- 0:00Speaker 1: For those of you are saying, well, two laps around
- 0:01Speaker 1: Stewart Park, it's what two and a half three miles?
- 0:04Speaker 2: About two point just two point two miles?
- 0:07Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, So when Chris says and two laps around
- 0:10Speaker 1: Stewart Park, this isn't just two laps like at the track.
- 0:12Speaker 2: No, it's not. It's a nice little fifteen minute run.
- 0:16Speaker 3: That's you know, I'd be sweating afterwards, like, dang, I
- 0:18Speaker 3: gotta do one more time.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Okay, here we go.
- 0:21Speaker 1: So what are you doing those two laps four and
- 0:23Speaker 1: a half miles around Seward Park.
- 0:25Speaker 3: In So my first lap, I did it in fifteen
- 0:28Speaker 3: thirty you go. And then the second one, like I said,
- 0:31Speaker 3: it dropped off a little bit, got to about sixteen
- 0:34Speaker 3: minutes and some change.
- 0:35Speaker 1: You go.
- 0:36Speaker 3: So yeah, just trying to stay at fifteen get even lower.
- 0:39Speaker 3: But it's definitely it's a nice little workout. I'm not
- 0:42Speaker 3: going to lie.
- 0:44Speaker 2: Good for you.
- 0:45Speaker 3: Yeah, but no hiking, no poopoop point. We are going
- 0:48Speaker 3: to hike. At the end of the month. We're going
- 0:50Speaker 3: down to Rattlesnake Ridge.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Oh there you go.
- 0:52Speaker 3: So we'll do that and then the wife and I
- 0:54Speaker 3: at some point in July we're gonna go hiking somewhere.
- 0:57Speaker 2: I don't know where.
- 0:58Speaker 3: She always picks a new destination. But hey, Brooke, lookout.
- 1:01Speaker 3: That was a really fun one. I think she wants
- 1:03Speaker 3: to do that one again and I would concur with that.
- 1:05Speaker 3: So we'll see what happens in July. But I do
- 1:07Speaker 3: got one with the friends coming up at the.
- 1:09Speaker 2: End of June. For sure.
- 1:11Speaker 3: You been to Rattlesnake before, Yeah, I've been, Man, it's
- 1:13Speaker 3: been years. I might have went when I was in
- 1:16Speaker 3: Bellevue College at the time. I think that was the
- 1:18Speaker 3: last time I went. That was what thirteen years ago,
- 1:21Speaker 3: So that'll be a fun one to redo.
- 1:23Speaker 2: That's a good one.
- 1:24Speaker 1: It's short, it's deep, it's short, and then you get
- 1:26Speaker 1: over the ledge. It's really beautiful. Those you haven't gone
- 1:28Speaker 1: the Rattlesnake Ledge up by ninety on the way to
- 1:30Speaker 1: snowcom Falls. It's a really good hike, that real wide
- 1:34Speaker 1: path and it's it's cool.
- 1:36Speaker 2: It's a good one.
- 1:37Speaker 1: My yesterday Thine weekend Saturday, I was not intending to
- 1:41Speaker 1: spend Saturday night parked in front of the Stanley Cup
- 1:44Speaker 1: Finals for four hours, but it was so riveting I
- 1:46Speaker 1: didn't go anywhere else. Sunday was the most whip saw
- 1:52Speaker 1: whiplashed emotional day one of my life. Maybe in the morning,
- 1:58Speaker 1: I went to a memorial service for one of my
- 2:00Speaker 1: former baseball players who died at twenty two years old.
- 2:04Speaker 2: And you talk about, I mean, there are a lot.
- 2:06Speaker 1: Of stuff, tough stuff going on in life, but to
- 2:08Speaker 1: be a mother and a father and a sister, burying
- 2:11Speaker 1: a son and a brother at twenty two is unfathomably hard.
- 2:16Speaker 1: That hats off to the entire community. And you prep
- 2:19Speaker 1: and yeah, that was tough. I've done it. I buried
- 2:24Speaker 1: my sister and saw my mom and dad go through
- 2:26Speaker 1: it and it was unbelievable. So all of you that
- 2:29Speaker 1: have endured that loss, I'm empathy and hearts with you.
- 2:33Speaker 1: That was a tough day. Start the day a couple
- 2:35Speaker 1: hours and honoring him, and then I went straight to
- 2:40Speaker 1: a wedding. And you talk about, like I said, whips
- 2:43Speaker 1: all of emotions. You're celebrating the newness and everyone the vitality,
- 2:48Speaker 1: everyone's celebrating the joyous kid. And it was. It was
- 2:51Speaker 1: a great, joyous occasion at the Daybreak Cultural Center out
- 2:57Speaker 1: there out of Magnolia, out by West Point. It was
- 3:04Speaker 1: the treatment area. If you haven't gone out to the
- 3:06Speaker 1: west point, the lighthouse here been out there. Why am
- 3:09Speaker 1: I forgetting the name of the park right now out
- 3:11Speaker 1: of Discovery Park?
- 3:12Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yes, the lighthouse out there.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Well, there's a Daybreak Cultural center before you start the
- 3:17Speaker 1: trail that will head you out to the lighthouse and
- 3:20Speaker 1: that's where the wedding was. And then the overlook and
- 3:22Speaker 1: it was a beautiful evening with the sunsetting and over
- 3:25Speaker 1: Elliott Pay and huge at Sound.
- 3:27Speaker 2: It was great. It was really great.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So yeah, Brian Flane, Garry Sagan getting married. Congratulations to them.
- 3:34Speaker 1: So it was Whips of the day and then we
- 3:36Speaker 1: had sports. We had the Mariners yesterday. That game was
- 3:41Speaker 1: Cruise Control right three to one in the sixth for
- 3:44Speaker 1: air comes in gets a shutout ending. We'll talk about
- 3:47Speaker 1: the Mariners weekend in Detroit as it was and they
- 3:51Speaker 1: have a new injury concern coming out of Detroit thanks
- 3:53Speaker 1: to that dastardly Framber Valdez, the former trash Cans pitcher.
