- 0:54of this Bible study as well. So tonight we are going to start
- 1:01in Hebrews chapter 10, and we are in verse 19.
- 1:07Last week we touched briefly at the end verse 19/20/21 and 22.
- 1:12That long sentence there. But we're going to revisit that
- 1:16just briefly before we keep rolling.
- 1:20Without further ado, though, I'd ask Dan Blatz to lead us in a
- 1:23prayer. Father, we are here in the name
- 1:28of Jesus. We want people to know you
- 1:31better. We ourselves want to understand
- 1:33and know you better. So we ask that you open up the
- 1:35Word to us. Help us to gain a little more
- 1:37insight into who you are and what you've done.
- 1:40And help us especially to be able to expound upon your
- 1:43beautiful words, to encourage people, to motivate people, and
- 1:48most of all, to persuade people of the truth of the gospel.
- 1:51We pray that you would be present and active in our hearts
- 1:54and in our lives as we speak tonight.
- 1:56And we pray that you would bring forth fruit from this
- 1:59conversation and this Bible study.
- 2:01We ask in the name of Jesus. Amen.
- 2:03That's right. All righty.
- 2:09Chapter 10, Hebrews 10, verse 19.
- 2:11I'm going to read those 4 verses there.
- 2:15Having therefore, Brethren, boldness to enter into the
- 2:17holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which he
- 2:22hath consecrated for us through the veil, that is to say, his
- 2:25flesh. And having a high Priest over
- 2:28the House of God, let us draw dear with a true heart in full
- 2:32assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil
- 2:36conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
- 2:40And I just wanted to comment a little bit on verse 22 to get us
- 2:46started. Then I'll toss it over to you,
- 2:47Dan. But to draw near with a true
- 2:51heart for one. But secondly, the fact that he
- 2:55talks about having that full assurance of faith and, you
- 2:59know, being able to be convinced of the fact that God is true and
- 3:07good and holy and righteous, and that we are called sons and we
- 3:14are reconciled totally to Him and we are a new creature.
- 3:20Our old man has passed away along with all its sins and all
- 3:23its tricks that it uses. And the more that we can know
- 3:29that, the more that we see that full assurance of faith, that
- 3:34confidence that we can actually stand in front of a just the
- 3:38holy God, if we can understand who we actually are, who God
- 3:43actually calls us as believers. So it's an interesting and
- 3:48powerful position that we hold with God through his Son Jesus.
- 3:53And so anyway, Dan, go ahead. Yeah, this this verse to me
- 4:00speaks a lot about obviously our position before God with Christ
- 4:05through Christ, but it tells us a lot about prayer, right?
- 4:08Having therefore brethren boldness to enter into the
- 4:11holiest by the blood of Jesus. So we we picture ourselves
- 4:16entering into God's presence by the blood of Jesus, walking on
- 4:21the ground of the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, knowing
- 4:24that our way is paved by him. So not only does this give us
- 4:29confidence that we're saved, we have to have confidence that
- 4:33we're saved, but we should also be extremely confident that we
- 4:36are perfect in His sight or else we could never enter in with
- 4:39boldness that we can. We know that we are righteous in
- 4:42God's sight. And this is the kind of faith
- 4:44that very much honors God. And I think if I understand your
- 4:48guys's backgrounds correctly, this would fly in the face of
- 4:52all that our religious upbringing taught us is that you
- 4:55got to approach God very, very cautiously, very, you know,
- 5:00timidly, never with any kind of arrogance or obviously arrogance
- 5:04is a negative way of thinking about it.
- 5:06But he does say that we should enter boldly with confidence,
- 5:10knowing that there's a way consecrated for us, that through
- 5:15his, the veil that is his flesh, we have this new and living way
- 5:19consecrated for us that we can go straight to God.
- 5:23We can have our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience.
- 5:25We can have a true heart and full assurance of faith.
- 5:29You know, it's just in in the Mennonite low German language,
- 5:34it said, we always said become Los Hopen.
- 5:36We can only hope. We can't.
- 5:39We can't. No, we can't have a confidence.
- 5:42We can't actually know God like that.
- 5:44But this again flies in the face of all of that.
- 5:46We should be praying in a way where we're entering into God's
- 5:50presence with absolute certainty and confidence that the way is
- 5:54made open and that it's a living way that we can go and approach
- 5:58God at any time. Not because we're doing the
- 6:01right things, or we wearing the right clothes or going to the
- 6:04right church, but because the way has been made open through
- 6:07the Lord Jesus. And 1st on Colossians chapter
- 6:10121, it says, And you that were sometime alienated and enemies
- 6:16in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath He reconciled in
- 6:19the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and
- 6:24unblameable and unreprovable in his sight.
- 6:27So there's coming a day when Jesus is going to present you to
- 6:31the Father as holy, unblameable and unreprovable because of the
- 6:36death in his body, because of what he did in his body.
- 6:39But we can go to God in prayer as holy and unblameable and
- 6:43unreprovable all the time. Like I can enter in his presence
- 6:48right now. I can live in His presence
- 6:50knowing that there's nothing that separates me from him.
- 6:53I'm never at any moment kind of there's never a wedge between us
- 6:58because every sin has been dealt with.
- 7:00All all things that could have hindered me from coming to him
- 7:04have been done away. And now he says, come boldly,
- 7:07come confidently, come with full assurance.
- 7:10And there's just awful lot of good truth in these passages or
- 7:14this passage. Yeah, for sure.
- 7:17Amen. I was just thinking about when
- 7:21he said it's like he stuck that verse 21 in there and having in
- 7:26high priest over the House of God, like kind of in the midst
- 7:29of those two approaches that you do with confidence.
- 7:35And I was thinking about, it's like, I don't know, I was, I
- 7:40guess I'm kind of broadening out in picturing this whole thing,
- 7:43but it's kind of like you've got, as Dan just said, really
- 7:49well, you've got Christ paving the way, but you've also got him
- 7:53standing there at God's right hand pleading your case, right?
- 7:58So it's kind of like, like I said, I can't really improve on
- 8:02what he said about him paving the way, but I think that that
- 8:07he sticks that in there and having a high priest over the
- 8:09House of God, let us draw near with a true heart.
- 8:11It's it's kind of like what I picture is it's like Christ has
- 8:15paved the way. He says he's even opened it up
- 8:18or consecrated it through his flesh, through the veil that is
- 8:22his flesh and he's and he's like, they're waiting beside God
- 8:27for you as well. You know what I mean?
- 8:29Like I think that's really good. But yeah, that's what I see is I
- 8:32see a wave paper Christ and him waiting there, if you will, or
- 8:38standing there by the Father also pleading your case.
