- 0:00Let's play one more time as we enter into the word of God and
- 0:03see what he has in store for us. Father.
- 0:11Right now we choose to lift our hearts to you.
- 0:14As we sang, You have given us new mercies this morning.
- 0:18Lord, we ask that you would bless us with an intensification
- 0:22with your presence. Lord, that you would take this
- 0:25word, your word and drive it deep into our hearts Lord.
- 0:28We pray that every man. Would disappear except Christ.
- 0:34Jesus, Lord, that he would be seen.
- 0:37Loved adored exalted and lifted High.
- 0:41Take your word, Lord. As we heard yesterday.
- 0:46And make it come. And manifest in our flesh in our
- 0:52lives. Lord remove any confusion
- 0:56distraction coming. And visit our hearts again.
- 1:02We ask these things in Jesus name.
- 1:05Amen. As we scale through the
- 1:08scriptures, we realize that there are a number of titles
- 1:13that God reveals to his people throughout the generations.
- 1:17These various badges that God carries Reveal.
- 1:21Something about both his attributes who he is and his
- 1:27ability what he's able to do. These things are found in his
- 1:33name alone. Nevermind in his actions.
- 1:37And as his people, we find ourselves in prayer and worship
- 1:42identifying and relating to God with various names.
- 1:46Do we not? Holy an anointed one Redeemer.
- 1:52Son of God, Son of Man, King of Kings, Lord of lords, healer,
- 1:58great physician Prince of Peace. and we thank God for that
- 2:03because we benefit from understanding who he is through
- 2:06these names, his name reveals who he is, and yet They might
- 2:13context. At least there is one title that
- 2:16God gives of himself, that you don't really hear often.
- 2:20It's not really said in prayer, sometimes maybe in songs, we may
- 2:23be here it in Bible study, But it's a name of God nonetheless
- 2:29and it's found in the book of Exodus chapter 3 verse 6.
- 2:35It's a title that God gives himself very early in the Bible
- 2:37at a very crucial time in Redemptive history to a very
- 2:40important figure, amongst God's roster of servants.
- 2:45God says in Exodus 3 Verse 6 to Moses, And he said, I am the god
- 2:52of your father, the god of Abraham, the god of Isaac, and
- 2:58the god of Jacob and Moses. Hid his face for, he was afraid
- 3:04to look at God. This is a reference that God
- 3:08gives himself. This is a title that God of
- 3:10Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and God in his wisdom.
- 3:13Amongst all the other things that he couldn't reveal himself
- 3:15with he chooses to expose himself to reveal himself, To
- 3:20Moses in this matter. I am the god of your father's
- 3:23Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. And here's the question, why?
- 3:28What is that name? Even mean, what significance
- 3:31does that have? Well this morning I believe it
- 3:35has three at least three significant Revelations, about
- 3:38who God is. Number one, it reveals something
- 3:42that we saying that God is a faithful God.
- 3:47He's a promise keeping God. See when God chooses to reveal
- 3:50himself this way to Moses, it was at a specific time.
- 3:54Moses was going to be chosen to be a vessel to go and deliver
- 3:57the people of Israel from Egypt and for hundreds of years that
- 4:01people were what suffering under Affliction from an oppressor.
- 4:04And it was at this moment that God chooses to use a man to
- 4:08deliver as an extension of his grace.
- 4:10And this is what he's saying to Moses.
- 4:14I've made a promise. Many years ago.
- 4:19To Abraham and I passed that promise down to Isaac.
- 4:22And I passed that promise down to Jacob and my promise can be
- 4:25summarized in this, I promise to make a people and I promise to
- 4:30take that people to birth a nation and to bring them into a
- 4:33land and to inhabit that land, that's what my promise is.
- 4:38And though, I've said it many years ago, and though, it seems
- 4:40like I've been silent. I've now come to manifest the
- 4:44reality of my faithfulness. And that's why you look at verse
- 4:4815 here, When God tells Moses again to go to the people with
- 4:55this name in mind, he says, look, God also said to Moses say
- 4:59this to the people. I'm not just saying this to you,
- 5:01Moses. I'm not just telling you that I
- 5:04am the god of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
- 5:05I'm telling you to go tell the entire nation that I am the god
- 5:10of your father's, the god of Abraham, the god of Isaac, and
- 5:12the god of Jacob. He has sent me to you.