- 3:58Speaker 2: He did it to the Mariners again this weekend.
- 3:59Speaker 1: We'll talk about the best mop up goaltending performance maybe
- 4:02Speaker 1: in Stanley Cup Finals history. Saturday night, Brandon Bussy became
- 4:07Speaker 1: an accidental star and now the Hurricanes have a choice
- 4:11Speaker 1: on their hands for game for them.
- 4:12Speaker 2: All right.
- 4:13Speaker 1: We're also going to talk about if you want to
- 4:14Speaker 1: see the World Cup in Seattle? Do you are you curious?
- 4:17Speaker 1: I think I've asked you this, Chris, you would not
- 4:18Speaker 1: curious at all. Right, you want to get the hell
- 4:19Speaker 1: out of here with the crowd.
- 4:21Speaker 2: And not be in Seattle the crib, they should rent
- 4:24Speaker 2: your place and move out for the month. Man.
- 4:27Speaker 1: There's some people I know that are considering doing that,
- 4:30Speaker 1: unless you might be able to fetch for your place.
- 4:32Speaker 1: But if you are wanting to see the World Cup
- 4:35Speaker 1: games here and see if you're not like Chris and
- 4:36Speaker 1: I want to embrace the noise in the traffic and
- 4:39Speaker 1: the people that are coming in.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Prices are coming down for tickets.
- 4:43Speaker 1: We talked last week how it looked like prices were
- 4:47Speaker 1: coming down because people weren't buying them. We'll talk about
- 4:49Speaker 1: how many tickets reportedly are on the market unsold for
- 4:53Speaker 1: the group stage matches through the final in the Meadowlands
- 4:56Speaker 1: in New York City next month. So the point being,
- 4:59Speaker 1: if you want to go, keep waiting. We'll tell you
- 5:02Speaker 1: what the prices are right now to get in a
- 5:04Speaker 1: week from today here in Seattle, Belgium and Egypt start
- 5:07Speaker 1: the four first four of the group stage matches here
- 5:11Speaker 1: in Seattle.
- 5:11Speaker 2: And then remember Seattle has.
- 5:12Speaker 1: A Round of thirty two match the first week of
- 5:15Speaker 1: July and then a few days later a Round of
- 5:17Speaker 1: sixteen match, so two knockout stage matches also in Seattle,
- 5:21Speaker 1: in addition to the four group stage matches that'll happen
- 5:24Speaker 1: starting next Monday for the next week and a half
- 5:27Speaker 1: or so. Eleven o'clock I mentioned got to Loss Vegas
- 5:31Speaker 1: to talk to Case Keeler. He's the Las Vegas Sun newspaper,
- 5:34Speaker 1: one of the beat writers and editors in the Cup
- 5:37Speaker 1: final coverage Vegas Golden Knights against the Carolina Carolina Hurricanes,
- 5:40Speaker 1: and talk about that's just it's been an epics series
- 5:42Speaker 1: and that Game three was just off the hook.
- 5:44Speaker 2: We'll talk more about that eleven'clock.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I'll also have a keyword for your chance to win
- 5:47Speaker 1: twenty five hundred dollars in our nationwide twenty five one
- 5:53Speaker 1: hundred thousand, two hundred and fifty thousand dollars total USA
- 5:56Speaker 1: giveaway contest here on ninety three point three KJR and
- 5:59Speaker 1: each day, each hour, well not each hour, but eight am,
- 6:03Speaker 1: eleven am, two pm, five pm each day. You have
- 6:06Speaker 1: a chance to win twenty five hundred dollars by entering
- 6:08Speaker 1: a keyword at our website nine through three kJ dot com.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I'll give you that keyword eleven o'clock your text, of course,
- 6:13Speaker 1: and at the Komadadje text line at four nine, four
- 6:16Speaker 1: or five one. I want to shout out to start
- 6:19Speaker 1: the week, Chris A. Kug I think you probably know him,
- 6:22Speaker 1: Bill Stevens. You know Bill, I sure do, the dedicated
- 6:27Speaker 1: Washington State Cougar sports information director, retiring after twenty one
- 6:30Speaker 1: years of serving the Koug's awesome guy, always busy, always professional,
- 6:34Speaker 1: always smiling. Salute to Bill Stevens. Got a job well
- 6:39Speaker 1: done over two decades and pullman. We run across Bill
- 6:42Speaker 1: Stevens and your work at a student an undergrad.
- 6:45Speaker 3: So once I got here, actually oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 6:47Speaker 3: I had to email him a few times regarding guests
- 6:51Speaker 3: on the station getting them on. So yeah, I had
- 6:53Speaker 3: a text that him calling him doing all those things.
- 6:56Speaker 2: So yeah, congrats the Bill. You gots the bill.
- 6:58Speaker 1: That's that is a tough job because you got to
- 7:00Speaker 1: coordinate media who are often not there to do everyday
- 7:04Speaker 1: media stuff Spokane when they were in the Pac twelve,
- 7:07Speaker 1: when the Pac twelve used to be a real conference,
- 7:09Speaker 1: and all.
- 7:10Speaker 2: The teams in Arizona and usc UCLA.
- 7:14Speaker 1: He had to coordinate all these disparate medias from all
- 7:17Speaker 1: over the place and very few of them.
- 7:20Speaker 2: One or two of them might have been in Pullman, right.
- 7:22Speaker 1: Maybe the Moscow Pullman Daily News, maybe the Lewiston paper,
- 7:26Speaker 1: and that was it. The spokesman often had their people
- 7:29Speaker 1: in Spokane if it was just a Monday or Tuesday football,
- 7:32Speaker 1: a bit availability or basketball availability. Say, there was a
- 7:36Speaker 1: lot more than meets the eye to Bill Stevens's job,
- 7:38Speaker 1: and he did it really, really, really exquisitely for more
- 7:42Speaker 1: than two decades, So hats off to him. I've covered
- 7:47Speaker 1: many events of Washington State as both the AP writer
- 7:49Speaker 1: and news Tribune in Pullman, and Bill Stevens made it
- 7:53Speaker 1: so much easier for us.
