- 0:00Hey everybody, it's Jeff here from the PSD podcast show. It is Tuesday,
- 0:03July twenty fifth, twenty twenty three. By the time you hear this,
- 0:07some things may have changed, but we hope you enjoy the show.
- 0:35All right, folks, you're listening to Opposition Territory here at the Philadelphia Sports
- 0:39Table podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show in the world.
- 0:43That's right, for ten years strong. We've got a great discussion coming
- 0:46your way about a football team in the NFL that I think and many others
- 0:51think is going to be very prolific this coming season, and that is the
- 0:54San Francisco forty nine Ers. I know, I know, folks, especially
- 0:58those of us in Eagles Nation, we know what happened during the NFC Championship
- 1:00game this past year. But look this San Francisco forty nine Ers team.
- 1:04They have a lot of talent on offense, they got a lot of talent
- 1:07on defense. They are going to be a force this season for sure.
- 1:11We've got a great discussion coming your way about this team, so let's get
- 1:14to it. It's great to have back on the podcast joining us from Fox
- 1:18Sports Radio of the Lehigh Valley He does great work over there when he is
- 1:23on the air, and you know what, he does great work when he's
- 1:25off the air as well. Again Fox Sports Radio of the Lehigh Valley up
- 1:30here in up in Northampton, Lehigh Counties, we have the one and only
- 1:34Mike Raymond. How you doing, Buddy' go on, Jeff, good to
- 1:37see you over the summer, and I'm yeah, we'll be able to talk
- 1:38football today, Buddy, I'd say we're right on the Cup training camp.
- 1:42You know the Eagles are reporting today, Yes, yes, Eagles reporting today.
- 1:46I mean the Chiefs, the Jets, they reported a few days ago.
- 1:49It's that time a year, man like I can't wait. We got
- 1:52you know, sometimes I bring you on, Mike, we talk about Penn
- 1:55State. We're certain we're not going to be getting into Penn State today,
- 1:57but Penn State season is right around the corner. Actually go into the Delaware
- 2:00game with my family. Can't wait for that football seasons here, man,
- 2:04It's a great time of year. Yeah. Well, I'm gonna be posting
- 2:07some photos. I'm hoping to get down to Eagles training camp in a couple
- 2:10of weeks here. You know, as a Niners fan living in northeast Pennsylvania.
- 2:14This is the closest I can get the professional football stuff, Eagles fan.
- 2:17I'll have some content for you out on my social media platform. Very
- 2:21nice, and you can follow Mike on Twitter at Mike Raymond LV. He
- 2:24is a great, great follow. And let's get into the San Francisco forty
- 2:28nine Ers. That's what it's a team I wanted to bring you or the
- 2:31team I wanted to talk talk to you about bringing you on board here,
- 2:35Mike. Look last season, you know it was certainly a letdown in Philly
- 2:38for forty nine Ers fans and the team losing in the NFC Championship Game against
- 2:43the Eagles. But I'll say this, the season might this coming season might
- 2:49be the best forty nine Ers roster to ever hit the field. And I
- 2:53don't I don't say that lightly. Just looking at this roster offensively, defensively,
- 2:58oh my gosh, could be one of the best that this team an
- 3:01organization, or the best this organization has ever put together. I'm wondering right
- 3:06off the bat, like, where does the team need to improve most here
- 3:09in two twenty three in your opinion, to get back into contention for a
- 3:13Super Bowl, Because again, I think this could be the best roster the
- 3:16forty nine ers I've ever had. I don't know what are your thoughts here,
- 3:20Yeah, I mean, if you give me just an above average quarterback,
- 3:23I'd be a little bit more happy. But you know, to give
- 3:24me a Jeff Garcia from like the you know, early two thousands or something
- 3:28else, and I'd be thrilled going into the season. Obviously that we're going
- 3:31to get into the quarterback position a little bit, I'm sure, but you
- 3:34know, this team is just stacked. Specifically from a defensive standpoint, they
- 3:39look great. The front sevens probably some of the best in the nation.
- 3:44But yeah, you got guys like Nick Bosa and Fred Warner, Eric Armstead
- 3:47and of course Javon Hargrave. Thanks Billy, We'll take him take But you
- 3:54know, to me, this season it's all coming down to how far can
- 3:58you take it? Now? See what you you have the roster put together
- 4:02that can be a championship roster, especially since you're competing in the NFC.
