- 0:17Hello and welcome to fraggle, talk.
- 0:19The Unofficial Fraggle, Rock podcast brought to you by tough

- 0:31helped put it all together. I'm your host.
- 0:33Silly creature Johannes. Today we are talking about
- 0:36episode 12 into the trash in which the trash Heap gets sick
- 0:40and boober goes, dumpster diving.
- 0:43We have three exciting guest today and with their powers
- 0:46combined they make up the trash Heap herself.
- 0:48First up, we have a puppeteer whose work can be seen on.
- 0:51It's a big, big world splashing bubbles in LazyTown.
- 0:54I'm back to the Rock. You've seen her as henchy
- 0:56fraggle, Ma gorg, and one-third of Marjorie.
- 1:00We are extremely pleased to welcome, Amy Garcia to the
- 1:02podcast. Hi Amy.
- 1:04Hi guys. It's so nice to be here.
- 1:06Thanks for inviting me, of course, so glad that you're
- 1:09here. Our next guest is one of the
- 1:12stars of Sesame workshop's help stirs as well as shows like Miss
- 1:17Persona and princess sparkly. But I just wanted to say that on
- 1:20a podcast, I'm back to the Rock. She is the body of my gorg and
- 1:241/3 of Marjorie as well. We are extremely pleased to
- 1:28welcome, Ingrid Hansen to the podcast.
- 1:29Hi Ingrid. A murmur ran through a thanks
- 1:32for having me. Of course, thanks for bringing
- 1:34your own theme music, I appreciate it.
- 1:36Yeah, our third guest has been seen on CBC Kids Studio K,
- 1:42Canada, crew, and starred in the Canadian cast of Avenue Q on
- 1:46back to the Rock. They perform Brio and Melody
- 1:49merggle, and they are the final third of Marjorie.
- 1:52The trash Heap. We are extremely pleased to
- 1:54welcome. Kira.
- 1:55Hall to the podcast. Hi Kara.
- 1:57I think. Hello.
- 2:00Me of course what a treat to have all three pieces of the
- 2:06trash Heap here. I hope you don't mind me calling
- 2:09you trash on this post, he said, leiter honor and a pleasure.
- 2:13Oh my god. So let's start with how each of
- 2:19you got started here on Fraggle Rock.
- 2:21I'd love to know more about how you auditioned and what the
- 2:25process was like for you. Let's start with you, Amy.
- 2:31Okay. Yeah, it was It was kind of an
- 2:35intense tough audition. A lot of a lot of vocal audition
- 2:40and and very like they were really trying to fine-tune
- 2:44specificity out of every character which I loved and, you
- 2:49know, just, you know, getting certain colors and our voices
- 2:53and stuff. I think that for the most part,
- 2:55they knew that all of us were puppeteers.
- 2:57So that aspect They knew that we were able to do and can build
- 3:02on, but yeah, that was the vocal aspect of it was a big part of
- 3:08the audition for me. Interesting, Ingrid.
- 3:12Did you find the same where you doing colors with your voice and
- 3:15your audition? Yeah, and they also, I filmed
- 3:20myself doing a bunch of movement and dance with a tooth pulled
- 3:26down over my ISO for American audience.
- 3:28This that's a knit cap. But I basically blindfolded
- 3:33myself and did a bunch of dance and like creature movement and
- 3:36like clown movement, big kind of Buffon clown movement and video
- 3:39sent that in. Because as the gorgs, you can
- 3:42barely see instead of being inside the body of my gorg.
- 3:46I was just like, I was blindfold myself and dancing said that in.
- 3:50So yeah, the I remember doing that on my porch.
- 3:56So you were you knew already that you are auditioning to be a
- 3:58gorg. This wasn't just like, We want
- 4:00you to play some sort of character or we want you in the
- 4:02background and maybe maybe we'll have you playing someone.
- 4:05Like you knew this was going to be like a full body movement,
- 4:10piece beforehand. I don't think I knew.
- 4:12But I knew there were gorgs in the in the piece.
- 4:14And I had experience doing big full body, walk around puppets
- 4:19with help stirs with playing heart.
- 4:21So so, yeah, that was kind of the trajectory.
- 4:25I was like, oh, how do I show them this without having a Giant
- 4:30puppet. Yeah, right.
- 4:34Yeah, that sounds really challenging.
- 4:35I've a lot more questions about ma gorg that we will get to in a
- 4:38moment. But I do find that kind of
- 4:42stuff. Absolutely.
- 4:42Fascinating and terrifying as well.
- 4:44I don't know how I would do it. If it were me.
- 4:46Oh yeah, that's it. That's you kind of Gotta Love
- 4:48The Thrill of being confined. I don't know.
- 4:52That's of having having a to go over your eyes to play a giant.
- 4:57Yeah, of course. Yeah.
- 4:59Yeah. Akira Your audition like, well,
- 5:02Henson didn't know me at all. I kind of lucked out, a friend
- 5:07of mine, a fellow Puppeteer. Jason hopley said, to me, back
- 5:12in the fall before they started filming fraggle.
- 5:14Hey, do you think you might be able to go to Calgary for like
- 5:17four months for thing? I just I think you'd be good and
- 5:21I want to recommend you. I'm like okay.
- 5:23And so then I got an email asking me to audition.
- 5:26So we did a I think there were a couple of scripts and then song
- 5:31had to do some choreography to and then the next stage was
- 5:36sending in some voice auditions. Like Amy was talking about, you
- 5:40got some breakdowns for the characters and got to go through
- 5:42those and then I got a nice email saying, I got to go, hang
- 5:46out with a bunch of other, puppeteers and great people in
- 5:50Calgary. What a gift to just get to live
- 5:54in Fraggle, Rock for three or four months have been
- 5:58incredible. Now, we'll talk more.
- 6:02Like I said, we'll talk more about malgor, we'll talk more
- 6:03about the trash Heap, for sure, but some of you have played
- 6:09specific like named characters that you can really kind of own
- 6:12as your own with this new iteration of Fraggle Rock.
- 6:15Amy for example, you played henchy fraggle.
- 6:18Did you like what was that? Like, or what was that selection
- 6:22process like to get to play a character that really gets a
- 6:26good amount of screen time throughout the season?
- 6:28Yeah, well and I was, I have to admit.
- 6:31I was not I was not a big fan of the way that she was sort of
- 6:37portrayed in the original because she kind of gets beaten
- 6:41quite a bit. And I knew that they were they
- 6:44were wanting to to shift that. And so it was I like Like that,
- 6:51we were kind of figuring it out on the fly a little bit, it's
- 6:55like, okay, well, if that element is taken away, then what
- 7:00else could she be? So, she became dislike kind of
- 7:02like this annoyed assistant to kind of like, just knows more
- 7:07than more than the rest of their group, but just has to stay
- 7:11quiet because she's an underling, right?
- 7:14But the audition process for that was, was just a lot like a
- 7:18lot of playtime in a lot of like, you know, getting to Just
- 7:22sort of throw out ideas and, and incorporate ideas that were
- 7:26already sort of in place. So yeah, it was, it was fun.
- 7:30I've yeah, I was I was, I was really proud to have been
- 7:36throwing the gauntlet of of her and yeah, and get to play.
- 7:42That's pretty cool. And hen she is an interesting
- 7:44character because this version of henchy, like you said, it's
- 7:46very different from the original series and she is a rare case.
- 7:51Is of an adult fraggle, who, like I supposed to like the
- 7:55fraggle five, who were basically kids and adult fraggle, who's
- 7:59also really smart and capable almost.
- 8:03Well, it's weird that you would think the front that the
- 8:06character wouldn't necessarily fit in with everyone else in
- 8:09Fraggle Rock, because of that because they're so different.
- 8:11Did you find that challenging at all?
- 8:12Or was it just like you're just going to play up the
- 8:15exasperation of the whole thing? Yeah, because it's that, you
- 8:19know, you kind of sort of like sit into the We of it all.
- 8:22It's just like you know of course the personality like that
- 8:25would be existed you know II know that.
- 8:27Like because we got to we all got to play Background fraggles
- 8:29as well. And we were really like we all
- 8:32do deep into those personalities of those background fraggles and
- 8:37their lives. Like they were like belives that
- 8:40those background freckles were having and like I feel like the
- 8:44hen she was just sort of like a featured, you know, like a
- 8:46little bit of a featured background fraggle as a fraggle,
- 8:49five were kind of always the, you know, The main, the main
- 8:53idea of the show. But yeah, I love that view,
- 8:57especially, because that means that we could easily have some
- 8:59fraggles spin-offs with all these background characters,
- 9:02just just shift the camera a little bit.
- 9:03Totally. I want to see holy a spin-off.
- 9:07That's I really poke spin off, please.
- 9:10That's yeah. Oh well I guess, I mean that's
- 9:12that's the gimme that that's your Fraser right there is to
- 9:15get piggy, move poke to Seattle. Give him a, give them a talk
- 9:19show. Radio talk show his room.
- 9:21Is the Grizzard to be challenging because Kanye would
- 9:25then have to like jump back and forth, baby, he would do it, he
- 9:29could do it again. Oh yeah, can do anything.
- 9:31He could do anything. Yeah.
- 9:35Kira. And Amy, you both least,
- 9:37according to the Muppet, Wiki starred in different versions of
- 9:40Avenue Q. Did you Bond over this when
- 9:43you're on set? I don't think I could even talk
- 9:46about it. Yeah, I was came on sternly.
- 9:54See, and the first like canadian-based production in
- 9:59Toronto? Amy.
- 10:00Amy. What were you who did you play?
- 10:02I had a very interesting contract because I was hired on
- 10:07as assistant stage manager, like, you know thinking, oh,
- 10:09I'll never go on these people. They're so healthy.
- 10:12They got there. I went on for everybody
- 10:15including characters. I really didn't know.
- 10:18Like, I remember like my horror the horror.
- 10:21Horror was me putting on the overalls to go on as Gary
- 10:26Coleman. Like, not know, because the
- 10:28actress had gotten sick and I was like, I'm done the undercity
- 10:31rehearsals, I've read the lines. I think I know this as pulling
- 10:33my hair back and we had just called in the undercity, to
- 10:36leave a restaurant that she was currently working at to come in
- 10:41and take, like, takeover mid-show.
- 10:43It was like, it was those kind of things, the sad job entailed.
- 10:49That's what I'm saying. Like we before we started the
- 10:51pod. Pastor was I was, I was saying
- 10:53that, like I would just give, you know, take a shower and show
- 10:56up to work. Not really know what I was gonna
- 10:57do that day. So yeah, it's a that was my
- 11:01contract down Q. So I covered it.
- 11:02Everybody a little, you know, it was which was fun but like was
- 11:07was that thrilling, like, did you get a hot?
- 11:09I look at a high off that, or was it like a no more for me?
- 11:12Please. I think I'm getting stages of my
- 11:15adults anxiety. No, no.
- 11:19I mean like, yes. Yes.
- 11:22Sure sure. And then afterwards I was just
- 11:25like, man, I wish I could have gone on.
- 11:27I would have loved to have tried to sing that song try to do loud
- 11:32as the hell it would have been great, you know?
- 11:35But I kept thinking the audience is gonna be real mad.
- 11:43That's not Gary Coleman at all. That's not the thing.
- 11:51That's amazing. If we get more fraggles than I
- 11:54think, we're going to have to get some behind-the-scenes
- 11:56footage of the two of you singing.
- 11:57Some some of the Avenue Q songs with the fraggle, puppets.
- 12:00Oh yeah. I think everyone be okay with
- 12:01that, right? There's no yeah.
- 12:03Oh yeah, really clean. No, not at all.
- 12:09All right, so let's let's talk about this episode into the
- 12:11trash. This is, as we mentioned, it's a
- 12:14trash Heap Centric episode. It's about as eccentric as we
- 12:18could get with the trash, eat because we're right in the
- 12:20middle of her. But this episode starts in Doc's
- 12:24Workshop. Where Doc is continuing her,
- 12:26science experiments to develop a plastic eating bacteria.
