- 1:33from Hollywood. It's time now for Johnny Dillar, Paul Brennan, Inter Allied
- 1:42Insurance Company Johnny. Oh, hi, Paul, how's the world doing by
- 1:45you? I got troubles Paul, like what like Albert w Winkler. Winkler
- 1:49was he? Maybe? You mean who was he? Well, which is
- 1:53it? Well, that's a trouble, Johnny. We don't know. Huh.
- 1:56Well he's disappeared and with him a hunk of emerald worth exactly one hundred
- 2:00thousand clams. Well, sure, Bob Bailey. In the Exciting Adventures of
- 2:14a Man with the Action Packed Expense Account, America's fabulous freelance insurance investigator as
- 2:19Trulee Johnny Dollar expense account submitted by special Investigator Johnny Dollar to the inter Allied
- 2:38Insurance Company Dawson Building, Hartford, Connecticut, following as an account of expenses
- 2:43incurred during my investigation of the Blooming Blossom Matter expense account. I am one
- 2:52a dollar even taxi from my apartment to the offices of inter Allied, where
- 2:55Paul Brennan wasted no time in getting to the point. Albert Winkler was a
- 2:59partner and a small jewelry firm down in New York, real exclusive type place.
- 3:02Floyd and Winkler. Yeah, that's the outfit. Well, a few
- 3:06days ago they got hold of an emerald. It's called the Green Eye of
- 3:08Calcutter and Johnny the darn things big enough to choke a horse. Okay,
- 3:13Paul, Okay, I don't think you need to go any for it.
- 3:15No. Wait, they planned to put it on an exhibition at the Big
- 3:17International Jewelry Show in Chicago next month, and Winkler took it home to work
- 3:22on it. Oof in short for one hundred thousand, you said, yeah,
- 3:24and Winkler's insured for ten Okay, So who killed him and stole the
- 3:29rock? Listen? Will you go ahead? Was Sunday morning. His partner
- 3:31Blewett, tried to phone him at his apartment. No answer, so Blewett
- 3:36sauned it down to the office, thinking he might be there. But no
- 3:38sign um right, nor of the green eye of cal Cutter. Only a
- 3:43note Winkler left the night before saying he was taking a stone home to work
- 3:46on it. Well, it makes it look as though maybe Winkler listen about
- 3:50that time the phone rang there in the office. It was the police department,
- 3:53also looking for Winkler. Yeah, they'd been called by Winkler's landlord after
- 3:59a chamber made it found his apartment completely ransacked and the old boy missing.
- 4:02Who's working on it for the NYPD? I mean, sergeant Randy Singer eighteenth
- 4:06preestinct homicide offend you as I believe, Yeah, good man, has he
- 4:11come up with anything? Nothing? Well Johnny, sure, Paul. Now
- 4:15now I had them too. Another dollar for a taxi back to my apartment,
- 4:23where I slicked the stubble off my face, showered, dressed, and
- 4:26was about to head for New York. On the phone, range Johnny Dollar,
- 4:33Johnny Dalla that's right? Oh, well who is that? Oh?
- 4:39Yes, of course, mister Daller. I must talk with you, sir.
- 4:43It's important, very important. Well who are you? Eh? This
- 4:46is Wilbert again Worthy Blossom. Yes, and I must see you right away.
- 4:50Well what's this all about, mister Blossom? Did you say that's?
- 4:55How did you know that? Is this some kind of a gag? Certainly
- 4:59is not to think that now I'll be working with you. Oh it's wonderful,
- 5:02just wonderful. What are you talking about? Well, you don't you
- 5:05see? I follow every single one of your cases there, either in the
- 5:09newspapers, were on the radio. Oh, I'm your biggest fan. Is
- 5:13is that all you call to say? Mister Blossom? It is not.
- 5:16I'm calling about the mysterious disappearance of mister Albert week Winkler. You know something
- 5:21about him? Is whereabouts? I certainly do. Where are you, mister
- 5:25Blossom? Are you here at my house in New York? And I'll be
- 5:27waiting for you, sir, goodbye? No wait, give me your address?
- 5:31How could you know where to come of? I hadn't given you that?
- 5:36Having goodbye? The address man? The address, of course, it's
- 5:41eight twenty five East seventy third Street. I had him three nine dollars and
- 5:54twenty cents transportation and incidentals to New York City and eight twenty five E.