- 5:18After 400 years. This is when God chooses to
- 5:21reveal himself this way and this is how we understand what this
- 5:24name means for us. When God Says something, he
- 5:28means it. He is immutable.
- 5:33He is unchanging. He's unwavering.
- 5:35If God said it in his word, he has no intention nor does he
- 5:39even have the ability because he's not a man that can lie to
- 5:43change his mind on what he said. So every time I come to this
- 5:48word, I can trust that what he said, he's going to keep who he
- 5:52says he is. He is what he will do in the
- 5:55future. He's gonna do now.
- 5:58I thank God for that because just like the Israelites I can
- 6:01be going through so much. And yet trust that he's the god
- 6:05of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, I said something before and I'm
- 6:09going to make it happen. So guess what?
- 6:11If Jesus said he's coming back, he's coming back.
- 6:14If Jesus says that he's going to redeem us and bring us to a
- 6:17place that he's preparing for us, he's going to bring us to
- 6:19that place that he has prepared for us if he's gonna wipe out
- 6:22everything else so that he can establish his kingdom, guess
- 6:25what? He's going to do it.
- 6:26Well, it seems like it's kind of quiet.
- 6:30Seems like nothing's really happening based on that promise
- 6:33like the Israelis hundreds of years.
- 6:35Where's This Promise? Keeping God.
- 6:39But just like Moses, he will show up.
- 6:43And he will keep his word. That's true in a corporate
- 6:46level. That's true for his program for
- 6:47the universe and that's true for you.
- 6:49And I as individuals God is a promise keeping God I can trust
- 6:54in him, I can lean on him. I can take this word and know
- 6:57that it is true forever but it doesn't just end there Jesus
- 7:01quotes. This verse which reveals the
- 7:02second point of what this title means about, God, I would
- 7:05encourage you to turn to Matthew 24:32 and see what Jesus says
- 7:09here. The context is this you had a
- 7:11group of liberal religious, people called the Sadducees.
- 7:14They didn't like Miracles and Supernatural stuff and believe
- 7:17that there is a resurrection and that were angels and Spirits
- 7:20now. No, no.
- 7:21That's All foolishness and so in an attempt to try to trick
- 7:25Jesus, never a good idea by the way.
- 7:29They approached him and they try to create the scenario.
- 7:34To try to stump him in his understanding of the
- 7:36Resurrection. And Jesus replies in Matthew 22
- 7:4032. He says and as for the
- 7:43resurrection of the Dead, have you not read?
- 7:46He's tiny Sadducees. Have you not read?
- 7:50What was said to you by God and he quotes Exodus 36.
- 7:55I am the god of Abraham and the god of Isaac, and the god of
- 7:59Jacob. He is not a god of the dead, but
- 8:01of the living. Now, Jesus is a wise teacher,
- 8:05and a wise, evangelist, the Sadducees did not believe in any
- 8:08other books, except for the first five, books of the Bible.
- 8:11Jesus could have quoted a lot of books, a lot of verses, from the
- 8:14prophets to prove the resurrection, but he knew that
- 8:17they did not hold to Daniel, They did not hold to Isaiah
- 8:22only, the first five books. So, Jesus in his wisdom quotes
- 8:25from Exodus and proves the resurrection from The Exodus.
- 8:31but I love this, he says Have you not read?
- 8:35What was said to you? Now if we can put up, Mark
- 8:4012:26, this is the same story told in a different way with
- 8:43different wording and see what Jesus says in Mark 12 26.
- 8:46And it's very important because it tells us something about the
- 8:48power of the word of God. He says, and as for the dead
- 8:51being raised, have you not read in the book of Moses in the
- 8:54passage about the Bush? How God spoke to him?
- 8:59Saying the same thing. So in Matthew he says, listen
- 9:04have you not read? What was said to you?
- 9:07In Mark. He says, have you not read?
- 9:09What was said to him? Now we read Exodus, we realized
- 9:14that that Revelation that God gave was for Moses, it wasn't to
- 9:18the Sadducees that such as didn't even come to existence
- 9:21for hundreds. I mean hundreds of years but yet
- 9:22Jesus says, have you not read? What was said to you?