- 7:55Speaker 2: And JP. Crawford's hurting again.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Remember he was on the disabled injured list earlier this season. Well, now,
- 8:00Speaker 1: Framber Valdez, you remember him from the trash Cans, the
- 8:03Speaker 1: guy who crossed up his own catcher and drilled his
- 8:05Speaker 1: catcher well, he drilled Crawford with a ninety five million
- 8:09Speaker 1: hour fastball if you missed it on Friday night, it
- 8:11Speaker 1: was a full count. It climbed right off of Crawford's
- 8:15Speaker 1: right hand. Initial test made it seem like it wasn't
- 8:18Speaker 1: a serious injury, but he Crawford is still hurting.
- 8:21Speaker 2: Ryan Bliss, well, Ryan Blizz, please haven't heard that name
- 8:24Speaker 2: and sometimes.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Read fan Favors show favorite Ryan Bliss was in the
- 8:29Speaker 1: clubhouse in Detroit for the Mariners on stand by yesterday.
- 8:32Speaker 1: He's on their taxi squad, which is new to me
- 8:34Speaker 1: since I covered Paul. But they now have an ability
- 8:37Speaker 1: to bring guys up from the minor leagues and be
- 8:39Speaker 1: on standby, so they don't rush him there and he
- 8:42Speaker 1: gets there in like the third enning of game anymore.
- 8:44Speaker 1: They have a taxi squad that you can put him
- 8:45Speaker 1: on preemptively before if you need to make a move. Well,
- 8:49Speaker 1: they didn't make a move yet, and we'll see if
- 8:51Speaker 1: the Mariners decide JP Crawford has hurt enough for a
- 8:54Speaker 1: roster move before the game today this afternoon. That's a
- 8:57Speaker 1: three thirty start our time in Baltimore for the Mariners.
- 9:00Speaker 1: So about the pregame. Wait, baseball works about three hours before.
- 9:03Speaker 1: That'd be a little after noon before they might start
- 9:05Speaker 1: making a roster move decision. But Ryan Bliss is with
- 9:08Speaker 1: the team on the road trip, so if they want
- 9:10Speaker 1: to do it, they'll just swap Crawford for Bliss and
- 9:13Speaker 1: more Ryan Bliss. Please all right, andres Munos, the time
- 9:16Speaker 1: for a change. What do you think Chris Closer?
- 9:21Speaker 2: Stick with him, Stick with him? Blew it yesterday?
- 9:24Speaker 1: Yeah, he has five blown saves, which is too fewer
- 9:28Speaker 1: than he had his entire season last year.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Of course, we're only in early June, not even near
- 9:33Speaker 2: the halfway point.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Our buddy Chuck Powell in the Morning Show has been saying,
- 9:38Speaker 1: all along, dah, he's fine, no problem. A lot of
- 9:41Speaker 1: people calling for a change at the closer spot after
- 9:44Speaker 1: Andre's Munos yesterday. I mean, it is baseball, though, isn't it.
- 9:48Speaker 1: If that ball is six inches lower, or if Cole
- 9:52Speaker 1: Young was six inches taller, or if he could jump
- 9:55Speaker 1: like Michael Jordan, the game would have been over in
- 9:57Speaker 1: his glove and the Mariners would have won. Ticked off
- 10:00Speaker 1: the top of Cole Young's glove, it looked like McGonagall
- 10:03Speaker 1: when he hit it.
- 10:04Speaker 2: Thought it was an out.
- 10:06Speaker 1: The game ending out there was second and third, two out,
- 10:09Speaker 1: Mariners were leading four to three. Chris, we talked about
- 10:12Speaker 1: Andre's Munios and his slider, right, you know, he was
- 10:14Speaker 1: getting hit with his slider most of the time. Yesterday
- 10:16Speaker 1: was a ninety nine mile an hour fastball on one
- 10:18Speaker 1: oh that McGonagall hit off the tip of the glove,
- 10:22Speaker 1: ticked off the glove into the outfield off of Cole Young,
- 10:26Speaker 1: and that's how the Mariners lost. Munios again, five blown
- 10:29Speaker 1: saves when he blown blew seven the entire season last year.
- 10:33Speaker 1: So what are your options? They're probably going to stay
- 10:37Speaker 1: with him at closer. I would think a couple of
- 10:38Speaker 1: time All Star, but you could put Jose Ferrer there
- 10:42Speaker 1: the lefty again. A scoreless outing yesterday after Luis Castillo's
- 10:45Speaker 1: two hits in one run and five and a third
- 10:47Speaker 1: they bring in. It was one hundred pitches for Castilla.
- 10:50Speaker 1: That's why he didn't pitch more than five and a third.
- 10:52Speaker 1: But it wasn't the piggyback. It was straight starts. Bryce
- 10:55Speaker 1: Smeller the day before was tremendous and Farrer was tremendous.
- 11:01Speaker 1: His era is one point five and he was a
- 11:04Speaker 1: closer for the Washington Nationals last year in the latter
- 11:07Speaker 1: half of the season before the Mariners traded for him.
- 11:10Speaker 1: A veteran lefty who's done the job before. Do you
- 11:13Speaker 1: put him in a closer? Four nine, four to five
- 11:15Speaker 1: one on the komodage tech line, What do you do
- 11:17Speaker 1: a closer for the Mariners? You stick with Munhos five
- 11:21Speaker 1: blown saved so far forar rare Go left hand. If
- 11:24Speaker 1: you do that, though, of course you're taking away one
- 11:26Speaker 1: of your primary left He set up guys and you
- 11:28Speaker 1: don't can't play matching as much. You still have Spire.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Would you put Spire in his cloth? Would you put
- 11:35Speaker 1: Matt Brash in his closer? Who has had recently been
- 11:39Speaker 1: scored on after starting the season coming back from injury
- 11:41Speaker 1: not getting scored on, who's been wild at times? Two?
