he set
- 1:09:13because he's not a creator of anything.
- 1:09:14Like I agree with you, he just will parallel something,
- 1:09:17distorted, Right up or rearrange things a little bit.
- 1:09:21He's not actually unrolling anything new.
- 1:09:24He's availing portions of what he has, I guess.
- 1:09:28According to the word, the right to be able to do for those who
- 1:09:31are in Disobedience, right? Like it reminds me the verse
- 1:09:35also this says that they would believe the law God will send
- 1:09:38them strong delusion because they reject Even if they didn't
- 1:09:43hear the word creation itself, speaks of his glory, his power,
- 1:09:48right? Who he is, I was like in a
- 1:09:51nutshell. I'm looking and going, I'm
- 1:09:52learning so much going to be a part 2.
- 1:09:57If you're gracious enough to give us more time down to be
- 1:10:01digesting this for a minute, but it just, it makes me think from
- 1:10:05all these other things I've heard on the show and just my
- 1:10:08own kind of like experiences, right?
- 1:10:12Enemy. I think is systematically
- 1:10:14desensitizing people so that we are out of what we're not firing
- 1:10:18on all cylinders. Our emotions are out of whack
- 1:10:22and like you said you were doing with when you're younger you're
- 1:10:24going to said, oh I'm trying to read them trying to meditate on
- 1:10:26the word of God and then somebody's like yells at you,
- 1:10:29your boss or your wife or somebody cuts you off in the car
- 1:10:32and all of a sudden you flipped a switch or a whole different
- 1:10:34person. Right.
- 1:10:36That is so true and you started out at towards the beginning of
- 1:10:40this episode talking about ministers.
- 1:10:42People on the outside. They put this appearance on like
- 1:10:45right, everything's good. And on the man and I'm coaching
- 1:10:50people but then the realness is broken.
- 1:10:53This behind closed doors, right? That's right.
- 1:10:55That's why I love. I love the podcast because it's
- 1:10:58challenged me to walk into a space where I'm capturing a
- 1:11:01journey of learning this and wrestling with these things in
- 1:11:05helps also that I'm finding other people like me.
- 1:11:08And that season. For this year, I'm starting to
- 1:11:11find a Of people that are like me and they're like, why is
- 1:11:15there this like sacred secular divide where it's like, we don't
- 1:11:20talk about it and if you do know, we don't talk about it.
- 1:11:25It's like, you're an oddball, you're a black sheep, you stick
- 1:11:28it out, you're going to be a Target and yes, a lot of times
- 1:11:32the targeting is just an increase of the the pain that's
- 1:11:35already there, so people that hide they've recluse all right.
- 1:11:39So you're breaking some walls down for you right now.
- 1:11:46If I can speak to something he says, like, why do we not talk
- 1:11:48about this in a church? Or why are we encourage you?
- 1:11:50Not to? I think part of the reason is up
- 1:11:52until recently, we have had what I considered to be a bad
- 1:11:56theology in the church about emotions.
- 1:11:57We've had a bad Theology of emotions and what I've one of
- 1:12:00the things you said a phrase that I coined a few years ago
- 1:12:04was bad theology makes for bad psychology.
- 1:12:08If you got a bad theology, can impact you mentally and
- 1:12:11emotionally. And it really can't because I've
- 1:12:13been I've been a victim of that in the past of, I had a
- 1:12:15theology, let the bad psychology meaning an impact me negatively,
- 1:12:20mentally, and emotionally in the church.
- 1:12:22And I think this came from some of the early church fathers who
- 1:12:26were steeped in, Greek philosophy.
- 1:12:28We're in Greek philosophy. A lot of times emotions were
- 1:12:31seen as evil. They're not to be trusted, and
- 1:12:35that came down through and, and a lot of the early church,
- 1:12:39fathers, all people know this this not to put down to two.
- 1:12:42Probably just fat. They were steeped in.
- 1:12:43Greek philosophy before becoming Christians.
- 1:12:47And so we can see evidence of that in the scripture.
- 1:12:50So there were a lot of things that they brought over and we
- 1:12:54and a lot of it was rooted in platonic thinking separation of
- 1:12:57Mind and Body And the emotions were bad and evil.
- 1:12:59Intellect reason is what was important was good.
- 1:13:03But really, when you look at the teachings of the scripture and
- 1:13:06especially tall, Paul says, listen, everything was tainted
- 1:13:10by sin including the intellect. Okay, including the intellect
- 1:13:16and Romans Either one, it talks about how we gave ourselves.
- 1:13:21We were given over to perverse desires.
- 1:13:23Our minds were darkened, but then, when you look later on in
- 1:13:27that same Book of Romans, you know, when Paul talks about all
- 1:13:31the things we did that were wrong and Romans chapter 6.
- 1:13:34He says, as you, once you did your members as instruments and
- 1:13:39your members, refers to all of the faculties of your being, as
- 1:13:42you once yielded, your members as instruments of
- 1:13:46unrighteousness. This unto sin.
- 1:13:49Now yield those, same faculties as instruments of righteousness.
- 1:13:56Mmm, to God. So we want yielded, our members
- 1:13:59as instruments of unrighteousness to sin.
- 1:14:02Now, we're to take those same members cause of we have, we
- 1:14:05have been, we have died with Christ, we've been raised with
- 1:14:07him. So now we're to yield our
- 1:14:09members as instruments of righteousness unto God and your
- 1:14:12members means your body, your imagination, your motive
- 1:14:16faculties. We aspect of your being is to be
- 1:14:19yielded unto God, as it was once used by the enemy and used by
- 1:14:23sin and used by flesh to express that, which was not of God.
- 1:14:27Now it is to be used to express that, which is of god.
- 1:14:31So, your intimate, your intellect, your imagination.
- 1:14:34Your emotions are to be shaped by the truth of God.
- 1:14:36I believe that went. What Jesus said is true.
- 1:14:39You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.
- 1:14:43When we understand what it means to know the truth, in the full,
- 1:14:47Is the word to know. The idea is that the truth
- 1:14:49should shape, not only what you think, but it's just shape how
- 1:14:52you feel your passion, your desire, your will.
- 1:14:56So I tell people, I said, your emotional life needs to be based
- 1:14:59upon the truth so that the your emotions can also be set free in
- 1:15:03Christ. So I know where they can expect
- 1:15:06can be what God meant for them to be.
- 1:15:08Now that doesn't simply mean memorizing, the truth, that's
- 1:15:11part of it but it's not all intellect, right memorizing.
- 1:15:15Like the intellect part people. I tend to think that information
- 1:15:18leads to transformation, it doesn't you can have all this
- 1:15:21is, you know, when I was at, when I was struggling with this,
- 1:15:24I knew I knew the but my nickname when I was younger was
- 1:15:29the human concordance. Could you can ask me about
- 1:15:31scripture and I could tell you that's what they were my family.
- 1:15:33We call me the human concordance.
- 1:15:35They said f ask him a special ask me where the scriptures I
- 1:15:37hear tell you but information did not lead to my
- 1:15:41transformation transformation so you can gather a lot of
- 1:15:46information. With your intellect.
- 1:15:48This is why a lot of people will know a lot of scriptures and
- 1:15:51they're struggling. What you have to do is
- 1:15:53inculcate, that information has to become a part of you.
- 1:15:56Wear it shapes, your thinking, your emotions and your will that
- 1:16:00I believe the author dollars reading was, his name was Robert
- 1:16:03Saucy. I have to go back and check that
- 1:16:04but he said that is a true renewing of the mind and I tell
- 1:16:08him I said look if you're thinking differently but there's
- 1:16:10not a shift in your emotional state.
