Baseball lost a true legend this week with the passing of Al Holland, the fiery Phillies closer who helped lead them to the 1983 NL pennant and earned All-Star honors in 1984. A ten-year MLB veteran with 78 saves and a solid 2.98 ERA, Holland’s competitive spirit and iconic “Give me the ball” mantra defined his Aggie roots and left an indelible mark on the game — both on and off the field.
