- 0:05Speaker 1: It is.
- 0:06Speaker 2: It is La La Kent, fresh off of the week
- 0:11Speaker 2: long I guess right. Banner Pump Rules airs on Wednesdays.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Yes, So this is where it.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Jumps a little tricky because I want to give you
- 0:20Speaker 2: guys the recap in real time, but I can't fill
- 0:24Speaker 2: you in on episodes that are airing tonight when they
- 0:27Speaker 2: haven't aired head because that means that I get an
- 0:31Speaker 2: email from Bravo. So what we're gonna start doing is
- 0:33Speaker 2: I'm gonna recap last week's episode to just kind of
- 0:38Speaker 2: get you in the mood for tonight. It's kind of
- 0:41Speaker 2: like a little for play, which is always the most fun.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Always the most fun.
- 0:45Speaker 4: And also this is exciting because if you have questions
- 0:48Speaker 4: about the episode, now, you basically have a week or
- 0:53Speaker 4: like let's say, five to six days to DM the
- 0:56Speaker 4: podcast and just sort of, like I said, we get
- 0:59Speaker 4: a lot of dms, So so the first thing you
- 1:02Speaker 4: put in the DM is just like VPR question, and
- 1:05Speaker 4: then I'll be able to sort through and see which
- 1:08Speaker 4: ones have to do with the episode.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Did you watch?
- 1:10Speaker 4: Just obviously Okay, you guys, I have to say, can
- 1:13Speaker 4: I give my honest opinion?
- 1:15Speaker 1: Always?
- 1:15Speaker 4: Okay, the first few minutes. I was like, huh, okay,
- 1:20Speaker 4: we're setting it up. This is cool, Like I'm not
- 1:24Speaker 4: overly stimulated. But again it's just like we're setting it up.
- 1:27Speaker 3: Literally. I think it was like by minute seven.
- 1:31Speaker 1: Hooked, hooked, hooked.
- 1:33Speaker 4: I know, loved it, loved the looks. You've never looked
- 1:37Speaker 4: better in my opinion, Thank you. Stunning, stunning, stunning. Everyone
- 1:42Speaker 4: looked so chic and just like it seems like everyone's
- 1:45Speaker 4: such an individual and they like even though some people
- 1:48Speaker 4: are struggling with their identity, like overall, it seems like
- 1:51Speaker 4: everyone is like strong and knows themselves and like this
- 1:54Speaker 4: is what I'm doing.
- 1:55Speaker 2: And I love that you get that from the first episode,
- 1:58Speaker 2: because as the season goes on, you see like, oh shit,
- 2:03Speaker 2: some of these folks haven't found themselves, Like they've really
- 2:06Speaker 2: lost their fucking minds. Someone call they mama.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Well.
- 2:11Speaker 4: I saw the teaser for I think next episode or
- 2:13Speaker 4: at least the season, and I got a hint of like,
- 2:16Speaker 4: oh okay, but it feels so exciting. I'm I want
- 2:20Speaker 4: to get all of your thoughts on it, but I
- 2:23Speaker 4: do want to ask because again, we've gotten so many
- 2:25Speaker 4: dms and just to get ahead of these questions, where
- 2:28Speaker 4: is the the like lavender color pajama set.
- 2:32Speaker 2: From It's by Shady Lady. Okay, the one with the dogs,
- 2:36Speaker 2: you guys, Yeah, with the blinged out Doberman's.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Yes.
- 2:39Speaker 2: I found it at Nordstrum and I was obsessed with
- 2:42Speaker 2: it and now I just go on and buy Like,
- 2:45Speaker 2: I have a ton of their pajamas that are basically
- 2:48Speaker 2: the same style, but like one has one hundred dollars
- 2:50Speaker 2: bills all over it and I wear them out. Yeah,
- 2:54Speaker 2: Like they're too cute to just be sleeping in.
- 2:56Speaker 1: No, they're so cute, right.
- 2:58Speaker 4: I want to get your thoughts because I also watch
- 3:00Speaker 4: watch What Happens Live and I.
- 3:01Speaker 1: Got a fucking snooze. God.
- 3:06Speaker 2: Well, you know Katie and I were supposed to do
- 3:07Speaker 2: that first. I know we weren't getting along, so we
- 3:11Speaker 2: both were like.
- 3:12Speaker 3: No, So let me hear your thoughts again.
- 3:17Speaker 4: I know it's been a week, and I did hear
- 3:22Speaker 4: that it was one of like the most viewed television shows.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Out of one hundred and fifty cable shows. We were
- 3:30Speaker 2: number eight and the only thing above us was news
- 3:36Speaker 2: and sports. That's so kind, mostly basketball.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Congrats to all of you.
- 3:40Speaker 2: I think we killed it. Now watching it again, I
- 3:44Speaker 2: got so before the episode aired. I watched last year's
- 3:48Speaker 2: reunion and I got so fucking triggered by it, just
- 3:51Speaker 2: seeing that I'm in such a different place and but
- 3:54Speaker 2: also like it takes you back to the very beginning
- 3:57Speaker 2: of everything that had happened, and I started like going
- 4:00Speaker 2: into a panic, and I had to remind myself, You're
- 4:02Speaker 2: not there anymore, babe, You're not there. Let this be
- 4:05Speaker 2: a reminder that you you were swimming.
- 4:10Speaker 1: You swim, bitch, We swim in you know.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yes, Like to see how far I've come in in
- 4:18Speaker 2: a year is like very I hope that it's inspiring
- 4:22Speaker 2: for other people to know that, like we all possess
- 4:25Speaker 2: that strength. Okay, let's move on to the episode. I
- 4:29Speaker 2: was hooked the second that Raquel and Peter started talking
- 4:33Speaker 2: because that relationship or whatever the fuck it is, reminds me.
