- 0:03Speaker 1: It's a podcast called twenty five Whists talking fun ball
- 0:08Speaker 1: and they were a whizz.
- 0:10Speaker 2: So, yeah, it's too bad, but what did you expect.
- 0:13Speaker 1: It's a podcast called twenty five Whist Souls Whine.
- 0:18Speaker 2: They were welcome to the show, hit it, thank you.
- 0:22Speaker 2: So they did a Madden simulation of the twenty seven
- 0:25Speaker 2: season coming up.
- 0:25Speaker 1: And the Cowboys won it all really the whole thing, yep,
- 0:28Speaker 1: like this is really our year. Yeah, based on just
- 0:33Speaker 1: everyone's overall rating.
- 0:37Speaker 3: That's awesome.
- 0:38Speaker 1: That's awesome.
- 0:39Speaker 2: So it's not just you that's crazy, dude, that so
- 0:42Speaker 2: what now Madden's crazy. No, I'm saying it's not just you,
- 0:45Speaker 2: So you're not so crazy because you're alone.
- 0:50Speaker 1: Man. What I really liked though, is that no one
- 0:53Speaker 1: was talking about the Cowboys. I kind of was liking.
- 0:56Speaker 2: That you weren't, because when no one talks about them,
- 0:58Speaker 2: it means they're not very good.
- 0:59Speaker 1: Right, And that's when we were going to surprise.
- 1:01Speaker 2: It that you didn't. You didn't. You didn't surprise the
- 1:03Speaker 2: world ever ever, not once.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Yeah. I don't know, is this because like now my
- 1:09Speaker 1: son is sending me TikTok videos of Caleb downs, you know, preseason,
- 1:15Speaker 1: Like Dad, look at this, Dad. He looks yes, and
- 1:20Speaker 1: I'm like, stop, let's stop looking at that.
- 1:23Speaker 2: For a ninth year, in a row Y'ahoo Sports simulated
- 1:26Speaker 2: an entire NFL season using the Madden video game. In
- 1:28Speaker 2: this year, the simulation picked the Dallas Cowboys to win
- 1:32Speaker 2: the Super Bowl. Dude, that would be This is the
- 1:36Speaker 2: closest he's gotten to it in so long, because this
- 1:37Speaker 2: is actually exciting.
- 1:38Speaker 1: For him, so excited I could taste it.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Beating the Denver Broncos thirty one to fourteen behind a
- 1:43Speaker 2: dominant rushing attack led by Dak Prescott.
- 1:46Speaker 1: That's right.
- 1:46Speaker 4: What that's when you know it's false.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Da can run, he can run.
- 1:51Speaker 4: No it Since he broke his leg, it's definitely a
- 1:53Speaker 4: whole different ball game for him.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it's been different, dude, But look how Jack de
- 1:56Speaker 1: is though that what is that doing? Put your shoulders
- 1:59Speaker 1: down in plow people, That's what it means.
- 2:01Speaker 4: Hey, you don't want that from your quarterback, do you.
- 2:03Speaker 4: Josh Allen does it all the time and has he
- 2:05Speaker 4: won a Super Bowl?
- 2:06Speaker 1: No, he's not. YEA.
- 2:09Speaker 2: On a flip side, Madden projected the Jets to be
- 2:11Speaker 2: two and fifteen, so definitely sounds probable. All right, Yeah,
- 2:16Speaker 2: any new news with the WNBA that you've seen recently?
- 2:20Speaker 1: No, I haven't seen anything. What are they doing over there?
- 2:24Speaker 2: Coach get fired? Right? What did he say if she
- 2:26Speaker 2: got fired? It just happened.
- 2:27Speaker 4: Okay, then no, have I seen the wrong thing? You
- 2:29Speaker 4: can look at where she fired up maybe or something.
- 2:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Have you seen those memes where it's like somebody fired
- 2:33Speaker 2: in a small letters he goes up to be the
- 2:35Speaker 2: next leader people are. The problem with that is I don't.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I haven't seen she was fired.
- 2:41Speaker 4: Okay, then I'm probably wrong. It is like two days ago.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Why would she get fired?
- 2:45Speaker 5: I don't. I don't know.
- 2:46Speaker 2: I just not very well liked. And there's been she
- 2:49Speaker 2: was doing a press conference and she was saying, hey,
- 2:52Speaker 2: everybody on the internet relaxed because there was a video.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I think it was after the there was a maybe
- 2:58Speaker 2: even after the Sophe Cunningham thing where she goes out
- 2:59Speaker 2: and checks on the other player first and not your
- 3:02Speaker 2: own team. Yeah, own player, Oh dang, but who knows
- 3:05Speaker 2: the internet is stupid? Yeah? So how many, Eddie?
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 3:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I believe there are fifteen w NBA teams. Will
- 3:13Speaker 2: you fact check me on that?
- 3:15Speaker 1: How many w I have no idea.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Dude, did you say ten?
- 3:19Speaker 1: No?
- 3:19Speaker 4: I just laughed.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Oh, okay, they're fifteen.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:22Speaker 2: How many w NBA teams can you name?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Gosh?
- 3:25Speaker 2: I can try, okay, and I'm gonna try to mark
- 3:27Speaker 2: them off, but it's on my phone, but go ahead.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I could probably do five or six.
- 3:32Speaker 2: What can you name?
- 3:34Speaker 1: Indiana fever?
- 3:36Speaker 2: Indiana Fever? That's correct? Do you have to do the
- 3:39Speaker 2: city and the yeah, because otherwise if you just do
- 3:43Speaker 2: the city, that's kind of cheating because you're just chasing
- 3:45Speaker 2: NBA cities.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Okay, okay? Uh, Chicago Sky.
- 3:48Speaker 2: Two LA Sparks, three Vegas aces. Oh wow?
- 3:55Speaker 1: Good? One one of them is the sun? What's the sun?
- 4:05Speaker 1: It can't be the Phoenix Son because there's already the
- 4:08Speaker 1: Phoenix Sons. All right, give me Phoenix Son.
- 4:14Speaker 2: No, the sun is an etiquette, that's right, because it's
- 4:17Speaker 2: the Mohegan Sun. It's not because of how hot the
- 4:19Speaker 2: sun is. It's because of that. I believe that's what
- 4:22Speaker 2: it is. Moving to Houston.
- 4:24Speaker 4: Oh are they really didn't know that?
- 4:26Speaker 2: Again? Guys, I just read stuff. I'm pretty sure they're
- 4:28Speaker 2: moving to Houston.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Well, the coach has not been fired, by the way, okay, yes,
- 4:33Speaker 4: in twenty twenty seven, they are moving to Houston.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Wow, yeah, okay, how many do I get? Five? I
- 4:38Speaker 1: think that's it?
- 4:40Speaker 2: Okay, Well let me think.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Mmm, there's got I haven't said any Texas ones, right,
- 4:47Speaker 1: there's got to be Texas ones.
- 4:52Speaker 2: Well, you know it's not Houston because Houston doesn't have
- 4:53Speaker 2: a team yet. The right of the Sun.
- 4:55Speaker 1: I would think Dallas would have one. No, I don't know.
- 4:59Speaker 1: That's it. I'm done.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Okay, so you got five out of fifteen. Okay, thirty
- 5:02Speaker 2: three percent if I give you the city, give me
- 5:05Speaker 2: what you think the mascot is.
- 5:07Speaker 1: Okay, you got it.
- 5:08Speaker 2: And some of these, you know, but the Atlanta.
- 5:12Speaker 1: The Atlanta hmm, the Atlanta Brave Vets. I have no idea.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Interesting, I have no idea.
- 5:30Speaker 1: So are they kind of hawk?
- 5:32Speaker 2: No, I've never heard a team named this before. And
- 5:36Speaker 2: my assumption, I'm gonna do a lot of assuming and
- 5:39Speaker 2: I'm gonna kind of count on you as a fact
- 5:40Speaker 2: check me as we go that this name is based
- 5:42Speaker 2: off of civil rights.
- 5:46Speaker 1: The Atlanta Roses Roses.
- 5:51Speaker 2: No, that would be some I mean it would yeah,
- 5:54Speaker 2: that'd be kind of cool.
- 5:55Speaker 4: Yeah, you are correct, Bobby, really yep.
- 5:58Speaker 2: So the Kings, Okay, you're getting closer. The Martin Luther's okay,
- 6:02Speaker 2: but no, but you're in You're in the You're in
- 6:05Speaker 2: the ballpark, the rev revs. No, but what's something famous?
- 6:11Speaker 1: Go back to where you were just at Go Martin Luther.
- 6:13Speaker 2: What's something famous about him?
- 6:15Speaker 1: Oh?
- 6:15Speaker 2: The dreams, the dream Oh, the dream the Atlanta dreams.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Oh wow, that's really cool. I like that, all right.
- 6:22Speaker 2: The Chicago Okay, it's got to be some kind of bear.
- 6:25Speaker 2: You've already nailed it. You said it earlier.
- 6:27Speaker 1: Yes, And why are they sky Skyline?
- 6:30Speaker 2: I'd assume Okay, Wendy City sky Skyline?
- 6:33Speaker 5: Yep?
- 6:34Speaker 2: Is that right?
