1:48
Speaker 6: Welcome to the show. I don't know about you, but
1:50
Speaker 6: I woke up this morning. It was Sonny and seventy
1:52
Speaker 6: five degree. Positive thinking, folks, positive thinking. We they tell us,
1:58
Speaker 6: are slowly pulling out of this thing. Although most areas
2:03
Speaker 6: got a dusting of snow last night on an additional
2:06
Speaker 6: what we already have, so the winter storm that does
2:11
Speaker 6: not have a name, looks like it's heading out here
2:13
Speaker 6: at some point. And if you're wondering what I'm talking
2:15
Speaker 6: about doesn't have a name, I'll reference you to yesterday's
2:17
Speaker 6: show where we discussed winter storms and their names. And
2:21
Speaker 6: it's also a good easy way for me to remind
2:23
Speaker 6: you that if you ever miss any of the shows,
2:25
Speaker 6: you can go back and listen to them on the
2:27
Speaker 6: website on WHT network dot com or on the social
2:31
Speaker 6: media pages including mine in the stations as well. Another
2:34
Speaker 6: roads are bad this morning. Interstate's in pretty good shape,
2:37
Speaker 6: but the side roads, the back roads are still going
2:39
Speaker 6: to be slick, snow covered, ice covered. Crews are out
2:42
Speaker 6: there doing their thing, but there's still there's still bad.
2:44
Speaker 6: We so have a lot of people without power. So
2:46
Speaker 6: and of course the schools remain closed today, as you
2:49
Speaker 6: well know. And guess what. We've got another storm system
2:52
Speaker 6: coming in Friday night into Saturday. Models varying at this
2:55
Speaker 6: point one to three. Some models say three to five.
2:58
Speaker 6: Others say, but it's coming out of this south and
3:00
Speaker 6: that normally does not bode well for us. But that
3:03
Speaker 6: is coming in over the weekend, So there you go
3:06
Speaker 6: on that. All right, we got a lot to get
3:07
Speaker 6: to this morning. Coming up a little bit later on.
3:10
Speaker 6: There was some discussion under the dome yesterday about the
3:12
Speaker 6: high school transfer rule in sports and will the legislator
3:18
Speaker 6: legislation legislature do anything about it. There was some discussion
3:23
Speaker 6: about that yesterday. Fred Pursinger was watching it closely, the
3:25
Speaker 6: voice of high school Sports of West virgin He's going
3:27
Speaker 6: to join us and going back to the weather. I
3:30
Speaker 6: do want to tell you I'm going to bring in
3:32
Speaker 6: a little bit later on some folks from the city
3:33
Speaker 6: of Charleston. I do believe that Charleston may Or Amy
3:36
Speaker 6: Goodwin's going to be stopping by the studio to talk
3:38
Speaker 6: about the efforts to get rid of the snow here
3:40
Speaker 6: in Charleston, as we have just been hammered starting what
3:44
Speaker 6: it starts Sunday afternoon, Monday Tuesday, more snow on the
3:46
Speaker 6: way and so on and so forth. So I want
3:48
Speaker 6: to talk to those folks from the city of Charleston,
3:51
Speaker 6: including the mayor, about that. Coming up a little bit
3:53
Speaker 6: later on, but you can always weigh in. Well, it's
3:55
Speaker 6: big piglily wiggly hotline three zero four three four five
3:57
Speaker 6: fifty eight fifty eight. Tony the Taylor text zero four
4:00
Speaker 6: nine three five five zero zero. Wait let me bring
4:02
Speaker 6: it to the show now. Our good friend FROMAGDA newspaper,
4:05
Speaker 6: Steven Allen Adams, Good morning, sir.
4:08
Speaker 7: Good morning, happy twenty twenty five. Man. I coming in
4:14
Speaker 7: coming in heavy with the snow and ice.
4:16
Speaker 6: And you are coming in the I mean pret pretty
4:20
Speaker 6: dressed up there, man, I mean.
4:21
Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, a rockings pink because you know, real men
4:26
Speaker 7: wear pink, or I'm told I don't know if that's true,
4:28
Speaker 7: but I like it. Heading to the legislature here after
4:33
Speaker 7: the show to get ready for the first gaveling into
4:35
Speaker 7: the West Virginia Legislature for twenty twenty five. Now it's
4:38
Speaker 7: a one day affair. They're just here to open up
4:41
Speaker 7: election results and officially swearing members elect their leadership. And
4:46
Speaker 7: then they're also going to hear a goodbye address from
4:48
Speaker 7: Governor Jim Justice later this afternoon. But then they gavel out.
4:52
Speaker 7: They'll be back February twelfth, that's a Wednesday, to actually
4:56
Speaker 7: start the sixty day regular session of the Legislature.
5:00
Speaker 6: And in case you're wondering about this, why so, this
5:02
Speaker 6: is what happens in election years when we bring a
5:04
Speaker 6: new governor in, so that's why they're just gabbling. Normally
5:06
Speaker 6: they'd be hard at it in the next week or so,
5:08
Speaker 6: but this is the ceremonial thing.
5:10
Speaker 2: Today.
5:10
Speaker 6: The governor will give his final address. First, first Lady
5:14
Speaker 6: Kathy Justice will also give an address today and then
5:18
Speaker 6: they they'll gavel out until February the twelfth. Then we
5:21
Speaker 6: get ready for Governor Morrissey in his inauguration to see.
5:24
Speaker 7: I think this is done specifically to give the incoming
5:27
Speaker 7: governor time because again, legislative sessions typically begin in the
5:32
Speaker 7: middle of January for sixty days, but after aggubiatorial election,
5:37
Speaker 7: like he said, there's a little bit of a delay
5:40
Speaker 7: by about a month, and that gives everybody time to
5:44
Speaker 7: get their new leadership elected, get everybody sworn in, and
5:47
Speaker 7: gives the incoming governor time to prepare, including you know,
5:51
Speaker 7: working on the budget for the next fiscal year for
5:53
Speaker 7: school year twenty twenty six, So gives everybody a little
5:57
Speaker 7: bit of time to get adjusted.
5:58
Speaker 6: And of course the Morrissey and inauguration coming to next week.
6:01
Speaker 6: What do you think about your music, Gay, what do
6:03
Speaker 6: you think about them tapping the Marshall Tucker Band and
6:05
Speaker 6: Shannon Don't.
6:05
Speaker 7: Don't ask me about that. I listened to nineteen nineties
6:08
Speaker 7: alternative and punk ska, so I don't listen to a
6:14
Speaker 7: lot of that particular genre, but i'd say pretty good
6:18
Speaker 7: get I mean, certainly for an incoming governor. I think
6:23
Speaker 7: it's a a couple of bands that people do enjoy
6:25
Speaker 7: and they know the songs or whatnot, So it'll be
6:28
Speaker 7: very fun for those that pay that one hundred dollars
6:31
Speaker 7: to attend. Best of luck to you.
