Transcript
- 0:00All right, everybody, Charlie Marlow, that is the great Kenny
- 0:03Wallace right there we are live on YouTube.
- 0:05We're actually also live on the Kenny Wallace X page for the
- 0:08first time. We're trying that out as well.
- 0:11And you probably see the headline already.
- 0:13We got 35 people that were waiting to watch this this live
- 0:18stream already, Kenny Wallace. And it says breaking news,
- 0:21NASCAR disqualifies Mike Wallace from Daytona 500 for inactivity.
- 0:26Of course, your brother Mike, it was big news.
- 0:29You broke the news basically here on the Kenny Wallace
- 0:32YouTube channel a couple of weeks ago, and this is some
- 0:35unfortunate news. Tell everybody what's going on,
- 0:37Herm. Yeah, thanks, Charlie.
- 0:40I received a call from Brother Mike on this Monday.
- 0:45You know, I know around 3:00. And his voice sounded very
- 0:50dejected. He's embarrassed, but the
- 0:55headlines are right. So Mike received a phone call
- 0:58from Elton Sawyer and Elton said, Mike, we're disqualifying
- 1:03you not just from the Daytona 500, but anything in NASCAR.
- 1:09And of course, Mike was upset, but nice, very nice.
- 1:12I want to make sure everybody understands that.
- 1:15Mike told me that. He told Elton.
- 1:17Elton, we're friends, but can you explain to me why?
- 1:21So Elton Sawyer told Mike that, Mike, because of your
- 1:26inactivity, you haven't done any racing in five years.
- 1:31So, you know, listen, all I could do is be a supportive
- 1:35brother. I told Mike.
- 1:36I said, Mike, listen, deep breath, keep your head up high.
- 1:41But, you know, yeah, So I mean, that is the breaking news.
- 1:47And I do feel bad for Mike. Mike is embarrassed and so yeah,
- 1:52what a bummer. OK.
- 1:54So you said not just from the Daytona 500, but from from all
- 1:59of NASCAR. So if he wanted to try to do
- 2:01something else, if you wanted to maybe run a truck race or an
- 2:04Xfinity race, is that also just off the table forever or what?
- 2:08Yeah, and, and that surprises me, Elton Sawyer told Mike.
- 2:13Mike told me. You know, I kind of think Mike
- 2:15called me, wanted me to know this.
- 2:18My brother Mike said, Herman, you are the very first person
- 2:21I've called. And I said, well, well, Mike,
- 2:23I'll put it on coffee with Kenny tomorrow.
- 2:25You know, listen, we made the announcement.
- 2:28We'll end the announcement, right?
- 2:30That's the way it goes. So Mike said, furthermore, Elton
- 2:35said to me, Mike, you can't run anything because you you've been
- 2:39inactive and, and I don't know, you know, I don't have Elton's
- 2:44phone number. NASCAR has always said, if you
- 2:47don't know, call us. So I'm sure there'll be some
- 2:52type of announcement. Why?
- 2:54But once again, Mike said, you know, NASCAR's the competition
- 3:01side and that's very important because we will get to that,
- 3:03Charlie. But but then again, I, I'm
- 3:06wondering, OK, how will Mike, my gosh, she's got what, 800 NASCAR
- 3:11starts? He's 65 years old.
- 3:15But I, but I, I, I do understand NASCAR's point of view on this.
- 3:20Mike has only run a couple dirt races.
- 3:23I think Mike ran somewhere in Missouri and maybe down South a
- 3:27couple dirt races lately. You know, he wasn't in anybody's
- 3:31way. He was up to speed.
- 3:33But NASCAR deems that Mike hasn't raced anything in five
- 3:38years. So they're the bosses?
- 3:41And when this news was announced just a couple weeks ago, there
- 3:45were a couple people I know you kind of went back and forth with
- 3:47a reporter on X who said, you know, should a 65 year old man
- 3:52who hasn't ran in a while be able to attempt to run the
- 3:55Daytona 500? So did you think that there was
- 3:59a a decent chance of this happening that NASCAR would come
- 4:02down and say, hey, you, you can't do this?
- 4:04Or do you think that Mike was already further along, you know,
- 4:07further enough along in the process that it was a let's go,
- 4:10let's do this, a green light. Yeah, fair question.
