- 0:18Speaker 3: Honey Florida? Yeah, it was beautiful today. This is our
- 0:21Speaker 3: our greatest time of year right now. So our summers
- 0:23Speaker 3: are absolutely gnarly. If you're not from here, it's it's.
- 0:29Speaker 1: It sounds like we were feral. It's human.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Very very similar, yeah, yeah, very similar to Florida.
- 0:38Speaker 3: So yeah, very but this is our our winter fall
- 0:41Speaker 3: and it's you know, perfect.
- 0:43Speaker 1: It is gorgeous time. Yeah, it's not too hot and
- 0:47Speaker 1: it's enjoy being out in the sunny that I feel
- 0:49Speaker 1: like you're melting.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah exactly. It's like the non web, non weather weather.
- 0:53Speaker 3: We just walk outside. You're like, I don't feel anything.
- 0:57Speaker 3: It's hot, not hot or cold. You're just like here
- 1:00Speaker 3: we are, so.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Yeah, we have about two weeks of like being like
- 1:03Speaker 1: hot hot hot hot dot cold and it's just like hot.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Yeah for sure.
- 1:10Speaker 1: I'm on the Gold Coast, so northern rivers running the border.
- 1:13Speaker 1: So yeah, I love that area. Yeah. I live at
- 1:15Speaker 1: the bat nearby and Bay so okay, yeah unreal, Yeah
- 1:20Speaker 1: it sounds it is. It's gorgeous, absolutely luscious. I'm hanging
- 1:24Speaker 1: to get to the beach later on.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Actually that's awesome.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Yeah so yeah, so yeah, you guys are coming out
- 1:31Speaker 1: in February to do the email extravaganza. Yes, yes, how
- 1:38Speaker 1: does that feel? Hell, when was the last time you
- 1:40Speaker 1: guys were in.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Oz We were there beginning of twenty twenty four, so okay,
- 1:46Speaker 3: so last year will be two years?
- 1:47Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, two years.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Oh yeah yeah by the time you come out.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, by the time we're there, it'll be two years.
- 1:53Speaker 3: But yeah, we love I mean, we love Australia's been there.
- 1:57Speaker 3: I don't I need to find the actual number rolling
- 2:00Speaker 3: around is either twelve or thirteen, so I need to
- 2:03Speaker 3: actually go count and.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Figure out how many times you've been out.
- 2:06Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, yeah, so we've been in Australia ton so
- 2:08Speaker 3: but every time I get just as excited.
- 2:10Speaker 2: We love it there very much, so yeah, it'll be
- 2:13Speaker 2: fun looking forward to it.
- 2:14Speaker 1: It's addictive and there's a lot of our US counterparts
- 2:18Speaker 1: that love coming out here and we love having you out.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I love it very much.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Awesome. So you're doing the Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney I
- 2:28Speaker 1: think it is that you'll be touring this time. Yeah,
- 2:31Speaker 1: so who else is are you guys a headlining? So
- 2:34Speaker 1: which is kind of cool as well?
- 2:35Speaker 2: Yeah, very cool. Yeah, we're excited. Yeah, our friends in
- 2:38Speaker 2: Cartel to come in and then so yeah, I.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Mean it's a really good lineup. What's funny is I
- 2:45Speaker 3: literally was like wondering. I was like if someone's gonna
- 2:47Speaker 3: ask me?
- 2:53Speaker 1: Took my tongue. The other band that I was reading.
- 2:56Speaker 3: Read bra This Wildlife is our is our homies from
- 3:00Speaker 3: over here as well, so it's always with them, so
- 3:03Speaker 3: it should be cool y.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Yeah for sure, because you guys have got a pretty
- 3:07Speaker 1: big following in Australia too, don't hear you? A pretty
- 3:10Speaker 1: big fan base, which is awesome.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah, very very lucky, very thankful.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, we're more than happy to embrace you when
- 3:20Speaker 1: you come out. So bring some back from the vault.
