- 0:01Happy Thursday morning, everybody.
- 0:07I learned a lot yesterday. On Wednesday, I did coffee with
- 0:12Kenny. We talked about my new Toyota
- 0:16Tundra right there. We talked all about it and then
- 0:23we talked a little NASCAR. But what surprised me was the
- 0:30pickup truck became the topic of conversation.
- 0:37I quickly learned that when you talk with people about something
- 0:43everybody you know can talk about like, you know, I got a
- 0:47car, everybody's got a car. So we talked about it.
- 0:52Quickly there became an argument about the most American made
- 0:57vehicle. So that is today's topic of
- 1:01conversation. Did you know if you Google right
- 1:05now and you say the most American made truck, do you know
- 1:11what it is? Because I do.
- 1:13I know what the most American made truck is.
- 1:17It's a Honda. Oh my God, it's a Honda.
- 1:25A Honda is the most American made truck.
- 1:28And I think I said to myself, hell, I've never seen a Honda.
- 1:32So after I did coffee with Kenny yesterday, I went up to Channel
- 1:362 to do a nice little interview. And as I'm going up, sure
- 1:40enough, there's a Gray Honda pickup truck.
- 1:43And I just looked and I thought, oh, it's probably like a Nissan.
- 1:46I'm like, Nope, it's a Honda. So I got to tell you a story
- 1:55about pickup trucks. Let's take a drink of coffee.
- 1:57You'll love this story, or maybe you won't.
- 2:04I'm thinking that you all and myself, we were formed.
- 2:10You know what? When you're, when you're a, when
- 2:12you're a child, you're molded, right?
- 2:14So if your family's got Chevrolets like mine did back in
- 2:17the day, it's like I'm a Chevrolet guy.
- 2:21I was born in 1963 about one mile down the road here, grew up
- 2:27in Arnold, MO, and I'll never forget being a kid like I'm a
- 2:32Chevrolet guy. Chevrolet.
- 2:35Well, as I grew up, I got a little wiser.
- 2:38You know, there's an old saying, be careful.
- 2:43Don't get too close to your heroes or friends.
- 2:48They'll disappoint you. So through my racing career,
- 2:56I've been very, very lucky and I know it.
- 3:00But I grew up so middle class, didn't have anything that
- 3:04whatever I get nowadays, I deserve it.
- 3:07I deserve everything I get because I put I put my time in,
- 3:12I paid my dues and I give a lot of money away to everybody.
- 3:15So I give money away. I take care of everybody.
- 3:18I love the Lord so I deserve what I get too.
- 3:22I told my wife the other day, don't be so humble that you're
- 3:26down on yourself all the time. I was teasing my wife.
- 3:30We went to bed. I said look at me and say I am
- 3:32awesome. She would've said.
- 3:35I said look at me. She looked and I said say I am
- 3:39awesome. Positive mental attitude.
- 3:44I don't buy into that where you demean yourself to act humble.
- 3:48I'm humble. I'm very humble.
- 3:51I ask anybody around me. All right, So I bought the
- 3:54pickup truck that I wanted to because I am awesome and I
- 4:00deserve it. It reminds me of this Saturday
- 4:03Night Live skit. So this story right here, a
- 4:08puncher right in the mouth. It's it's unbelievable and it is
- 4:11so true. It's unreal.
- 4:13I have a dear friend. His name is Lauren Wright.
- 4:17Lauren right now has dementia, and he's alive and I love him so
- 4:23much, and I miss him so much. And he remembers me every once
- 4:29in a while. It kind of goes in and out.
- 4:31So whoever's listen to this and knows my buddy Lauren Wright,
- 4:35please know that we grew up as children together.
- 4:38Truly one of my lifelong friends of life.
- 4:42Probably my Lauren's my oldest friend ever, I think.
- 4:45Yeah, I think he is. So anyway, Lauren is, is a good
- 4:50union man. Work for Laclede gas.
- 4:53It's called Spire now. But and I, we always had fun
- 4:59with that. You know how great unions are.
- 5:02And Lauren would teach me a lot. He'd say, yeah, he says, man,
- 5:05we, we had this one speaker and he and he stood up in front of
- 5:09everybody and he says, guys, it's too late for me, but it's
- 5:15not too late for you. Put your money away.
- 5:19You know they teach you that in the union.
- 5:22Put your money away. Match your 4O1K and Lauren.
- 5:25Lauren did it and Lauren has a nice little nest egg.
- 5:29Put away. This is what Lauren told me.
- 5:32His wife's Terry and all the kids are watching this right
- 5:34now. I love you guys.
- 5:36I love the Wright family. They're wonderful people.
- 5:39So anyway, you know, Lauren is rah rah and me too.
- 5:45I'm we're all, we're flying the American flag.
- 5:47We love America. Now, mind you, I'm a race car
- 5:54driver and I've drove for all these, you know, I've drove for
- 5:57Ford, Chevrolet, Pontiac, Toyota, and they've all been
- 6:03wonderful to me. All the automakers, they're
- 6:06wonderful and I love them all. I truly do.
- 6:10I love Chevrolet, I love Ford. Pontiac's gone.
- 6:13They were bad ass. So anyway, me and my buddy
- 6:18Lauren, we're talking about America, and I'm sitting here,
- 6:22you know, sipping my coffee. I said, Lauren, you know how
- 6:27much I love you, right? Oh yeah, man, we tied.
- 6:30I said, do me a favor, open to the door.
- 6:34Open the door to that brand new Chevrolet pickup truck you just
- 6:37bought. And I said right there it will
- 6:39say made in. So Lauren goes over there, opens
- 6:45the door to his nice new Chevrolet pickup truck, and he
- 6:51puts his head down and he turns around.
- 6:53He goes, I said, I already know this mother made in Mexico.
- 7:03I said. I said I got a better one for
- 7:05you. You can open up a lot of doors
- 7:09to these Chevrolet pickup trucks and they're made in Canada.
- 7:13Be careful don't get don't get too close to your heroes.
- 7:18They will disappoint you. So most likely you were born in
- 7:23your your your family and you were molded and Chevrolet and
- 7:27Ford and rah rah, be careful. Don't open up the doors to your
- 7:34vehicles. And then he then you asked
- 7:37yourself, why don't they build these son of a bitches in
- 7:39America? Because they don't want to pay
- 7:44the labor. They go to other countries and
- 7:48they get cheap labor. Be careful, don't get too close
- 7:57to your heroes, they'll disappoint you.
