- 0:00Speaker 1: Square Garden next Monday and Wednesday. For those of us
- 0:03Speaker 1: who don't live in Manhattan, can you tell us what
- 0:05Speaker 1: New York City is going to be like next week
- 0:07Speaker 1: when the NBA Finals come back in there. Yeah.
- 0:11Speaker 2: I've been around in the city, living in the city,
- 0:13Speaker 2: working in the city since twenty fourteen, and the Knicks
- 0:16Speaker 2: have been building probably the last four or five years,
- 0:18Speaker 2: since twenty twenty one, towards this, and it's gotten bigger
- 0:22Speaker 2: and bigger with the side talk videos and the videos
- 0:25Speaker 2: of these kids yelling random things and pouring honey and
- 0:28Speaker 2: bringing props outside. Like it was ridiculous last night that
- 0:32Speaker 2: NYPD actually let them do the plaza party outside watch party,
- 0:36Speaker 2: and they had to watch party in Madison Square Garden,
- 0:38Speaker 2: and they had to watch party at Central.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Park, Brian Park.
- 0:41Speaker 2: It's people everywhere, people with Knicks jerseys. I saw somebody
- 0:44Speaker 2: with a Matumbo Knicks jersey, like every random Knicked player
- 0:47Speaker 2: you could think of coming out of Like someone had
- 0:49Speaker 2: a gym or for Debt jersey. Like right now, the
- 0:52Speaker 2: city is carrying this energy and like you said, this
- 0:56Speaker 2: New York confidence that I've never seen. I did a
- 0:58Speaker 2: shoot for about an hour outside the stadium talking to fans,
- 1:01Speaker 2: and I'm like, it is crawling with people and the
- 1:04Speaker 2: city's united. So if they're able to sweep, they're gonna
- 1:08Speaker 2: be the best postseason team we've ever seen sweeping three
- 1:12Speaker 2: rounds in a row. And if they do it at
- 1:14Speaker 2: the Garden, that is a party that will start that
- 1:17Speaker 2: night all the way through the parade and the rest
- 1:19Speaker 2: of the summer.
- 1:20Speaker 1: So Keith taking me back to my Knicks fandom when
- 1:23Speaker 1: I was in college there, Charles Oakley, what is going
- 1:27Speaker 1: on with him and James Dolan. Charles Oakley, for those
- 1:30Speaker 1: who don't know, he's nick legend, has been going to
- 1:33Speaker 1: Knick's road playoff games, but he's been banned from Madison
- 1:37Speaker 1: Square Garden by the owner of the building and the
- 1:40Speaker 1: next James Dolan from a long standing beef. Do you
- 1:43Speaker 1: think Charles Oakley gets in the building and what's going
- 1:46Speaker 1: on there?
- 1:48Speaker 2: No, absolutely not. You picked the wrong guy to beef with, Charles. Sorry,
- 1:53Speaker 2: Oh the fans love you. People love you. But James
- 1:57Speaker 2: Dolan is the type of guy. He's got eyes on everything.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I think Pablo Torri did a hit on him about
- 2:02Speaker 2: how they, you know, have facial recognition in the building
- 2:05Speaker 2: and how they spy on people in the building and
- 2:07Speaker 2: that scene. I remember when that scene happened with Oakley
- 2:09Speaker 2: and then you know, sending security on him, and you know,
- 2:12Speaker 2: there's a whole case. So I don't see that being resolved.
- 2:15Speaker 2: And even when it's resolved, like he's been, he's on
- 2:18Speaker 2: the outside looking in. He's not going to be able
- 2:20Speaker 2: to enjoy this. He's not going to be able to
- 2:21Speaker 2: come in that building and see his former teammates and
- 2:24Speaker 2: you know, take selfies with fans. He's on the outside.
- 2:26Speaker 2: And it's just crazy right now because now Dolan is
- 2:28Speaker 2: getting the love right. People said the Knicks will never
- 2:30Speaker 2: win under James Dolan. They're three wins away.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And this stems from Oakley just criticizing Dolan how he
- 2:38Speaker 1: was running the team. Is that what this all goes
- 2:39Speaker 1: back to.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Yeah, And I think one night he was in the
- 2:45Speaker 2: arena and maybe he was trying to go somewhere or
- 2:48Speaker 2: whatever was you know, he was talking or do I
- 2:50Speaker 2: don't know. I just remember that night they sent security
- 2:52Speaker 2: to remove him and he was like, get your hands
- 2:54Speaker 2: off me, and it got very confrontational, and yeah, I
- 2:58Speaker 2: guess he was chirping and talking about Dolan and they
- 3:00Speaker 2: probably have everything recorded. He might be bugged, They might
- 3:03Speaker 2: have had an air tag on him. Who knows.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Oh my goodness, And I'm curious.
- 3:07Speaker 4: Have there been other legendary Nick players that have tried
- 3:11Speaker 4: to come to the defense of Oakley and trying to
- 3:13Speaker 4: get him back into building or as you mentioned, it's
- 3:15Speaker 4: just a rap.
- 3:15Speaker 3: You don't mess with Dolan on that.
- 3:19Speaker 2: No, not now. It's kumba y'ah. This is Orange and
- 3:21Speaker 2: Blue Skies. It's the best time ever. He's on the outside.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Tough luck.
- 3:26Speaker 2: There's nobody coming to defend him because they don't want
- 3:28Speaker 2: to be lumped in with him. They want to be
- 3:29Speaker 2: there with Marburry and Starts and ewing and mellow and no, no,
- 3:34Speaker 2: I haven't heard of anybody taking oak side. I've heard
- 3:36Speaker 2: some fan please, but he chose the hill to die on.
- 3:40Speaker 1: Oh wow, go ahead, Greg, Michael Jordan and Adam Silver
- 3:44Speaker 1: have reportedly been trying to convince James Doleman to let
- 3:47Speaker 1: Charles Oakley back in Yeah building.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Yeah, like those two, Yeah, okay, like they have any
- 3:53Speaker 2: pull with James dough.