- 11:46Speaker 1: Chuck Poll and I were talking in the sports bit
- 11:48Speaker 1: outside about how Munyos needs to pitch more. In Chuck's mind,
- 11:52Speaker 1: that he gets rusty and loses his command when the
- 11:55Speaker 1: Mariners only save him for save only situations. Well, if
- 11:59Speaker 1: to save only situation the only time you're going to
- 12:01Speaker 1: use him and he's blown him, maybe you need to
- 12:03Speaker 1: have a different tech. I would go with a committee,
- 12:07Speaker 1: maybe Farrere if you're facing a bunch of lefties, or
- 12:11Speaker 1: maybe Munos if you know the right handed a portion
- 12:14Speaker 1: of a lineup is coming up, and force the other
- 12:16Speaker 1: team to pinch hit guys maybe they don't want to
- 12:18Speaker 1: pinch it, or just have them trot out. Right, he's
- 12:20Speaker 1: against Munos, who he eats up. Maybe put inspire, maybe
- 12:24Speaker 1: put in brash. I don't think in June there's anything
- 12:27Speaker 1: wrong with doing that. And you still could have Munnos
- 12:31Speaker 1: in the highest leverage points against say a two, three,
- 12:34Speaker 1: four is coming up in the seventh or eighth, then
- 12:36Speaker 1: he bring Munos in. Then don't just keep him. We
- 12:40Speaker 1: saw this in the playoffs last year. They were wetting
- 12:42Speaker 1: him to the ninth inning when they could have won
- 12:44Speaker 1: the game in the eighth inning against better hitters or
- 12:47Speaker 1: the seventh inning. Even that's what I would do with Munnos. Yeah,
- 12:51Speaker 1: maybe he's not not a safe situation. And these guys
- 12:53Speaker 1: are the closers get paid for save situations, and that's
- 12:56Speaker 1: why they want to stick to the save situations because
- 13:00Speaker 1: they don't get paid when they get set up.
- 13:02Speaker 2: Guys aren't paid by closers.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Because they don't have saves and they don't have saved numbers,
- 13:06Speaker 1: and that's where Munos makes his money. Literally, So I
- 13:09Speaker 1: get it, and that's why the Mariners are trying to
- 13:11Speaker 1: stick him to that. But for winning games, they're so
- 13:14Speaker 1: matchup oriented, they're so iPad oriented. Bring in Munos when
- 13:19Speaker 1: the highest leverage guys are coming up, and if it's
- 13:21Speaker 1: someone else for the ninth, it's foreir. If it's Brash,
- 13:23Speaker 1: if it's Gabe Spire, so be it. I think I'd
- 13:27Speaker 1: stop there. I don't know if i'd put Bizardo in
- 13:29Speaker 1: as the closer. He's pretty good at where he is.
- 13:32Speaker 2: Real quick before we go to break.
- 13:34Speaker 3: I Munho still got some relieved stuff, Yes he does,
- 13:38Speaker 3: and the track record I think speaks for itself. I
- 13:40Speaker 3: know the last couple of saves have not gone in
- 13:42Speaker 3: his favor. I would just say, maybe the offense can
- 13:46Speaker 3: give you a little bit more. There's that, you know,
- 13:48Speaker 3: A Foro to one lead, Yes, while you should be
- 13:50Speaker 3: able to handle that, can you give him a little
- 13:53Speaker 3: more That way doesn't come down to just one inning
- 13:55Speaker 3: of a few mistakes, right, So I don't want to
- 13:58Speaker 3: put too much on Munia. I do think he should
- 14:02Speaker 3: still be a closer, We'll just have to I think
- 14:04Speaker 3: they should just monitor the process as the season goes.
- 14:06Speaker 3: If he continues doing this for let's say a little
- 14:10Speaker 3: bit longer, that could be a bigger concern. But I
- 14:12Speaker 3: would still put him out there to wrap things up.
- 14:16Speaker 3: I still believe in him. Just do Chris has got
- 14:19Speaker 3: the faith. You believe in him? Four nine, four or
- 14:20Speaker 3: five one.
- 14:21Speaker 1: You agree with Chris Keith Munos in the closer spot,
- 14:23Speaker 1: He'll work through it where he back your text at
- 14:26Speaker 1: eleven thirty Up next one of the wildest championship games
- 14:30Speaker 1: I've ever watched in television or in person. Saturday Night
- 14:33Speaker 1: and an unlikely hero turn for Brandon Bussy.
- 14:36Speaker 2: Who is he?
- 14:37Speaker 1: We'll talk about a wild turn of events on Saturday
- 14:39Speaker 1: night in the Stanley Cup Finals. Next eleven o'clock we'll
- 14:42Speaker 1: go to Las Vegas and talk to Las Vegas Sun
- 14:44Speaker 1: Beat writer about this Vegas Carolina series which has turned.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Out to be one of the greatest finals in a
- 14:49Speaker 2: long time.
- 14:50Speaker 1: That's next on ninety three point three KJRFM.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Welcome back to the Greg Belt Show with Christopher Kid
- 14:59Speaker 2: on a Monday. Happy Monday to you.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Mike Sando, the friend of the show, friend of the station.
- 15:07Speaker 1: My predecessor went my predecessors at the Seahawks beat writer
- 15:10Speaker 1: at the News Tribune. Now he's with the Athletic, still
- 15:13Speaker 1: based here in the Tacoma area. He wrote a really
- 15:15Speaker 1: good story at the end of the last week Friday,
- 15:18Speaker 1: maybe the weekend you missed it on the Athletic about
- 15:20Speaker 1: Russell Wilson's Hall of Fame candidacy. How it's probably going
- 15:24Speaker 1: to be better five years from now than it is now,
- 15:26Speaker 1: that the passage of time is going to help Russell Wilson.