- 6:34Speaker 1: Yep?
- 6:35Speaker 2: Okay, the Connecticut Sun, which I do believe is the
- 6:37Speaker 2: Mohegan Son because I think they played in like the
- 6:39Speaker 2: Mohegan Sun Arena or something.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Okay, they're moving.
- 6:41Speaker 2: To Houston because Connecticut Son doesn't make sense because it'd
- 6:45Speaker 2: be the Connecticut Cold.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Seems purchased and ownership by the Mohegan Native American tribe.
- 6:50Speaker 2: Okay, okay, okay, Dallas. I knew this makes no sense
- 6:55Speaker 2: to me, and I'm sure I'm missing something. But all
- 6:58Speaker 2: I know about the Dallas team is that Pagebacker's place
- 7:01Speaker 2: for them?
- 7:02Speaker 1: See, man, they missed, they missed on this, and they
- 7:04Speaker 1: should have been the cowgirls.
- 7:07Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 7:08Speaker 1: That feels like childlike the Dallas Cowgirls does. Does the
- 7:11Speaker 1: Dallas Cowboys sound childish?
- 7:15Speaker 2: No, because cowboys are a real thing. But I'd say
- 7:18Speaker 2: girls are cowboys. If there's a woman and she's like,
- 7:22Speaker 2: I think she's a cowboy, like in real life, like
- 7:24Speaker 2: in real life ride and horses. I don't think you go,
- 7:27Speaker 2: there's three cowboys and two cowgirls out there. I think
- 7:30Speaker 2: it's all five cowboys.
- 7:32Speaker 4: Yeah, you're right.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I need a hint on this one.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I don't have it hin.
- 7:36Speaker 1: It doesn't make sense.
- 7:37Speaker 2: I don't know why. And I bet you there's a reason.
- 7:38Speaker 2: I bet it's like a Pegasus horse or something.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Oh okay, did you really just throw that?
- 7:44Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 7:45Speaker 1: Is it a Pegass horse?
- 7:47Speaker 4: Well? Yeah, draws inspiration from that?
- 7:49Speaker 2: No? What?
- 7:50Speaker 1: What?
- 7:50Speaker 2: What's what? I don't have it up. I just have
- 7:51Speaker 2: the teams up. So okay, I don't have any research.
- 7:53Speaker 2: It's are you gonna you can guess the Pegas horse?
- 7:57Speaker 1: The mobiles?
- 7:58Speaker 2: What?
- 7:59Speaker 1: What the do you thinking of the gas station? Like
- 8:01Speaker 1: the Yeah, because that's a that's a sign on the skyline.
- 8:04Speaker 1: There's a neon the pegasus on the buildings.
- 8:07Speaker 2: What does a pegasus horse do?
- 8:09Speaker 1: Fly? Okay, flyers?
- 8:10Speaker 2: Okay? Close?
- 8:11Speaker 1: Wings?
- 8:11Speaker 2: Yes, there you go, the Dallas wings. What does it say?
- 8:14Speaker 2: Why is it the Dallas mascot?
- 8:16Speaker 4: The Pegasus has served as the grief mythology symbol of
- 8:20Speaker 4: Dallas since nineteen thirty four.
- 8:22Speaker 2: Okay, so there is that symbol on one of the
- 8:24Speaker 2: buildings downtown at Magnolia Building. Like we're even learning about
- 8:27Speaker 2: our own country here, this one. I would get it,
- 8:31Speaker 2: but I don't know why they're named this Golden State
- 8:35Speaker 2: and this is the newest team, I believe. I don't
- 8:39Speaker 2: even know what this is.
- 8:42Speaker 1: The Golden State bridges.
- 8:45Speaker 2: No, that would be fun. Yeah, the London bridges or
- 8:49Speaker 2: the Golden gate Bridge.
- 8:51Speaker 4: Your bridges on not bridges.
- 8:56Speaker 2: This to me feels like a viking, like a Minnesota viking.
- 8:59Speaker 2: But I don't know what it.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Is, Okay, close, Golden State.
- 9:04Speaker 2: It feels like somebody in a boat that's like taking
- 9:06Speaker 2: over land. Is that what that is? Or is it
- 9:10Speaker 2: kind of like a demon?
- 9:11Speaker 1: Uh?
- 9:11Speaker 4: No, warrior?
- 9:13Speaker 3: Okay, I know it from a Marvel movie.
- 9:16Speaker 1: So it's a kind of warrior. That's kind of cool.
- 9:18Speaker 1: It's a playoff with then the warrior.
- 9:19Speaker 2: Do you know what it is? The valkyrie?
- 9:22Speaker 1: Oh?
- 9:23Speaker 2: What's a valkyrie?
- 9:24Speaker 4: I would have never heard that. Inspired by fearless, powerful
- 9:27Speaker 4: warrior woman from Norse mythology.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Yeah, don't know that one.
- 9:30Speaker 1: A lot of mythology here.
- 9:32Speaker 2: Indiana fever boom, Las Vegas aces my scambling boom. I
- 9:35Speaker 2: wonder why the fever? Let's think about that. Why is
- 9:37Speaker 2: Indiana the fever most flu in the winter?
- 9:43Speaker 1: Indiana?
- 9:44Speaker 2: What's hot about Indiana? Or that gives you the fever?
- 9:46Speaker 2: That chill? So the Pacers are like the pace car
- 9:48Speaker 2: from the race Car, right, Pacery five hundred? Yeah?
- 9:51Speaker 1: Yeah, the Colts they came from Baltimore.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Yeah, so a name that migrated with the team. Why
- 9:59Speaker 2: the Fevers named the fever?
- 10:01Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 10:02Speaker 2: What's it say?
- 10:03Speaker 4: A tribute to the intense passionate basketball culture.
- 10:07Speaker 2: Yeah, that's not And it's my favorite team. And let's
- 10:10Speaker 2: make it a Los Angeles Sparks kind of makes sense.
- 10:13Speaker 2: L A sparkly yeah, fire sparkly like glit. Yeah, that's
- 10:19Speaker 2: why I think Sparks. Okay, I think the best team
- 10:22Speaker 2: right now is this one? Minnesota.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Oh, Lynx. Yeah, cat right, that's yeat.
- 10:27Speaker 4: L L y right l y l y n xx.
- 10:30Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Why is the Lynx that mascot? Or is it just
- 10:32Speaker 2: let's just find a cool animal.
- 10:34Speaker 4: Directly from the state's native wilderness and fierce wildlife.
- 10:37Speaker 2: Okay, we just got a few left. The New York
- 10:41Speaker 2: Liberty yep, dang, and it's from the insurance company.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Liberty, Liberty Liberty.
- 10:47Speaker 2: That's obviously the Statue of Liberty Phoenix.
- 10:52Speaker 1: And that's not sun heat. No, it can't do the heat.
- 10:56Speaker 2: Okay, desert, you're not when you say eat, you're not
- 11:01Speaker 2: going exactly the right place. But this place is hot.
- 11:04Speaker 2: It's the hottest hell, the Phoenix Hell. To Phoenix Hell,
- 11:11Speaker 2: that'd be the ultimate sun. Devils, the devils. This place
- 11:16Speaker 2: is the hottest of all of these places, the furnaces,
- 11:21Speaker 2: the it's an actual place. Is a place like on
- 11:23Speaker 2: the world, in the world. No, it's a like a restaurant.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Mean like, how do you go from the world to restaurant?
- 11:30Speaker 1: What do you mean a place.
- 11:33Speaker 2: You can? We haven't. You could probably in theory go there.
- 11:37Speaker 2: We haven't.
- 11:39Speaker 1: Oh, Mars hotter, the sun colder. So it's a planet.
- 11:47Speaker 2: What's the Mercury, the closest planet.
- 11:51Speaker 1: That's right, I have seen that name.
- 11:52Speaker 2: Is that because it's hot?
- 11:53Speaker 4: Yeah, because Arizona's climate hot.
- 11:56Speaker 2: They didn't try very hard for that one at all.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Mercury Portland.
- 12:01Speaker 1: H machetes like trailblazers. Interesting Portland.
- 12:10Speaker 2: I don't know why they'd be named.
- 12:11Speaker 1: This is it a bird?
- 12:13Speaker 2: No, it's a natural element? Oh silver maybe natural element?
- 12:19Speaker 2: Element isn't fair. It's something that happens in nature. Evaporation yep,
- 12:25Speaker 2: the Portland evaporation.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Something that happens in nature.
- 12:31Speaker 4: Franchise.
- 12:32Speaker 2: The discovery of this changed modern man.
- 12:35Speaker 1: Gold, the gold and red gold, the internet. Dog, are
- 12:46Speaker 1: you sticking You're still sticking with elements.
- 12:49Speaker 2: Not an element because that goes to periodic table. It
- 12:52Speaker 2: is not on the periodic table. No, but it is
- 12:55Speaker 2: something that is not man made. It is natural, but
- 13:01Speaker 2: finding it changed the course of mankind finding it and
- 13:04Speaker 2: creating it.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Light.
- 13:06Speaker 2: You're almost there, bulb. Almost go further the opposite way, though,
- 13:11Speaker 2: because you took us to have the wrong way.