- 3:24Speaker 1: What you're doing one of your albums from two thousand
- 3:28Speaker 1: and five you're going to be showcasing, is that right?
- 3:30Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeh, never take and the first one is never
- 3:33Speaker 2: take friendship personal. And then we re.
- 3:35Speaker 3: Recorded last year with our current news singer, Maddie, so
- 3:39Speaker 3: it will never take yeah, just to kind of give
- 3:42Speaker 3: it a the fan basically kind of a way to
- 3:46Speaker 3: hear what these songs are going to sound like with
- 3:47Speaker 3: him singing.
- 3:48Speaker 1: So yeah, that's an interesting take. And so how is
- 3:51Speaker 1: having that on board because he's on even fresh last year,
- 3:54Speaker 1: isn't he Yeah?
- 3:55Speaker 3: Yeah, so his first he started yeah, pretty much summer
- 3:57Speaker 3: of twenty four. He's great, he's super yeah, very good.
- 4:04Speaker 3: I mean he grew up listening to us too, which
- 4:05Speaker 3: is also funny, so big fan and so brahm. It's
- 4:09Speaker 3: just exciting to be able to play these songs and
- 4:12Speaker 3: kind of add his own thing to it. And I
- 4:14Speaker 3: mean he's an absolutely ripping singer and just a good
- 4:18Speaker 3: front man, really good energy for us, really positive. So
- 4:21Speaker 3: for us, it's been incredible being able to, you know,
- 4:24Speaker 3: just work with him and grow with him and just
- 4:27Speaker 3: are It's just a new era of ambulance and you know,
- 4:29Speaker 3: we've been able to be a band this long and
- 4:31Speaker 3: obviously switching out a singer is not easy and usually
- 4:34Speaker 3: just doesn't work or you know, it just isn't a thing,
- 4:38Speaker 3: but we're thankful that fans seem to be cool with it.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Obviously not all of them.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Yeah you get that that's happened, you know.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Yeah, it happens.
- 4:52Speaker 1: But that's how you guys keep relevant and is to
- 4:55Speaker 1: adapt with the times and and change with what's needed
- 4:58Speaker 1: and otherwise gone to a pemanent hiatus.
- 5:01Speaker 2: And well that's what it would be. It's either this
- 5:04Speaker 2: or it's like we just never you know, do anything again.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Which is you know, I think that our true fan base,
- 5:11Speaker 3: I think just.
- 5:11Speaker 2: Loves the songs and loves kind of the whole.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Broader thing which is amber Lynd and isn't just about
- 5:18Speaker 3: one member. Obviously, I know the singers vocals affected greatly
- 5:22Speaker 3: and so it sounds differently with a different singer, but
- 5:25Speaker 3: the heart of it's still there. It still is our
- 5:28Speaker 3: songs that we all wrote together. I mean, we were
- 5:30Speaker 3: such a big part of these songs. You know, it's
- 5:33Speaker 3: like all of us, you know, putting in our own
- 5:36Speaker 3: thing into these songs.
- 5:37Speaker 2: So being able to still play them live and having
- 5:40Speaker 2: Maddie add his kind of love into it from being
- 5:44Speaker 2: a fan at that age I think is really special,
- 5:46Speaker 2: really cool for sure.
- 5:47Speaker 1: For sure. So is he the baby of the band?
- 5:50Speaker 1: Is he a bit younger than you guys?
- 5:53Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, so I'm I am originally the baby of
- 5:56Speaker 3: the band by a lot. But he and I was
- 6:00Speaker 3: very young. I'm only thirty eight, so I think he
- 6:05Speaker 3: turned thirty. I think he's thirty seven.
- 6:08Speaker 1: Okay, so you guys here, but.
- 6:10Speaker 3: He's not a much younger than me. But I was
- 6:12Speaker 3: the young I was the youngest guy in the band
- 6:15Speaker 3: by a lot.