- 9:30You know what that tells me about the Bible.
- 9:32You know what that tells me about the stories that we read,
- 9:34you know, what it tells us about everything that's in Scripture
- 9:36that even though he said it to another person, even though he
- 9:38said, another time he had us in mind.
- 9:43He had us in mind, he wants to speak to you.
- 9:46And to me through Leviticus, he wants to speak to you to me, as
- 9:50he spoke to Moses and spoke to Samuel, and spoke to Jeremiah.
- 9:54He wants to speak to us when he speaks to them.
- 9:58Everything in the word of God has intended for us as well.
- 10:01It's not just a historical thing that we study Lord.
- 10:04What are you saying to me? And so when he says, have you
- 10:07not read? What was said to you, that God
- 10:09is the god of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
- 10:11I'm not just saying that to Moses.
- 10:13I'm saying it to Maranatha 2019 to every single person in this
- 10:16place. So now I got to know what that
- 10:20means and in the context here, Jesus quotes this title, to
- 10:25prove something about God's power.
- 10:28He says it reads the really carefully.
- 10:29I am present tense the god of Abraham not.
- 10:33I was I am right now. To say that Abraham, Isaac and
- 10:40Jacob, their bodies might be dead, but their Spirits are
- 10:43alive and they're with me. They're with me because I'm not
- 10:48the god of the dead, I'm the god of the living, their bodies are
- 10:51waiting to be resurrected, but they are with me right now.
- 10:55because that is the reality of our existence that when we
- 10:59escaped these bodies, we will be in the presence of God or in the
- 11:02place where God is Not and he's saying this to prove the
- 11:06resurrection, but this title means something for us that if
- 11:08you raised Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, he's going to raise me.
- 11:13That if they are in the presence of God when they gave their last
- 11:16breath, I will be in the presence of God when I give my
- 11:18last breath and you read in the Book of Matthew.
- 11:21Even earlier, he talks about two, destinations for two groups
- 11:25of people, and he says, people from the East and the west north
- 11:27and south, they will come and they will be gathered.
- 11:29And they will be in the Kingdom of Heaven doing what sitting at
- 11:32a table with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
- 11:36Imagine what that's going to be like part of Heaven is going to
- 11:39be sitting down with these guys. Part of the experience of
- 11:42glories that the Bible studies that we have.
- 11:45And even the session right now we're going to be able to hear
- 11:47about the faithfulness of God from Abraham's own lives.
- 11:51We're going to be able to talk about the goodness of God from
- 11:54Isaac's on mouth. We're going to hear about God's
- 11:57perseverance and his patience with us through Jacob.
- 12:03I'm not the god of the Dead on the god of the living.
- 12:06And he quotes that title to say life is coming to you.
- 12:10Life doesn't end here. Life's not finished here.
- 12:14There's a place where you're going to come.
- 12:16There's a place where I'm going to take you to, where you will
- 12:18be in my presence forever. Lastly, I think this is very
- 12:23important and this is the main point of the whole conference.
- 12:26The whole conference is going to be centered around the god of
- 12:28Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. But here's the last point, he is
- 12:33the god who works in and through different people As glorious as
- 12:39these truths are that, God is the promise, keeping God that
- 12:43God is the resurrector. If there's still some other
- 12:46component to this title, that is more relational than we think.
- 12:53He is the god of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.
- 12:57And God chooses to identify himself with each of them.
- 13:03You know, Abraham, Isaac. And Jacob could have taken up
- 13:06three verses 44 versus pops. To say and Abraham begat, Isaac,
- 13:12Isaac, begat, Jacob, and the seed passed down.
- 13:14It could have just been a genealogy thing.
- 13:15But you know what? Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob take
- 13:17up most of the Book of Genesis Why?
- 13:22And what we see there is that God walks with them and got
- 13:25talks with them and God leads them, and God promise, and God
- 13:28disciplines, and God test them individually.
- 13:32Because forgot to say, I'm the god of Abraham, Isaac, and
- 13:34Jacob, God is The God Who says, I'm personal.
- 13:41I'm not just the God for Christians.
- 13:44I'm not just a god of the Bible. I'm your God.