- 1:16:12Hmm. You haven't renewed your mind
- 1:16:14yet you've gathered information. That's Good.
- 1:16:17But it needs to move over to where it is, now shifting, and
- 1:16:20that takes again, strategies to be able to do that.
- 1:16:24And you have to know specific and it's not like or these
- 1:16:27secret things know, they're not secret their things actually
- 1:16:29within the biblical text that we could.
- 1:16:31I was I was reading a book last night.
- 1:16:33Matter of fact, I have a right here.
- 1:16:35It's called my beloved brothers and sisters, and scholarly book.
- 1:16:39And it's called Christian, Sibley shipping and Paul.
- 1:16:43The writer. One of the things he writes
- 1:16:44about is Paul's letter to Philemon.
- 1:16:47When and how Paul was utilizing emotive terms, emotional terms
- 1:16:53in order to affect Philemon stinking so he would make
- 1:16:58certain decisions. So my point here is this in
- 1:17:04this, and we could talk about this another time, but it might
- 1:17:05be, is that the writers of scripture understood rhetorical
- 1:17:08strategies and devices that were used to help to encourage people
- 1:17:13to shifter? Think I'll give you a quick
- 1:17:15illustration. You've probably read, Hebrews
- 1:17:18chapter 11. Right, the great faith Hall of
- 1:17:21Fame, right? Your by faith Abraham did this
- 1:17:25by faith. Moses did this, you know, the
- 1:17:27purpose of Hebrews chapter 11, why it's there?
- 1:17:31Hmm, okay, so no he wasn't, Hebrews chapter 11 is an example
- 1:17:38or it, is it illustrates what is known in the ancient in the
- 1:17:41ancient world and Antiquity as an examples list in the ancient
- 1:17:46world when you wanted people? To to embody a certain virtue,
- 1:17:53you would provide them a list of people who were respected, well,
- 1:17:56known that they knew that they respect it.
- 1:17:58Who embodied those virtues the idea of it was to effect an
- 1:18:04emotional response to that so that they would start to embody
- 1:18:09that virtue also. So in Hebrews, so Hebrews
- 1:18:13chapter 11, now you have to keep in mind who's the book of
- 1:18:15Hebrews written to is written to people who are under Fusion to
- 1:18:19turn away from faith, in Christ. What are they being exhorted to
- 1:18:22do? In Hebrews chapter 11, to remain
- 1:18:24faithful, which is the the idea of faith in Hebrew, in Hebrew,
- 1:18:28and in Greek piece. This is faithfulness loyalty to
- 1:18:32remain faithful, not just believe, but to remain faithful
- 1:18:36and loyal to Christ. How does the author of Hebrews
- 1:18:40seek to do it? When we talk about the, how he
- 1:18:42doesn't just tell them. Hey, stay faithful.
- 1:18:45He gives them an example list. This was you, this was no.
- 1:18:48Known in the ancient world and it was.
- 1:18:51And so it was literally a device, a strategy for
- 1:18:54encouraging faithfulness. It's in the biblical text.
- 1:18:57That's something a white. Have we known this?
- 1:18:58Most of this information is locked up as scholarly, journals
- 1:19:02got a chance to read but I remember my mentor, dr.
- 1:19:07Bean. He's always say, the problem
- 1:19:09with Scholars is that they tend to only write to other Scholars.
- 1:19:11A lot of this information is filtered down but in fact dr.
- 1:19:17Bean had an ization. Which my wife and I are in
- 1:19:20charge of it was called the center for the study of biblical
- 1:19:22research. Its purpose was to make
- 1:19:24scholarly information and disseminated to the person in
- 1:19:28the pew. So I'm selling these demand.
- 1:19:32I told you, I'm studying, I'm going, oh my God.
- 1:19:34So wait a minute. In Hebrews chapter 11 is
- 1:19:37actually a rhetorical strategy known as an example list, which
- 1:19:40is supposed to encourage it creates encouragement.
- 1:19:42It creates motivation, that's dealing with the emotions.
- 1:19:47But I had never been in. Every book I have ever read.
- 1:19:50I've never been told that, but it was a scholar by the name of
- 1:19:53David de Silva. One of my favorite Scholars and
- 1:19:55another scholar by the name of Blues.
- 1:19:57Michael caught Crosby who wrote about examples list that on
- 1:20:03that. I learned about this David
- 1:20:05dasilva, introduced me to Michael Crosby's work, and I
- 1:20:08wouldn't read Michaels Crosby's work.
- 1:20:09And I went, oh my gosh, there are other things there are other
- 1:20:13rhetorical where we call rhetorical devices or strategies
- 1:20:15in the scriptures. That are designed to create a
- 1:20:19shift in the emotions of the people who are hearing the text
- 1:20:24in it. Come up with, in the originally
- 1:20:25who heard it? I have a say this real quick and
- 1:20:28I'm now I'm saying a lot of stuff.
- 1:20:30The Bible originally was not written to be read.
- 1:20:32The Bible was written. Originally, the Bible was
- 1:20:35presented as something. You hear, the ancient culture
- 1:20:39was an oral culture and an oral culture.
- 1:20:41It was a speaking and listening cult or retelling.
- 1:20:44Yeah, storytelling even the Epistles were written.
- 1:20:47In to be read out loud and the way the scholars have looked at
- 1:20:51announced that the way these things are structured.
- 1:20:53In the Greek. They are not, we read it.
- 1:20:57Like we will read Hebrews chapter, 11, we go by faith,
- 1:20:59Abraham by faith, Joshua, only by faith, Rahab by faith.
- 1:21:03Noah, that's the way we read it. Originally would have been read,
- 1:21:07like I see a table by faith, Noah my faith and it was
- 1:21:12building to this Crescendo so it was Stir Up emotions.
- 1:21:17Within the hearers to effect a change of thinking.
- 1:21:23All right, to two things. Nothing.
- 1:21:53The scene from where the Apostle Paul.
- 1:21:56I think it's at the Parthenon. Mmm.
- 1:21:58Right. And you can see he's going.
- 1:22:00He's looking at all these statues.
- 1:22:02That the Greeks have to discard and that God.
- 1:22:05And then he can just it's like, dramatic it's alive, right?
- 1:22:10You can see them, jump up, and be like, listen, I'm declaring
- 1:22:13to you. This statue to the unknown.
- 1:22:17God, I'm making a declaration today who he is, right?
- 1:22:22He was not sitting there like Oh, by the way, hey guys, hey
- 1:22:26crowd of people that you can see, right?
- 1:22:28Hall was right. Harry emotionally and bright?
- 1:22:32Yes, yes he was. He was there are things that I
- 1:22:36teach one of the keys to emotional intelligence with
- 1:22:39other people is being able to get Rapport create connection
- 1:22:43with others. I teach these in classes in
- 1:22:46corporations. There's a pilot each called
- 1:22:49leading with the emotional intelligence.
- 1:22:51And one of the things we say, is, if you're going to lead
- 1:22:53people, you gotta create Rapport, you gotta pee.
- 1:22:54Great connection with them. Hmm and we said that one of the
- 1:22:57ways you have to do that is you have sometimes you have to flex
- 1:23:00or change or be a flexible in your own communication style, we
- 1:23:04all have our own style of communicating.
- 1:23:06If you want to connect with another person you've got to
- 1:23:09communicate in their style not according to your style.
- 1:23:12Okay? That's important.
- 1:23:14Wow, it's all. Did this the Apostle Paul?
- 1:23:17Did this Paul said to the Jews I become a Jew to the Greek.
- 1:23:22I become angry. I become all things.
