- 0:01Here's your host, Alex Garrett. Well, welcome back to the Alex Scaret
- 0:12Podcast Network. And with me today once again is Sergeant Betsy Smith. Is
- 0:19so great to have you back, Sergeant Betsy Branton or Smith. Alex,
- 0:23I am so glad to be back with you there. We have so much
- 0:27to talk about as always. Well, I know that you're part of the
- 0:30National Police Association, which means you have you know ties and you have info
- 0:34from every police department. So I want to start with the fact that we
- 0:38just were actually civilians just captured this migrant, illegal migrant who sexually assaulted raped
- 0:46a thirteen year old girl in Queens. And I'm so proud of those civilians.
- 0:52I'm sure you are too, and they took it into their own hands
- 0:54and then got the cops to arrest them. But does this mean the migration
- 1:00crisis is a little overwhelming for the police departments across the country. What's going
- 1:03on? Where do we stand with all of this? Well, you're absolutely
- 1:08right. We have enough crime here in the United States with our own citizenry
- 1:14without having to import it. And yet here we are, since the start
- 1:19of the Biden administration, we have at least at least seven million illegal immigrants
- 1:29coming into this country, and we're at the point now where we know that
- 1:36they're not just coming to you know, to claim asylum, they're not just
- 1:41coming to get jobs. And in fact, this is you're too young to
- 1:47remember this, Alex. But back in the nineteen eighties, when I was
- 1:52a young police officer, we had something similar, but on a smaller scale
- 1:56occurred. It was called the Murial boat lift, where Fidel Castro in Cuba
- 2:01at that time basically threw open his prisons and his insane asylums and he sent
- 2:07them all to Florida. And what we saw was one of the biggest crime
- 2:10spikes in the United States. And unfortunately, that's exactly what we're seeing now.
- 2:17Countries like Venezuela, El Salvador and more Chile are sending their criminals here
- 2:28and they're criminally insane, and so we are seeing our own citizen we suffer,
- 2:34including the case you just talked about, and of course we had the
- 2:38murder of Lake and Riley. We just had the finally solving the murder of
- 2:45a young woman in Maryland, all by illegal aliens. Well, and I
- 2:53tell you what the other thing about the city is I saw another migrant,
- 2:57you know, shot at the NiPd a couple of up a couple of weeks
- 3:00ago. I mean, it's just rampant. And on top of all this,
- 3:05do they think Biden administration things it's a great time to grant amnesty.
- 3:08And I know they only say it espouses and children, but it runs the
- 3:13risk of granting it to everybody, doesn't it. Well, absolutely, Again,
- 3:17if we go back to the very early eighties, Ronald Reagan when he
- 3:23was president, then sort of got hoodwinked by the opposite party and allowed amnesty
- 3:31to occur. And basically what that did was open a floodgate that we really
- 3:38hadn't been able to put a stop to until the Trump administration. We and
- 3:46I think that this new Biden amnesty plan, if you will, you know,
- 3:51talking about basically DACA folks, you know, deferred action for uh,
- 3:59you know, young people, people who were brought here unwittingly, you know,
- 4:03by parents or grandparents whatever, under the age of sixteen. The thing
- 4:10is is this will continue to open the floodgates because just remember, just a
- 4:15couple of weeks ago, the Biden administration said, Okay, we're going to
- 4:19issue an executive order on immigration. Now understand that President Biden has had the
- 4:26power for the last three and a half years to take back operational control of
- 4:31the borders. He hasn't done this, but a couple of weeks ago he
- 4:36said we're going to I'm going to issue an executive order. It really didn't
- 4:40do much. Everybody admits that it didn't do much, and I think this
- 4:46is some political desperation on the part of the federal government. So now with
- 4:51this new plan, it's we're talking about spouses of you know, people who
- 4:59are illegal married to people who are in this country legally, or married to
- 5:03American citizens, and there's some other things. But when you read this,
- 5:10and I encourage everyone sit down and read this plan, it's already litigation has
- 5:15already started as of yesterday, and this will continue to be litigated. So
- 5:23we're just going to tie up the future of these people in the court system.