6:34
Speaker 6: So you're saying that Marshall Tucker band not known for
6:37
Speaker 6: their ska album.
6:39
Speaker 7: No, no, no, they definitely don't pick it up very often.
6:43
Speaker 6: Okay, all right, all right, So I want to talk
6:46
Speaker 6: to you about and we can go back to the
6:48
Speaker 6: legislator legislature. I'm having a hard time saying the legislature
6:51
Speaker 6: for some reason today. We'll go back to that a
6:52
Speaker 6: little bit later on. But I want to talk to
6:54
Speaker 6: you about the story out of Ohio, and that has
6:56
Speaker 6: to do with the school in Ohio and its ties
6:58
Speaker 6: to West Virginia. You don't know if you hear. The
7:00
Speaker 6: chief of staff of Governor Justin Brian Abraham was on
7:04
Speaker 6: the show yesterday on a talk line that is with
7:06
Speaker 6: a hoppy in TJ. Hoppy and TJ. Dave and TJ.
7:10
Speaker 6: And he was talking about it in saying, well, this
7:13
Speaker 6: is basically this money. I'll let you set up the stories.
7:16
Speaker 6: People know what we're talking about. As a matter of fact,
7:18
Speaker 6: let's go there. Have you set up the story, then
7:20
Speaker 6: I'll tell you what Brian Abraham said.
7:22
Speaker 2: Sure.
7:22
Speaker 7: In short, there is a Stupenville, Ohio based Catholic affiliated
7:27
Speaker 7: vocational school called College of Saint Joseph the Worker. They
7:30
Speaker 7: have a couple degrees in Catholic studies, but they also
7:34
Speaker 7: train you in various trades HVAC, electrical, carpentry, whatnot. Right,
7:40
Speaker 7: of course, Nordon Panhandle is a very very Catholic heavy
7:44
Speaker 7: area of the state, and so they want to come
7:48
Speaker 7: over into West Virginia and do the same thing. So
7:51
Speaker 7: they want to create a company that they can use
7:53
Speaker 7: to train apprenticeships apprentices in the weird In area. They
7:56
Speaker 7: want to give out scholarships to recruit West Virginia students.
7:59
Speaker 7: They want to perhaps a satellite campus, maybe here in
8:03
Speaker 7: the Canaw Valley somewhere. And then they had also had
8:08
Speaker 7: decided that they wanted to use some grant money from
8:11
Speaker 7: the Water Development Authority to try to create a conservative
8:14
Speaker 7: think tank. Now that apparently won't be happening because the
8:18
Speaker 7: contract between the WDA and the College of Saint Joseph
8:22
Speaker 7: the Worker pretty much prohibits that. So that's not going
8:25
Speaker 7: to happen though of course they can also do that
8:27
Speaker 7: on their own anyway, and that's where some of the
8:29
Speaker 7: controversy lies. They got five million dollars in a WDA
8:34
Speaker 7: Economic Enhancement Grant Fund award to be able to do this,
8:39
Speaker 7: So there's a lot of questions as to the timing
8:42
Speaker 7: because this happened very quickly. You have the incoming majority
8:46
Speaker 7: leader of the House. They'll get Pat mcgeehon out of
8:49
Speaker 7: Brook Hancock County that was an advocate for this program
8:53
Speaker 7: and push for this. You've got a situation where there
8:59
Speaker 7: could be a conflict of interest there. You got to
9:00
Speaker 7: not a situation where we have a lot of services
9:03
Speaker 7: in the state that do that type of job training.
9:06
Speaker 7: And of course the issue of whether this group is
9:09
Speaker 7: getting money for a conservative think tank, which looks like
9:12
Speaker 7: they're not. But still a lot of questions and.
9:15
Speaker 6: If I don't know, if you got an opportunity to
9:17
Speaker 6: hear Brian Abraham on the talk line yesterday, but he
9:20
Speaker 6: basically gave you know, he said, there's a lot of
9:22
Speaker 6: misinformation about there about this, and he says, look, this
9:26
Speaker 6: is not going to a his words, I'm very much
9:29
Speaker 6: paraphrasing not going to an out of state school per se.
9:32
Speaker 6: But this is going to have ties to West Virginia.
9:34
Speaker 6: Basically that they're going to be in West Virginia is
9:37
Speaker 6: basically what he's saying.
9:38
Speaker 7: Well, only because they're not here already. And on top
9:41
Speaker 7: of that, any misinformation that might be out there about
9:44
Speaker 7: this story was largely done because between the Governor's office
9:48
Speaker 7: and the WDA, they handled the information about this very poorly,
9:51
Speaker 7: which quite frankly has been par for the course for
9:53
Speaker 7: the governor justice administration, particularly his staff, have been very
9:58
Speaker 7: bad about letting bad in hang out there and then
10:01
Speaker 7: waiting forever to try to correct it, and then accusing
10:05
Speaker 7: reporters of being biased about it. I won't I'll be
10:08
Speaker 7: blunt here. I'll we got a few days left of
10:10
Speaker 7: this administration. I'll be glad when I don't have to
10:12
Speaker 7: deal with that type of mentality anymore.
10:14
Speaker 6: That was pretty blunt, Stephen. Sure is you put a
10:20
Speaker 6: tweet out, an AX out, an ex post about the
10:25
Speaker 6: about Justice not resigning in the comments that you know,
10:29
Speaker 6: I guess the Brian Abraham and and others have made
10:31
Speaker 6: saying that that he would have been in that position
10:33
Speaker 6: that was a good thing. I guess that he didn't
10:35
Speaker 6: because he was able to issue the emergency, the save
10:38
Speaker 6: emergency declaration. But your point is is that whomever the
10:41
Speaker 6: governor would have been, had we gone through that two
10:43
Speaker 6: or three governor cycle, that we may have be at
10:46
Speaker 6: Craig Blair, be at Randy Smith or whatever, that they
10:48
Speaker 6: could have done the same thing.
10:49
Speaker 8: Oh.
10:50
Speaker 7: Absolutely, it's part of the course. I mean, I know,
10:52
Speaker 7: keep using that phrase, but yeah, it's one of the
10:54
Speaker 7: first things you would do. I have a feeling the
10:56
Speaker 7: proclamation probably is a form letter somewhere that somebody could
11:00
Speaker 7: could fill out. I'm not saying it's not important that
11:02
Speaker 7: Governor justice't is there, because I think there are other
11:06
Speaker 7: reasons why he chose not to resign, early one of
11:09
Speaker 7: them being that you really needed to have no gap
11:13
Speaker 7: between the outgoing state treasurer and Riley Moore, who's now
11:16
Speaker 7: in Congress, had to take his seat and also had
11:19
Speaker 7: frankly more important responsibilities that required him to be there
11:23
Speaker 7: on day one, including the election of House Speaker Mike Johnson.