- 4:13I I'm not going to name any names because I don't want to be
- 4:18the one to say things wrong. However, Mike did talk to NASCAR
- 4:24executives. That's a fact.
- 4:26And they were, they were jacked up on Sun Drop.
- 4:29They're like, Mike, let's do it. Well, come to find out, Charlie,
- 4:33Mike did talk to NASCAR executives.
- 4:36However, Mike didn't talk to the competition side.
- 4:40And you know, you learn more and more as you go.
- 4:43So yeah, I mean, it's like, OK, I'm, I'm going to talk to
- 4:47NASCAR. Mike talks to NASCAR and, and
- 4:49they're excited. Well, just like companies are.
- 4:53And, and maybe Mike should have, you know, called the competition
- 4:59side. Mike should have maybe called
- 5:01Elton Sawyer, but Mike thought, well, I've talked to NASCAR
- 5:04executives, you know, they're excited and Mike kind of starts
- 5:09to process, you know, sometimes we mess up.
- 5:13And I don't think Mike messed up, but I think Mike felt like
- 5:17he had the green light from NASCAR executives.
- 5:20Well, as we know Charlie, you know, listen, you're, you're big
- 5:24into college football and you know, you're a great sportsman.
- 5:29You know a lot more than me, but you know, you got all these
- 5:33categories in sports. Oh well, well, you you talked to
- 5:37the marketing team. That's not the people in charge
- 5:41of NASCAR. Well, who do I need to talk to?
- 5:43Oh, you need to talk to the competition side to get
- 5:47approved. So that's where this went wrong.
- 5:52So yes, for the people that were not fans of Mike, for the
- 5:58reporter that said what he said about Mike, he ends up getting
- 6:04the last laugh. But I'm a bad ass and here I am.
- 6:08And it hurt. It hurt me.
- 6:14It hurt me 'cause I know my brother Mike, I love my brother
- 6:17Mike. It hurt me to see somebody come
- 6:19out so negative. And I already knew that Mike
- 6:23talked to NASCAR executive. So it's neither here or there.
- 6:27It was a timeline issue. And Mike is embarrassed.
- 6:31He's very embarrassed. And he's like, Oh my God, I'm
- 6:33embarrassed. But he felt like he had his
- 6:36ducks in Rd. Charlie.
- 6:38So you, you spoke to this a bit, but how dejected was he on the
- 6:42phone when you, when you told you this?
- 6:44And I think everybody knows the story by now.
- 6:46If, if you follow the last couple weeks and, and Mike loses
- 6:50his wife and, and you, you said he was lonely and this was kind
- 6:54of a, a big life thing for him, right?
- 6:57Something to look forward to. He said he was working out.
- 7:01I mean, this is a, this is a big deal.
- 7:03So how down in the dumps is he right now?
- 7:06He's devastated, he's embarrassed.
- 7:08He's more embarrassed than anything because the reason he's
- 7:11embarrassed is because if he thought there was, you know,
- 7:16after he talked to NASCAR executives, he would have never
- 7:19pursued it, right? He would have never pursued it.
- 7:23But he felt like he was good to go.
- 7:26But yeah, he he's dejected. He's very embarrassed is what he
- 7:31told me. But you know, I told Mike, you
- 7:35know, and look, I am the king of possum mental attitude because
- 7:42everybody eats dirt in life. Let's be clear about that.
- 7:46Everybody watching this right now.
- 7:47Yes, all of you, everybody eats dirt and you know, we all eat
- 7:53dirt and I've ate a lot of dirt, but I'm a badass Charlie and you
- 7:57know that I can't. Hey, even Dale Junior, Dale
- 8:01Junior text me. He said, man, he said, I love
- 8:04that one show where you said, I win it everything.
- 8:07And, you know, and I referred to his dad, you know, we just do.
- 8:11You're not going to get us. There's nobody getting nobody.
- 8:15Charlie, this was a storyline. And, you know, the storyline
- 8:19just kind of ended, you know, with not going, you know,
- 8:25through it, right? So Mike made a mistake and
- 8:29should have called competition first.
- 8:32But you know, but yeah, he, he, he's bummed out.
