- 0:12Hello friends, it is Sean here. It is a Friday and happy days.
- 0:18Well done. You have made it to the end of
- 0:21another week. I hope you were going really
- 0:23well. I hope that this has been a good
- 0:26week, whether it is you back to work, back to school, or whether
- 0:30you've been at work or school the whole time or wherever you
- 0:34are. If you are continuing the
- 0:37rhythms of your year, so good that you could be here with me
- 0:41today, that we can read a Psalm together and today we've got a
- 0:45great Psalm. It is Psalm 76.
- 0:48It's not a very long one, and it is a Psalm of praise celebrating
- 0:53how God has rescued his people. So this is, this is a Psalm of
- 1:00ASAP. This is one that begins by
- 1:03saying it's for the choir director.
- 1:05It is a song to be accompanied by stringed instruments.
- 1:08So if you could whip up some stringed instruments at your
- 1:10place, that would be ace, because I'm afraid that I'm all
- 1:14out. That's not entirely true.
- 1:15We do have violin here, but nobody who could play it
- 1:18adequately that you wouldn't start cringing.
- 1:21So let us join together with hearts full of praise as we put
- 1:27down the busyness of our day. And we come before our almighty
- 1:33saving God and we celebrate together with these words of
- 1:38Psalm 76. God is honored in Judah.
- 1:53His name is great in Israel. Jerusalem is where He lives.
- 1:59Mount Zion is his home. There he has broken the fiery
- 2:03arrows of the enemy, the Shields and swords and weapons of war.
- 2:09You are glorious and more majestic than the Everlasting
- 2:14Mountains. Our boldest enemies have been
- 2:17plundered. They lie before us in the sleep
- 2:20of death. No warrior could lift a hand
- 2:23against us. At the blast of your breath, O
- 2:27God of Jacob, their horses and Chariots lay still.
- 2:33No wonder you are greatly feared.
- 2:35Who can stand before you? When your anger explodes from
- 2:39heaven, you sentence your enemies.
- 2:41The earth trembled and stood silent before you.
- 2:46You stand up to judge those who do evil, O God, and to rescue
- 2:52the oppressed of the earth. Human defiance only enhances
- 2:58your glory, for you use it as a weapon.
- 3:02Make vows to the Lord your God and keep them.
- 3:07Let everyone bring tribute to the awesome one, for he breaks
- 3:11the pride of princes and the kings of the earth fear him.
- 3:27How good are you, Jesus? How enormous.
- 3:32When we look at a mountain, our brain boggles with the age of
- 3:38that enormous structure standing before us.
- 3:43But here the Psalmist writes that you are glorious and even
- 3:48more majestic than the everlasting mountains.
- 3:52Help us always remember with awe and reverence just how eternal
- 3:59and glorious you are, standing more high and powerful than
- 4:04anything that dare tremble before you on this little planet
- 4:09of ours. You are just spectacular and you
- 4:16love us. And here you are with us right
- 4:20now as we pray to You, our loving Heavenly Father, our
- 4:25Spirit who resides in us, and Jesus our Savior.
- 4:30We just worship You, our triune God.
- 4:35Amen.