- 12:30She says, if she's successful she's going to get to name the
- 12:33bacteria, which is exciting. She's thinking munchie, that's a
- 12:36pretty good name for for bacteria.
- 12:38That munches, unfortunately, the heater on her tank has broken
- 12:42because he tiny little screw is falling out, which is is ruined
- 12:47the entire experiment unless you can get it replaced right away,
- 12:49but that screw is very very tiny.
- 12:54Later on, we check in with them again.
- 12:56And Doc asked, sprocket to breathe his hot dog breath on
- 13:00the tank to keep it warm. And he kind of like starts like
- 13:04on the tank, it doesn't work and she says, I'm glad nobody saw
- 13:07that and then sprocket does this Great take where he looks around
- 13:10and he looks directly down the barrel of the camera and shrugs,
- 13:14I thought that was a nice gag. My brother's dog gets upset and
- 13:19excited every time he sees sprocket on the screen Really he
- 13:23recognizes the puppet as a real dog and even in.
- 13:26So doing, he is well, I mean, of course, but like he is a dog who
- 13:31would know dog better than a real dog?
- 13:33It's trippy and, and even just hearing the sound of sprocket
- 13:37barking. So that's am off, and he starts
- 13:39barking and then he's just Johnny generator tag, like when
- 13:42were right, you know, but it's yeah, I think it's a great
- 13:46litmus test. That's a great litmus test for,
- 13:49for like, like, is this a real dog?
- 13:51And I mean, we Said many times on this podcast, that sprocket
- 13:54is a real dog sprocket. Like there's no question in my
- 13:56mind, it's not. There's not three people
- 13:58underneath that thing puppeteering him.
- 14:00That's know like he's real. We're any of the three of you
- 14:04involved with these Dawkins sprocket sequences later in the
- 14:08episode. I got to have have my brief
- 14:12appearance in Doc's workshop with cotter pin, helping out
- 14:16Donna, Donna, Kimball, but we'll get to that later.
- 14:20We will. Yes, hold that thought Thought
- 14:22but yes, that's that's very exciting.
- 14:25Amy their first. Yeah.
- 14:27My very first day on set I was just sort of like you know your
- 14:31first handset you're just sort of like taking it all in and
- 14:35Johnny was like hey can you come under here and just help with
- 14:37sprockets tail and I was like so excited so it's like it's one of
- 14:42the first episode. I can't remember which one it
- 14:44was but it's like it's an overly excited.
- 14:46Tail Wag their like it made the skin.
- 14:48You you just dial it down the throats of the way.
- 14:52Take down a little bit so it's like a kind of channeling
- 14:55everything through this tale. That's nothing, but excitement.
- 14:57Yeah, and I was like, I was my happiest doing sprockets.
- 15:01Hell was so excited. Yeah, that's cool.
- 15:04That's a dream just to be sprockets tail.
- 15:07Wow. Down in Fraggle, Rock, the
- 15:12tensions are high. We, this is our penultimate
- 15:15episode of the season and all these different things have been
- 15:18piling up on the fraggles. The waterfall is down to a
- 15:21trickle, the doozer, constructions are everywhere
- 15:23because nobody wants to eat them.
- 15:25The pond is full of Goo. The myrtles are, have all been
- 15:27relegated to boobers long tubs. It's a lot making me think this
- 15:32is probably not the best episode for someone to come into cold,
- 15:35like to watch this and to, suddenly be thrown into all this
- 15:38chaos, not understand where any of that came from.
- 15:40Which is a weird thing for Fraggle, Rock is normally the
- 15:42old show was completely, you know, episodic and not
- 15:47serialized like this one. With the three of you were
- 15:51filming. These episodes.
- 15:53Did you feel like that was any sort of a challenge to kind of
- 15:57have to jump into the beginning of an episode and re-establish?
- 16:01What we are, what we're doing, where we are as opposed to just
- 16:04starting fresh every single week.
- 16:10You're all thinking which makes me think that this was not a
- 16:12problem and you were just down to Puppeteer whatever they told
- 16:16you to I mean that's more what the writers have to plan out,
- 16:20you know? Sure but for Russell on the day
- 16:24in the I mean there is so much continuity to the Rock the place
- 16:28and all the characters are so well established that I don't
- 16:31think that wasn't necessarily a challenge on set but it was
- 16:34definitely really exciting to read all the scripts and And get
- 16:38to follow the track, the Journey of the Ark and see the arc
- 16:41through and yeah. Great.
- 16:46Just I mean engines, like, day wise for us to they were, there
- 16:50would be days when we would be shooting more than one episode.
- 16:53Like, where we would be shooting different parts, different parts
- 16:55of with, it's not like when you shoot an episode, you don't
- 16:59really go from, you know, beginning to end, you'll shoot
- 17:02what what is lit? What you know, what portion of
- 17:05the set is ready, or you know, or how many puppeteers you have
- 17:09to be able to to pull off a certain segment of a scene?
- 17:15So Yeah. Yeah, continuity wise for us, at
- 17:20least for me when I finally saw everything cut together.
- 17:22I was just like, yeah, this way, this is epic as we read it
- 17:26because in the moment you're just like, who did we get
- 17:28everything that we needed? You know what I mean?
- 17:29Like you're you kind of, get a little anxious wondering if
- 17:32like, if all the pieces are actually going to be there and
- 17:36then when you finally do see them cut together, it's like
- 17:39yeah, it was that. And then some so it was really
- 17:43satisfying. So I'm curious about and we will
- 17:47talk about this more in a bit. But, you know, seems like like
- 17:50the trash Heap for example, which I assume, you know, I know
- 17:53it was a separate part of the set and, you know, once you get
- 17:56the puppet up and it's well lit, and all that you're probably
- 17:59doing two or three episodes of just trashy ball once.
- 18:04But the tone might shift from script to script so was that a
- 18:08challenge to have to kind of jump back and forth and kind of
- 18:10remember, okay, so what was happening just before this one M
- 18:13after this and now we're coming too.
- 18:15Wheatley different plot where they might have completely
- 18:17different, you know, mood and attitude, and feelings.
- 18:22I mean, it was challenging, but everybody was just we were, we
- 18:25were guided along the way. It was at least, you know, it
- 18:28never ever felt like, you know. Okay.
- 18:30And just go, you know what I mean?
- 18:32We were it was definitely a lot of, like, this is what's coming?
- 18:35Next. This is what came before or
- 18:37this, is the the tone that we're looking for, we didn't quite get
- 18:40it. Let's go back and try it in a
- 18:42different way, or, from a different angle, or everything
- 18:45was, was double and triple checked, which was, which I so
- 18:51very much She dated. Yes, well definitely comes
- 18:54across in the final product because it's seamless.
- 18:57I would have never known that you didn't.
- 18:59Yeah, just do one at a time. Straight through.
- 19:02Wow, so boober has been making soup.
- 19:06That's his job. He's the soup guy among the
- 19:10soups. He's making our seaweed soup for
- 19:12the myrtles. Pumpkin bisque for the crackles.
- 19:14He's making a baby corn soup for the Doozers and the horrible
- 19:20like yeah, right. Baby corn that we find out.
- 19:25That's what Doozers eat is baby corn.
- 19:27So cute. It is adorable.
- 19:30And I mean just the fact that like I never thought about what
- 19:32Doozers eats because I mean I assume is some cart sort of
- 19:36radish something. But you know I guess boober
- 19:39makes them treats what a nice thing for him to do in a tiny
- 19:42little cauldron, And the world's oldest fraggle in the west
- 19:48comes, wise counsel emerge, and they need boobers help, it's
- 19:53because they're out of radish noodle soup.
- 19:55So, that's the fourth soup here, a lot of soup now Ingrid.
- 20:00Correct me if I'm wrong. Did you perform the world's
- 20:03oldest fraggle in this episode? No, Frank performed world's.
- 20:07Oldest fraggle. But there were several points
- 20:09where I had to step in and for, you know, the long shots and
- 20:12stuff and I'd be the world. Oldest fraggle when Frank was in
- 20:15boober. So yeah there's some points but
- 20:17almost all the you know, all the meaty Parts like the close-ups
- 20:20and things were usually always Frank.
- 20:22There were some, I got to do a couple little little bleeps and
- 20:25bloops which was so fun. I'm like a, it's just such a
- 20:31Bonkers weirdo and he's so you'll just like, takes over
- 20:34your whole body and he's like always flipping his beard.
- 20:37And I remember there was one point where director Father
- 20:44Frozen Church. Okay, John resin bomb.
- 20:47Resin bomb. He called okay, Frank can you
- 20:52can you get the world's oldest fraggle to start a little
- 20:54earlier in the scene and I was like I made him call me dr.
- 21:00Muscles are the world's oldest fraggle.
- 21:02Made the director call him dr. Muscles is like it's not
- 21:06Richard. Frank ever hear its decorations
- 21:09to you dr. Muscles but Sorry tangent.
- 21:16Look Whatever Gets You Into the character.
- 21:19I hear for it and we're going to add to the world's oldest
- 21:22fraggle. 'S Muppet wiki page that he is
- 21:26also known as dr. Musacchio its Cannon now it's
- 21:31can induce a lot of podcasts now everyone knows that's incredible
- 21:36and there's a great photo of you performing the world's oldest
- 21:39fraggle, Ingrid on The Muppet Wiki, which is why I assumed
- 21:42that you were performing in this episode.
- 21:44Yeah well I feel a little steps in.
- 21:46Yeah it was really fun. Yeah.
- 21:49That's got to be the most fun, one of the most fun character,
- 21:50those characters who can literally just say anything and
- 21:53and it's in character like, what fun, what a great, what a great
- 21:57gift. So Uber is disappointed that he
- 22:04is the soup guy and he doesn't have real responsibilities.
- 22:08He really wants to help because there's so much going wrong here
- 22:10in Fraggle Rock. So Gobo is helping with a
- 22:13travelling. Matt postcard and boobers
- 22:16replies to him. You just go right for it, don't
- 22:18you? Which is a, that's a good line
- 22:20reading. He is backstage at a concert and
- 22:24he takes the stage, the audience.
- 22:25Cheers, and turns out they're not sharing for him.
- 22:27They are cheering for Dave, Grohl celebrity Human Dave Grohl
- 22:31right behind him because they're the Foo Fighters concert which
- 22:36is like a it's a it's a really interesting Balancing Act here
- 22:41that we don't normally have humans aside from Doc on
- 22:44Fraggle, Rock at all. And here we have not just a
- 22:47human or a series of series of humans but celebrities which is
- 22:51completely alien to Fraggle Rock but I don't know about you.
- 22:55I feel like it works in this context.
- 22:57How did you all feel? Absolutely.
- 23:00Like the like of all the bands, like, right the Foo Fighters to
- 23:04believe. Yeah, I love that.
- 23:05It's like such a symbiotic, like, love that fraggles.
- 23:08You know what I mean? Like, that?
- 23:10We love them. They love us.
- 23:13That sort of, that, that, that was, that was a lovely thing to
- 23:17sort of. Yeah, pick a celebrity who's,
- 23:20like, down to earth down to clown, just gonna lean into the
- 23:24silliness of the moment and not be weird about it.
- 23:27It's going to be Dave Grohl. Like they, I thought they nailed
- 23:31the tone. Yeah I completely agree I love
- 23:35the sequins. It could have been done so
- 23:37poorly and it was not so yeah I thought it worked.
- 23:41I also have a few interesting observations about this.
- 23:44We'll see if they're interesting as I say them out loud, I tried
- 23:47to do a quick head. Count of how many people were in
- 23:48the audience and a comment around 50 or 60 extras.
- 23:53Which can you imagine, can you imagine going to a Foo Fighters
- 23:56concert and you were one of only 50 people like this intimate
- 24:00little club that would never happen to me, They're probably
- 24:03selling out like Madison Square Garden right now you know tens
- 24:06of thousands of people but like yes you have meals at that up
- 24:09and like a jazz club with candles on the table or
- 24:12something if it was right. Yeah D person.