- 8:35Yeah. So not to put you on the spot
- 8:37here, but I'm wondering, is there any precedent for
- 8:40something like this? And and I I learned from you
- 8:43that what Mike would have been the second, the second oldest to
- 8:48run the Daytona 500 if he if he made it.
- 8:51So how do you think they would rule on something like this in
- 8:54the future? If it was somebody else, maybe
- 8:56they were 63, but they race a little bit more.
- 8:59I mean, you're what, 61 traders, 69 What?
- 9:02What if somebody dirt races and do you think, do you think this
- 9:05maybe opens up Pandora's box a little bit?
- 9:08Could NASCAR ever have an age limit?
- 9:10Do you think they would have to set some type of rules for
- 9:13things like this? Great question.
- 9:15And I like that because here's why I can relate with everything
- 9:20right now. I can relate the NASCAR decision
- 9:23and I can relate with Mike. And listen, it's not about me.
- 9:28We're talking about Mike. And I don't tell anybody
- 9:31anything. I tell them my experiences.
- 9:35I have people all around me. Saint Herman, how do you set
- 9:38QuickTime? How do you win these dirt races
- 9:41against these 2530 year old people?
- 9:44And I'm very serious when I say this.
- 9:46I keep my reps going, you know, once, once you quit doing
- 9:50something, you you can seize up. But I just stay racing so much.
- 9:55OK, So I'm sure Mike, Mike would have got approved if he would
- 10:00have stayed racing. You know, I bet Kenny Schrader
- 10:04would have been approved because he races 80 * a year.
- 10:09I bet I would have been approved.
- 10:10And I'll tell you why I would have been approved because last
- 10:14year I ran the Cars Touring series for Dale Junior.
- 10:17Ran good on the lead lap, digging up underneath people,
- 10:21winning all these dirt races, setting QuickTime.
- 10:24I really think Mike would have been approved if he would have
- 10:28kept his reps up. You know what I mean it and and
- 10:31I think that is the deciding factor.
- 10:33I just don't think there's a clear cut, you know, OK, you're
- 10:37this age, you're done. Because if you go back, I can
- 10:42remember Robin Pemberton, who was in charge of NASCAR at the
- 10:45time we're we're watching, you know, Morgan Shepard racing at a
- 10:50very high age. I think Morgan was 70.
- 10:53I really do respond, right, Charlie respond.
- 10:56But Morgan, I think was close to 70 and running the butchers.
- 11:01But but Morgan had his reps in. And I'm not putting words in
- 11:04Elton Sword's mouth, but I think what they looked at was Mike,
- 11:08they had no reps, you know, and it's kind of like working out,
- 11:11right? You know, if you've never worked
- 11:14out, Oh my God, does that first work out just hurt?
- 11:18I want to go back to something you said you talked to Mike
- 11:23about, you know, the depression of this decision.
- 11:27I just told Mike, I said, Mike, listen, keep your head up by
- 11:30deep breath. You're still Mike Wallace.
- 11:34That's what I meant by hey, Mike, nobody gets you, you know,
- 11:39But listen, you, you know, I got I got a heart and I'm sorry, you
- 11:44know, but my wife has told me in the past, Kenny, you're too
- 11:48loyal, you're too nice. You give people too much money.
- 11:51You're that's just my nature. So, you know, when you come
- 11:54after any of my brothers, I'm coming back at you.
- 11:56Listen, if you come at me or my family with a brick, I'm
- 12:00throwing a block back and and that's just, I mean, that's the
- 12:03way it is. So we have almost 2000 people
- 12:07watching live right now. Thank you very much guys.
- 12:10And please, if you haven't subscribed to the channel, hit
- 12:12that subscribe button. Give us a like as well.
- 12:16And I, I can't remember, but last year you, you had one of
- 12:19the big late model guys on and didn't they say that Mike had
- 12:23asked him about running a late model last year?
- 12:27So, so obviously racing is on Mike's mind, whether it's late
- 12:31models or the Daytona 500. Now, obviously they did tona 500
- 12:34is, is the biggest stock car race on earth.
- 12:38Do you think now that he can't do that, will he still want to
- 12:40do something else? I mean, could a, could a cars
- 12:42tour ride? Could doing something in dirt
- 12:45kind of a scratch that itch that he has right now, you think?