- 5:28And of course we're going to tie up our court system when our immigration
- 5:31courts are already beyond capacity by years, if not a decade. So this
- 5:40is really a political desperation move, and it does nothing to help people who
- 5:47are here illegally that want to get right. For the government. With the
- 5:53government, it also does nothing to stop the flow of illegal not just from
- 6:00the southern border where I live here, but from the northern border. Now,
- 6:05as a part of the National Police Association, have you yourself visited the
- 6:10border in recent time? I mean, what are you seeing when you go
- 6:13down there? If you do visit, well, I do. I actually
- 6:16right now, I'm sitting in my studio about eighty miles from the southern border
- 6:19in southern Arizona. I live in a border county, and so yeah,
- 6:25I visit the border frequently. And what we see first and foremost, and
- 6:31we have a lot of a lot of contact with border patrol and other federal
- 6:36agencies. One of the things that we see is that the United States of
- 6:42America does not have operational control of the southern border. If you don't believe
- 6:46that, everybody needs to come down here and see it, because we truly
- 6:50the Mexican drug cartels, which we now call the Mexican crime cartels, who
- 6:56operate in at least sixty different countries in the world, they have controlled the
- 7:01operation of the They have operation control of our southern border. So what we
- 7:06see here in southern Arizona, I live in the Tucson sector, and that's
- 7:12where about forty percent of illegal aliens come through the Tucson sector. So in
- 7:17the county where I live, Pima County, Arizona, our local resources are
- 7:24so depleted because when all these illegals come, we have to deal with them
- 7:30on a local level. So of course we have homelessness, we have fentanyl.
- 7:35I also live in an area where we have several Native American reservations,
- 7:42So for example, the tahonah Odem nation where I live near, they are
- 7:48seeing the destruction of their land by these illegals who come onto their land and
- 7:57they literally chop down their tree to to burn the firewood because they can't stay
- 8:05warm. I know everybody thinks southern Arizona's hot all the time, but at
- 8:07night it's actually pretty chilly. We also see a lot of our social service
- 8:16resources being depleted in dealing with the illegals. We call them NGOs, right,
- 8:24non government organizations. Everyone always sees us. So organizations like Catholic Services
- 8:28and the Red Cross. People understand the Red Cross is deep into the illegal
- 8:35alien trade. They all get federal, state, and local dollars from time
- 8:41trying to take care of these people. But so in addition to just to
- 8:46the depletion of local resources, we see and have been seeing four years,
- 8:52the sexual assault of children of a young girls and young boys as well as
- 9:01young women. We also see at the airport here in both Tucson and in
- 9:05Phoenix, you see undocumented illegal aliens who get a special line at the TSA
- 9:13checkpoint. While I have to show my newly issued Arizona driver's license because we
- 9:18have to have a special one to get on an airplane, now, they
- 9:22just have to show that CBP APP on their phone and they have a Manila
- 9:26envelope with their paperwork. They're all wearing new clothes, new shoes, they
- 9:31have a brand new iPhone. They have a pocket full of cash and uh
- 9:35and there they get it from right. That's that's the whole They get it
- 9:39from us, from you and me and everybody listening. It's all tax dollars,
- 9:43and they get it from the government and they get it from the NGOs
- 9:48and alex. So many of the people I see at the airport, and
- 9:52I see along the roadways, and I see at the signs, and I
- 9:56see in the shelters are Middle A. They are young military aged men from
- 10:05so many different countries. We see them from the Middle East like Yemen,
- 10:11we see them from North Africa. We see and these are people who are
- 10:16not here to assimilate, and we really don't know why so many of them
- 10:20are here. But again, what happened last week, right, we took
- 10:24at least eight of them into custody terrorist ties and I'll tell you, I'm
- 10:30sure National Police Association and yourself followed that story very closely. That was really
- 10:35I got to commend NYPD LAPD feeling they really did a great sting to get
- 10:41all these guys. What goes into those kind of operations to bring to bring
- 10:45down terrorists like that, maybe you have some insight for us, well,
- 10:48absolutely, first and foremost, we have got to have authorities looking for these
- 10:54kinds of people. So there's you know, there's always a lot of electronic
- 10:58chatter around there. There's also just human to human contact, so you know,
- 11:03sometimes you know, we have you know, people who are not criminals,
- 11:09but they are in spaces where these criminals are, whether it's in a
- 11:13shelter or it's in a mosque, places like that. And we also have
- 11:18informants that work for different federal organizations. But it's a lot of monitoring so
- 11:26much of this chatter and understanding where these people are coming from and what they
- 11:31want to do to this nation. The FBI director Christopher Ray has been talking
- 11:37about this for months and months now, right, He's testified on Capitol Hill
- 11:41at least three times and talking about the blinking red light of terrorism. And
- 11:46yet so many people forget that nineteen men brought this country to its knees on
- 11:54nine to eleven oh one, Nineteen men from other countries who have largely overstayed
- 12:01their visas, and we're here illegally, we are heading in that direction again,
- 12:05and frankly, we're ignoring it. Well, it's uh, especially when
- 12:11I look at other ignored warning signs. How's the homeland security Biden's Homeland security
- 12:18Uh, basically being told by their own inspector general, Hey, you're not
- 12:22doing enough at the border, and they still do nothing. Did you wish
- 12:26my Orcis would have been impeached? I gotta ask you that. Well,
- 12:31you know, actually my orcus uh, you know, they did vote to
- 12:35impeach him because he Here's the thing, you can't continue to lie to the
- 12:39American people, And that's exactly when you when you sit on Capitol Hill like
- 12:46my Orcus has done and just say the border is secure, we have operational
- 12:52control of the border, et cetera. So you can't just lie. You
- 12:54have to tell the truth, you know. And if if this administration,
- 12:58if this Department of Justice wants our border to be wide open, which it
- 13:05is, then they just need to level with the American people. And that's
- 13:11what we all need to demand of our political leadership, is that you at
- 13:18least tell us the truth. And that is not happening. You know.