- 4:39Speaker 1: I'm not into drugs.
- 4:40Speaker 2: I've never done drugs, but it reminds me of like
- 4:41Speaker 2: maybe taking a hit of something that like slows you down.
- 4:45Speaker 3: Whooah, not true, Wait, elaborate on this.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I just feel like when I watched them, I took
- 4:58Speaker 2: a hit of something.
- 4:59Speaker 1: Yeah, like really slows me down.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Mentally, that's a great comparison, unshid like it was so cringey,
- 5:09Speaker 2: yeah and amazing. This is so fun because I feel
- 5:13Speaker 2: like I'm a viewer but also a part of it.
- 5:16Speaker 2: But I'm always gonna have my own back. So if
- 5:17Speaker 2: you're thinking that I'm gonna let actually no, I am gonna.
- 5:20Speaker 2: When I need to throw shade at myself, I definitely will.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Because there were cringe moments anyway, Raquel and Peter awkward, awesome,
- 5:28Speaker 2: fucking loved it. Also a strange moment Raquel and Ali
- 5:33Speaker 2: talking that.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Was also very weird.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I felt like Ali was kind of trying to like
- 5:39Speaker 2: play herself down, like yeah, yeah. It was like, can
- 5:43Speaker 2: we elevate this conversation like just a little bit, Raquel,
- 5:47Speaker 2: good for you?
- 5:49Speaker 1: Yes, girl.
- 5:49Speaker 2: I was like, remind me to never have you as
- 5:51Speaker 2: my high bitch, like crawl in a hole?
- 5:56Speaker 1: Was that?
- 5:57Speaker 4: Actually, this brings me to a question. Was that the
- 6:00Speaker 4: first time you had ever met Ali?
- 6:02Speaker 2: I had met her before, but it was at a
- 6:05Speaker 2: party and it was very like loud and chaotic, so
- 6:09Speaker 2: I briefly said hi to her. This was like the
- 6:12Speaker 2: first time that I met her and sat down and
- 6:14Speaker 2: talked to her. And what drives me so crazy, which
- 6:18Speaker 2: I also love about vander pump Roles. I had said
- 6:22Speaker 2: to someone before I met Ali ever, that James loves
- 6:25Speaker 2: a thin lipped bitch. All right, Raquel was, I was
- 6:29Speaker 2: Ali is and then I see her by the way.
- 6:32Speaker 2: The person I said this to was like, that's so funny.
- 6:34Speaker 2: I'm gonna put that in her interview. Bye.
- 6:37Speaker 4: Okay, So you said this before you ever met Ali.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Right, but they played it. I was like, I was
- 6:42Speaker 1: some caddy bitch.
- 6:43Speaker 2: So at the premiere party, I was like, er uh, Ali,
- 6:46Speaker 2: I really hope I didn't offend you like she was like,
- 6:48Speaker 2: I thought it was really really fucking funny. I go, okay,
- 6:51Speaker 2: I just want you to know, like if you go
- 6:53Speaker 2: into interviews and you got to throw shade at me,
- 6:55Speaker 2: like I got it, it's easy to do do your thing.
- 6:59Speaker 2: Like I felt bad because I'm sitting there saying I
- 7:01Speaker 2: was actually shocked. I'm like, wow, this bitch actually has
- 7:04Speaker 2: like some full fucking list.
- 7:08Speaker 3: I thought it was funny.
- 7:09Speaker 2: I usually never pull that card. Yeah, oh okay, I'm like, no,
- 7:13Speaker 2: this is what happened.
- 7:14Speaker 3: But you had never met Okay, I got it, and
- 7:16Speaker 3: I never met her.
- 7:17Speaker 2: And I was very impressed by her big lips, like,
- 7:21Speaker 2: holy shit, Lucky. Where I was cringing for myself is
- 7:27Speaker 2: and I know this is what I was talking about
- 7:29Speaker 2: before the season aired, is I think a lot of
- 7:33Speaker 2: my past behavior and things that I have said are
- 7:36Speaker 2: going to clash with who I am now. That scene
- 7:41Speaker 2: of me with Stoscy talking about role playing was one
- 7:47Speaker 2: of the most cringey moments I've ever seen of myself.
- 7:51Speaker 2: I couldn't even watch it. I fast forwarded through that
- 7:54Speaker 2: part because Number One, what an ignorant thing to say
- 7:59Speaker 2: when women out here who have been a part of
- 8:03Speaker 2: things like that and it has scarred them for life.
- 8:06Speaker 2: So for me to make such a stupid comment like
- 8:10Speaker 2: that or talk about things like that, in my mind
- 8:12Speaker 2: back then, it's like if your husband's a guynecologist and
- 8:15Speaker 2: you're like, ooh, inspect my vagina, you.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Know, like role playing.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I just I never in a million years thought that
- 8:22Speaker 2: I would come in contact with someone like my ex.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I thought I watched those people on twenty twenty and
- 8:27Speaker 2: it was like, those are just people you see on TV.
- 8:30Speaker 2: They're not people that you actually ever meet, Right, So
- 8:34Speaker 2: That's where I'm gonna struggle this season is watching flashbacks
- 8:37Speaker 2: because I know that editors will have a heyday, but
- 8:41Speaker 2: I just I go back into like, Wow, you stupid,
- 8:44Speaker 2: stupid girl.
- 8:46Speaker 3: I hear you.
- 8:47Speaker 4: I wish you didn't because, like we've talked about a
- 8:49Speaker 4: million times before on this podcast, everybody grows, everybody changes.
- 8:54Speaker 4: Like you said, you don't you barely even know the
- 8:56Speaker 4: mindset of that person in that moment in that scene,
- 8:59Speaker 4: you're like, who is that?