- 3:56Speaker 1: We're talking with Keith mc ferson from New York City
- 3:58Speaker 1: on the the morning after the Knicks win Game one
- 4:02Speaker 1: of the NBA Finals, Brunson, that was a legendary performance.
- 4:08Speaker 1: And if you are that good on that stage in
- 4:10Speaker 1: New York, can become a legend for it. What did
- 4:12Speaker 1: the Spurs do to counter him? I mean they were
- 4:15Speaker 1: at times trying to double team him and rotate to him.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Is Brunston just gonna beat anything san Antonio has to
- 4:21Speaker 1: offer or what do you think the Spurs counter to him?
- 4:23Speaker 5: Is?
- 4:25Speaker 2: Yeah, he's gonna find a way. You know, everybody's better
- 4:27Speaker 2: than Jalen Brunston until it's time to play Jalen Brunton.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Once you get on the floor, you just see how
- 4:31Speaker 2: polished his footwork is, how he gets to his spots.
- 4:34Speaker 2: He can counter whatever you send out him, whatever you do,
- 4:36Speaker 2: and if it's one on one, he can shoot over anybody.
- 4:39Speaker 2: As small as he is, he can he can get
- 4:41Speaker 2: a little bit of space to get up and get
- 4:43Speaker 2: in the paints. It's incredible credit to his pops, man
- 4:46Speaker 2: Rick Brunson really really worked that kid and made him
- 4:49Speaker 2: into something. And that's what he said after the game.
- 4:50Speaker 2: I trust my work and even I'm in the bar
- 4:53Speaker 2: that ESPN had a watch party at the common Ground
- 4:55Speaker 2: all influencer types and ESPN celebrities and people.
- 4:58Speaker 1: And I'm sorry, call in.
- 5:00Speaker 2: The game and yeah, influencer types and content creators and
- 5:04Speaker 2: the girl behind me. He's like that sounds like I'm
- 5:06Speaker 2: a live commentator, but I was basically saying, like Brunson
- 5:09Speaker 2: is a step slow, you know, the knee. He was
- 5:11Speaker 2: feeling the kne But then as it got to crunch
- 5:14Speaker 2: time and closing time and winning time, adrenaline kicks in
- 5:17Speaker 2: and I knew they weren't gonna lose that game in
- 5:19Speaker 2: the fourth quarter because they're too senior. And he leads
- 5:22Speaker 2: the way. There's nobody else in the NBA that does
- 5:24Speaker 2: it quite like him. He's got all these playoff points
- 5:27Speaker 2: and fourth quarter points. He is Captain Clutch, the Clutch
- 5:30Speaker 2: Player of the Year from twenty twenty five. I don't know.
- 5:32Speaker 2: I hope that he ices up and gets his treatment,
- 5:35Speaker 2: because if he's not able to go, then then that
- 5:38Speaker 2: changes things. But I don't think they have an answer
- 5:40Speaker 2: for it. I don't think Castle Viselle. It doesn't matter
- 5:43Speaker 2: who you send at Jalen Brunson. He's gonna figure it out.
- 5:46Speaker 2: And he's got enough of a supporting cast and shouts
- 5:49Speaker 2: to Alvarado too. Alvarado definitely picked him up and held
- 5:53Speaker 2: it down while you know Brunton had to go get
- 5:55Speaker 2: that knee checked on. But no, I just think Brunson
- 5:58Speaker 2: is this close to like you said, like he's about
- 6:01Speaker 2: to be iconic. They're talking about putting his face on
- 6:03Speaker 2: the Statue of Liberty, like this is a guy that
- 6:05Speaker 2: they're putting on the Mount Rushmore. They're basically saying, he's
- 6:08Speaker 2: Derek Jeter. And I'm a big Yankee fan, and I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa,
- 6:11Speaker 2: take it easy. Five rings. They're like, well, for the Knicks,
- 6:14Speaker 2: all you need is one to equal those five. He's
- 6:16Speaker 2: Derek Jeter. I'm like, all right, well get it done.
- 6:19Speaker 1: You know who might be the biggest signing the Knicks
- 6:22Speaker 1: have had to win a title was Rick Brunson to
- 6:25Speaker 1: be the assistant coach in twenty twenty two. Jalen joined
- 6:28Speaker 1: him a month after the Knicks made him an assistant coach.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Rick Brunson, let's play for the Sonics back when I
- 6:34Speaker 1: covered two thousand and five six Sonics and then before
- 6:37Speaker 1: his NBA career, and then he became a Timberwolves assistant.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Whose idea was it did you know that hired Brunson
- 6:44Speaker 1: for the next job the assistant coach to now have
- 6:47Speaker 1: his son on the team.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Leon Rose All credit to Leon Rose. Leon Rose coming
- 6:52Speaker 2: from CIA as an agent. He was Rick Brunson's agent.
- 6:55Speaker 2: So they're friends. They're close friends. I think like Rick
- 6:58Speaker 2: Brunson might be his daughter is godfather or something. They're
- 7:01Speaker 2: like that close. So they knew something because that was criticized.
- 7:05Speaker 2: There are tweets that have popped back up and I
- 7:07Speaker 2: remember Steven A. They have a whole low light reel
- 7:09Speaker 2: of Stephen A criticized and they're like, Jalen Brunson overpay.
- 7:12Speaker 2: Jalen Brunt is the second round pick. Who's Jaalen brother? Oh,
- 7:14Speaker 2: and his daddy's gonna be is daddy's there, He's gonna
- 7:17Speaker 2: be a daddy's boy on the team. All Hey, this
- 7:19Speaker 2: is not little league where the coach's son plays and
- 7:21Speaker 2: he's not good. This is the big leagues where the
- 7:24Speaker 2: coach's son is the best player on the team and
- 7:27Speaker 2: he can coach him up a little differently, and there's
- 7:29Speaker 2: a different level of like chemistry and respect. Even with
- 7:32Speaker 2: the Villanova guys that have known Rick for years now
- 7:35Speaker 2: and Mike Brown yesterday, like Mike Brown gives him his flowers.