- 13:24The National Police Association, we don't. We don't get eaten up with,
- 13:26you know, different politicians. You know, we don't endorse, we don't
- 13:31encourage people who to vote for, but we tell people to get involved.
- 13:37We encourage people to vote, and we have got to understand that we the
- 13:43people, are the ones who are ultimately controlling this. And one of the
- 13:50things we talk about, you know, not just from a border perspective,
- 13:54but from an entire law and order perspective, is that we're the ones electing
- 13:58these politics, not just we can all eat enough. Who's gonna be president?
- 14:01Isn't that who sits on your county board, who's going to be on
- 14:05your town council, who is making decisions about who's prosecuting cases. These are
- 14:11some of the things that we need to look at to look at. And
- 14:16for example, here in southern Arizona, it's our county board that is taking
- 14:22our tax dollars and giving them not to homeless veterans, not to help citizens
- 14:28with drug addiction, but to illegal aliens who are coming into this country for
- 14:35unknown reasons. And I know in Arizona's already been a hotbed of other stuff
- 14:41going on right with the election and everything, that we don't have to go
- 14:43there. But are you worried about your state overall with all the things that
- 14:48have been going on in Arizona? Or are you worried that they're you know,
- 14:52it's is Arizona in trouble when they keep allowing all this stuff to be
- 14:56happening. Well, unfortunately, Arizona has become much more dangerous than we were
- 15:05even five and six years ago. You'll laugh, Alex, because my husband
- 15:09moved me here ten years ago from Chicago, and he promised me two things.
- 15:16He promised me a much safer environment and free and fair elections. So
- 15:20now I tease them all the time about, Hey, what happened to our
- 15:24free and fair elections. That's a non police issue. But when I look
- 15:31at safety, I look at my now hometown of Tucson, Arizona. We're
- 15:37the most dangerous town in Arizona and that that you know, and yet we're
- 15:43so much smaller than Phoenix, and it just it really breaks my heart.
- 15:48And it's not just because of the illegals, but we have got to understand
- 15:52that this massive influx of fentanyl and other related drug so much of it comes
- 16:02from you know, up from Mexico into the southern border, and we you
- 16:06know, feanol kills hundreds of thousands of people in this country. And yet
- 16:14you know, what are what are our political leaders talking about. They're talking
- 16:17about we've got to obeyan assault weapons and things like that. If we could
- 16:22just get a handle on the illegal drugs pouring into this country, and if
- 16:27we would understand the deadly nature of fentanyl and trank and all the related synthetic
- 16:36drugs that are coming into this country, we could truly take back my state
- 16:41of Arizona, and we could we could take back this nation. You know,
- 16:45we've got about eight hundred thousand law enforcement officers in this country that are
- 16:52desperately dealing with all of these issues. Drugs, illegal crime, you know,
- 16:59illegal alien crime, and so much more. And uh and while I
- 17:03see a great deal of support for the American law enforcement officer, now we
- 17:10still need so much more. Oh, we we absolutely do. And on
- 17:14that note, you know you mentioned the courts and the cops arrest the immigrant,
- 17:19the illegal immigrant, and then they're back out on the street. You
- 17:22mentioned the courts a little while ago. How can we vote differently so that
- 17:26we have judges in there that don't just play into this pc BS if you
- 17:32will, it's it's it's insanity if you ask me, Well, Alex,
- 17:37you bring up such an incredible point, because here's the thing. We again,
- 17:41we get so concerned right with who's going to be president and who's going
- 17:45to be our congressman and all that stuff, that when the when you look
- 17:48at your ballot, you know, a lot of us are coming up on
- 17:52primaries, you know, Virginia just had one yesterday. But when you look
- 17:56at your ballots, both your primary ballots, but then your national state and
- 18:02local ballot in November, pay attention to those local races, and a lot
- 18:07of us wonder, well, what I don't know anything about my judge.
- 18:11You know, this judge that I elect. Find out you can go online
- 18:17and you can find out how that judge rules. You can find out who
- 18:22supports that judge. And so you're exactly right. Don't just when you are
- 18:27voting in November, don't just fill out all the national and the state stuff
- 18:33and blow off the local stuff. Go and look at every one of those
- 18:37judges races, look at your county prosecutor, look at things like and again
- 18:44this stuff, a lot of this stuff is regional, whether or not you
- 18:47get to elect your judges, things like that. But look at who is
- 18:49your Justice of the Peace candidates, or look at who are your constable candidates.
