Transcript
- 0:00Hello. Everyone and welcome back to the
- 0:02Kenny Wallace Show. Brought to you by Jags, the
- 0:06Leader in high performance aftermarket car parts.
- 0:09Remember to go to Jags. Dot com right there.
- 0:16Love that die cast. Well, all right, let's get right
- 0:19to it. Line grinder.
- 0:25Line grinder. LINE Grinder.
- 0:29Said to me on social media, he said.
- 0:33It's hard to believe. That Denny Hamlin has fifty
- 0:37wins. Also hard to believe Martin Trux
- 0:40has more. Wins than Dale Junior.
- 0:43Kenny Wallace, do you? Think both of these drivers were
- 0:47better than Dale Arnhardt Junior?
- 0:50When you rattle off the. Names automatically I think.
- 0:53No, but you line the stats up. Is Denny Hamlin and Martin
- 1:00Shreks? Are they better than Dale
- 1:03Earnhardt Junior? Then we scroll on down a little
- 1:08bit more here and the conversation.
- 1:10Gets ongoing, gets really good. And you know, I responded and I
- 1:19said that the great Bill Elliott.
- 1:24Told me this and I'll never forget it, he said.
- 1:26Herman. Racing's all about timing and
- 1:30circumstances, and he's right. And here's why.
- 1:34Because when you look at Denny Hamlin, he has never been with a
- 1:38different team. Denny Hamlin has won.
- 1:40All these races with one team, you look at Martin Truex, Martin
- 1:46Truex, he really. Got going with that Furniture
- 1:51Rd. Team won the championship, then
- 1:54all of A sudden Martin Truex. Gets hooked up with where he's
- 1:58at right now, which is Joe Gibbs.
- 2:00Racing and and. He's rolling, so Greg Hartman
- 2:06says comparisons. Are weak, in my honest opinion,
- 2:10sports. Change circumstances do change
- 2:15in teams. Well, you have to be funded.
- 2:18Gotta have a lot of money. Remember Dale Jarrett?
- 2:21He didn't win all that much and went on to have a nice career at
- 2:26Gibbs so before. I give you my opinion.
- 2:32I want to tell you what line. Grinder came back and said.
- 2:35And this is where the conversation.
- 2:37Starts, I believe D EI, which is Dale Earnhardt Incorporated
- 2:43under Dale Senior, The Man in Black #3.
- 2:47Would have rivaled Hendrick Motorsport.
- 2:50To this day. They were on such a roll, Okay.
- 2:57I always call that the disclaimer.
- 2:59These are things we need to know so we can carry on the
- 3:03conversation. All right, what's my opinion on
- 3:08all this? Well, it has been brought up
- 3:10before and. This is not old news.
- 3:13We have talked about this before, you know, a couple years
- 3:16after we lost the great. Dale, Dale Earnhardt.
- 3:20Dale Senior The Man in black. Also a little controversy.
- 3:24Is he Dale? Senior.
- 3:26You know their real names were Ralph.
- 3:28I call him Dale Senior, the man in black because Dale Senior
- 3:31means senior, but Dale Senior once said I'm not a senior
- 3:36Ralph, his dad was, so that's a whole another story, but.
- 3:39I'm still going to call him Dale Senior because to me that
- 3:42differentiates. Wow, that was a big word that.
- 3:46Make sure you know that Dale Senior means number three man in
- 3:49black and Dale Junior is the. #8 so the way I look at this is
- 3:57Dale Junior. Was destined to be way better.
- 4:02Than what he ended up there was timing and circumstances.
- 4:07Remember Dale Earnhardt Junior? Is a dear friend of mine.
- 4:12We text each other all the time. We call each other all the time.
- 4:15Now these are disclaimers. These are these are not name
- 4:19dropping. So when you look at Dell and Art
- 4:23Junior, he had a. Couple concussions, right?