- 9:00Speaker 3: What is she even saying? What's going on?
- 9:03Speaker 4: So I hope that you don't that it doesn't like
- 9:07Speaker 4: get you down when you see stuff like that, But
- 9:09Speaker 4: I totally understand what you're saying, and that is going
- 9:11Speaker 4: to be hard for you to see.
- 9:13Speaker 2: I will be fast forwarding through those like I don't
- 9:15Speaker 2: need anyone to remind me. I know the things I've
- 9:17Speaker 2: said and done in my past that I'm not proud of,
- 9:20Speaker 2: and I always say like, I don't live in regret
- 9:22Speaker 2: because that's how I get to where I am now. Yes,
- 9:25Speaker 2: that's how I feel, But I don't need to relive
- 9:27Speaker 2: the moments right at all.
- 9:28Speaker 1: You don't need to take me back. I don't want
- 9:30Speaker 1: to watch.
- 9:35Speaker 4: So I did see some things that Tom stand the
- 9:39Speaker 4: ball and Tom Schwartz said that I was actually really
- 9:43Speaker 4: taken aback by and surprised by and like disgusted by.
- 9:48Speaker 2: I'm just gonna I think you're not the only one.
- 9:50Speaker 2: I think a lot of people felt that same way
- 9:52Speaker 2: Tom Schwartz. I've just gone to the point with him
- 9:55Speaker 2: where it's like I know that, Like you're comfortable not
- 9:58Speaker 2: standing for shit. That's just who you are, you know, Yes,
- 10:02Speaker 2: even I'll watch what happens like He's like, no regrets.
- 10:04Speaker 2: I regret hurting Katie's feelings, but I don't regret the act,
- 10:07Speaker 2: and it's like, make up your goddamn mind.
- 10:10Speaker 4: That's what pushed it over for me, because there was
- 10:12Speaker 4: something where I watched the episode and I had to
- 10:14Speaker 4: say like, Okay, this was at a certain time when
- 10:16Speaker 4: maybe everyone didn't know everything, or some things hadn't come
- 10:20Speaker 4: out yet, whatever, but it was after and watch what
- 10:22Speaker 4: Happens live certain things that Schwartz said where I was like, oh.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Well that's live, that's in real time.
- 10:27Speaker 3: That's why I was like ooh, I ooh.
- 10:30Speaker 2: We're like a lot of allegations and shit beyond where
- 10:33Speaker 2: we were back then. And keep in mind, like I
- 10:36Speaker 2: said to him in scene, I would never have anyone
- 10:39Speaker 2: pick a side over some cheating, all right, Like, I'm
- 10:43Speaker 2: a grown ass woman. I can get over that. What
- 10:47Speaker 2: I have been dealing with. We can all read between
- 10:51Speaker 2: the lines on why I am where I am now. Okay,
- 10:54Speaker 2: So I've made it very clear this is where I stand.
- 10:58Speaker 2: And for you to say that I'm bringing my friends
- 11:01Speaker 2: together on a rooftop, I think of them all as family.
- 11:07Speaker 2: That was a safe place me saying I don't want
- 11:09Speaker 2: to have to explain this a million different times because
- 11:12Speaker 2: I'm broken.
- 11:15Speaker 1: You know, Jess, you were there.
- 11:17Speaker 2: I was broken and needing to crawl into the fetal
- 11:22Speaker 2: position and couldn't knew that I was going into the.
- 11:26Speaker 1: Fight of my life for my child's life.
- 11:30Speaker 2: So when I called you on to the rooftop, that
- 11:32Speaker 2: was anything but an ego.
- 11:34Speaker 1: That was me.
- 11:35Speaker 2: I'm my most humbled state of saying you guys have
- 11:39Speaker 2: been there for me through a lot of shit and
- 11:42Speaker 2: this is where I'm at and I need you. It
- 11:45Speaker 2: was no more complex than that and him saying I'm
- 11:47Speaker 2: going through a divorce, like my heart breaks for my friends, right,
- 11:52Speaker 2: I don't ever want to see that happen. But for
- 11:55Speaker 2: you to say I'm dealing with my own shit, I
- 11:57Speaker 2: can't care about yours. Well, guess what, bitch with my
- 12:00Speaker 2: own shit, so I don't give a fuck about yours.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Yeah, but I don't see that from you either. I'm
- 12:05Speaker 3: sitting here and you.
- 12:06Speaker 1: Know it gets me high by that.
- 12:08Speaker 2: If you're gonna say that you're going through your own
- 12:10Speaker 2: shit so you can't care about mine, well, then guess what.
- 12:13Speaker 1: I can't give a fuck about yours.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Because if we really want to play dirty welcome to America,
- 12:17Speaker 2: a lot of people get divorced if we want to
- 12:20Speaker 2: play dirty, Welcome to my life. My dad died, all right,
- 12:24Speaker 2: I still I want to be there for you, but
- 12:27Speaker 2: if you're gonna throw jabs, So that's where I was
- 12:29Speaker 2: at in the moment. Granted, Schwortzy and I have come
- 12:31Speaker 2: a very long way. So I want to remind everyone
- 12:35Speaker 2: that when I'm talking about this stuff, I want I'm
- 12:38Speaker 2: directing it strictly to how I felt about the episode
- 12:41Speaker 2: in that time of filming.
- 12:43Speaker 4: Yes, and I hope we see throughout the season maybe
- 12:46Speaker 4: some evolving of your relationship, because yeah, we'll see them.
- 12:51Speaker 2: You know me, Jess, I really like not tell me.
- 12:54Speaker 2: I'm so sorry, and I'm like okay, clean slate love you, Yes, yes,
- 12:59Speaker 2: but yeah, I'm gonna have a hard time shaking off
- 13:01Speaker 2: Tom Sandoval's comments.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Yeah, and we'll see where that leads you.