- 5:57Seventy third Street. It turned out to be one of New York's famous old
- 6:00brownstone houses, well preserved and wreaking of an era long pest when the city's
- 6:05wealthy and elite had built roll on row of these monuments to a now forgotten
- 6:09financial aristocracy. Oh, come in, mister Dollar, come in here.
- 6:14I'm will bitgin Worthy Blossom, and I cannot tell you how thrilled I am
- 6:18to be working with you on this. I don't know how to describe it,
- 6:24but I'll try the inside of Blossom's home was unbelievable. On a pre
- 6:30Victorian furnishings, heavy velvet drapery, huge lamps and chandeliers, gilt frame mirrors,
- 6:35even an ancient horsehair sofa. It was also filled with dusty piles of
- 6:41newspapers and magazines, hundreds of old books, travel books, mister Dollar and
- 6:45mysteries. Oh I just love mysteries. One corner of the high ceiling living
- 6:49room was piled with old trunks and handbags, an old carpet bag. Even
- 6:54boxes of tools and utensils were stacked about. An ancient victrolla beat up sewing
- 6:58machine. You just never know. I want to s something near old guns
- 7:01and pistols some of the museum pieces, a stringless tennis racker, a pair
- 7:05of rusty handcuffs locked at the base of a floor lamp without a shade.
- 7:10A broken bicycle park it's just in case I ever find a bicycle to go
- 7:13with it, you understand. Is Against one wall stood an old metal cabinet
- 7:16loaded with rusty surgical instruments and a worn out catchers met yet directly opposite it
- 7:21was a corner shelf full of priceless porcelain figurines and rare pieces of china.
- 7:26Some of the old clocks and jewelry on the mantelpiece were collector's items, fine
- 7:30original oil paintings lay among piles of old shoes. All in all, it
- 7:33looked as though the contents of half a dozen pawn shops had been dumped into
- 7:38it at auction's here's mister Dalla. Oh, I just cannot resist an auction
- 7:43seal or a bargain. But what are you going to do with all this
- 7:46stuff? Oh? Just keep it. I like it. I like a
- 7:48lot of things. So I see, including twelve girls, Suspenser's suberlative steel
- 7:56tipped shoelaces pattent at eighteen forty four, A bug, mister Dollar, just
- 8:01like all this fine artwork. Is Yeah, I'm sure some of my friends
- 8:05pampered me a bit though, you know, send me things they pick up
- 8:07and say. Yeah. Now look, mister Blossom, have you told me
- 8:09you know something about Albert W. Wint? Oh? Yes, isn't he
- 8:13well? And think of that magnificent Emerald God disappeared. Yeah, but now
- 8:18you say, and that poor Interlight Insurance Company. Oh my, that's how
- 8:22I knew you would be called on this case. But a hundred thousand dollars
- 8:28and ten thousand dollars on mister Winkler. Well, at least they're off the
- 8:31hook on him until he's proved dead. Ah, And that's where I come
- 8:35in with pof proof. What proof have you seen wink mister dolla? I
- 8:41had? Who is he? Do you understand, of course that I know
- 8:43mister Winkler very well because I've seen him at his office so many times?
- 8:46Okay, go on, Yes, Indeed, such beautiful, beautiful jewelry he
- 8:50had there, and of course he was always trying to buy some of the
- 8:54things out. What you say you've seen him where? Well, satur the
- 8:56Ey'd planned for a couple of old friends to with hinder Real auction that was
- 9:01a Canyon City and Metropolitan Railroad. Winkley was there at the auction sale.
- 9:05Oh yes, did you speak to him? Well? Why not? You
- 9:09said you know him? Well, I didn't go to the auction. I
- 9:11wasn't feeling very well that day. I had at a little car that was
- 9:18kind of like that. Then how do you know he was there? My
- 9:20friends went, and at least they talked about going, and I'm sure they
- 9:24did too, because they sent me something from and what do you suppose it
- 9:26was? I don't know, I don't care. And now look here you
- 9:28got it. It was the very thing that has solved this whole case for
- 9:33you. What and think of it? This dull, drab, dreary life
- 9:37of mine has suddenly become why. It's almost like a mystery story, isn't
- 9:41it? Adventure? And look, mister Blossom and being a detective, I'm
- 9:48working with my idol, the famous Johnny Dye. Oh mister Blossom, what
- 9:56did they send you that? Oh? Yes, of course here here it
- 10:03is. It's right here between the erector set and the golf clubs, this
- 10:09old trunk. That's right, great Scott, you think you do? First?