- 24:14Yeah yeah, amazing also, Dave Grohl, I did a little research
- 24:21is one of as far as I know, only three celebrities who have
- 24:25completed the trifecta of having worked with the Muppets Sesame
- 24:28Street, and Fraggle Rock icon. So dick, Cause not many people
- 24:33have worked with many celebrities.
- 24:34Have worked with fraggles it. Also, you know, that, that
- 24:37really narrows it down, Dave Grohl, as most people remember,
- 24:42was in the 2011 Muppets movie. He was also in the 2015 Muppet
- 24:46sitcom and on Sesame Street. He's saying the main theme song
- 24:51for their 50th Anniversary, Road Trip, special series of episodes
- 24:56and now of course here in Fraggle Rock.
- 24:58I am curious. Not that, you know, I assume
- 25:02that you're not them up. Fanatics that I am.
- 25:05But can you guess as to who the other celebrities might be?
- 25:10Oh gosh, no Rita Moreno, no Rita, no, that would be cool.
- 25:18I would love to see Rita Moreno with a fraggle, but I don't, I
- 25:22don't think she has kinky Union, who's the guy who played the
- 25:26voice of Jackhammer? Oh, Kenan Thompson, Katie
- 25:29Thompson? Yeah, no, I don't think he's
- 25:31ever worked with the Muppets. He's worked.
- 25:34Feel like he's been on Sesame Street without having looked it
- 25:36up, but I don't think so. It's not, it's Sesame and
- 25:38fraggles. Yeah.
- 25:40Oh I'm not even know any celebrities names Mark Hamill
- 25:44Mark Hamill Mark. Hamill my Camp.
- 25:46How cool with that? I wish you can.
- 25:49We get it from our cam on season two Fraggle Rock, please.
- 25:52Oh my gosh, I've got to work on it.
- 25:53You know. I was really worried who I was
- 25:55really working. Who's that with Jason?
- 26:08What would you we're getting way off?
- 26:09Topic. I don't care.
- 26:10But what do you want to do with Jason?
- 26:12Momoa and fraggles? We are deeply.
- 26:15I'm not what? I'm not asking.
- 26:18What you want to do a Jason Momoa.
- 26:20I have a few ideas. What do you want to see?
- 26:23Jason Momoa do with the fraggle Universe.
- 26:26With the fraggle. Can feel that he American eagle
- 26:29or a human Gardner in the courtyard and come and tend to
- 26:35yeah, yeah, I see that. Like I said, I use.
- 26:38Yeah, he made me swear. Wake up like a tank top.
- 26:41He's a little little sweaty. Yeah, you know.
- 26:44Yeah, I guess I do like the idea of him playing Americans as a
- 26:49self-proclaimed Aquaman fanatic. I like that idea very much.
- 26:53All right, so I'll tell you the two, the two celebrities who
- 26:57have also worked with all three. We got Neil Patrick Harris
- 27:01because he was on Fraggle, Rock Rock on the the and this is also
- 27:08is a deep cut. And if anyone out there would
- 27:10have guessed this, I am super impressed, Ziggy Marley has
- 27:14worked all three and now I'm bending the rules, slightly
- 27:18because Ziggy Marley was on Fraggle, Rock rock on as well.
- 27:22He made an appearance in like the 90s on Sesame Street and he
- 27:26sings the song Love Power which plays during the credits of
- 27:30Muppet Treasure Island. How about that for a deal?
- 27:33Oh my God. So I think, Dave, Grohl Winds of
- 27:38the three of them. Also, like pretty pretty
- 27:40impressive. The only three I appreciate
- 27:44Ziggy like sneaking in there though.
- 27:46That's right. Yeah, well, I got with an
- 27:49asterisk for that for that Muppet Treasure Island.
- 27:51One feel like they need to collect their own club like
- 27:55their own like, yeah, Couture or lapel pin or something - oh,
- 27:59yeah, Danny got ya, little statue of Jim's like called a
- 28:07hen. See, ugh NC man.
- 28:10Okay, we gotta make this happen. So, We were talking about Dave
- 28:15Grohl but also the rest of the Foo Fighters band is is all
- 28:17there, Pat smear, Chris Shiflett, Nate, Mendel and Ramey
- 28:21Jaffe. But also I think we have to
- 28:23mention that the drummer Taylor Hawkins is also there who
- 28:26recently passed away suddenly and this might be one of his
- 28:29final TV performances which is pretty.
- 28:32I mean it's really it's sad obviously but it's the feels
- 28:34much more special that he got to be a part of this.
- 28:37Yeah, absolutely. Hmm.
- 28:40It was something super fun. Yes.
- 28:43Me too and you know as Muppet fans we all get to appreciate
- 28:47him for the work. He did.
- 28:49You know for this one one little piece of Muppet history after
- 28:54the postcard. Boober unsurprisingly is not
- 28:57feeling very inspired. He says soup isn't meaningful.
- 29:03That's lunch. And honestly, I kind of agree.
- 29:07Even though soup is often a disappointing lunch, Gobo
- 29:11decides to cheer him up, he's going to write him a song.
- 29:14And he sings this like be Babu. Birdie dot-to-dot number song.
- 29:19Yeah, that's a good one. I dig that one.
- 29:22It was good, and he's like, he kind of congratulates himself,
- 29:25like, yep, another perfect Gobo song.
- 29:27I love that up. This about this version of Gobo
- 29:29that. He's just like, yeah, I write
- 29:30songs and they're all brilliant and Everyone likes it and they
- 29:33like me because of it. And I look great in every hat
- 29:36and he looks good in every hat. Yeah, incredible it ties nicely
- 29:42to that moment and episode 1 where a Up his picture that he
- 29:45drew for Uncle traveling Matt and it's just like the stick.
- 29:47Figure thing and Wembley's like us, is there anything you can't
- 29:50do gobos one accomplish, dude? Yeah, that's true.
- 29:57And I mean, I posited, the theory in an earlier podcast
- 30:00episode that every song Gobo rights is just a variation of
- 30:03the Fraggle Rock theme song because that's the birthday song
- 30:06he sings for Wembley and Wendy's birthday per episode.
- 30:09And this unfortunately kind of debunks that theory but I don't
- 30:14know, maybe maybe draft to it'll sound a little bit more, maybe
- 30:16they'll add a couple of handclaps that'll do it.
- 30:19That's later in the series. He's branching in a New
- 30:20Direction, like the Beatles, you know?
- 30:22Exactly? Right.
- 30:26So Boomer has now for soup cauldrons going at once with all
- 30:29these different soups and they're not tasting, so great.
- 30:33He needs more radishes. So he goes to the pantry and who
- 30:37does he see? But well, it depends on if
- 30:40you're an old-school fraggle fan or a new school fraggle fan.
- 30:44I've been calling him big uni because that's who he was on the
- 30:47old show, but now he's Bongo. But booney was originally seen
- 30:51in the episode, The Incredible Shrinking Mochi and later the
- 30:55puppet was used in Muppet Christmas, Carol Muppet Treasure
- 30:57Island. So, you might recognize this
- 30:58this furry bunny looking to dude.
- 31:01But here he's Bongo. It's a totally different
- 31:04character played by you Amy is that right?
- 31:07Oh yeah. So how did how did that happen?
- 31:10He shows up actually a lot throughout The throughout the
- 31:14series just he kind of like Pops in you know, edger frame or he's
- 31:18in the background and quite a bit.
- 31:20But that was that was a Johnny thing that was just like a me do
- 31:22this. Oh great which is sort of like
- 31:25how we got assigned. Things loves the casting.
- 31:29Yeah it was one of those kind of situations but it was not like
- 31:39you need to because this this world is.
- 31:42I'm sure you guys have talked It is another another episodes this
- 31:46world is parallel to the Fraggle Rock World, right.
- 31:48It's not like beginning in another timeline it's like
- 31:51parallel timelines that wherever and however he existed in
- 31:56Fraggle Rock before in this one it's kind of new and isolate so
- 32:02everything kind of we can we could own things a little more
- 32:05wasn't right is its precious right?
- 32:08And it also makes sense for things like you know as much as
- 32:11I would love it. If you were like it's Mikuni.
- 32:13Bourbon guney and then the to fans of jub like I do.
- 32:17But but you would have to like then incorporate The Goonies
- 32:23personality and history, and to this one moment, which is maybe
- 32:26not worth it especially because, like, begoony in that old
- 32:28episode is like a bit of a sad sack and overemotional, and has
- 32:32these weird magic powers. And it's like we just need
- 32:35someone who's gonna be eating radishes.
- 32:36Don't ya, participate? Right?
- 32:38Right, right. For sure, Pantry, eater radish,
- 32:42rival, light, go. The stunt is how to keep the
- 32:46right of crumble in the puppets mouth before he speaks.
- 32:49And then, yes, that was literally what I was about to
- 32:52ask. It's like, how did the actual
- 32:54eating of that wretch? Because it looks like there's
- 32:56crumbs all over his face in their flying, I am talking
- 33:00preset every time. Okay, solid solid preset, thank
- 33:04you props. So I would assume by the end of
- 33:07the shoot you're just like standing in a pile of fake
- 33:10radish crumbs. Oh yeah, full on in my like in
- 33:13the hair. Are like next morning, still
- 33:15picking them up. Yeah, yeah, it's great.
- 33:17What was that, what was that made out of uh, out of
- 33:19curiosity. Do you know crumbs?
- 33:23Yeah, it's just like there was just felt like little pieces of
- 33:26foam. Yeah, I mean they would it was
- 33:28like a little foam radish that they and then I think they
- 33:31flocked they would use that little flocking stuff on it and
- 33:33then paint that saw them when they would go to crumble it.
- 33:37It was literally just closed foam and flock the Plucky fleas.
- 33:43Let me play is its television. Magic is what it is?
- 33:47Yeah, boober. Now obviously out of radishes
- 33:52has to go into the gorgs garden to get some more.
- 33:55It's going to be quick and easy trip, right?
- 33:57No. Nothing's going to go wrong, but
- 33:59just as he gets there Philo and gunge pop out of nowhere,
- 34:02panicked screaming. They are begging for boobers
- 34:05help and take him directly to the trash Heap.
- 34:09This is our first shot of the trash heap of this episode and
- 34:12she's sick. So she's not looking like her
- 34:14normal trashy self. I do want to talk a little bit.
- 34:19We got to get back into the plot but before we do, let's talk
- 34:21about the trash Heap herself. So can each of you tell me what
- 34:25your responsibilities were for which part of the trash Heap?
- 34:30It's like Amy. I assumed that you were to the
- 34:31mouth in the voice, right? I was yeah.
- 34:34So inside of this trash Heap, she's kind of like a giant Leaf
- 34:40tent, all right. Imagine if you will a giant Leaf
- 34:44tent. We're like the where the top of
- 34:47her head is like this Dome with a pole that holds her up, right?
- 34:52And there's like a little trigger for her little blinky
- 34:55eyes which are just like, just two gigantic, you know, sockets
- 35:00of Of of nothingness, and then he's got a little, she's got a
- 35:04little mouth. That's kind of, like, always
- 35:06just getting sad that you just sort of flap, open, and close
- 35:10this way. So, um, you're like, holding
- 35:12this poll and holding a spot, so I have no other arms left.
- 35:15So then I have my two beautiful assistants who will become the,
- 35:20who, who literally, I don't, I don't think that Marjorie would
- 35:24be a character, if, if, if it wasn't for these two beautiful.
- 35:30for humans because they all I was doing is this Miss and
- 35:36giving her a voice and then they, that's it, you know, just
- 35:44into a metal harness, every one of these drum major, you
- 35:59know, Like a marching band. And with like this little cup
- 36:05that you would put the poll in. And so, I don't have to go into
- 36:07deep squat to kind of get her to go like to go down.