- 4:06UM. You know, there's very few teams like if if this roster was
- 4:11in the AFC, Yeah, be a very good roster, but you have
- 4:13way more higher chance, you know, having a team get like pick you
- 4:16off, like the Ravens or the Bengals or the Chargers or you know,
- 4:20there's just they're stacked over there in AFC. So right now you need to
- 4:24contend not only you know, in your division, but for the conference at
- 4:28this point. Right, Um, you know you have a different defensive coordinator
- 4:30coming in this season with Steve Wilkes. You get we'll talk a little bit
- 4:32about that. I'm sure Damito Ryans was one of the best out there.
- 4:36He takes the head job down there in Houston, and I can't blame him.
- 4:39There was a player there, so I totally get it why he left.
- 4:42Um, you know, there's a couple of different positions. I'm unsure
- 4:46about the defensive backfield. Um to say that, actually is the defensive backfield
- 4:50actually your biggest concern And not that they're not that they're awful by any stretch,
- 4:55but I would say that defensive backfield might be forty nine ers nation's biggest
- 4:58concern this season. Yeah, so Deamado Lenoor and Shamarius Ward are gonna your
- 5:01starters on the corner. Telenoa Whofonga is one of my favorite players on the
- 5:06defense that no one talks about special teams, guy who made a name for
- 5:10himself in the defensive backfield at safety. They did pick up Pence Day to
- 5:15Lumjayre Brown in the draft this year. That was their first pick in the
- 5:17third round, so that was nice. I'm really excited about that. But
- 5:21really it's going to come down to that quarterback spot. You know. You
- 5:24know, they need consistency at the quarterback position, and I'm sure Philly fans
- 5:28know why. Absolutely well, let's get into the quarterback position here, Trey
- 5:32Lance, brock Purty. I mean, hell, EVENU Oh my gosh,
- 5:36why am I forgetting who the third guy is at this point? Damn Arnold?
- 5:40Sam Darnold. Ye, Sam Darnold coming from Carolina Panthers, New York
- 5:44Jets. We knew he was drafted by the Jets. But you know,
- 5:46well, trying to sift this out as somebody on the outside, while brock
- 5:50Purty seems like he's going to be the guy who might be able to get
- 5:55some wins and get some games under their belt, you know, for some
- 5:58consistency here. I'm still not one hundred percent sure, Mike about his viability
- 6:04long term. You know, Trey Lance certainly has had an unfortunate career thus
- 6:09far in the NFL. You know, from an injury perspective, what in
- 6:13God's name is going to happen here with this position in twenty twenty three.
- 6:15I mean, from as a fan, as somebody who follows this team,
- 6:19do analysis on this team as well, how are the forty nine ers going
- 6:23to handle the future of the quarterback position here? I think even some of
- 6:27the beat writers in San Francisco are going to have a hard time determining.
- 6:30I've seen people, you know, already saying Sam Darnold is going to be
- 6:34taking snaps week one just because you're unsure of the recovery for Rock Purty's elbows.
- 6:40You know that that's one thing that you have to contend with. Um,
- 6:43I'm glad you got a guy like Sam Darnold in the mix. He's
- 6:46a veteran in this league. You know, he didn't have the starting career
- 6:48that you want from a you know, a draft pick of his caliber.
- 6:51But he's a capable backup and it kind of brings a little bit more stability
- 6:57to the to the quarterback room when it comes to Rock Purty, when it
- 7:00comes to Purty, when it comes to Lance when it comes to Darnald that
- 7:03anyone could be under center week one, and I wouldn't be surprised. What
- 7:06I am reassured by is that we know that Kyle Shanahan is a quarterback whisperer.