- 6:16Speaker 2: When I got in the band, I think I was
- 6:17Speaker 2: like fourteen fifteen something.
- 6:19Speaker 1: So wow, because you guys been together since about two
- 6:22Speaker 1: thousand and seven, is that right?
- 6:24Speaker 2: Two?
- 6:26Speaker 1: Well' that's right, because you actually called something else before
- 6:28Speaker 1: you were called a violin.
- 6:30Speaker 3: Yeah. It was like an old punk band from Florida.
- 6:32Speaker 3: I wasn't in that band, but that was when they
- 6:34Speaker 3: started in Berlin. I joined it, but yeah, I mean
- 6:36Speaker 3: we we recorded our first album in two thousand and two.
- 6:39Speaker 2: When it came out in two thousand and three, so wow.
- 6:42Speaker 1: So yeah, so you would you say you were fourteen
- 6:43Speaker 1: or fifteen? Yeah, I was twenty two, twenty three.
- 6:51Speaker 3: That's crazy, that's crazy. Time is a construct, so it
- 6:54Speaker 3: not even matters.
- 6:56Speaker 1: That's so true. I you know, I just went to
- 6:57Speaker 1: a festival on the weekend and I was like, I
- 6:59Speaker 1: love it just got yeah right now, I.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Don't feel I mean, it's so funny. It's like an
- 7:06Speaker 3: age and that whole thing. It's it's it's just a number.
- 7:10Speaker 3: I mean I feel the same. You know.
- 7:12Speaker 2: It's like I still think of myself as early twenties
- 7:15Speaker 2: and you just kind of like a little bit wi Yeah.
- 7:19Speaker 3: I mean I definitely am am more confident, comfortable and
- 7:22Speaker 3: just my own skin and being in the field, you know.
- 7:25Speaker 2: But I'm saying like physically and just yeah, it's just weird.
- 7:28Speaker 3: But I'll meet someone that's like, oh, I'm twenty six
- 7:30Speaker 3: and I'm like, oh, yeah, we're close in age.
- 7:33Speaker 1: I'm like, well, I'm not really like reality is like
- 7:36Speaker 1: top top tops exactly.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:40Speaker 2: It's it's very strange, but I don't mind it.
- 7:42Speaker 3: I know, it feels it doesn't bother me near as
- 7:45Speaker 3: much as I you know, maybe at once thought it would.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Whatever. I just kind of I think it's cool. I
- 7:51Speaker 2: don't know, I feel.
- 7:52Speaker 3: Like, yeah, like I'm more wiser and more comfortable and
- 7:56Speaker 3: more you know, I've I think back on my brain
- 7:59Speaker 3: worked then and now my brain works now and you
- 8:02Speaker 3: never you know, ideally you never stop growing and learning
- 8:05Speaker 3: and changing.
- 8:05Speaker 1: But absolutely that's the.
- 8:10Speaker 2: Finding peace, finding peace and just find being able to
- 8:15Speaker 2: not everything's a big deal.
- 8:17Speaker 1: And just chill, chill.
- 8:22Speaker 2: It's all gonna do this. You know, you're doing ups
- 8:25Speaker 2: and downs forever. It's never gonna just be smooth sailing.
- 8:28Speaker 3: So it's like landing in a very just a sense
- 8:32Speaker 3: of gratitude and peace of understanding that like we you know,
- 8:37Speaker 3: life is a journey and here we are, and it's
- 8:39Speaker 3: like absolutely if you can spiral on everything. So I
- 8:42Speaker 3: just I'm thankful that I've learned that at this point
- 8:44Speaker 3: in my life because at the younger age, I did
- 8:47Speaker 3: not feel that I was very stressed anxiety ridden, just like,
- 8:50Speaker 3: oh I don't even really like people like I wish
- 8:55Speaker 3: I go back to that those years. I'm like, I'm
- 8:57Speaker 3: good like being where I'm at now, able.
- 9:00Speaker 1: To agree more like tidal waves are you just let
- 9:07Speaker 1: you learn tiki battles.