- 13:06Speaker 4: Because throughout the were you surprised or is this something
- 13:10Speaker 4: we may get throughout the season. Were you surprised to
- 13:13Speaker 4: see those comments from him from Sandoval?
- 13:15Speaker 2: Yeah? Well for you to say, basically make a comment
- 13:19Speaker 2: about me bringing a child into this world the biggest
- 13:22Speaker 2: blessing of life, it for me is just like you're
- 13:28Speaker 2: just so far up your own ass, Like go get
- 13:31Speaker 2: drunk again, go like get stoned and do your fucking
- 13:34Speaker 2: lights and like.
- 13:35Speaker 1: Take your drugs.
- 13:36Speaker 2: I don't give up like you live in fairytale fucking land.
- 13:40Speaker 2: This is real life. So for you to try and
- 13:43Speaker 2: talk about things that people go through, you don't get
- 13:47Speaker 2: that right. You talk about my kid or anyone else's kid,
- 13:51Speaker 2: I'm gonna fucking cut you. I draw the line, don't
- 13:54Speaker 2: bring my kid into this.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Yeah. You can talk about how stupid.
- 13:57Speaker 2: I am all day long, but when you say when
- 14:00Speaker 2: you tie that into and bring a child into this world,
- 14:04Speaker 2: that is where I burn you.
- 14:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:08Speaker 4: And on that on a more positive note, Sena and
- 14:10Speaker 4: Katie like the vibe of having your back throughout the episode,
- 14:13Speaker 4: Like I saw the little look Shena gave when the tom.
- 14:16Speaker 4: I forget which one it was, but Tom, one of
- 14:18Speaker 4: the toms was like discussing what he Oh. Tom Schwartz
- 14:21Speaker 4: was saying, like how what he did and why you're upset?
- 14:25Speaker 4: And she knows like no, no, no, like kind of
- 14:27Speaker 4: So I love that. I love like the girls sticking
- 14:29Speaker 4: together if you me too.
- 14:31Speaker 2: But this is why I feel safe with women right now.
- 14:33Speaker 2: I just women are my safe zone.
- 14:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:37Speaker 2: When I see anyone not think anything about what's been
- 14:40Speaker 2: written and expose that these journalists poured their heart and
- 14:45Speaker 2: souls into, you can just tell by the writing you
- 14:47Speaker 2: not think much of it. Now I'm questioning your character
- 14:52Speaker 2: and him saying I'll watch Rob. I was like, I
- 14:53Speaker 2: just hope it's not true, Bro, wake up and the ring.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Andy's like I think she would know about her own ring.
- 15:01Speaker 1: I'm like, wake up, John, Hello.
- 15:04Speaker 4: Yeah, we're way past that.
- 15:08Speaker 1: That was wild.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Cause someone check like is Schwartzy's pulse, Like is he
- 15:14Speaker 2: actually a living, breathing person with a brain, because right
- 15:17Speaker 2: now I don't know.
- 15:20Speaker 4: Well, all in all, I'm really fucking pumped for this season, Like,
- 15:23Speaker 4: I'm so excited, are you?
- 15:26Speaker 3: Are you nervous?
- 15:27Speaker 4: I know, with everything you just said overall, is it
- 15:30Speaker 4: like half and half?
- 15:31Speaker 3: How are you feeling?
- 15:32Speaker 1: It's not half and half?
- 15:33Speaker 2: I'm thrilled because again I'm a huge fan of reality TV,
- 15:36Speaker 2: right and I think that it's just gonna be fantastic.
- 15:40Speaker 2: I've heard everyone's thrilled with the first episode, so I
- 15:45Speaker 2: want to thank you all for watching. So on that note,
- 15:51Speaker 2: because we are in Valentine's Day mode, and I know
- 15:56Speaker 2: people get triggered by this time of year because they
- 15:58Speaker 2: think it's for just love. My little brother's birthday is
- 16:01Speaker 2: February fourteenth, so for me, Valentine's Day was always just
- 16:05Speaker 2: like celebrating like my other half, my brother. I never
- 16:09Speaker 2: thought of it any other way, and I thought it
- 16:11Speaker 2: would be really special because Ocean is getting older and
- 16:16Speaker 2: I really want to have her develop a healthy relationship
- 16:21Speaker 2: with animals. I need her to know that like love
- 16:25Speaker 2: can come in many different forms and love can be
- 16:28Speaker 2: expressed without any communication at all. So I took her
- 16:32Speaker 2: to the farm Sanctuary and basically this sanctuary has animals
- 16:38Speaker 2: from slaughterhouses like pettying.
- 16:43Speaker 1: What is it called the petty Zow. Yeah.
- 16:46Speaker 2: I came in contact with the sanctuary. They're one of
- 16:49Speaker 2: the first sanctuaries that took farm animals like that was
- 16:52Speaker 2: their thing. You usually see a lot of sanctuaries when
- 16:54Speaker 2: it comes to like big cats or yeah no, like
- 16:58Speaker 2: you know, marine life. Not many people talk about farm
- 17:02Speaker 2: animal sanctuaries. So I take Ocean and I was inspired.
- 17:07Speaker 2: I really just watching her with these animals was so beautiful,
- 17:12Speaker 2: and I thought, even though I want to talk to
- 17:14Speaker 2: you guys all day long about vander Pump rules, I
- 17:16Speaker 2: need everyone to remember that we need to share love
- 17:20Speaker 2: and positivity. So after I drag all these motherfuckers, I'm
- 17:23Speaker 2: gonna woosa into this next segment. I have Chloe from
- 17:28Speaker 2: the Farm Sanctuary to tell you guys a little bit
- 17:30Speaker 2: about what this sanctuary is about, how you donate, how
- 17:33Speaker 2: you share some love. And I'm super excited, so I
- 17:36Speaker 2: hope you enjoy it. Hello, my loves, my little animal lovers.