- 18:53There are so many lower level offices that a lot of us as voters
- 18:59don't know a lot about, but they directly affect the law and order in
- 19:04our communities. And also take a look at your sheriff, your sheriff's race
- 19:08for example. Again here in my county, you know, we we have
- 19:15a big sheriff's race, and I don't think a lot of people are really
- 19:19informed about that. So voters need to inform themselves. And if you don't
- 19:25know how to do that, call the local party office of whatever party you're
- 19:30affiliated with and ask them who and find out who are the most law and
- 19:36order people that I can vote for, including judges. Now, I don't
- 19:42know how this immigration judge did actually tell authorities to deport this rapist here in
- 19:51New York and he was still here. How does that happen? What's that
- 19:53mechanism where the judge does rule that the guys we deported and he's not tell
- 19:59us a little bit about how that happens. Well, there's something called an
- 20:02ICE detainer. So you know we've heard in the last like six five six
- 20:07years, you know the you know, ICE, the Immigration Services, the
- 20:11actual organization that is in charge of deporting people. So ICE will put a
- 20:18detainer on someone based on a judge's ruling like what you're talking about. But
- 20:26very often the sheriff's departments in these very woke counties in these blue areas,
- 20:33or the city lock ups, the city police departments in these very blue areas
- 20:38will refuse to honor that federal ICE detainer, and so people who are slated
- 20:45for deportation end up getting released. And people who are American citizens should be
- 20:52enraged by this because if the federal government issues a detainer for you, as
- 21:00an American citizen. Let's say you're in jail for a DUI and the FBI
- 21:04wants to talk to you about something separate. They issue a detainer. You
- 21:08know what, You're gonna be sitting until the FBI comes and talks to you.
- 21:12But illegal aliens in this country, even criminal illegal aliens, have sort
- 21:18of obtained this super citizen's status, and so these detainers are ignored and they
- 21:26are released. This all goes back to if everybody remembers Reclaim Wall Street and
- 21:32Antifa and all this is prior to twenty twenty when there was this big push
- 21:37to disband ICE, and Antifa spent many, many, many nights, over
- 21:45one hundred nights trying to shut down the ICE office in downtown Portland. They
- 21:51set fire to the federal courthouse. All of that ICE has been under attack
- 21:56wrongly for many, many years. So many of these woke law enforcement organizations,
- 22:03and yes there are woke organizations, they ignore these ICE detainers and it's
- 22:08very frustrating. And now we have police departments like LAPD and Seattle PD that
- 22:15are going to hire and are currently hiring illegal aliens. Alex it's crazy.
- 22:21Well tell me about that, because there's there's a couple of thoughts I had
- 22:25to that. Firstly, obviously, if they are going to do that,
- 22:30hopefully they get those that want to actually root out those that are even you
- 22:36know, that are dangerous, and that would be my hope that those that
- 22:38want to join the police force actually want to root out the evil. Do
- 22:42you think that's going to happen though, I those are llegal immigrants join the
- 22:45force, that they actually go after their own or would that not happen?
- 22:48Well, here is the problem with and so just so folks understand, the
- 22:52Los Angeles Police Department last late last year and now this year, the Seattle
- 22:57Police Department have changed their policies so that they can they can take DACA recipients,
- 23:07people who are here or here illegally and do not have most do not
- 23:11have green cards and make them police officers. Now, the reason they're doing
- 23:15this is Seattle has lost seven hundred and twenty five police officers since twenty twenty.
- 23:22I mean, they're just bleeding cops. LAPD is in a similar situation
- 23:29and they're unable to get qualified people to come to law enforcement. And of
- 23:34course why is that Alex because we've had four years of the vilification and the
- 23:41demonization of this profession. So young people are saying, why would I want
- 23:45to be part of this racist, you know thing called the police. So
- 23:51anyway, the problem with I'm certainly not saying that all DACA people are bad
- 23:56people. But here's the problem. Should we allow someone who is a non
- 24:03citizen because even if they're hired as police officers, these DACA people are going
- 24:08to be illegal aliens, non citizens. Do we want a system where a
- 24:15non citizen can arrest and detain and potentially imprison a citizen of this country.
- 24:25That's a very chilling thing that I think we as citizens all need to think
- 24:30about. There's another problem with DACA people, and because they are illegal aliens,
- 24:37according to the federal government, they cannot possess a firearm. So how
- 24:41are you going to be a police officer if you can't possess a firearm.
