  Iowa women got a win and they I saw the very similar to what the

  men did a couple of weeks ago. The top 16 overall teams in

  college basketball for the men came out and the Iowa women.

  I think they were sixth, they were 6th.

  Yeah, this kind of surprised me. I mean, everybody talks about

  UCLA and I get it in South Carolina, the UConn, but there
• 1:46
  seem to be been some moments aren't the regular season that
• 1:50
  that I would not have guessed that they would have been the
• 1:51
  6th most highly thought of team in women's college hoops.
• 1:55
  And their resume is incredible and they put together a great
• 1:58
  resume and that is the reason behind it because I'm with you
• 2:01
  and you know, they have. So they do 2 reveals.

  They had the one back on Valentine's Day, I think it was
• 2:07
  when they had their first one and this was the second.

  Where were they then? Do you remember?

  They were 11th and even at that time that was higher than I

  anticipated. I thought they'd be right, the

  fringes maybe more 1314 range at like a a good solid 3-4 seed

  right in there. But yeah, they were at 11 and

  then jumping up. Well, you look what they've done
• 2:24
  recently. Obviously quality victory

  against Michigan's going to go a long way.

  So going into that one, they were just also on the heels of

  the three-game losing streak. They'd stopped it.

  They'd won that game against Washington that Thursday night,

  but they were still not playing their best basketball.

  That was a surprise. Well, since then they have won
• 2:41
  five consecutive games Rd. win against Nebraska, home win
• 2:44
  against Michigan, 2 quality victories in their good wins
• 2:47
  against Nebraska and and and Illinois.

  So the resume keeps getting better.

  And when you talk about them as a whole in comparison to kind of
• 2:55
  the other teams in that range, Iowa is currently seven and five
• 2:59
  against quad one and seven and O against Quad 2A combined 14 and

  5 record. And when you stack them up,

  goes. A long way the.

  LSU's of the world, the other teams in that range, you can
• 3:08
  understand why they're sitting there, even though at times

  maybe doesn't always feel that way.

  I was really surprised and I didn't see the one on

  Valentine's Day. I was on vacation.

  I didn't see it, so it was good for me.

  They and the Big East is bad. I mean, they haven't been

  sweat against anybody in weeks and weeks and weeks.

  And if finally you get into that first time, well, we saw it.

  South Carolina, Iowa, I I know I bring that game up a butt, but

  in the women's side of things, because it was so rare that

  year, that South Carolina team was a behemoth and then down the

  stretch, they just weren't used to it.

  Maybe that'll be the case with UConn.

  before we get into the two locals and and take a look back

  at the Texas Tech win and the Penn State win started on Friday

  night with Illinois hosting Michigan.

  Michigan's just breathing different hair and Illinois is a

  really good team to go throughout the weekend.

  You could see Arkansas get Arkansas.

  You could see Arizona getting Kansas right based on the, you

  know, the fact that recently what what happened to Arizona?

  They had their winning snap. Duke is Duke.

  They're bludgeoning teams. The Virginia.

  at the top of the rankings in college basketball.

  by all the schools down there, Houston, Oklahoma, Texas Tech,

  and no other. None other than Jay Wright

  decides he's going to play for Villanova.

  And then, of course, Jay Wright pulled the rug from underneath

  him by retiring after house committed.

  And then he had two nondescript years of Villanova with that

  train wrecked there, with, I forget the coach's name.

  Who's Neptune? Jay Wright, I'm sorry.

  And then, of course, Kansas State, and I'm sure a lot of

  schools wanted him last year, would have wanted him.

  I don't know how quickly he committed to Iowa, but Jay

  Wright's not going to recruit someone who can't play defense.

  He may have been the 14th guy on the team even now.

  five, it's like JC Holloway came back without the defensive

  well, and you'd see that point guard on the other squad and

  they'd be sitting back in the paint and just letting him do

  His last five games, Toure, of course, got blanked against

  Texas Tech. He had four against Utah, three

  against BYU, six against Houston, seven against Kansas,

  five against TCU. Likewise, Baylor been a long

  time since been a double digit scoring, but we've seen him do

  that and we've seen him do that in the Big 12.

  Now, admittedly, it was K State, Colorado, Oklahoma State,

  Central Florida, so not the who's who, if you will, but I'm

  anxious to see how it plays out tonight.

  If you take a look back here over the last month or so of the

  season going back to the game start with the TCO game for Iowa

  State, they are ranked 24th in the country in efficiency 3 and

  3 defense still good, 14th in the country.

  They're three and three cents that game, aren't they Including

  that game? Including that game offensively,

  though 69th in the country, when you look at it in totality,

  things look really good Offensively, this is still a top

  25 offense you're But when you look back here just over the

  last few weeks, and maybe it's as simple as that, the tore

  because of the inadequacy on the offensive end, but he just carts

  sophomore to his senior years, it's dropped off about 6/10 of a

  percent each season. So you know, when you've got 2

  guards like that, the opposing teams are not respecting the

  outside shop. And I think that poses a lot of

  problems for guys like Milan Momchila Beach.

  You've seen what opposing defenses have done to Josh

  Jefferson, sent in two or three guys his way.

  And you know how many open, really good open looks did Iowa

  State have in that game on on Saturday?

  I I would argue that Iowa State had as many good looks from

  three as Texas Tech had. I think just the way the defense

  played out. But the Red Raiders, they were
• 28:43
  able to knock them down and Iowa State really, really struggled

  in in that one. We've seen this team also lately
• 28:50
  struggle on the boards. Jeff Caller brought that up just
• 28:53
  a little bit ago. And you look through three of
• 28:55
  the last four games, they got out rebounded.

  We out rebounded Utah by two. Now we know that Buchanan's

  coming off an illness, so maybe there's a little something to be

  said with the headaches that he hadn't didn't start a couple of

  games back. But when you look at the

  rebounding issues for this odd, we know Jefferson's a good

  rebounder, but this is not a traditionally built, I guess

  lineup, if you will, concerns they're on the rebounding

  compartment. Yeah, I think that's that's

  certainly an area that Iowa State has to do well in in in

  these games. They they they, they came up

  short there 3529 and in the game against the Red Raiders and I

  would say a lot of and they were able to turn the weird thing,

  you know, they were able to able to turn Texas Tech over 15 times

  take care of both of those, you got to feel Iowa State's in a

  pretty good position. They turn the they, they got an

  advantage in the points off turnover 17 to 9.

  But I would say you, you, Iowa State's got to win there.

  They've got to win on the boards.

  They've got to get on nights that they don't shoot the ball

  well, just like they did against Texas Tech.