- 8:42And it's like he's he's ironing these things out, if you will,
- 8:47for you there, you know, like made the way and standing there
- 8:51ironing the things out for you, you know, asking God to look at
- 8:55his blood and not your lives anymore.
- 8:58And so yeah, that that's all I'll add to that was just does
- 9:03mention him being a high priest. Yep.
- 9:06That's right. Melvin.
- 9:08Yeah, so when I read these verses, it's it's so encouraging
- 9:14because so many times we come to God or we think we want to come
- 9:19to God like a kid coming to a candy store, right?
- 9:22We're just coming to God in prayer and we, you know, just
- 9:26want to ask and tell him what we want, right?
- 9:31And that God. But we if we fully understand
- 9:36these verses and if we can come to God boldly like you were
- 9:42saying through Christ that the way that Christ has made and
- 9:46knowing that Christ is there sitting on the right hand and
- 9:51the father there is like it said there in verse 21.
- 9:55We can come to God like that. Then it's just it's so how do
- 10:02you say it's like a coming to him in in thankfulness and just
- 10:09because the Bible says that that we are to come to him with
- 10:12thankfulness. And so many times we just barge
- 10:15in, so to speak, into, into God's presence when we're
- 10:20praying and, and just, I don't know if we can fully grasp this,
- 10:26what it's saying here. And that I am holy and I am
- 10:31righteous in Scott in the sight of God.
- 10:35And I can come to him like a son to a father that he actually
- 10:43cares about me. And, and, and I don't know that
- 10:46just that just changes everything.
- 10:49When I brought a hold of this, it was just so it's so I don't
- 10:54know, life changing right in your in, in how you come to God.
- 11:00So that's all I. That's good.
- 11:02That's good, Andrew. Yeah, it's some of the most
- 11:05humbling verses. He just got done telling us how
- 11:10he in in the few verses prior to this, how he has provided an
- 11:16everlasting atonement, not remember our sins anymore,
- 11:21taking away our sins once and for all and forever, gone
- 11:24through history forever. And the whole, the whole book
- 11:30has been talking about how that what Jesus is doing is so much
- 11:33better than the old way based on what he's all said so far.
- 11:38He says now this allows us to come to God boldly into the
- 11:43holiest of all by the blood of Jesus.
- 11:47We now have the freedom to get to know God one-on-one like we
- 11:52didn't have it before, by a new and living way which He had
- 11:56concentrated for us through the veil that is His flesh, us
- 12:00dying, going the grave with His flesh, our flesh and His flesh
- 12:04going down in there, planted together in the likeness of His
- 12:08death. It's how He has consecrated us
- 12:12and made US1 We were united with Him and He was contaminated with
- 12:19our sin and He was made-up of sin, went down in the grave,
- 12:24united together and left Egypt, left sin in the in the in the
- 12:32grave, just like Moses was. Says the children were baptized
- 12:37in the sea. The enemy stayed there.
- 12:40Moses came out on the other side victorious and with no enemy
- 12:44anymore following them. And he's, he's saying we're in
- 12:48the same way now by a new and living way.
- 12:52We went through the veil without the flesh.
- 12:54The flesh got destroyed and that thing where sin dwelt, the body
- 12:58of the sin needed abided and dwell in.
- 13:02That was done away through the flesh of Jesus Christ.
- 13:07And now that's why we now are allowed and have the opportunity
- 13:11to come to God by faith and go right in because we've been
- 13:16changed by the power of Christ and what He has done on the
- 13:19cross. And what stands out to me, it's
- 13:23verse 22. Let us draw near because of all
- 13:26this with a true heart. God always talked to the
- 13:30Pharisees about their untrue heart.
- 13:32You know, he made comments like you.
- 13:35You honor me with your lips, but your heart's far from me.
- 13:38The dishonesty of someone thinking that they're being
- 13:42righteous when their heart is evil.
- 13:43So it's an untrue heart. Now we can be honest, we can be
- 13:47upright and we can say, look, I am a Sinner, I am bad.
- 13:51But Jesus made it way. And we, there's no more hiding.
- 13:55There's no more dishonesty. There's no more this problem of
- 13:59trying to confess our sins to the priest.
- 14:01Honestly, are we hiding anything?
- 14:03You know, are we being honest? And that really stands out to
- 14:08me. I remember in the Amish, I would
- 14:10always feel guilty even after a confession, that I might have
- 14:13not been fully honest with my confession and the depth of the
- 14:17evil. I would kind of sugarcoat it
- 14:19just a little bit because just so embarrassing.
- 14:22All that's gone. I don't have to wonder if I've
- 14:25been completely honest with my sin.
- 14:27I just know that I'm I'm any sin makes me lost and if I'm in
- 14:34Christ, all sin is gone and I have freedom, true freedom.
- 14:36It's all gone and dealt with. And that's what gives me
- 14:39boldness and confidence and full assurance.
- 14:43There's no hesitation to come to God now.
- 14:46And the other thing is having our hearts sprinkled from an
- 14:50evil conscience. I've been studying that because
- 14:55of the that the doctrines that are creeping into our fellowship
- 15:00to a certain extent where it deals with this, this thing of
- 15:09people trying to bring the dietary laws and all that stuff
- 15:12back into the body of Christ. And God tells us that their
- 15:18conscience is seared and also defiled.
- 15:22And that really stood out to me this weekend when me and my wife
- 15:26were just talking about it. Isn't it scary that the thing
- 15:30that gauges good and evil, our conscience can be messed up by
- 15:37doctrines of devils like evil doctrines that are not of God to
- 15:40the point where things bother us that shouldn't you know, our
- 15:43conscience messed up. And so this verse is powerful.
- 15:48Having our hearts sprinkle from an evil conscience.
- 15:51You can have an evil conscience, defiled conscience, the seared
- 15:55conscience, and he's saying the word of Christ made us,
- 15:58delivered us, sprinkled us from an evil conscience and washed
- 16:02our bodies with pure water. That's just good stuff.
- 16:06Yeah, that's right, Dad. You want another turn or?
- 16:10Actually I don't if you don't mind just very briefly Ezekiel
- 16:1336 prophecies of a sprinkling a clean water of a new heart.
- 16:19I will put in you heart of flesh and that thing.
- 16:21So that's a good, good passage to look at.
- 16:23But first Corinthians chapter 6, verse 9 very common passage.
- 16:27He says, know ye not that the unrighteous just shall not
- 16:29inherit the Kingdom of God? You know, no, neither
- 16:31fornicators nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate nor
- 16:34abuser themselves of mankind. These kinds of people will not
- 16:37inherit the Kingdom of God, nor thieves, nor covetous drunkards
- 16:41and such were some of you. But ye are washed, but ye are
- 16:45sanctified. Ye are justified in the name of
- 16:47the Lord Jesus by the Spirit of our God.