- 7:12You know that he can get the most out of the guys whoever it
- 7:15is under center. You know he gets the most out of it. Now,
- 7:17in terms of the long term future of the position, I think that's
- 7:20up in the air. I think we're gonna have to see what Rock Purty's
- 7:24able to do. Like he he has given us no reason to take him
- 7:28take that starting position away from him. You know, he proved, you
- 7:30know over the chorus of last season that he can be exactly what the forty
- 7:35nine ers need with the amount of playmakers you have and guys right, it's
- 7:39the line of scrimmage that can be impactful when you get to the football on
- 7:43their hands. We don't need him to throw thirty forty fifty yard bombs down
- 7:46the field if we did try, Lansham have the job. We know he
- 7:48has a cannon of an arm. Like we know that the fact that just
- 7:53get to Walton McCaffrey, get the ball to deep both Daniel get the ball
- 7:56to Brandon Au George Kittle fifteen yards and under. You can get balls in
- 8:00these guys hands and they can take it and run for it. Uh.
- 8:03You know, decision making and confidence that skews brock Purty. We know that
- 8:07he was a veteran quarterback at Iowa State for many years. Um took it
- 8:11all the way to the NFC title game in Philly last year. People remember
- 8:13that. You know that that confidence is there for him. But Trey Lance
- 8:18is that great unknown. We know that. You know, we don't know
- 8:20any more about him today than we did the day we drafted him. You
- 8:22know that's that's that's the last part. Yeah, yeah, it's and that
- 8:26was twenty twenty one. We know he can spling the ball, UM,
- 8:30and he's in that mold of the dual threat quarterback that the league is trending
- 8:33toward. And you guys know it better than anyone. With Jalen Hurt thunder
- 8:35center. You know, the ability to use your feet in this game,
- 8:39and even guys who you know stay in the pocket like you're Joe Burrows and
- 8:41Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert's they use their feet from time to time too,
- 8:46so you have to have that biability. You watch brock Purty, he just
- 8:48hangs around and he sits to the pocket and thank god he has a great
- 8:52offensive line in front of him last year. Um, and I don't know,
- 8:56maybe he is the answer, maybe he's not. But also, guys
- 9:00are capable. I don't know what the future hold. Any of them can
- 9:01line up under center and you know, we got a coin flip here.
- 9:05I think, what's fascinating about what you were just talking about. And again,
- 9:09as an outsider looking at this forty nine ers offense, looking at this
- 9:13quarterback position, the quarterback needs to put the ball into a playmaker's hands.
- 9:18And at the end of the day, there are so many playmakers on this
- 9:20forty nine ers offense that it's not that it doesn't matter who is the quarterback.
- 9:26Of course, it does matter who is the quarterback. But it is
- 9:30the one team in the NFL where the quarterback position might not necessarily need to
- 9:35be the number one type of guy in position on the field. And it's
- 9:37fascinating to me to know that there is a team constructed like the forty nine
- 9:41Ers where the quarterback position might not necessarily need to be number one overall because
- 9:48of a ton of playmakers on all sides of the ball, but specifically with
- 9:52the offense, they've playmakers. It's just about every position, and it dovetails
- 9:56nicely into the next topic, which is the offensive line, which you mentioned
- 10:01as well, Mike, because I think one of the keys of the Niners
- 10:05success in twenty twenty two, aside from the playmakers, of course, was
- 10:09the way in which a very young offensive line was seen as a potential weakness
- 10:15and then they just manifested themselves into this gigantic strength for this team. I
- 10:20think it was not necessarily expected by a lot of analysts and pundits out there,
- 10:24the inexperience of that interior line. They really showed their prowess throughout twenty
- 10:28twenty two and they're going to be solid for some time in my opinion.
- 10:33Here, So how this offensive line moves throughout the season and the opportunities they
- 10:39give whatever quarterback is behind center, and the playmakers as well, that's how
- 10:43this forty nine ers offense is going to perform this season. Is that how
- 10:46you're seeing it as well? Well, let's start at the top, Jeff.
- 10:50When you have a guy like Trent Williams, a veteran at thirty five,
- 10:52it's still probably the best at his position in the league. I know
- 10:56some people may make argument with me a little bit on that, but we're
- 11:00ding hairs. The guy is unbelievable at thirty five years of age. And
- 11:05you talk about, like, so this offensive line a little bit of a
- 11:07transitional year. You have Mike McGlinchey moving on to Denver in the off season,
- 11:11which he kind of there was a lot of forty Ninders fans that kind
- 11:13of were up and down. It probably knew he wasn't going to be around
- 11:16going forward. But you mentioned the interior with Banks and Brendall and Burford.