- 13:12Speaker 1: That come back, electricity, electric even more natural thunder lightning. Okay, okay, okay,
- 13:21Speaker 1: what's that one you said? Lightning?
- 13:22Speaker 2: Okay, you're almost there.
- 13:23Speaker 5: Bolts.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Nope, no, Lightning is probably.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Over there.
- 13:29Speaker 4: I don't want to know what's going on your head
- 13:31Speaker 4: right now.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Dude, that's crazy. I have no idea what this team's
- 13:33Speaker 1: name is.
- 13:34Speaker 2: Lightning is probably what allowed humans to discover this.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Ah bulb, shockers, no electrocution.
- 13:45Speaker 2: I would assume that because of lightning, humans were able
- 13:48Speaker 2: to discover this.
- 13:50Speaker 1: This is a it's an assumption because of lightning.
- 13:54Speaker 2: Yes, would you guys say that if I'm guessing that's why.
- 13:57Speaker 1: The shocks, the shockers, the electric electric.
- 14:03Speaker 2: Changed the course of mankind.
- 14:05Speaker 4: I know, dude, you're right there.
- 14:08Speaker 2: The light, the straight light, the lamps. Okay, so the lanterns. No,
- 14:13Speaker 2: that's way too in the future. I'm talking about. When
- 14:16Speaker 2: this was discovered, people are like, oh, our life is
- 14:18Speaker 2: now forever changed for different reasons.
- 14:21Speaker 1: For food, for heat, the calendar, the the for food.
- 14:32Speaker 1: What the refrigerators.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Okay, but the opposite of freezers, no no, no, no, no, no, no,
- 14:39Speaker 2: the opposite okay, but the opposite of freezing.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Melting, the melting pot.
- 14:46Speaker 2: If I played Passport with Eddie and we were on TV,
- 14:49Speaker 2: I might just stab them in the neck right in
- 14:50Speaker 2: the middle of the show. He said, the opposite of freezing,
- 14:53Speaker 2: the melt melt melting? What did modern what did man discover?
- 14:57Speaker 2: The fire? They are fire Portland fire, and I would
- 15:02Speaker 2: assume because thoughts trees up there.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Forest fires celebrates Portland's athletic passion and resilience, paired with
- 15:10Speaker 4: a modern logo featuring a rose on fire as a
- 15:12Speaker 4: nod to the Rose City.
- 15:14Speaker 2: That's lame and the Trailblazers because they are the trailblazers.
- 15:17Speaker 2: But the rose is stupid. I mean, rose would have work. Sorry,
- 15:21Speaker 2: the fire thing is stupid. Rose would at least work,
- 15:23Speaker 2: is it would have made sense called the Rose City.
- 15:24Speaker 2: But fire.
- 15:25Speaker 1: I have never heard of the Portland fires.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Just another fire?
- 15:29Speaker 1: Oh fire, Yeah, never heard of the light bulbs?
- 15:32Speaker 2: Seattle. There's only three left?
- 15:36Speaker 1: Are they? Something like like like the hockey team? What
- 15:40Speaker 1: are the grackles or something? Crackles crackles, you know, like, yeah, yeah, cracking.
- 15:48Speaker 2: That's the NHL team. It's nothing like that.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Okay, Seattle, the Seattle rain, that'd be great. Why did
- 15:57Speaker 1: they call themself the rain?
- 15:58Speaker 2: Okay, you're so close, really, thunderstorms, You're very close. You're
- 16:04Speaker 2: dancing on top of it. The Seattle storm. Yeah, there's
- 16:09Speaker 2: two left. I'd bet one hundred bucks you don't get
- 16:12Speaker 2: this one.
- 16:15Speaker 1: What do you got?
- 16:15Speaker 2: I've never heard of this one.
- 16:17Speaker 1: That's crazy that we've never heard of a team, a
- 16:20Speaker 1: professional team Toronto. Oh the Toronto Bagetts, Well that be
- 16:32Speaker 1: frank A Paris. Yeah, they're French there.
- 16:35Speaker 2: No, that's well Montreal is probably it would.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Be more like the bag d Oh, they don't speak French.
- 16:41Speaker 1: They probably probably some give me a hint, like what's
- 16:44Speaker 1: it element?
- 16:46Speaker 2: If this? This would work better in Nashville. Oh, guitars,
- 16:51Speaker 2: No ed worked.
- 16:55Speaker 1: The music notes.
- 16:57Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not directly on music, but it's something.
- 16:59Speaker 1: That that's slight music.
- 17:01Speaker 2: Yeah, but it could also be used in other forms
- 17:02Speaker 2: of oh sound people like people. I don't know why
- 17:06Speaker 2: Toronto would pick this out than the alliteration.
- 17:08Speaker 1: People, Oh Toronto. So it's with a te Toronto talkers Toronto.
- 17:15Speaker 2: If people are moving around quickly, travelers, Okay, if they're
- 17:18Speaker 2: moving around quickly, but also it has something to with music.
- 17:21Speaker 2: They're not together not it's not people moving around dancing.
- 17:24Speaker 2: But I'm saying independently it could be the tangos, it
- 17:27Speaker 2: could be people how they're moving around, but it could
- 17:29Speaker 2: also be something that's used in music. How it's defined
- 17:31Speaker 2: the Toronto travel clefts. That's too musical.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Okay, it's.
- 17:40Speaker 2: I'm gonna get's gonna give it to you.
- 17:41Speaker 1: But like the speed of a song tempos, the Toronto
- 17:44Speaker 1: I've never heard of that. Are they good?
- 17:48Speaker 2: I've never heard of either? And now have WNBA League pass?
- 17:52Speaker 1: Yeah you do.
- 17:53Speaker 4: Yeah, that was a public name your teen campaign.
- 17:57Speaker 1: Yeah, well that was a joke.
- 17:58Speaker 2: Oh that's a bad one.
- 17:59Speaker 1: Like, let's say we win this one.
- 18:01Speaker 2: The bag gats are better?
- 18:02Speaker 5: Yeah, thank you.
- 18:04Speaker 2: One more. I think you might get this one because
- 18:06Speaker 2: I think it might ring a bell. Come on, the Washington.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Wizards, the Washington Congress.
- 18:17Speaker 2: No, but you're more in the ballpark with the first
- 18:19Speaker 2: one Wizards, because obviously that's the NBA team, and I
- 18:22Speaker 2: think this is probably based off of that.
- 18:25Speaker 1: The Washington it is. Yeah, but I don't even know
- 18:31Speaker 1: why the NBA team is called the Wizards.
- 18:33Speaker 2: Probably alliteration, but I don't know, right because they were
- 18:36Speaker 2: the Bullets, and they had to change from bullets. You
- 18:39Speaker 2: can't be a bullets.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Were they the bullets?
- 18:40Speaker 2: That's a cool name. I don't know. The Washington Bullets
- 18:42Speaker 2: was kind of cool.
- 18:43Speaker 1: It was cool, but I wonder what maybe I lost
- 18:44Speaker 1: shootings in DC.
- 18:45Speaker 2: You know, let's just do it crime, how to crime,
- 18:48Speaker 2: go with it.
- 18:49Speaker 4: They were the Packers at one point.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Their big rival was the Memphis Carjackers.
- 18:54Speaker 1: They were so good, scrappy team, scrappy.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Scrappy, Saint Louis Home invaders, the city's highest crime rates,
- 19:02Speaker 2: like crime thing.
- 19:06Speaker 1: Oh man, all right, what are we doing? Washington? The Washers,
- 19:10Speaker 1: the Washington.
- 19:11Speaker 2: There's no alliteration, but it's close to like it's in
- 19:13Speaker 2: the ballpark of the Wizards, like it's based off the Wizards.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Okay, the witches. Ye oh, that'd be crazy, the Washington Witches.
- 19:25Speaker 2: But no, no alliteration, but you're you're dancing in it.
- 19:28Speaker 1: M fortune tellers, the Washington.
- 19:35Speaker 2: If we were to do charades acted out, yeah I can,
- 19:39Speaker 2: but it's just okay magicians. No, okay, ready, here we go.
- 19:46Speaker 1: One first word, first word? One who knows? What are
- 19:54Speaker 1: you doing with that?
- 19:55Speaker 2: One?
- 19:56Speaker 1: Bubby? The other? One word? One word? Got it?
- 20:01Speaker 6: Oh?
- 20:02Speaker 1: The god, the lizard, the sweaty lizard. The do that again.
- 20:11Speaker 1: We'll do what you're doing again. Oh, I'm surprised. What's
- 20:15Speaker 1: on my skin? I have it all over my skin.
- 20:18Speaker 1: I can't get it off. It's all over me. I'm
- 20:20Speaker 1: a goo goo. You have goo all over you. Dude,
- 20:25Speaker 1: I'm from Wizard. I don't even know where we're going
- 20:31Speaker 1: the Wizards.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I don't know what else I could do.
- 20:36Speaker 1: But what were you doing? Can you describe what you
- 20:37Speaker 1: were doing?
- 20:38Speaker 2: If I tell you, you'll know what it is. You
- 20:40Speaker 2: know what I was doing?
- 20:42Speaker 1: Yeah, and you know the name of the Yeah, you
- 20:45Speaker 1: have to look up the name of that.