- 1:23:24Things to all to those without law.
- 1:23:26I become as one without law yet, I'm not without law under
- 1:23:29Christ, I become all things to all men that I might win some,
- 1:23:35in the Greco-Roman world, this was known as adaptability, its
- 1:23:41thing, it was an actual strategy.
- 1:23:43Yes, employed it. And there's a way to look at it.
- 1:23:46Also, from a Jewish perspective, he employed it in order to reach
- 1:23:50other people. So when people go are they
- 1:23:53things description? This is not scriptural, I go,
- 1:23:56you don't understand the history and the culture, you don't
- 1:23:57understand what you're you. Don't you're not looking in
- 1:24:00depth at what's being said in the history and culture of the
- 1:24:03day like examples list that was part of the culture
- 1:24:07adaptability, as a speaker. That was part of the culture
- 1:24:10speakers would use emotion, they would speakers would make where
- 1:24:13was known as appeals that were make appeals to three things to
- 1:24:17logic to character. And to emotions is in Greek.
- 1:24:21It is logos, ethos and pathos. We teach these things today.
- 1:24:26Aristotle was the one who originally codified all of this.
- 1:24:29When you look in the biblical text, when you look in the Old
- 1:24:32Testament, when you look in the New Testament, you see the
- 1:24:35writers of scripture, making it appeals to logic logos
- 1:24:39character? They talk about themselves and
- 1:24:41their character. Why they could be trusted Paul
- 1:24:43saying things. Like, I was, I was asleep.
- 1:24:45I mean, I was I was I've gone without food.
- 1:24:48I've been beaten three times of the Jews.
- 1:24:49I was, because she's making it, you just make it.
- 1:24:52Yeah, he's making an appeal to his Character.
- 1:24:55Yes, that's what we call that an Ethel's appeal.
- 1:24:58When he says he said. And then when he talks to you
- 1:25:03like the Galatians and he goes, oh you foolish Galatians.
- 1:25:05Most Scholars say, I believe is Galatians chapter 4.
- 1:25:09They say glitch instructor for is one of the most emotional
- 1:25:11passages within the scripture. Paul is very emotional in but
- 1:25:17he's emotional on purpose in order to effect a change.
- 1:25:22So, my point is saying is that There are actually strategies
- 1:25:26within the biblical text. I can tell you one in from the
- 1:25:30book of Deuteronomy. Hmm.
- 1:25:32So in Deuteronomy chapter and if I'm going to allow you to sell
- 1:25:35me stuff because I know I'm going on, I'm plugged in for a
- 1:25:38little bit, okay, he's not crazy.
- 1:25:41So in Deuteronomy chapter 7, God tells Israel that they're going
- 1:25:47to face Nations that are greater than them.
- 1:25:49And that are that are stronger than that, they just bigger and
- 1:25:53he says to them I don't want you to be afraid when You Face these
- 1:25:57nations because remember Israel wandered around for 40 years in
- 1:26:00the wilderness because when God brought them to the land, he
- 1:26:04sent the Spies, spies came back and said we can't do it.
- 1:26:08There's Giants in the land and people said, well, let's make a
- 1:26:10captain and go back into Egypt and they end up forty years in
- 1:26:12the wilderness. So God, as their, you know,
- 1:26:14Moses is saying his Farewell. He tells the people, when you
- 1:26:18come to this land and you see Nations bigger than you, he says
- 1:26:22to them do not Not be afraid. Now.
- 1:26:28He doesn't just leave it there. He actually tells them how not
- 1:26:31to be afraid in the next verse. Now, I only knew this when I
- 1:26:36start studying these things from a psychological and
- 1:26:39neuroscientist I went, oh my gosh.
- 1:26:41And then I actually started to study, didn't said, Yep, this is
- 1:26:44what this word is referring to. He next says to them, when you
- 1:26:46see the Nations that are bigger than you do not be afraid, then
- 1:26:51he says this, you shall well. Remember, what the Lord your God
- 1:26:56did unto pharaoh and to Egypt, the Great Signs and miracles and
- 1:27:01wonders. That your I saw.
- 1:27:03He said, You shall remember the Hebrew word is the car, which
- 1:27:06means to bring something back to mine.
- 1:27:09Do you choose to, to, basically, to remember it to relive it, you
- 1:27:14bring, here's the thing, you bring something back to mine, in
- 1:27:18order to be moved by it. What you bring to mind is to
- 1:27:22shape your behavior. So when he says to Israel, you
- 1:27:26are to remember. He says, Don't Be Afraid.
- 1:27:29How does he tell them? Not to be afraid call to mind
- 1:27:32everything that you saw God do? What is that going to create
- 1:27:35within them confidence in their God, what he said, don't be
- 1:27:40afraid. He wasn't saying, okay, you're
- 1:27:43going to feel fear but don't act afraid, you know, people say
- 1:27:46feel the fear and do it. Anyway I said, okay, that's
- 1:27:49true. You can do that is really hard
- 1:27:51to feel the fear and do it. Anyway I have a a saying I said
- 1:27:55you can feel the fear and do it anyway or you can get rid of the
- 1:27:57fear and do it even better. So my thing is, you don't you
- 1:28:02don't have to live in fear and God tells Israel call to mind
- 1:28:07what I have done for you. All that you saw remember the
- 1:28:12plagues. Remember the frogs.
- 1:28:14Remember the darkness? Remember the see splitting call
- 1:28:18all of that to mine so that you will be shaped by what you saw
- 1:28:23my Power at work, that'll put your confidence in me and you
- 1:28:27won't be afraid. That is a strategy that God gave
- 1:28:31yet Faith. He gave them a practical way of
- 1:28:34putting their faith in God because faith is the substance
- 1:28:39of things hoped, for the evidence of things.
- 1:28:41Unseen, it reminds me of David. I forget what it says is the Old
- 1:28:44Testament, but he's out with his men and there's a raid while
- 1:28:48they're gone and they're women or children or Samuel chapter
- 1:28:5130. Yes, there is.
- 1:28:54And Dave come with men in their groomer of his own men, his own
- 1:28:59dudes talking about, we're going to Stone him, we're gonna get
- 1:29:03rid of them and David does something very peculiar that
- 1:29:06most men don't do today. Hmm.
- 1:29:08He goes and gets the ephod and he goes and inquires of the Lord
- 1:29:13like music, you've always been with me.
- 1:29:15I've been on the run, I fought the bear.
- 1:29:18I fought the lion Goliath. Who could forget that, right?
- 1:29:21He's King Saul's. Chasing me.
- 1:29:23He's the But really, I'm the anointed and I won't take it
- 1:29:26until you make it evident. And I'm still on the run in the
- 1:29:29wilderness, but you never left. So, man.
- 1:29:32I'm you got more time with this because this is important for
- 1:29:36me, and for everyone who's going to hear, because this is
- 1:29:40critical. What can I can?
- 1:29:41I can I go back to that story of David?
- 1:29:44And first Samuel. Yes, yes, yes, you're calling
- 1:29:46one of my favorite passages. I love to teach on.
- 1:29:48First Samuel. Chapter 30 verses 1 through 6,
- 1:29:51which are referring to when the hits when the Kites came and
- 1:29:54burned down ziklag. Yes and his men they stay.
- 1:29:58So imagine if they come back, everything's burned to the
- 1:30:01ground. Their wives are gone, their
- 1:30:04children are gone and it said, the men begin to all of them
- 1:30:07began to weep for grief understandable as a normal human
- 1:30:11reaction, right. Then it says, because of their
- 1:30:15grief, they became angry and they began to speak of stoning.