- 16:49I sometimes hear people say that they feel like I just can't
- 16:52approach God. I can't pray to him.
- 16:55If you're living with a guilty conscience, that makes sense.
- 16:58Right. But if God has called you clean,
- 17:01don't call yourself unclean. You know Peter said, Jesus said
- 17:06that to Peter what God has cleansed call not thou common or
- 17:09unclean. And he was referring to the
- 17:10Gentiles. And if God has actually said
- 17:13this about you, you were a fornicator, you were an
- 17:16adulterer, you were effeminate, you were all those things.
- 17:18But you are washed, you are sanctified, you are justified.
- 17:22Then stop calling yourself dirty, unclean and filthy.
- 17:26Start calling yourself what God calls you.
- 17:28Cleansed, sanctified, justified. I can now approach boldly, not
- 17:32because I've been good, but because I've been washed.
- 17:36Yeah, that is so good. You know, I, I always find it
- 17:40amazing, something that's just really nifty.
- 17:43You know, it's one thing to have, you know, God calling us
- 17:47in like this, you know, telling us that we can draw near through
- 17:52Christ. But I mean, if you really think
- 17:54about how amazing that is because this is a God that knows
- 17:58every thought and every intent of our heart.
- 18:03And yet the sacrifice of his Son is so complete and so thorough
- 18:09that he can actually want us to draw dear to him, a true holy
- 18:16God. Isn't that amazing?
- 18:18Like, if you think about the disconnect that there is here
- 18:22that is fixed, that gulf that is actually spanned by the blood of
- 18:25Jesus, It's it's not a little crack that we can jump over.
- 18:30Yeah, it's amazing. It's an amazing gift that we
- 18:32have there. OK, 23 And that'll be another
- 18:39long sentence there. Let us hold fast the profession
- 18:43of our faith without wavering, for He is faithful that
- 18:47promised. And let us provoke, consider one
- 18:50another, to provoke unto love and to good works, not forsaking
- 18:54the assembly of ourselves together, as the matter matter
- 18:58of some is, but exhorting one another.
- 19:01And so much the more as you see the day approaching.
- 19:05I'll let you pick that apart as a whole or individually, as you
- 19:09please. They're here.
- 19:12Yeah, I would like to kind of separate 23 and say that with
- 19:17with all that you all said and Dan done a real good job of
- 19:20summing it up there. I think I think 23 is in there
- 19:24to say that being said. Keep.
- 19:28Believing that. Right, let us.
- 19:31Hold fast the profession of our faith.
- 19:33You know, it's like I, I don't know, I mean, maybe I shouldn't
- 19:36say this to give somebody the wrong impression, but I feel
- 19:42like I see, I see waves or up and downs of, of my confidence
- 19:52or I don't know, I maybe I should say faith.
- 19:55I don't know, but I I do see A and it's only on my part.
- 19:59It's not on God's part. I'm just saying there are times
- 20:02that I get busy or I get distracted and I feel less close
- 20:07and I think this verse is there to say.
- 20:10Don't waver. Right.
- 20:11It doesn't matter what's going on.
- 20:13It doesn't matter how you feel. Don't waver from this truth.
- 20:17In other words, I, I hear Dan say that and I'm like, yeah,
- 20:20man, that's right. That's good stuff.
- 20:22And he's saying hold that fast, right?
- 20:24It hold that fast regardless of your situation, regardless
- 20:27what's going on, believe that in spite of what is going on in
- 20:34your life. I mean, believe just continue to
- 20:37hold that fast without wavering, you know, or he is faithful
- 20:41because that's the point. He is faithful that promised,
- 20:44right? In other words, it's not based
- 20:47on your feelings, it's based on his promise, right?
- 20:51So all those things are true, not based on how you feel.
- 20:54And, and like I said, I just, and I'm really saying that to
- 20:57encourage the people that might not feel so great, right?
- 21:00I mean, there's been times I didn't feel so great.
- 21:03But he says it's not based on you, it's based on his promise
- 21:06and it is faithful. But and then we said, like I
- 21:12said, I hated the separate 2, but it's to me two totally
- 21:16different things. But then in 24 and 25, I know we
- 21:19said this, I think before we got on here, but I really think from
- 21:25these two verses, and I know they've been used as verses to
- 21:29try to keep your attendance up at churches, but I really don't
- 21:33care. I think it's good for us to meet
- 21:36as a body. I mean, if if he didn't mean
- 21:39what he said over there. And what is it in First
- 21:42Corinthians when he talks about if the whole body were an eye
- 21:46were with the hearing, if the whole body was a hand with the
- 21:49foot. If we are a body then, and there
- 21:54is many members and it takes many members to make up that
- 21:56body, then we ought to be gathering with the bodies of
- 22:02people somewhere like I, I think that that is good for us.
- 22:05And, and that's really, if you read the verse, he says, let us
- 22:08consider one another to provoke, to provoke and the love and the
- 22:12good works. In other words, that's the goal.
- 22:15You come together and you don't discourage one another.
- 22:18You don't try to get people to do evil, you try to encourage
- 22:22them to do the right thing. And he says not forsaking.
- 22:26In other words, we should come together to provoke the love and
- 22:28the good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves
- 22:31together as the manner of some is, but exhorting one another.
- 22:36And I think this is very key. The last part of that is and so
- 22:39much more as you see the day approaching, it's almost like
- 22:45the further we get from Christ rising from the dead, the more
- 22:49important it is. But do you agree with that
- 22:51right? As you see the day approaching,
- 22:53like so much the more the the further we get from his
- 22:57resurrection. So, and, and I think that I
- 23:01don't know, you could say maybe it's the evilness of the world
- 23:04or, or whatever, but but I do think it's important.
- 23:09I really think it's important for us to to be with one
- 23:11another. I agree with that.
- 23:13Melvin yeah, I. I think it's very important
- 23:17here. I think God is trying to really
- 23:21get get us across here that he doesn't want us to be wavering.
- 23:26He said, you know, let us hold fast to the professional of
- 23:30faith without wavering because James 1 is very familiar verse
- 23:37for all of us. But he says, but let him let him
- 23:40ask in faith nothing wavering for he that wavered is like he
- 23:43waved the sea driven with the wind and toss for let not that
- 23:48man think that he should receive anything of Lord.
- 23:52And so I think it's important very important here that to
- 23:58point out that you know he God doesn't want us wavering.
- 24:01He doesn't want us being tossed to and fro.