- 20:46Speaker 2: I wasn't doing rain, but I was doing oh snow, no.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Light, rain, drizzles, the drizzles, missed the mystic that's it.
- 21:01Speaker 1: There are the mystics. Nice, I've heard of that.
- 21:04Speaker 4: Yeah, that's it.
- 21:05Speaker 1: That's interesting. You're the way you acted out missed.
- 21:08Speaker 2: What kind of turned pervy when I was like licking myself. Yeah,
- 21:11Speaker 2: I just want to show those like water and it
- 21:13Speaker 2: could be No, I got you. Okay, Well we can
- 21:16Speaker 2: do real sports now you want to Mike going to break? Yeah,
- 21:19Speaker 2: it's break, all right, come back with Mike Sando. We'll
- 21:21Speaker 2: talk quarterback tiers. That is coming up. All right, Let's
- 21:27Speaker 2: welcome in Mike Sando, senior NFL writer for The Athletic
- 21:30Speaker 2: and The Man behind the annual NFL Quarterback Tiers project.
- 21:33Speaker 2: It's one of the best off season windows for me
- 21:36Speaker 2: into how coaches, executives, and decision makers view quarterbacks. This year, Mike'
- 21:41Speaker 2: served fifty NFL coaches and executives, so twenty one execs,
- 21:44Speaker 2: twenty nine coaches, and had them place thirty five veteran
- 21:48Speaker 2: quarterbacks into five tiers. I listened to him when he's
- 21:51Speaker 2: on every other show, so I'm super pumped he's on
- 21:53Speaker 2: with us. Mike, thank you for the time.
- 21:55Speaker 6: Hey, I love it, and you've done your homework. That's
- 21:57Speaker 6: good detail. I'm excited for the conversation based off of that.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I'm curious and with Tier one, obviously we were gonna
- 22:04Speaker 2: have too, which is Josh Allen or Patrick Mahomes. I'm
- 22:06Speaker 2: curious if anyone thought maybe we wouldn't put Mahomes in
- 22:09Speaker 2: Tier one because of his injury.
- 22:11Speaker 5: No, there was no hesitation there.
- 22:14Speaker 6: I think that one thing about the quarterback tiers for
- 22:16Speaker 6: the most part, sometimes it's.
- 22:19Speaker 5: Like a little bit of a delay on the reaction
- 22:21Speaker 5: to things.
- 22:22Speaker 6: So somebody like that is so well respected, and I
- 22:25Speaker 6: don't think it's declining physically like I think we've seen
- 22:27Speaker 6: other players Peyton Manning at the end, you know, couldn't
- 22:30Speaker 6: really throw, or Drew Brees's arm left.
- 22:32Speaker 5: Him when he was way up there.
- 22:34Speaker 6: Those guys get knocked down, and obviously Aaron Rodgers has
- 22:37Speaker 6: gone way down. But I don't think anyone sees, you know,
- 22:41Speaker 6: a drop off in his play physically. Obviously there's an injury,
- 22:43Speaker 6: but he's kind of in the Tom Brady chair, I think,
- 22:46Speaker 6: where you're not just completely doing a new evaluation every
- 22:51Speaker 6: year probably on him. There were those some acknowledgments that
- 22:56Speaker 6: this is, you know, it's kind of getting to the
- 22:58Speaker 6: point where it's time to you know, have a that
- 23:01Speaker 6: a great, great season for him.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Do the executives or the coaches that you talk to
- 23:06Speaker 2: and just to stay on Mahomes for a second, do
- 23:08Speaker 2: they factor in the support that these players have, meaning
- 23:13Speaker 2: wide receivers or running backs, because that's what I think
- 23:15Speaker 2: about Mahomes, like he hasn't had a lot of help.
- 23:18Speaker 6: Totally agree, I think for I think he has earned
- 23:22Speaker 6: it so much because he's been such a great quarterback
- 23:24Speaker 6: winning championships, and he's won a championship without having a
- 23:26Speaker 6: great defense too in the past. But when you take
- 23:30Speaker 6: away everything and you basically have you know, no good
- 23:33Speaker 6: weapons and no run game.
- 23:34Speaker 5: I mean, that's about as hard as it can get.
- 23:36Speaker 6: And I think we've seen Mahomes do the best he can,
- 23:39Speaker 6: especially using his legs, running for his life sometimes and
- 23:42Speaker 6: just to keep drives alive. They become a team that
- 23:45Speaker 6: the Chiefs games have fewer possessions in the inner game,
- 23:47Speaker 6: you know, because they're just grinding it out, and that's
- 23:50Speaker 6: Mahomes just doing maybe burning the candle at both ends
- 23:54Speaker 6: to do it, and it caught up to him physically.
- 23:55Speaker 6: So yes, people understand that and give him the benefit
- 23:59Speaker 6: of the doubt. With that, somebody like Justin Herbert, you know,
- 24:02Speaker 6: at a certain point, I think the reasons for his
- 24:05Speaker 6: not getting over the hump feel like excuses. And I
- 24:07Speaker 6: think a few people have put him even in tier three,
- 24:09Speaker 6: so he doesn't have the he gets some benefit of
- 24:12Speaker 6: the doubt.
- 24:12Speaker 5: He's the top of tier two, near the top.
- 24:14Speaker 6: But you know, there's less patience for somebody who hasn't
- 24:17Speaker 6: really done it at any point in his career.
- 24:20Speaker 2: And I guess the last twenty five years or so
- 24:22Speaker 2: of me, like really paying attention to sports, even on
- 24:25Speaker 2: a somewhat granular level, I've never seen anything like Matthew
- 24:27Speaker 2: Stafford where the guy is really good and then it's
- 24:30Speaker 2: is he going to retire? He has to announce he's
- 24:32Speaker 2: not going to retire because he's getting you know, quote
- 24:35Speaker 2: unquote so old. But then he's a ninety nine on
- 24:37Speaker 2: Mad and then he's still tier one. I've never seen
- 24:39Speaker 2: it happen like this before.
- 24:42Speaker 6: Absolutely, And I think that's so when he was in Detroit,
- 24:45Speaker 6: everyone said tier one talent, but there's something missing, is
- 24:48Speaker 6: a bad organization, he's risking the ball too much, you
- 24:52Speaker 6: know whatever, And I think you do see that talent
- 24:56Speaker 6: coming into a really good situation with a good code
- 25:00Speaker 6: and a good team around him made a huge difference
- 25:04Speaker 6: for him now. Also, they sort of remember that he
- 25:07Speaker 6: had a couple of years there where it was kind
- 25:08Speaker 6: of cautioned to the wind with the drop back passing game,
- 25:11Speaker 6: and I think that that ended up being, you know,
- 25:14Speaker 6: maybe being too much, like it's too much of a
- 25:17Speaker 6: good thing, and Stafford needs some some rains or just
- 25:21Speaker 6: some structure. And I think mcveighs done a good job
- 25:24Speaker 6: of reincorporating the run game, you know, putting him under
- 25:27Speaker 6: center some Obviously they do the thirteen personnel which is
- 25:31Speaker 6: even though those guys can spread out, it's not just
- 25:33Speaker 6: a light spread offense. So I think that's helped him
- 25:38Speaker 6: as he's gotten older a little bit, the way you
- 25:40Speaker 6: know Rogers was helped by it in Green Bay when
- 25:44Speaker 6: to a greater degree they went to a you know,
- 25:48Speaker 6: under center type of an offense and saved him from himself.
- 25:52Speaker 5: A little bit.
- 25:53Speaker 6: As an older player who doesn't move around as well,
- 25:56Speaker 6: you don't want to have to be back there, just
- 25:58Speaker 6: just drop back pass.
- 26:00Speaker 2: All the time, we talked about Mahomes and how there
- 26:03Speaker 2: could be at LA or he just deserves Tier one
- 26:05Speaker 2: because of what he's done even though he was injured
- 26:08Speaker 2: into last year going into this year. But Joe Burrow
- 26:11Speaker 2: has been injured so much and he's in Tier one.
- 26:14Speaker 2: I feel like that injury conversation is a bit different
- 26:16Speaker 2: because Mahomes is kind of a one off that happened
- 26:18Speaker 2: at the end of the year, Like will he be back?
- 26:20Speaker 2: Does that factor in whatever a player has been injured
- 26:22Speaker 2: multiple times over.
- 26:23Speaker 5: Years, Yes, and I thought it might factor in more
- 26:26Speaker 5: with Burrow.
- 26:27Speaker 6: But I do say this, if you look at the
- 26:28Speaker 6: definition of Tier one, carries his team each week, expertly
- 26:33Speaker 6: handles peer pass situations. That's when both teams know we
- 26:36Speaker 6: have to pass the ball. Who's more nervous our guys
- 26:39Speaker 6: or their guys? And Burrow is the epitome of the
- 26:42Speaker 6: one who the defense fears when he's going to throw
- 26:45Speaker 6: the ball. He's a great passer, and I think that
- 26:48Speaker 6: is always going to carry the day more than duel
- 26:52Speaker 6: threat where the passing's okay, are good.
- 26:55Speaker 5: And so you combine the fact that he's.