- 12:50Yeah, So I want to say this, Charlie, you're the best at
- 12:53this. I grew up watching you.
- 12:55You're you're good at it. Thank you.
- 12:59I guess what I want to say is I support whatever my brothers
- 13:04want to do. I don't put things in their
- 13:06mind. People say to me, how do you get
- 13:08along with your brother Rusty so good?
- 13:11Because Rusty loves me. And he tells, you know, it's
- 13:14like when people see Rusty or Mike, they go, where's your
- 13:17brother Kenny? And I know that's got to
- 13:19aggravate them a little bit. Not Mike's watching this right
- 13:22now. Mike will watch us.
- 13:24I love you, brother. I think now that this is went
- 13:27down and me and Mike talk every day, it's like I told him about
- 13:33Chrissy, you know, Mike's daughter, My God, she was good.
- 13:38But it was like they kind of gave up when And like even
- 13:45Steven, my family, I love them. When Steven couldn't run, you
- 13:49know, the Xfinity Series and Chrissy couldn't run a high
- 13:54level NASCAR, they gave up. They gave up in, in my message
- 13:58and I told Chrissy this and I'm going to tell Mike this.
- 14:02Mike, if you love racing like I do, go race spend, spend.
- 14:08I mean, I've spent $1,000,000. I, I didn't, I built, I built a
- 14:12shop up there. I paid for my motors.
- 14:15I've spent a lot of money living my life out because I love
- 14:19racing. I love racing so much.
- 14:22You know, you know, Schrader makes fun of me.
- 14:26You know, I tell everybody I do everything myself.
- 14:28That's because I'm, you know, I'm staying loose.
- 14:32I would tell Mike and Mike's listening right now, brother, if
- 14:35you want to race that bad, go racing, go racing and whatever
- 14:40it is, I don't know if I would do that CARS Tour series.
- 14:44I don't know if I would do those ASA stuff because that asphalt
- 14:48stuff, it is so technical. It's about the car.
- 14:51Those cars are so technical, Charlie.
- 14:54I think I would do a little bit of my stuff B mods, you know,
- 14:59now my A mods are bad ass. They're high horsepower motors.
- 15:04You know, you just don't jump in my car and go my car's high
- 15:08horsepower, 800 horsepower. I mean, it's like a light and a
- 15:11bomb, you know, even though it's, it's a, it's the four
- 15:14series. So my answer to you was very
- 15:18long winded, but I would tell MM if you want to race, let's race,
- 15:22you know, and I would go dirt racing and I would do it in the
- 15:24B mods or the A mods, you know, but Charlie, I don't need NASCAR
- 15:30to make me feel I don't need anything.
- 15:33I just, I need what I want, you know, and, and I'm the key.
- 15:37I went to sports therapy, you know, Square D paid for it all.
- 15:42They paid $22,000, you know, and I talked to Don the Snake for
- 15:47Dome. I talked to Brother Rusty.
- 15:50These are the most badass athletes in the world.
- 15:54They're they're boulders. They're right.
- 15:55You're not going to get them. And they taught me all these
- 15:58techniques. So just take care of yourself,
- 16:00Brother Mike. If you want to race, let's race.
- 16:04Yeah. Yeah, we have about 2500 people
- 16:06watching. Some people are just jumping in
- 16:09and wanting to know the story, which we're going on 16 minutes
- 16:13now. But so if you don't know, the
- 16:14headline pretty much says it all.
- 16:16NASCAR dequeuing Mike Wallace from his attempt, he was going
- 16:19to try to run the Daytona 500 and it's for inactivity.
- 16:23He's 65 years old. And the, the business side of
- 16:27this I, I'm guessing is all good because as you discussed with
- 16:29Mike, and I don't remember if he, if he said the amount of
- 16:33money on air, he told us, I know, but he had this car.
- 16:36It was basically a blank car and he could sell all the
- 16:39sponsorships and it seemed like he had a deal in place and then
- 16:43he gets this curveball. So is that all good from what
- 16:45you've heard? Well, you know, listen, I'm, I'm
- 16:49guilty of being straight up Mike doesn't need money.