- 24:03He wants us to hold fast to the to Christ the rock, the
- 24:07cornerstone right and just what he explained us there and
- 24:12another thing that stood out to me is considering one another to
- 24:16provoke unto love and good works that word provoke another word
- 24:22is used for that is called incitement, which means to move
- 24:26to action. And So what the body of Christ,
- 24:31when we come together, the idea of that is assembling together,
- 24:37like you said, you know the body, but members coming
- 24:40together to move us. Into.
- 24:43Action because when you're by yourself, right?
- 24:47I mean, it's just it happens. I've been there where when you
- 24:51by yourself and alone, you just kind of get Tinley Palm.
- 24:56You just sit, you know, you just get relaxed, so to speak.
- 25:00You just kind of get LAX even with your own relationship with
- 25:04God, not just, you know, with other.
- 25:08So provoke unto love. And another thing I want to
- 25:11point out is he says there he first says love and then unto
- 25:15good works. So let us remember that we don't
- 25:20do works to be any closer to God, but at first it's faith in
- 25:25Christ and then comes the works. And yeah, then just not
- 25:28forsaking the assembly of ourselves together as the manner
- 25:32of some is. So obviously some of the
- 25:35believers here were not gathering together here when he
- 25:38wrote this letter. And he he says what is
- 25:43important, why it is important that we assemble together to
- 25:46exhorting one another. And so much the more as you see
- 25:50the day approaching. And so it's just important for
- 25:54the body price to get together and to lift each other up.
- 25:57And the Bible also says the reason the body gets together is
- 26:01to edify one another. And so that is very important.
- 26:05Who doesn't need edification, right?
- 26:08I mean, you know, deep down, we, we know we, we need that and we
- 26:12need one another. It's just that simple.
- 26:14Because someday we're going for us to just sit here and say,
- 26:19well, someday we're going to be in heaven together, right?
- 26:22And all everything's going to be grant and glory.
- 26:24Well, actually that's not, I mean, yes, God wants, that is
- 26:29God's plan and we look forward to that.
- 26:31But believe it or not, God has he planned for your life right
- 26:35now, where you live and what you're doing right now.
- 26:39And so that's a good. Preaching there, Andrew.
- 26:44Yes, Sir. I like that verse. 23 a lot too
- 26:48where it says not. Wavering.
- 26:51For he is faithful that promise, and.
- 26:55I think the most precious. Promise that I can think of
- 26:58right now is the fact that he promised that he dealt with our
- 27:02conscience. Like you all were saying.
- 27:06It's hard sometimes to not let our conscience still bother us.
- 27:12It's you know which. I'm not saying it shouldn't
- 27:14bother our conscience when we sin, it should.
- 27:17But the part that it's been taken care of shouldn't bother
- 27:20us because he says if we understand the gospel, we should
- 27:24have no more conscience of sin. That's.
- 27:27A promise. From God and I'm still wrestling
- 27:30with that one. That's tough.
- 27:32I mean that's a that's a promise now that's a big promise and I'm
- 27:38still I'm not there. I mean, it's just I mean that's
- 27:42a tough one And and he did it and he says, you know what, you
- 27:45need to come together and tell each other that.
- 27:47I mean, you know, old fast to the fact that the guy that
- 27:52promised those things is faithful and you know, it's
- 27:56good. And he says let us consider one
- 27:59another to broken the good works not.
- 28:02Forsaking. The assembly someone.
- 28:11That. Doesn't want to get together
- 28:12with believers. Must have had a really bad.
- 28:16Experience and I'd get it. I've had bad experiences too, to
- 28:21the point where you just don't want to be with Christians
- 28:24anymore. In your mind, you think.
- 28:27That but. To come together to.
- 28:30Find believers that are honest and that are humble and that
- 28:37come together to actually provoke on the good, on the law
- 28:41and good works. That's actually the goal.
- 28:44It's actually you, you. I'm really sorry for those that
- 28:49don't have the opportunity to come together.
- 28:54It's so good. We have a great time and there's
- 28:59many times I look at the at the crowd and.
- 29:06I ask. Myself, what is it that?
- 29:13People come together. And it's so good without all the
- 29:16structure and without all the things in place to make people
- 29:19act a certain way. And the main thing that I would
- 29:25point out and focus on is there's a lot of good marriages
- 29:28there. There's a lot of strong.
- 29:31Dads there, there's there's people that are strong at home,
- 29:35their wives are sweet, they're good marriages.
- 29:38They're, they're already have practice of nurturing and being
- 29:41a man. And that's what we're lacking in
- 29:44the church is men. Men that are able to be wrong or
- 29:49not have their way and take it with grace and realize that it
- 29:54wasn't their day to be right or to be in control and to be
- 29:58humble and to let someone else shine if that's the time and the
- 30:02place at the moment. You see people that have great
- 30:06marriages understand how to have grace, how to nurture, how to
- 30:11build people up, how to see the good in people instead of always
- 30:15trying to find something that they disagree with or a reason
- 30:18to fight, a reason to gossip, a reason to fuss and the reason to
- 30:23just show themselves that I'm going to be strong.
- 30:25And I am see, I'm so passionate about this and I just can't let
- 30:29it go. You know, they sit there and
- 30:31they fuss and and they, they're just, they think that somehow
- 30:35they're so virtuous by being so compassionate about their weird
- 30:38doctrine or something. And I guarantee they probably
- 30:42don't have a great marriage either.
- 30:43They don't know how to nurture. They don't know how to see
- 30:46things from other angles. So I say it comes down to humble
- 30:52yourself, have a good marriage, good strong family, be a man.
- 30:56No one to stand up and no one that'll be a leader with your
- 31:00woman and not just let her run you in the ground and not, you
- 31:03know, just be a man. You know, that's what we need is
- 31:07men with strong families. And when you come together where
- 31:10people are looking at each other in that way, where they build
- 31:12you up, where they provoking the love, where they are able to
- 31:15exhort. We have such weight wussy men
- 31:17anymore and women that we're so soft that if any reproach or
- 31:23provoking or exhortation comes along, we're all buried over it.
- 31:27And we're now we're gossiping about, oh, was that directed to
- 31:30me? Well, if you're guilty about it,
- 31:32then take it like I'm just fed up with it.
- 31:35I don't I don't have time for it.
- 31:37And sometimes we'll just need a good hurt.
- 31:39Many statements, you know. Yeah.
- 31:43Yeah, bad. Yeah.
- 31:45That's it's true. I went to a men's event the
- 31:48other day at a, at a local church and it was very good
- 31:51teaching, very good instruction for men.
- 31:54But along those lines, I, I've come to see that there's a huge
- 31:57shift in the, in the church in the last probably 6080 years.
- 32:01I from what I can gather from history, it's become very, very
- 32:05feminized, especially since Second World War when a lot of
- 32:07the men were out, women kind of took charge of these things.
- 32:11And the music for one, is super, super feminine.