- 36:10And then once I was like standing up fully then she was
- 36:13like completely you know, she was her full size but then I
- 36:20mean the amount of space in there was very limited.
- 36:26We all smelled very nice. And love the love each other
- 36:32dearly because of it, I mean we were any other any other three
- 36:38humans. I don't think would have had as
- 36:40good of a time because we were all just so like we were so into
- 36:44it was like okay this is gonna suck for a little bit but we're
- 36:47going to make this look really good because we're we were all
- 36:51so close that it was that there was no way to not understand
- 36:55what the other person was doing so that kind of helped on the
- 36:58inside and some good ones. No, please God.
- 37:02No, somebody would tell me. Oh yeah, it used to be a solo
- 37:05thing and I'm thinking there is no way, no way human cannot come
- 37:09to you that there's no way. I mean unless you're like,
- 37:12sitting on a stool with your like legs, going to know, Jerry
- 37:16Nelson had four arms. So he was able to do this by
- 37:20that. Well, that isn't bad.
- 37:22Yes, after the surgery he was able to do a lot more.
- 37:25Correct. Yes.
- 37:27Ingrid and Kira. So you each took one Unarmed.
- 37:31Is that right? Yeah, we took arms off of
- 37:34strangers. We know, I always ask someone.
- 37:40I know no Ingrid, was on the left, and I was on the right.
- 37:45So we had, I think they were snowmobile gloves that we put
- 37:50inside our hands to fill out. Those fingers a little bit
- 37:52better. And then we kind of, like, I'm
- 37:55going to visually demonstrate this great for a podcast, like,
- 37:58reach forward into the The arm and then we kind of would
- 38:02position our bodies like facing a me.
- 38:06Uh yeah, I can see that you're facing the netting of the puppet
- 38:19and your nose is smushed up against right?
- 38:21Papa? Yeah, that makes sense.
- 38:23And I we assume the kid. I had a monitor in between each
- 38:28between us. Down so that we could see what
- 38:31was happening. Think we had to sometimes that
- 38:33they'd be at the right angle so we could see them.
- 38:35Yes. Yeah.
- 38:35And the name he had another monitor kind of behind.
- 38:38Um yeah I was doing one of these side.
- 38:43Look I'm looking at my side. Yeah.
- 38:45Yeah. And then I would also have to
- 38:47assume that when there are probably some scenes where the
- 38:51following guns are awfully close maybe even like on top of the
- 38:54trash Heap and you have to make puppeteers in that in that
- 38:58puppet with you. Yeah, Lee.
- 39:00Leaning upon me like, whoa. Oh, it was great.
- 39:07They weren't underneath with you, where they know on the
- 39:10derelict hind you there on the ground behind me, but like upon,
- 39:13you know, because it happened we have to, like, could make
- 39:15connection with with the Heap. So they're like, I'm gonna rest
- 39:19right here and I'm like, I'm gonna hold you tight.
- 39:21Cuz I Just wrong and someone I got it.
- 39:34I can't remember who mentioned in an earlier episode that
- 39:36you're also like up on a riser, right.
- 39:39Let's a good to get the right. So, are you literally just like
- 39:43six inches away? From just make a misstep and
- 39:45then the whole puppet comes crashing down on the ground with
- 39:47you. No, no, no.
- 39:49It was wide enough. So if I think it was literally
- 39:52just a big block of Styrofoam because the set has to be raised
- 39:57high enough. That the puppeteers who Art
- 40:00inside a pile of leaves, can still reach over their heads to
- 40:04do their performance. And so we needed to be hired so
- 40:09that Marjorie could rise higher. So I think the block was about.
- 40:12What do you think? Three feet tall?
- 40:15Got my God. Yeah and then maybe like three
- 40:19feet of Headroom again then between us and the set, right?
- 40:22And we just end and then Marjorie would make a little
- 40:24Dome when she was down because she would like compress and
- 40:28raised think like, like a like A springy not springy, I'm not
- 40:33using the right word, but she could raise and lower obviously.
- 40:36And so at like a neutral seated position, we could just kind of
- 40:41hang out in there. It was like our Fort.
- 40:44We supposed to lay down, we were just like a lie down, we would
- 40:47lie down between these styrofoam doesn't get cold.
- 40:51No, we're always like a little nuggets, that look like great.
- 40:54Yeah, wait, you guys have great Mets in Canada?
- 40:56Who put like a little brown It was like a granola look.
- 41:02Yeah decoration on. Is that to like as like fake
- 41:04dirt? Sure.
- 41:06Yeah. But it would just but because
- 41:08marjorie's kind of like made out of mesh they would like kind of
- 41:10just come through so it's like Rain Down on Me.
- 41:13Maybe I ain't raining on me rain.
- 41:16Yeah it was just kind of raining down because it's awesome.
- 41:19Yeah. So I also have to know about
- 41:23Marjorie as a character like, there's obviously some big
- 41:26changes between the old Marjorie and the new one.
- 41:30The most Obvious, of course, is the fact that, you know, she was
- 41:33previously performed by Jerry Nelson, who was male identifying
- 41:37person and now rightfully, so this female characters performed
- 41:41by women, what, in your eyes is different or updated between the
- 41:48old Marjorie, and your version of Marjorie. well when I was
- 41:54what I was listening to or watching the fraggles to try to
- 41:57figure out where am I gonna place this voice because at the
- 42:01very beginning Jerry had her almost like a very Eastern
- 42:08European like almost like this in like not really
- 42:12distinguishable kind of voice but then like as the series
- 42:15progressed it kind of fell into this like he found his Groove
- 42:21and I was sort of like I kept asking questions, I was like,
- 42:23well, how how how how how much of this do you want, you know,
- 42:28and in my head I was just trying to sort of like I knew I could
- 42:33deliver like Mother Earth eat Mists but I didn't I didn't want
- 42:39to kind of skew any specific culture, you know, but because
- 42:48Philemon grunge were so very distinctively.
- 42:52You know what? He's like, Brooklyn or jerseys
- 42:56Jersey their Jersey. Yeah, yeah.
- 42:58So they were like, yeah, she can live in that.
- 43:02Old which I was like okay you know but in my head I'm like
- 43:07thinking that now here it I'm going to hear people lot like
- 43:13this boys and not like these choices and you know and I'm I
- 43:18was so relieved when people are like yeah yeah bring her back
- 43:22you know like I was so I felt really honored because it was
- 43:25it's terrifying doing a Legacy character.
- 43:28I need to like just flat out say that it's like Because you have
- 43:33this you know and I and you know Jerry Nelson, rest in peace.
- 43:38Like thank you so much for this. This beautiful gift of allowing
- 43:42me to be able to do this, but it's, you know, I can't imagine
- 43:46what it must be like, for people doing Legacy characters that are
- 43:49still with us, you know, like a like, oh my gosh.
- 43:53Look at that, that kind of Terror that you kind of
- 43:58experience of wanting to, to just really Smash and feel match
- 44:04the the original character, but you know, I was given a lot of
- 44:12notes and, and really tried to get her in a pocket.
- 44:15And in my head, you know, when I, when I think about going into
- 44:18her, I think about Mark, she's kind of like a little bit of a
- 44:21Peter Griffin for me, you know, like a female Peter, Peter grow
- 44:25my God, where I kind of go, but, but, like, you know, it's not
- 44:29necessarily, she's not completely.
- 44:32We Peter Griffin. But you know and then it's like
- 44:34every woman from New York that I've ever met.
- 44:36Yeah. You know what I mean?
- 44:38Like so. And every mother I've ever known
- 44:43as well because again in the end that's what I feel that she that
- 44:47she sort of is in represents. Yeah, I like that a lot that
- 44:51she's more of a motherly character than like this like
- 44:54ethereal Sage thing you know that like she's basically made
- 45:01up of more magic than Then mother which now it's kind of
- 45:05flipped where it's like us are still magic but like you can
- 45:07still have a conversation with her, you know, she's not just
- 45:10speaking in these weird, you know, cliches and vague hints
- 45:14at, you know, like you don't really understand what the heck
- 45:17she was talking about until the 22 minutes are up.
- 45:20Right? Right.
- 45:21Just like oh that's what she meant, right.
- 45:23Right. Right.
- 45:24Yeah. We do get a bit of that in this
- 45:25episode. Yeah, I just realized that in
- 45:29the fraggles own with the fraggles.
- 45:32They don't have. Parents and children.
- 45:33So there aren't really any kind of mother type characters in the
- 45:36cactus or fraggles and that's how Marjorie she is like a like
- 45:40a the wise mother because we have Ma gorg and we yeah, the
- 45:46right raggles. Don't the chill Kragle shoulder
- 45:48just kind of gamble about and like eat sticks off the floor,
- 45:52right? And as we were saying before
- 45:54like in Fraggle, Rock the 50 characters who are supposed to
- 45:57be these like adults, you know you end up with like world's
- 46:00oldest fraggle and I see Joe And I guess large Marvin is
- 46:04technically an adult because he's part of the wise counsel,
- 46:07like these are not, anyone likes no one with any kind of real
- 46:10Authority. The one who actually knows
- 46:12anything about how the world Works knowing that anyone even
- 46:15really kind of looks up to, you know, except in a, you know, a
- 46:19stature kind of waiting on them in a parental, kind of way.
- 46:22So yes, I'm Marjorie is pretty much it like, that is the
- 46:24parental character for all the fraggles.
- 46:27That's a lot of pressure for one trash Heap.
- 46:30Right? Right, right.
- 46:32Right. Well, unfortunately, for this
- 46:38this maternal figure. She is ill.
- 46:41She is sick. She says, I may be trashed, but
- 46:44I feel like garbage. It's just I say that all the
- 46:48time, mostly the first half of that sentence, I like that.
- 46:52She's got like a hot water bottle on her head and she's got
- 46:55what looks like two, tiny trash bags, I think otherwise a little
- 46:59doggie bags under her eyes. Look what a great.
- 47:03What a great little touch. I didn't notice that until, like
- 47:07my third viewing of this episode, The like, oh, that's
- 47:09not just leaves. Its there's actually a little
- 47:11little bags. What a great.
- 47:13Yeah. Was there anything else that
- 47:15kind of indicated that she was sick?
- 47:16Physically that I maybe missed that you can monitor show
- 47:21thermometer to do. I miss that.
- 47:22Yeah at the very beginning. Yeah I don't know if it did it,
- 47:26make it in the cut, it probably did and I just have so much
- 47:29going on, you know, the Bears was it always Is with the trash
- 47:33Heap. Yeah, yeah.
- 47:35Yeah. One point, they talked about
- 47:37doing an extra wilted, banana peel on her head and happened.
- 47:41I can't recall, but it was just supposed to like slide like just
- 47:44like even more rotted. A nasty than usual, lovely.
- 47:49Oh, keep an eye out for that. Well, do all try to do like a
- 47:52side by side comparison of banana peels for.
- 47:56She tells boober that he is the only one who can save her.
- 47:59I don't know why In This Moment. Nobody's asking.
- 48:02Ey. Can't follow Philo and gunge.
- 48:04Save her. We I mean there is an answer
- 48:07will get to eventually but like in the moment it's like oh you
- 48:09just need to go underground and you know like these guys are the
- 48:12same size as a fraggle sudden, one of them, right?
- 48:15Right. Boober does not realistically do
- 48:18you think Philo and gunge have ever done anything useful?
- 48:21That's a good question. I mean they for other than
- 48:24pumping up Marjorie, of course for her.
- 48:27I feel like they probably have but it's been like Stuff.
- 48:32It's been like, oh, you need me to get you, you know an apple
- 48:36corer. Great.
- 48:36I'll go find you an apple core. Great.
- 48:38Now I'm your favorite of the day but like yeah, but since going
- 48:41on right men? Yeah, right, yeah.
- 48:43Like they're not they're not gonna like, you know scale the
- 48:46mountain for her. They're not gonna return that
- 48:49one true ring to Mordor or whatever.