- 16:54Mike can live on land itself. Brother Mike is an incredible
- 16:59entrepreneur. He, he, he takes commercial real
- 17:03estate and, and and fixes up and sells it.
- 17:07However, you know there's an old story the the reason me and
- 17:12Rusty made it to Charlotte so quick is because we ate peanut
- 17:15butter and Jelly sandwiches. We were broke as a joke.
- 17:18Brother Mike has never been broke in his life.
- 17:21Mike is smarter than Rusty and me.
- 17:24Mike has always been better with his money.
- 17:27So Mike was going to bankroll this all on his own.
- 17:31I know it shocks people. I got this story burning in my
- 17:37head. Kyle Petty told me this, Kyle
- 17:40Petty said. And this is kind of like Mike,
- 17:44Kyle Petty said. Diddy you know down South they
- 17:46call their dads Diddy's, which would have been richer, Richard
- 17:49Petty said. Kyle take all these old parts
- 17:54over to Buddy Arrington. Well for all the old fans, Buddy
- 17:57Arrington was a guy that ran 20th every week.
- 18:01So Kyle says, I take all these parts over to Buddy Arrington's
- 18:05and he says I roll up and Buddy Arrington's living in this
- 18:07mansion because Buddy decided to run 20th.
- 18:11Kyle said we were broke. Petty Enterprises didn't have
- 18:14any money. If you look at it right now,
- 18:16Richard's living in this little bitty old home because they
- 18:19spent all their money on racing you'll Mike's wealthy and that's
- 18:25just, that's just the way it is because Mike was born like that.
- 18:29So Mike was going to bankroll all this on his own.
- 18:32However, he had the opportunity to sell the car cause 'cause
- 18:36Carl Long said give me this much and if you get any more, you can
- 18:40keep it. Mike was raising money and so
- 18:44Mike will simply just give that money back to the people.
- 18:48So yeah. OK, let's see.
- 18:52We had a ton of comments which we can't get to, to all of them,
- 18:55but and there's a lot of complimentary ones of Mike
- 18:59obviously. And people are saying, you know,
- 19:01this kind of stinks 'cause they were rooting for him.
- 19:03Here's 1 though, just because this person, Liberty or Death
- 19:06says I'm kind of on NASCAR's side with this one.
- 19:09He's older and hasn't raised anything in ages.
- 19:12I also hope NASCAR loses the lawsuit.
- 19:14Now that's obviously different. The second part is the lawsuit
- 19:17about Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan.
- 19:19But I, I guess what this person's trying to say is, and
- 19:22I'm sure they were rooting for Mike, but I do think you can
- 19:25understand, yes, even if you don't agree with NASCAR, you
- 19:31can, you can understand it is. What I'm saying, yes, and, and,
- 19:34and I I liked that question because what he did is what I
- 19:39do, I'm going to hit you hard, but then I'm like, I'm going to
- 19:42pull. You know, when I use a knife, I
- 19:45never puncture the skin. That man did not puncture the
- 19:48skin, he said. Just worried about Mike and, and
- 19:51you know, me too. OK, so I'm cheering my brother
- 20:00on, you know what I mean? I'm cheering my brother.
- 20:02I just, hey, listen, it's no different than when Kenny
- 20:06Schrader told me. And, and, and Kenny Schrader, if
- 20:09you're listening to this, we're brothers.
- 20:11When Kenny Schrader told me he was going to run a a champ car
- 20:16at the coin last year, I was like, what?
- 20:20Champ cars are the most dangerous race cars.
- 20:25Now they're big, but I would say a Sprint car, a non wing Sprint
- 20:29car is more dangerous. But when Kenny Schrader told me
- 20:32he was going to run a champ car at the coin, I'm like, why?
- 20:38You know, so this can go all the way, You know what I mean?
- 20:45You know, does Mike have a death wish?
- 20:47No, you know, I mean, how many times did Dale Senior say drop
- 20:51the rag? It's like, oh gosh, aren't you
- 20:53afraid? You know, don't you want to
- 20:55defend against this? I bet people say to me, why
- 20:58don't you take your modified to a mild dirt track?
- 21:01And I'm like, because I build my own race cars.
- 21:03It's got a Pinto spindle on the right front.