- 32:14And we sang a song there with a group of men, like all burly,
- 32:18Husky looking men. And we're singing a song about
- 32:22Jesus being a lover of my soul. And I'm like.
- 32:27The the guy. The guy.
- 32:28Leading the music too, like it just did not fit right.
- 32:32Like it was just, I don't know, that's kind of besides the
- 32:35point. But if we want men to come
- 32:38together and and edify each other, provoke one another, we
- 32:42need to make sure that church is representing masculinity also,
- 32:46right? That there would be good, you
- 32:48know, songs that we can raise our voices to and doctrine that
- 32:52we sing to God and then teaching that actually provokes and
- 32:56encourages and isn't just fluff, right?
- 32:58So, but on verse 23, I just wanted to say one quick thing
- 33:02there because you guys all covered it quite well.
- 33:05Some people when they hear the term hold fast your profession
- 33:10of faith, they think that they need to have more confidence in
- 33:13their profession. Like as if if they had enough
- 33:18faith built up, they can release it on God and grab hold of him.
- 33:21You know, just got to have stronger faith, but he he says
- 33:24in parentheses there for he is faithful that promised.
- 33:28So our confidence is not in our faith.
- 33:30Our confidence is a response to God's faithfulness.
- 33:34And so because he's faithful, we should hold fast to our
- 33:38profession. We should not waver because he's
- 33:40faithful, not because your faith is something substantive or
- 33:43something, you know, great performance in some way.
- 33:46It's hit. You're trusting and you're
- 33:48confident in his faithfulness. And then in regards.
- 33:53To this last passage about consider one another to provoke
- 33:57into love and good works, I would just like to ask the
- 34:00question when you do gather with the Saints, do you gather to
- 34:05provoke other people or do you? Come.
- 34:08Just to get your ears kind of filled or get a little bit of
- 34:11spanking because you feel bad for your bad week that you had
- 34:14or you're just coming to get something from it.
- 34:17Or you come in there to ask a brother to say, hey, man, how
- 34:19you doing? Or to share something at the end
- 34:21of a service or to, you know, reach into somebody's life to
- 34:25say, hey, you know, I've been visiting the elderly on such and
- 34:28such a day. I'd love to have you come with
- 34:29me or we're going to take care of our neighbors property and
- 34:33you're provoking someone to love and then to good works and to
- 34:36kind of them on. I can definitely sense the
- 34:40difference in myself if I go there because we've made a
- 34:43transition in the last couple years from where I was leading
- 34:47and I felt like I was very involved with provoking and, and
- 34:50encouraging people. And I always, it didn't matter
- 34:54to me who was preaching on any given day.
- 34:56It didn't matter. I'm going there to provoke
- 34:58somebody. And even if I know this sermon's
- 35:00going to be subpar or I'm not going to really like it as much,
- 35:03it's totally fine because I'm there to get involved, to hear
- 35:07what he has said, to comment on it, and then to provoke
- 35:10somebody. But if I go there and I'm just
- 35:13hearing a message, then sometimes when I know a certain
- 35:16preacher is preaching, it's like, I just assume not go.
- 35:20Why? Because my church attendance is
- 35:22just about me getting something from the service.
- 35:25And that's our services are kind of set up to be that way where
- 35:29it's just one man, he has the gift and he provokes everybody.
- 35:33It's like we as a church are trying to prop up our one
- 35:37soldier when it should be. You know, the ministers and the
- 35:41gifts that we have in the church are there to prop up the 200
- 35:44soldiers, right? Like it's we're.
- 35:47Trying to. He says in in Ephesians chapter
- 35:504 there that the gifts were given to provide for the service
- 35:55and for the ministry of the Saints so that we can minister
- 35:59to one another and then have that love and that good works
- 36:02overflow to the community around us.
- 36:05And so you can really go to church with the wrong mindset.
- 36:08But there's this old illustration that I've heard so
- 36:10many times. A brother stopped coming to
- 36:12church for a while. He had wasn't showing up, wasn't
- 36:15showing up. And finally the preacher showed
- 36:17up to his house and he's sitting there by the wood stove and he,
- 36:20he takes one of the coals or the embers and pulls it away from
- 36:23the rest of them. You've all heard this before.
- 36:25And it slowly cools off and it turns black and it's not red
- 36:28anymore. And then the guy, he doesn't say
- 36:31a word. He just kind of sits there.
- 36:32And then he pushes that ember, that coal back into the fire and
- 36:35it brights, brightens right up and it turns fiery red because
- 36:39it, it can't produce flame on its own.
- 36:42It can't keep heating the same way on its own, right?
- 36:45So we should be gathering daily from house to house and
- 36:49gathering in homes and we should be provoking.
- 36:51It's not all about going to a church building.
- 36:54It's about gathering together with Saints and then provoking
- 36:57each other constantly. So much the more as we see
- 36:59today, approaching this kind of thing, getting online, doing
- 37:02text messages, sending something in a WhatsApp group where you
- 37:05know people are listening and that kind of thing is something
- 37:08we should be doing constantly. One another ring, right?
- 37:12And I would say that. People don't sometimes.
- 37:16You don't realize. You don't realize you have
- 37:19contributed to the whole when you have, right?
- 37:23I mean, there's people that I, that I know that.
- 37:26They're not. They're just being.
- 37:27Their self, but they're building me up in faith and they're not
- 37:31even necessarily trying to. So I'll just say that kind of
- 37:36all along Dan's line is we look at it like the only one that's
- 37:39doing any provoking is the preacher, But people are
- 37:43provoking and and you whoever you might be listening, you're
- 37:47probably provoking people and don't realize it.
- 37:50You know, like and like you said.
- 37:52So I want to say one thing. Too I I think I know this is not
- 37:55possible like in church setting maybe.
- 37:59But I appreciate what you said, Dan, about we should be
- 38:02provoking one another every day or, or, or every other whenever
- 38:06we can. Because the simple fact is, is
- 38:09when you get together and like eat together, like eat food
- 38:13together and whether it's at your house, at a friend's house
- 38:16or, or a gathering or you're just gathering together for
- 38:20whatever may be. But when that happens, then
- 38:25there is provoking that happens with one another, like we move
- 38:29each other into action. So I appreciate what you said
- 38:32about not just at church necessarily, because I think we
- 38:35get in our minds that, you know, we, we just go to church to do
- 38:39this. And that's not what the Bible
- 38:41says or what it portrays. So.
- 38:44There's a popular sentiment in fairly nominal Christians where
- 38:48they say I'm all good with Jesus, I like him, I'm just not
- 38:50a big fan of his church. Church is full of hypocrites.
- 38:53Well, you know if the moment you stop going there, there's one
- 38:57less hypocrite, right? So.