- 10:16Of course I thought of calling the police, but knowing all about you,
- 10:20the Blossom, let me see that. Excuse me. There are a
- 10:24lot of crumpled newspapers on top there I see, as old as the trunk.
- 10:33Good lord, it it isn't pretty. Sergeant Randy Singer homicide Randy Johnny
- 10:52Dollar gets somebody over the way twenty five E seventy third Street right away with
- 10:56your body of Albert Winkler. Randy got there and a matter of minutes got
- 11:00the same story from Blossom that I had. Then called for the lab crew
- 11:03to come and take over now who delivered this trunk, mister Blossom? But
- 11:07it was just just a delivery man. And you describe hi? Would you
- 11:11know him with your song? Yeah? Well he was big and strong.
- 11:13It was very distinguishing features scars or a limp or a beard or I told
- 11:18you, Johnny, he was big and strong. Well, I would say
- 11:20he was somewhere between twenty five and yeah fifty, Yes, I'm sure.
- 11:28Well that's a lot of help. Yeah, you better have those thick spectacles.
- 11:31Shame. But he was big. Yes, we know I'm strong.
- 11:35What about his truck? Oh, I didn't see that he left it outside?
- 11:37No, Now, look these friends of yours who did attend the auction?
- 11:41Who were they? Oh? Yes, now the investigation proceeds, Now
- 11:46the excitement? Were they? Mister Blossom? Oh well, there's a Randoms
- 11:54and christ Randy Singer took down the names of Blossom's three auction minded friends,
- 12:03laugh, drew a ride. Randy took off to dig up Blossom's friends,
- 12:07and I took a cab that signed him four eighty cents to the apartment of
- 12:11Elwood blew At, Winkler's partner in the jewelry business. Lou had lived alone
- 12:15in a modest but tastes mely furnished five or six rooms on East fifty second
- 12:18Street. Of course, mister Dollar, I'll be glad to help you all
- 12:22I can. Albert's death has been a terrible blow. Yes, well tell
- 12:26me this phase. Yes, did mister Winkler make a habit of taking valuable
- 12:28pieces of jewelry to his residence? Yes, Albert often took pieces home with
- 12:33him to work on them, clean, polish and so on. Wasn't that
- 12:35a rather dangerous practice, shankly, I always thought so, But he felt
- 12:39there was far more chance of being robbed if he were alone at the office
- 12:43than that is flat, where he wouldn't be expected to have anything of great
- 12:46value. Well, who was seeing the green eye of cal cut beside you
- 12:50and mister Winkler. I'm not sure, of course, almost anyone would have
- 12:52been able to recognize it because of the publicity and pictures when you brought it
- 12:56over here. Yes, come to think of it, Blossom and the kid
- 13:00he'd been much impressed with him, Wilburt Blossom. Yeah, you know,
- 13:05he's been in the office many times. He and Albert were always bickering over
- 13:09pieces that either recurring it well, it was really something of a joke.
- 13:13Albert always wanted some of Blossom's heirloom pieces, and Blossom wanted some of the
- 13:18finer things we had. Did he ever buy never? He always wanted us
- 13:22to put them up at auction or at a bargain price. Hardly our way
- 13:24of doing things. Needless to say, when did you last see Blossom?
- 13:28My last Friday? I was busy with an important client, and from the
- 13:33back room where Albert worked, I remember hearing Blossom insist that Albert show him
- 13:37the Emerald or did he I don't know. The silly argument got so noisy
- 13:41that I closed the door on them. Hm. Oh not wait, certainly
- 13:48you aren't thinking that, Perhaps, Wilbert, I'm not quite certain of what
- 13:50I'm thinking. Mister Bluett had five cents phone caller Rady Singer, other thing
- 14:00Johnny, one of the three names on Blossom's list is in Europe. The
- 14:03other two did go to the Railroad auction, but purchase nothing. Mandy,
- 14:05do a couple of things for me with you, like what phone whoever is
- 14:09stationed at Winkler's place that I want to look it over? Sure everything is
- 14:13just as it was, including the poker that would use to kill him.
- 14:16Also, I want to copy the picture of the trunk your lab boys took
- 14:18him the list of Blossom's friend. I'll have him waiting for you and post
- 14:20a man at Blossom's place. Keep an eye on him, yes, right
- 14:24away, Johnny, Have you learned something? No? No, just uh
- 14:28well, just for his protection, say, I'll talk to you later.