- 13:49I'm your friend. I'm your protector.
- 13:52I'm Your Leader. I'm your sanctifier.
- 13:57And so, we understand something about the personality of God.
- 14:00We understand something about the relationship that he longs
- 14:02to have with us as individuals. And as much as these men have
- 14:05something in common, they are very much different.
- 14:09Think about Abraham. Abraham had a father named Tara
- 14:14Abraham grew up in a place called earlier the Chaldeans.
- 14:18And Abraham perhaps we didn't realize this was not a man that
- 14:24was faithful to the Living. God, all his life.
- 14:27He lived in a pagan land and Abraham who we call.
- 14:30The father of Faith was actually a worshipper of false gods.
- 14:35That is Not Mere opinion. That is not speculation here.
- 14:38This verse when Joshua preaches to his people, look what he says
- 14:41about Abraham and Joshua 24:2, just listen.
- 14:44It says in Joshua said to all the people thus says the Lord
- 14:49the god of Israel long ago, your father's live, beyond the
- 14:54Euphrates Tara, the father of Abraham, and of nahor, and they
- 14:58served other gods. So we have this understand that
- 15:04Abraham just pops on the scene and God calls him, because he
- 15:06was faithful know when God found Abraham, when Abraham lived,
- 15:10most of his life. It was actually and idolatry.
- 15:15Living for and worshipping other deities.
- 15:18Other than the true and living God.
- 15:20And we understand from Genesis 12, that God calls this man,
- 15:24clearly at the age of 75. He not only caused him but he
- 15:29uses them in a mighty and glorious way.
- 15:31And here's how we understand something about Abraham.
- 15:35God, being the god of Abraham tells me this tells us this that
- 15:38if you've lived most of your life, most of your existence for
- 15:41yourself in your sin worshipping, even false god
- 15:44including yourself God is able to redeem you, God is able to
- 15:49renew you and God is able to empower you.
- 15:53For the rest of your life. And God can flip the script no
- 15:57matter how long you live to the human, I like Abraham.
- 16:00You might have wasted your existence for the most part but
- 16:04when I hear that God is the god of Abraham.
- 16:06What I hear is that God is a God that can redeem anybody because
- 16:10it's never too late and not just redeem that but have a plan for
- 16:14them. For the rest of their lives.
- 16:17God is the god of the one who can save you.
- 16:21Even if you're dying in your body, Is that you?
- 16:28You feel like you've wasted most of your teenage years.
- 16:30Do you feel like you've wasted your high school years, you're
- 16:32wasting your college Years? Do you feel like, now, you are
- 16:35just Awakening to the reality. Oh yeah, life is beyond the gods
- 16:40that I've created in my life. The things that I've pursued and
- 16:42worshipped God tells us through this title that he could save,
- 16:48you redeem, you renew, you restore, you and do things
- 16:53through you that you never thought you can imagine.
- 16:55If he did it for Abraham, you can do it for you.
- 16:58But it's not just the god of Abraham, the god of Isaac.
- 17:02And that's different because the god of Isaac concerning.
- 17:06Isaac is much different than Abraham.
- 17:08Isaac didn't grow up in a pagan land.
- 17:11Isaac isn't one that we hear that was worshipping false gods.
- 17:16Isaac was somebody that grew up in a household of faith Shirley
- 17:21Isaac heard the stories from his father, Abraham.
- 17:24From his mother, Sarah the faithfulness of God.
- 17:27Surely Isaac. When he came to that epic scene
- 17:30in Genesis 22, when he was willing to lay down his own
- 17:33life, on the altar, realize the intervention of God and even
- 17:37himself. Got a glimpse of a gospel when
- 17:39God provided a substitute for his own life.
- 17:43He heard it. He seen it.
- 17:44He smelted. He was in that environment.
- 17:48His whole life. Isaac in our context is the kid
- 17:52that grew up in the Christian home.
- 17:55He's the one since birth new about truth.
- 17:59But he's also the god of Isaac, you realize that, right?
- 18:03Because you read Isaac's life and you realize that Isaac
- 18:06experiences something of the goodness of God that God still
- 18:10calls Isaac even though Isaac was so familiar with God, that
- 18:14Isaac didn't have this radical shift this, this transformation
- 18:17that he lived for idols and he lived in a pagan land, God calls
- 18:20him out of that land to an unknown.