- 7:38Speaker 2: He said, we were all kind of losing our minds
- 7:40Speaker 2: about the officiating, and Rick Brunson was the one saying,
- 7:43Speaker 2: everybody shut up, everybody be quiet, even to his son,
- 7:45Speaker 2: who after the game we saw go right over to
- 7:47Speaker 2: Scott Foster to talk about the fans that were chirping him.
- 7:50Speaker 2: But if you watch that game, which we all did,
- 7:52Speaker 2: at first, they were letting him play. The Nicks weren't
- 7:54Speaker 2: getting to the free throw line in the beginning of
- 7:55Speaker 2: the game, and then they started calling some some different
- 7:57Speaker 2: type of stuff. So yeah, shout out to Leon Rose
- 7:59Speaker 2: Cia connection, I mean Dolan for taking a chance on
- 8:02Speaker 2: a CIA guy that was an agent that never was
- 8:04Speaker 2: a GM before his connection with Rick Brunston and Rick
- 8:06Speaker 2: Brunston on him. Let's go get my son. The Nicks
- 8:09Speaker 2: have been needing a point guard forever. Let's go get
- 8:11Speaker 2: my son and build around him. He'll take less money
- 8:13Speaker 2: so we can get call Anthony Towns, so we could
- 8:15Speaker 2: pay og Nanobi, so we could pay Michale Bridges. Let's
- 8:18Speaker 2: do that and that'll take us to the promised landing.
- 8:21Speaker 2: They're here in the NBA Finals again.
- 8:23Speaker 4: We're joined by Keith McPherson, hosts of the mic Check
- 8:27Speaker 4: YouTube show. You can check them out there. Keith, what
- 8:30Speaker 4: impresses you more regarding Jalen Brunson. Is it the production
- 8:35Speaker 4: or his toughness.
- 8:40Speaker 2: I think it's a combination of the production and toughness,
- 8:43Speaker 2: but also the stoicness, like that shot of him walking
- 8:46Speaker 2: off the court. He just won game one of the finals,
- 8:50Speaker 2: and he is the story because he got hurt, he left,
- 8:52Speaker 2: he came in. He at the game winning shot for
- 8:53Speaker 2: the most part, and he's got just this killer look
- 8:57Speaker 2: in his eyes in his face. Job not finished, Kobe, right,
- 9:01Speaker 2: job finished, job not finished. So yeah, he's got the toughness,
- 9:05Speaker 2: his skill. That's I said. For him to be the
- 9:06Speaker 2: smallest guy on the floor, he's so polished left handed,
- 9:10Speaker 2: but he could get to whatever shot in the paint.
- 9:13Speaker 2: It's just you can watch him. It's poetry in motion
- 9:15Speaker 2: and he just gets to certain steps and rises up.
- 9:17Speaker 2: He's money, he's cash. So yeah, I don't know. There's
- 9:20Speaker 2: just so many things that you like about him. It
- 9:22Speaker 2: makes the Knicks hard to hate, right, You know that
- 9:24Speaker 2: the Knicks are the laughing stocks. The Knicks are a
- 9:26Speaker 2: team that people have hated on forever, but like Jalen
- 9:28Speaker 2: Brunton be in the face of the team, the way
- 9:31Speaker 2: this guy carries himself, the way that this guy continuously
- 9:34Speaker 2: execute like just Ice in his veins. I got a
- 9:37Speaker 2: ton of respect for him. He's a really good player
- 9:39Speaker 2: and he's gonna go down in history after they finish
- 9:41Speaker 2: this one.
- 9:42Speaker 3: I got to what is for you, Keith? The first?
- 9:44Speaker 4: What if if Brunson leads the Knicks to this championship?
- 9:49Speaker 4: Where would he rank among some of the best small
- 9:51Speaker 4: guards to do it? You can mention players like what
- 9:54Speaker 4: Steph Curry A I didn't win one, obviously, but where
- 9:57Speaker 4: would he rank in that realm?
- 10:01Speaker 2: They're gonna get Becky Hammond. They're all The witch hunt
- 10:04Speaker 2: for Becky Hammon has been on.
- 10:06Speaker 1: For a week. Wow.
- 10:08Speaker 2: You know she said you can't win with a little guy.
- 10:10Speaker 2: He was, He's gonna be a one, all right. I
- 10:12Speaker 2: was a big AI fan. I remember going down to
- 10:14Speaker 2: Philly and watching him lose to the Pistons when I
- 10:16Speaker 2: was a kid. You know, they talked about Nash. Steph
- 10:19Speaker 2: Curry is small, but he's not. He's like the greatest
- 10:21Speaker 2: shooter ever and he's had he had, he had Clay,
- 10:23Speaker 2: and he always had a different cast of characters around him,
- 10:26Speaker 2: from Igua Dala to obviously Draymond and whoever else you
- 10:30Speaker 2: know in between Katie. Can't forget Katie being right next
- 10:33Speaker 2: to him, you know. But Brunst is gonna be up there.
- 10:36Speaker 2: I can't think of it like Isaiah Thomas. Like Brunston
- 10:39Speaker 2: is gonna be up there for defying all odds and
- 10:43Speaker 2: literally in the face of a conversation that's existed for
- 10:45Speaker 2: the last few years that you can't get it done
- 10:47Speaker 2: with a small guard because they're always gonna have a
- 10:49Speaker 2: bigger defender to send out him. If he gets it
- 10:51Speaker 2: done this year, he's at the top, he's number one.
- 10:53Speaker 2: He's gonna change that narrative.
- 10:55Speaker 4: And then my last what if if the Knicks win
- 10:58Speaker 4: the title, does brunt to become the most beloved Nick
- 11:01Speaker 4: since I don't know Patrick Ewing or even maybe.