- 14:30Yeah, but bless, yeah less. Maybe I hadn't given enough thought to
- 14:45the strange little character right why the trunk with Winkler's body had been at his
- 14:48place? But if he were involved, why call me in? Cover up
- 14:54possibility? But Wilbert Blossom kill a man? Yeah, maybe he could,
- 15:01Maybe he did. I'd better see him as soon as I get through with
- 15:05the inspection on Winkley's apartment. Mister, Oh hi, I did Sergeant Singer
- 15:11call and tell you that he's on the ford here in the Winkler apartment now
- 15:13wants to talk to you, He says, it's very urgent, sir,
- 15:16Okay, thanks Johnny Dollar. Johnny, how did you know the man I
- 15:22sent to cover Bossom's house for you got there too late? What? Whoever
- 15:24got in and attacked the poor old code got away? Attacked Blossom. Yeah,
- 15:30I really did a job, Johnny. Okay, Randy, thanks Act
- 15:52two of yours, truly, Johnny Dollar, in just a moment. Democracy,
- 15:58As everyone knows, democracy means many things self rule of the people,
- 16:03a higher standard of living, freedom of speech, press and religion, rights
- 16:08and privileges, liberty. But the most vital promise of democracy is mankind's right
- 16:15to dignity. For it is through the dignity of man that democracy has given
- 16:19mankind its greatest legacy of freedom. Now Act two of yours, truly,
- 16:25Johnny Dollar, and the Blooming Blossom matter. Expense account out of six two
- 16:37dollars and a quarter for a fast taxi ride to eighteenth Precinct Police headquarters.
- 16:40All right, as soon as I got your call, Johnny, I sent
- 16:42a uniform man over to Blossom's house. From the way you talked, I
- 16:45thought maybe you suspected him. Yeah, Randy, I'm afraid I didn't.
- 16:48The boy how wrong can you be? Anyhow, when he got there,
- 16:52he found the front door open and Blossom lying in the dark hallway. Where's
- 16:55Blossom now? Hospital? But he's okay, just bruised up a bit,
- 16:57letting him out finger prints, anything to go on? Labs checking on a
- 17:02prince right now, let me know, Yeah, anything else? Nope.
- 17:07So now let's find out who tried to put Blossom out of the way,
- 17:10and we'll have the guy who killed Winkler and stole one hundred thousand worth of
- 17:14Emerald, then shipped Winkler's body to Blossom. Oh, by the way,
- 17:18here's the picture of the trunk he asked for and the three names Blossom gave
- 17:22me, Harrison, Norton, and Scattered Day. What are you gonna do
- 17:25with him? Randy? Suppose the man who attacked Blossom is the one who
- 17:30did all the rest. You got a better suppose? Well, look,
- 17:33Brandy, whoever wielded that poker on Winkler couldn't have been very strong. I
- 17:37really have to wallop would have bented out of shape. And the lab agrees
- 17:41with you. But of course it didn't take much of a blow to finish
- 17:42of a full Winkler. He didn't weigh much over one hundred pounds, you
- 17:45know, Yeah, any strong arm could have finished him off easily and without
- 17:49messing up the whole apartment. And don't forget whoever did him and also put
- 17:53him in the trunk and delivered it to Blossom's house. But why yeah,
- 17:57yeah, and where's the emerald. That's what you should be worried about.
- 18:00One hundred grand worth of worry for your insurance company. Now, what are
- 18:04you going to do with that picture of the drunk and the list of Blossom's
- 18:07friends? Oh yeah, sure, I'll see you later. It am seven
- 18:17five dollars and a half for a taxi at the warehouse of the Canyon City
- 18:19of Metropolitan Railroad over in Jersey. There I finally managed to track down a
- 18:22man who knew something about their occasional auction sales of unclean baggage and stuff in
- 18:27insurance investigator. That's sorry, mister McKenny, one of those boys with a
- 18:32fancy expense County. Eh, that's a matter of Oknyon look, you had
- 18:34an auction sale here last Saturday, didn't you. That's right, handled it
- 18:37yourself. Want to know something about the somethingways sold off exactly? And I
- 18:42am your man. Always remember all about every single item, Mizelle, and
- 18:47who bought it, and all about him. That's fine, because I want
- 18:51to know if any of the names on this list brought from you on Saturday.