- 48:53Now no they're not. Quite qualified.
- 48:56Know exactly. We interrupt this podcast for a
- 49:00special postcard from our Uncle traveling.
- 49:03John's Heart, A glia and A fraggle fast facts.
- 49:07Today's fraggle, fast factors! Yes!
- 49:09You recognize that puppet and reusing reintroducing background
- 49:12puppets. So when I was a kid, one of my
- 49:14favorite parts of watching Fraggle, Rock were all the
- 49:16background characters, I loved them.
- 49:18The Ink Spots. The cave creatures, even though
- 49:20they rarely were part of the main stories, they were part of
- 49:23the life of the Rock and we knew it was really important with
- 49:25back to the Rock to keep that going.
- 49:28So, we were so lucky because the Creature Shop had so many of the
- 49:32original Background puppets in storage and they pulled them out
- 49:35and it was like Christmas morning opening these boxes and
- 49:37finding these beautiful background puppets that some of
- 49:40which hadn't been used in years and years probably since the
- 49:43Show wrapped in the 80s. So the Creature Shop,
- 49:45refurbished them and rebuild some of them and it was so
- 49:48exciting on set to get to, to use them.
- 49:51So that bhikkhuni you see in the background now known as Bongo
- 49:54that is the original, those Ink Spots are the original, they're
- 49:56all refurbished, but they are the original and then it was fun
- 49:59to come up with new little creatures.
- 50:01But Yeah, that was one of the joys of the show was keeping
- 50:05that idea that there was a whole world to this rock that exists
- 50:09beyond the main fraggles and and, you know, you got to keep
- 50:12your eyes peeled, we really threw in a bunch of fun, little
- 50:15Easter eggs, for all of you out there, I had a blast, you know,
- 50:19throwing mud well, the mud bunny in the background or again, but
- 50:22booney or whoever we could find at the flute bird and all those
- 50:25great characters. So, keep your eyes open for
- 50:27them. They're all there.
- 50:28And that's your fraggle Fastback.
- 50:29Now, back to the podcast. So boober is not thinking that
- 50:37he's the right fraggle for the job, he's sick.
- 50:39So He suggests Gobo or red, or maybe Wembley or Mochi, maybe
- 50:43even pogie which honestly, I would have want to see that
- 50:47episode Hoagie going. A little solo journey to write a
- 50:51spin-off or a fan fiction versions exactly right.
- 50:56Sundra fanfiction to Ingrid Hanson, the Marjorie tells
- 51:03boober, you must go in To the trash which is the name of this
- 51:07episode and she gestures behind her to the mountain of trash of
- 51:12like just this huge landfill which we've never, I never even
- 51:16thought about the fact that there was more than just this
- 51:19little piece of Marjorie. Like she is a lot of trash and
- 51:28she's helped Uber. She's feeling all broken up
- 51:30inside. She needs boober to go in and
- 51:32put it all together and there's a pizza box that opens.
- 51:35Up. And there's a tunnel inside that
- 51:37leads underground which confirms my theory that the gorgs can and
- 51:42do receive pizza delivery. I mean, right, we're also they
- 51:54have gotten the box, right? That's what I'm saying.
- 51:58Boober gets sucked into that tunnel, he goes head first down
- 52:02this thing and he falls into just this.
- 52:05Room completely, huge room, full of trash.
- 52:08This is a really impressive set design that I can't imagine what
- 52:12it would have looked like in person.
- 52:14It was amazing in person. It was a real build like they
- 52:16built that whole massive Wald and I think we have to talk
- 52:21about how there was trash training from the ceiling
- 52:25throughout that shot that scene. Yeah and it's real trash and
- 52:30wear helmets. Yeah, it war.
- 52:32Huh. Listen helmets and then they had
- 52:35All the lovely special effects crew, all these young dudes
- 52:40standing behind the wall, with buckets of trash, talking it,
- 52:44over the wall, so that it would be constantly raining down on
- 52:47us. And so, you'd be doing this
- 52:49scene. And, you know, you're doing,
- 52:50you're staring at your mind and you're focusing and your, and
- 52:52then all of a sudden doing something hits, the clocks, even
- 52:55the head, and you're just, it doesn't hurt.
- 52:58But it's very jarring because you don't know that it's coming.
- 53:02You can't see it coming like big hunks of Plastic garbage and
- 53:06stuff, you know, like what? Because the garbage like when
- 53:10you say that because I'm sure there's I'm assuming it wasn't
- 53:12like tin cans and things like that.
- 53:14Rustling, look harder plastic. Yeah, they're like bowls and
- 53:19cups and yeah, water bottles. Then like yeah, things that
- 53:24things that, that had a little bit of weight to that but not
- 53:28anything. That would be super.
- 53:29Hurty. Yeah, I never heard but it was
- 53:32just very interesting. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 53:36startling. Yeah.
- 53:37And maybe not good for like performing.
- 53:40You know, I have lines to say, man barely over at Kanya and,
- 53:44and seeing him deeply concentrating.
- 53:47Ashley, and I'm just getting beaned in the head surprised
- 53:50face and then back into the scene.
- 53:53Just yeah, that was my favorite. That's incredible, man.
- 53:56Yeah, well before we figure out what's going on with boober,
- 54:01we're going to check in with cotterpin doozer.
- 54:03She is driving around In her tiny little doozer car, which is
- 54:06adorable, trying to think of ways to fix this goo problem.
- 54:11And she comes across the fraggle hole leading into outer space,
- 54:16which is once you go through that thing, like she's one of
- 54:20very few Fraggle, Rock characters that have crossed
- 54:22that threshold, you know, Matt and Bobo for sure.
- 54:25You know, maybe in the old series it was a couple other
- 54:27examples, but I can't think of any.
- 54:30She climbs the hairy Mountain Kira?
- 54:33I assume that was you climbing up on?
- 54:35Rockets back. Yeah that was my first day on
- 54:37set it was your first day. Yeah that that's all that stuff
- 54:43with cotter pin was well okay so we shot that stuff.
- 54:48My first day and then we did some reshoots later in front of
- 54:51the blue screen because they're that that that first day there'd
- 54:56been some issues with like the RC puppets and the live at live
- 54:59puppets. But I was there trying to figure
- 55:01out how to make cotter pin. Climb breathing sprocket with
- 55:04Don. On one side and Karen on the
- 55:07other side. Like, oh god dude.
- 55:09Good job, please. Not to impress them.
- 55:13It's your first day. That that no joke.
- 55:16I don't want to gloss over that. That sounds terrifying like as
- 55:20nice as both of those humans are their wonderful human beings.
- 55:24But also to be crammed between them and doing like in front of
- 55:29these very talented puppeteers and showing off your own
- 55:31puppetry with they're literally right next to you.
- 55:34That sounds terrifying. Sighing intimidating, intent
- 55:37intimidating but yeah, Donna, Karen are the nicest people on
- 55:41the planet so that it that helps, that's good.
- 55:44Yeah. And like you said, sprocket
- 55:47really. Looks like he's breathing, which
- 55:48is a nice touch. Yeah, I'm so believe, Johnny was
- 55:52there doing like just the simple breath movement for sprocket at
- 55:56the time? Yeah, yeah.
- 55:58And again, like, because he's supposed to be asleep, so like
- 56:01to just give them a little bit of life but also like then
- 56:03you're as Cotter pin. On top and trying to match the
- 56:07rise and fall while climbing while reciting lines, you know,
- 56:13that sounds like a lot of business.
- 56:15Yeah, I think, I think Karen was on like the main body movement
- 56:19and Donna was doing like the face and I was on the hands, so
- 56:26trying to get that to two brains one straw thing.
- 56:29Frank always talks about Yeah. Two brains one straw.
- 56:34Sorry, that's the thing. Frank mesh collider always says
- 56:36is when you're assisting someone with a puppet and there's two of
- 56:39you working on the puppet, it's two brains one straw.
- 56:42Hmm. I like that me to steal it
- 56:45covering climbs up onto docks table, and finds that loose
- 56:48screw and uses her teeny tiny drill to reinstall.
- 56:51It turns out that's all you needed.
- 56:53The whole time was a little, a little doozer power.
- 56:56She says a place for everything and everything in its place,
- 56:58which is a nice, nice little adage.
- 57:02And she spots docks blueprints for her bacteria and
- 57:08conveniently. There's a lot of illustrations
- 57:09so she can read the whole thing without knowing English.
- 57:12And she notes that this thing uses nature to heal nature and
- 57:18maybe she can do the same. What an inspiration.
- 57:22This also Harkens back to an earlier episode of back to the
- 57:25rock where doc overhears cotter pin coming through her.
- 57:31With speaker and and they kind of have the smaller.
- 57:34They don't really get to talk to each other.
- 57:36But they do kind of have like this unofficial communication
- 57:39and I kind of like the idea of Doc and cotter pin as this
- 57:43interesting unofficial team up. Yeah, they're both.
- 57:49So I think underestimated a little bit and they have
- 57:54confidence in themselves and sometimes that waivers.
- 57:58But yeah, they create a really nice parallel with one another
- 58:02definitely and like, they're both tinkerers, you know,
- 58:05they're both, they're both inventors, thinkers scientists.
- 58:08Yeah, yeah, yeah exactly. And he's making stuff happen.
- 58:12Exactly and hopefully maybe we'll see like in a real team up
- 58:16between the two of them in season two, fingers crossed back
- 58:22in trash mountain, boober is panicking and trying to climb
- 58:26out. There's a cool puppetry trick
- 58:27where we see him like actually scaling the side of this trash
- 58:30wall and then like you see his feet dangling because he's kind
- 58:33of on the ceiling and then he falls, he says he's looking
- 58:36around, he finds mokey's old Sketchbook, he finds a Kragle
- 58:39pillow. A doozer helmets, smeargle.
- 58:42All's, I also have to assume there's so much stuff on the
- 58:45walls and just everywhere in the scene that there must be like
- 58:49Easter eggs, you know, from previous episodes or just
- 58:52fraggle or that I couldn't spot just because it's just too much
- 58:56stuff, boober discovers with all this stuff that the trash Heap
- 59:00isn't just gorg trash, it's from everyone.
- 59:03The fraggles, the myrtles, the crackles, the Doozers, the trash
- 59:07Heap is made up of all of us, which is another episode title.
- 59:11Just the All of Us Part, not the The trash Heap is made up of
- 59:13part and trash Heap. It's true.
- 59:18The trash Heap is also specifically made up of the
- 59:20three of you so that all we're bringing it back around.
- 59:24See what we did there. Nice nice nice.
- 59:28It was fine. It's a very polite laugh for
- 59:31that. Okay, so he well back in
- 59:35Fraggle. Rock things are coming to a head
- 59:38red and mokey or fighting over a bucket, the Doozers are
- 59:40destroying their own. Auctions.
- 59:42Because the fraggles won't eat them.
- 59:45Yeah. And Wrecking Ball.
- 59:47Yeah, there's a cool like seem to like it looks like a buff.
- 59:51You're the big beach, I'm the beefy guy but then, my favorite
- 59:54part was Karen prowl is voicing and manipulating the doozer that
- 59:58rides the wrecking ball like, you know, I love music video and
- 1:00:03the best part was when they were shooting that we could just hear
- 1:00:05Karen's voice ringing out through this Giants.
- 1:00:07Soundstage and Karen was so consistent like dude.
- 1:00:12Her style in that. They're this characters riding a
- 1:00:15Wrecking Ball, but and they're being excited but they're doozer
- 1:00:18level of excited and the juicers are workaholic.
- 1:00:20So it's just been just yank the longest time of which can, which
- 1:00:33is so intensely consistent. It was so funny.
- 1:00:36So funny. We're all just sitting over in
- 1:00:37the corner of the studio, you know, in our waiting holding
- 1:00:40area waiting and just lose. Are losing it laughing.
- 1:00:44Just hey, yay, that's hysterical.