- 11:06Speaker 3: Fraser.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Yeah, Clyde Fraser.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Yeah, he's already there. These these kids are actually crying,
- 11:14Speaker 2: I love you, Jalen Brunton outside there. I know they're
- 11:16Speaker 2: you know, they've got a little bit of stuff in
- 11:18Speaker 2: their system, but they, like Jalen Brunson, is is like
- 11:22Speaker 2: a deity. Jlen Brunson is like a god in this
- 11:25Speaker 2: town already, and he hasn't.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Won it yet.
- 11:27Speaker 2: So you know, you talk about like Walt Clyde Fraser.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Those kids just know him for you know, wheeling and dealing,
- 11:33Speaker 2: styling and profiling on the on the broadcast. They didn't
- 11:35Speaker 2: see him play, even like Bernard King. There was a
- 11:38Speaker 2: viral video a couple of weeks ago where somebody in
- 11:40Speaker 2: New York was on CBS and said, oh, Cedric the
- 11:43Speaker 2: entertainers in the building. Yeah, and we're like that Bernard King.
- 11:46Speaker 2: You didn't even know that, but as a young guy
- 11:47Speaker 2: on the he I thought it was Cedric the entertainer.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Why would Pedgrick the entertainer be.
- 11:50Speaker 1: In those seasons?
- 11:51Speaker 2: Patrick Ewing didn't get it done. Brunson is going to
- 11:54Speaker 2: be number one, and you know what these kids. Number
- 11:55Speaker 2: one was for a while, Carmelo, and he's easily watched
- 11:59Speaker 2: Carmelo already. So yeah, Brunton wins the chip. It's just
- 12:03Speaker 2: gonna be above everything in New York. It's been a drought.
- 12:05Speaker 2: It's been a long time since the Giants won in
- 12:07Speaker 2: twenty eleven.
- 12:09Speaker 4: This sounds you watched the boys the TV series, right,
- 12:12Speaker 4: you've seen that.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I've seen the first couple episodes of it. It's hard
- 12:16Speaker 2: for me to get into it because I grew up
- 12:18Speaker 2: with such a Marvel and DC comic book guy, like
- 12:20Speaker 2: a new franchise of superheroes, like even when they had
- 12:24Speaker 2: that show Heroes. I'm like, like, I know, because there's
- 12:27Speaker 2: too many comps, you know what. I'm then like, if
- 12:29Speaker 2: there's some yeah, so I don't know where if you're
- 12:33Speaker 2: going to like a character or something, I'm not gonna
- 12:34Speaker 2: be able to identify the character.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Will you remember Homelander at least? Nah?
- 12:42Speaker 2: And you know what, I'm the worst. I watched sports.
- 12:45Speaker 2: My wife always trs to put stuff on Netflix, and
- 12:47Speaker 2: I fall asleep. The only thing I can keep my
- 12:49Speaker 2: attention is a live ball, Like I need to be
- 12:51Speaker 2: watching a live ball.
- 12:53Speaker 3: Move no, I suspect key if you're good.
- 12:54Speaker 4: As soon as i'm mensal, You're like, yeah, man, I've
- 12:56Speaker 4: seen a couple episodes, you know, And then I said
- 12:58Speaker 4: the character.
- 12:59Speaker 3: You were like, yeah, no, man, if it ain't even.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Got a ball on it, I'm not gonna lie to you.
- 13:04Speaker 3: I appreciate that. So you're good, man, Keith.
- 13:08Speaker 1: Where are you gonna be your host another party tomorrow?
- 13:10Speaker 1: Where can we find your work in the NBA Finals?
- 13:14Speaker 2: So I'm actually on Fox Sports Radio with Rob Parker
- 13:17Speaker 2: tomorrow night seven to ten pm on Serious XM, I
- 13:21Speaker 2: think channel fifty three, Fox Sports Radio YouTube channel. His
- 13:25Speaker 2: show is called The Odd Couple, Rob Parker's my OG
- 13:28Speaker 2: and when Kelvin Washington steps out, they have me pinch
- 13:31Speaker 2: hit for him. So I'll be in the city on
- 13:34Speaker 2: air for like the first whole part of the game,
- 13:37Speaker 2: and then I'm getting out of way. I'm going home.
- 13:39Speaker 2: I'm too old.
- 13:40Speaker 1: I can't.
- 13:41Speaker 2: I did the first game out there, but it is
- 13:43Speaker 2: such a melee and a scrum. They're lighting girls hairs
- 13:46Speaker 2: on fire and they're they're fighting now, and there's so
- 13:49Speaker 2: many police officers, and for every police officer there's ten
- 13:53Speaker 2: wild crazy kids and bums. So yeah, I'm gonna be
- 13:56Speaker 2: on the radio. I'm gonna go home afterwards. I'm probably
- 14:00Speaker 2: not watching going to any watch parties or doing any content.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I'm just doing my three hour radio show with Rob
- 14:07Speaker 2: Parker and go home and go to bed.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Is this the craziest been since forever for you?
- 14:11Speaker 4: In terms of being a former radio host and now
- 14:14Speaker 4: doing your own thing and you're outside in it.
- 14:16Speaker 3: Is this the craziest have ever been?
- 14:17Speaker 4: Or is MLB championships or NFL anything top it?
- 14:22Speaker 2: Yeah? I mean I am a big like Yankees fan,
- 14:26Speaker 2: influencer creator in that space. And the Yankees getting to
- 14:29Speaker 2: the World Series was cool in twenty twenty four, but
- 14:31Speaker 2: they were cooked. They came by, they were down three
- 14:32Speaker 2: to zero, like it never got to this point. And
- 14:35Speaker 2: then the Knicks are the one team that unites the
- 14:37Speaker 2: city because Mets fans and Yankee fans are Knicks fans.