- 24:45Now, LAPD has been working with the Department of Justice to address this issue,
- 24:52But then again, so are you going to have shenanigans where the DOJ
- 24:56is going to allow, you know, a typically blue city to have illegals
- 25:02carry guns. But then in Texas, for example, they can't. This
- 25:07is we're sliding down a extremely slippery slope here, and I think it's bad
- 25:12for the country, and I think it's bad for the profession of law enforcement,
- 25:18absolutely, especially when they see that the legal system is and I know
- 25:22we don't talk about them as much, but as convicting you know, a
- 25:25certain number of President forty five, but not the local illegal alien that's really
- 25:30attacking a teenager. Right, That's kind of the feeling I get when I
- 25:34think about all this. It's just the injustice, if you will. But
- 25:38well, yeah, you're right. I mean, people are seeing that we
- 25:41have a multi tier justice system, and it breaks my heart personally because you
- 25:45know, Alex, I'm sixty five years old and I in nineteen eighty I
- 25:51took an oath to uphold the constitution of my state of Illinois as well the
- 25:56Constitution of the United States, and I see it being shipped away. Yeah,
- 26:00And I see that justice system that I once revered and trusted and appreciated
- 26:07and worked well within. Now I see that system really being bastardized. And
- 26:14I see Lady Justice having her blindfold ripped off, and that is not how
- 26:22this is supposed to work. It just yeah topic. You know, there
- 26:26is an amendment in the Constitution that says the president should you know, basically
- 26:32defend the borders and not let illegal aliens. And if it's in the Constitution,
- 26:37isn't it an impeachable offense. I feel like Congress goes up the wrong
- 26:41tree with all this, with what they're trying to do with the bidmen,
- 26:45instead of just going at it with the Hey, here's what the constitution says.
- 26:48No one's actually talking about what the constitution says. Would you be agreeing
- 26:52with that? Well? Yeah, Politicians don't like to talk about the Constitution
- 26:57until it directly affect them. That's one of the frustrating things about politics.
- 27:03Our sovereignty and that's what you're talking about. You are not a sovereignation if
- 27:08you do not control your borders. You know. I have traveled all over
- 27:12the world and they're, like I said, not a single country that I
- 27:15walked into or flew into where I didn't have to prove where I was from,
- 27:22who I was, and why I was in this country where I am
- 27:25not a citizen. So we do not have control of our borders. I
- 27:29don't think anyone will dispute that so that means we are not a sovereign nation.
- 27:34And in the Constitution, you know, we are supposed to be controlling
- 27:42our borders. We are also supposed to the government is supposed to have a
- 27:48handle on the safety of its citizens, and yet we are ignoring this.
- 27:56Here's an interesting fact. Crime in Venezuela. It continues to go down every
- 28:03week. You know why, Alex because the criminals that are the Venezuelan criminals
- 28:10are coming to the United States. Very often they are assisted by their own
- 28:15government. So we have again criminals from countries like Venezuela. They're not coming
- 28:19here to assimilate. They're coming here to prey on our citizens. This immigration
- 28:27system has gone well beyond people coming here for safety or for a good job
- 28:34or whatever. We cannot have over seven million people where we have no idea
- 28:41who they are, where they're from, running around this country. We are
- 28:45no longer a sovereign nation. And I got to ask you, does it
- 28:51piss you off, Sergeant Smith, Betsy Smith, when you see even an
- 28:57American citizen who becomes when they shoot someone. I want to get to the
- 29:02guns for a second, because when a legal shoots someone, when an American
- 29:07citizen shoots someone, It's always about the gun, not about the person.
- 29:10Doesn't that Fissy Wof as a member of law enforcement and a speaker on all
- 29:15of this, well, of course it does. You know, the National
- 29:18Policesociation is one of the is the most pro Second Amendment police organization in this
- 29:22country. Let's get Let's just have an example of Father's Day weekend of this
- 29:27year, seventy one people shot in Chicago, nine of those fatally. We
- 29:32also had mass shootings in Oakland County, Michigan, Massachusetts, Columbus and Cincinnati,
- 29:41Ohio, Round Rock, Texas. And I could go on and on
- 29:45and on. Just in Father's Day weekend twenty twenty four, we had over
- 29:48three hundred people shot, seventy three killed. And what are we talking about?
- 29:56We're talking about the gun now, Alex I own None of my guns
- 30:00have ever hurt anybody, except for the occasional deer or antelope for food.
- 30:07My guns are not criminals. It is a choice to be a criminal.
- 30:12It is a choice to pick up a firearm and commit a crime with it.