- 15:28Speaker 1: And he does some comps like we talked about Hall
- 15:30Speaker 1: of Fame voters do. Mike Sando is a Hall of
- 15:32Speaker 1: Fame voter. Go to the Athletic for Mike Sando about
- 15:36Speaker 1: Russell Wilson in the perspective the time will help Russell
- 15:40Speaker 1: Wilson and his potential to get in the Hall of Fame.
- 15:42Speaker 1: He said, wrote what we were talking about, it's really close.
- 15:46Speaker 1: It's a close call. The NBA Finals Game three tonight
- 15:49Speaker 1: in New York City is gonna be a wild scene
- 15:51Speaker 1: at Madison Square Garden. Tickets are I checked this morning
- 15:54Speaker 1: forty nine hundred dollars at the get in price and
- 15:57Speaker 1: that's like on the roof of the end zone behind
- 15:59Speaker 1: one of the baskets. The President's going to be there.
- 16:01Speaker 1: So the Secret Service wants a security perimeter of course
- 16:06Speaker 1: around the arena, which means they're not going to have
- 16:08Speaker 1: the normal absolute zoo that's out in front of Madison
- 16:11Speaker 1: Square Garden. I was talking to Chris about this, and
- 16:13Speaker 1: I realized, maybe the listeners don't know this. Madison Square
- 16:16Speaker 1: Garden has a plaza out front because it looks like
- 16:20Speaker 1: an office building. It is a train station at its
- 16:23Speaker 1: street level, and then first couple floors below is Penn Station.
- 16:27Speaker 1: The arena, in fact is the fifth floor. You have
- 16:30Speaker 1: to take elevators and escalators to get up from the
- 16:32Speaker 1: street to the actual arena. The arena doesn't begin to
- 16:35Speaker 1: the fifth floor of that building. So outside is this
- 16:37Speaker 1: big plaza, and there are fans that always gather out front.
- 16:42Speaker 2: And it's usually people.
- 16:43Speaker 1: Sometimes they're protesting, sometimes they're celebrating, sometimes they're having rallies.
- 16:48Speaker 1: There's gonna be none of that tonight as up far
- 16:49Speaker 1: as I understand, because the Secret Service wants a cordon
- 16:52Speaker 1: around and along the street right out front. It's usually
- 16:57Speaker 1: a wild scene on front of Madison Square Garden because no,
- 16:59Speaker 1: like I said, it's not an arena where you just
- 17:00Speaker 1: walk in from street level and there you are into
- 17:02Speaker 1: the floor.
- 17:03Speaker 2: You have to go up five foots.
- 17:04Speaker 1: The teams take a freight elevator, in fact, from where
- 17:08Speaker 1: the bus drops them off in the back of the arena.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I've gone on it when I worked at the University
- 17:12Speaker 1: of Washington with Lorenzo Romars basketball teams a few times
- 17:15Speaker 1: playing at the Garden.
- 17:16Speaker 2: And you get on a freight elevator.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Sometimes you smell circus animals if they just had a
- 17:21Speaker 1: circus in there or whatever. But concert performers, players, officials,
- 17:27Speaker 1: they all take this legendary. You take the service elevator,
- 17:32Speaker 1: the gates closed and boom there you are. High time
- 17:35Speaker 1: for the Spurs to win tonight.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Huh Chris, Yeah, it's it's looking real. The light of
- 17:42Speaker 3: that end of the tunnel is just closing. It's what
- 17:46Speaker 3: New York is doing. It's been really fun to see.
- 17:49Speaker 3: I didn't know they'd be able to do it. I
- 17:50Speaker 3: thought Wimby would show that he is the best in
- 17:52Speaker 3: the NBA. But you got a team over there in
- 17:55Speaker 3: New York City that is playing team ball, and guys
- 17:58Speaker 3: like Karl Anthony town Yeah, playing.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Everyone talks about Brunson, but you bring up the point
- 18:02Speaker 1: to Karl. Anthony Towns is probably the deciding factor in
- 18:05Speaker 1: this series.
- 18:05Speaker 3: He has been phenomenal during the regular season. He has
- 18:10Speaker 3: been etched as the three point center, I meaning he'll
- 18:14Speaker 3: just chuck threes.
- 18:15Speaker 2: Now. Mind you, Carly town is about seven.
- 18:17Speaker 3: Feet, good footwork, soft touch around the rim, but he'd
- 18:21Speaker 3: be launching three sometimes. Well in the NBA Finals, he's
- 18:25Speaker 3: launching threes. But he's doing it. He's picking and choosing
- 18:29Speaker 3: when to do so, he's doing it. He's attacking the basket,
- 18:33Speaker 3: getting all his points inside and then maybe his seventh
- 18:35Speaker 3: shot at the three ball when it's wide open and
- 18:37Speaker 3: he's bodying up. He is going to the chest. He
- 18:40Speaker 3: is being physical. When Winby switches on to him, he's
- 18:43Speaker 3: attacking him downhill. He's not settling, is the word I
- 18:46Speaker 3: would use. And when you have a guy like that
- 18:49Speaker 3: that has set the tone for your team in terms
- 18:51Speaker 3: of what he's normally used to doing, which is again
- 18:54Speaker 3: chucking three because they're in the regular season, was launching
- 18:56Speaker 3: the three ball and he was shooting around nine percent.
- 19:01Speaker 3: Not terrible, but for someone that big and that strong
- 19:04Speaker 3: and to have a soft touch. You want him to
- 19:06Speaker 3: do the damage and inside in the paint and then
- 19:09Speaker 3: when there's opportunity to take those threes. And I think
- 19:12Speaker 3: he's done a phenomenal job in this series of doing so.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Not to mention defensively, he's been playing pretty smart. There
- 19:19Speaker 3: have been times where I go, oh, here we go again.