- 21:06The drive shaft is small. Now I'll run an arc car at at
- 21:11the coin. So my my answer is this.
- 21:15I was worried about Mike too, but I figured, you know, the
- 21:19cars are safe and this is what Mike wants to do.
- 21:23That's where that's where I was coming from, you know.
- 21:27So I, you know, the guy that came out and was rude right away
- 21:34to Mike. I, I, I acknowledge it.
- 21:37I acknowledge it. It was just hard for me to hear.
- 21:40I don't like people roughing my family.
- 21:43Like I said, you, you throw a block at me, you, you throw a
- 21:46brick at me, I'm coming back with a block.
- 21:48So I acknowledge all of it. I acknowledge it all, and here
- 21:52we are. And it is more of a story about
- 21:55life. Now, Charlie, you know, it's no
- 21:58different than and you, Charlie. Let me turn this around a little
- 22:02bit. What sports figure was it?
- 22:05Albert Poole? So was it Jimmy Edmonds, who,
- 22:07you know, these guys that are 38?
- 22:08I mean, who's the guy that pitched for the Mets that was 40
- 22:14years old? You know, we see these guys
- 22:15doing this like, oh, my God, you know what I mean?
- 22:18You got to see that, right? Absolutely.
- 22:21What I'm wondering too is I, I think this is kind of
- 22:24interesting. It's it's not going to happen
- 22:26now, but we can talk about it. I mean, somebody who's 65 years
- 22:29old but has ran NASCAR essentially their whole life and
- 22:33is somebody who's great at Daytona, great at a, at a
- 22:38drafting track. And then, and I'm, I'm bringing
- 22:41this up because kind of the story of last week is somebody
- 22:43like Elio Castroneves, who obviously is this superstar
- 22:46racer, but NASCAR is going to allow some of these world class
- 22:50drivers with bigger names, whether you're F1, IndyCar,
- 22:54these guys can drive. But here's somebody like Mike,
- 22:57who obviously doesn't have as big of a name as Elio
- 22:59Castroneves, but he knows NASCAR.
- 23:02And that's that's kind of interesting too if you're
- 23:04talking about it from a safety standpoint.
- 23:06I understand Mike's older, but I mean he is a NASCAR driver and
- 23:11NASCAR is going to be allowing some F1 guys and some open wheel
- 23:14guys that don't have nearly as much seat experience in a stock
- 23:18car, right? Yeah, and, and I think Mike got
- 23:22lost in the holidays too. I, I think if Mike would have
- 23:25announced this, let's say December 1st, because I'm
- 23:30thinking Mike announces I got back from my cruise, you know, I
- 23:35think, I think Mike announces too late.
- 23:38And you, you, Charlie, look, I, I understand the executives are
- 23:42involved, but let's face it, those executives, they leave
- 23:47December 23rd and they're getting back from their ski
- 23:51trips, you know, and I think, I think Mike got lost by the
- 23:58executives because here, you know, when we look back at it
- 24:01now, we're just discussing it, OK?
- 24:03Yeah, we, we've said nothing bad.
- 24:05We're discussing this. If this were to ever happen
- 24:08again, now that I look at it, now that you're poking my brain
- 24:12right now, they should have said, hey, Mike, we want you to
- 24:17go to the ARCA test. And we want to see you.
- 24:21And we want to see what we want to watch you get out of this
- 24:23car. Because, see, that's what they
- 24:25did with all of us. You know, Charlie, there's a
- 24:27rule in place right now. You just.
- 24:30Mike's texting me right now. Let me see.
- 24:33Hold on. OK.
- 24:36Oh, wow. He wrote me a love letter.
- 24:40And he probably doesn't know we're on right now.
- 24:42But yeah, January 22 will be will be one year since Carla
- 24:49passed. Mike just said it's been a
- 24:53shitty day. Sorry for the cuss word, but
- 24:57it's a long one. It's about this long.
- 24:59He doesn't even know we're on the air right now.
- 25:01But this is recorded, so he'll go back and watch it.
- 25:03Love you, brother. So here's what I think.
- 25:06Here's what they did with me. Here's my story.