- 1:30:18David. So, now they're starting to
- 1:30:21blame David for what has happened, and it says that David
- 1:30:25was afraid and I always say, well, my son, if my men spoke of
- 1:30:29spoke of stoning me, I'd be afraid to.
- 1:30:31So they talked about killing him.
- 1:30:33Now, you talk about the ephod, but there's one crucial piece
- 1:30:36that happens. Right?
- 1:30:38Before that, it said David was afraid.
- 1:30:40But then the next verse says, David encouraged himself in the
- 1:30:45Lord, his God. Then he saw, and I always tell
- 1:30:50people, I said, notice what it says it does not say and the
- 1:30:53Lord came and encourage David. It says, David encouraged
- 1:30:57himself in the Lord his God or you can read encourage or
- 1:31:01strengthen. But he strengthened himself
- 1:31:03which which and I use, I teach this one of the princes, what we
- 1:31:06teach is that your emotions are not determined by what happens
- 1:31:09outside of you, your emotions are determined by what happens
- 1:31:12within you. And so, David encouraged himself
- 1:31:17in the midst of a situation where his men are speaking of
- 1:31:21killing him, the village is burned down in the midst of all
- 1:31:25of this David encouraged himself because there's no one left to
- 1:31:29encourage him. David changed, his emotional
- 1:31:32state, in the midst of the devastation, it enabled him to
- 1:31:36make the right decision. Remember we said before when you
- 1:31:38are in negative, emotional states, it can cause you to make
- 1:31:42the wrong decisions, right? Right, you your creativity gets
- 1:31:46shut down your resourcefulness. Get shut down David's men
- 1:31:50because of the negative emotional state.
- 1:31:52They were in wanted to kill him. Hmm, David, it says,
- 1:31:57strengthened himself in the Lord, then he sought the Lord.
- 1:32:00And the Lord said, he said, shall I pursue God said pursue,
- 1:32:04you will recover all if you read the rest of the story, David
- 1:32:07pursued, they recovered everything plus more.
- 1:32:12Here's the thing to me, that is a great example of emotional,
- 1:32:14intelligence and Leadership, but here's the thing, think about
- 1:32:19this, wow, if David's men had killed him out of the mm
- 1:32:25negative emotional state that they were in, they would have
- 1:32:28lost everything that they later recovered, they never would have
- 1:32:32recovered it and they killed David.
- 1:32:35But because David strengthened himself changed, his emotional
- 1:32:39state, sought the Lord that enabled them to recover
- 1:32:42everything. So, this is why I believe it is
- 1:32:44so important for us to know how to manage our emotional
- 1:32:49well-being. Because it determines there's a,
- 1:32:52there's a, there's a quote, as I say, determines our quality of
- 1:32:56life, there's a quote, from a psychologist who passed away
- 1:32:59last year, his name is mihaly csikszentmihalyi, he was a
- 1:33:03psychologist. He Was the originator of the
- 1:33:06concept of flow like you when you when we talk about being in
- 1:33:10the flow you don't athletes are in the floor in the zone.
- 1:33:14He studied that he studied it scientifically.
- 1:33:17He said in his book flow is called the book is called flow,
- 1:33:20the psychology of optimal experience.
- 1:33:22He said, people he's at the people who learn to control
- 1:33:27their inner experience, will be able to determine the quality of
- 1:33:31their lives. That right there in a nutshell,
- 1:33:37that's the work that I do. It's helping people to control
- 1:33:40their inner experience, so that they're able to determine the
- 1:33:44quality of their lives. David in that story.
- 1:33:48In first Samuel controlled his inner experience and it affected
- 1:33:53the quality of his life because they were able.
- 1:33:55He got clear-headed enough to seek God.
- 1:33:59And his leadership LED not only to the recovery of everything,
- 1:34:04but they got even more. But had his men killed him out
- 1:34:09of anger, although mr. They would have lost it.
- 1:34:12All in never would have recovered anything.
- 1:34:14So do our enduring, our our our, our emotions, important to the
- 1:34:19quality of life that we live. Absolutely.
- 1:34:21Absolutely. Now talk about as Christians,
- 1:34:23there it is. Important to that to the quality
- 1:34:25of our Christian Life. Just just because I'm like, I'm
- 1:34:28skipping to these places in my brain was like that's on the
- 1:34:31back burner because God, I know someday you're going to make
- 1:34:34sense of it, right? And we recovered a lot of these
- 1:34:37things. But if there's some personal
- 1:34:41things like when I think of like the discipline of the Lord, like
- 1:34:44doing the Lord disciplines those who he loves, I don't know what
- 1:34:50that is supposed to mean like from Biblical standpoint or from
- 1:34:53like just a very understood standpoint but I know like
- 1:34:57Personally, for me, I have gotten to a place where I know
- 1:35:03what the word says. And this is an old, he's like a
- 1:35:06couple times where I've had this connection that, that you're
- 1:35:11kind of putting words to and helping me to understand some of
- 1:35:13these pockets of of our life. Like him working, innocent Drew
- 1:35:18us to cost as well to come about.
- 1:35:20It didn't happen overnight and it's not happening overnight for
- 1:35:23me, it is a process but There's times where I'll know I had read
- 1:35:30and knew the scripture said, like, don't look at a woman with
- 1:35:35lust in your heart. You commit adultery already has
- 1:35:37like many riding around, like, oh, geez, right?
- 1:35:40That's really bad. You know, this is gonna be hard,
- 1:35:44right? I can't go to the gym this week,
- 1:35:45guys, you know, the routine. Cognitively.
- 1:35:49And in our mind, we know, but then aligning our will and our
- 1:35:55emotion all in sync. There's certain things were in
- 1:36:00my private life. I knew like it was like a flash
- 1:36:03in my mind. This is what the scripture says
- 1:36:06and then there was a check of my will my motive.
- 1:36:09Mmm? And because there's times where
- 1:36:11I didn't listen, and I understood those moments where I
- 1:36:14was alone with the God and it was just reread.
- 1:36:18Stir in like you didn't you weren't obedient in this little
- 1:36:21thing like that happen. Bear in the long and and you
- 1:36:23need to learn that that's not a good outcome that I actually
- 1:36:27would start to like make sense to me.
- 1:36:30Become alive to me. I was like God, your will not
- 1:36:32mine and I'd say stuff, like, every time I get the ball, I
- 1:36:35wreck this like, I'm not me doing it.
- 1:36:39My way is not working, married, seven years and my wife's in the
- 1:36:43other room, probably can hear this and his giggling as I'm
- 1:36:46even talking, because it's so true.
- 1:36:48Hmm. And then my emotion.
- 1:36:51Do I want to please God. Do I want his outcome in my
- 1:36:54life. It's just so weird to hear.
- 1:36:56You say it from like, like reversing the systematic
- 1:37:01desensitization from the enemy in the world and absolutely
- 1:37:05plugging in realistic like terms and training strategies plans,
- 1:37:12that you can actually start to go.
- 1:37:14I'm sharpening in this way and right for this to be the the
- 1:37:18outcome because if in my experience and I don't know much
- 1:37:23but but When we want to serve God, when Christ is like, we're
- 1:37:28not just like, Oh I'm a Christian and I'm doing
- 1:37:30everything. The world's doing when we're
- 1:37:31really trying to be holy as he is, Holy trying to be set apart
- 1:37:34failing, terribly. In my case.
- 1:37:38The I feel like man you shouldn't have said that that
- 1:37:41hurt that person and it's like like it's like my will wants to
- 1:37:45be flipped into like I don't want to ever do that again.
- 1:37:49And then there's like their trauma of if it happens again.