11:29
Speaker 7: On top of that, you had to have the new
11:31
Speaker 7: incoming treasure in this case, Larry Pack. You can't have
11:34
Speaker 7: a gap in between those two because when you resign
11:36
Speaker 7: a state treasure, your name comes off everything including paychecks,
11:40
Speaker 7: payroll sign Yeah, that's it. So you needed to have
11:43
Speaker 7: that gap. It was important for Justice to hang out
11:45
Speaker 7: for a little bit just to do that. But having
11:49
Speaker 7: Justice there because of this winter storm, which was not
11:51
Speaker 7: even contemplated at the time he finally announced that he
11:54
Speaker 7: was going to delay resigning. That doesn't really make any sense.
11:58
Speaker 7: Craig Blair could have shoot proclamation as acting governor, so
12:02
Speaker 7: couldn't Randy Smith. Uh So that doesn't really fly to me.
12:07
Speaker 6: So what's going to happen with delegated de Soto? Brad
12:09
Speaker 6: and I talked about this yesterday because I guess today's
12:13
Speaker 6: a very pivotal day in that because what exactly is
12:16
Speaker 6: going to happen. This is the uh uh, the delegate
12:19
Speaker 6: elect if you will, from the Eastern Panhandle that apparently
12:22
Speaker 6: threatened to kill other delegates or or something to that effect.
12:26
Speaker 6: I'm not trying to make a light of it, but
12:27
Speaker 6: that's pretty much what he did, and and so what's
12:31
Speaker 6: what's going to happen? I mean, how does this how
12:32
Speaker 6: does this play out?
12:34
Speaker 9: Yeah?
12:34
Speaker 7: Well, I mean keep in mind they had a closed
12:36
Speaker 7: door caucus before even those threats went flying, because there's
12:40
Speaker 7: a lot of questions about incoming delegate to Soto's resume,
12:43
Speaker 7: particularly in regards to his military service, and that tends
12:46
Speaker 7: to really upset people. You lie about your military service,
12:48
Speaker 7: stolen voler and that sort of thing. So they had
12:51
Speaker 7: already voted behind closed doors to move forward with expelling him.
12:56
Speaker 7: Then the threats happened, which of course didn't add more
12:59
Speaker 7: fuel to the fire and certainly mean that they're probably
13:02
Speaker 7: not going to see him. But the question that I
13:04
Speaker 7: think they're still trying to figure out. The last I
13:07
Speaker 7: heard is he's now switched to a registered Democrat. He
13:11
Speaker 7: of course is on house arrests, So I'm not sure
13:13
Speaker 7: even how he gets to Charleston to be formally swore.
13:16
Speaker 6: As I said yesterday, that's not House of Delegates arrest,
13:18
Speaker 6: that's house arrest, meaning his house, right, So.
13:20
Speaker 7: You've got a situation where they want to try to
13:23
Speaker 7: avoid they want to try to expel him without swearing
13:26
Speaker 7: him in. I don't know how you do that, but
13:30
Speaker 7: I'm not a lawyer or parliamentarian, so maybe they're they
13:33
Speaker 7: have found a way. The last I heard, they were
13:34
Speaker 7: still trying to figure it out. Because if they swear
13:37
Speaker 7: him in then expel him, well, a Democrat is going
13:41
Speaker 7: to have to be appointed in his place based on.
13:43
Speaker 6: Just he switched his party.
13:45
Speaker 7: Rules over the last decade have been changed to allow
13:48
Speaker 7: for that. I don't see what the big deal is
13:50
Speaker 7: in that, because one extra Democratic member is not going
13:53
Speaker 7: to undo their supermajority, so and that's a Republican district.
13:56
Speaker 7: Republicans will take that back in two years anyway. So
13:58
Speaker 7: I don't know it's a big deal to just go
14:01
Speaker 7: ahead and swear him in. But if they figure it
14:03
Speaker 7: out away, I'll be sitting up front when they go
14:06
Speaker 7: through it, so I'll be curious.
14:07
Speaker 6: It's going to be a very eventful what should what
14:11
Speaker 6: typically is an uneventful day. You know, this is going
14:14
Speaker 6: to be very eventful today over at the Capitol.
14:16
Speaker 7: Very eventful.
14:17
Speaker 10: Of course.
14:17
Speaker 7: You know we're getting to it. You got new members
14:20
Speaker 7: that are going to be hiring, new standing committees coming in,
14:23
Speaker 7: you got new leadership on the House side. We still
14:26
Speaker 7: have some slots on the Senate side with Senate incoming
14:29
Speaker 7: Senate President Randy Smith that still need to be filled.
14:34
Speaker 7: We're waiting to hear what those are going to be.
14:36
Speaker 7: So a lot of new faces, a lot of new
14:39
Speaker 7: people in leadership that weren't prioring leadership before, a lot
14:43
Speaker 7: of learning curves, I think for this incoming legislative session.
14:46
Speaker 6: All right, and people can read your stuff where Stephen.
14:48
Speaker 7: Sure Parkersburg News and Sentinel, Wheeling Intelligentier we're in daily

15:28
Speaker 4: I can.
15:28
Speaker 6: I have an ungodly amount of knowledge in my head
15:31
Speaker 6: about Elvis. But Little Richard was the architect Little Richard.
15:36
Speaker 7: You know, I'll accept that. I love Little Richard for sure,
15:38
Speaker 7: and I know he claims that title. Okay, you know
15:41
Speaker 7: they can at least wear the crown collectively, not to at.
15:44
Speaker 6: All discount or take away anything that the Elvis did.

20:19
Speaker 3: I'll be back in the office. I've got I've got
20:21
Speaker 3: a dash to meet somebody quickly after this show, But
20:23
Speaker 3: then I'll be back in the office. If you could
20:25
Speaker 3: live your name and number for me, that would be
20:28
Speaker 3: that would be great. That's number one. Number two. We
20:31
Speaker 3: should always be directing you to call them and doing
20:33
Speaker 3: that outreach, so anybody listening is that's you know, it's
20:37
Speaker 3: kind of like our non emergency number or call call
20:40
Speaker 3: because we can make a log of it. But I'll
20:43
Speaker 3: make sure also number three that I circle back with
20:45
Speaker 3: my team as well to check on what calls we
20:48
Speaker 3: received yesterday, assuming it was yesterday or the day before,
20:53
Speaker 3: because our our team was taking calls for the past
20:56
Speaker 3: two days in the office and still this morning as well.