- 26:58Speaker 6: He's been to a super Bowl and he's so he's
- 27:02Speaker 6: had some playoff success, certainly more than like a Lamar
- 27:05Speaker 6: Jackson or Justin Herbert, and he's seen as maybe the
- 27:09Speaker 6: best passer in the league. I think that shows you
- 27:12Speaker 6: what the voters value and why he's there instead of
- 27:15Speaker 6: slipping to the top of tier two, where Lamar Jackson is.
- 27:19Speaker 6: He fell out of Tier one narrowly, but fell out
- 27:21Speaker 6: of Tier one and had had a hard time being
- 27:24Speaker 6: in Tier one before that because he was perceived to
- 27:27Speaker 6: He's perceived, in the absence of playoff success, to really
- 27:31Speaker 6: be reliant on the running, which you know, doesn't hold
- 27:36Speaker 6: up as well in the mind of voters in terms
- 27:39Speaker 6: of you know, when the game gets really hard and
- 27:41Speaker 6: you got to throw the ball, that's not as big
- 27:44Speaker 6: of a factor.
- 27:45Speaker 2: Did most of the people you talk to consider Josh
- 27:47Speaker 2: Allen to be the best quarterback in the NFL right now?
- 27:50Speaker 6: I don't know about that, because Mahomes finished ahead of him.
- 27:52Speaker 6: I think you could say that if we're playing a
- 27:56Speaker 6: game tomorrow, set aside Mahomes' injury, like on any given day,
- 28:01Speaker 6: Josh Allen might be a tougher matchup. Does that make you,
- 28:05Speaker 6: you know, a better quarterback sometimes when it matters, right?
- 28:09Speaker 6: And I don't think the league was quite ready to
- 28:12Speaker 6: say that, although I'm sure you know. I think some
- 28:15Speaker 6: of the voters do think that Josh Allen may be
- 28:18Speaker 6: the maybe the best right now, but I don't think
- 28:21Speaker 6: it's overwhelming.
- 28:22Speaker 2: We have a massive Dallas Cowboys fan on this show
- 28:25Speaker 2: that is not me, but he is Dak one hundred
- 28:27Speaker 2: percent all the time. Dak makes Tier two? Where does
- 28:30Speaker 2: Dak fall in Tier two?
- 28:33Speaker 6: So Dak Prescott moved up five spots. It was one
- 28:35Speaker 6: of the big surprises to me. He got as many,
- 28:38Speaker 6: just about as many Tier one votes this year as
- 28:40Speaker 6: he's gotten his whole career before that. I didn't see
- 28:42Speaker 6: it coming because I just always thought Hey, Dak's good,
- 28:44Speaker 6: not great. I think most voters see him that way.
- 28:47Speaker 6: But something happened for him to move up, and I
- 28:51Speaker 6: think some of it is some of that stuff around
- 28:54Speaker 6: him is pretty good now and so maybe that helps
- 28:55Speaker 6: him shine. But I think I wonder if there's some
- 29:00Speaker 6: acknowledgement of two things. One that you know, the playoff
- 29:04Speaker 6: stuff's always been what people point to with him, but
- 29:07Speaker 6: it's kind of a thirty year problem with some pretty
- 29:09Speaker 6: good quarterbacks, at least him and Dak and Romo. And
- 29:13Speaker 6: is Jerry Jones getting a little bit of, uh more
- 29:16Speaker 6: of the blame for that in the absence of Dak
- 29:18Speaker 6: having just blown up in the playoffs recently. I think
- 29:20Speaker 6: if if Dak had a four interception game in the
- 29:22Speaker 6: play if they'd made the playoffs last year and had
- 29:24Speaker 6: a bad game, I think it would hurt him more
- 29:26Speaker 6: than missing the playoffs, if that makes sense in terms
- 29:29Speaker 6: of where he's at. It's been a while since since
- 29:31Speaker 6: he's had the bad playoff game. And then also I
- 29:34Speaker 6: think the league's gotten so young at the position that
- 29:36Speaker 6: Dak has appreciated for his ability to as a veteran
- 29:39Speaker 6: quarterback to kind of play the position the way it
- 29:41Speaker 6: used to be played. Is somebody who is in command
- 29:44Speaker 6: of the whole show, kind of running it and really
- 29:46Speaker 6: has a feel for what's going on out there.
- 29:48Speaker 5: That's fewer and fewer quarterbacks in the league today.
- 29:51Speaker 2: How do these guys feel about Jalen Hurts. We hear
- 29:53Speaker 2: a lot of yapp and I see him go to
- 29:55Speaker 2: a super Bowl and win a super Bowl, but then
- 29:57Speaker 2: everything coming from inside the locker room. But generally the
- 29:59Speaker 2: p people who know what do they think?
- 30:01Speaker 6: I think they feel like he is limited as a player,
- 30:04Speaker 6: and you can't take away those super Bowl moments. If
- 30:07Speaker 6: he didn't have those, he'd be a lot lower. Probably
- 30:11Speaker 6: he's barely holding on on the border of tier two
- 30:13Speaker 6: tier three. I think you could make a case that's
- 30:15Speaker 6: too low based on what he's done in two super Bowls.
- 30:17Speaker 6: But if we played this game, what if we said,
- 30:21Speaker 6: you're a team in this league, would you trade your
- 30:25Speaker 6: quarterback for Jalen Hurts? How many would Jalen Hurts be
- 30:29Speaker 6: even lower than he is now. I think there's guys
- 30:31Speaker 6: below him that you wouldn't want Jalen Hurts to take
- 30:34Speaker 6: over for the Saints.
- 30:35Speaker 5: Would rather have tighter.
- 30:36Speaker 6: Shuck than him, right, I mean, they just would if
- 30:39Speaker 6: the Eagles signed Jalen Hurts to a top five money
- 30:44Speaker 6: deal in the league right now and said he's won
- 30:46Speaker 6: super Bowls, this is our guy for the next five
- 30:48Speaker 6: years and we're locking in. Would I think some Eagles
- 30:50Speaker 6: fans would be like, good for Jalen, But man, I
- 30:53Speaker 6: don't know how would you would you be excited as
- 30:55Speaker 6: an Eagles fan or excited as a Cowboys fan?
- 30:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the super Bowl, you know, because we say
- 31:01Speaker 2: nap Dak didn't win in the playoffs, so we're gonna
- 31:03Speaker 2: hurt him a little bit. But you know, with Jalen Hurts,
- 31:06Speaker 2: he's been and one it's almost like a double standard
- 31:09Speaker 2: that you're holding these guys to. But again, like you
- 31:12Speaker 2: and you talk to the guys that know, like they're
- 31:13Speaker 2: able to see a lot of things that we aren't
- 31:15Speaker 2: able to see. And so the Jalen Hurts thing is
- 31:17Speaker 2: so interesting. Even in college, it was the same thing.
- 31:20Speaker 2: He's amazing, he gets benched, he goes to Philadelphia, he's
- 31:23Speaker 2: not good, he starts, he's awesome, he get So it's
- 31:26Speaker 2: just been a Jalen Hurt soap opera.
- 31:28Speaker 6: Yeah, Like would the would the Cowboys be if those
- 31:33Speaker 6: two teams traded quarterbacks.
- 31:34Speaker 5: How would the betting lines change.
- 31:36Speaker 2: This year pretty dramatically, I would think, right, you'd.
- 31:40Speaker 6: Think that the Eagles chances would go up and the
- 31:42Speaker 6: Cowboys would go down.
- 31:43Speaker 5: Right, Yeah, So that's probably our answer.
- 31:46Speaker 2: So did Sam Darnold make a big jump?
- 31:49Speaker 6: I mean a pretty big jump. I mean he went
- 31:51Speaker 6: from Tier three to Tier two. He's he had been
- 31:53Speaker 6: in Tier three even when he was with the Jets.
- 31:55Speaker 6: I mean, people kind of liked him coming out, But
- 31:58Speaker 6: he's not going to make a huge push up farther
- 32:00Speaker 6: than that to the top of Tier two because I
- 32:02Speaker 6: think people understand that for two years now with Minnesota
- 32:05Speaker 6: and cl he's had great defenses and those were really
- 32:08Speaker 6: the reasons why his team won primarily.
- 32:11Speaker 5: And he did his part.
- 32:12Speaker 6: And there were certainly times when they needed him to
- 32:14Speaker 6: you know, spin it and drop back and throw the ball,
- 32:16Speaker 6: and he did it, including in the championship game against
- 32:19Speaker 6: the Rams.
- 32:19Speaker 5: You know, he played great.
- 32:21Speaker 6: But he's not carrying the team every week, right, he
- 32:24Speaker 6: doesn't do that every week. He wouldn't want him to
- 32:26Speaker 6: try to do that every week. He's perfect in Tier
- 32:28Speaker 6: two because he can do it, but just in doses
- 32:32Speaker 6: and so there definitely is a whole or two in
- 32:34Speaker 6: his game. He can be loose with the football, you know,
- 32:37Speaker 6: that sort of a thing. And so I don't think
- 32:39Speaker 6: the sex are nervous having him at quarterback, but they
- 32:43Speaker 6: want to keep the context of it the way that
- 32:46Speaker 6: it is now instead of saying, we got we're going
- 32:49Speaker 6: to be a quarterback driven team.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Are there any of these guys that are just like
- 32:52Speaker 2: a season away with some postseason success to being Tier one?