- 18:56Randolph Harrison, remember the name of Harrison by anything. No, how
- 19:00about Perceval Wentworth, scatter Day, Ellsworth Norton. You sure, mister mckennie,
- 19:06I'm sure. How uh? How about Blossom? That imagine me?
- 19:11Yes, Wilbert Blossom. Well, no, sure, nope, never heard
- 19:17of them. And like I told you, I never forget the stuff I
- 19:19seller the fellows, I sell her too white. This picture of a trunk.
- 19:23Have you ever seen this trunk? Will? Yeah? Did you sell
- 19:27this trunk on Saturday? His idea to home? Come on, man,
- 19:30it's important, well not real early in the sale, yeah, before most
- 19:36people got here. Ye bought this trunk and had its own to his apartment
- 19:40in New York. And his name, well it was a funny kind of
- 19:44name. Blinky or winky or no Winkler, Winkler, that was it.
- 19:48Albert Winkler. Ate two dollars two drinks for myself at the nearest bar.
- 19:56But they didn't have to kill my feeling of Out of frustration, I had
- 20:00him nine to five fifty taxi back to eighteenth Precinct headquarters in New York for
- 20:03want of a better place to go. It's about time he got here,
- 20:07Johnny. Oh, we matched up the Prince we found after Blossom was a
- 20:10tank. You know who made them? Yeah, here's his card, Carlo
- 20:15Bernisconi, and he reckoned a couple of a dozen arrests, only one conviction,
- 20:18anything to do with jewelry better accessory to a hijack operation a couple of
- 20:22years ago. He drove the truck. Hey, got a mugshot of him.
- 20:26We got him downstairs. Come on, I'll take you down, Randie.
- 20:30What's he look like? I could expect the truck driver to look big,
- 20:33husky brute. Has he admitted anything? All? The threat of a
- 20:36murder charge made him talk, all right, but none of it makes any
- 20:38sense? Of course it does. But he's our boil, all right.
- 20:41He killed Winkler, beat up Blossom. I thought your lab decided whoever killed
- 20:45Winkler was a small fellaw. Yeah, so the theory about the same man
- 20:48killing Winkler and beating up Blossom doesn't work. But Johnny, Holy, come
- 20:53on down. Let's talk to this Bernesscone after I make a phone call too,
- 20:59well, get me a man named McKenny. Kenyon City, a metropolitan
- 21:02railroad warehouse over in Jersey. Make it fast for yes, sir, Hey,
- 21:06you've been over there Johnny just before I got here, you find out
- 21:08anything? No, but I'm going to now, like what Randy, For
- 21:12the first time, this whole thing is beginning to make sense. Here's your
- 21:15buddy, mister mckennie. That's me, missus Johnny Dollar. Remember, sure
- 21:21do. I've been reading in the papers and you left here about that body
- 21:25found the trunk over there in New York. Yeah, well look in that
- 21:27scene is that same trunk? You know what you're asking about? Yes?
- 21:30Now, you told me that trunk was bought by a man who gave his
- 21:33name as Winkler. That's right. Do you remember what he looked like?
- 21:37Sure do? Why I can give it to you as accurat as if it
- 21:40was in the police file. Well, I probably fort nine, maybe nine
- 21:45to a half. Go on, wait, between one and fifty five and
- 21:48fifty eight. You see, when I was young and I worked with the
- 21:52Carnie Show, gets weight and height. If I didn't get it right,
- 21:53yeah, okay, okay, Now how about the color of the eyes when
- 21:56I knowed him? Because of the way he's whited threw them cold fashion steal
- 22:02glasses. Thanks Mac, I'm sending you a ten spot in the next mail.
- 22:04Will now well, Johnny, come on, Randy, let's go down
- 22:08and see this. Bernisconi. You find something out new? Yeah, and
- 22:11I don't like it. I don't like I look, Bernisconi, you're in
- 22:25plenty of trouble for the assault and Blossom maybe even more. But I'm the
- 22:29man who can save you from a murder rap if you'll answer a couple of
- 22:32questions. Sure, I told the car right, all right? Did you
- 22:36pick up and deliver a trunk yesterday morning? Sure? I told him for
- 22:38a guy named Wickler. You got the trunk from Winkling? Sure, at
- 22:41his apartment on Easy What did he look like? How? Tall? Maybe
- 22:45five eight chen Johnny? Light build or heavy or what i'd say a medium?