20:58
Speaker 3: Because we do have people without power, and we do
21:00
Speaker 3: have people without power in the city. I mean, I think,
21:02
Speaker 3: excuse me. Stonehead still has about eighty plus Mount Alpha
21:06
Speaker 3: has about ninety five plus, Porter fifty fifty plus people.
21:13
Speaker 3: Hickory still has you know, close to one hundred people
21:16
Speaker 3: without power. So you know, while the numbers are going down, Dave,
21:19
Speaker 3: there's still hundreds of people with just in the city
21:24
Speaker 3: of Charleston that are still without power. And you know,
21:26
Speaker 3: it gets to a point where we want people to
21:29
Speaker 3: call in because, by the way, if you need help,
21:31
Speaker 3: you need assistance, you need a place to go, we
21:33
Speaker 3: want to know those things. We have not received those calls.
21:37
Speaker 3: You know, the Emergency Operations Center. We have been up
21:40
Speaker 3: there with our Homeland Security director Chad Jones. Alum Creek
21:46
Speaker 3: has had some folks who really needed a place to stay.
21:50
Speaker 3: So while we you know, while we're the city, we
21:52
Speaker 3: also work hand in glove with the county. Right and
21:54
Speaker 3: who I call our quarterbacks, C W. Sigmund, who's just

22:12
Speaker 3: and you need our help to get to a place

22:42
Speaker 3: What a storm, Yeah, yeah, absolutely, it's you know, I
22:45
Speaker 3: was talking to our public works director, Brent Webster. Well,
22:48
Speaker 3: I've talked to him more than I've talked to my
22:50
Speaker 3: husband over the past was since Sunday, and this isn't
22:54
Speaker 3: This is so unique and different than many of the
22:57
Speaker 3: storms that we see. You know, snow inches fine, you know,
23:00
Speaker 3: I hate to say, so what who cares? We're good
23:02
Speaker 3: at that. This is like New York stuff, you know,
23:05
Speaker 3: on a you know, on a hard day for them.
23:08
Speaker 3: That ice really gets us when salt doesn't work on ice.
23:11
Speaker 3: But also when the ice comes down on the trees. Remember, yeah,
23:15
Speaker 3: we've got seventeen plowing salt trucks going nine ways to
23:20
Speaker 3: Sunday and literally twenty four hour shifts, twenty four hours ship.
23:25
Speaker 3: I mean, we're running it, we're napping folks, we're getting
23:28
Speaker 3: them back on the road safely. But when the trees
23:32
Speaker 3: come down, I also have to take care of those trees.
23:36
Speaker 3: And by the way we had set we had a
23:38
Speaker 3: lot of drivers. I won't give the number now because
23:40
Speaker 3: it may have changed. A lot of drivers get stuck.
23:43
Speaker 3: So if my big salt truck is getting stuck, you're
23:45
Speaker 3: getting stuck, Dave. That's just no question about, especially in
23:48
Speaker 3: the early morning hours. But also when you have that
23:52
Speaker 3: many pieces of heavy equipment on the road. I'm thankful
23:56
Speaker 3: that people, you know, I hate it for small businesses.
23:59
Speaker 3: If you can go out and have lunch today, go
24:01
Speaker 3: out and buy something today that they had to shut down.
24:03
Speaker 3: But I'm thankful because fewer people on the street means
24:06
Speaker 3: our guys can make it and get through. But it's
24:09
Speaker 3: not just our police, it's not just our fire, it's
24:12
Speaker 3: not just our ems, it's not just our salt truck drivers.
24:14
Speaker 3: It's also our maintenance crew. I mean, we have been
24:17
Speaker 3: all hands on deck with a maintenance crew. Because if
24:19
Speaker 3: anybody knows anything about heavy equipment, you know, and I
24:22
Speaker 3: talked about this the other day, blades break. I got
24:25
Speaker 3: chains on tires. Sometimes that doesn't always work out, and
24:29
Speaker 3: so when I have to take a big piece of
24:31
Speaker 3: equipment into a shop, it's going to take me hours
24:34
Speaker 3: and hours to do it. And so if I had
24:36
Speaker 3: one thing to say to folks who are frustrated today, which,
24:38
Speaker 3: by the way, I get it. A lot of folks
24:40
Speaker 3: are Nobody wants to see this last and certainly no
24:44
Speaker 3: one wants to hear, especially our guys who have been
24:46
Speaker 3: working their fingers to the bone. Hey, Friday, Saturday, we're
24:49
Speaker 3: going to get another system. Oh, by the way, on Monday.
24:53
Speaker 3: You know, patient wears thin. You know, when you're dealing
24:56
Speaker 3: with something, you know, one day it's okay, two days,
25:00
Speaker 3: three days, four days? Are you joking with me? But
25:04
Speaker 3: you know we're going as fast as we can, and
25:08
Speaker 3: we're doing as best as we can. We got more
25:11
Speaker 3: snow than we expected. The iceer was thicker in areas
25:15
Speaker 3: than we expected. And you know the calls that I'm
25:18
Speaker 3: getting now are well yesterday, let me go backwards. Yesterday
25:22
Speaker 3: when I was out with Rick and we were doing
25:24
Speaker 3: his route, I was in his salt truck. If you
25:26
Speaker 3: really want to know how difficult it is riding as
25:28
Speaker 3: salt truck with me, It's tough. It's tough going. It's
25:31
Speaker 3: not just tough going because you're on hillcliffs. We live
25:35
Speaker 3: in the mountain state. You're sliding and I want to
25:38
Speaker 3: get to you, and I'm trying to get to your hill.
25:40
Speaker 3: But you're sliding, so our drivers have to remain safe.
25:44
Speaker 3: But then you know, you turn the corner and have
25:46
Speaker 3: somebody say, do you mind to plow my driveway please
25:48
Speaker 3: while you're here.
25:50
Speaker 5: I can't.
25:51
Speaker 3: I can't do that. I can't go on to private
25:53
Speaker 3: property and I hate doing that. Right, please, may or
25:56
Speaker 3: just just swing around real quick. My mom really means
26:00
Speaker 3: I get it. Or you know, somebody said to me, well,
26:03
Speaker 3: you know they plowed my road, but my car is
26:06
Speaker 3: on the road, and now they've plowed my road in
26:09
Speaker 3: I'm the mayor of the city. I get it. I
26:11
Speaker 3: had snow packed up at the end of my drive.
26:14
Speaker 3: I shoveled it. I had my oldest boy who was
26:17
Speaker 3: in town, and my husband and I. We did ours.