- 30:18But especially the left, the anti gun people, they don't want to
- 30:22talk about the people committing the crimes. They just want to talk about the
- 30:27guns, and their solution is to take away everyone's guns, and that is
- 30:33not going to happen in the United States of America. That ship has sailed,
- 30:38all right. I want to focus on NY sixteen because I know you're
- 30:41following, But there was this incredible ad released about how Jamal Bowman, who
- 30:47of course was the firearm puller in Congress last year, but he apparently allowed
- 30:52a cup killer to be honored on the Brugs High School Wall of Honor.
- 30:56You are familiar with that story. But anybody in Congress who does that,
- 31:00isn't he centered for that instead of the bell the alarm ring. I mean,
- 31:03he should be centered for something like that and maybe even expelled, you
- 31:07know. It just it's incredible that he was allowed to do that and get
- 31:11away with it. Well, pulling that fire alarm was a criminal act and
- 31:15it really did not get properly addressed. But we see this all the time
- 31:21where we see certain politicians who who revere these cop killers and they they will,
- 31:30you know, like Assada Shakur is a is a great example. Even
- 31:33Barack Obama talked about her as a freedom fighter and this and that, you
- 31:37know, this goes back to the nineteen sixties, to the Black Panthers.
- 31:44Even more recently, we had politicians, including the President of the United States
- 31:52and other politicians talking about the ten year anniversary of the death of Michael Brown.
- 31:56You know, even though we know hands up, don't shoot was an
- 32:00absolute lie. And the police officer who shot Michael Brown, who was a
- 32:07criminal, he was a felon and a gangbanger. The police officer was absolutely
- 32:15found to have done nothing wrong. But we keep talking about these criminals and
- 32:20revering them, and that's exactly what Jamal Bowman did and what it does.
- 32:25It's so disingenuous because again, you know, you're telling young people that we're
- 32:32going to revere criminals. Look, there are kids in this country right now
- 32:37that are attending grade school at the George Floyd Elementary School. There are several
- 32:42of them around this country. Why we were revering criminals when we should be
- 32:47revering military heroes and police officers and those good teachers and preachers and like you
- 32:55said, citizen heroes who stepped in in New York to capture a thug,
- 33:02to capture a rapist. We have our priorities rather screwed up in this country
- 33:07very often, and I'm wondering if that was done in the AOC's district.
- 33:12I think it was actually where where there's rape happening, is Corona covers her
- 33:16district. I mean, that's just that's disgusting too, that she wouldn't even
- 33:22condemn this. I haven't heard the squad condemning that. I ever heard the
- 33:25squad condemning the Free Palestine movement that is now telling Jews to get off the
- 33:30subways. I'm sorry to ramp sergeant, but it's just at least I've an
- 33:35ear that would agree with me here. You know that they're not condemning any
- 33:38of this, and that's the problem. Well, and it is a problem,
- 33:42you know when we when we talk about what's happening, for example,
- 33:47with uh, these these you know, pro let's face it, pro terror,
- 33:52pro Hamas, pro has Blah protesters. You know, this is pure
- 34:00and simple anti Semitism. And you know, we have we the last time
- 34:06that we had people on college campuses being stopped for trying to go to class,
- 34:13being stopped from trying to get to their residence halls. And I'm talking
- 34:16about Jews. Uh, you know, we had this in the fifties and
- 34:21sixties with African Americans, and where where is the outrage? Where is the
- 34:27outrage and anti Semitism? And unfortunately some of our political leaders are are the
- 34:34ones propagating this. You're you're absolutely right. When we look at some of
- 34:37the squad members, they're the ones who are propagating this anti semitism. And
- 34:45it's up to all of us. I've just got to say to people,
- 34:49it's up to all of us to to stand firm for our Jewish brothers and
- 34:53sisters, to stand firm against discrimination and against UH pro terror activities, and
- 35:01it's up to us to know the truth and understand the truth. And yet
- 35:07some of the squad members are also saying that, you know what, news
- 35:10outlets should not be talking about these crimes committed by illegal aliens, and that's
- 35:16that's wrong. We all need to talk about it, and we need to
- 35:21get loud and proud, quite frankly about our desire for sovereignty, our desire
- 35:28to control our own borders, and our desire to support the American police officer
- 35:34and our criminal justice system. Uh. Sergeant Smith, I got to ask
- 35:37you this because you're clearly a conservative, but do you have friends on the
- 35:44Democratic side that are just not speaking up that you want to speak up.
- 35:46I mean, are there people that you know on the left that agree with
- 35:51you but are afraid to speak up? If you will, well, you
- 35:54know, you make a good point because this should not none of what you
- 35:59and I are talking about should be a political issue. Right, people should
- 36:02be able to have safety, They should know that their nation is sovereign.