- 9:09Speaker 3: After a while, I think back about what my biggest
- 9:13Speaker 3: thing was back then, and what I remember just, oh
- 9:16Speaker 3: my god, it encompassed everything, and I'm like, what that
- 9:20Speaker 3: was like?
- 9:20Speaker 2: Nothing? You know what I mean? Like that problem that
- 9:23Speaker 2: when you were was the end of the world. I'm like, oh,
- 9:26Speaker 2: the thing I deal with like weekly or I don't know,
- 9:28Speaker 2: you know what I.
- 9:28Speaker 1: Mean, just it's nothing. But I guess that you know,
- 9:32Speaker 1: everyone's on such a different journey to a different stage.
- 9:36Speaker 1: You know, like what might be the worst thing ever
- 9:39Speaker 1: that's happened to some person might be like, oh my god, like, yeah,
- 9:42Speaker 1: that happens daily for us, and it doesn't. There's no
- 9:45Speaker 1: monomial on that.
- 9:46Speaker 3: It's it's exactly what what you feel is what you feel.
- 9:50Speaker 2: And absolutely someone's worse staying.
- 9:52Speaker 3: You can't just you know, diminish that because you're like,
- 9:55Speaker 3: oh my god, that's dumb.
- 9:57Speaker 2: It still is.
- 9:57Speaker 4: That is their feelings, and it is it's validating. Yeah,
- 10:01Speaker 4: I think just perspective and gratitude is so important because
- 10:05Speaker 4: you just have to daily recognize like how well you have.
- 10:09Speaker 4: You know, it's like it won't always be good. Things
- 10:12Speaker 4: are going to be tough, but it's like you can
- 10:14Speaker 4: if you look.
- 10:14Speaker 1: At yeah, I just go, can we give us back
- 10:17Speaker 1: to being like good? Now, I'm certain I'm done with you,
- 10:19Speaker 1: like think upset and the down I was like, no,
- 10:22Speaker 1: let's come back to being happy.
- 10:25Speaker 2: It is.
- 10:25Speaker 1: It's it's about, like you say, I think, the gratitude
- 10:28Speaker 1: and being able to do what you guys do for
- 10:30Speaker 1: a living and you know, and still be able to
- 10:32Speaker 1: do that. It's just such an amazing thing. And you know,
- 10:35Speaker 1: to be able to give to your new music to
- 10:38Speaker 1: the fans and it's it's such a special exchange I think,
- 10:41Speaker 1: you know, being an artist and their audience. It's I
- 10:45Speaker 1: will never take that over, like they can't recreate that.
- 10:48Speaker 3: I agree, It's very very special and it's something that's
- 10:50Speaker 3: hard hard to explain the way that feels when you oh, yeah,
- 10:54Speaker 3: you know, being in Florida, just a kid that wanted
- 10:57Speaker 3: to play drums and dream of playing in a band
- 11:00Speaker 3: one day is able to go across the world and
- 11:03Speaker 3: play shows and have people care as such, it's something
- 11:06Speaker 3: they will never not take or just not recognize that.
- 11:09Speaker 2: It's such a beautiful and incredible thing.
- 11:11Speaker 1: For sure, absolutely absolutely, And it's some you know, I
- 11:15Speaker 1: see so many musicians is a beautiful people because like
- 11:18Speaker 1: you know, you're here to talk about you know, the
- 11:19Speaker 1: ego and that I mean you have to have some
- 11:21Speaker 1: sense of ego to do what we do and get
- 11:23Speaker 1: up there and do it. But to to notice that
- 11:26Speaker 1: and to you know, take that time to be grateful
- 11:30Speaker 1: for what you've got and to you know, this is
- 11:34Speaker 1: where it's all at and still behead. It's some you know,
- 11:38Speaker 1: I see that in all you know, fellow artists and
- 11:41Speaker 1: that I be around whatnot. And it's just that's the
- 11:44Speaker 1: beautiful thing in itself to be able to recognize that much.