26:19
Speaker 3: We did three other neighbors on what's Sunday night night. Yeah,
26:24
Speaker 3: so it it is frustrating and it is problematic. But
26:29
Speaker 3: if you have an emergency and you have something wrong,
26:31
Speaker 3: you down nine one one. If you must get out
26:33
Speaker 3: of your house, that's the best thing that I can
26:35
Speaker 3: tell you to do.
26:36
Speaker 6: This is emergency though, this is this is not I
26:38
Speaker 6: need to go to work or I need to run
26:40
Speaker 6: through Tokrogard.
26:41
Speaker 3: That's exactly right. Or I'm concerned about. Here's the big
26:44
Speaker 3: thing I want to and I mentioned it the other
26:46
Speaker 3: day when we were talking. You haven't heard from somebody.
26:49
Speaker 3: Please call us? Yes, please let us do a wellness chack.
26:52
Speaker 3: We're good at it. Please let us do it.
26:54
Speaker 5: Don't you do it?
26:55
Speaker 11: Let me do it.
26:56
Speaker 3: You know, the roads are good today, our primary roads
27:00
Speaker 3: are good today. How good are they going to be
27:02
Speaker 3: in for? How long? It's twenty two degrees outside?
27:04
Speaker 6: Yeah, and we've got these little bands of snow, little
27:07
Speaker 6: snow squalls that are that are moving in. I know
27:10
Speaker 6: where I live there was probably another half inch to
27:13
Speaker 6: an inch, which doesn't sound like anything if you get
27:16
Speaker 6: that snow and you haven't already had all the snow
27:18
Speaker 6: and ice on top of it. But yeah, it can
27:20
Speaker 6: it can.
27:21
Speaker 3: It can definitely impact, and it's exhausting. And as you're
27:24
Speaker 3: watching the snow go down, think about our guys who
27:26
Speaker 3: run arout. You know, I was with Rick yesterday all day.
27:29
Speaker 3: You know, you run arout and you think good, you
27:32
Speaker 3: go in, you get yourself a hot cup of coffee
27:34
Speaker 3: and a biscuit, and you turn around. You're like, wait
27:36
Speaker 3: a minute, I just cleaned up this place. It's like
27:38
Speaker 3: mothers of the world. You know, wait a minute, what
27:41
Speaker 3: happened here? So but they're they're doing they're doing really
27:46
Speaker 3: good work. They are secondary streets. I get a lot
27:49
Speaker 3: of calls in that, Amy, why can't you go down
27:51
Speaker 3: to the flats of the East and West side and
27:54
Speaker 3: parts of Kannall City. Primary roads are hills right where
27:57
Speaker 3: people get into accidents and crash is go slow and
28:03
Speaker 3: we're doing as best as we can.
28:04
Speaker 2: You know.
28:04
Speaker 3: Jimmy Riston said it best this morning he was talking
28:07
Speaker 3: to Chris Lawrence. I think this morning I heard one
28:09
Speaker 3: of his clips, Dave saying that, you know, we're getting
28:12
Speaker 3: to the secondary roads today, but our primary was just
28:17
Speaker 3: like we are, you know, the primary roads that lead
28:19
Speaker 3: to you know, hospitals, emergency care centers, hills that you
28:23
Speaker 3: know see crashes and so that's you know, that's priority.
28:27
Speaker 6: Talking again with Charleston, Mary and me. He's shure a
28:29
Speaker 6: good one of the Dave Allen Show. And five any

28:45
Speaker 6: slash apprenticeships today for more information. Explain, Mayor, and you
28:48
Speaker 6: kind of touched on a little bit there. Explain the
28:50
Speaker 6: priority again, because people if they come into the city
28:52
Speaker 6: of Charleston. For example, let's say I live in you know,
28:55
Speaker 6: fill in name here. Let's say I live in Kanas City,
28:58
Speaker 6: I work in downtown Charleston. I work at a in
29:00
Speaker 6: downtown Charleston, and I come into Charleston and I see
29:03
Speaker 6: that maybe Virginia Street, I see maybe Koyer is in
29:06
Speaker 6: good shape, but maybe the side streets, maybe the court
29:11
Speaker 6: streets of the world, maybe not as good. Explain how
29:15
Speaker 6: that works.
29:16
Speaker 3: Well, First of all, let me go let me go
29:18
Speaker 3: back to the priority spots. I need to get people
29:21
Speaker 3: in and out of our emergency services center, and that
29:24
Speaker 3: includes our hospitals. So that's always number one. Number two,
29:28
Speaker 3: people that are coming in from the interstate or roads
29:31
Speaker 3: that are a high traffic area, we try to do.
29:34
Speaker 3: My road, by the way, where I live in my
29:36
Speaker 3: house is not a priority area. It's not. But if
29:40
Speaker 3: there are roads that connect to schools. Bridges are also
29:44
Speaker 3: a priority. Why because they freeze and people get into
29:47
Speaker 3: accidents there. So there is a method to the madness
29:51
Speaker 3: of the roads that we hit first. Secondary roads are
29:54
Speaker 3: just those side streets in and around your neighborhoods Now,
29:58
Speaker 3: some folks will say, well, my neighborhood was and we
30:00
Speaker 3: try to get to those. But hills hills are certainly first.
30:05
Speaker 3: And I will say this too. You know, we start
30:08
Speaker 3: every year with sixty five hundred tons of salt, dave
30:11
Speaker 3: fish something like that. We try to keep up with it.
30:16
Speaker 3: We just bought another two thousand because we need to
30:20
Speaker 3: keep We need to keep up with it. We need
30:23
Speaker 3: to make sure that we have enough. But when you
30:25
Speaker 3: throw down salt, everybody knows saltan I just don't really work.
30:28
Speaker 3: But when you do throw down salt, and it is
30:30
Speaker 3: super effective when you plow on salt, it is, but
30:32
Speaker 3: it also wreaks havoc on our roads yep, and so
30:36
Speaker 3: welcome holes. Yeah, the flip side. People are going to say, now,
30:39
Speaker 3: my roads are terrible. I got you. I got you
30:42
Speaker 3: because you know, we were in a car yesterday and
30:45
Speaker 3: we were scraping and part of our blade literally snapped
30:49
Speaker 3: off that's how thick it is, that's how hard it is.
30:52
Speaker 3: Some of these surfaces, you hit a man you know,
30:55
Speaker 3: a manhole or man cover. There you go. Now you've
30:59
Speaker 3: popped the blade off. Now I've got it. So there's
31:01
Speaker 3: a lot of there's a lot of money and a
31:03
Speaker 3: lot of time and a lot of energy on operations.
31:06
Speaker 3: And so I give Brent Webster and all of our
31:08
Speaker 3: folks all the credit in the world because it's a
31:11
Speaker 3: very tough and tedious task. Knowing the routes and being
31:17
Speaker 3: a skilled driver that is so important. Are skilled drivers
31:22
Speaker 3: doing these routes. They do an amazing and amazing job.