- 18:21And no Isaac, just grew up in it.
- 18:25Yeah. God still says I'm going to
- 18:28expose and reveal my goodness to you my Mercy, to you, my plans
- 18:31for you and through you. I still have a plan for The
- 18:34Isaacs. The Isaacs are not outside of my
- 18:39ability and my willingness in my wanting to show myself strong to
- 18:43them. He's the god of God of Isaac,
- 18:47which tells me something. Listen.
- 18:48If you probably majority of the place in this place, grew up in
- 18:52a Christian home with faithful parents.
- 18:55You might think that there is no plan, there might be no
- 18:58testimony. There might be no ability to
- 19:00relate to God. I mean, I've heard it over and
- 19:02over again. I haven't experienced God's love
- 19:05like that drug dealer. Did or that gang member did?
- 19:08I haven't experienced the goodness of God, because I
- 19:10didn't experience Darkness or I wasn't so filthy and sent to
- 19:13know the Redemptive power of his blood and so they get bored.
- 19:20And they just kind of cruise through life normally, but
- 19:22brothers and sisters realize, he's also the god of Isaac.
- 19:27And he shows himself to Isaac and he reveals himself to us.
- 19:30He speaks to Isaac the same way, he spoke to Abraham, and Jacob.
- 19:35So, you and I must never believe that.
- 19:36Just because I might have grown up in the certain context that I
- 19:39cannot know, God, the same way Abraham did, or Jacob did.
- 19:46But he's also the god of Jacob. Jacob is interesting.
- 19:53Because Jacob, like Isaac grew up in that Household of Faith.
- 19:59He had believing parents. I mean, Isaac knew the goodness
- 20:03of God. He had his wife in a miraculous
- 20:06fashion. He seen God bless him abundantly
- 20:10even right after he came out of backsliding, Genesis 26.
- 20:16But Jacob was different than Isaac in this.
- 20:18That we are introduced to him in a very negative light.
- 20:22Then when Jacob steps on the scene with his brother, Esau,
- 20:24both of them. Are incomplete rebellion and
- 20:28contradiction to what their conviction should have.
- 20:30Been. So how are we introduced to
- 20:34Jacob? Well, he lives up to his name.
- 20:37He's a trickster. He's a deceiver.
- 20:41He's a liar, he's a manipulator. And he eventually has to leave
- 20:46home because of his own sin and he's found in a Wilderness and
- 20:48he's found really in a mess for a good portion of his life.
- 20:55And Jacob speaks something about the one who grew up in a house
- 20:58where he's heard the Bible stories.
- 20:59He's went to Sunday school. He fell asleep in the youth
- 21:02meetings. He was dragged to conferences.
- 21:07And when he wanted to have his way, he would try to have his
- 21:10way. It was all about the flash.
- 21:12It was all about mine, the name. Jacob, as we're going to find
- 21:15out this, not just mean deceiver.
- 21:16It means he'll grab her. You know what Jacob was.
- 21:20He was a grabber. I want this.
- 21:23This is mine. I want that.
- 21:24That is mine. I want Her.
- 21:26She's Mine. I want the blessing.
- 21:27It's mine. I grab.
- 21:29I grab. I grab.
- 21:31It's about me. It's not about giving it's not
- 21:35about dying to self is not about extending though it's about how
- 21:38much can I gather in for myself? That's Jacob.
- 21:40And a lot of people in Christian households live just like that.
- 21:44I want to live for me, never mind the glory of God. yet God,
- 21:53Is the god of Jacobs. So as much as Jacob, try to do
- 21:58it, his own way. You see God chasing after Jacob.
- 22:03And as much as Jacob lived. To really bring shame to the
- 22:08name. God says, you know, Jacob as
- 22:13much as you think that you're going to do this your own way
- 22:15and you think that you've messed up to a degree, where it's
- 22:17unredeemable? I'm going to Seoul radically
- 22:19shift you. I'm in a sobre que Jacob, I'm
- 22:22going to so reveal myself to you that.
- 22:24I will literally physically change the way you walk.
- 22:29For the rest of his life, he would limp as a testimony of how
- 22:32God can change Jacobs into Israel's.