- 25:09Remember, everybody, my new deal over the last couple years, I
- 25:12don't tell anybody what to do. Tell you my story, NASCAR said
- 25:16to me, Kenny, you know, what you need to do is send us, you know,
- 25:24send us your, your, your biography.
- 25:26So I said, OK, I've run ASAI run Michigan Speedway in my SA car.
- 25:32I run Salem IN I, I, I run Winchester and Les Richter was
- 25:38the guy that wanted he was the man.
- 25:40Les was the man. He was the Elton Sawyer and my,
- 25:44my wife and my mom and myself, we put this beautiful biography
- 25:49together, sent at the NASCAR and they said, wow, we've never seen
- 25:53anything like this. You're approved to come down and
- 25:56test. So I went to Daytona, but I've
- 26:00already run, I'd already run Michigan Superspeedway in my ASA
- 26:04car. And I go down there and I spent
- 26:07two weeks testing. Then they approved me.
- 26:12Then they approved me. OK.
- 26:14So I really think that if Mike would have started this process
- 26:18earlier, it wouldn't have got lost in the holidays and he
- 26:23couldn't be, he could even play his case.
- 26:24He says, hey, how about I go down in an ARCA car?
- 26:27You know, so as we look back, you know, we're just discussing
- 26:33how to keep this from ever happening again.
- 26:35And you know, you just simply can't show up and go to Daytona.
- 26:38And I know that's a big statement.
- 26:40Charlie is simply can't just go to Daytona, but with 800 NASCAR
- 26:44starts, Mike's like I'll just go to Daytona.
- 26:48He talks to some of the executives.
- 26:50They're like, that's awesome. So yeah, then he doesn't, he
- 26:53doesn't talk to the competition side and he gets this, you know,
- 26:59tough phone call today. Yeah, well, people are into the
- 27:02store. We have a a total of 11,000
- 27:05people have already watched this on YouTube.
- 27:06We have 3400 watching now live. Thank you guys.
- 27:10Please give us the thumbs up, hit that subscribe button.
- 27:14This live stream brought to you by Jags, of course.
- 27:17And because we still have so many people watching Kenny and
- 27:20it is a really interesting story and now it's all, it's all
- 27:23hypothetical anyway. What do you think?
- 27:26How tough of a task do you think it would have been for Mike to
- 27:29make this race? I remember when he did the
- 27:31interview with you at the time, couple weeks ago, I believe he
- 27:35said there were about 8 cars that we're going to be we're
- 27:39going to be competing for the final four spots, right?
- 27:42And that was before NASCAR changes this rule.
- 27:45So now Elio Castroneves can be the 41st car.
- 27:48So whatever the math is, if Mike had to be one of three or four
- 27:52cars out of seven or eight to make the field, how much of an
- 27:56uphill battle do you think that would have been for?
- 28:00So I'm going to answer that question, but in a little
- 28:03different way. It was always going to be an
- 28:06uphill battle, but I think this was about the process for Mike.
- 28:11You know, when you interview people, sometimes it's hard to
- 28:13get things out of them. So I'm going to, I'm going to
- 28:15look into my brother's brain. I think this was more about the
- 28:19process because Mike always says, you know, if I don't
- 28:23qualify, good, I'm going to race my way in.
- 28:27Mike had this positive mental attitude.
- 28:29If I don't straight up, if if my speed is not fast enough, hell,
- 28:36I'm just going to qualify because Mike did that a lot.
- 28:40Mike was always in the twin at the time.
- 28:42It was the twin one 50s. Then they made it the twin 120
- 28:46fives. So Mike always raced his way in.
- 28:50Mike for furthermore, brother, brother Mike and myself never
- 28:55drove cars good enough that have speed.
- 28:57We were always either for me. I had one year where I was in on
- 29:01points, but you know, we always drove a lesser cars.
- 29:04And then, you know, my popularity with, you know,
- 29:08Talladega was because I was a good drafter, you know, and then
- 29:11then the same thing with when I drove the what was it the 87 for
- 29:15Furniture Row and I didn't qualify in on speed, but I I ran
- 29:195th or 6th in the 2150 and I raced my way in.