- 1:37:52And I think the enemy then plays on the mental note, you didn't
- 1:37:55get it right last week so we're heading right?
- 1:37:59And this is the battle that me as a man sitting here, talking
- 1:38:03to another man in Christ. This is the stuff I deal with.
- 1:38:06And I'm not alone, right? It's been like my hands down and
- 1:38:10honor to hear you. Share your heart and your
- 1:38:14research, your experience of what God has called you to just
- 1:38:17one body. One, Spirit, many members
- 1:38:20diversity of roles that we play. And I think that's something
- 1:38:23else. I really like to talk with you
- 1:38:26about a down the road to because the old way of doing things
- 1:38:30doesn't work, it out. Your God has showed us that man.
- 1:38:34I got to tell you the word spoke that to me one time.
- 1:38:37When Once years ago, when I was studying all of this, and I had
- 1:38:41come to a lot of insight, it was working for me was working for
- 1:38:44other people, but I still have a little bit of Doubt of God, is
- 1:38:49this, is this, right? This is the right path.
- 1:38:52And I was struggling with it and one night, I went, and I sit on
- 1:38:55this bench and we're by, where I used to live, is little gazebo.
- 1:38:59I said there and the Lord just spoke to me.
- 1:39:02It was a powerful moment, powerful, but he spoke to me and
- 1:39:07basically, the message was you are on the right track.
- 1:39:10Then I heard this. They're going to be people who
- 1:39:14will come to you like Nicodemus in the night pastors many people
- 1:39:20because they're struggling because the old answers or will
- 1:39:24no longer be working. He literally spoke that to my
- 1:39:28heart fast forward, a couple of decades later.
- 1:39:32This is what we see happening. People coming and going I read
- 1:39:35my Bible and pray, I fast, I have people pray over me.
- 1:39:40I had people cast things out of me.
- 1:39:42I'm still Bubbling I thought people come to me and say, do I
- 1:39:45have a demon? I go?
- 1:39:47No, you just walking in the flesh and you to renew your
- 1:39:49money and they go. And they look relieved, to go,
- 1:39:52really? Because they're Believers and
- 1:39:54they've been told they have a demon dog like that.
- 1:39:55You don't have a demon because and the reason they've been told
- 1:39:58as a demon because I said, I've tried and I tried and I tried
- 1:40:00and I tried and I tried and I can't overcome it and I go
- 1:40:03because you're trying to overcome it either at a
- 1:40:04behavioral level You're trying to overcome it at an
- 1:40:08intellectual level. You haven't dealt with the
- 1:40:10emotional of and sometimes dealing with the emotional level
- 1:40:13means I need to deal with stuff. I need to do with my stuff from
- 1:40:17my past. I need to get that cleared up.
- 1:40:20I mean I need to deal with outdated beliefs.
- 1:40:23I work with a guy because one of the things I do is marital
- 1:40:26coaching, we call it. We it's coaching that we do a
- 1:40:28couple's awful, things that I've learned and part of that is
- 1:40:31teaching them to deal with their emotions.
- 1:40:34And I work with a guy, one time who wants to reassure, he was
- 1:40:38having some problems. He was, he was doing some things
- 1:40:40in his marriage that was called in his marriage to fall apart,
- 1:40:44right? So we met he and I we have been
- 1:40:47working together to that point about.
- 1:40:48So you and I need to meet one-on-one.
- 1:40:51I'm gonna find out what it was. He had a belief on the inside of
- 1:40:54him. That said, there's something
- 1:40:56wrong with me. People always leave me.
- 1:41:01And he had this belief since he was a kid, he had experienced it
- 1:41:05with his parents, hit experience it with one of his brothers get
- 1:41:08experience, it with an old girlfriend, who left him for
- 1:41:11another family member. So he had this belief that there
- 1:41:13was something wrong with him. So his idea was before my why?
- 1:41:19Cuz he would say I don't understand why she's with me.
- 1:41:22She's pretty, she's beautiful. Why is she with me?
- 1:41:24So here's think it was eventually she's going to leave
- 1:41:27me. So when his wife are go out with
- 1:41:29her girlfriends, she was a Godly woman.
- 1:41:31Hugo where you going to do with my girlfriend's?
- 1:41:34He goes, why are you dressed like that?
- 1:41:35You understand that for me? Why are you looking like that?
- 1:41:38Why are you putting on that cologne that perfume?
- 1:41:40He would so he would but it was the fear.
- 1:41:43He had never recognized his. So when we were talking and
- 1:41:46there's a process of asking questions to help to undo
- 1:41:49Unearthed this stuff, we came to that he said, oh my gosh, he
- 1:41:54said, because part of the process was I said, I said, how
- 1:41:59are you? How do you feel when you're in
- 1:42:00the he says, I just feel like, I don't know.
- 1:42:03I just like I don't understand why I said will stay with that.
- 1:42:05Feeling for a second, I go in order to feel this way.
- 1:42:09What do you have to believe is true?
- 1:42:12He stopped for a moment and he went.
- 1:42:15There's something wrong with me and that's why people leave me
- 1:42:17and he Tears. Start coming.
- 1:42:19He said I never realized that before, so we change that
- 1:42:23belief. We re-establish it with the
- 1:42:25truth of God. Part of it was finding his honor
- 1:42:30in God, we established his honoring.
- 1:42:33God one session, I'm not kidding.
- 1:42:35You one session, it changed his life, his marriage turned around
- 1:42:40his wife, testified to it. When they were coming to me for
- 1:42:44murder coaching, they were sent to me by their Pastor, who's a
- 1:42:46friend of mine and I later interviewed them and I said,
- 1:42:51when you first came to me on a scale of 1 to 10, how bad was
- 1:42:54your marriage, the wife said 20, I said really she goes, she
- 1:43:00said, she said, we were on the edge and I was getting ready to
- 1:43:03push him off. And I met with them for a year.
- 1:43:09Mmm work with them. Work through a lot of emotion,
- 1:43:12taught them, how to deal with their own emotions.
- 1:43:14He had that breakthrough, totally turned around everything
- 1:43:17around. Hmm.
- 1:43:20And I said to them, the very first day we met, probably, this
- 1:43:22is from the Lord. I said, you guys are going to be
- 1:43:24working with married, okay? Married couples.
- 1:43:27And they looked at me, like, I had two heads.
- 1:43:29They're like, we don't even like each other and you're talking
- 1:43:31about us, you know what she said?
- 1:43:32I don't like him right now. I love him, but I don't like
- 1:43:34him. Today, this is like five years
- 1:43:37later. They are the head of the
- 1:43:41marriage, Ministry at their Church.
- 1:43:44They had a marriage conference. They invited me to be their
- 1:43:47guest speaker, and they're doing a marriage retreat in Hawaii.
- 1:43:51I think this year and I told him, I said, why wasn't I
- 1:43:55invited to that one? That's the one I really want to
- 1:43:59go to Wills involved. My emotions evolved
- 1:44:04intellectually, but it was always changing the emotional
- 1:44:10level at the level and finding out what was wrong and making
- 1:44:14that Shit. A lot of people are doing things
- 1:44:18Christians that they don't want to do, and they're told to stop
- 1:44:22doing it and they're trying but they don't understand that they
- 1:44:25are living in Romans 7, the good that I would.
- 1:44:28I do not the evil that I would not, that is what I'm doing, who
- 1:44:32will deliver me? And people are telling them what
- 1:44:34Jesus Will, and it's true. And I tell people said, listen,
- 1:44:38the tools are just instruments in means by which God can work
- 1:44:41to affect your renewing of your mind.