- 36:07They should be able to exercise their Second Amendment rights and their First Amendment rights
- 36:12as well. And sure I have friends and relatives that that we don't see
- 36:17eye to eye on politics, but you're absolutely right. Where I see people
- 36:22that are what I would kind of call old school liberals democrats, I think,
- 36:30well, there you go, there you go, and and that they
- 36:34they you know, we have some differences, but these are people who love
- 36:37this nation, who are patriotic, and who are frustrated with what they see.
- 36:45Let's not forget that just with the recent polling that came out, most
- 36:51Hispanics that are already in this country want mass deportation of illegals. Again,
- 36:59I live in Tucson, Arizona. This is a heavily Hispanic community. Our
- 37:04county is heavily Hispanics when you talk to Hispanics. Actually sit on a Hispanic
- 37:09coalition called Ganamos, and you know, this is a kind of a bipartisan,
- 37:15if you will, a group of people who get together and discuss things
- 37:20and we do Hispanic outreach. My husband is a Spanish speaker, so he's
- 37:24very invaluable, and we're reaching out to people who kind of think that they're
- 37:30Democrats, but actually when you talk to them about what their values are and
- 37:36their concerns about their children getting illegal drugs, and their concerns about illegal immigration
- 37:40and crime, that they are really more conservative. It's just that there's a
- 37:46lot of propaganda in our media, and there's propaganda from our politicians, and
- 37:53there's propaganda in some of our you know, gosh, schools and churches and
- 37:59things like that. Alex. That's why podcast I'm so much sure. I'm
- 38:02sure that the left side of things don't ask you for a podcast or anything
- 38:07like that. Right, they don't ask you to come on, right.
- 38:09I mean, that's why, That's why what you do is so very important,
- 38:15because you're out there, you're out there telling the truth, and there's
- 38:19I just had a discussion with a girlfriend this morning while I was flogging white
- 38:22dogs. I was talking to a friend on the phone and she and I
- 38:24were just talking about people that are just good people, and they want good
- 38:30things for their children and grandchildren, good things for their country, but they're
- 38:34just not very well informed. And I think that every single person out there
- 38:39needs to get better informed. Like we have an obligation to just get out
- 38:46of your local you know, newspaper or your little msm app or whatever you
- 38:52have on your phone and really search out some good podcasts and search out some
- 38:59alternative media and find out what is happening in this country so that you can
- 39:06make informed decisions, not just about your political leadership, but even where you're
- 39:10going to travel and what you're going to do and what your rights are as
- 39:15an American. We really need to be better consumers of information. Alex the
- 39:22National Police Association. I encourage everybody to go to Nationalpolice dot org because we
- 39:25have an incredible newsletter and we have a team of writers. They don't just
- 39:30write a bunch of right wing garbage. They do a bunch of extraordinary research
- 39:37and they talk about crime and law and order in this country. And we
- 39:44also do a lot of cool stories, like cool stuff about dogs and things
- 39:47like that, behind the scenes on how you know. And that's why I
- 39:52love Blue Bloods because Blue blood showed the lives of police officers that should be
- 39:55shown. I mean, that should be if they're going to roll in that
- 39:59TV though, because the teacher doesn't feel like teaching for a day, roll
- 40:02the TV and show Blue Bloods because that is a great information They talk about
- 40:07community building, Sergeant Smith, Blue Bloods is a great way to start because
- 40:10it just shows the daily life of a police officer and the family life of
- 40:15it. Well, and that's the thing. You know, my husband also
- 40:17a retired police officer. You know, we have four kids, and you
- 40:22know we struggled with those day to day law enforcement issues of working shifts and
- 40:28working on holidays and things like that. And plus you know, all of
- 40:31the the all the sadness that police officers see. You know, every year,
- 40:38police officers die two and a half more times by our own hand as
- 40:44we do by felonious assaults. Our mental health is so at risk, and
- 40:50and so you know that's one of the that's another reason why the National Police
- 40:53Sosociation exists because we're trying to help the mental health of the law enforcement officers
- 41:00because when you're you're already seeing the worst of the worst every day, but
- 41:05then when you are vilified in the media and by politicians and things like that,
- 41:09it really wears on you. That's why the badges are being turned into
- 41:15the NYPD at record rates that no one's seen before, because it's wearing on
- 41:19a lot of our men and women in blue, and it just seems like
- 41:23you have to keep speaking this. Maybe this podcast do more to you know,
- 41:28help install the bay the NPT so that we don't have all the shortages.
- 41:31That's another problem too. The shortage is a big crisis around the country,
- 41:35not just in New York. I'm sure it's a huge crisis. Nine
- 41:38out of every ten police departments in this country is short staff. Because again,
- 41:45you can't have all these people and all these organizations like our schools and
- 41:50the media and this and that telling people that cops are bad, cops are
- 41:52going to kill you for no reason, cops are racist. And yet we're
- 41:55supposed to tell young people, oh, hey, when you turn twenty one,
- 41:58why did you become And that's why, Alex, it's my great honor
- 42:05to be able to stand up for my brothers and sisters in law enforcement,
- 42:10and I'm so grateful for the you know, for the National Police Association,
- 42:15who really stands tall for law enforcement like no other organization in this country.