- 17:42Speaker 2: I just had the best experience ever. Thank you Chloe
- 17:46Speaker 2: for having us. We are at the Farm Sanctuary. I've
- 17:51Speaker 2: lean Ocean had the best time ever. By the way,
- 17:54Speaker 2: so glad, thank you so much for having us. Can
- 17:57Speaker 2: you give my friends, that's what I call my listeners friends.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Just a little bit of background on what the Farm
- 18:03Speaker 2: Sanctuary is and what you guys do. These animals have
- 18:06Speaker 2: incredible stories, yeah, they so.
- 18:09Speaker 1: We do share with us. Oh, I love First of all,
- 18:12Speaker 1: I'm so I'm so honored that you all were able
- 18:14Speaker 1: to come and join us today at such a good time,
- 18:15Speaker 1: showing you around and showing you the residents and yeah,
- 18:19Speaker 1: and sharing their stories with you, because they really are
- 18:21Speaker 1: just so moving.
- 18:22Speaker 2: So.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Farm Sanctuary is the nation's first farm animal rescue and
- 18:27Speaker 1: it's one of the leading farm animal protection organizations. We
- 18:31Speaker 1: have two sanctuaries, one in Watkins Glen, New York. It's
- 18:34Speaker 1: about three hundred acres and here we have a smaller
- 18:36Speaker 1: sanctuary just outside of Los Angeles that you got to
- 18:38Speaker 1: experience today, And combined, the sanctuaries have rescued thousands of
- 18:43Speaker 1: animals over the years. We've placed thousands more in loving
- 18:46Speaker 1: homes through a farm animal adoption network, and we also
- 18:49Speaker 1: do advocacy work and education work around the issues of
- 18:53Speaker 1: this unjust unsustainable food system that we have and try
- 18:57Speaker 1: to fight the disastrous effects of animal agriculture on the animals.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Of course, but also on the environment a, social justice
- 19:02Speaker 1: and public health.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Well, I want to thank you so much for what
- 19:05Speaker 2: you all do and allowing us to come here. I
- 19:08Speaker 2: mean a lot of these animals, they're like little survivors,
- 19:11Speaker 2: they are. But you also taught me about one of
- 19:16Speaker 2: the pigs came from like a petting zoo. And I
- 19:20Speaker 2: feel like so often like we go and do these
- 19:22Speaker 2: things that we think are so cute and fun and
- 19:24Speaker 2: we really don't even realize like what's going on behind
- 19:28Speaker 2: the scenes.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Which pig was it?
- 19:30Speaker 2: Junip, Junip, can you share that story? Because I think
- 19:33Speaker 2: a lot of people think that, like, petting zoos are
- 19:35Speaker 2: so fun. Ma ain't that fun though?
- 19:38Speaker 1: Right? Yeah, they end up not being that fun for
- 19:40Speaker 1: a lot of the animals are who are there. So yeah,
- 19:44Speaker 1: it wasn't until her rescue that a lot of us
- 19:46Speaker 1: at Farm Sanctuary even understood how petting zoos will commonly operate.
- 19:49Speaker 1: So what happened was two women once you go visit
- 19:52Speaker 1: the petting zoo and they and they discovered that the
- 19:55Speaker 1: runt of the litter was not getting enough nutrients. She
- 19:58Speaker 1: was being bullied out of nursing by her siblings. So
- 20:01Speaker 1: they asked if they could foster her and help her
- 20:04Speaker 1: grow to be healthier, and the petting zoo owner said yes,
- 20:06Speaker 1: so they took her in and then they you know,
- 20:08Speaker 1: cared for her and loved her for a few months,
- 20:10Speaker 1: and she was getting bigger and stronger. And then they
- 20:12Speaker 1: learned that this petting zoo, like a lot of petting zoos,
- 20:16Speaker 1: will actually lease a pregnant animal from a farm and
- 20:20Speaker 1: then they'll have those adorable babies to to, you know,
- 20:24Speaker 1: to use during the season. But then at the end
- 20:25Speaker 1: of the season, they're not going to have use for
- 20:27Speaker 1: those animals anymore, and by you know, the time that
- 20:29Speaker 1: next year rolls around, they're going to be too big
- 20:32Speaker 1: for people to want to take pictures with them. So
- 20:34Speaker 1: they will give the animals back to the farm and
- 20:36Speaker 1: they will then meet whatever fate they were meant to
- 20:39Speaker 1: meet in the first place. So, you know, in the
- 20:41Speaker 1: case for these pigs, they were just gonna be slaughtered,
- 20:43Speaker 1: and those women did not want that to happen to
- 20:46Speaker 1: this piglet that they had fallen in love with, so
- 20:47Speaker 1: they asked if they could rescue her instead and take
- 20:49Speaker 1: her to a sanctuary. The owner said yes, and that's
- 20:51Speaker 1: how she wound up here. She's very sexy. She she's
- 20:55Speaker 1: a gorgeous, gorgeous girl. There was also one pig.
- 20:59Speaker 2: I wish that you guys were all here to like
- 21:01Speaker 2: witness what we saw today because these animals are so fabulous.
- 21:05Speaker 2: Ocean had so much joy in her eyes. And we
- 21:09Speaker 2: met a pig who whose name was Lisa, and I
- 21:13Speaker 2: made the joke of the resemblance was uncanny with my mom,
- 21:17Speaker 2: but only because of this Chloe, I was not putting gorgeous.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Lisa's gorgeous is gorgeous.