- 32:56Speaker 2: And I think of a guy like maybe a Jordan Love,
- 32:58Speaker 2: Like that's who comes to mind? Any of these guys
- 33:00Speaker 2: that you think of that's one season away from being
- 33:02Speaker 2: respected the higher.
- 33:04Speaker 6: Tierily easily Herbert and Lamar Jackson, or they've been in
- 33:07Speaker 6: Tier one before, So that's kind of that's a super
- 33:09Speaker 6: simple one. I think that Jaden Daniels was at number
- 33:13Speaker 6: six after his rookie season and dropped to thirteen some
- 33:17Speaker 6: concerns about.
- 33:17Speaker 5: The team, injuries, and then his team.
- 33:19Speaker 6: He was two and five in the games he started
- 33:20Speaker 6: last year, So if he repeated his rookie season, I
- 33:23Speaker 6: think he would go to Tier one. I think he'd
- 33:24Speaker 6: be right there on the border, but he'd be close,
- 33:27Speaker 6: so he could definitely do it. Jordan Love I think
- 33:30Speaker 6: would go to the doorstep of Tier two. I do,
- 33:33Speaker 6: I think and press probably true of any of those guys,
- 33:36Speaker 6: even Jayden Daniels.
- 33:38Speaker 5: For the most part. One great season pushes.
- 33:41Speaker 6: You to the doorstep for the most part, and you've
- 33:43Speaker 6: got to kind of do it again. And so, you know,
- 33:46Speaker 6: unless it was just an MVP type season with the
- 33:49Speaker 6: playoff push, I think that could get him there, But
- 33:51Speaker 6: I don't necessarily anticipate that.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Does a guy like Aaron Rodgers see this and get
- 33:54Speaker 2: mad that he's fallen too? Tier three.
- 33:57Speaker 6: Probably probably wouldn't. But yeah, I'm sure he looks at
- 34:01Speaker 6: this and goes, you know, it is what it is.
- 34:04Speaker 6: But what's interesting about Rodgers is the coach has ranked
- 34:07Speaker 6: him a lot higher than the personnel people. The coaches
- 34:10Speaker 6: like a guy who can run the whole show, and
- 34:13Speaker 6: they you know, you almost don't have to coach him.
- 34:16Speaker 6: He's almost coaching your team, and he's almost coaching your coaches.
- 34:20Speaker 6: He's coaching the referee when he's out there first name basis,
- 34:24Speaker 6: you know when he's when he's he's his cadence is
- 34:27Speaker 6: so good. He's going to draw them off side and
- 34:29Speaker 6: throw it over their heads on defense. If if you're
- 34:31Speaker 6: late subbing on defense, he's going to catch you. All
- 34:32Speaker 6: those little nuances of the game, you know, appeal to
- 34:36Speaker 6: a coach, but I think a personnel person is looking
- 34:38Speaker 6: at it going, we got to this guy might not
- 34:41Speaker 6: make it through the season.
- 34:42Speaker 5: He can't be our guy. He can't get out of
- 34:44Speaker 5: his own way, he can't move.
- 34:45Speaker 6: And by the way, when he goes on McAfee and
- 34:47Speaker 6: says whatever he's going to say, what's our owner going
- 34:49Speaker 6: to think?
- 34:50Speaker 5: Right? I think that the GMS feel Rogers differently.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Two guys with extremely high ceilings. But we're gonna wait
- 34:58Speaker 2: and see another year. Drake Man Caleb Williams. Your thoughts
- 35:00Speaker 2: on those guys and why was Drake ahead of Caleb
- 35:02Speaker 2: because they went to the Super Bowl?
- 35:03Speaker 6: Basically, yeah, I would say that's probably true. And I
- 35:07Speaker 6: think that Caleb Williams is a little more volatile. I
- 35:09Speaker 6: think the ceiling could be higher for Caleb Williams on
- 35:12Speaker 6: any given day, but maybe the consistency is what needs
- 35:16Speaker 6: to be seen there.
- 35:16Speaker 5: And so it's.
- 35:17Speaker 6: Always a tough one for me when people ask which
- 35:19Speaker 6: of those guys is more likely to go to cheer
- 35:22Speaker 6: one because I feel like May is a little bit stabler,
- 35:25Speaker 6: but also a little bit less, a little bit lower ceiling,
- 35:29Speaker 6: you know, in terms of the spectacular plays, I think
- 35:32Speaker 6: if we put together a list of every quarterbacks spectacular
- 35:36Speaker 6: plays over the last two seasons, you know, the top
- 35:38Speaker 6: five of Caleb Williams might be as good as anybody.
- 35:41Speaker 6: But when you run around that much, you know some
- 35:43Speaker 6: bad things can happen too. So Caleb probably just needs
- 35:47Speaker 6: another year. He could pass Drake May. I really think
- 35:50Speaker 6: that he could. His rookie season raised so many questions
- 35:54Speaker 6: about him and probably put him in a little bit
- 35:57Speaker 6: of a hole coming into this year.
- 36:00Speaker 2: I like Cam Lord, who never had a shot because
- 36:02Speaker 2: the Titans are terrible. He's Tier three, he was also
- 36:05Speaker 2: a rookie high ceiling, or he's in such a bad
- 36:10Speaker 2: place that who knows.
- 36:12Speaker 6: I think there was a wide range of opinions. I
- 36:15Speaker 6: think some people were pretty high on it and some
- 36:17Speaker 6: people weren't at all. And so my guess is that
- 36:20Speaker 6: is that just people's evaluations coming out of college speaking
- 36:22Speaker 6: louder than what we've seen, because you do have to
- 36:24Speaker 6: discount it a little bit when you factor in it
- 36:27Speaker 6: with such a bad situation and even though he played
- 36:29Speaker 6: the whole year. I don't think a lot of people
- 36:31Speaker 6: were watching him as much either, So I think the
- 36:35Speaker 6: jury's very much out on him. As far as a
- 36:38Speaker 6: consensus in the league.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Do people when they give you their votes, is it
- 36:42Speaker 2: all anonymous and they're like, Sander, do not tell anybody
- 36:45Speaker 2: what I'm voting for.
- 36:46Speaker 5: It's a given.
- 36:47Speaker 6: H It's a given that I would never do that,
- 36:48Speaker 6: But I, you know, people, I have a good relationship
- 36:52Speaker 6: that way with people to where we can have really
- 36:55Speaker 6: open and frank conversations in this context and they know
- 37:00Speaker 6: that I'm going to handle it in a way that
- 37:03Speaker 6: doesn't you know, burn them or put them in a
- 37:06Speaker 6: bad situation, because otherwise they would be like all these
- 37:08Speaker 6: interviews that are done on the record where no one
- 37:11Speaker 6: wants to say anything. And that's that's a compromise worth
- 37:14Speaker 6: making on a subject like this to really get the
- 37:18Speaker 6: unvarnished opinions as long as me, the person putting.
- 37:21Speaker 5: It together is tries to be fair to the players too.
- 37:24Speaker 6: You can't just put in, you know, off the cuff,
- 37:28Speaker 6: personal sounding types of attacks, so I try not to
- 37:33Speaker 6: do that.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Final question, what do these Tier three guys? Could you
- 37:37Speaker 2: see the ceiling being high enough that they could eventually
- 37:39Speaker 2: be a Tier one guy.
- 37:41Speaker 5: Let me let me just refresh myself on it, and.
- 37:43Speaker 2: It could be none. It could be none, you know.
- 37:46Speaker 6: Bone Yeah, I would say in tier three, I'm just
- 37:49Speaker 6: going to go through them. Bonex, I don't think we'll
- 37:51Speaker 6: get to Tier one. Rogers, no Stroud, I don't think
- 37:54Speaker 6: so high to Daniel Jones, No, Bryce Young, no Kyler Murray,
- 37:57Speaker 6: no Dart, I don't think so. I think Dart has
- 37:59Speaker 6: to prove it, stay on the field. Cam Ward, I
- 38:02Speaker 6: would lean towards no, but jury's out to a no.
- 38:04Speaker 6: Tyler Schuck I think could go to high two at
- 38:06Speaker 6: some point. I don't know about one.
- 38:08Speaker 5: Cousins know. And that's it.
- 38:10Speaker 6: So yeah, it's slim pickings for Tier one futures among
- 38:13Speaker 6: those guys in my opinion.
- 38:15Speaker 2: When I got like, Anthony Richson makes the list and
- 38:18Speaker 2: he's not a starter, how do you affect like, how
- 38:21Speaker 2: does that affect who you're going to put even put in?
- 38:23Speaker 6: So I had a list of I think thirty five
- 38:26Speaker 6: quarterbacks made it in, but I probably had forty to
- 38:28Speaker 6: start with. So like, for example, I start after the
- 38:31Speaker 6: draft when the draft. Once the draft happens. We kind
- 38:33Speaker 6: of know the quarterback situations, but Rogers hadn't signed with Pittsburgh.
- 38:37Speaker 6: So when I start doing this, I have Rogers on
- 38:39Speaker 6: there in case he does. I have Mason Rudolph on
- 38:41Speaker 6: there in case, you know, there's somehow for some reason
- 38:43Speaker 6: going with.