- 11:20These guys stepped up in a big way last year. And one thing that
- 11:24I want to throw out there actually before I do that, Colton mckivitz is
- 11:28the guy who we're going to see try to replace Mike mcglinche, who the
- 11:31forty nine ers drafted way back, went out of Notre Dame, so you
- 11:33know, he's been with a team for a while and they hope he's the
- 11:35future. I think he's going to be under a little bit of scrutiny for
- 11:39the first couple of weeks and seeing truly what he's able to do, what
- 11:41he's capable of. The one piece that I want to throw out there that
- 11:46I think doesn't get talked about nearly enough. You hear his name maybe maybe
- 11:50once a game or maybe once every other game. Has helped out with that
- 11:52offensive line and helped make those playmakers get into space. A guy named Kyle
- 11:58us Check use check at the fullback position doesn't get talked about enough. The
- 12:03way that Kyle Shanahan not only lines Kyle you Check up, but lines up
- 12:07that entire offense. The formations that you have to prepare for as a defense
- 12:11going up against the forty nine ers, they make you rack your brain and
- 12:15come up with creative ways to try to stop these guys. Because Kyle Shanahan
- 12:18is going to use motion, he's going to put Trent Williams emotion, He's
- 12:20going to use Kyle use check the chip block. You don't know if you're
- 12:24going to throw dump the ball off to a running back. You don't know
- 12:26if it's gonna be a wide receiver screen. This guy is the most creative
- 12:31play caller in the league, and it makes me proud to be a fan
- 12:33of the forty nine ers because he is just so talented, and he's done
- 12:35it with so many teams throughout the years in his career in the NFL.
- 12:39I and I think that offensive line is going to be extremely dominant and up
- 12:46there with the likes of the Philadelphia Eagles offensive line when it's all said and
- 12:50done, as powerhouses. And what that's going to do for the offense,
- 12:54it's going to be. It's gonna be fascinating to see. I don't want
- 12:56him to do it to the Eagles, of course, but it's gonna be
- 12:58fascinating to see also the Eagle. The Eagles in terms of just pure strength
- 13:03are just leaps and bound ahead of where the forty nine ers are. But
- 13:07what I will say is Kyle Shanahan realizes that and is able to adapt to
- 13:11make sure this offensive line can do what he needs it to do. Yeah.
- 13:16So I think that's kind of the big difference maker. You guys are
- 13:18just pure strength, pure athleticism, and great guys on the offensive line.
- 13:22Very awesome offensive line in Philadelphia. Yeah. Absolutely. All right, let's
- 13:26let's turn us over to the defense here on the flip side, I do
- 13:30wonder how the defense is going to perform. Seems like Steve Wilkes is going
- 13:35to be perhaps kind of a different type of coach than Demiko Ryan's because after
- 13:39losing Demiko Ryan's in the offseason, I'm just I'm wondering how much of a
- 13:43difference we're going to see in terms of the scheme and specifically from a blitzing
- 13:48perspective. Back in twenty nineteen, Wilkes blitzed over thirty five point eight percent
- 13:52of the time when he was in Cleveland as their defensive coordinator, and I
- 13:58just wonder if we're going to see a little bit more of that, how
- 14:00that might change what the defense could potentially look like just from a scheming standpoint,
- 14:05Mike, what kind of defense do you think we're going to see under
- 14:07Wilkes this season? And is it going to be comparable to what Damiko Ryan's
- 14:11had on the field and the product that he was able to institute. Yeah,
- 14:16it's gonna be interesting. I don't quite know how to interpret it quite
- 14:20yet. Wilkes to me, probably has the easiest job as a defensive coordinator
- 14:24in the NFL. You know, you have this talent, just don't mess
- 14:26it up, you know, relying your veterans to be leaders, prepare the
- 14:30scheme each week and trust your talent to do what they do. We already
- 14:33know they have a very aggressive defensive front. When you have Nick post to
- 14:35get eighteen and a half sacks last year just on his own, that tells
- 14:39me something. That tells me that they can get pressure with just using the
- 14:43front four, So you may not need to do a lot of blitzing on
- 14:46defense. You know, when they run four two five type scheme that Wook
- 14:50likes to run, you're going to have that four defensive lineman, two linebackers
- 14:54and five defensive backs. I think it kind of brings into brings into focus
- 14:58your lack of death into the defensive backfield. I think that maybe on display
- 15:03just a little bit more. I think if you're going to attack the forty
- 15:05nine ers defense will be this year, you're going to have to do it
- 15:07through the air. But when you have Nick Bosa, Javon Hargrave, Eric
- 15:11Armstead, and Drake Jackson on your front flour and then the best linebacker in
- 15:13the league and Fred Warner, I'm sorry, like that front six or seven
- 15:18is going to be just fine lining up there, and I think you just
- 15:22have to watch and let your guys play in space, rely on their experience.