- 21:22Speaker 2: She was sleeping like a rock and snoring, and Ocean
- 21:27Speaker 2: was obsessed with her. I just think it's incredible that
- 21:29Speaker 2: this is the first like farm sanctuary, because most most
- 21:34Speaker 2: sanctuaries are what.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Yeah, so i' you know. The sanctuary is that existed
- 21:39Speaker 1: before we existed. They mainly rescued, you know, different species
- 21:42Speaker 1: of animals, ones that you wouldn't commonly find in our
- 21:44Speaker 1: food system, like a lot of exotic animals, exotic animals
- 21:48Speaker 1: or dogs and cats. And you know, right.
- 21:51Speaker 2: Because we have had a couple people on the podcast
- 21:55Speaker 2: that they rescue big cats or like their mission is
- 21:58Speaker 2: to empty the tanks. This really was And when Jessica
- 22:01Speaker 2: brought you guys. To me, I was like, oh my gosh.
- 22:03Speaker 2: Number one, we have to go there. Number two, this
- 22:06Speaker 2: is amazing. And I have to say, you guys have
- 22:10Speaker 2: some celebrity cows.
- 22:12Speaker 1: We do this farm sanctuary.
- 22:14Speaker 2: Anyone who watches the news or just is on social media,
- 22:19Speaker 2: like you said, like a year ago, right, So.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it was about a year and a half
- 22:22Speaker 1: ago this happened. Yeah, the cows stars. I love to
- 22:25Speaker 1: tell you all this. Yes, yes, a lot of people did,
- 22:28Speaker 1: and people still to this day common asked to see
- 22:30Speaker 1: those cows. So I'd love to share this story. So
- 22:32Speaker 1: it was about a year and a half ago. Is
- 22:34Speaker 1: June twenty twenty one. There is a big beef processing
- 22:39Speaker 1: place to like a cow slaughterhouse in Pico Rivera, I
- 22:43Speaker 1: think just about ten minutes south of downtown LA about it.
- 22:46Speaker 1: And a gate was left open there and forty cows
- 22:49Speaker 1: escaped and they were running around the streets, and it
- 22:52Speaker 1: obviously garnered a lot of attention because it's very unusual
- 22:55Speaker 1: to see a herd of cows running in an urban area,
- 22:57Speaker 1: and people are getting their phones out and sending videos
- 22:59Speaker 1: and you know, photos to the media, and the workers
- 23:03Speaker 1: in animal control and police and stuff. We're rounding up
- 23:06Speaker 1: all the cows to send them back to the slaughterhouse
- 23:08Speaker 1: to be killed, right, but there was one cow that
- 23:10Speaker 1: they couldn't capture for more than twenty four hours. She
- 23:13Speaker 1: was incredibly fast, she was smart. She was just out
- 23:16Speaker 1: running them, out smarting them, and it took them, you know,
- 23:19Speaker 1: over a day to finally capture her. And when they
- 23:21Speaker 1: finally did, it was it was heartbreaking to watch because
- 23:24Speaker 1: you know, people got it on their phones, these videos
- 23:26Speaker 1: of her fighting for her life, and you know, she
- 23:31Speaker 1: clearly understood, you know, the gravity of the situation she
- 23:34Speaker 1: was in, and it broke people's hearts. So people all
- 23:37Speaker 1: around the country asked for her to be released to
- 23:39Speaker 1: a sanctuary, and that's how she wound up here. We
- 23:41Speaker 1: were so thrilled to take her in. And then a
- 23:44Speaker 1: week later we get a call that there was another
- 23:46Speaker 1: cow that they had discovered in a park twelve miles
- 23:49Speaker 1: away from the slaughterhouse. So she had walked from the
- 23:52Speaker 1: slaughterhouse twelve miles to a park and had been in
- 23:54Speaker 1: hiding there for about eight days. She was living underneath
- 23:58Speaker 1: a bridge there and was dehydrated and starving and terrified.
- 24:01Speaker 1: We got her as well, we named the first cow June,
- 24:04Speaker 1: the second cow named Heer Susan, and move them in
- 24:06Speaker 1: together the name I know. We move them in together
- 24:10Speaker 1: to this like back pasture that we have that's away
- 24:13Speaker 1: from from all the other animals where they could really
- 24:16Speaker 1: just decompress and and really feel that they were safe.
- 24:19Speaker 1: And they bonded really closely, and they would take turns
- 24:22Speaker 1: eating while the other one would watch, just keep watching,
- 24:25Speaker 1: make sure that they were safe. And for the first
- 24:27Speaker 1: few months, like our stuff couldn't get within like one
- 24:29Speaker 1: hundred yards of them without them running away. They wanted
- 24:32Speaker 1: nothing to do, nothing to do with human zero trust,
- 24:35Speaker 1: zero trust. And it's been amazing to see them like
- 24:37Speaker 1: progress and slowly, slowly become more comfortable with humans. So
- 24:41Speaker 1: now they're to the point where when I take guests
- 24:44Speaker 1: in their space, they will keep eating and like, let
- 24:47Speaker 1: us within you know, fifteen feet of them without them
- 24:49Speaker 1: running away. They still don't like, you know, contact, I
- 24:53Speaker 1: get it meet. I wouldn't want it either, e very again,
- 24:58Speaker 1: like you stay where you're eyes. I thought too hard
- 25:01Speaker 1: to get where I am right now.
- 25:02Speaker 2: But you know what, I did notice that even though
- 25:04Speaker 2: they like kept doing their thing, they were looking at us,
- 25:08Speaker 2: like they take a minute, and they were they were
- 25:10Speaker 2: so sweet. And I love the power of people on
- 25:15Speaker 2: social media. There's so many times where I'm like, gosh,
- 25:18Speaker 2: social media really is just like not my vibe. And
- 25:21Speaker 2: the fact that all of these voices rallied together and said, no,
- 25:26Speaker 2: this cow's going to a sanctuary. Sanctuary, I'm so like,
- 25:31Speaker 2: keep doing that, Keep being a voice for these like
- 25:34Speaker 2: incredible animals. By the way, I've had vegans on the podcast.