- 38:44Speaker 5: Him right or there.
- 38:45Speaker 6: I think there were some other backups around the league,
- 38:48Speaker 6: you know that I would have on that list, And
- 38:50Speaker 6: then at the end, I'm like, Okay, we don't need
- 38:52Speaker 6: to put on this guy because he's not going to
- 38:56Speaker 6: compete for the starting job right now, right But in
- 38:59Speaker 6: other teams, I would have put to a Tango Vloa
- 39:02Speaker 6: and Michael Pennix for the Falcons because we don't really know.
- 39:04Speaker 6: In fact, I had three on there for Cleveland, including
- 39:07Speaker 6: Dylan Gabriel, because who knows what's going to happen. You know,
- 39:10Speaker 6: it could be a situation where Watson, Deshaun Watson reinjures
- 39:14Speaker 6: his leg and now they're going to let the other
- 39:16Speaker 6: two guys compete.
- 39:17Speaker 5: You got to have Gabriel in there. So I do
- 39:19Speaker 5: that and then pair it down.
- 39:20Speaker 2: You guys can read his articles at The Athletic. One
- 39:23Speaker 2: of my favorite writers. This is one of my favorite
- 39:25Speaker 2: things all year that comes out. You do such a
- 39:26Speaker 2: great job, Mike. Thank you so much for the time,
- 39:29Speaker 2: and it gives us something to talk about until games
- 39:31Speaker 2: finally start, because man, this is what's so great about
- 39:34Speaker 2: We get to finally talk about something I know.
- 39:37Speaker 5: I love it. We have actual, tangible stuff, so we're
- 39:40Speaker 5: getting there.
- 39:40Speaker 2: Thank you. Have a great day.
- 39:46Speaker 1: All right. Let me run something by you, guys. I
- 39:48Speaker 1: have some friends that I haven't seen and probably I
- 39:53Speaker 1: don't know fifteen years, it's been a while. They hit
- 39:56Speaker 1: me up. They say they're coming to Nashville, Okay, and
- 39:58Speaker 1: they want to go get some drinks. It's a couple,
- 40:01Speaker 1: they're married, but they're not coming with kids or anything.
- 40:04Speaker 1: And they're like, maybe we'll go to a bar, take
- 40:06Speaker 1: take us downtown, show us around. And I was like, dude,
- 40:10Speaker 1: I haven't been downtown like to drink like that in
- 40:15Speaker 1: a long time. And I'm thinking, I don't even if
- 40:18Speaker 1: I want to catch up with these people. I don't
- 40:20Speaker 1: want to take them to a bar and like try
- 40:22Speaker 1: to yell over the music. I want to. I want
- 40:24Speaker 1: to catch up fifteen years, what's been going on in
- 40:27Speaker 1: your life? I feel like I'm too old for.
- 40:29Speaker 4: The bars, specifically downtown.
- 40:32Speaker 1: I mean, they gotta go.
- 40:33Speaker 4: They've never been here.
- 40:34Speaker 1: They've never been here.
- 40:34Speaker 4: You gotta take them downtown.
- 40:35Speaker 1: But what am I gonna do?
- 40:37Speaker 4: It's not about you. It is, but it isn't. At
- 40:40Speaker 4: the same time, like if you've never been to Nashville,
- 40:42Speaker 4: no matter your age, like you guys could be like
- 40:45Speaker 4: suck it up and be like, you know what, I
- 40:48Speaker 4: gotta take them downtown. They got to experience and then
- 40:50Speaker 4: maybe like even in like an afternoon and then you
- 40:52Speaker 4: guys can go somewhere off downtown after a couple hours,
- 40:55Speaker 4: maybe d dinner.
- 40:56Speaker 1: Day drinking, yeah.
- 40:57Speaker 4: They I mean, day drinking is the best.
- 40:59Speaker 1: When's the last time you win day drinking?
- 41:06Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 41:07Speaker 1: Probably before well, before you got married.
- 41:11Speaker 2: No, before the kids.
- 41:12Speaker 4: I don't know, at least a year, a year and
- 41:13Speaker 4: a half maybe, yeah, but day drinking is the best,
- 41:16Speaker 4: especially on Broadway. But they just have to experience at
- 41:19Speaker 4: least for a little bit, maybe not the whole time,
- 41:21Speaker 4: but just for a little bit.
- 41:22Speaker 1: To my go to when people are like, hey, I'm
- 41:23Speaker 1: coming to town for the day or whatever, like would
- 41:26Speaker 1: love to catch up with you. My go to is like,
- 41:28Speaker 1: all right, come to the house.
- 41:30Speaker 5: That's the best.
- 41:31Speaker 1: Well, you know, like that's literally what I hit him with.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Come to the house, but it's a twenty minute drive.
- 41:37Speaker 1: Usually they flew in town, so like they're uber in,
- 41:40Speaker 1: it's a long uber And then you got to deal
- 41:43Speaker 1: with four kids, like one of them's gonna punch in
- 41:44Speaker 1: the nuts at some point, you.
- 41:47Speaker 2: Know what I mean, Like, I hate Nashville.
- 41:49Speaker 1: It's not what they really want to do. But at
- 41:51Speaker 1: the same time, I'm like, I don't really want to
- 41:54Speaker 1: go to the bars, Mike, what do you think I.
- 41:56Speaker 3: Think because it's Nashville, it's such a tourist destination. You
- 41:59Speaker 3: have to bite the bulleting. Oh last time I did
- 42:01Speaker 3: this when I had somebody in town. I feel like
- 42:03Speaker 3: I've aged out of bars at this point at thirty five,
- 42:05Speaker 3: because I just started looking around at the people around me.
- 42:08Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, these people look like ten years younger
- 42:10Speaker 3: than me. Now, that was the first time I felt
- 42:12Speaker 3: too old for the bar exactly.
- 42:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, trust me, I feel that way too,
- 42:17Speaker 4: especially here in Nashville. It's a younger city, like twenty
- 42:20Speaker 4: mid twenties. A lot of people still like living that single, fun,
- 42:24Speaker 4: crazy life. So I'm not saying you're wrong.
- 42:27Speaker 1: There is there a place downtown where they can get
- 42:32Speaker 1: that vibe, but at the same time I can actually
- 42:34Speaker 1: hear what they're saying and we can talk.
- 42:36Speaker 5: No.
- 42:38Speaker 4: Two, you can't even walk on Broadway and have a conversation.
- 42:41Speaker 4: That's not even in a bar.
- 42:42Speaker 1: That's what I'm talking about.
- 42:43Speaker 4: I'm trying to think of something because you know, like
- 42:45Speaker 4: every bar has multiple floors. Man, I love Roberts Western World.
- 42:51Speaker 4: It's like an older one.
- 42:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I've seen it.
- 42:53Speaker 4: They have a little I think they have a little
- 42:54Speaker 4: upstairs area maybe there.
- 42:57Speaker 1: That's not a bad idea what you saying, Mike.
- 42:59Speaker 3: There's a place I like that's my go to. It's
- 43:01Speaker 3: La Jackson. It's on the top of a rooftop of
- 43:04Speaker 3: a hotel and it's not like downtown Broadway, but there's
- 43:07Speaker 3: a like the rooftop. It's kind of spread out where
- 43:09Speaker 3: you can still hear the other person talking. It's not
- 43:11Speaker 3: like music blaring the entire time. It also depends what
- 43:14Speaker 3: time you go.
- 43:14Speaker 1: That's a good idea. I think rooftops definitely have that
- 43:17Speaker 1: vibe where you can sit and talk. I don't know
- 43:21Speaker 1: if they want to rage, like what the wife she
- 43:24Speaker 1: rages really like I think she still because she texted
- 43:27Speaker 1: me the today like for sure she was drunk and
- 43:29Speaker 1: it must have been like three o'clock in the afternoon.
- 43:31Speaker 4: Okay, she's a day drinker. Perfect dude. The stage, the roof,
- 43:36Speaker 4: rooftop of the stage is really good. It's usually not
- 43:39Speaker 4: too crazy. You can get out on the patio and
- 43:40Speaker 4: have a conversation. Is your wife, It's just gonna be
- 43:44Speaker 4: you, you think.
- 43:44Speaker 1: I think that it would probably just be me. I'd
- 43:49Speaker 1: love for her to go, but our schedules are so busy, Yeah,
- 43:52Speaker 1: that I don't know if she can get away. And
- 43:54Speaker 1: that's another thing too, Like how am I gonna tell
- 43:56Speaker 1: my wife? Like all right, yeah, see you at three,
- 44:00Speaker 1: Like I'm not going to go out and come home
- 44:02Speaker 1: at you know, two in the morning.
- 44:04Speaker 4: Yeah, you go out at like one in the afternoon,
- 44:06Speaker 4: come home at like seven, Perfect dude.
- 44:10Speaker 1: They drinking a part of me, boys, like part of
- 44:12Speaker 1: me is like what if I just go back to
- 44:14Speaker 1: old Eddie? Oh no, like that that.
- 44:20Speaker 2: I'm not coming home.