- 14:41Speaker 2: The Brooklyn Nets used to be in Jersey. They are
- 14:43Speaker 2: not really a thing. That small percentage of Net fans
- 14:46Speaker 2: is split. You know, the Nets fan is hating on
- 14:49Speaker 2: the Knicks quietly or supporting the Knicks quietly, but it's quiet.
- 14:53Speaker 2: So I have never seen this in the city, even
- 14:55Speaker 2: when the Rangers were good. I think back in twenty
- 14:58Speaker 2: fifteen they went to the Stanley Cup. There is team
- 15:01Speaker 2: that unites the city and it's it's it's the summertime,
- 15:03Speaker 2: you know. That's why I said, it's Friday night. Tomorrow,
- 15:05Speaker 2: I'm getting out of the way. People are going to
- 15:08Speaker 2: jail tomorrow night.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I'm going home.
- 15:10Speaker 2: So yeah, it's the craziest I've ever seen.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Smart man. Keith might have to hit you up again
- 15:16Speaker 1: with a preordained sweep ends for the next next week
- 15:20Speaker 1: in the finals. Thanks for joining us again, have fun,
- 15:23Speaker 1: be safe, get home. Thanks a lot. Man.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Yeah, let me know, guys, thanks for having me. Have
- 15:28Speaker 2: a good one into the weekend.
- 15:29Speaker 1: Keith McPherson from New York City. It's gonna be on
- 15:32Speaker 1: Fox Sports Radio tomorrow night. I was hosting a party
- 15:36Speaker 1: last night. He's got videos online of it. It's Keith
- 15:39Speaker 1: underscore McPherson on Twitter X and yeah, I can relate
- 15:44Speaker 1: a little bit to just being too old for the scene.
- 15:47Speaker 4: Yeah, he said I'm going home man, Yeah, yeah, man,
- 15:50Speaker 4: people are going to jail. When he said that part,
- 15:54Speaker 4: I say, yeah, you're my type of guy. Man, I'm
- 15:55Speaker 4: going straight to the crib. I got to do a
- 15:57Speaker 4: radio hit for three hours, but after that, I'm inside.
- 16:01Speaker 1: We've had the Spurs play by play announcer Dan Weiss
- 16:04Speaker 1: on this week. We now have Keith macpherson from the
- 16:06Speaker 1: New York side. We'll see what the Spurs do in
- 16:08Speaker 1: Game two tomorrow night of the NBA Finals. Remember Game
- 16:11Speaker 1: two of the Stanley Cup Finals, is tonight five o'clock
- 16:14Speaker 1: right here on ninety three point three KJR Sports Radio
- 16:16Speaker 1: USA with our man John foresl and the crack and
- 16:19Speaker 1: play by play guy doing radio play by play tonight
- 16:22Speaker 1: live on our radio station, Live on our radio station.
- 16:24Speaker 1: Next your chance to be a part of the show.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Four nine, four five one. What Russell Wilson's legacy is
- 16:30Speaker 1: to you? What is Hall of Fame credentials are to you?
- 16:33Speaker 1: And more? We'll read back your text next on ninety
- 16:36Speaker 1: three point three KJRFM. You did seven one four so
- 16:40Speaker 1: cow Orange County. The positive of our w legacy? Why
- 16:44Speaker 1: not us helped bring us our first Lombardi? The negative?
- 16:47Speaker 1: He is now the quintessential cautionary tale of how fame
- 16:50Speaker 1: can corrupt and destroy. It's my guy, Greg and Huntington
- 16:54Speaker 1: Beach three six oh. I wanted to read this. I
- 16:58Speaker 1: absolutely love Derek hollin his story. We spent six months
- 17:02Speaker 1: at Montlake with my son. My son, too, was a
- 17:05Speaker 1: micro premi. He was born at twenty seven weeks with
- 17:08Speaker 1: a gestational body of a twenty four week old. He
- 17:11Speaker 1: was born at two pounds. He's now almost six years
- 17:14Speaker 1: old and a monster on his way to be in
- 17:17Speaker 1: the next Seahawk. I absolutely love the show, Greg, and
- 17:21Speaker 1: Chris my son's name is also Christopher like myself. Thanks
- 17:25Speaker 1: three six, so appreciate that.
- 17:27Speaker 3: Such a great name. What can I say.
- 17:30Speaker 4: From the two six ten plus years of double digit wins,
- 17:35Speaker 4: two countless number two countless comeback wins, three super Bowl appearances,
- 17:40Speaker 4: four no drama or contract disputes. Well that's I'm gonna
- 17:44Speaker 4: put a little question mark there because there was definitely
- 17:46Speaker 4: some drama and contract disputes. Five non prototypical quarterback size
- 17:52Speaker 4: six just winning football. I understand where you're coming from,
- 17:58Speaker 4: but yeah, there was a little bit of drama there.
- 17:59Speaker 4: He wanted his head coach, he won a one fired
- 18:01Speaker 4: at one point. Okay, so he was not the the
- 18:05Speaker 4: prince charming dear I say he was. He definitely had
- 18:08Speaker 4: his warts with the team in the front office and
- 18:10Speaker 4: all that, But I think everything else he talked about
- 18:13Speaker 4: definitely shows Russ as a really cool dude. And Greg,
- 18:16Speaker 4: you covered him, so I'm sure you get to see
- 18:18Speaker 4: a lot of it as well.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Yeah, I have nothing bad to say about Russell Wilson.
- 18:22Speaker 1: I know it got ugly at the end, and I
- 18:25Speaker 1: know I know for this for a fact, part of
- 18:28Speaker 1: the reason I missed on saying Russell Wilson would never
- 18:31Speaker 1: get traded was Pete Carroll told me he never trade him.