- 39:00But what? But what if you, what if you
- 39:03could? What if you could get along with
- 39:05those people, right? I mean, why does everything,
- 39:08everyone have to be perfect for you to get along with them?
- 39:11You're not perfect yourself, right?
- 39:13I mean exactly. Well.
- 39:15And I have a. Good marriage either.
- 39:18Yeah. And I would say that just.
- 39:20Like we talked about earlier that holding fast our
- 39:23profession. I would say that.
- 39:26It's very likely well, I'll just give it a a personal experience
- 39:30a lot of times if. Me and my wife are.
- 39:34Hardly ever. Down about.
- 39:37Life at the same time, you know what I mean?
- 39:40If I'm having a down spell, she'll be on a good note and
- 39:44vice versa. And I would say that that's the
- 39:45way it is with the church is if you if you are down, the more
- 39:50reason to be there because probably somebody else is not
- 39:53down and they're going to help build you up.
- 39:56You know, like that is kind of the point of it I think, right?
- 40:00Yeah, and I. Appreciate.
- 40:02Too what Dan was, you mentioned it a little bit about not just
- 40:05being a consumer. You know, a lot of us, we get
- 40:09the notion we want to go to church and we want to sit there
- 40:11and be edified, whatever that means, you know, and where I
- 40:15think that we should be contributors.
- 40:17And if you look at the text here, it actually it actually
- 40:20kind of talks about that in verse 24, what stood out to me,
- 40:23and it's interesting how everybody has their own thing
- 40:26that that they kind of see when they read, but it says, let us
- 40:30consider one another. And when you consider one
- 40:35another, that is something that you do.
- 40:37That's right. And and.
- 40:39If you look at that definition of the dictionary, it's just
- 40:41interesting. It is to fix the mind on to
- 40:44study or to meditate, you know, and if you actually are
- 40:50concerned or you have friends that you should be concerned
- 40:53about, you're going to do that to some degree.
- 40:57I mean, you don't, I mean, you're going to, you're going to
- 40:59worry about them. If you see something wrong,
- 41:01you're going to you're going to actually consider that.
- 41:04And so, yeah, it's, it's important that we don't just sit
- 41:08there and warm the bench and have our ears tickled.
- 41:11Oh, it should be like. When we have a work day to build
- 41:14on a structure, not everybody is doing the same thing, but
- 41:20they're all there to help build this structure.
- 41:23That's the way we should come together with church.
- 41:25We're all there to do whatever part we're good at doing and do
- 41:29it with joy. So I'm going to read.
- 41:33Verse 20. 6 through 30, because I think it all goes together.
- 41:36Actually, it's part of the same thing, but I want you to mostly
- 41:40focus on verse 26 and 7. For if we sin.
- 41:44Willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the
- 41:46truth. There remaineth no more
- 41:48sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for a
- 41:52four of judgment and firing indignation.
- 41:56Which shall devour the. Adversaries, actually, let's
- 42:00just stop right there. There is a period there.
- 42:01I'll just stop right there. So go ahead, Air with 26.
- 42:08Well. I'll just start it by saying
- 42:11this. This is what I my love hate
- 42:15relationship with a Bible study like this is we we pull out so
- 42:19many good details that we kind of lose the picture.
- 42:22And I think you have to see the picture for this verse to make
- 42:25any sense, right? OK.
- 42:27I mean, we've been in the picture started.
- 42:29Well, I guess it started in the beginning of the book, but.
- 42:32Certainly. Started.
- 42:34In chapters 8-9 and ten, he has been building up this this
- 42:38reality of Christ going and atoning for our sins and he has
- 42:44played that out to the point that we saw clearly that he
- 42:47actually went into heaven itself offered for our sins.
- 42:50His own blood cleansed us completely cleansed our
- 42:54conscience told us there in verse 18 and chapter 10 that
- 42:58we're remission of these is there is no more offering for
- 43:01sin and then told us based on that truth we could have
- 43:05boldness and we could draw near to God.
- 43:07We ought to be coming near to God, but we should also be
- 43:11gathering together and encouraging one another.
- 43:14And then he turns around and says if we sin willfully after
- 43:17that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there
- 43:19remaineth no more sacrifice for sin.
- 43:21In other words, as we said a long time ago, this whole book
- 43:25is encouraging them to keep the faith right?
- 43:28They are to keep their confidence in Christ, not go
- 43:31back into the old law. And I think that that is what he
- 43:34is. I think that's the, the willful
- 43:37sin here is him encouraging them not to go back and turn away
- 43:43from this belief they have in Christ to something else because
- 43:49there's no more sacrifice for sin, right?
- 43:51I mean that he's, that's why I said you have to see the hole
- 43:54here. He's been establishing 1
- 43:56sacrifice for sin forever. That's it.
- 43:58If you turn away from, if you willfully turn away from this,
- 44:02there's no, there's nothing you're not going to find
- 44:04anywhere else. There's no other sacrifice for
- 44:06sin. So I guess I would end it by
- 44:09saying I don't believe that he's saying you a person, which is
- 44:15the way I always heard it taught.
- 44:16A person can sin as long as they accidentally sinned and not
- 44:22knowing that they were sinning when they did it right.
- 44:25I agree. Agree with that.
- 44:27Yeah, yeah, very good, Melvin. Yeah, I mean.
- 44:31So he says, therefore, if we sin willfully after we have received
- 44:36the knowledge of the truth, and if you go down and read the
- 44:41other verses later, you didn't read them yet, but he says
- 44:45about, you know how, how? What God is going to?
- 44:49Do if if you reject the gospel, if you reject it and so that's
- 44:55all he's simply saying here. He got done like you said,
- 45:00Aaron, he got Scott done explaining to us a new way that
- 45:04the high priest, the Ottoman high priest Christ and and he
- 45:08just and a new way and and no more the law this is.
- 45:12Now. A new way and it's in Christ and
- 45:16and we just got done going through how, how Christ's blood
- 45:20allows us to come boldly unto unto the throne of grace.
- 45:24And so now he's saying that if you, if you have received this
- 45:30truth and you just act like it's nothing like you just tread it,
- 45:36it says in 2 verses down. If you just tread over that,
- 45:40that gospel, over that truth, then there remains no more
- 45:44sacrifice for sin because Christ is not going to die again there.
- 45:47There's not another sacrifice. Christ has died, and it's over
- 45:52once and done. And so it's up to you and me to
- 45:58what we're going to do with this truth.
- 46:01If I'm going to. Believe it or not.
- 46:04Amen. That's right.
- 46:05Andrew, Amen. Yeah, I.
- 46:07Just agree with that. But it's not saying that's a
- 46:11farce, that people say that, oh, I did that unwillingly or that
- 46:20was willful or this one, this sin was not willful.