- 42:22Well, on that note, one of the biggest nights I could think of
- 42:24that bridges community in the National Night Out and the police departments in National Night
- 42:30Out. I'd love for you to come back in July to give us a
- 42:32preview. Maybe just we go more in deep depth about what the National Police
- 42:36Association does. We haven't done that thoroughly because we're so focused on the news,
- 42:40right, Sergeant Smith, but we should do a deep dive on what
- 42:43you guys do and for more information on what on the NPA National Police Association.
- 42:47You're absolutely right. That would be so much fun. We could talk
- 42:52about the NPA and we could talk about National Night Out. I ran my
- 42:55agency's crime for engineer for eight years and National Night Out was one of the
- 43:00most It was like Christmas for crime prevention cops. So let's do that,
- 43:05Alex, all right, I will reach back out about that. But one
- 43:07last thought, a couple last thoughts. Actually, I can talk with you
- 43:12for hours, Sergeant Smith. You've got a lot to talk about it I
- 43:15love that everybody today is honoring Willie Mays. And I know it might seem
- 43:20like a stretch stock baseball on a law enforcement podcast, But when you see
- 43:23the politicians of today talking about the life and the values of Willie Mays,
- 43:29don't you wish that they taught that even more on their followers, if you
- 43:34will, than they do every day. I feel like it's a one to
- 43:36day year that they talk about values and whatnot. I mean, the loss
- 43:38of Willie Mays shouldn't just be a prop It should be a real thing that
- 43:43people. His value should be something the people embody every day. Well,
- 43:46Alex, let me tell you one thing. First of all, there's only
- 43:50one baseball team in this country, and it's the Chicago Cups. But we
- 43:53can talk about other teams. But I grew up as a as a little
- 43:59kid watching Willie May's play, and the great thing about him was his humility
- 44:06and his values. And that's what everybody's talking about today, right is what
- 44:09a great guy he is. And yet when we look at our when we
- 44:13look at our quote unquote sports heroes, now what do we see. We
- 44:17see a lot of bad behavior, We see a lot of thuggery, and
- 44:21things like that. You're absolutely right. We should uplift heroes sports heroes who
- 44:25are good, good people like Willy Mays was, and we should also uplift
- 44:32everyone that we see that's highlighted, who makes good decisions about their life,
- 44:39and stop holding up these these thugs who engage in bad behavior in every sport
- 44:47in this country. Let's uphold the ones who show value. Let me go
- 44:52this way. He played, I believe during the Civil rights you know,
- 44:54all that era, and he never once kneeled and he never won set in
- 44:59the locker room from the national anthem that I can think of, right,
- 45:01I mean, that's not in the archives anywhere. No, he was proud
- 45:06of being an American. You can go back and you can watch him sing
- 45:13the national anthem at games, and you can you can you can read and
- 45:19hear his interviews and how proud he was of America and the civil rights movement
- 45:25that furthered his ability to play professional sports. I'm so glad we touched on
- 45:35that because I thought you might have a few thoughts on that, because of
- 45:37course, today's sports athletes kind of vilify the cops as we speak right now.
- 45:42That's so happening, which is just it shouldn't be. But to wrap
- 45:45everything up, where do we go from here? Is the ambassy fully through?
- 45:50Can they challenge it? What do we see with all that? I
- 45:52know you're talked about litigation earlier, but is this going to be in litigation
- 45:54as well? Yeah, the amnesty is definitely going to be in litigation.
- 45:59I think that you're going to see court case after court case after court case
- 46:02to the point where it may not happen before the November election. So everybody
- 46:10needs to watch carefully. But everybody also needs to get involved locally politically and
- 46:17let your political leadership, not just in Congress, but locally as well.
- 46:23Let them know that you don't support amnescy, you don't want DOCA people being
- 46:29your cops, you don't want to get arrested as a citizen by a non
- 46:31citizen, and that you want your political leaders to get it together and pay
- 46:37attention to your issues and concerns, not issues and concerns of people in other
- 46:43countries that are coming here while breaking the law. Well, thank you so
- 46:47much for your time, Sergeant Betsy Branner Smith, National Police Association. I
- 46:52always love talking to you. We got to do this a little more often
- 46:54than once or twice. You got a lot of insight to tap into as
- 47:00we go along here this year. Well, and I love talking to you
- 47:02because you know you have your finger on the pulse of so much. I
- 47:07appreciate your great questions, all right. That was Sergeant Betsy Branner Smith of
- 47:12the National Police Association on the Alex Stare Guest Network.