- 22:38And so, you have people. Unfortunately, Christian parents
- 22:44that approach and say my son is not living.
- 22:48According to how we taught him. My daughter is not living.
- 22:52According to way, we've raised her up.
- 22:55They're Grabbers, they're living for self.
- 22:59They have their own Ambitions. They have their own Pursuits.
- 23:02And yet, here's a message of hope.
- 23:04He's the god of Jacobs. So what do we understand when
- 23:10God says, I am the god of Abraham, the god of Isaac, the
- 23:12god of Jacob. This is what we understand.
- 23:14Whether you've lived most of your life herself living in
- 23:17idolatry living in sin. God can save you, change, you,
- 23:20and use you, whether you grew up in a household of faith, you
- 23:25don't have this radical story. And you feel as though you need
- 23:31that to know God in a special way, he's the god of Isaac's and
- 23:35he wants to speak to you and reveal himself to you just like
- 23:37the Abraham. Or whether you're like Jacob.
- 23:42You hear it, you know, it you understand it.
- 23:45You just haven't had an encounter with God yet.
- 23:49God is the god of Jacob, and he is so patient.
- 23:52So loving so forgiving, and he is so jealous for his glory.
- 23:55Do you know that he wants to use you in a way that it will
- 23:58display his manifest love? It's amazing.
- 24:04How God says, I am the god of Jacob even after his name is
- 24:08changed to Israel, he still chooses to identify himself with
- 24:11Jacob. As much as these men were
- 24:17different. And that's the point of this
- 24:19conference. We're going to explore in
- 24:21different sessions, these men and how God dealt with them
- 24:23differently. What principles they offer us
- 24:25through their lives. God has a commentary about all
- 24:29three men. It is astounding.
- 24:31What he says about these three men in the New Testament It's
- 24:36actually shattering how God actually comments on their
- 24:41lives. This is one to really highlight
- 24:45that's in Hebrews 11. Hebrews 11.
- 24:56Verse 16. Now when you understand the
- 25:00context you realize that he just finished speaking about Abraham,
- 25:03Isaac and Jacob And he says this in verse 16.
- 25:09He says, but as it is, they Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, they
- 25:15desire a better country. That is a Heavenly one.
- 25:20Now, listen to what God says about them.
- 25:23Please pay attention to this. Therefore, God is not ashamed to
- 25:30be called their God. For, he has prepared for them a
- 25:36city. God is not ashamed to be called
- 25:44their God. now, I look at that verse and I say praise God but I
- 25:51look at that verse also and I say, oh God, Because for God to
- 25:57be able to say, I'm not ashamed to be called their God implies
- 26:01that he can be ashamed to be called.
- 26:03Someone's God. I don't want to be one where God
- 26:14says, mmm. Yeah, he calls me Lord.
- 26:23Yeah, he says I'm God. Oh, but Abraham all.
- 26:32I miss God. I'm his Lord.
- 26:38I'm his master. Well, what about him?
- 26:41Yeah, I don't know how this works, really?
- 26:43I'm trying to fit this into my own theology, but I understand
- 26:46from The Book of Proverbs that even an Earthly father, if
- 26:48you've read Proverbs carefully, there are many instructions
- 26:51given for a son, not to bring shame to their father, for their
- 26:55daughter. Not to bring reproach to her
- 26:56mother. Here's the reality.
- 26:59If we are all believers in this place, we are all children of
- 27:03God. We are all adopted.
- 27:05We Are All in the Family by the grace and the Lord of ours
- 27:10saving sold. He is the one that can redeem us
- 27:13and bring us to that place. Yes by his finished work but We
- 27:17have to understand that even in an Earthly setting in a familiar
- 27:19setting that children relate to their parents differently and
- 27:22parents relate to their children differently.
- 27:25So when it says about these three men that he's not ashamed
- 27:27to be called their God, my question is why what did Abraham
- 27:31Isaac? And Jacob have forgot to say,
- 27:33I'm their God. And I will declare and he
- 27:38declared it through his word. Was it because of their spotless
- 27:45lies? Was it because of their
- 27:48consistent faithfulness? Was it because of their absence
- 27:54of failure? Because I read Abraham, Isaac
- 27:57and Jacob. And guess what?