- 4:26He he remember the big one out there at Fontana, California,
- 4:29coming off at Turn 4. Then he admitted to the public.
- 4:33Man, I wasn't right. And then the big one, the one
- 4:36that's hard for me to talk. About, because I don't really,
- 4:42you know, like to criticize people unless it's.
- 4:44Warranted, but this is just what happened.
- 4:47Dale Earnhardt Junior, could not.
- 4:49Get along with Teresa Earnhardt. Teresa was the.
- 4:53Widow of Dale Senior So we lost Dale Senior and when we lost
- 4:59Dale Senior, Teresa ended up running DEI.
- 5:02Now if you remember, I don't know where the car's at.
- 5:07I had the Pennzoil car up there, but when I drove the Pennzoil
- 5:12car, remember Steve Park got hurt.
- 5:15I drove that Pennzoil car, Teresa Earnhardt.
- 5:18Was the sole owner and Dale Earnhardt junior for 10.
- 5:22Races was I was a teammate to him, so remember I drove.
- 5:28Underneath Teresa Earnhardt as the sole owner.
- 5:32And and and Dale Junior was driving the Budweiser.
- 5:35Car and I was Dale Arnard Junior's.
- 5:39Make believe teammate for 11:50 races.
- 5:43So I'm Privy and I kind of know, right?
- 5:45All right, now that we got all this gathered up, here we go.
- 5:52In my honest opinion, if Dale Arnard Junior could have worked
- 5:59it out. With Teresa, he would have went
- 6:02on to win a championship and won it all.
- 6:06That's my opinion, unfortunately, you know.
- 6:11We've listened on The Dirty Mo. You know, radio the download,
- 6:16the Dale Junior download. It's no secret.
- 6:21I believe my opinion Dale Earnhardt Junior's growth.
- 6:27Was stunted, slowed down because he could not get along with
- 6:32Teresa Earnhardt. That group right there, even
- 6:38though Dale Earnhardt, Junior and the Yurys kind of split.
- 6:41Up a little bit. They could have got back
- 6:44together if DEI could have. Stayed going if Dale Earnhardt
- 6:51Junior. Stays at DEI DI never ends.
- 6:55It it keeps digging, right. So then they don't get along,
- 7:00they don't get together. We, you know, we don't overcome
- 7:04the head injuries we we don't get Tony Urie.
- 7:07Junior and senior back now remember this was.
- 7:10All documented just months ago where Dale and our junior
- 7:15interviewed Tony Urie Junior and they they aired it all out.
- 7:20But this shows about Kenny what? Is your opinion Dale and our
- 7:24junior does? Not have the amount of wins
- 7:26Martin Trex. And Danny Allen have I think
- 7:33Dale and our junior is an unbelievable driver and here's
- 7:36why cuz I. I've been behind him.
- 7:39I've told Dale Junior this. Before he can drive A.
- 7:42Car looser than anybody I've ever seen, and I'm impressed
- 7:45with that because he never drove on dirt.
- 7:48Dale Junior, in my opinion, watched his father just like.
- 7:52Chase Elliott, did you know sometimes you you become a
- 7:56product of your environment? I believe Dale Earnard.
- 8:00Junior, like Chase Elliott, has little children.
- 8:03Watched their dad's race and ended up emulating them and I
- 8:09think that's why Dale Earnhardt Junior was so good, right?
- 8:13This kid could drive a car, You know, loose, neutral.
- 8:18And stay going. He just barely turned the wheel.
- 8:20Turn and and go. On but when it all came to an
- 8:26end at DE I Dale. Junior goes to Henry Motorsport.
- 8:33Sounded good looked. Good clean Rick Hendrick.
- 8:38A good man. This is a good spot.
- 8:41It was the right decision because it was a good home, but
- 8:45the results were not as good. This is where.
- 8:51The bill Elliott. Phrase comes into me, Herman.
- 8:58Racing and life is all about timing and circumstances.