- 46:26There is no such thing. There's no place in the Bible
- 46:31where God said, hey, did you murder that person?
- 46:34Yeah, but not willfully, right? You know.
- 46:39It's. Just it's not a.
- 46:40Thing So what he's saying is if you willfully, like you guys
- 46:44already said, reject the gospel, count it as nothing.
- 46:48That's what he's going at you count the gospel as nothing.
- 46:52You trot it on your foot like it's gone it's done like you
- 46:55don't want anything to do with it and it's not even I would say
- 46:58you would have to probably do it over a long period of time.
- 47:00Like I don't even think it is when you're upset your wife
- 47:03dies, your children get murdered, raped, whatever, and
- 47:06you're just really angry and you just like you know what if Jesus
- 47:10loves me and he gave save himself for me and I have to
- 47:13victory in him, Why did this happen to me?
- 47:15Right now? I don't feel anything for Christ
- 47:17or I don't feel anything for the gospel.
- 47:19I don't think you'd even lose it then.
- 47:20I think you have to willfully walk in the in a lifestyle of.
- 47:27Jesus a debt. To me, I don't want anything to
- 47:28do with it. That's total.
- 47:30Rejection. Dan.
- 47:36Yeah, I don't think I need to. Add a whole lot to that, but
- 47:39all, all sin is willful. In fact, sin resides in the
- 47:43intention. That's where sin comes from.
- 47:45It's what? What were you trying to do?
- 47:47What were you thinking? Right?
- 47:49Like you did this thing, but it came from somewhere.
- 47:52It came from your intent. And in Romans chapter 5, verse
- 47:5613, it actually says that until the law, sin was in the world.
- 48:01But sin is not imputed where there is no law.
- 48:03So if if someone does not know better, if someone is mentally
- 48:08challenged or if somebody is too young to under understand or
- 48:12comprehend, then sin is not imputed to them.
- 48:15There's no law yet. There's no understanding, no
- 48:17comprehension yet. So he's basically saying that
- 48:20once you know and then you do sin, do something you ought not
- 48:24to do, then it's it's imputed to you as sin because you intended
- 48:29it. And so all sin is willful sin.
- 48:32And so that's why he's he like Melvin already said, he expounds
- 48:37on and expands what this willful sin is in verse 29.
- 48:41And it's trotting under foot the blood of the Son of God that
- 48:44that counting it as an unholy thing and doing despite to the
- 48:48spirit of grace. That is the sin that he's
- 48:51talking about. If you do that sin willfully,
- 48:54then there is no mercy for you. There is no hope for you.
- 48:57Like you're you've you've out, you've out sinned the one thing
- 49:02that can forgive you, right. Yeah.
- 49:04And I think that's. Relevant again to kind of look
- 49:07at the whole picture. These people.
- 49:11Have a choice to stick with believing in Christ or they're
- 49:16being pressured to turn back to the law, right.
- 49:18I mean, we we've said that over and over again.
- 49:19That's what the book is that they are they are they are in a
- 49:22straight betwixt too. Stick them with Christ or turn
- 49:26them back. And he's saying, if you make the
- 49:28choice, if you willfully decide you're going to give up this and
- 49:33go backwards, then then like you, you all said, he's going to
- 49:38go on to say it's like you just trodden Christ under foot.
- 49:40You know you made that choice to do that.
- 49:44Yeah, yeah. I mean if if.
- 49:47You don't read it that way, which the context bears that
- 49:50out. The the like Aaron said, the
- 49:52entire book bears this idea out if you think that it is a sin
- 49:58that you did. And then you have to.
- 50:02Determine there is a huge weight of responsibility on you to make
- 50:08sure that you know, like how do you determine whether it was
- 50:12will for kids? Like I agree that every single
- 50:14city is willful. You know, you spend a little
- 50:16more thought on some of them that you do on others, I will
- 50:19admit, but they're all willful. You could just not do them, I
- 50:23guess or whatever. Maybe I could clarify a.
- 50:25Little bit about that because in Romans Paul does say the things
- 50:29that I would not those things I did like he did what he didn't
- 50:33want to do before. He's a believer before Jesus
- 50:36Christ delivered him. So there is a sense that's I
- 50:40think what people are saying. I did not want to do it, but I
- 50:43just slipped up and did it anyway.
- 50:45But I have I have an embarrassing testimony, really
- 50:49embarrassing. The first time I was I was
- 50:53following counsel to be baptized and in the meantime I found out
- 50:58that masturbation is sent. And I told the.
- 51:03Ministers. And they were like, oh, we
- 51:05can't, you know, we can't baptize you.
- 51:08And the first thing that I asked was like, was it willful?
- 51:12And I was. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have
- 51:16done. It if I didn't want to, you
- 51:17know. So.
- 51:24So that really messed me up. Showed their ignorance is.
- 51:28What that did and. And I was like, you know, and
- 51:33then they found out, so they locked me a lot and they wanted
- 51:38to not throw, you know. Upset the wagon.
- 51:42So they realized that I didn't know that that was sin.
- 51:47Is that based on that we're back?
- 51:53But you know, that's. When I found out about willful
- 51:56and that's how they used it and I was like, yeah, I guess I want
- 52:00it. I mean, I, I felt like then it
- 52:02would be lying to say no, I didn't want to that's.
- 52:07That's the funniest. Story I've heard in a while
- 52:09that's actually not funny because, I mean, that is exactly
- 52:12how this willful thing gets used, though, yeah.
- 52:16Anyway, all right, I'm going to. Read the rest of kind of, I
- 52:18mean, you already commented on 29 a little bit, but I'm just
- 52:21going to read the next sentence here and we'll finish with that.
- 52:23It's going to be kind of short. He that despised Moses Law died
- 52:27without mercy, under two or three witnesses.
- 52:32Of how much sore? Punishment.
- 52:33Suppose ye shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under
- 52:37foot the Son of God, and have counted the blood of the
- 52:40covenant, wherewith He was sanctified, and on the holy
- 52:44thing, and hath done despite unto the spirit of grace?
- 52:49They will stop right there. But.
- 52:53This is I. Mean this is a really good verse
- 52:56when you're talking about losing your salvation.
- 52:59Because I mean. He hath counted, He has tried
- 53:02not to foot the, and hath counted the blood wherewith He
- 53:05was sanctified, you know. So there is a point where, and I
- 53:10know losing your salvation is a bad term because because of the
- 53:14connotation. But anyway, go ahead and comment
- 53:16on that in addition or like in in part with 26 and seven.
- 53:20Yeah, well, I'll just kind. Of repeat what I already said,
- 53:23but that's why I was saying the whole context of it because.