- 22:52Maybe one hundred and fifty pounds Johnny? I look, mister, wait
- 22:55a minute, you look. Did you deliver that trunk to a man named
- 22:57Blossom? Sure? Eight twenty five e seventy thirds? What did he look
- 23:02like? Them? I never seen? I know it's he allered from a
- 23:04window that the door was open and I should put the trunk in the living
- 23:07room. What a junk house. But you must have seen him later when
- 23:11he came back and assaulted him. It was night then when he come to
- 23:14the door, I just slugged him and let him lay there. Then I
- 23:17went inside where the lights was on, to look for well, look for
- 23:21the big rock I'd read about in the paper. Then I heard a prowl
- 23:23car coming, so I beat it. Trunk wasn't there anyway? Okay,
- 23:27bernasconey, see you later, ready, not just a minute? Hey,
- 23:30and what about me? He said it. I'm ten ninety cents taxi the
- 23:40wilburd Blossoms old brown stone house on he seventy third. Come in, Come
- 23:45in, Johnny. Thanks mister Bossom, all recovered from your beating, of
- 23:52course, I am here. Sit down, Sit down. You You said
- 23:56you wanted to help me on this case. Oh yes, indeed, why
- 24:00this chance to work with a man I consider the finest insurance investigator in the
- 24:03world. Yeah, that's why I called you when I got the trunk with
- 24:07mister Winkler's body, And mister Blossom, why don't you told my drab dull
- 24:10life. I wanted to be a detective and investigated, and this was my
- 24:15chance, my chance tell the truth? Did you say, mister Blossom,
- 24:22listen to some facts for a minute and see what conclusions you draw. From
- 24:25the ooh deductions like a detector to begin with. This house of yours so
- 24:30full of well junk, I told you, Johnny, I like things.
- 24:34I like things, but it also has a lot of fine painting, sculpture,
- 24:37china, jewey. Oh. I like all sorts of things, especially
- 24:41if they're fine and rare and bargains like the Green Eye of Calcutta. Oh,
- 24:49the most beautiful emerald in the world. And I would conclude that you'd
- 24:53do just about anything to have that stone, Yes, said Johnny. I'd
- 24:59reach the same conclusion. Okay, Now, when Albert Winkler and the Emerald
- 25:06disappeared, it was in the papers. The Inner Allied had written policies on
- 25:08them. Conclusion is, I would deduce that you would be called in.
- 25:12Wouldn't it be smart? Then? If the killer was afraid I'd eventually get
- 25:15around to him anyway. Wouldn't it be smart for him to call me in
- 25:18and offer to help me as a cover up for what he'd done. Yes,
- 25:26or at least he'd think it would. Oh, yes, I guess
- 25:33he thought it would. Another thing, mister boss, Oh what is it?
- 25:37Johnny? The body was packed in the trunk with old newspapers, like
- 25:41these you keep piled around. Oh, yes, and I would do obvious
- 25:47that both Randy Singer and I overlooked them completely. Where there's so many things
- 25:51piled around here, you couldn't be expected, Johnny, Yeah, what really
- 26:00made you decide that? Well? I'd like to know, all right.
- 26:07Albert Winkler was a fray little old man, about four eleven, not much
- 26:11over one hundred pounds. Yes, who are but the man who bought the
- 26:15trunk and had it sent to Winkler's apartment, who gave his name as Winkler.
- 26:18That man was about five nine, one hundred and fifty five pounds,
- 26:23and he wore a thick, old fashioned steel rim glasses. Johnny, I
- 26:27can't see without them. Then there's the truck driver. The man who ordered
- 26:33the trunk delivered to this house gave his name as Winkler too, But Winkler
- 26:37was dead by then, dead from a blow inflicted not by some big bruising
- 26:41but by somebody of say your bill. Well, that awful truck driver who
- 26:47thought the Emerald would be in the trunk and came here to steal it,
- 26:49and who beat me up? I suppose you want the emerald? Yeah?
- 27:00H M, here Johnny, I kept it in this little coffee pot that
- 27:08I picked up in an auction seal. Oh isn't a beautiful stone? Oh?
- 27:18If only mister Winkley would have sold it, had a bargain in it,
- 27:22then none of this would have happened. Well, I guess we gotta
- 27:27going on. It's such a silly thing, me trying to act like a
- 27:34detective. I guess I didn't even make a very good killer, did I?