- 1:44:44That's a, the he is the source of the healing, he is the source
- 1:44:47of the transformation. The tools are just means by
- 1:44:50which he can work, but they are told you need to stop doing
- 1:44:54this. You need to stop doing the and
- 1:44:55they use, the are told it at the behavioral level or the
- 1:44:58cognitive intellectual level. And I'll say there's one.
- 1:45:01Last thing I was praying one day and about this about Temptation
- 1:45:06after there's two things. I like to say, if you don't mind
- 1:45:09one is what I was thinking about Temptation.
- 1:45:12And I believe the Lord showed me he says I was studying this one
- 1:45:15else. I think about Jesus Temptation
- 1:45:17and I was meditating on the Temptation, I think it's Mark
- 1:45:20for Luke 4. And the worst are show me says,
- 1:45:22when my people are tempted by the enemy, Satan tempts you at
- 1:45:29the intellectual and the emotional of thoughts to the
- 1:45:33mind which stirs up emotions, right?
- 1:45:36He's about when my people respond to the Temptation, they
- 1:45:39only respond intellectually. And they leave the emotions out.
- 1:45:44This is why we struggle because our thoughts are going one way
- 1:45:49our will maybe going. I want to do what's right, but
- 1:45:51our emotions are going the opposite direction.
- 1:45:53And Jesus enunciated a principal.
- 1:45:55He says A house divided against itself.
- 1:45:58Will fall. You can't stand people sometimes
- 1:46:02when I teach them as they go. Well, aren't you motion aren't
- 1:46:04emotions unreliable? We've always been taught.
- 1:46:06Emotions are unreliable, you can't count on your emotion, I
- 1:46:08go. If that's true.
- 1:46:10Why is that the number one weapon of the enemy against us?
- 1:46:12I think about it. What is James say about
- 1:46:15Temptation. Every man, when he is, tempted
- 1:46:18is drawn away by his own King, James has less but the word
- 1:46:21actually in Greek is desire. He is drawn away by his own
- 1:46:25desire. Every Temptation has a feeling
- 1:46:28emotional desire involved. If you take the feeling emotion
- 1:46:32and desire out of a Temptation, out of it, out of the
- 1:46:34Temptation, it ceases to be a Temptation.
- 1:46:37Yeah, if you came to me said, Mike, want a cigarette would
- 1:46:40mean nothing to me. I don't, I've never If you said
- 1:46:43Mike, want some crack with mean anything to me because I've
- 1:46:46never done drugs. If you came to me, said Mike was
- 1:46:49some dryers French, vanilla ice cream.
- 1:46:50Now, we got a problem. Now I'm like, oh, get behind me,
- 1:46:57you know, donut, no, we got a problem.
- 1:47:01Why there is emotion and desire into that?
- 1:47:05There is none link to cigarettes cocaine, alcohol.
- 1:47:09You could throw alcohol in front of me all day long.
- 1:47:11And I said, one drink, I call them said, I don't drink, but if
- 1:47:15you were say, I come on. Come on, let's get drunk.
- 1:47:17It would hold no appeal to me whatsoever, but if you hold a
- 1:47:20box of glazed doughnuts in front of me, now, I gotta walk in the
- 1:47:23spirit. Got to apply some tool to walk
- 1:47:27away from that. You'd get the point that I'm
- 1:47:29making emotional much. So, save me, utilizes our own
- 1:47:34emotions against us. That's why I told people, I go
- 1:47:36people go, oh, they're unreliable our goal yet.
- 1:47:39Every time you're tempted, and if you're tempted in the same
- 1:47:42thing over and over, it's funny how reliable those emotions are.
- 1:47:46It's a mass training. If you train, unreliable
- 1:47:50emotions are emotions that have not been trained.
- 1:47:56And I'll leave it at that. Tell, tell my listeners where
- 1:48:01they can find you. Like, if you have a show, do you
- 1:48:04have a website? We actually going to be starting
- 1:48:07a podcast pretty soon called for the Christian Community.
- 1:48:11I believe we're going to call it the flourishing life and we're
- 1:48:14going to be talking about all of these things.
- 1:48:16I did a whole series at our church called on, we called it
- 1:48:20success and prosperity of Kingdom perspective, when we
- 1:48:21talk about the concept of flourishing and looked at, you
- 1:48:25know, what does the world say? What are some a buret teachings
- 1:48:27in the body of Christ? What is the Bible?
- 1:48:29A really say, you know, so we're looking to start soon.
- 1:48:34I need is actually set a date for it, but we're going to be
- 1:48:36doing a podcast for the Christian Community called the
- 1:48:40flourishing life. We do trainings, there's a
- 1:48:43training, we have called Sanctified emotions, which is
- 1:48:47emotional intelligence for Christians.
- 1:48:50We actually have a coaching certification program called New
- 1:48:54Creation coaching where we certify people to be coaches to
- 1:48:57work with Christians and weave. Train them in the different
- 1:49:00tools and stuff that I use that we created that we've done two
- 1:49:02of those so far. And there's another train we do
- 1:49:04call patterns for renewing the mind which is another
- 1:49:07certification people can find me primary same way you did go on
- 1:49:11Facebook with me up you know, Mike Davis, they can type I
- 1:49:16think it's www. Huh.
- 1:49:20Mike, I think I'll of us here. We cut out.
- 1:49:24Yeah, we found it for a second. Yeah, I can hear you now.
- 1:49:26Can you hear me? Can you hear me now?
- 1:49:30Okay? Yes, you're back.
- 1:49:31You're back. Yeah.
- 1:49:32Sorry about that. Yeah, but they can reach me on
- 1:49:34Facebook. There's look up.
- 1:49:36Mike Davis, we have a YouTube channel called kic TV.
- 1:49:42I think we're freezing up again. Can you hear me?
- 1:49:45We froze up. One more time can hear me now?
- 1:49:47Yes, it's gonna happen. Didn't it out.
- 1:49:50Yeah. Maybe he's telling us, we need
- 1:49:51to quit, but we have a YouTube channel called kic TV.
- 1:49:55It's is keeping it in context TV with my day.
- 1:49:58Davis. Why do a lot of Biblical
- 1:49:59teaching on different topics and we look at it within historical
- 1:50:02cultural context? Look at the Greek, the Hebrew
- 1:50:05ancient near Eastern culture but we make it interest.
- 1:50:07You have told you I don't do boring, we make it interesting
- 1:50:09and fun to learn and so we also can be starting another YouTube
- 1:50:15channel and podcast where we're talking, we're going to be
- 1:50:17talking about emotions, renewing the Mind success from a Biblical
- 1:50:20perspective, which I like to use the term flourishing.
- 1:50:24Like, because what, I'm a big believer in that, is that
- 1:50:26success is not really something that you To pursue is something
- 1:50:29that you live. It's a way of living rather than
- 1:50:31a weight then rather than something you pursue.
- 1:50:34Yeah. And has to do with what I call
- 1:50:36the flourishing life that God wants us to flourish but has to
- 1:50:39do more with how we lived and what we then what we acquire you
- 1:50:43know. So but yeah they can reach me on
- 1:50:46Facebook as the door they can write me.
- 1:50:48I'll give you my email address, it's MLD training.
- 1:50:53So m is in mykel isn't lying these and dog MLD training at
- 1:50:57msn.com. Mom.
- 1:51:00Yeah, it was an honor that was an absolute link you.
- 1:51:03This is fun. Love to have you back for a part
- 1:51:072 in this spring beginning of summer this year.
- 1:51:12And that's it. That's the show everybody.