- 25:37Speaker 1: Are you a vegan?
- 25:38Speaker 2: I am, yeah, okay, I got I gotta do it
- 25:41Speaker 2: at least a vegetarian.
- 25:42Speaker 1: I was watching these cows. I know you are not horrible.
- 25:46Speaker 1: I know, I know. I mean, it's uh, you know,
- 25:50Speaker 1: it's not an option that is like available to everybody,
- 25:54Speaker 1: and like you know, there are a lot of barriers
- 25:57Speaker 1: in place, you know, to make that sometimes really challenging transition.
- 26:01Speaker 1: So we always like to say at Farm Sanctuary that
- 26:03Speaker 1: every time you choose a meal that's plant based, you
- 26:05Speaker 1: are helping to reduce the harm so you don't eat
- 26:07Speaker 1: like even doing meatless mondays is a huge help, and
- 26:11Speaker 1: like maybe only eating meat on the weekends and people
- 26:13Speaker 1: do that, and if you feel called to make that
- 26:17Speaker 1: full transition, like more power to you. If you want resources,
- 26:20Speaker 1: we can help you with that, like to learn how
- 26:22Speaker 1: to do it, so you know, it's not an all
- 26:24Speaker 1: or nothing game. There's there's lots of room in this
- 26:26Speaker 1: middle ground to make a difference for animals in the
- 26:28Speaker 1: environment and workers and communities.
- 26:30Speaker 2: That's something for twenty twenty three that I really would
- 26:33Speaker 2: like to I mean, looking at these the cows, what
- 26:39Speaker 2: was the one I fell in love with? The big
- 26:40Speaker 2: one with staff or cow different? I know, yes, my
- 26:45Speaker 2: mom I was like, oh what, no.
- 26:48Speaker 1: I cannot eat this anymore.
- 26:51Speaker 4: There's a certain energy and I definitely I'm sure you'll
- 26:54Speaker 4: talk about this at the end if it's even possible
- 26:56Speaker 4: for people to visit, but like there's a certain energy
- 26:58Speaker 4: when you come on a farm or you're around these animals.
- 27:02Speaker 4: It's like like so much love and positivity and like
- 27:06Speaker 4: they just want to love you. And that's why it's
- 27:08Speaker 4: heartbreaking to think of, Like I think they're probably born
- 27:11Speaker 4: to maybe trust I don't know, maybe trust us, and
- 27:14Speaker 4: then they get and then a lot of times are
- 27:17Speaker 4: the trust is broken and if they're lucky, they're rescued.
- 27:22Speaker 4: But there's just some sort of like powerful beautiful energy,
- 27:26Speaker 4: eyes in the eyes and in the But I do
- 27:28Speaker 4: want to ask you about being vegan because I've got
- 27:31Speaker 4: some DMS about this last time we had someone on
- 27:34Speaker 4: the podcast, so I really would like to know. So
- 27:38Speaker 4: I do this thing where I don't eat meat a lot,
- 27:40Speaker 4: but when I do, I'm like, well, I'm going to
- 27:43Speaker 4: look for grass fed, free range organic because at least
- 27:47Speaker 4: I know, and if this is a myth, bus let
- 27:50Speaker 4: me know.
- 27:50Speaker 3: But at least I know the cows.
- 27:52Speaker 4: Are living out their lives and they're on a pasture
- 27:54Speaker 4: and then when they are their lives and it's they're
- 27:59Speaker 4: taken in the most humane way.
- 28:01Speaker 3: But is that true?
- 28:03Speaker 1: A fantastic question. Yeah, that's a fantastic I'm so I'm
- 28:06Speaker 1: so grateful that you asked that because I think that
- 28:09Speaker 1: that is like a lot of people, Those are the
- 28:12Speaker 1: perspectives that a lot of people have on those labels. Unfortunately,
- 28:16Speaker 1: and you know, we found this, like you know, throughout
- 28:19Speaker 1: the farm animal protection movement just with all the you know,
- 28:23Speaker 1: investigations that have been done over the years, those labels
- 28:26Speaker 1: are are largely really misleading and you know, are pretty
- 28:30Speaker 1: much just a marketing ploy to pull out the heart strings.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Of consumers and to also get people to you know,
- 28:35Speaker 1: pay more money and things like that. So just as
- 28:38Speaker 1: an example organic dairy for example, or I guess organic
- 28:43Speaker 1: products in general. In terms of animal products, it just
- 28:46Speaker 1: means that those animals cannot be be given like antibiotics
- 28:50Speaker 1: and hormones and things like that, but there's still for
- 28:53Speaker 1: the most part subjected to many of the same cruelties
- 28:55Speaker 1: that conventionally raised animals are. Like on our organic dairies
- 29:00Speaker 1: as an example, we've found that there's still kept indoors
- 29:04Speaker 1: and milked for most of the day and are unable
- 29:06Speaker 1: to go out outdoors for you know, many hours a day.