- 18:34Speaker 1: And Pete Carroll was the last guy in the building
- 18:36Speaker 1: who agreed to trade Russell Wilson. And it was when
- 18:39Speaker 1: Wilson told Pete Carroll that he needed to leave, wanted
- 18:43Speaker 1: to leave, thought his legacy was better elsewhere, and that
- 18:47Speaker 1: Wilson made it clear to Carroll that he would make
- 18:49Speaker 1: life tough here in Seattle for the Seahawks if he
- 18:52Speaker 1: didn't go. That coupled with what John Schneider told Pete
- 18:56Speaker 1: Carroll the Broncos were offering three veteran plays, two first
- 19:01Speaker 1: round picks and two second round picks. That only then
- 19:04Speaker 1: is when Pete Carroll became convinced to trade Russell Wilson.
- 19:08Speaker 1: And then that happened, and Carol switched on the dime
- 19:11Speaker 1: and Wilson got traded. That's how it went down and
- 19:15Speaker 1: up until that point, and then when it ended. I
- 19:18Speaker 1: remember Pete Carroll telling me in a hallway here at
- 19:21Speaker 1: the vMac, greg I told Russ he will never have
- 19:25Speaker 1: it better than he had it here. He'll never have
- 19:28Speaker 1: a coach who Taylor's the entire team, offense and everything
- 19:32Speaker 1: around him. Like I did for him. I told him
- 19:35Speaker 1: it'll never be better for him no matter where he goes,
- 19:37Speaker 1: no matter how much money he makes. And Pete Carroll
- 19:40Speaker 1: was exactly right. He was proven true and its exactly
- 19:44Speaker 1: what happened. It played out exactly. I could also tell
- 19:46Speaker 1: you that Pete Carroll couldn't believe they had the fifth
- 19:48Speaker 1: overall pick in the draft as the result of that
- 19:51Speaker 1: Russell Wilson trade because the Broncos were so bad that
- 19:54Speaker 1: you're Russell Wilson's trade. The reason why Devin Witherspoon is
- 19:57Speaker 1: a Seahawk.
- 19:59Speaker 4: Last few from me as we got the mayor on
- 20:01Speaker 4: deck from our guy Travis out of the two six,
- 20:04Speaker 4: got Keith back on nice Also more Keith love great
- 20:09Speaker 4: guests from the eight three to one, thank you. And
- 20:12Speaker 4: the last one is from the two o six. Can
- 20:15Speaker 4: you guys get a weekly segment with Keith McPherson. Dude
- 20:17Speaker 4: is hilarious and that was fun Eric and kidsap and
- 20:21Speaker 4: I lied one more. This is from the four to
- 20:26Speaker 4: two five three. I really like New York Keith a lot.
- 20:31Speaker 4: He's really funny. Get him back on again. So I
- 20:34Speaker 4: appreciate all the love and support there.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Two o six says Russell Wilson won from day one,
- 20:41Speaker 1: stepping right into the starting position and changed the NFL forever.
- 20:44Speaker 1: Running quarterbacks became the mandate to win two o six. First, no,
- 20:50Speaker 1: he does not get into the Hall of Fame. Second,
- 20:52Speaker 1: he's a Seahawks legend. Two o six is. I appreciate
- 20:54Speaker 1: what he accomplished. It a Seahawk, but I'm tired on
- 20:57Speaker 1: board with all things Russ and I honestly don't care
- 20:59Speaker 1: a bit. I think maybe you read that I did.
- 21:03Speaker 1: You got it? Yeah, yeah, two oh six is dangerous.
- 21:07Speaker 1: When Seattle's first Super Bowl, he is in Seattle Hall
- 21:10Speaker 1: of Fame, but not the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Two five three said Russell Wilson is the reason I
- 21:15Speaker 1: got into football. That's interesting. A lot of people feel
- 21:20Speaker 1: that way. A lot of people of a certain age
- 21:22Speaker 1: were a detirement in just learning football and watching football
- 21:26Speaker 1: closely and coincided with Russell Wilson and what the Seahawks
- 21:30Speaker 1: became with him. Thanks Off for your text lots of him.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I always appreciate the feedback. Ian Fornest did poke his
- 21:36Speaker 1: head here to my room at Seahawks headquarters. We'll talk
- 21:39Speaker 1: next about what he's got on the show, and then
- 21:41Speaker 1: we'll head out to watch practice from Seahawks headquarters. End's
- 21:44Speaker 1: up next with me on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 21:52Speaker 1: Welcome back The Greg Best Show with Christopher Kidd Live
- 21:54Speaker 1: aout ninety three point three KJRFM. We talked a lot
- 21:56Speaker 1: about Russell Wilson, thinking aboute to football and Hello to
- 21:59Speaker 1: CBS yes today, his legacy here in Seattle, his Hall
- 22:02Speaker 1: of Fame credentials. I brought up ken Stable. I don't
- 22:06Speaker 1: know if you brought it up yesterday, but when I
- 22:09Speaker 1: look at ken stabush numbers I in Fernesse and look
- 22:11Speaker 1: at Russell Wilson's, it's very favorable.
- 22:14Speaker 5: So there's there's interesting too real quick because you you
- 22:18Speaker 5: can maybe explain this because ras A Moss or whatever
- 22:21Speaker 5: her name is, she said he didn't officially retire yet. No,
- 22:26Speaker 5: that's erroneous when she said that, right.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Correct that I know he hasn't officially submitted. A player
- 22:31Speaker 1: has to submission, officially submit paperwork to the NFL to
- 22:34Speaker 1: be officially retired.
- 22:35Speaker 5: Officially retired, because and then that would start the five
- 22:38Speaker 5: year calendar. So I mean I guess it's it's by year, right,
- 22:41Speaker 5: So like if he does it before the end of
- 22:42Speaker 5: the year, his clock, his five year window would start.
- 22:47Speaker 5: I mean, it's like a lot of these guys that
- 22:48Speaker 5: weave the door open a little bit, right, Philip Rivers
- 22:51Speaker 5: had to restart the clock, right.
- 22:54Speaker 1: What was out worth?