- 19:21Speaker 3: He picked up two quick fouls. But I think Mike
- 19:23Speaker 3: Brown has done a good job of putting when to
- 19:25Speaker 3: put him on Winby Yama, when to put him in
- 19:27Speaker 3: those situations where all right, it's.
- 19:29Speaker 2: The third quarter, Now we can we can.
- 19:31Speaker 3: We can allow you to go and try to guard
- 19:33Speaker 3: him and contain him and be physical with a guy
- 19:35Speaker 3: that's seven to four and has a handle like a
- 19:37Speaker 3: point guard. So you got to give credit to New
- 19:39Speaker 3: York City. The Knicks are playing some really good basketball.
- 19:43Speaker 3: They're playing as a unit and a team. They're playing
- 19:45Speaker 3: good defense against Wimby, and they're making it tough for
- 19:47Speaker 3: those guys. And now they're at the crib going up
- 19:51Speaker 3: against the Spurs, where they just beat twice on the road.
- 19:53Speaker 3: So all signs indicate that they will take a commanding
- 19:57Speaker 3: three o lead. But I'm also looking at wimby saying, Okay,
- 20:00Speaker 3: I know you're still a young player, but do you
- 20:03Speaker 3: have anything in the tank to go on the road
- 20:05Speaker 3: and have one of those games where you go down.
- 20:07Speaker 3: That's why he is number one, That's why he could
- 20:09Speaker 3: be potentially the face of this NBA right then and there.
- 20:12Speaker 3: He hasn't had that game yet in the finals. Can
- 20:14Speaker 3: he have it tonight? Well? What did they say about
- 20:17Speaker 3: massive square Garden? The stars come out, So this is
- 20:21Speaker 3: an opportunity for him to come out, remind everybody that, yeah,
- 20:24Speaker 3: I'm still one of the best in the league.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Get it done. See if they can get a road win.
- 20:28Speaker 3: It won't be easy though, because as I mentioned, Kat
- 20:30Speaker 3: has been playing really good, and obviously everyone knows about
- 20:33Speaker 3: Jalen Brunson.
- 20:34Speaker 2: The dude's been just phenomenal.
- 20:36Speaker 3: Even though the numbers shooting wise haven't been great, he
- 20:40Speaker 3: is giving all effort out there on that court at
- 20:42Speaker 3: Mikhel Bridges. You can go through the list of the
- 20:44Speaker 3: entire roster and look at all the guys that have
- 20:46Speaker 3: stepped up and played meaningful basketball on the biggest stage.
- 20:49Speaker 2: So this should be an exciting game.
- 20:51Speaker 3: It's probably gonna be another tight one coming down to
- 20:53Speaker 3: the final minute or two.
- 20:55Speaker 2: But I'm excited to see what happens.
- 20:57Speaker 3: And if the Knicks take a three zero lead, I
- 20:59Speaker 3: feel sorry for anyone that lives in New York that's
- 21:01Speaker 3: not a basketball fan.
- 21:02Speaker 1: Game three tonight, Nixon spurs about but five thirty our
- 21:07Speaker 1: time on Channel four ABC locally.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Okay, I did it. I gave you equal time.
- 21:11Speaker 1: Now let's talk about the far more compelling finals the
- 21:14Speaker 1: Stanley Cup. It is an amazing spectacle.
- 21:17Speaker 2: Another crazy game.
- 21:18Speaker 1: It was, oh, no scores in the second period, no
- 21:23Speaker 1: score into the second period of Game three Saturday night.
- 21:25Speaker 1: Then the Golden Knight scored four goals. Mitch Marner, remember
- 21:28Speaker 1: in from Toronto. He's on his way to win the
- 21:31Speaker 1: con Smike Trophy. As a playoffs MVP scores a natural
- 21:34Speaker 1: hat trick. That means three goals in one period. And
- 21:36Speaker 1: he scored three in a row in six minutes. That
- 21:40Speaker 1: is the fastest natural hat trick in Stanley Cup finals history.
- 21:43Speaker 1: You know how long that is, Chris? The first Cup
- 21:46Speaker 1: final was played in eighteen ninety three.
- 21:48Speaker 2: Oh wow, okay, a couple hundred years there.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Vegas is up four to nothing because of Marner hats
- 21:54Speaker 1: all over the ice for the hat trick for Marner.
- 21:57Speaker 2: It's over.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Carolina coach Rod Brandamer shut thought, so he pulled his
- 22:00Speaker 1: goaltender Frederick Anderson, who had played up to that point
- 22:03Speaker 1: every one of the Hurricanes playoff minutes over four rounds.
- 22:06Speaker 2: Two months in comes.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Branded Bussy, twenty seven years old. He looks like an accountant.
- 22:11Speaker 1: You'll get pictures online of him walking into arena. It's
- 22:13Speaker 1: looked like somebody in the front office. He comes in
- 22:16Speaker 1: from mop up duty in the third period with the
- 22:18Speaker 1: Hurricanes down four nothing, and Bussy just stands on his head,
- 22:21Speaker 1: as they say at hockey, makeing unbelievable. Saves Carolina scores
- 22:25Speaker 1: three goals in thirty nine seconds, the fastest three goals
- 22:29Speaker 1: in Cup Final history.
- 22:30Speaker 2: You know how long that is, Chris, I'm no math major,
- 22:33Speaker 2: but go ahead and lay it on.
- 22:34Speaker 1: Eighteen ninety three is when they had the first Cup
- 22:37Speaker 1: again with Bears repeating. So the Hurricanes get a fourth
- 22:41Speaker 1: goal to tie it in six minutes. It goes from
- 22:43Speaker 1: four oh vegas to tight at four to four, and
- 22:45Speaker 1: we're going to overtime. Next goal wins game three twenty minutes. Fantastic,
- 22:49Speaker 1: says by Bussy in overtime, who again had not played
- 22:52Speaker 1: in two months, not at all in the playoffs. Then
- 22:56Speaker 1: in the second overtime you heard John Foresland at the
- 22:58Speaker 1: top of the show describe it a lucky strike. A
- 23:02Speaker 1: shot from the top way out by the blue line
- 23:05Speaker 1: at the point goes straight off the back wall.