- 1:51:15I know this was edifying because it's edifying for me if you
- 1:51:20learned something If this causes you to laugh and just just think
- 1:51:24different about the way that you're living and what gods were
- 1:51:30and the tools he's given us. Then I want you to share this
- 1:51:36with a friend, a family member share this with your past coming
- 1:51:42to you from Southeastern Pennsylvania.
- 1:51:44God Bless America and goodbye. Thank you for letting me indulge
- 1:52:16myself. I know I go off.
- 1:52:18There is absolutely. Let me call my wife a real
- 1:52:21quick. I just want to say hi.
- 1:52:35Oh yes. Yeah, it's time to I'm three
- 1:52:42hours ahead of you, right, right.
- 1:52:43But we've been married seven years.
- 1:52:46Cool. My son's.
- 1:52:49He turns six on Friday. So we got a little dude.
- 1:52:54First first year in kindergarten this year, it has been rough.
- 1:52:58But my wife, she's actually been in the country.
- 1:53:00For I like to see 12 almost 13 years, she's actually from the
- 1:53:06Philippines. Wow, You can see that that's a
- 1:53:10picture of me and her glare on it or not I see it as a sort of
- 1:53:15restaurant is time Russia but it's fascinating because, you
- 1:53:21know, I like I said, I grew up outside of Philadelphia and I
- 1:53:23just knew like this culture, you know, like did you yet and how
- 1:53:27you do it, right? It does culture and she was a
- 1:53:31shock. She was like, wow.
- 1:53:35Like like just I'm like what you live how and you carry yourself
- 1:53:41in what way and one of the things that attracted me to her
- 1:53:44so much and one of the things she says about me is about
- 1:53:49honest was that I have twins that are there going to be 16
- 1:53:53years old. Hmm, out of wedlock.
- 1:53:55You know, I was, I was young, I was very young.
- 1:53:58I was 18 almost turning 19 when we have by the in Siena
- 1:54:02fraternal twins and very worthy work.
- 1:54:07Relationship worldly everything but it's she what God has been
- 1:54:11teaching me through my wife. Like I wasn't allowed in her
- 1:54:16mother's house to like and the we're engaged culture shock.
- 1:54:22Like for me I'm like well I respect it because I got my
- 1:54:25heart broken it on my God, I'm celibate for a little while and
- 1:54:29you know coming to the Lord at that 24 years old.
- 1:54:32So I started to change as mistakes, but it's not hard to
- 1:54:35change this go. The more I get this right, you
- 1:54:41know. I don't want to I don't want to
- 1:54:42die in all of this. But anyway, she's been on.
- 1:54:47She's been quite a rock and, you know, a challenge and just just
- 1:54:52causing me to forcing me to see things differently.
- 1:54:55Like, because she's done America night.
- 1:54:58I tell people, she's on Americanized.
- 1:55:00And like, what do you mean by that?
- 1:55:01I'm like, you know, if you know, we don't know ourselves, we
- 1:55:06right. And there's so many Loose Ends
- 1:55:15especially biblically in like from a man who's terribly flawed
- 1:55:20like, where I'm at and what I know God wants me to be holy as
- 1:55:25he is Holy. I know I'm not living whole, you
- 1:55:28know, I still am wrestling and dealing like I smoke cigars, my
- 1:55:32wife, who eats it and that's one of the like the last Frontiers.
- 1:55:36Whereas I don't I'm a drink in, I never intervene it.
- 1:55:39Like, did hard drugs or nothing like that, you know, I partied
- 1:55:42when I was younger, but I'm like that's so hard to quit these
- 1:55:47smoking these little cigars and you're saying stuff from this
- 1:55:49episode tonight, where I'm like, My will you're my intellect.
- 1:55:56I like by does all this stuff has to line up but I'm like why
- 1:56:01are we not talk to think that way?
- 1:56:06That's why I say things like systematic desensitization.
- 1:56:09Yeah yeah get like some secret backdoor to Christianity
- 1:56:15Christians. You actually got it, right?
- 1:56:17And then there's all of us out here who need help.
- 1:56:20Yeah, I'm telling you. That that was me.
- 1:56:23I when I started with, I was like, why are we not told?
- 1:56:27And then I realized is because nobody else knew we didn't know,
- 1:56:30you know, and the way like I said, we had a we've had a bad
- 1:56:34theology about emotion. Matter of fact there was a guy
- 1:56:38named Martin Seligman, he was the past president of the
- 1:56:42American Psychological Association when he became the
- 1:56:46president. He gave his inaugural address
- 1:56:49and he said in Gee, we've been studying maladaptive emotions
- 1:56:55from almost the beginning of psychology, many new study,
- 1:56:58anger, and rage and depression, is that we just studied all the
- 1:57:02negative emotions. He said we need to start
- 1:57:05studying positive emotions, and the impact that they have.
- 1:57:08A, how do we nurture? And I was surprised when I heard
- 1:57:11his own, wait, a minute psychologist that hasn't been
- 1:57:13there, that wasn't their focus. So that began began a whole
- 1:57:17movement in Psychology called positive psychology.
- 1:57:21That's been going on now. Now, for about 25, 30 years.
- 1:57:24Okay, I remember when it started and when I heard him say that I
- 1:57:28went, that's the same problem. We've had in Christianity, we
- 1:57:31have studied the - if you it, when II started collecting books
- 1:57:37by Christians, by Christian therapists and psychologists,
- 1:57:40most of them dealt with their things.
- 1:57:41Like how to get over a hanger, how to get over lust, how to get
- 1:57:45over depression. There was nothing about how do
- 1:57:48you cultivate or I should say, there's nothing.
- 1:57:49There was very little on. How do you cultivate?
- 1:57:52They Joy, are you cultivate? Peace.
- 1:57:54How do you? And then there was, there was
- 1:57:56absolutely nothing on. How do you utilize your emotions
- 1:58:00to change your emotions. There is nothing on that and
- 1:58:04I'll be honest with you, they're still really nothing on that
- 1:58:07that that's we've gotten better in the body of Christ.
- 1:58:10I've been tracking it for the past 30 years we've gotten
- 1:58:14better. We were talking about emotions
- 1:58:16down the church. We're talking about things we
- 1:58:18struggle with but I said, but we still got some catching up to
- 1:58:21do. There are there are things that
- 1:58:23I know I do. And I'm not a therapist, I tell
- 1:58:25people that. I'm not a therapist.
- 1:58:27I'm not a counselor. I'm a coach.
- 1:58:29That's what. And I said, I'm a pastor and I'm
- 1:58:30a coach but I have actually trained therapist and what I do
- 1:58:35because they're like, what are you doing?
- 1:58:37How are you? So, I've had therapist come to
- 1:58:39my training so that they can learn my tools and strategies
- 1:58:43that I've learned from other people and because they and I I
- 1:58:47have a couple of friends who are counselors.
- 1:58:50They're licensed Who knew me mm0?
- 1:58:54I'm sorry. I don't mean to keep you man.
- 1:58:56I know you got to go. No, no, I'm hanging onto it.
- 1:58:59Like I'm loving. It's one of those things.
- 1:59:01Like I I've been up since 4:00 a.m. so forgive you and it a
- 1:59:05little bit but I have offered a next five days.
- 1:59:08That's why. I was like totally cool with
- 1:59:09this late interview because I'm doing a training this past
- 1:59:13weekend. We get up at four in the
- 1:59:15morning. We start at 4:30 minutes.
- 1:59:22Degrees and counseling. Okay, I have another friend who
- 1:59:27has a master's degree in counseling.