- 11:48Speaker 1: Agree keep Yeah, And the thing about you know, technology
- 11:52Speaker 1: these days is getting to engage with the fan base
- 11:54Speaker 1: a lot more, you know, going in the days where
- 11:56Speaker 1: you know, artists are of this unattainable entity, it's you know,
- 11:59Speaker 1: you can engage social media and things like that, and
- 12:02Speaker 1: it's it's become more. It's an inclusive thing. It's kind
- 12:07Speaker 1: of you fanned by some young people as well. I
- 12:11Speaker 1: guess thanks things like that.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. Yeah.
- 12:16Speaker 3: I literally just on the interview before I said that,
- 12:18Speaker 3: it's like, what's something that you felt like it's cool
- 12:20Speaker 3: since you started till now, as long as a lot
- 12:24Speaker 3: of the negatives that we all know and just the
- 12:27Speaker 3: level of chaos that social media could be, but I
- 12:29Speaker 3: think that's one of the coolest things because going from
- 12:33Speaker 3: you know, you know, not really being able to interact
- 12:35Speaker 3: or it was like message boards or whatever. But yeah,
- 12:37Speaker 3: social media kind of gave us that like connection with
- 12:40Speaker 3: our fans that I think is really special, you know,
- 12:43Speaker 3: absolutely and something you kind of how you control that
- 12:46Speaker 3: and how you kind of like.
- 12:50Speaker 1: Literally pen running the.
- 12:54Speaker 2: I mean that's the stuff we used when I used
- 12:57Speaker 2: to do.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Absolutely, that's what a girl.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Yeah, it's you know, there's a cool thing about it,
- 13:03Speaker 3: for sure, and like anything in life, there's a good
- 13:05Speaker 3: and bad about it. You know, there's times where like,
- 13:08Speaker 3: how does that person just said that to someone as
- 13:10Speaker 3: if they're not a real person.
- 13:12Speaker 2: You know, that's always strange that it's given people the confidence.
- 13:15Speaker 2: It's a very.
- 13:17Speaker 1: You know, an audacity that seems to.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Say it wisely for sure, or or respectfully if you will. So,
- 13:24Speaker 3: but that whole I think it's a really cool thing
- 13:26Speaker 3: for sure.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Yeah, no, I agree. I agree. So yeah, you guys
- 13:31Speaker 1: are how do you feel about being described as an
- 13:33Speaker 1: emo pop pump pop punk band? Is it kind of
- 13:36Speaker 1: a I don't know that you're happy to be an
- 13:38Speaker 1: all you? Yeah, it's not so much.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Yeah, it's different. We've always kind of straddled the line
- 13:48Speaker 3: of of what our genre is. You know, we always
- 13:51Speaker 3: just us to say alternative rock, and that was kind
- 13:53Speaker 3: of our goal. And you know, yeah, we're on the
- 13:56Speaker 3: radio over here, is on alternative radio. You know, there's
- 13:59Speaker 3: no emo radio. Whatever, it doesn't whatever. I don't really
- 14:04Speaker 3: sweat it, you know, it's like, it's not, it's not
- 14:06Speaker 3: my genre of music what I'm into or would or
- 14:11Speaker 3: would imagine Ambulance being into.
- 14:12Speaker 2: But we toured with a lot.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Of those bands, and obviously we have some similarities when
- 14:17Speaker 3: it comes to stylistic voices, especially these albums like never
- 14:21Speaker 3: take that we're going to be playing over there.
- 14:23Speaker 1: And also yeah, fan base too when that was a
- 14:25Speaker 1: popular culture thing. It's you know, back in two thousand
- 14:28Speaker 1: definitely two thousand and five was definitely the era of emo.
- 14:32Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's yes, yea, it is what it is,
- 14:38Speaker 2: it's not.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, look, thank you so much for having a
- 14:42Speaker 1: chat with us today.