- 23:09Speaker 2: Bussy had.
- 23:09Speaker 1: It came so quickly Bussy didn't know where it was
- 23:11Speaker 1: and went off the bottom of his foot into the
- 23:13Speaker 1: net an own goal. Bussy and the Canes are now
- 23:17Speaker 1: down two games to one. Game four is tomorrow night
- 23:20Speaker 1: here on ninety three point three kjar and I don't
- 23:22Speaker 1: know how it can get better than Game three. That
- 23:24Speaker 1: was one of the best championship games of any sport
- 23:27Speaker 1: I've ever watched. It was phenomenal. I mean, when you
- 23:30Speaker 1: got my wife, children's student Seattle children's speech pathologists, who
- 23:34Speaker 1: could care not much about Saturday night hockey, it riveted.
- 23:38Speaker 1: She didn't want to quit watch it. It was an amazing game.
- 23:41Speaker 1: John Fort and Eddie Elchik, who have the call from
- 23:43Speaker 1: Vegas tomorrow night up next, you want to go to
- 23:44Speaker 1: the World Cup games in Seattle. The ticket prices are
- 23:47Speaker 1: coming down. We'll tell you how far down and how
- 23:49Speaker 1: maybe you want to wait. That's up next to ninety
- 23:51Speaker 1: three point three KJRFM. Trying to lay up. I hit
- 23:56Speaker 1: a water line and now I have to play a big.
- 23:59Speaker 2: Fine icy.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Welcome back to the show, The Greg Belt Show at
- 24:17Speaker 1: Christopher Kidd every weekday ten am thenoon here on ninety
- 24:19Speaker 1: three point three KJRFM. I'll be at Seahawk headquarters tomorrow
- 24:22Speaker 1: for the start of a three day mini camp, the
- 24:24Speaker 1: only mandatory practices of the off season.
- 24:27Speaker 2: Expecting the market Lawrence to be there.
- 24:29Speaker 1: He's been occasionally there in the voluntary part the thirty
- 24:33Speaker 1: four year old Pro Bowl defensive end. We'll be out
- 24:37Speaker 1: ian Faness and I will both be out there. I
- 24:39Speaker 1: mentioned Mike Sando's story about Hall of Fame candidacy for
- 24:42Speaker 1: Russell Wilson probably aging with time over the next five
- 24:45Speaker 1: years before his eligibility would start five years after his
- 24:48Speaker 1: retirement from the NFL. Ian Fans is going to have
- 24:52Speaker 1: Mike Sander on the show. We're trying to get him
- 24:54Speaker 1: on the show here this week. Talk about that. Mike's
- 24:56Speaker 1: been on the station obviously quite a bit. You've heard
- 24:59Speaker 1: Mike Sander these there's quite a bit. The World Cup,
- 25:03Speaker 1: the Greatest biggest spectacle in sports by viewership and interest
- 25:08Speaker 1: across the world begins here the continent and in the
- 25:14Speaker 1: city of Seattle. Begins Thursday in Mexico City with Mexico
- 25:18Speaker 1: South Africa. The first Seattle game is a week from
- 25:20Speaker 1: today next Monday at noon. Belgium versus Most solid in Egypt. Egypt,
- 25:25Speaker 1: by the way, is training and Spokane. They arrived this weekend.
- 25:29Speaker 1: They're training at Gonzaga.
- 25:32Speaker 2: I looked it up.
- 25:32Speaker 1: The secondary ticket price the first of all the feat
- 25:35Speaker 1: you can know the FIFA site.
- 25:37Speaker 2: They the cartel, that is FIFA. Let's just lay it
- 25:39Speaker 2: out for what they are. They're a cartel.
- 25:42Speaker 1: They have engineered the picket prices to go absolutely through
- 25:45Speaker 1: the roof. They are ridiculous prices on the FIFA website.
- 25:48Speaker 1: The secondary prices are not much better.
- 25:51Speaker 2: Why would they be.
- 25:52Speaker 1: If FISA is going to hold them up high, then
- 25:55Speaker 1: the secondary brokers probably paid some fraction of that price.
- 25:58Speaker 2: They're going to keep theirs high too.
- 26:00Speaker 1: To get in price right now for Belgium Egypt a
- 26:03Speaker 1: week from today at Loominfield noon start on a Monday,
- 26:06Speaker 1: three hundred and eighty two dollars. That's to sit in
- 26:08Speaker 1: the three hundred level upper corners on the secondary ticket
- 26:12Speaker 1: sites I saw online. That's down from five hundred dollars
- 26:15Speaker 1: a week or so ago. How about US Australia four days?
- 26:18Speaker 1: Like Christ, you're not still not interested in You're going
- 26:20Speaker 1: to US Australia Friday either.
- 26:23Speaker 2: No, I will not be Chris.
- 26:25Speaker 1: We'll be sitting I think we'll be sitting here unless
- 26:27Speaker 1: we're somewhere downtown. That game's at noon on a Friday.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I'm covering it for the News Tribune.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Nice, okay, so you'll be busy.
- 26:35Speaker 1: I'm covering all of it for the News Tribune all
- 26:36Speaker 1: of Seattle. But that's an actual I'm actually writing a
- 26:38Speaker 1: game match story that day. You want to get into.
- 26:42Speaker 1: That match is still eleven hundred dollars on the secondary
- 26:45Speaker 1: sites US Australia. Here in Seattle on Friday, June and
- 26:48Speaker 1: nineteenth at noon, Bosnia Herzegovina against Cutter June twenty fourth,
- 26:53Speaker 1: that's the third group stage match here in Seattle. Another
- 26:56Speaker 1: day game down to two hundred and twenty five dollars,
- 26:59Speaker 1: So Bosnia hears a Govina against Cutter on June twenty
- 27:04Speaker 1: fourth is the least expensive of the four here in Seattle,
- 27:08Speaker 1: two hundred and twenty five dollars is to get in price.