31:25
Speaker 3: I bet you most folks if they were on that
31:27
Speaker 3: hillcliff with me yesterday and this big, huge truck sliding sideways,
31:31
Speaker 3: would go no, thank you.
31:32
Speaker 4: Yeah.
31:32
Speaker 3: I even grabbed the I did the month. I grabbed
31:35
Speaker 3: the bar handle and ricks Okay, I said, yes, yes, sir,
31:39
Speaker 3: I'm fine.
31:40
Speaker 6: We call those and I'll clean it up for radio.
31:42
Speaker 6: We call those crap bars.
31:43
Speaker 3: Yeah, because crap I got it, grabbed the handle several times.
31:47
Speaker 9: And mayor before we.
31:48
Speaker 6: Let you go, I want to talk about the impact
31:50
Speaker 6: on businesses. Yeah, sure, Because I saw a post and
31:52
Speaker 6: this wasn't in Charleston. This was outside Charleston. I'm a
31:54
Speaker 6: good friend of mine who owns a coffee shop, and
31:57
Speaker 6: she said, once we open again, because she was announcing
32:01
Speaker 6: that they would be closed today. They have not been
32:04
Speaker 6: opened since last Saturday. They not normally open on Sundays anyway,
32:07
Speaker 6: so she said, I haven't had any income since Saturday.
32:10
Speaker 5: That's right.
32:11
Speaker 6: Once this thing does pass and people can safely go out,
32:14
Speaker 6: please go to these small businesses. It doesn't matter what
32:18
Speaker 6: the small the coffee shop, you know, the whatever the
32:22
Speaker 6: retail establishment. Go to these I mean the Targets and
32:26
Speaker 6: the Walmarts of the world. You know, God bless them
32:29
Speaker 6: for what they do. And they employ a lot of people.
32:30
Speaker 6: I get that they're going to be okay, but who's
32:34
Speaker 6: going to need you? Are these small businesses Once this
32:37
Speaker 6: is it's very similar to COVID accept a lot shorter
32:41
Speaker 6: timeframe that soon needs you. So please, once you can
32:44
Speaker 6: get out and pass by, I'm going to say this
32:48
Speaker 6: passed my Starbucks and go and go go to the
32:51
Speaker 6: locally owned places like that.
32:53
Speaker 3: Thank you. As a daughter of a small business owner
32:56
Speaker 3: who is his business was shut down as well, Listen,
33:00
Speaker 3: there's a reason why I called Booth Goodman last night
33:02
Speaker 3: and said, let's order and we did. We ordered out,
33:04
Speaker 3: which by the way, my boys were like yay uh
33:08
Speaker 3: to a to a small business, a local restaurant here
33:11
Speaker 3: in town. And we ordered up to take it home
33:13
Speaker 3: last night number one because we were working late. But
33:15
Speaker 3: most important, that's what we're.
33:17
Speaker 7: Going to do.
33:17
Speaker 3: I didn't bring bring my lunche in a lot of
33:19
Speaker 3: the times and eat at my desk or eat while
33:21
Speaker 3: I'm on the run. Not today, We're going to go downtown.
33:23
Speaker 3: We're going to visit as many places as we possibly
33:25
Speaker 3: can to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner today. That would
33:28
Speaker 3: be my request. If you can get out, please do it.
33:31
Speaker 5: And you're you're.
33:32
Speaker 3: Absolutely right hit the you know, I'd love for you
33:35
Speaker 3: to go to me a Cupas and Coco's and you
33:38
Speaker 3: know other good places that have a great cup of coffee,
33:40
Speaker 3: tailor books and go to those places and by the way,
33:44
Speaker 3: they have the best coffees.
33:45
Speaker 2: Well.
33:45
Speaker 6: Steven Allen Adams on his way in brought in donuts
33:48
Speaker 6: from a local from.
33:51
Speaker 3: So excited any breakfast this morning.
33:53
Speaker 6: Absolutely may the Mayor's not a big donut person, but
33:56
Speaker 6: you may been that rule today, right.
33:58
Speaker 3: Now, today, I might like, I don't know. I'm not
34:01
Speaker 3: going to tell you here's the problem with here's the
34:04
Speaker 3: problem with me. You don't know this, but my office
34:06
Speaker 3: team knows this about and if they're listening, they're rolling
34:08
Speaker 3: their eyes.
34:09
Speaker 8: But this is what I do.
34:10
Speaker 3: I take a knife and I cut one in half
34:14
Speaker 3: because I want this, you know, whatever this one is.
34:16
Speaker 3: But I don't want to touch the other side, just
34:17
Speaker 3: in case you want to split one with me. But
34:19
Speaker 3: normally what happens is I'll eat more than just one half,
34:23
Speaker 3: so they'll be like four or five half. So if
34:25
Speaker 3: you see halves up there when you go later on today,
34:27
Speaker 3: it's because I was half.
34:29
Speaker 6: In your don all right, Mayor we'll get through this.
34:33
Speaker 3: Our community, thanks for our businesses for being patient with
34:36
Speaker 3: us and working with us. We really appreciate y'all. Thank you,
34:38
Speaker 3: and thank you Dave. Thanks for keeping everybody informed. And
34:42
Speaker 3: it's it's uh, it's hard. I know you also had
34:44
Speaker 3: to spend time away from your family, and people don't
34:46
Speaker 3: appreciate that. Media folks do that as well, but I do,
34:48
Speaker 3: and I appreciate it.
34:49
Speaker 6: Uh, And before you know what, we'll be talking regatta.
34:52
Speaker 3: I know I can't wait.
34:53
Speaker 6: We'll be talking about We'll be talking about how hot

Speaker 6: The voice of high school sports in West Virginia, Fred
37:38
Speaker 6: Pursingers here, Good morning, sir, Good morning Dave. All this
37:41
Speaker 6: stuff going on with the weather and so on and
37:44
Speaker 6: so forth, and it's very it's it's serious. I get that.
37:47
Speaker 6: Uh Monday morning, Fred Persinger is here in the building
37:51
Speaker 6: at what six six thirty something like that.
37:53
Speaker 4: I'm usually here by six fifteen every day.
37:55
Speaker 6: And you, like myself drive in from Putnam County because
37:58
Speaker 6: you are from Beckley, sir, and you're like, yeah, whatever.
38:01
Speaker 4: Whatever, this is not I'm so used to driving in
38:04
Speaker 4: weather like this in the winter time. I mean, no,
38:07
Speaker 4: this doesn't bother me at all. You know, My issue
38:10
Speaker 4: sometimes is the folks in front of me.