- 1:59:28All three of them told me that they were not really taught how
- 1:59:32to help people to change. They spent all I said, yes, but
- 1:59:36you spent all this money and they go, I know.
- 1:59:38But I was not two of them, I have personally trained and they
- 1:59:41get the intellect, they get intellect, intellect, intellect
- 1:59:44from school, my will, in the emotion, yet, one of my friends
- 1:59:49is a really cool to. He's a pastoral, he's in charge
- 1:59:53of pastoral care at a church in Minnesota.
- 1:59:57L. Can he told me?
- 1:59:58He said, Mike, he said what you and Bob Bob was my partners in
- 2:00:02this guy who trained me. He said, what Mike taught me.
- 2:00:05He said we learn any of that in my class is that we didn't learn
- 2:00:08any of that and I go really, I said, what did you learn?
- 2:00:11He said, we were taught models of change but we were not taught
- 2:00:15how to help people to change. Oh wait, you're kidding me.
- 2:00:18I'm working with a young lady. Now who's a therapist she when I
- 2:00:23first met her she saw me on somebody's interview.
- 2:00:25She said, can I contact you as a?
- 2:00:27Yeah. So we taught and I showed her a
- 2:00:30simple tool to help people and release negative emotions She's
- 2:00:34like oh my gosh she said you just giving me something to help
- 2:00:37my client. She said, cause sometimes I work
- 2:00:39with my clients, all this emotion gets stirred up but then
- 2:00:42I don't know what to do with all these emotions that get stirred
- 2:00:44up. So they leave my session with
- 2:00:47all these emotions. And I was like, oh, that's
- 2:00:49terrible because I never when I have clients, always tell them.
- 2:00:52I said, I will never leave you worse than when you came in.
- 2:00:55Never, I do not do that. I've heard that there are a lot
- 2:00:58of therapists who do that. They'll stir up all these
- 2:01:00emotions. Then I go.
- 2:01:01Well, our time is up, I'll see you next week.
- 2:01:04Take a double dose of your medicine for the next three
- 2:01:07days. So that you don't know, man.
- 2:01:09Tell me you and I respect their opinions but some of the what I
- 2:01:13realized they have the tool so I share with the generator for let
- 2:01:15me show you a simple tool. She shared it with her client.
- 2:01:19She said, she said my client called me back said, man, this
- 2:01:21is this is made such a difference.
- 2:01:23I thank God for this. She said, when I get depressed,
- 2:01:26now I know how to release it. Let It Go.
- 2:01:28But I don't get stirred up and she ended therapist was thanking
- 2:01:30me. She said, thank you.
- 2:01:31You shown me a way of helping my Ants and now so she wants to
- 2:01:35take the training with me. She says let me know when you're
- 2:01:37doing a training, I got another therapist who wants to join the
- 2:01:39training. So so so what does that training
- 2:01:43look like if I was like I mean we're three hours differences.
- 2:01:46It's online obviously? Right?
- 2:01:48Yeah. We do it first and only or one
- 2:01:51of them is what we call a hybrid approach.
- 2:01:53It is. Okay.
- 2:01:54Part of its online. That's the patterns for
- 2:01:56Renewing, Your Mind part of its online.
- 2:01:59Part of it. It's, we make face to fit, well,
- 2:02:01we weren't doing it during the pandemic.
- 2:02:03So we actually, I didn't even Trainees during the pandemic
- 2:02:05because we're doing so many other ones.
- 2:02:09The other two are online though, and we normally do the.
- 2:02:12So the Sanctified emotions one, which is for your personal and
- 2:02:15then the, the coach certification, which is for
- 2:02:18working with other people. Those two are done all online,
- 2:02:24they're all online. We usually be using meet once a
- 2:02:27week for about two hours in the evening and you get practices.
- 2:02:32Then we sometimes we do extra Shinzon the weekend where we
- 2:02:36meet together we talked about how is it working for you?
- 2:02:39There's not working right? Like there are coaches that I
- 2:02:41still work with in terms of like they'll get it could.
- 2:02:45Hey Mike I'm working with this person and so I approached this
- 2:02:49because I've been doing this. Hmm, I've been doing the
- 2:02:51coaching part for over 20 years. The guy like 20 years experience
- 2:02:54and so I go. Okay, did you try this?
- 2:02:57Did you do this? They go?
- 2:02:58No, I didn't ask. Okay, try that.
- 2:02:59Let me know how it works so I consult with them.
- 2:03:01Hmm, you know? And so we do that too.
- 2:03:04So I With my coaches. Some of them are they've been
- 2:03:06coaches for a while. Some of them are new.
- 2:03:08So I go I walk with you I you know hold your hand for long as
- 2:03:12you need most. I think it's necessary to help
- 2:03:15you get started. Help you in working with people
- 2:03:18because I tell him I said once you learn the skills that
- 2:03:20doesn't mean you're an expert that just means you know, the
- 2:03:22skills becoming an expert takes time, you know, training the
- 2:03:26training course. Yeah.
- 2:03:28Because those aren't our coaches, our coaches training is
- 2:03:32over fifteen week period. So we meet Once a week.
- 2:03:35Yeah. And you get about two hours,
- 2:03:37that's two hours of the actual time, and then the extra
- 2:03:40meetings we have, but because I want to make sure people are
- 2:03:42thoroughly trained, but you keep training actual tools to help
- 2:03:46people to change. So we show them how to do it.
- 2:03:49We show them how to ask good questions, how to listen, what
- 2:03:52we're getting ready to do next, is create a because I've we've
- 2:03:56had a lot of success with helping marry couples.
- 2:03:59We're going to do a training on how to work out a coach married
- 2:04:02couples. So because a friend, Of my one
- 2:04:05of the coaches I trained. She said are you going to do a
- 2:04:06training on how to work with couples?
- 2:04:08Oh wait, no, I said the train I gave you guys.
- 2:04:10She says, no, no, you do something different.
- 2:04:12I hear you talking about it. She said I thought about went.
- 2:04:15Yeah, I do kind of do some things differently there so but
- 2:04:18we but in the trainees we talk about two things, we talk about
- 2:04:21principles and patterns. We talked about the principles
- 2:04:24of change and then we show you the patterns of the strategies
- 2:04:28to help people change and we do it all from a Biblical
- 2:04:30perspective. I have closed until it was a
- 2:04:34neuroscientific perspective where he said, well said, I have
- 2:04:37a lot to learn. I thank God, I'll say this in
- 2:04:42close. I thank God for the path you
- 2:04:44take. It was difficult in the early
- 2:04:45years. I didn't know if I was going
- 2:04:47down the wrong path but what it made me do was study very hard
- 2:04:52and in depth now I get people coming to me having questions
- 2:04:57like oh well what about this? What about this?
- 2:04:59How does this fit with scripture?
- 2:05:00I go. Oh it's okay let's talk about
- 2:05:02That It Go like, oh my God. You really, I've had, I had a, I
- 2:05:05had a psychologist. One time who was struggling with
- 2:05:09being a psychologist, because he was a Christian.
- 2:05:12And he said, he's at my family, condemns me for being a
- 2:05:15psychologist. They said, I'm not trusting God,
- 2:05:18so I sat down with him at lunch one day, let me share with you
- 2:05:20what God showed with me, and he started crying.
- 2:05:24And he said, you've helped me in 30 minutes more than I've been
- 2:05:27helped in a long time. Is it just by sharing your
- 2:05:29journey? So, I look at what I've In
- 2:05:32through that God is now he's now using it to help other people.
- 2:05:37And so I'm very grateful. Keep him what you told me to
- 2:05:45keep doing it. When you are to thank you for
- 2:05:59having me on your podcast.