- 22:56Speaker 5: Yeah, there's I think the difference is there's the modern
- 22:59Speaker 5: day quarterback and then there's the you know, pre free
- 23:03Speaker 5: agency salary cap ninety two ninety three quarterback.
- 23:07Speaker 1: I uh. You know.
- 23:08Speaker 5: Pro Football Reference does a great job of kind of
- 23:09Speaker 5: doing some of the you know, compiling the numbers in
- 23:12Speaker 5: the Hall of Fame monitor they do, and all that,
- 23:14Speaker 5: and and in that regard, Russ doesn't. He doesn't really,
- 23:18Speaker 5: I don't want to say come close, but he's not
- 23:19Speaker 5: in the conversation. You know, you need something besides one
- 23:24Speaker 5: Super Bowl and a second team All Pro. That's all
- 23:27Speaker 5: he has. Like that, I mean, because the Pro Bowls
- 23:29Speaker 5: we all know don't matter. They just don't. I mean,
- 23:31Speaker 5: especially when you're an alternate. Every time I think he became, he.
- 23:34Speaker 1: Came within one yard of saying he's a Super Bowl
- 23:36Speaker 1: quarter I think you're right, I really do.
- 23:38Speaker 5: I think it's and listen, he threw that pick.
- 23:42Speaker 1: He did there's not call.
- 23:44Speaker 5: Yeah we can, we can.
- 23:46Speaker 1: He threw it to the number five receiver on.
- 23:48Speaker 5: The Cardle Lockett was Lockett's going to be your guy.
- 23:51Speaker 5: Like I I'm glad you said that because and listen,
- 23:54Speaker 5: I'm not.
- 23:54Speaker 1: I don't.
- 23:54Speaker 5: I don't want to just bash the guy. But it's
- 23:58Speaker 5: that one play probably did cost him. It may even
- 24:03Speaker 5: cost Pete Carroll the Hall of Fame.
- 24:05Speaker 1: M absolutely, it could, right. I think Pete Carroll's still
- 24:08Speaker 1: going to get in the Hall of Fame, but it could.
- 24:11Speaker 1: You know.
- 24:11Speaker 5: The hard thing with the coaches is I hate the system.
- 24:13Speaker 5: I mean, it's just, you know, you got these guys,
- 24:15Speaker 5: these coaches that are in their seventies, you know, like
- 24:18Speaker 5: Mike and Pete and guys like that. Mike Shanahan, right,
- 24:22Speaker 5: is still waiting. I mean you look at his resume.
- 24:24Speaker 5: It sacks up against Holmegruns, but with one a year. Yeah,
- 24:30Speaker 5: the system now is the system just it's really hard,
- 24:33Speaker 5: you know, And but it probably that one throw might
- 24:36Speaker 5: have cost Russ and Pete both, which is crazy, you think.
- 24:41Speaker 1: Yes, you could say Carol and Carol took responsibility for
- 24:46Speaker 1: seeing the Patriots were in a heavy package and saying
- 24:48Speaker 1: let's throw right and bevill put rock pocket on the
- 24:51Speaker 1: field in the slot and they called to play that.
- 24:53Speaker 1: The Patriots and Belichick had scrimmaged and run all week
- 24:56Speaker 1: and pro Yes, you could say all of that, but
- 24:58Speaker 1: Wilson did throw the ball, and ultimately that's what a
- 25:03Speaker 1: quarterback is.
- 25:03Speaker 5: He throws the ball and decision maker. He just wasn't there.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Correct, he decided to throw, he didn't expect Malcolm Butler
- 25:09Speaker 1: to jump it as quickly as he did, and the
- 25:11Speaker 1: rest is history. But yeah, I already mentioned my what
- 25:14Speaker 1: I feel about his legacy. I mean, his legacies.
- 25:17Speaker 5: You used a word, and I think it's you said complicated,
- 25:20Speaker 5: and I think that's a great word to describe his legacy.
- 25:24Speaker 5: He had the he had he was on the path
- 25:27Speaker 5: to being like like you know, I hate the term,
- 25:32Speaker 5: I hate the Mount Rushmore stuff, but that he was
- 25:34Speaker 5: on that path to be in that that category with
- 25:39Speaker 5: you know, Griffy uh and guys like that. You know,
- 25:42Speaker 5: and then it's gone because I think because of how
- 25:48Speaker 5: he left, because of why he left and kind of
- 25:53Speaker 5: how he his I would say his character evolved because
- 25:57Speaker 5: it wasn't like I say, character like almost like he
- 25:59Speaker 5: was big than life, like kind of a fictional being,
- 26:02Speaker 5: you know, like like it went from because Russ in
- 26:05Speaker 5: twenty twelve and twenty thirteen, twenty fourteen was a different
- 26:08Speaker 5: guy than Russ in twenty twenty. He was just a
- 26:11Speaker 5: different dude. And we all change and evolved, but he
- 26:14Speaker 5: was just different how he handled things, how he handled
- 26:16Speaker 5: people around him, how he handled business inside this building. Right.
- 26:21Speaker 5: But I'm glad you touched it on the children's stuff
- 26:24Speaker 5: because you know, as much as I will take my
- 26:27Speaker 5: shots at him, because of how he treated some people
- 26:29Speaker 5: in this building, that stuff at Children's hospital, Whether there
- 26:34Speaker 5: were cameras there or not, it didn't matter. It was real.
- 26:37Speaker 5: It was one hundred percent real. And you know, I've
- 26:39Speaker 5: told the story when when my son spent a few
- 26:42Speaker 5: days out there, and when was that twenty twenty nineteen?
- 26:47Speaker 5: I think it was, yeah, twenty nineteen. He spent a
- 26:49Speaker 5: few days out there at that hospital, and and you know,
- 26:53Speaker 5: I kind of did my just wandering around killing time
- 26:56Speaker 5: and stuff, and the Russell Wilson impact. I talked to
- 26:59Speaker 5: some very real, very very real and he can and
- 27:02Speaker 5: that's that's a legacy that he should be celebrated.