- 29:09Speaker 1: With like free range eggs and cage free eggs, you know,
- 29:13Speaker 1: those those chickens are still largely kept you know, in
- 29:16Speaker 1: these giant warehouses with you know, one hundred thousand other
- 29:19Speaker 1: birds and will hardly get access to the outdoors at
- 29:22Speaker 1: a cage at a free range facility, no access to
- 29:25Speaker 1: the outdoors at a cage free facility, So like at
- 29:28Speaker 1: a free range farm, it can be you know, thousands
- 29:31Speaker 1: and thousands of birds in a single warehouse. At the
- 29:33Speaker 1: end of the warehouse there needs to be a small opening,
- 29:37Speaker 1: you know, to a small patio. It can be like
- 29:39Speaker 1: a concrete patio that if you're a bird at the
- 29:41Speaker 1: other end of the warehouse, you'll need to wade through
- 29:44Speaker 1: potentially hundreds of thousands of other birds to access that
- 29:46Speaker 1: outdoor space. There doesn't need to be any amount of
- 29:49Speaker 1: time that these birds have to spend outdoors in order
- 29:51Speaker 1: to use that label free range. There only needs to
- 29:54Speaker 1: be theoretical access. But advertisers, when you look at the products,
- 29:58Speaker 1: they'll they'll have you leave that these birds are outside
- 30:01Speaker 1: pecking in the grass, enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. Right, yeah, wow.
- 30:04Speaker 1: Those used to be the eggs that I used to
- 30:06Speaker 1: choose until I came here on a tour one day
- 30:07Speaker 1: and I broke down in tears when I was told
- 30:10Speaker 1: by a tour guide how those birds are at I
- 30:13Speaker 1: don't even like egg. I forget egg, like really enjoy
- 30:18Speaker 1: meat that much. Either.
- 30:19Speaker 2: But I feel like, and I don't know if it's
- 30:21Speaker 2: just where we live where I feel like everything is
- 30:24Speaker 2: like packed with meat, or it's like here's a full bird,
- 30:29Speaker 2: or you know, it just feels like it's kind of
- 30:31Speaker 2: shoved down our throats. And I don't want to say
- 30:33Speaker 2: that I'm well traveled I don't know really what it's
- 30:35Speaker 2: like outside.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Of America, but it is strange.
- 30:39Speaker 2: I feel like I just have to switch the habits,
- 30:42Speaker 2: look a little deeper into the menu, right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 30:45Speaker 1: And you know that transition is is different for everybody.
- 30:49Speaker 1: If it's if it's something that you want to do
- 30:51Speaker 1: for me, for myself personally coming from a place of
- 30:55Speaker 1: you know, privilege myself, and that being easier than I
- 30:57Speaker 1: thought it would be just just as an you know,
- 31:00Speaker 1: from an individual perspective, but for different people, it's different.
- 31:04Speaker 4: It's so interesting too, because I think a lot of
- 31:07Speaker 4: people will say, well, yes, I'll eat this animal and
- 31:09Speaker 4: eat that animal, but I would never eat this other animal.
- 31:13Speaker 4: But that's like like say, I know, you know a
- 31:18Speaker 4: lot of other cultures. Let's just use dogs for example,
- 31:20Speaker 4: because I understand other cultures or whoever. There are some
- 31:24Speaker 4: people who consume dogs, but a lot of people that
- 31:27Speaker 4: I know personally don't. And I learned from you today, Chloe,
- 31:32Speaker 4: that pigs are just as smart, if not smarter than dogs.
- 31:36Speaker 1: And I think a lot of.
- 31:37Speaker 3: People will be like, well, I'll eat pigs because.
- 31:39Speaker 4: They don't really know what's going on, and like, you know,
- 31:41Speaker 4: they're just like whatever, they get killed or their lives end,
- 31:46Speaker 4: and they don't really get it, like they just kind
- 31:48Speaker 4: of bah blah blah all you know, walk around all day.
- 31:51Speaker 3: But that's not the case, right.
- 31:52Speaker 1: It is really not the case. They're super intelligent, and
- 31:54Speaker 1: I mean it's really kind of like, you know, complicated
- 31:57Speaker 1: and hard to quantify and tell. You know, that's kind
- 32:00Speaker 1: of but yeah, a lot of scientists consider picks to
- 32:04Speaker 1: be even smarter than dogs. They're incredibly intelligent. We all
- 32:07Speaker 1: know Wilbur. We all know Wilbur. He could sell, he
- 32:11Speaker 1: could spell hell, Charlotte's Web. Ye, he's an icon. He
- 32:15Speaker 1: is an icon. Every animal on this farm is an icon.
- 32:18Speaker 1: Real quick.
- 32:19Speaker 2: The sanctuary in New York. You said it's how many acres?
- 32:23Speaker 1: It's about three hundred acres. It's gorgeous. If you ever
- 32:26Speaker 1: get the chance to visit it is it is stunningly beautiful.
- 32:28Speaker 1: All right, We're going there and tell me this.
- 32:31Speaker 2: If people wanted to come, yes and visit here, or
- 32:34Speaker 2: they wanted to make a donation, like how do people
- 32:37Speaker 2: find you donate? Come and check out this facility?
- 32:40Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, they may for those important questions. I
- 32:42Speaker 1: really appreciate that, so and so in terms of coming
- 32:46Speaker 1: to visit for a tour, we actually offer public tours
- 32:49Speaker 1: every weekend, so every Saturday and Sunday unless it's you know,
- 32:52Speaker 1: like a major holiday or it's like Christmas or something.
- 32:56Speaker 1: But yeah, just go onto our website from Sanctuary dot org.
- 32:58Speaker 1: We have like a visit us section and you can
- 33:00Speaker 1: book a tour there. So we have public tours. We're
- 33:04Speaker 1: about to launch our family friendly like children's tour, so
- 33:08Speaker 1: that's going to be a little bit like mellower language,
- 33:11Speaker 1: geared towards the little ones, but still learning just about
- 33:14Speaker 1: the animals and how amazing they are. We also have
- 33:17Speaker 1: private tours, so if it's you know, if you want
- 33:19Speaker 1: it's like a special special experience for you and up
- 33:23Speaker 1: to fourteen other people. We offer private tours throughout the week.
- 33:26Speaker 1: You just need to book that directly with us. And
- 33:29Speaker 1: then in terms of donations, such an important question because