- 15:26Come up with that scheme. Yeah, come up with the defensive game
- 15:28plan, but like, let your guys do what they do and get after
- 15:31the quarterback that they do it like better than almost any team in the league.
- 15:35Yeah, the defensive front seven is one of the best. I remember
- 15:37back when Chip Kelly came in for the Philadelphia Eagles and he brought in Billy
- 15:41Davis as the defensive coordinator. Yes, of course it's some time ago to
- 15:45god, ten years ago at this point, and it was an incredible defensive
- 15:50talent that the Eagles had on paper, but because of the scheme what was
- 15:52run at that time, it was just it was just a shit show going
- 15:56for now I got to do explicit here anyway, It was just terrible going
- 16:03from that four three where these guys were able to actually understand other assignments,
- 16:07and then going to a three four where Trent Hole is now a linebacker.
- 16:11It was it was really ridiculous. I'm not saying that Steve Wilkes is going
- 16:14to be doing that by any stretch, but I think scheme changes for certain
- 16:18teams certain personnel can cause some challenges and some and some struggles. Every now
- 16:23and then you might be right and well again, we'll see on paper.
- 16:30That's all we can go off of at this point is I'm comfortable with the
- 16:33defense where it's at. And you hope Wilkes, he's a veteran quarterback,
- 16:36I'm sorry, veteran coach in this league. He knows what to do.
- 16:38Yeah, let's let's let's let's let him give it, have the opportunity,
- 16:41and we'll see where it goes from there. All right, sounds good again,
- 16:45folks. Talking to Mike Raymond from Fox Sports Radio of the Lehigh Valley.
- 16:48Follow him on Twitter at Mike Raymond LV. He's a great, great
- 16:52follow And I wanted to really talk about this division next with you, Mike,
- 16:56because last week on our Opposition Territory pod, talked about the NFC West
- 17:00and how it's going to just be a very interesting season because forty nine ers,
- 17:06of course, appear to be the most prolific team in the division,
- 17:08likely to take the championship, the division championship, if we had to make
- 17:14predictions today. The Seahawks, they generally genuinely surprised folks last year, and
- 17:19especially Geno Smith. I think the Rams, once they're healthier they're probably going
- 17:25to be a little bit better as well. Cardinals are kind of in that
- 17:26rebuild, retool mode. Who the heck knows what's going to happen with them
- 17:30this season. How do you see this division really taking shape this season?
- 17:34What are your thoughts? You know, if I'm trying to stay objective,
- 17:37but I still feel confident in the forty nine ers chances of winning the division.
- 17:41I think they're even with the uncertainty at the quarterback position and the new
- 17:45defensive coordinator, and you know, the offensive line struggled, and the one
- 17:48thing I really didn't really didn't talk about here is the lack of depth at
- 17:52the skillmaker position. You know, we know you've got t both Samuel and
- 17:56Brandon Iou because one of the best wide receiver tandems in the league. But
- 17:59behind that, not a lot. Behind George Kittle, not a lot.
- 18:03You know, Let's let's see, let's see where it goes. But I
- 18:04still think they're good enough to win the division. What I will say is
- 18:08the Seahawks um are an interesting competitive team. UM. I will say that
- 18:15Geno Smith should not have one comeback Player of the Year Awardie yep I had
- 18:22money and I really wanted him to win. I had money on Quon and
- 18:27and McCaffrey. Oh man, I had money on both of them, and
- 18:32I'm like, all right, I'm gonna win one of these. I'm gonna
- 18:34win. Of course, of course, you know, Smith, give me
- 18:37a break. I don't know. I don't know when they redefined that player
- 18:41comeback player of the Year as just a player who has played good for the
- 18:45first time in his career. I don't know anyway, continuing um, but
- 18:51you know we say tongue in cheap, but you know, Geno Smith excelled
- 18:55last year, UM, and due to a few factors, I should say.