- 27:05Speaker 1: For Yeah, thank you. We should and I've seen it firsthand. Yeah, absolutely, Yeah, Yeah,
- 27:10Speaker 1: I know you're gonna have john Foreslan on today's yeah
- 27:13Speaker 1: man doing the Cup as well.
- 27:14Speaker 5: I haven't had Johnny on the show and forever. I've
- 27:17Speaker 5: had Eddie on a couple of times put your plumbs
- 27:19Speaker 5: on the table, but I haven't had Johnny while they're
- 27:22Speaker 5: calling the game again tonight. We'll have the games. We
- 27:23Speaker 5: have all the Stanley Cup final games share on KHR,
- 27:25Speaker 5: which is great on the home for the Crack and
- 27:27Speaker 5: they they took twenty five seconds for him to have
- 27:30Speaker 5: a goal call the other day.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 27:34Speaker 5: So yeah, we love Johnny on and we'll talk a
- 27:36Speaker 5: little bit too, not just about the Stanley Cup Finals,
- 27:38Speaker 5: but also get his thoughts on audits and off season
- 27:42Speaker 5: and where this team needs to go, what it needs
- 27:44Speaker 5: to do, And so we'll do that. You know, Sarah's
- 27:46Speaker 5: gonna talk a little baseball coming up today at one.
- 27:49Speaker 5: He wrote a great story in The Athletic about the
- 27:52Speaker 5: teams the most injured teams in baseball and is there
- 27:57Speaker 5: a correlation between pay and injuries and guys taking chances?
- 28:03Speaker 5: And why we did you there's a stat because you
- 28:07Speaker 5: coach high school baseball fifty percent right now, it's roughly
- 28:12Speaker 5: and this is give or take, but around fifty percent
- 28:14Speaker 5: of the UCL and the Tommy John surgeries right now
- 28:17Speaker 5: are kids that are twenty years older younger.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Yep. It's because they're playing travel ball and pitching one
- 28:23Speaker 1: hundred innings of summer, three hundred innings the summer.
- 28:25Speaker 5: And then throwing breaking balls early, throwing.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Breaking balls when they're eleven years old.
- 28:29Speaker 5: Yeah, and then but the wild thing now is it's
- 28:31Speaker 5: almost it's almost like a rite of passage, isn't it
- 28:34Speaker 5: like if you're a good pitcher, let's just get that
- 28:36Speaker 5: thing out of the way. Some do it preemptively and
- 28:39Speaker 5: they and they yeah, and then they come back bigger, stronger, faster. Right,
- 28:42Speaker 5: it's crazy. But we'll talk to him. When Kirby got
- 28:46Speaker 5: banged around a little bit yesterday, but he didn't get
- 28:48Speaker 5: any help, and there's some stats out there that show
- 28:50Speaker 5: that his his the guys behind him have not helped
- 28:53Speaker 5: George Kurby much this year. So well, well, a lot
- 28:56Speaker 5: of baseball to talk to you, and then I think
- 28:58Speaker 5: Jalenson Dell's going to join us. Okay after practice to
- 29:01Speaker 5: day around two twenty five or so. So yeah, well,
- 29:04Speaker 5: you know what's funny. I had so we had a
- 29:05Speaker 5: royal on yesterday and I didn't realize he wasn't even practicing.
- 29:10Speaker 1: But he did. He was in the training room.
- 29:11Speaker 5: Yeah, so and I was like, oh, you're healthy.
- 29:13Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm healthy. I'm breathing, I'm talking to you.
- 29:17Speaker 1: That's the problem when.
- 29:17Speaker 5: You're in it, when you're in and out every five minutes,
- 29:19Speaker 5: watching five minutes here, five minutes. Because he was healthy
- 29:22Speaker 5: last week, so I don't know what he said. He's healthy,
- 29:24Speaker 5: So I'm sure McDonald's practiced last week. Yeah, he was fine.
- 29:27Speaker 5: I think he's just there. There weren't a maintenance world
- 29:29Speaker 5: right now, aren't we. Yeah, you know all the d
- 29:31Speaker 5: linemen were in there yesterday. I was taught. I was
- 29:33Speaker 5: walking by the talking to Jared Reed when he was
- 29:35Speaker 5: standing out just kind of standing in the opening for
- 29:37Speaker 5: the weight room. I go, I pointed my finger, my
- 29:40Speaker 5: ring finger. Go. He's like, oh, yeah, I go. I go,
- 29:44Speaker 5: you're not out there right now? I goes, No, June,
- 29:49Speaker 5: I'm here, I think he said, he goes, I'm just here.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Twelve months ago, Jalen Sndell was trying to win the
- 29:54Speaker 1: starting right guard job.
- 29:56Speaker 5: How crazy is that?
- 29:57Speaker 1: That's how long he's far he's come.
- 29:59Speaker 5: How I mean?
- 30:00Speaker 1: He was third string right guard, trying to pass Christian
- 30:03Speaker 1: Haynes and Anthony Bradford.
- 30:04Speaker 5: And you know what, I never thought old of Timmy
- 30:06Speaker 5: was bad. I thought it was serviceable. Yeah, you know,
- 30:09Speaker 5: like but Sandel's I mean you you look at that. Now,
- 30:13Speaker 5: You've got your two tackles locked up for the next
- 30:16Speaker 5: few years. Zables on a rookie contract. Sandell's on a
- 30:19Speaker 5: rookie contract. If you can just figure out who your
- 30:21Speaker 5: right guard is, you're pretty good shape.
- 30:23Speaker 1: You just drafted an All American guard from Iowa in
- 30:25Speaker 1: the fifth round. Is a rookie? What's his? So his?
- 30:28Speaker 5: He's three right now? Right?
- 30:30Speaker 1: He was three yesterday. Christian Haynes came in for Bradford