- 53:27When you look at this. Verse going with 26 and on and
- 53:32on back it is like and I'm not saying that the Hebrews people
- 53:37he wrote this to her own people capable capable of it, but I'm
- 53:41just making the point that he is saying you all have picked
- 53:45Christ right you you put your faith in Christ and now you're
- 53:50being faced with the choice the the willful choice to turn away
- 53:54from him and he's saying it's like walking on him.
- 53:58You know, it's like, it's like just trotting it under foot and
- 54:02acting like it's the I was thinking that I just saw that
- 54:06verse. You know, when he says the salt
- 54:07loses its savour, it's good for nothing to be trodden under
- 54:10foot. You know, it's like, it's like
- 54:12you counted it like salt that had no flavor anymore, right?
- 54:15You just walked on it when you turned around and left it.
- 54:19And that that was, I mean, that's all I'm going to say
- 54:21about it. But I do think it, like I said,
- 54:24I'm not saying a specific only could happen to these people,
- 54:27but it is a specific situation in which someone has believed it
- 54:31and they're debating on forsaking it is.
- 54:36The way I'll see. That.
- 54:38That's right. Melvin.
- 54:40Well. When you when you read it there
- 54:42he says suppose he how should he be thought worthy.
- 54:46We have trotted under the foot of Son of God.
- 54:48I've counted the blood covenant whereas he was sanctified, an
- 54:52unholy thing and so for someone to.
- 54:58Say that the blood. Of Christ is an unholy thing.
- 55:02Once they were sanctified by the blood of Christ is not something
- 55:07you just move in and out of on a regular basis.
- 55:11Like you don't just count it unholy and then the next day
- 55:15hold it like, like I hear so many people say, well, I've,
- 55:18I've been, you know, I was, I'm a Sinner and I'm, I'm born a
- 55:21Sinner and I'm, you know, and I need God's grace every day,
- 55:25which we do. We need God's grace every day,
- 55:28but we. Don't.
- 55:29Move in and out of of salvation. And so because he says here that
- 55:34the person that does that, when they get to that point, which is
- 55:40a long process, obviously, but if they get to that point,
- 55:44they're going to be judged the same as an unbeliever looking
- 55:48for the judgment and theory in indignation who should devour
- 55:52the adversaries. And then he makes a point there,
- 55:54he says because in the law, he that despised Moses law died
- 55:58without mercy under two or three witnesses.
- 56:01So obviously I didn't look that up in the Old Testament, I
- 56:04guess, but obviously in the law, if someone counted the law as an
- 56:10unholy thing, they were, they were killed, obviously.
- 56:16So that's all I have to say about that.
- 56:20Andrew yeah, I wanted to highlight the.
- 56:22Fact that there's much sore punishment for those that knew
- 56:26Christ so there's also a verse in the Bible that is better to
- 56:29not know and die like that than to know and reject it so but the
- 56:37other thing I wanted to talk about is how that.
- 56:41Paul said that if. You keep one part of the law,
- 56:43you're fallen from grace. One.
- 56:47One part. You're guilty of the whole
- 56:48thing. So would it be going too far to
- 56:52say that you're counting the blood of Christ, an unholy
- 56:55thing, if you go anywhere else to hopefully contribute to some
- 57:00sort of sanctification and completion of your sin problem
- 57:04or your soul to bring a little bit of reconciliation or help
- 57:09with the reconciliation? You're not counting the blood
- 57:12and the sacrifice of creatures as Christ is sufficient as full.
- 57:16You're counting it a little bit partially unworthy in certain
- 57:19areas of your life. So you need to go somewhere else
- 57:22to find completion. And I think that gets very
- 57:24dangerous when we do that. You're counting the blood, the
- 57:27finished work, unworthy. Hey there, that's good.
- 57:30Andrew Dan. Yeah, under Moses.
- 57:35'S law. We saw a man collecting sticks
- 57:38on a Sabbath day to make a fire, and Moses commanded that he be
- 57:42put to death by the camp. A bunch of men gathered around,
- 57:45grabbed big rocks and bashed his head in.
- 57:48Murderers. Thieves, adulterers, rebellious
- 57:52people, children, rebellious teenagers, and so on.
- 57:55All of that punishable by stoning, by death.
- 57:58And he says, Of how much soror punishment suppose ye, shall he
- 58:02be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the blood the
- 58:05Son of God, and hath counted the blood an unholy thing?
- 58:09And all you need to do to count the blood of the cry of Christ
- 58:13an unholy thing, is to go to some other means of
- 58:17sanctification. Go and approach God by some
- 58:21other methods. Go try to get to God by your
- 58:25good works or by offering some other sacrifice.
- 58:27The Hebrews were tempted to go back to the temple and it was
- 58:32still standing in their day and they were tempted.
- 58:35They were thinking maybe it isn't worth waiting for Christ.
- 58:38Maybe we should go back to the old way.
- 58:40He says by doing that you would be counting the blood of the Son
- 58:44of God as an unholy thing and you would be doing despite under
- 58:48the spirit of grace, you have been fully sanctified, fully set
- 58:53free from all your sins. Nothing's counted against you.
- 58:56And yet if you go back to some other method of approaching God,
- 59:01you're now counting Christ's blood as unholy.
- 59:04And it's a, it's a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the
- 59:07living God. It ought not to be something
- 59:09that we toy with. This again is not talking about
- 59:131 willful disobedient sin. This is not talking about
- 59:17masturbation or pornography or lying or something that you did
- 59:21wrong. And you know you ought not to
- 59:22have done wrong all of that. We have the mediator between God
- 59:28and man who speaks on our behalf continuously.
- 59:31And we can have full access to God on our worst day and on our
- 59:35best day. What does despite to the spirit
- 59:37of grace and what counts the blood of the Son of God as an
- 59:41unholy thing is going back to God after you sin in some
- 59:45alternate way other than the one way that He has made this new
- 59:49and living way, which is Jesus. Amen.
- 59:52Amen. Thank you for recapping that.
- 59:54That's very good and I appreciate that a lot.
- 59:57All right, times up. Here's another hour gone.
- 1:00:02So as we conclude today's study, remember Hebrews 11.
- 1:00:06Faith is a substance of things hoped for and the evidence of
- 1:00:09things not seen. And I pray that your faith would
- 1:00:12grow and grow to it would reveal biblical truths more clearly
- 1:00:16that your physical eyes can perceive the things before.
- 1:00:19Join us next Monday. We're going to do the same thing
- 1:00:21starting in verse 30 and discover the rest of the story,
- 1:00:26as they say. So God bless you guys.
- 1:00:30Thank you very much. Appreciate it, guys, and we'll
- 1:00:32see you all next week.