- 9:02We see this in professional athleticism to this day.
- 9:07You know, remember for some of us old guys, we put Tony Dorsett
- 9:13and Herschel Walker as running backs with the Dallas Cowboys,
- 9:16the greatest running backs of all time.
- 9:18And what happened? They ran into each other.
- 9:22We didn't. Have a Frank O Harrison.
- 9:24Rocky Bleier Like we had over there with the Pittsburgh
- 9:28Steelers. The Pittsburgh Steelers had a
- 9:32good line. They blocked for Frank O'hair's.
- 9:36The Dallas Cowboys had the best running backs.
- 9:39But they didn't have a good line and it didn't work out.
- 9:42Now I know, I know a lot of you're young, but that's what
- 9:45happened here with Rick Hendrick.
- 9:48And Dale Junior had it all. Dale Junior was just better
- 9:55right there with Tony. You're a junior, Tony, you're a
- 9:57senior. And and Junior said, You know.
- 10:02I'm sorry he said that to Tony Urie Junior.
- 10:08So once again, would Dale Earnhardt, Junior would.
- 10:16He have been better if he could have stayed at DEI.
- 10:19Now the reason this is a show, the reason this is the Kenny
- 10:22Wallace show is because that could have happened, OK, when?
- 10:28We lost Dale Senior that that's a.
- 10:30Whole another deal. Remember we lost.
- 10:32Dale Senior But DEI kept on going with Dale Junior right
- 10:39then. It all came to an end when Dale.
- 10:42Junior left and DEI ended up, you know, folding it.
- 10:49It's sad because we all. Wanted to see it and Dale,
- 10:53Junior said. It was fair.
- 10:55This was Dale, Junior told me. Because I said this.
- 11:01On NASCAR race day built by the Home Depot, I said it's just sad
- 11:07because you know, we we really wanted to see Dale Junior.
- 11:11Stay at DEI. That would have been a little
- 11:15easier to accept. But when DEI came to an end,
- 11:19it's like, you know, because it was a glorious time in NASCAR
- 11:25history and and let me remind you, this is a very big stat
- 11:29what I'm going to tell you. This stat is not to be
- 11:33overlooked, I was told by NASCAR executives.
- 11:36The highest of high. The highest time in NASCAR
- 11:41history. The most fans in the stands, the
- 11:44highest TV ratings was not, not when we lost Dale Senior.
- 11:50It was not when Dale Senior was living, which is shocking.
- 11:55It was when Dale Junior wore the.
- 11:57Hat backwards. Brought the MTV crowd.
- 12:00Brought the young kids. It was 2006, so when?
- 12:05Dale Junior came into NASCAR. It it rocket ship because it
- 12:11brought in a whole. New Age group and he was
- 12:14winning, so. We are at 13 minutes and I think
- 12:19that's long enough and I'm I'm going to end you with this.
- 12:24Yes, Dale Earnard Junior could have went on to win.
- 12:30More than Danny Hamlin could went on to win more than.
- 12:34Martin Schrucks could have went on.
- 12:37To win championships. And I do want to say this
- 12:42Pretend we're at a bar right now drinking beer.
- 12:45Because that's what we're doing. I know this does not matter.
- 12:49It's just a beer drinking conversation.
- 12:52But I'm here to tell you. In my opinion, there's no doubt
- 12:56in my mind that Dale Earnhardt Junior.
- 12:59If he could have stayed at DEI for all the reasons I told you
- 13:04not going to. Repeat myself.
- 13:07He could have been a multitime champion.
- 13:11He could have won well. Over 50 races.
- 13:15But it didn't happen. Life and racing and everything
- 13:25is all about timing. And this is where it ends.
- 13:20Bill Elliott was. And circumstances?
- 13:29All right, that's the Kenny Wallace Show.
- 13:31Talk it over. Give me your opinion.
- 13:34Respond right here. What is?
- 13:37Your opinion? Remember, we're on.