- 27:47Why? Just this silver powering passion to have things? Maybe, or
- 27:53maybe it was just a reaction, a last desperate attempt to some way,
- 27:59anyway break from a lifetime of lonely, dull, drab idols. I don't
- 28:03know, but for some crazy reason, I feel sorry for the funny little
- 28:08low character who turned killer. Expense account total including incidentals and fairback to Hartford's
- 28:15sixty one dollars and fifty five cents. Yours, truly, Johnny Dollar.
- 28:32Now here is our star to tell you about next week story next week.
- 28:36A case so simple, so easy, so obvious, that it proves almost
- 28:41impossible to solve. Joy us, won't you? Yours truly? Johnny Dell,
- 29:00Yours truly, Johnny Dollar, starring Bob Bailey originates in Hollywood. It
- 29:06is produced and directed by Jack Johnstone, who also wrote tonight's story. Heard
- 29:11in our cast were Howard mcneer, Herb Ellis, Herb Bigron, Junius Matthews,
- 29:15Herb Butterfield, Frank Gersell, and Johnny Jacobs. Musical supervision is by
- 29:21Jerry Goldsmith. Be sure to join us next week, same time and station,
- 29:26or another exciting story of yours, truly Johnny Dollar dan coverly speaking,
- 29:33Johnny Dollar has come to you through the worldwide facilities of the United States Armed
- 29:37Forces Radio and Television Servants. Welcome back. I was not surprised that Blossom
- 31:11was the murder or you know that he was just really a bit scarily obsessive.
- 31:18Still, it was a good program, but just for the fine performance
- 31:22Howard mcneer and Bob Bailey given it and I also have to give credit to
- 31:27the show for at least giving us a few moments of doubt in this episode.
- 31:33And according to the Great Guide of the Who Is Johnny Dollar Matter,
- 31:40this is the first time that Johnny's cases are referenced as being published and even
- 31:45referenced as being on the radio, which was not heard too often in the
- 31:51Golden age of radio. I think it may may have been in some episodes
- 31:55of the Adventures of Sam Spade, though many of the surviving episodes ares and
- 32:00off hair recordings, so whether that it went on the air, who knows
- 32:05well. We turn now to listener comments and feedback from Jenny Klam, who
- 32:13writes on iTunes. I grew up on a military base in Germany between sixty
- 32:17three and sixty eight. It doesn't seem that long ago, but it was
- 32:22the only TV was in German and it signed off at two am with just
- 32:25two channels. I learned to speak German watching a dub Star Trek and The
- 32:30Avengers. Oh what amma peel? And are effects on a young man's raging
- 32:34hormones? Anyway? My alternative was AFN, the Armed Forces Radio Network.
- 32:39It wasn't an old time radio to me, it was what I regularly listened
- 32:44to. It's like I grew up in my father's generation. My favorite show
- 32:47was Johnny Doller. I was twelve years old and was transfixed by the stories
- 32:52and styles of Bailey. Currently I work as a voiceover artist and tribute my
- 32:57style to what I learned listening to the great actors of yesterday. In terms
- 33:01of the host's performance, it took him getting used to but what he lacks
- 33:05in style more is more than made up in his knowledge and enthusiasm. He's
- 33:09great and if he got a slightly better microphone and used a windscreen that would
- 33:14make for a better presentation. Just a suggestion, and please take it for
- 33:17that for what it is, just a bit of advice from a fan.
- 33:21Thanks well, I appreciate your comments and your longtime enjoyment a Johnny dawler.
- 33:25And also about getting a new microphone, that's something we tried around Christmas time
- 33:35and then after the listener support campaign, after the microphone I got for Christmas
- 33:40failed, And yeah, I'm going to try again because this one is a
- 33:46bit old, but I wanted to get a nice one, so maybe we'll
- 33:51try once again spend the wheel, roll the dice on a new microphone after
- 33:59this year's listener support campaign. That will do it for now. We will
- 34:04be back tomorrow with Police Headquarters and join us next Friday for another episode of
- 34:08Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar. In the meantime, send your comments to Box
- 34:14thirteen at Great Detectives dot net and give us a call off if you'd like
- 34:16to leave us a voicemail to A eight nine nine one four seven eight three
- 34:21but from Boise, Idaho. This is your host, Adam Grahamson and off.