38:14
Speaker 6: Other than that, I'm good, get out of the way. Yeah,
38:15
Speaker 6: all the way. Friend's coming through. Fred Big Day at
38:18
Speaker 6: the Capitol today, Steve and I talked about Brattlebey, covering
38:21
Speaker 6: of course TJ and Dave Wilson Wills as well, but
38:24
Speaker 6: the lead story of this morning wv Metronews dot com.
38:27
Speaker 6: Several athletic directors from around the state spoke to lawmakers
38:31
Speaker 6: under the Dome yesterday about the transfer rule in the state. Now,
38:34
Speaker 6: you and I have talked about this in the past,
38:35
Speaker 6: those guys spoke yesterday to the Joint Standing Committee on Education.
38:39
Speaker 6: This bill, that passed in twenty twenty three, allowed student
38:42
Speaker 6: athletes to transfer schools at least one time to keep
38:45
Speaker 6: their athletic eligibility and to put this into a number's perspective.
38:50
Speaker 6: In twenty twenty three, four hundred and thirty two kids
38:54
Speaker 6: transferred for athletics. That number raised by one last year
38:57
Speaker 6: in twenty twenty four. But here is a number that
38:59
Speaker 6: stuck out to me all this yesterday, Fred. In twenty
39:01
Speaker 6: twenty four, there were two hundred and fifty five football
39:04
Speaker 6: games high school football games that were cut short due
39:08
Speaker 6: to a running clock. In other words, one team was
39:11
Speaker 6: down so badly comes second half that the coaches staffs
39:14
Speaker 6: get together and say, just run the clock. So when
39:17
Speaker 6: we have a change of possession or whatever, we don't stop.
39:20
Speaker 6: We just get through it. And I mean that's a again,
39:25
Speaker 6: two hundred and fifty five too, So take us back
39:29
Speaker 6: to yesterday.
39:29
Speaker 4: Okay, bottom line is this though what you said the
39:32
Speaker 4: number there, and I think the three words you used
39:36
Speaker 4: really says it all. Just get through it. That's four wards, Yeah,
39:41
Speaker 4: that's forwards. But anyway, that's not what we remember for
39:47
Speaker 4: Friday night lights. You don't want to just get through it,
39:51
Speaker 4: and that's what was happening. I understand. You don't want
39:53
Speaker 4: it to get out of hand and it's eighty two
39:55
Speaker 4: to nothing, and those kind of things we saw in
39:57
Speaker 4: that first year of the transfer portal. But I I
40:00
Speaker 4: got a telephone call last night from Delegate Dana Ferrell,
40:02
Speaker 4: who's on the committee that we were talking about. And
40:05
Speaker 4: Dana and I have been talking about this several times
40:07
Speaker 4: since this first thing is that started a couple of
40:10
Speaker 4: years ago. What can we do to make it better,
40:13
Speaker 4: to make it right? And I like what they have proposed,
40:19
Speaker 4: at least it's.
40:21
Speaker 6: Personally.
40:22
Speaker 4: I wish to do away with it completely, that's my
40:24
Speaker 4: first thing. But to do it the way they're going
40:26
Speaker 4: to do it now, or wanting to do it now,
40:28
Speaker 4: i' let me state that still got to pass everything.
40:31
Speaker 4: But I know that he was telling me last night
40:33
Speaker 4: that State Senator Eric Tarr is seemingly on board with
40:37
Speaker 4: this and that I think that's huge. Same thing with
40:40
Speaker 4: Amy Grady. That's huge. Being in the education part of it.
40:44
Speaker 4: As far as wanting to you can still transfer, Okay,
40:49
Speaker 4: they will allow you, though, because a lot of kids
40:52
Speaker 4: are wanting to come back now to their original school
40:56
Speaker 4: and you couldn't if you transfer. Like you said, you transfer,
40:59
Speaker 4: Once you done, that's it. You got to stick it out.
41:01
Speaker 4: You can go back to the school. You just can't
41:03
Speaker 4: play athletics. So the way he was telling me last
41:06
Speaker 4: night that they're thinking about a proposal that would allow
41:11
Speaker 4: you to transfer back to your regular school as long
41:15
Speaker 4: as you did it before you were a senior. If
41:18
Speaker 4: you can't do it in your senior year, but you
41:20
Speaker 4: could transfer back as a sophomore junior ceed transferred as
41:24
Speaker 4: a freshman, you could come back to your old high school.
41:27
Speaker 4: I think that's good. I think that helps the kids
41:31
Speaker 4: that you know. Sometimes, Dave, you know as well as
41:33
Speaker 4: I do. You want to jump at that change. Boy,
41:36
Speaker 4: the grass really looks greener at the school that just
41:38
Speaker 4: won three state championships in a row. But you get
41:41
Speaker 4: there and all of a sudden, you say, man, I
41:42
Speaker 4: miss I miss my buddies, I miss the guys.
41:44
Speaker 6: Thing's happening in college exactly right.
41:46
Speaker 4: So this gives you an opportunity to go back if
41:48
Speaker 4: you want before your senior year. I like the fact
41:53
Speaker 4: that they are doing something about it, because it just
41:56
Speaker 4: set in limbo last year. I was hoping last year,
41:59
Speaker 4: after they saw the debacle that it was that it
42:01
Speaker 4: caused in the first year, I thought, last year, maybe
42:04
Speaker 4: they'll do something and we won't be affected by it.
42:07
Speaker 6: But they didn't.
42:07
Speaker 4: They couldn't get it passed, so hopefully this year that
42:11
Speaker 4: it'll be different once they get the session rolling.
42:13
Speaker 6: Do we have any hopes? I mean, what are the
42:15
Speaker 6: I mean, yeah, they were talking about it yesterday, but
42:18
Speaker 6: is this actually going to and you talked to Dana
42:20
Speaker 6: Ferrell try to have him on the show here real
42:22
Speaker 6: soon as well. I mean, do you think there's a
42:23
Speaker 6: good possibility that will see some wholesale change here?
42:26
Speaker 4: Dana felt very confident. And Dane has been really to
42:29
Speaker 4: me the guy that's been kind of pushing this, you know,
42:32
Speaker 4: because he sees the importance of it. You know, Dana Ferrell,
42:35
Speaker 4: he's involved in a lot of things other than just
42:38
Speaker 4: the legislature. I assume still at South Charleston High School,
42:43
Speaker 4: and he's got another venture that he's into that he
42:46
Speaker 4: sees high school athletics a lot. So again, he was
42:49
Speaker 4: very very positive last night when he and I spoke
42:51
Speaker 4: on the phone. So hopefully again, I think it's great
42:56
Speaker 4: that they're doing something about it. At least they're talking
43:00
Speaker 4: about it, and last year they did very little talking
43:02
Speaker 4: about it.