- 27:58I see failure. Moments where they stepped out
- 28:04of faith more than once. I mean you hear the audible
- 28:08voice of God, the audible voice of God and your select.
- 28:11Yeah. Hey God still says, I'm not a
- 28:15shame. I mean, what was it, was it
- 28:18their gifting was at their abilities.
- 28:20What was it for God to say? My heart is stirred towards
- 28:24these meant to say, I'm their God.
- 28:28It's right there in the verse. It says here, but as it is, they
- 28:35desire. So wasn't even necessarily about
- 28:43what they did is about what they had in their hearts.
- 28:46All this is powerful Listen to this God's Delight in his heart
- 28:53listen God's Delight in his heart towards these men was
- 28:58provoked by the desire in their hearts.
- 29:03What move God's heart to the light in these men was when he
- 29:07Zoom past through the failure. He Zoom pass through the moral
- 29:10failure. He all these things, all these
- 29:11mistakes, all these hiccups, he Zoom past all of that and he
- 29:15looks into the hearts and he saw something in each of them, they
- 29:17desire. What do they desire?
- 29:25A better country? What they lived for.
- 29:29What provoked them, the Throne of their affections.
- 29:32Their Throne of their Ambitions with something Beyond this life.
- 29:37It was nothing of this world, it was nothing that was found here
- 29:41even when they were called to live in a place where they don't
- 29:43even know really down deep inside.
- 29:45They wanted something Beyond they wanted the Abode of God,
- 29:49they wanted to be in his presence, they wanted to be
- 29:51where he was, they wanted something that was otherworldly
- 29:56and this move God's heart to say though.
- 29:58You see these distractions and though you see the land, and
- 30:00though you've been blessed with many flocks and let em all these
- 30:03things. Peace with your enemies, you
- 30:05still have a desire. Other than these things.
- 30:07And so, I'm not ashamed to be called your God.
- 30:12So for me to move into that favor for me to move into that
- 30:15position with God, where he can look at me, says I'm not ashamed
- 30:18to be called as God, in 2019 is all found and what I truly want
- 30:23in this life. What do I want?
- 30:27What's really in my desires? I mean, listen, if we just open
- 30:30your heart even this morning and we look inside and see, what are
- 30:34your Joys and what are your Pursuits and what really brings
- 30:38Glee to you? What would it be?
- 30:44Is it? Well this and that.
- 30:45Well listen what's at stake? Here is the smile of God.
- 30:51What's at stake? Here, is God being able to look
- 30:54over you and be able to, I Love The Book of Job because Satan
- 30:58doesn't introduce job to God. God introduces job to Satan,
- 31:02just have you seen him? He's blessed, he's rich, but he
- 31:09fears me. Yeah.
- 31:11But because he loves the stuff that you give him touch his
- 31:14stuff. Let me up the anti touch his
- 31:17body. And watch.
- 31:24And I think I mean you read in Isaiah even where Abraham is
- 31:27referred to as a friend of God. All of that.
- 31:33Is found in the central truth. Found in Hebrews 11 16, they
- 31:38desired. A better country.
- 31:44Because it speaks about their desire for him.
- 31:50And that's why David was a man after God's heart.
- 31:53He failed, he royally messed up, no pun intended.
- 32:00He got, it can still identify him that way.
- 32:02And then you look at Saul who messed up not to the degree that
- 32:06David that in my opinion and God says, get rid of him.
- 32:11Why? Desire.
- 32:16Saul wanted position, David wanted presents.
- 32:21It's all about desire. And as we walk in that desire
- 32:24and we fall and we fail, there's no shame.
- 32:30And my whole life, I've heard of understand and never be ashamed
- 32:33of God. Don't ever be ashamed of the
- 32:34Gospel, don't ever be ashamed of the truth of the scriptures, but
- 32:38I have very rarely heard that concept of God.
- 32:43Not being a shitting me. Oh, thank God.
- 32:47That positionally in Christ. We Are All Sons and Daughters.
- 32:50Thank God for that. But practically relationally
- 32:54experientially Lord. Look into my heart.
- 33:00Do you see what you want to see? Lord.
- 33:04Look past my failures. Forgive me look past my
- 33:07inconsistencies, look past my fault.