- 29:22And you know, so as Wallace says it, you know, we were always
- 29:26used to just taking mediocre cars and running those twin
- 29:30races and making it exciting. So in Mike's brain, Mike's
- 29:34Mike's going, hey, I'm going to speed weeks if I don't qualify,
- 29:38I'm going to run the twin 150. If I don't make the Daytona 500,
- 29:42You know, those qualifying races are on big TV.
- 29:45So I think that's the way Mike was looking at it.
- 29:48It would have been dejecting for him not to make the 500, but I
- 29:52think he he could. He would have been OK with it.
- 29:56For sure. All right.
- 29:56We're at about right at 30 minutes now.
- 30:00We've we've kind of talked all angles and anything I left out
- 30:03that you didn't get off your chest here before we wrap up.
- 30:07Nope, I think you did good, Charlie.
- 30:10Like I said, you're the best of this.
- 30:11I grew up watching you on Channel 2.
- 30:14I appreciate you interviewing me about it.
- 30:19I don't think right now was the time for Mike to talk.
- 30:22I'm not talking for him. I told Mike I was going to do
- 30:26this on coffee with Kenny, but I just felt like that was the
- 30:29wrong format. Because as you can tell, we've,
- 30:33you know, we tell what happened and then it's like, OK, how do
- 30:37we keep this from happening again?
- 30:39You know, because like I said, I bet Schrader would have been
- 30:43approved because he's racing every single week.
- 30:46And, and, and, you know, it comes down to their decision,
- 30:50you know, and they look at the paperwork and they're like, hold
- 30:53on. Mike hasn't raced any asphalt in
- 30:56five years. And I thought that too.
- 31:00But I thought, hey, you know, he, he's going to get some SIM
- 31:03work. He's going to go on the chassis
- 31:05down, he's going to go through the gearbox, He's working out,
- 31:08you know, and I and I, listen, I'll leave you with this,
- 31:12Charlie. If anybody was going to tell
- 31:15Mike no, it was going to be Rusty, not me, because Rusty's
- 31:21Rusty's the alpha male in this family.
- 31:23And I love my brother Rusty, but I don't Jack with him because
- 31:27he's the boss and it's just easier, you know?
- 31:30And we've listen, me and Rusty have had some knock down, drag
- 31:33out arguments. We we have up as a year ago, you
- 31:37know, but over silly stuff. And we love each other.
- 31:41We're extremely close, all of us brothers are.
- 31:44But if somebody's going to go, Mike, you know, we all told him
- 31:48he was crazy in a funny way, right?
- 31:50What the fuck are you doing? What?
- 31:51Well, OK, so, but you know, Rusty's response was, and you
- 31:55know what Kenny Schrader's response was, I wished I could
- 31:59do it. Kenny Schrader said I'd love to
- 32:01do it. Rusty said I'd love to do it,
- 32:03but my eyes are too bad. So, you know, I think I just
- 32:08want to end like that. And you know, what a dream it
- 32:12was, What a dream it was. And I'll, I'll be reaching out
- 32:17to Mike and, you know, we'll give him some positive mental
- 32:20attitude and maybe something goodwill come out of this.
- 32:25Well said. You mentioned you mentioned
- 32:27Schrader. Just so everybody knows, we got
- 32:29Herman Schrader coming out tomorrow here on YouTube and
- 32:33Dirty MO Media podcast. And then we have the Kenny
- 32:35conversation with Amy Earnhardt, which is really good.
- 32:40Recorded that one already. So that'll come out on the
- 32:42YouTube channel here on Wednesday, Herm, and then
- 32:45that'll be on Kenny Conversations Dirty MO Media
- 32:48podcast on Thursday. So we got a lot going on this
- 32:51week. And Amy Earnhardt did not let us
- 32:53down. She is absolutely fantastic.
- 32:56I did a deep dive on wilcopedia and everyone.
- 32:59She said Kenny Wallace. She said laugh out loud.
- 33:02She texted me. Well, then we interviewed her.
- 33:04She says you're the CIA. And yeah, listen to that one.
- 33:09You'll understand why Dale Junior married her.
- 33:12She she's a bad ass. And yeah, it's a good one.
- 33:16All right, thank you everybody for watching.
- 33:18Again, please give us a thumbs up.
- 33:20Subscribe if you haven't. Erm, thanks so much, buddy.
- 33:23We'll see you soon. And again, thank you everybody.