- 18:59You know, he's a veteran quarterback, teamed up with a veteran coach.
- 19:00That's number one. Number two, he had Kenneth Walker, you know,
- 19:06come in and kind of stabilize that running back spot. Took the pressure
- 19:08off of him kind of early on in the season. I know Walker went
- 19:11down with some injuries towards the end, but you know, he had a
- 19:14really great running Gabe to help support him. In number three. He has
- 19:15one of the best wide receivers in the league that no one talks about.
- 19:18He came back cast there, but Tyler Lockett is a beast like no one
- 19:23gives him enough credit. And you know act you know this year add Jackson
- 19:26Smith and Jigba into the mix, the draft from Ohio State and Gino has
- 19:30plenty of targets to distribute to. So I'm not I'm not looking past the
- 19:36Seahawks like I did last year. I said they would probably be one of
- 19:37the worst teams in the division. That they proved me wrong, Like I
- 19:41never thought I'd be proved wrong. Right, You mentioned the Rams. The
- 19:45only reason that I'm taking the Rams over the Cardinals for like third place in
- 19:48the division is the fact that they had a Super Bowl winning head coach,
- 19:51the best defensive player in the league, and Aaron John Donald and of course
- 19:55quarterback Matthew Staffer, who's pretty good. Problem is, outside of Cooper Cup,
- 19:57who you're throwing to, Ben Jefferson or benz Chronic? I'm sorry,
- 20:03Like, who what are we doing here? Can Makers can't stay healthy as
- 20:07a running back spot and this team basically imploded over the last couple of months.
- 20:11And even if you talk to some some local Rams fans here, they're
- 20:15not They're not very confident going into this season, and the Cardinals. You
- 20:21know, you could probably comment a little bit more with the higher of Jonathan
- 20:22Gannon. I like talk about taking the money and running like Jonathan Gann and
- 20:26like you had the best defensive like output for for a season last year.
- 20:32And he was like, all right, I don't know if I could replicate
- 20:33that again in Philly. Let me just grab a head coaching. I mean,
- 20:38go get your money, man, go get your money again. And
- 20:41um. But you know, a new head coach is franchise quarterback and Kyler
- 20:45Murray still rehabbing that ACL. I don't expect to see him before mid October
- 20:48at the earliest. You know, I mean at least Colt McCoy, who's
- 20:52you know, an average backup. But you know, not a lot to
- 20:55speak of when it comes to the Arizona Cardinals. Just a lot of transition
- 20:57for them as well, new GM, new coach. UM. So it's
- 21:02you know, you look at this team and they look like the obvious bottom
- 21:04feeder in the division. But you know, I think I think with the
- 21:07Seahawks and forty nine ers race, that might be a race that we were
- 21:11looking at down the stretch that actually matters. I didn't I didn't see would.
- 21:15If you would have said a year ago today that I would have been
- 21:17saying that today, I would have been completely flabbergasted. Everybody would have Nobody
- 21:22thought Geno Smith was gonna have the type of season that he did, or
- 21:25be able to play under center like he did. Nobody thought that. Nobody.
- 21:27I don't care who we are, nobody thought that. So all right,
- 21:32moving along here, Mike, and to end things here, we're gonna
- 21:34do one of our new segments called the standout or stepped on segments. So
- 21:40start off with standout. Give me two players you think will be a standout
- 21:45this coming season for the San Francisco forty nine ers. The last year,
- 21:51I will have you know that I picked Brandon I Yuke as going to be
- 21:53the guy who broke out, and he broke out in a big way.
- 21:56Yes, he broke out a bit, He stood out, stood out the
- 22:00whole the year. I actually kept him in the way my fantasy football draft
- 22:03works, I can keep him him for a couple of years, and I
- 22:06think I got him as like a thirteenth round pick and he produced like a
- 22:10top ten wide receiver all years. So that was unbelievable. So I will
- 22:14say I have a little bit of confidence in my picks here today. So
- 22:17first stand out, number one, I'm gonna say, Telenoah, who Fonga?