- 1:00:51Now we you mentioned earlier about the fraggles, you know,
- 1:00:53you guys creating the, you know, the these backstories and
- 1:00:56personalities for all these background characters and I
- 1:01:00first of all have to assume that you're doing the same for the
- 1:01:01Doozers. But this one in particular this
- 1:01:04this giant strongman doozer must there must be more to whoever
- 1:01:11they are like it's There was a character that you would created
- 1:01:13in your own head Cannon. I mean, the best but my favorite
- 1:01:19part about that Doozers to build him, they had to take two doozer
- 1:01:23bodies, cut them in half and like and like MacGyver them
- 1:01:27together. That's how the heat they built
- 1:01:30this Beefcake doozer. It's this is Frankenstein to
- 1:01:34were joking earlier, but like stealing arms off of a person,
- 1:01:37so that Joe and I'll soak it up for arms, but that's literally
- 1:01:41cake dessert. Yeah, which, I mean, I love
- 1:01:44anytime, I get to play characters that are Like
- 1:01:47masculine character is drag character.
- 1:01:49So, that's one of my favs just life goals, drag characters all
- 1:01:54the time. That's great.
- 1:01:59I also liked I know this wasn't your intention to give him this
- 1:02:01name but Beefcake doozer sounds pretty good, I like that.
- 1:02:06Yeah it's Cannon. Now we said, oh podcast.
- 1:02:12The other thing that's happening here is that pile gorg is making
- 1:02:16Throw away his plants, junior, junior down the well, and into
- 1:02:20the fraggle Pond. And basically, the sky is
- 1:02:23falling because this giant for them, this giant tree has just
- 1:02:27plummeted out of the sky and into the fraggle Pond.
- 1:02:30This is our one real shot of the gorgs in this episode.
- 1:02:33And unfortunately, we don't see ma gorg, but forget it.
- 1:02:36We're going to talk about it. Anyway, so Amy and Ingrid.
- 1:02:41The two of you teamed up to play ma gorg, which I I mean, we
- 1:02:47don't get a lot of her in this season at all, but what was it
- 1:02:50like? Kind of getting back into into
- 1:02:52that character that we hadn't seen since the original series
- 1:02:55again, you said it was like, it's another Legacy character.
- 1:02:58So, that's its own challenges. This is a very big open ended
- 1:03:01question to just talk about ma gorg.
- 1:03:03However, you'd like so, I will leave it at that and hand it off
- 1:03:05to you. I first of all, I love the
- 1:03:08Ingrid had so much experience being inside of of walk-arounds
- 1:03:13all together and how comfortable she was in using her body.
- 1:03:16So I loved her making choices like making big making big bold
- 1:03:27choices and I could just kind of like go with like why?
- 1:03:30When we would like we would talk a lot about like you know what
- 1:03:34she was able to do in the body. You know, because of course
- 1:03:37visibility and then also just, you know, to gorgs, they would
- 1:03:42always seem to put them in very small places.
- 1:03:44So like range of movement was not always ideal like what can
- 1:03:51you do? So we you know, just little
- 1:03:54things like that it to end to make her very you know look as
- 1:03:59feminine as possible because then her mind, right?
- 1:04:01She's like Queen in the castle and all of that and in greater
- 1:04:04is Marilla. We intend being able to kind of
- 1:04:08bring that, you know, bring that to life and and make her as
- 1:04:13girly as possible when she's basically wearing a house of
- 1:04:17made of like home. So but Ingrid you you talk about
- 1:04:25your oh, we had so much fun working together Amy and I we
- 1:04:28just gelled you know, and we trusted each other and we just
- 1:04:31like rolled with it together and we communicate.
- 1:04:34And you know, I had Amy's voice in a little your butt.
- 1:04:36My ear so that I could hear because sometimes the whirring
- 1:04:40of the mechanics inside the face of the public can be quite loud,
- 1:04:43you can't hear very well. So yeah, I had an ear but of a
- 1:04:46me in my ear that Amy could also hear me and oh yeah, it was.
- 1:04:51I love her so much. My I always wanted to do more
- 1:04:57prop comedy to. There are a few things we did
- 1:04:59get to do. But yeah, it's like with those
- 1:05:04giant characters, your Your yeah I think there's a be so much fun
- 1:05:10to get to play with her more or there's so much more we could do
- 1:05:13we did some rehearsals where we're doing a lot of full body
- 1:05:15movement together with her and Pie and and the relationship
- 1:05:19between her and pod that there's still you know there's still so
- 1:05:22much fire in their marriage even though Germany their marriage.
- 1:05:26They're very, you know they go away to to like love mountain or
- 1:05:30all these different places for like kissy time.
- 1:05:36That's always. So fun is the relationship with
- 1:05:39he heard. Papa and she, you know, she
- 1:05:40dotes on her son. He's just the most special
- 1:05:43amazing human in the absolute world and no one could ever
- 1:05:47changed her mind about that. You know.
- 1:05:50Yeah we had a lot of fun to playing with with any Hayward
- 1:05:54who is in the body of paw and yeah the two of them chasing
- 1:05:59each other around in circles and stuff we get to see them were.
- 1:06:03Yeah definitely yeah it was a little disappointing that like
- 1:06:06we got A good amount of junior gorg in the season but Papa and
- 1:06:08Mama were pretty much relegated to like sticking their head out
- 1:06:11the window in the castle and that's it.
- 1:06:14And Moz outfit. I know that the public was
- 1:06:18refurbed a bit but like, it's for the most part.
- 1:06:19It's still, the old ma gorg puppet from the Original Series,
- 1:06:23right? Yeah.
- 1:06:25It didn't smell like puppet for Four Seasons and then stored it
- 1:06:30for 30 years and it didn't smell.
- 1:06:33How did, what kind of Wizardry is involved in?
- 1:06:36I don't know, it's magic. That is better.
- 1:06:39It's fraggle magic and I assume that you used gourd Vision,
- 1:06:44which for people who don't know is when there's cameras in the
- 1:06:47eyes of the puppet, and you've got a monitor right in front of
- 1:06:50your eyes. So you could kind of see from
- 1:06:52her perspective. Is that right?
- 1:06:54Yeah, we had we had goggles. So, inside the head, it's very
- 1:06:57tight fitting, you know, it's a, it's a helmet.
- 1:07:00That is structurally holding up the the structure of the head.
- 1:07:03And then there's you pull down, these goggles, the smush room.
- 1:07:06Right against your face and his little tiny, the our screens and
- 1:07:09the goggles. And then there's, you know,
- 1:07:11there's a steel plate that's like an inch from my teeth and
- 1:07:20and yeah and then the mechanic there's a, yeah, there's a
- 1:07:22camera hidden in my house in my eyes forehead.
- 1:07:25So I do you can see but it's quite a limited amount.
- 1:07:29You can't see the floor. So you have to really train to
- 1:07:32know where your feet are going to walk on that.
- 1:07:36Uneven landscape and all the rocks and the tumble isn't
- 1:07:40things. The things that Ben did, we're
- 1:07:42amazing been durocher playing Junior gorg every day.
- 1:07:46I was I was just blown away. He was and he had such an
- 1:07:50amazing time doing it. He always had the biggest smile
- 1:07:52on his face because she yeah but also been had a different view,
- 1:07:57right? Can we talk about that for a
- 1:07:58second like that? Like you were able to see you
- 1:08:02were able to actually physically, see the floor and
- 1:08:05you were actually What you were seeing was a camera out of your
- 1:08:08forehead, right? Yeah.
- 1:08:10Ben's been was seeing what the camera saw.
- 1:08:14So he was getting a different feed.
- 1:08:16So, like talk about danger, right?
- 1:08:20Like and and with his physical as he was and I've decided I
- 1:08:25thought, man, although all three of you I thought were just like
- 1:08:28Brave Beyond Compare and these giant suits on this like uneven
- 1:08:32Terrain in these giant, like these giant feet and doing step,
- 1:08:36you know? Like walking down steps.
- 1:08:38It's like and to make it look natural.
- 1:08:40We were we were talking about how like, in the first couple of
- 1:08:44Seasons thing, they would just keep some of the takes where Moz
- 1:08:47skirt would get stuck in a door. Yeah, I'm going.
- 1:08:51Keep going. Yeah, schedule.
- 1:08:53Yeah. That's what would happen.
- 1:09:09But yeah, just like little things like that that you're,
- 1:09:13it's like, just playing with hooray, for the technology.
- 1:09:16But also, like there is that the challenge of having that
- 1:09:19technology and having to learn how to almost Puppeteer again
- 1:09:23because like, you know, having having the camera right in the
- 1:09:27middle of your forehead, that changes where your puppet EI
- 1:09:31Focus. Yes.
- 1:09:32Right. Because you're where you want to
- 1:09:34do it is, Not where it looks technically.
- 1:09:38Right. So we were just yeah.
- 1:09:40So we were just kind of like really communicate, Amy, my
- 1:09:43looking Amy. Am I looking a little more to
- 1:09:45the right? Yes, our little game would be
- 1:09:48like, yeah. Just like, look up your chin, a
- 1:09:50little bit more, just little things like that.
- 1:09:52So we could get the shot that we needed.
- 1:09:57Wow, how much did that helmet way with, with the camera and
- 1:10:01the monitor? All like, kind of resting on
- 1:10:03your poor neck? That is As much as Juniors head.
- 1:10:08All right, yeah more servos in it because he had more jicama
- 1:10:14movement, right? Yeah.
- 1:10:16You be able to set entirely entirely I believe.
- 1:10:18Yeah. But it's not too bad, it's
- 1:10:20counterweighted. So there's little bags of
- 1:10:22pennies at the back of, and into the back of my neck, we were
- 1:10:26really, really panties. I think it's pennies.
- 1:10:28Yeah. Or nickels nickels, nickels
- 1:10:31dimes dollars. Tony's in Canada.
- 1:10:34Here we have two knees and the loonies there.
- 1:10:36I dollars and two-dollar coins. The Luna has a loon on it.
- 1:10:40Yeah, but yeah. So the head is counterweighted
- 1:10:43said that it kind of balances because there's a lot of heavy
- 1:10:48heavier stuff in the front of the face at a balance that they
- 1:10:50put little bags of nickels in the back at that.
- 1:10:53Those were the original Nichols from the original series and
- 1:10:57they had cut them off at one point and they said you want
- 1:11:00these put back on my game, put those back on sleeper.
- 1:11:04Had those put on 30 Five years ago, they were put there for a
- 1:11:07reason. Trish is a brilliant, human
- 1:11:09being and an amazing performer. If she had them put their
- 1:11:12there's a reason they're there, you know.
- 1:11:14Yeah. Those are those nickels are
- 1:11:15worth probably six and a half cents a piece by now.
- 1:11:18Oh, yeah. So so yeah.
- 1:11:20That's right. Go put the Legacy Nichols.
- 1:11:22You probably auction them on the Internet.
- 1:11:24Get a lot of money. Oh, really bored Nichols.
- 1:11:25Yeah. It's amazing.
- 1:11:31I also like I mean it must be frustrating where it's like, you
- 1:11:34know, you need the counterweight but also like why is the
- 1:11:37solution to add more weight to get the solution?
- 1:11:40Be to take some weight off? Yeah and I like this, you know,
- 1:11:44long thin swan neck. I kept joking tell my friends
- 1:11:47that I was gonna come back from Fraggle Rock with his damn neck.
- 1:11:51It's gonna be like a triangle. You know, you're going to look
- 1:11:57like that that Beefcake doozer by the end.
- 1:12:00Yeah, that's my goal life goals. I want ya to be shredded, like,
- 1:12:03Beefcake teaser. Exactly back in the garbage cave
- 1:12:09with boober, he keeps Hearing in his head, the voice of the trash
- 1:12:14Heap saying, put it all together, put it all together.
- 1:12:17And so, you've literally put them all together, the book, The
- 1:12:19Pillow, the helmet, the seashells, just put them
- 1:12:21together and a giant Soup pot appears, and he says, I'm so I'm
- 1:12:27the soup guy down here. You is a, there's a theme Here
- 1:12:31for poor boober in his soup and then boober and The Cauldron.