- 27:10Speaker 1: June twenty six, Friday, Egypt comes back. They play Iran,
- 27:14Speaker 1: the only night game of the four group matches. Group
- 27:17Speaker 1: stage matches here in Seattle eight pm start on a
- 27:19Speaker 1: Friday night. Egypt Iran A get in prices to eighty
- 27:21Speaker 1: seven when I checked this morning thinking about going up
- 27:23Speaker 1: to Vancouver. The four Group stays matches there two with
- 27:27Speaker 1: Home Canada playing tickets to get in price for Turkey
- 27:30Speaker 1: and Australia on June thirteenth, which is Saturday. This Saturday
- 27:35Speaker 1: two ninety seven, four thirty seven and five thirty seven
- 27:39Speaker 1: for the two Canada matches in Vancouver at BC Place,
- 27:42Speaker 1: and two hundred and fifty dollars for New Zealand against
- 27:45Speaker 1: Egypt Sunday night June twenty first, at six pm. On
- 27:48Speaker 1: June twenty first, on a Sunday night, New Zealand Egypt
- 27:51Speaker 1: two fifties to get in price in Vancouver. I'm credentialed
- 27:55Speaker 1: there too. I might go up and do a story
- 27:57Speaker 1: on the difference between how Vancouver's doing it and how
- 27:59Speaker 1: Seattle's doing it. That'll be in the News Tribune hopefully
- 28:01Speaker 1: Here to next week or so, a reason to go,
- 28:04Speaker 1: any reason I need to go to Vancouver, I'm going
- 28:06Speaker 1: to take it, take my wife and spend a night
- 28:09Speaker 1: in Vancouver. See how they have Vancouver's doing the World
- 28:12Speaker 1: Cup compared to how the US is doing it four
- 28:15Speaker 1: nine four or five one on the Takamadads text line,
- 28:19Speaker 1: do you want to go the World Cup? Are you curious?
- 28:22Speaker 1: Even if you're not a soccer fan? Are you curious
- 28:25Speaker 1: if you are a soccer fan? Or you turned off
- 28:27Speaker 1: by what fief has turned this into? Expense wise? If
- 28:31Speaker 1: you want to go, why you want to go? If
- 28:33Speaker 1: you don't want to go, even more so, why don't
- 28:34Speaker 1: you want to go in the world's biggest sporting event
- 28:38Speaker 1: right being in our backyard here in downtown Seattle.
- 28:42Speaker 2: Do you want to go the World Cup?
- 28:43Speaker 1: If you want to go, my advice is to keep waiting.
- 28:47Speaker 1: As of last week, reportedly there were five million tickets
- 28:51Speaker 1: available unsold because of how expensive they were, mostly and
- 28:57Speaker 1: there's all kinds of issues with visas and teams and
- 29:00Speaker 1: fans getting into the country. And yes, and the government
- 29:03Speaker 1: dropped its fifteen thousand dollars tariff bond. They were going
- 29:07Speaker 1: to do some bonding for certain countr if you're from
- 29:10Speaker 1: certain countries.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Iran, by the way, was supposed to be in Tucson
- 29:15Speaker 2: training there. They're going to be training in Tijuana.
- 29:18Speaker 1: And there are reports that our government is telling Iran
- 29:22Speaker 1: that when they play in the United States they have
- 29:24Speaker 1: to fly into the United States to the venue and
- 29:26Speaker 1: then fly out that night. Take that for what you will,
- 29:31Speaker 1: but that seems like a competitive disadvantage for sure. Remember
- 29:36Speaker 1: this year it's a forty eight team tournament, the most expanded,
- 29:41Speaker 1: the largest World Cup ever. Goes down to a thirty
- 29:44Speaker 1: two team knockout stage after the group stage.
- 29:47Speaker 2: A group stage, the top.
- 29:48Speaker 1: Two teams in each group plus wildcards are the best
- 29:51Speaker 1: third place winners advanced to the thirty round to thirty two.
- 29:54Speaker 1: There's a round of thirty two match here in the
- 29:55Speaker 1: first days of July in Seattle. Then it'll be a
- 29:58Speaker 1: round of sixteen and knockout stage. Another round of sixteen
- 30:03Speaker 1: match is going to be in Seattle a few days
- 30:06Speaker 1: after the round of thirty two match in early July,
- 30:09Speaker 1: and then of course the quarterfinals, the semifinals, and the
- 30:11Speaker 1: final is in the Middle Lands outside New York City
- 30:14Speaker 1: in mid June. Mid July for the World Cup Final,
- 30:17Speaker 1: where tickets are just astronomical, as you can imagine, five
- 30:21Speaker 1: thousand dollars in up to even sniff the place.
- 30:25Speaker 2: That's the same price.
- 30:26Speaker 1: As Game three tonight of the Nicks and Spurs and
- 30:28Speaker 1: Madison Square Garden in the NBA Finals, forty nine hundred dollars.
- 30:31Speaker 1: We talked about that. President's going to be there. It's
- 30:33Speaker 1: on Channel four at five point thirty. The Stanley Cup
- 30:36Speaker 1: Finals is tomorrow night. Game four with the Vegas Golden
- 30:40Speaker 1: Knights have been in two games of one lead on Carolina.
- 30:42Speaker 1: It's been an unbelievable series that you can hear that
- 30:45Speaker 1: game tomorrow night here on ninety three point three KJR
- 30:48Speaker 1: and we'll go live next to Las Vegas and we
- 30:51Speaker 1: will talk to somebody who has been covering it from
- 30:54Speaker 1: the start, Case Keefer of the Las Vegas Sun, about
- 30:58Speaker 1: the Vegas Golden Knight, Carolina Hurricanes and what a fabulous
- 31:02Speaker 1: Stanley Cup Final that has been. We'll talk to Las
- 31:04Speaker 1: Vegas next on ninety three point three kJ RFM