- 44:22Speaker 3: I'm going drinking at this boy, when you drink, you
- 44:25Speaker 3: always drink with the intention to get drunk. No, I
- 44:28Speaker 3: don't do that anymore. And it's shocking to me when
- 44:30Speaker 3: people that's still the goal of every night I know.
- 44:32Speaker 4: Yeah, no, no, I don't even Yeah, it's crazy. I
- 44:35Speaker 4: used to drink. I'm back in the day, like I
- 44:37Speaker 4: would want to get blocked out every single night. That
- 44:39Speaker 4: was your goal to go out and get blacked out,
- 44:41Speaker 4: blocked out. Why, I don't know, because it was just
- 44:44Speaker 4: like the Okay, who can get the most f up?
- 44:47Speaker 5: Like you or me?
- 44:48Speaker 4: Like after a football game in high school, my buddy
- 44:50Speaker 4: and I would just grab a bottle each and it's like,
- 44:52Speaker 4: you can't get up until you finish that bottle.
- 44:54Speaker 1: What on earth, dude? I did not want to go
- 44:56Speaker 1: out with you.
- 44:58Speaker 2: No you didn't.
- 44:58Speaker 4: You didn't, but trust me.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Now, and we never did. Actually, yeah, yeah we missed.
- 45:03Speaker 1: We missed our times.
- 45:04Speaker 4: That's true. Huh. When I moved here, like you were
- 45:06Speaker 4: out of that face for sure. Yeah, all you guys
- 45:10Speaker 4: when I moved here, I got five years ago.
- 45:12Speaker 1: Mike was never really in it.
- 45:13Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 45:14Speaker 1: I don't think Mike, have we ever? Nah, you didn't really.
- 45:17Speaker 1: I don't think I've ever drank around you.
- 45:18Speaker 2: Now.
- 45:18Speaker 3: By the time I got here, I kind of stopped drinking.
- 45:20Speaker 3: I would drink like once or twice a year. Yeah,
- 45:22Speaker 3: like my early twenties when I went I didn't really
- 45:25Speaker 3: go hard because I didn't go out and drink.
- 45:26Speaker 2: I didn't go to bars.
- 45:27Speaker 3: I would just sit at.
- 45:28Speaker 2: Home and drink.
- 45:30Speaker 3: My goal every weekend was like, there's gonna be one
- 45:33Speaker 3: night where I finished a case of beer. You were
- 45:35Speaker 3: a beer drinker. I love beer, Liller lights. I drink
- 45:39Speaker 3: Paps blue. I was like any cheap beer and that
- 45:41Speaker 3: blue ribbon was my go to, Like getting a six
- 45:44Speaker 3: pack of Tall Boys of Paps that was like six dollars.
- 45:48Speaker 2: That was my go to.
- 45:49Speaker 4: You just sit on the couch and just like watch
- 45:51Speaker 4: movies and drink beer.
- 45:52Speaker 3: We'd have friends over, like our group of like three
- 45:54Speaker 3: or four other nerd friends, and we'd all just drink
- 45:56Speaker 3: beer hang out and that was my favorite thing to do.
- 46:00Speaker 1: And why did you stop drinking? Like just because you
- 46:03Speaker 1: weren't in the mood anymore.
- 46:05Speaker 3: I got pretty unhealthy where I would drink and then
- 46:08Speaker 3: I'd be like, all right, let's walk and go get
- 46:09Speaker 3: some fast food. And it was kind of just like
- 46:11Speaker 3: this vicious cycle. And then I got to like three
- 46:13Speaker 3: hundred pounds. I was like, I gotta cut the beer.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Dude, that's crazy because that did go hand in hand,
- 46:17Speaker 1: like if you drank, yeah, it's like we've got to
- 46:20Speaker 1: go get water burger. Oh yeah, you gotta go get
- 46:23Speaker 1: junk food.
- 46:24Speaker 3: And this is when I was living in Austin, So
- 46:26Speaker 3: I lived in an apartment where everything around me was walkable.
- 46:29Speaker 3: So there was like a taco belly here, a water
- 46:31Speaker 3: burger here. I knew it was dark days when I
- 46:33Speaker 3: would walk to the lawndo on Silvers, I'm like, I
- 46:36Speaker 3: want some.
- 46:37Speaker 2: Fried fish right now.
- 46:38Speaker 1: I want that film that stays in your mouth from
- 46:41Speaker 1: the fried food.
- 46:42Speaker 3: And the worst thing is you wake up the next
- 46:43Speaker 3: day and you're like, oh, I just feel the grease.
- 46:46Speaker 1: That's what I was gonna ask you, Kevin, because like
- 46:48Speaker 1: you're all black out. You want to get black out.
- 46:50Speaker 1: But what were the next days like for you? Ah?
- 46:52Speaker 4: Well, when I was younger, I mean, shoot, dude, wake up,
- 46:55Speaker 4: dude again hair of the dog? Oh yeah, I hear
- 46:56Speaker 4: the dog. Dude again, let's go. What are we doing tonight?
- 46:59Speaker 4: Like to plan? But I mean as of even when
- 47:03Speaker 4: I moved to Nashville. I was thirty when I moved
- 47:05Speaker 4: to here. Yeah, and you know, Nashville is crazy. And
- 47:09Speaker 4: the first year I went pretty hard too, and then
- 47:10Speaker 4: I realized like, Okay, this isn't I would lay in
- 47:13Speaker 4: bed literally all day the next day, like just lay
- 47:15Speaker 4: in bed and just watch.
- 47:16Speaker 1: You knew that was coming, Like you knew that Sunday
- 47:19Speaker 1: or whatever day was going to be rest day.
- 47:22Speaker 4: Yeah, if I had a day, I would never like
- 47:24Speaker 4: go out and go ham and then come to here
- 47:27Speaker 4: the next day.
- 47:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 47:28Speaker 4: But yeah, like a Friday or Saturday, I knew I
- 47:30Speaker 4: had a whole day. If I wanted to just waste it,
- 47:32Speaker 4: I would, And after a year of doing that, I
- 47:34Speaker 4: was like, I need to get my my life together.
- 47:36Speaker 1: You would, though, dude, I remember when you first moved here.
- 47:39Speaker 1: You would go out on my Monday night to go
- 47:42Speaker 1: see a show or something.
- 47:43Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, I would say yes to everything because
- 47:45Speaker 4: like you want free you want tickets to go see
- 47:47Speaker 4: Morgan Wallan or whatever. And I'd be like, absolutely, it's
- 47:50Speaker 4: a Wednesday night. I don't care, dude. The craziest for
- 47:53Speaker 4: me is like, we're probably here. We moved here, and
- 47:55Speaker 4: I'd say, like two years after we moved here, Uh,
- 47:58Speaker 4: some guy that worked in our building was like, hey, man,
- 48:00Speaker 4: Pearl Jams playing in Memphis.
- 48:01Speaker 1: You want to go with me. I'm like, that's not
- 48:02Speaker 1: a Thursday night. He's like, let's do it. So we
- 48:05Speaker 1: went to Memphis, watched Pearl Jam, drove all night back
- 48:10Speaker 1: and I went straight to the radio station.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Oh my god, didn't sleep.
- 48:14Speaker 4: Don't you look back at that and you're just like,
- 48:15Speaker 4: how why, why?
- 48:17Speaker 1: Why would you even do that?
- 48:19Speaker 4: Like that sounds awful.
- 48:20Speaker 2: I want to go downtown to here on a Thursday night.
- 48:22Speaker 4: Yeah exactly, Yeah, that sounds awful.
- 48:25Speaker 1: Yeah, that's crazy, crazy days.
- 48:27Speaker 4: So all right, you gotta let us know what you do.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Then I'm kind of leaning towards hitting him again with it.
- 48:34Speaker 1: Come to the house, and then if they really just
- 48:36Speaker 1: want to go out, I'm just gonna say, hey, I'll
- 48:39Speaker 1: give you like a couple hours they drinking. Yeah, that's
- 48:42Speaker 1: two hours, and I think I'm gonna do a rooftop. Yeah,
- 48:45Speaker 1: I think rooftop's way to go.
- 48:46Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm jealous.
- 48:49Speaker 1: We're definitely at that age though, we're so old.
- 48:52Speaker 4: I know that is true. And then even when you
- 48:54Speaker 4: do do it, you look forward to it, and then
- 48:55Speaker 4: the day comes and you're all tired of like day,
- 48:57Speaker 4: I don't even know if I really want to do this.
- 48:58Speaker 1: I know honestly, I might even cancel. Yeah, take it
- 49:02Speaker 1: to it on my canceling. All right, well that's it. Good, look,
- 49:06Speaker 1: thank you man. Anything else you guys do you? Are
- 49:09Speaker 1: you watching preseason at all?
- 49:11Speaker 4: I mean I watched a little bit of the first
- 49:12Speaker 4: game and then I'll watch some this weekend. It's one
- 49:15Speaker 4: of those you kind of have it on in the background.
- 49:16Speaker 5: That's about it.
- 49:17Speaker 1: What about you, Mike, I'm still just baseball. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 49:21Speaker 1: I see the Rangers are getting some good TV time lately.
- 49:24Speaker 1: We still suck though, Yeah, no, I know it's all that. Yeah,
- 49:26Speaker 1: all right, Okay, well we'll let you guys go. So