43:02
Speaker 6: And like you, I had heard some some some chatter,
43:06
Speaker 6: some rumors out there that some of the UH and
43:08
Speaker 6: I say Republicans, because that's that's who's in charge with
43:11
Speaker 6: the super duper duper majority. And you mentioned the name,
43:15
Speaker 6: and I've not talked to I had Eric tar on
43:16
Speaker 6: the show yesterday, but we didn't talk about that. But
43:18
Speaker 6: Eric Taramy grading some of these others. I've heard rumors
43:21
Speaker 6: that there are others, uh that that that are kind
43:24
Speaker 6: of saying, Okay, well, maybe we need to look at
43:26
Speaker 6: this because initially the whole idea I think behind this
43:30
Speaker 6: was and a lot of the a lot of the
43:32
Speaker 6: Republicans kind of said, well, it's kind of it's a
43:34
Speaker 6: free market. They can go wherever they want. Education choice,
43:37
Speaker 6: and you know, and that's that's very common that comes
43:39
Speaker 6: from the Republican camp. I'm not hating on it. I'm
43:42
Speaker 6: just saying it is what it is, that school choice
43:44
Speaker 6: for parents and so on and so forth. I think
43:46
Speaker 6: a few of them now may be taking a look
43:48
Speaker 6: at this, uh and saying, well, let's let's look at this.
43:52
Speaker 4: You know, I think it if it was just you
43:54
Speaker 4: mentioned education. If it was just education, that's a different twist.
43:58
Speaker 4: If you if I go to if my son or
44:00
Speaker 4: daughter wanted to go to a school to take a
44:02
Speaker 4: different course, that was not offered at the present school.
44:05
Speaker 4: I get that, okay, but that wasn't the problem. The
44:08
Speaker 4: problem was they were going because they wanted to play
44:10
Speaker 4: for last year's state champion, because they wanted to be
44:13
Speaker 4: a state champion again. Grass is not always greener, and
44:17
Speaker 4: they I think a lot of students found that out.
44:20
Speaker 4: But they were stuck with the original bill that passed.
44:23
Speaker 4: That's been an effect for two years. They were stuck.
44:25
Speaker 4: You can go back to your old school. You just
44:27
Speaker 4: can't play ball, or you can't play I don't care
44:29
Speaker 4: what it was, football, basketball, or whatever. You can't play.
44:32
Speaker 4: So this would change that, as long as you do
44:35
Speaker 4: it before you're a senior. And I think that's a
44:37
Speaker 4: step in the right direction. And I'll be honest with you.
44:39
Speaker 4: He was telling me another part of that proposal, and
44:44
Speaker 4: I can't remember what he was talking about, to be
44:46
Speaker 4: honest with you, I was.
44:48
Speaker 6: Into something else. Say it's all good, it's good, but
44:51
Speaker 6: it's all good. It's all good.
44:52
Speaker 4: And he's very, very confident that they think they can
44:56
Speaker 4: get this through now. And at least he says more
44:59
Speaker 4: than just my fingers. So we'll see what happened, all right.
45:01
Speaker 6: We had a text here I said, our legislators need
45:04
Speaker 6: to put an end to this nonsense with high school
45:06
Speaker 6: transfer rules. Also, the NCAA Board of Directors needs to
45:10
Speaker 6: stop the liberal transfer rule in the college sports and
45:12
Speaker 6: the ridiculous nil pay for play craziness. It's common sense,
45:16
Speaker 6: says a text before I let you go, Fred, I
45:20
Speaker 6: do want to say this because I know you will
45:22
Speaker 6: not bragg on yourself, but I will mention this a
45:25
Speaker 6: big honor. Yes, so you, sir, as you were named
45:28
Speaker 6: by the National Sports Media Association. Is what was a
45:31
Speaker 6: sportscaster of the year. Yes, sports Caster of the year.
45:33
Speaker 6: That's a nationwide thing.
45:34
Speaker 11: Man.

Speaker 4: and Steve Cotton and Mark Martin and Keith Moorhouse and
45:56

46:02
Speaker 4: an honor.
46:03
Speaker 6: To be nominated, and then.
46:04
Speaker 4: When Dave Goren from the National Association called me at

46:18
Speaker 4: part of June in Greensboro, North Carolina, where my wife
46:22
Speaker 4: will go and we'll have a good weekend.
46:24
Speaker 6: Well, I was gonna say, so the lovely Jan's going
46:26
Speaker 6: with you, so there's no chance for me to ride along.
46:28
Speaker 6: Is that what you're saying.
46:29

46:31
Speaker 4: I'll take my wife, all right?
46:32

50:20
Speaker 10: as weather, I thought Day three, the commute was a
50:22
Speaker 10: little more difficult this morning. More people out, things still slushy,
50:25
Speaker 10: so be careful out there.
50:26
Speaker 6: Yeah, and there's more snow coming, I mean off and on.
50:28
Speaker 6: We'm gonna have the snow squalls throughout today. All right,
50:30
Speaker 6: what's on the big show today, mister Meadows.
50:31
Speaker 10: So coming up at ten oh six, It is the
50:32
Speaker 10: opening day of the legislature. Not to be confused with
50:36
Speaker 10: the first day. The first day will be in February,
50:38
Speaker 10: but today is the opening day, so they'll gavel in,
50:40

50:43
Speaker 10: McIlhaney joins us at ten oh six to tell us
50:45
Speaker 10: about all things that's happening at the legislature today.
50:48
Speaker 6: What's up at the capitol. Ten thirty three.
50:49
Speaker 10: Kelly Allen, she's the executive director of the West Virginia
50:52
Speaker 10: Center for Budget and Policy. You know, we've got the
50:54
Speaker 10: tax cuts coming. The triggers are coming in. They went
50:57
Speaker 10: in on the first. We'll talk with her about those
50:59
Speaker 10: tax cuts and also the Hope Scholarship. She has some
51:02
Speaker 10: thoughts she'd like to share. Coming up at eleven oh six,

51:23
Speaker 10: Taylor Green is writing legislation.
51:25
Speaker 6: Well, so yeah, we'll get into.
51:27
Speaker 9: All of that.
51:28
Speaker 6: And I think the big takeaway from there is what
51:30
Speaker 6: Marjorie Taylor Green can write. That's that's that's editorial comment
51:33
Speaker 6: for me. So I'm sorry. This is why they don't

51:41
Speaker 10: He'll join us coming up at eleven thirty three, and
51:43
Speaker 10: we're going to talk about this transfer rule. And I
51:46
Speaker 10: think Re Red Persinger, who I admire and see as
51:49
Speaker 10: a voice of reason, said it best. The legislature needs
51:52
Speaker 10: to get out of this.
51:53
Speaker 4: Yeah.
