- 0:04SPEAKER_00: Well, good morning.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: It's Proverbs 3.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Start with your wall.
- 0:10Hi,
- 0:11I'm Ernie Lansford,
- 0:12and this is Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: A proverb each day keeps stinking thinking away.
- 0:20This podcast is about bringing timeless biblical wisdom into
- 0:24the marketplace,
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: where influence is real,
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: choices are constant,
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: and relationships matter more than results.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: So, grab your coffee, tea, latte, soda, or water, and let's get started.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: Today, I am reading from chapter 3.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: of Marketplace Proverbs Volume 3,
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Ego,
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Humility,
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: and the KPI That Matters the Most,
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: that I published earlier this year.
- 0:53So,
- 0:53let's start with Proverbs 3,
- 0:55verses 32 through 35,
- 0:59using the NIV translation.
- 1:02Quote,
- 1:03"...for the Lord detests the perverse,
- 1:06but takes the upright into his confidence.
- 1:10The Lord's curse is on the house of the wicked,
- 1:13but he blesses the home of the righteous.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: He mocks proud mockers, but shows favor to the humble and oppressed."
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: The wise inherit honor, but fools get only shame, end quote.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: That's Proverbs 3, verses 32 through 35 from the NIV translation.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 1:38we often look at the condition of the marketplace or the world
- 1:43or our community for
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: that matter,
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: and sometimes we can feel overwhelmed.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: morally, spiritually, economically, and relationally.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: It seems like everything could be in disrepair at times.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: There are walls that are broken down,
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: and trust is eroded,
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: and relationships are,
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: frankly,
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: replaced with the click-and-ship transaction mindset.
- 2:11I was studying the book of Nehemiah with a group of friends
- 2:15that I lead using the
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: YouVers and Bible app recently.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: And the book of Nehemiah focuses on leadership.
- 2:27Nehemiah led a group of Israelites in rebuilding the wall
- 2:31around their city.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: Now,
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: most of us might be tempted to analyze the entire wall,
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: the problem,
- 2:39SPEAKER_00: and then freeze,
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: which in my previous corporate speak is known as analysis paralysis.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: However, Nehemiah offers us a different perspective.
- 2:50He didn't call a meeting to assign a committee to map out the
- 2:53whole city.
- 2:55Instead,
- 2:56each person was tasked with rebuilding the wall directly in
- 3:02front of their house.
- 3:03The priest,
- 3:04the workers,
- 3:06the people,
- 3:07each focused on their own section of responsibilities.
- 3:12Reading Nehemiah 3.28,
- 3:14quote,
- 3:15the priest made repairs,
- 3:18each in front of his own house.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: And what happened?
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: In just 52 days,
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: the entire wall was rebuilt,
- 3:27SPEAKER_00: not out of ego,
- 3:29SPEAKER_00: not due to strategy slide decks,
- 3:32SPEAKER_00: but because of humility,
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: personal ownership,
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: and faithful action,
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: one section at a time.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: By the way,
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: when I said not out of ego,
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: that prompted me to insert something I read the other day,
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: that there is an acronym for ego.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Edging God out.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: And wow, does that really sum it up?
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: But let's continue.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: So it's similar to what Nehemiah did.
- 4:08We don't fix the brokenness in our corner of our marketplace or
- 4:11culture by shouting
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: about it or complaining about it.
- 4:16or going on social media and saying woe is me instead we do so
- 4:21by starting with our
- 4:23part of the wall our relationships our conversations our
- 4:29presentations and
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: attitudes toward customers co-workers and even our competitors
- 4:36Sometimes we break down more barriers by building with a single
- 4:41brick of trust
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: through a simple partnership than by sending out a thousand messages.
- 4:48SPEAKER_00: The KPI that matters most isn't public applause.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: It's private integrity.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: Frank Laubach,
- 4:56a missionary who helped 60 million people learn to read through
- 5:00the each one teach
- 5:02SPEAKER_00: one concept,
- 5:04He understood that he didn't attempt to reach the entire world
- 5:09in a single day.
- 5:11Instead,
- 5:12he partnered with one person and challenged them to partner
- 5:16with another.
- 5:17SPEAKER_00: And that's how we rebuild walls.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: That's how we rebuild trust.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: So let me ask you this question.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: What is your section of the wall?
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: Start there.
- 5:28That is where stewardship begins,
- 5:31and that is where partner relationships are born.
- 5:36Our customer success code for the day is you influence the
- 5:40marketplace for God by
- 5:42SPEAKER_00: beginning with your section of the wall fruitfully,
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: humbly,
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: and one relationship at a time.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: Here's your action points for today.
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: Identify your wall.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: What's directly in front of you that needs repair?
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Trust, communication, consistency, attitude, relationships?
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Action point number two is focus small.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Stay faithful.
- 6:11Who is one customer,
- 6:14one team member,
- 6:15or one neighbor you can serve better today?
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: And then...
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: Personalize Nehemiah's prayer.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Lord, strengthen my hands.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: Then build what is yours to build.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: And then reframe your KPI.
- 6:33Today's success isn't measured by volume,
- 6:38but by values and significance added to others.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Let's pray.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: Lord Jesus, thank you for this time.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Thank you for the opportunity for me to share my
- 6:52My thoughts that you have given me over the years and the ideas
- 6:58and the fact that I
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: can share these here in a country that has freedom of speech.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: And we can do this without fear of the authorities.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: Lord, give me, give the listeners the courage to begin, to rebuild.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: the walls that are right in front of us,
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: whatever they may be,
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: break down the barriers and rebuild trust,
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: rebuild relationships,
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: rebuild consistency,
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: rebuild our approach to customer success mastery.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: We thank you.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Amen.
- 7:44Well,
- 7:45thanks for joining me for today's episode of Marketplace
- 7:47Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: If this message has encouraged you, please share it.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: And remember, success is temporal, but significance is infinite.
- 7:59SPEAKER_00: See you tomorrow.