- 1:12:35Magically teleport back about above ground in front of the
- 1:12:38trash Heap, where you would think this would be, what makes
- 1:12:41her feel better, but it does not.
- 1:12:43She is getting sicker and sicker by the moment.
- 1:12:47And she starts saying pea soup, pea, soup, pea, soup, and this
- 1:12:55might be the last thing she ever says, because she then
- 1:12:57disappears into the ground and she's compost now, and that's
- 1:13:02where the episode ends. And that's sad.
- 1:13:05Was there more? I'm sorry.
- 1:13:06What's next week? Yeah, right.
- 1:13:09How horrible would that be of the episode?
- 1:13:10Just end up with this shit here and I can't Too much boober
- 1:13:18takes The Cauldron back home and as the trash you told him, he
- 1:13:22starts making pea soup. He's got these little Ink Spot
- 1:13:26Sous chefs that have the little baker hats oven mitts in aprons
- 1:13:30and their adorable. I love a good Ink Spot
- 1:13:32appearance and just these little guys are just cute as cute as
- 1:13:36all heck, did any of you perform those things spots?
- 1:13:40Yeah. Yeah I can't recall which one
- 1:13:46like watching. I was like, crap was either
- 1:13:49Inkspot pushing the pot, calling the pot running at all runs
- 1:13:56together in the ends but I also have to assume that for a lot of
- 1:14:01you you know, when you're in a scene and someone says hey we're
- 1:14:06going to throw some ink spots in here.
- 1:14:07You're like oh man, give me that in a spot like Gomes.
- 1:14:10On real quick before anyone could say no, yeah, it's well
- 1:14:13bury him yet but they're delicious to to perform there.
- 1:14:18They are they just they fit. So nicely on your hand, they're
- 1:14:21like they're actually waited. They have they're like little
- 1:14:23bags of sand and then they're like, oh, they're so good.
- 1:14:27They're like the, you know, they just like they move so well that
- 1:14:30they're like really malleable like you could feel like you
- 1:14:33feel the history and those little things but they're like
- 1:14:35everywhere, they're just laying there little, there's little
- 1:14:38celebrities so and then they use them so much in fraggle as well.
- 1:14:44Like, I was so happy, you know, because I have a grantee really
- 1:14:49look. Great.
- 1:14:50Big to say, we don't really, I mean, is is as important as it
- 1:14:54was for the series to like bring back all these interesting
- 1:14:57background characters and you know like we were talking about,
- 1:15:02you know, but booney or or Bongo earlier or the what kind of
- 1:15:09thing with like the Third wizard character, things like that.
- 1:15:14Like it's very cool to see these characters that we've seen on
- 1:15:16the show earlier but the most important has got to be the Ink
- 1:15:21Spots like after the fraggles in the Doozers and the gorgs like
- 1:15:24the Ink Spots, just Define Fraggle Rock and the world of
- 1:15:28Fraggle Rock. So well that it would have.
- 1:15:31It would have felt like something is missing honestly if
- 1:15:33they weren't there. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:15:37Boobers soup is terrible. Pea soup was never his specialty
- 1:15:41whirring, it's his specialty. If they can make a soup out of
- 1:15:44that, then we'd be set. That's good line, good boober
- 1:15:46line, I like it the soup still needs something but Bongo is
- 1:15:52still in the cupboard. Having eaten all of the radishes
- 1:15:56Bongo was of no help here. Sorry Bongo.
- 1:15:59I don't know what you're doing in there, but you gotta go
- 1:16:04boober keeps hearing the trash heaps voice in his head.
- 1:16:06Put it Together. And so, he literally, once
- 1:16:09again, puts it all together, he mixes the Kragle soup in the
- 1:16:11Mughal suit, the fraggles soup, the juicer soup.
- 1:16:13And this is where we get our first big song of the episode.
- 1:16:17Put it all together. It's an original song and
- 1:16:20everyone's eating boober soup and they love it.
- 1:16:23Everyone loves this new soup. That's got way too many flavors
- 1:16:26in it. I'm gonna be honest, like,
- 1:16:28that's way too much, there's no way this actually works in your
- 1:16:31life, although I would love to see if someone out there wants
- 1:16:33to actually make all four of these soups and then mix them
- 1:16:35together to see if they taste good.
- 1:16:37Good. I would love to hear about it.
- 1:16:38Well, they have to mix it in the right proportion, right?
- 1:16:40Because the doozer pot was teeny weenie.
- 1:16:43Yes, right. Just a little bit of that except
- 1:16:45baby corn niblets. One thing I really like about
- 1:16:53this is that boobers belubius is glowing as he sings.
- 1:16:56We hit to not forget about the fact that he has a glowing
- 1:16:59belubius from the episode The Glow earlier in the season.
- 1:17:03It's important. You know that's still a part of
- 1:17:04him and he's in a glows when he's happy.
- 1:17:07And we see he's very happy here, making soup and making a
- 1:17:10difference. Because everyone is getting
- 1:17:12along once again, and everyone agrees that they are going to
- 1:17:17work together to solve their problems, which is a pretty good
- 1:17:20plan. Cotter pin, gets them all off to
- 1:17:23a good start because she discovered that they can use the
- 1:17:25vines to reabsorb the goo in the pond.
- 1:17:28So that's one less problem. They have to worry about good
- 1:17:30job, cotter pin. And this is the moment where
- 1:17:35boober realizes that the Ah, she wasn't saying pea soup.
- 1:17:39She was saying peace soup. There's a little cryptic.
- 1:17:43Their trash Heap could have been so it's a thinker, he's bringing
- 1:17:59her a bowl of soup. Also maybe it'll bring her back
- 1:18:01to life, but she's already back to Good Health.
- 1:18:04Turns out that she was sick because the fraggles the myrtles
- 1:18:08the crackles, the Doozers were not getting along and she is
- 1:18:12Made up of everything and everyone.
- 1:18:13So therefore when people don't get along the trash Heap,
- 1:18:16suffers this brings up a lot of interesting questions about what
- 1:18:22actually gives the trash Heap life.
- 1:18:24And I don't know, there's a lot of Mythology here that I think
- 1:18:28we're ready to unpack in this podcast episode.
- 1:18:31I'm assuming that you all have your own theories.
- 1:18:33You're welcome to share them or keep them to yourselves, but
- 1:18:38feel like smack the authority. Yeah, that's fair.
- 1:18:41Are about Karen prell knows. I bet she has oh oh oh yeah but
- 1:18:47all the lore she's got ya howl or queen where fraction comes
- 1:18:51from. She knows that's my favorite.
- 1:18:55Oh yeah she's got all the secrets.
- 1:18:59The as a fraggles are leaving the trash Heap, they spot the
- 1:19:02gorgs fountain. And now we know where all the
- 1:19:04water is going. It's going through this
- 1:19:06unnecessary found and that's Revelation is going to set us up
- 1:19:11for The final episode of the Season which is going to come up
- 1:19:14next week. And that's where we leave the
- 1:19:17main fraggles but we have one more Scene before we go.
- 1:19:21We are back at the Foo Fighters concert which is the thing that
- 1:19:25I didn't think we'd be talking about in Fraggle Rock show but
- 1:19:27here we are and the Foo Fighters are singing the classic Fraggle
- 1:19:32Rock song. Fraggle Rock Rock from the
- 1:19:35original series episode Wembley and the gorgs in the scene.
- 1:19:41We met is trying to get up on stage and sing with Dave Grohl
- 1:19:45and security keeps, you know, kicking them out which this must
- 1:19:50have been a blast for them to shoot like, look how much fun
- 1:19:52they're having? I know, I know.
- 1:19:54Hallie producer. Hallie was really jazzed about
- 1:19:58that in particular. I know that she had really,
- 1:20:01really fun time. I bet.
- 1:20:04Yeah, and it looks like Dave Grohl's having a good time and
- 1:20:06looks like traveling Matt's having a good time and I'm
- 1:20:09having a good time watching it. Everyone!
- 1:20:10It's a win-win for all of us. And I just love the idea that
- 1:20:14there's like this real popular band who's covering a fraggle
- 1:20:17song. And I know that years ago there
- 1:20:19was a series of Fraggle Rock albums with covers by modern
- 1:20:25artists but it really is surprising that more musicians.
- 1:20:30Haven't gone back to the fraggle catalog and covered these songs
- 1:20:34because they're so good and like they have loved having you just
- 1:20:37don't know about it. Oh, I would know about it.
- 1:20:42My brother used to organize raves in our hometown in the
- 1:20:45Okanagan and he organized a Fraggle, Rock theme drave,
- 1:20:49really? Yeah, when he was in his early
- 1:20:5120s and I would have been like 19 or something.
- 1:20:53Yeah, that sounds amazing. Being on the dance floor and at
- 1:21:00like, 3:00 a.m. all the music, just with beauty, then you here.
- 1:21:11Yeah. Everyone everyone does.
- 1:21:13The clap at the same time. Yeah yeah that's that's gotta be
- 1:21:20the best well that brings us to the end of this episode of
- 1:21:25Fraggle Rock back to the Rock. I am curious.
- 1:21:28If any of you have any more stories you want to share about
- 1:21:31anything from the series, any of your experiences, anything that
- 1:21:33would be a fun podcast story? Can I tell you?
- 1:21:37I always loved massive, doozer scenes with Where it was like an
- 1:21:43all-hands-on-deck. Like because first of all,
- 1:21:47they're so tiny, right? And you have to fit that like
- 1:21:50all the bodies underneath very specific sections of you know
- 1:21:56and and they're very delicate. I don't know if this has been
- 1:21:59spoken about on this show about how delicate those little so you
- 1:22:04know like we'd start to shoot and it would you know, we're all
- 1:22:07so excited to be dozers and then something like some little hat
- 1:22:10would fall off if you like Don't do like like, you know like just
- 1:22:14getting through, these are sea, just felt like such an epic win.
- 1:22:19You know what I mean? I loved being part of it because
- 1:22:22it was just like, everybody's like everybody's focused energy
- 1:22:26was on doing there one little doozer does like perfectly right
- 1:22:29just for like that one hot like Ms that it was going to appear
- 1:22:32on the screen. It just it it felt so I can't
- 1:22:36even explain it that. That's that felt like Fraggle
- 1:22:39Rock to me like everybody just like Absolute best for this
- 1:22:43thing that they loved. So very much, you know?
- 1:22:46And it was like all those bodies underneath there, just like
- 1:22:48being a little loser. It was like yeah, I loved it,
- 1:22:50loved it. Loved it.
- 1:22:53One of my favorite moments was a me and Ally under a rock.
- 1:22:58Like, I also love the side character.
- 1:23:00Just so when animating a weird little bugs, it's stuck on a
- 1:23:03wall, you know? Like they're my favorite moment.
- 1:23:08Acts have a video of this is a me and Ali Eisner ER, under a
- 1:23:13under a, you know, under Hill. And if you've got these two
- 1:23:17Legacy puppets, that are these weird little, like, tubes with
- 1:23:20little faces. That just poke at the top and
- 1:23:22back down there almost like a I don't know.
- 1:23:25Like a little Barnacle or like a little bit.
- 1:23:27A little tube worm. Yes.
- 1:23:29Yeah. I like the body little eyes or
- 1:23:31if I'm just had like two little like an antenna that you could
- 1:23:35like the antenna were like where there were supposed to be
- 1:23:38looking. But yeah that's only I think
- 1:23:41that comes up in the Season finale, if I'm not mistaken.
- 1:23:44Oh, spoiler alert. Okay.
- 1:23:47Get ready. I could be wrong.
- 1:23:49I'm going off us. Sorry, continue.
- 1:23:50Yes. Well, I just I just have this
- 1:23:53one. I'm sitting under the guard and
- 1:23:55all the puppet does is go up down, up down, up down.