- 33:09Look past, the thoughts that come in and crash sometimes
- 33:12against this one thing I have Lord and see all of it through
- 33:16this lens. I desire you about everything.
- 33:20I desire a better country. I'm not bound to this world.
- 33:22I'm, I'm a soldier and I live in tenza.
- 33:25I'm not I'm not stuck here. Lord, I need you.
- 33:27I want you. And God can look down and say I
- 33:32found one, I'm not ashamed to call his God.
- 33:39I want that more than anything. I want that commentary of my
- 33:43life more than anything. Forget anything else?
- 33:48Forget the praise of, man. Forget the titles.
- 33:50Forget the forget it for God to say hi.
- 33:57That desire that he has in his heart.
- 34:00Moves my heart. This is one in whom I can say, I
- 34:05miss God. I'm his Lord, I'm his master, we
- 34:09should be able to unassuming Lisa, he's my God, he's my Lord,
- 34:12he's my master, we should Proclaim that from the rooftops,
- 34:14but for God, to save from heaven, Down on the Earth.
- 34:19Say, that's my son. That's my daughter.
- 34:22Look at the desire in her heart. Look at all the things that come
- 34:24their way. Look at all the other Christians
- 34:26distracted with money. And all this otherworldly stuff,
- 34:31but him, I'm is God. Just going to end it there.
- 34:43Because I think that's enough for us to be able to say, Lord
- 34:46do something in me. When you and I hear that God is
- 34:51the god of Abraham. Isaac.
- 34:53And Jacob. What we hear is this, he's the
- 34:56promise keeper. If he said it, he means it.
- 35:00He is the resurrector the same way that they are right now in
- 35:04the presence of God and their bodies are awaiting to be
- 35:06glorified. So you and I have hope to
- 35:09realize that when we pass from this life, to the next, we will
- 35:11fellowship with these men. And we will be able to hear from
- 35:15their own mouths. Over some dinner, how good God
- 35:19is. But we also hear this, he is a
- 35:23god that is relational and he works in each and every single
- 35:27one of us and no matter where we come from.
- 35:29No matter what. We've grown up in no matter
- 35:31what, we've made his mistakes, God is still able to do
- 35:34something in and through us. And ultimately, they all have
- 35:37this. One thing in common though, they
- 35:38were all unique. I'm not ashamed to be called
- 35:41their God because they have a desire.
- 35:44For my presence. My kingdom, my will That's what
- 35:52God wants to be able to say about all of us.
- 35:56I think God it's not about performance.
- 35:59I thank God that he doesn't keep record of my wrong.
- 36:03I thank God that his smile is not based necessarily.
- 36:09On this or that, but he looks deep inside.
- 36:13And he sees the desire. And that moves his heart.
- 36:18Can we see him this morning and thank you for such a wonderful?
- 36:21God, we are praying to, in a moment, the god of Abraham,
- 36:24Isaac, and Jacob. Let's pray, just meditate on
- 36:29these truths before we do so corporately.
- 36:35Lord, we recognize you this morning as the god of Abraham,
- 36:38Isaac, and Jacob. With thank you that your
- 36:46personal. That you want to walk with each
- 36:49of us. You want to talk to each of us.
- 36:51You want to reveal yourself uniquely and individually Teach
- 36:56of us. Lord, we pray that.
- 37:03If there are any people in here, that might be any one of those,
- 37:07they can relate to any one of those people that you would make
- 37:09yourself known. Now they can see that, no matter
- 37:14where I am right now, God is still willing to relate to me.
- 37:20The father even now we pray for this corporate desire that you
- 37:23would be able to save this place over each person.
- 37:25I'm not ashamed. To be called their God.
- 37:31Because they desire. Better country.
- 37:38Lord, you call us to set our minds on the things above.
- 37:40You call us to set our affections on you Above All
- 37:45Things. So right now we pray that you
- 37:51would do that work in each heart.
- 37:56That every heart would be able to confidently display, the
- 37:59desire for greater things in you.
- 38:03And that would be the very thing that moves your heart towards
- 38:06us. But we praise you, we worship
- 38:15you invited this title that you've given to us.
- 38:21In Jesus name, amen.