- 22:21More response, more responsibility is going to be placed on his shoulders this
- 22:23year with the secondary kind of in transition. So look to Hofonga, a
- 22:27guy who's been with this organization, worked his way up from special teams practice
- 22:33like this guy. This guy is all hard and I really think he could
- 22:37be a really big impactful player in the secondary this year. Number two my
- 22:42second player to stand out, and you're gonna love this. It's got to
- 22:45be Javon Hargrave. Yep, absolutely think about it. He had a career
- 22:49hot, career high in sacks, tackles for losses, solo tackles last year.
- 22:55Just bring that intensity to an already stout defensive line. Hargreave is my
- 23:00second one to stand out this year. I'm gonna absolutely miss jay Von Hargrave
- 23:03for sure. In that Midnight Green. Okay, let's get two players now
- 23:08you think you think maybe stepped on a bit throughout this coming season, Mike,
- 23:12who are those two? By the way, the Kelly Greens. I'm
- 23:17looking forward to you guys, like honestly, as a Niners fan. As
- 23:19a Niners fan, I would rock a Kelly Green, Randall cutting Andrew.
- 23:22I'm not joking, Jerry Green. I'm gonna hold you to it. I
- 23:26will. I'll buy it with my own money, all right. Two players
- 23:30that I think I might might get stepped on this year. I had mentioned
- 23:33him earlier in the transition from Mike McGlinchey. It's gonna be Colton mckibbotz.
- 23:37I gotta watch and see what he's gonna be able to do. He has
- 23:38the potential to be stepped on, gonna be a lot to replace the glinch.
- 23:42He's a solid piece of the offensive line for many years, so I
- 23:45want to see him step up. But I can see him being a person
- 23:48that's kind of in the crosshairs when it comes to ridicule this year. So
- 23:52we'll see mckibts is number one, number two. I'm gonna blow your mind
- 23:56here, rock Birdie Rock Bertie. Oh wow wow. Yeah. Man.
- 24:02So if he doesn't produce like last season or has some kind of sophomore slump,
- 24:07there are other guys waiting in line, and you know Trey Lance is
- 24:08waiting for his opportunity to come in. I hope they don't rush Purty back
- 24:14from this injury. You know, the first couple of games of the season,
- 24:18you know, road game against Pittsburgh. You know, that's more difficult
- 24:22game, but you have a road game in LA, which is a home
- 24:25game for every San Francisco forty nine Ers fan. You know, for the
- 24:30for the most part, the first four weeks are if you get through that
- 24:34three and one. In the fact that Brock Purty doesn't play in those games
- 24:37just because he's not quite ready yet, I think that's good. But he
- 24:41has a lot of pressure on his shoulders. Now, you know, the
- 24:45tapes out there, you can kind of scheme against him. Now, there's
- 24:48a lot of pressure on his shoulders. So we'll see if he's up to
- 24:51the challenge. I hope he is. So I hope I'm wrong with this,
- 24:55but Brock Purty and Colton mcivotzs are my guys who I would have a
- 24:57little bit of APPREHENSI and going into the season. All right again, folks,
- 25:02He's Mike Raymond from Fox Sports Radio of the Lehigh Valley at Mike Raymond
- 25:07LV on the Twitter dot com. Mike. As always, Buddy, it
- 25:11is great talking to you, great discussion here. Let's talk some Penn State
- 25:14football next time you're on. I would love to do that, my friend.
- 25:18I'm ready to go. Let's go national title run. Here we go.
- 25:21Yes, let's definitely talk some Penn State football. But getting back to
- 25:25the San Francisco forty nine ers. Very interesting that Brott Purty, in Mike's
- 25:29opinion, could be that one player to be stepped on. If that does
- 25:33happen, what does that do to the offense, What does it do to
- 25:37the playmaking ability of the offense in general, and what kind of pressure might
- 25:41that put on Kyle Shanahan, who we know is just an incredible coach in
- 25:44this league. Not sure if it's going to do anything necessarily to him,
- 25:47however, very very interesting terms of Mike's analysis there. So it's gonna do
- 25:52it for us here on Opposition Territory, we got a great, great show