- 1:23:57Is the simplest puppet. We're having so much fun, the TV
- 1:24:02just gorgeous - in unison and then an opposition like pistons
- 1:24:06and then side like on the New Testament, fasters some of the
- 1:24:11simplest puppets. Bring me to so much joy, and I
- 1:24:14love all those weird little background part faces that are
- 1:24:18just, you know, they're there for half a second and the camera
- 1:24:20pans past them. But for that half a second year
- 1:24:23that bug on Wall or your that little worm in that corner.
- 1:24:27Like you do that with my mom over Zoom.
- 1:24:31Be like okay we're watching the first episode.
- 1:24:33Okay, you see that one in the corner?
- 1:24:34That's me. And then those two crabs, those
- 1:24:38are me. Right.
- 1:24:39Right. Right.
- 1:24:41Yeah. The the little ones.
- 1:24:43What's I always call it? Fat bird?
- 1:24:46Yeah. The Squishy Bird like the
- 1:24:48Squishy Bird. It's got like two little
- 1:24:50feathers on the top of its head and sleepy eyes and in every
- 1:24:53scene. It's in.
- 1:24:54It's pulling focus and it's funny because you can just
- 1:24:56squish it down, really small and make it fall asleep into itself
- 1:25:01and kind of like bounce it. At one point, I like roll it
- 1:25:04into a crevice in a rock and it gets stuck like so good.
- 1:25:08That's normal there there. They've been those Legacy
- 1:25:11puppets that are left over from leftover carried over from the
- 1:25:15original series, are all like worked in.
- 1:25:19You know, they've, they've been well, loved David played with a
- 1:25:22lot, so they're just so Easy to, like, do fun stuff with such a
- 1:25:28trait. Yeah, my I have to like I loved
- 1:25:32performing any of the puppets, but my my like it's super, super
- 1:25:37epic moment. Was playing that freaking
- 1:25:40drummer puppet with Pete? Yeah.
- 1:25:43Yeah. Oh my God, because I had to
- 1:25:46climb into this really small narrow Tower.
- 1:25:49There were two prop guys behind me with like confetti and like
- 1:25:53air. Hours and then Pete who's like
- 1:25:56an actual drummer was like doing the hands.
- 1:25:58So all I had to do is just like be this, this Rockstar doozer,
- 1:26:02just keep like make it look like he was kind of keeping time, but
- 1:26:05Peter was like murdering it on those drums and it was just
- 1:26:09like, it looks so good. Like went with all that,
- 1:26:12confetti blew out and got it. I just hear out with every time
- 1:26:16it was three time. We did that take, I cheered and
- 1:26:19watching it at home. I was like, yeah.
- 1:26:21Oh yeah, such an awesome moment yet.
- 1:26:24About doing drag right because that's, you know, total
- 1:26:28male-male identifying fraggle. I guess you know with those
- 1:26:32glasses and Canada was so fun. That was that was yeah, that was
- 1:26:37good. My favorite musicians was you
- 1:26:40were playing the bass player in the band and Palace was Ellis
- 1:26:46with student. It was my artist in you doing
- 1:26:49your arms and so in order to get like fit everybody into that
- 1:26:52configuration Ellis, The solution was to shove his own
- 1:26:56head? Yes.
- 1:26:56Inside the body of the yes that he was like, yeah, he was like
- 1:27:01connected to my forearm. Yeah, yeah, great.
- 1:27:09He's playing along with the music and in time with the music
- 1:27:12and so we just keep going, you're pulling his head at his
- 1:27:14book store. So then back into this like
- 1:27:18fleecy free, you know, like full-body hat, it was Times you
- 1:27:24just gotta wear the puppet in the Hat juice but I put can I
- 1:27:29say I loved how it just like how good-natured and kind everybody
- 1:27:32was in the show. Do you know what I mean?
- 1:27:35I think that that really it really showed up on on film you
- 1:27:43know that like that we were all actually having a really good
- 1:27:46time shooting it and we liked hanging around each other and we
- 1:27:50liked creating this. This weird little World and we
- 1:27:54were encouraged to yeah, keep them alive back there.
- 1:27:58How whatever happened the first day is Ingrid, you doing
- 1:28:01exercises? Oh my God, the calisthenics up
- 1:28:06on the second level in the back with that like Ingrid.
- 1:28:11And I am so in love with you right now.
- 1:28:13It's like on just callous but that's what what her fraggle
- 1:28:17needed to do that day. That was when you're a stuck-up
- 1:28:22on the second level sometimes. There with a buddy.
- 1:28:24There's two puppets sometimes. Do they have a prop like a gourd
- 1:28:27or some sticks to chew on, but I was up there.
- 1:28:29I was not near anybody who I buy public a chat to.
- 1:28:32I didn't have any props to interact with and the director
- 1:28:35gave me specific feedback. He's like, hey yeah, purple guy
- 1:28:39up there. Can you please be more active
- 1:28:41and I acted on it. I'm just gonna, I'm just gonna
- 1:28:47exercise. Yeah, that's what that means.
- 1:28:49That's being active verb. All Choice, well choices.
- 1:28:54I've been trying as I'm not watching these episodes for like
- 1:28:56the third or fourth time trying to look a little bit more at
- 1:29:00what's going on in the background.
- 1:29:01Because I have to assume that that what you just described is
- 1:29:03happening all the time. And the only one that I really
- 1:29:06noticed so far and I mentioned this on an earlier episode, I
- 1:29:10think it was the episode where the where we meet the crackles
- 1:29:12rather than when the crackles come back to Fraggle Rock with
- 1:29:14everyone else and there's a Kragle like with a long straw
- 1:29:19drinking out of the fraggle. Pond?
- 1:29:21Why like other fraggles are in the pond?
- 1:29:24I don't like someone knew that decision and they just went with
- 1:29:27it thinking. No One's Gonna notice.
- 1:29:30Nobody want to see this? No, yes, head here.
- 1:29:33I am. If it's wrong, right?
- 1:29:35Yeah, yeah, yeah. I have a memory of chania with a
- 1:29:42straw, but I don't know. He's a brilliant.
- 1:29:45What did you say? Earlier series is worth another
- 1:29:47watch. Two puppeteers.
- 1:29:48One straw, what was that? Oh, yeah.
- 1:29:51Oh, two brains one straw to brains one straw.
- 1:29:54One Kragle, one pond. That's right.
- 1:29:56One extra long straw it all comes back around.
- 1:29:59Well the three of you have done just a fantastic job being
- 1:30:02different parts of the trash heaps and gorgs and Doozers and
- 1:30:07background characters and fraggles and crackles and
- 1:30:10myrtles and Etc. I think all three of you so much
- 1:30:14for bringing that bit of magic. So Fraggle Rock and doing such
- 1:30:17an amazing job on back to the Rock.
- 1:30:20And I'm really, really hoping that we get to see more of all
- 1:30:23of your work. On more Fraggle Rock in the
- 1:30:25future. So fingers crossed for that.
- 1:30:28So Amy Garcia, Ingrid Hansen, Kira Hall, thank you all so much
- 1:30:32for being here. This is real.
- 1:30:34Thank you, thank you. Yeah.
- 1:30:37Yes, and for everyone listening, that brings us to the end of
- 1:30:40another fraggle Talk podcast, but stay tuned as tough pigs
- 1:30:44own. Beth cook talks more about the
- 1:30:46themes of this episode in our dive deeper segment coming up
- 1:30:50right now. Welcome to dig deeper.
- 1:31:02This is Beth cook and I am joined once again by executive
- 1:31:05producer and president of television, at the Jim Henson
- 1:31:07company Hallie Stanford. I'm just stirring up a pot of
- 1:31:11pea soup. Ooh, yummy yummy honestly,
- 1:31:15sounds really good. I want to try and make it, you
- 1:31:18know, what I actually do to accept that I, if I recall, he
- 1:31:21gets like kind of bluish greenish.
- 1:31:23So I don't know. I don't know what's In there.
- 1:31:25Don't know what's in that soup. Love, I'll tell you what's in
- 1:31:28that suit, love and kindness teamwork.
- 1:31:31That's what I love. Anytime, we get Marjorie lore
- 1:31:35and find out more about who she is and how she works.
- 1:31:39Yeah, yeah. Well that was a, you know,
- 1:31:41that's a big world building moment.
- 1:31:42And again, one of the things that we got to do, you know, in
- 1:31:46this reboot of Fraggle, Rock is like, let's just like play with
- 1:31:49the lure of Marjorie and like, let's see what she's really made
- 1:31:52up of. And let's go down into that
- 1:31:54trash Heap. The whole like world.
- 1:31:57And so we thought that was really fun.
- 1:31:59And then when you get down there, you realize, oh, she's
- 1:32:02made up of everything. She's made up of doozer and
- 1:32:05silly creature, and fraggle, and all these different cultures
- 1:32:09that are like and have their discards are there.
- 1:32:13And that's what makes her up. And she is sick.
- 1:32:15She's sickening as Everybody's not connecting and thriving and
- 1:32:23so, she's not as well, and it's just an incredible metaphor,
- 1:32:27right? Like, absolutely.
- 1:32:28She's so great. She's so great, the trash Heap,
- 1:32:31she, she can just keep the if you wanted my going real deep
- 1:32:35dive, you can really deep dive into what she's all about why
- 1:32:38she was created originally for the show what she represents,
- 1:32:43but because you're trash. Are the things you don't want,
- 1:32:48but says a lot about you and has a lot of wisdom has a lot to say
- 1:32:55and also you know kind of fertilizes the earth as well.
- 1:32:59The good trash, not the bad rat compost landfill.
- 1:33:02Yeah yeah yeah I love that. She is what connects all of
- 1:33:07these cultures even factly if there.
- 1:33:12Conflicting with each other even if they don't know that each
- 1:33:15other exist. Yeah.
- 1:33:17And that if their relationships with each other are unhealthy,
- 1:33:22and she becomes unhealthy. That's right.
- 1:33:24And you know what, if you think about all the creatures on this
- 1:33:26planet that we don't know or we're not thinking about right
- 1:33:30now. There's so many of them like how
- 1:33:31can I how can I attach? I'll be thinking at this moment
- 1:33:34about that jellyfish over there, that dog over there that person
- 1:33:39in that state all at It's, it's hard to imagine that but yet the
- 1:33:44planet Earth is being affected by all of those things.
- 1:33:47All at once, and big impacts that we have do affect all of
- 1:33:52those different creatures up once and being able to
- 1:33:55communicate and connect and care.
- 1:33:57Right? And give back as what is going
- 1:34:01to create a thriving world. That's a really heavy deep
- 1:34:04message. But that's exactly what the
- 1:34:06message is of this episode. And it just so happens that We
- 1:34:12get to have a chef yes. Put it all together in a in a
- 1:34:19lovely soup. Really appreciated that he
- 1:34:22started out the episode wanting to do something more important
- 1:34:25and not just be the guy who's making soup.
- 1:34:28That's right. And he learns that that thing
- 1:34:31that he's doing is actually really important.
- 1:34:33It's really important. It's a very important message to
- 1:34:37kids and families too because it's saying everybody counts,
- 1:34:41every Discount, think about us, all of us the pandemic, suddenly
- 1:34:46the, the people that are actually going to the grocery
- 1:34:51store to check you out. And to stock their shelves,
- 1:34:54became the essential workers, right?
- 1:34:58Your perception of what people do and what their contribute to
- 1:35:01the world to completely shifted. How about teachers finally, the
- 1:35:06recognition that they deserve getting on Zoom with all their
- 1:35:11children and just Figuring it out, put it all together and I
- 1:35:14think that you know, you can see this is true for everyone that
- 1:35:18everyone matters that every little thing matters.
- 1:35:20And your contribution can't count and this case would be
- 1:35:25Uber it really counts because you really figures out how to
- 1:35:28bring them all together and takes the journey inside
- 1:35:32Marjorie to discover, what's really making her sick.
