- 0:05Speaker 1: More fun than a human being should be allowed to have.
- 0:07Speaker 1: It's the Morning Show with Me and him and this
- 0:11Speaker 1: guy joining us from the Talent Training Group. He is JD. Johnson,
- 0:17Speaker 1: co founder of All Things Talent and co host of
- 0:19Speaker 1: Talent Outdoors. How you doing, friend, I'm doing Greatshi. I
- 0:23Speaker 1: was just telling you, you know, Thanksgiving, loved it great
- 0:26Speaker 1: to be around the kids, and they gave me a gift.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Someone gave me a gift and I've been fighting it
- 0:31Speaker 1: ever since. But at any rate, and as I said,
- 0:35Speaker 1: I'm willing friends, because it's Christmas, to surrender some time,
- 0:40Speaker 1: to take some questions if you want to. We've got
- 0:42Speaker 1: an email question already and you're gonna roll your eyes
- 0:44Speaker 1: a second you hear it. I know you will. But
- 0:47Speaker 1: if you want to send me a question or call in,
- 0:51Speaker 1: ask a question, Ask a question about shopping for the
- 0:54Speaker 1: gun lover in your family or for yourself. I mean,
- 0:57Speaker 1: it's okay, it's okay to spend a buck or two
- 0:59Speaker 1: on your side off it's eight five zero two zero
- 1:02Speaker 1: five to b FLA. But I'm not going to beat
- 1:03Speaker 1: it around because I have a list of things that
- 1:06Speaker 1: I want to talk about.
- 1:07Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Here's a question from David. If you are using a burner,
- 1:11Speaker 1: go ahead, go ahead, go ahead with pepper gas or
- 1:17Speaker 1: rubber pellets. Is there any chance of getting charged for
- 1:20Speaker 1: assault or anything else?
- 1:22Speaker 3: Absolutely?
- 1:23Speaker 1: Yeah, depends on when you're using.
- 1:25Speaker 3: It, tends on depends on the circumstances. You better have.
- 1:28Speaker 3: You better have a use of force scenario. You know,
- 1:34Speaker 3: it's no different than hitting somebody with us So you
- 1:36Speaker 3: have a cane, a walking cane, and you you're the
- 1:40Speaker 3: aggressor in the situation, hit somebody with a cane, or
- 1:43Speaker 3: you know, slap somebody. You know, you get mad and
- 1:46Speaker 3: throw a drink in somebody's face. That's that's a battery.
- 1:49Speaker 3: You know. It is what it is.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I'm curious though, because it does raise an interesting set
- 1:54Speaker 1: of questions in that does given that that burners are
- 1:59Speaker 1: legal to carry for people eighteen and older, you can
- 2:02Speaker 1: openly carry those, and you can carry them wherever you
- 2:05Speaker 1: want to. Basically for the most part, you can. Does
- 2:09Speaker 1: the same standard of discharging one of those a launcher?
- 2:13Speaker 1: Is it the same as you know, fear of death
- 2:15Speaker 1: and great bodily harm?
- 2:17Speaker 3: No, it's not, because it's not a lethal It's not
- 2:20Speaker 3: a lethal device.
- 2:22Speaker 1: So would it be considered no different than punching back
- 2:26Speaker 1: correct or punching first if the situation warrants it.
- 2:30Speaker 3: So you're you're allowed to meet force with an equal
- 2:34Speaker 3: amount of force. So someone's charging you, right so that
- 2:38Speaker 3: you can you can punch that person, or you can
- 2:41Speaker 3: kick that person. You know you can. There's you can
- 2:43Speaker 3: defend yourself with it. Yeah, but it's not the same
- 2:46Speaker 3: standard as a firearm, because a firearm shooting at someone,
- 2:51Speaker 3: whether you hit them or not, is the use of
- 2:54Speaker 3: deadly force. Okay, because the firearm, if appropriately applied, will
- 3:02Speaker 3: cause death or great bodily harm. Yeah, So the burner,
- 3:07Speaker 3: any kind of launcher, any pepper ball launcher, is not
- 3:11Speaker 3: likely to cause death or great bodily harm.
- 3:13Speaker 1: Just don't be the instigator and use that.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Don't don't point it at somebody because you're having an
- 3:18Speaker 3: argument and you're mad at them. You know, we see
- 3:21Speaker 3: people cross that line all the time that that you know,
- 3:25Speaker 3: they're the ones out of control because they don't they
- 3:28Speaker 3: get into a or kerfuffle with somebody at the store
- 3:31Speaker 3: or something.
- 3:32Speaker 1: Yeah I disagree about something.
- 3:33Speaker 3: Yeah, you know that's in maintaining your civility in those
- 3:39Speaker 3: situations is important.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Would it be fair to also say, before we go
- 3:43Speaker 1: to a phone caller here that the way that some
- 3:46Speaker 1: of those devices are designed, they look like a legitimate
- 3:51Speaker 1: firearm too many. Yeah, and so if you drew one
- 3:55Speaker 1: for no reason other than you're mad at somebody, that
- 3:59Speaker 1: person could perhaps have an argument if they pulled a
- 4:03Speaker 1: legitimate firearm, yeah, and discharged a round.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Sure, So somebody's carrying a real gun and you point
- 4:10Speaker 3: your burner at him because you've had an argument, you're mad,
- 4:13Speaker 3: and you're you're gonna win the argument by.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Hitting them with pepper spray.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Hitting them with pepper spray, well, I could make the
- 4:19Speaker 3: argument that, okay, little pepper spray is going to disable me.
- 4:23Speaker 3: You know, they advertise that they can incapacitate somebody for
- 4:27Speaker 3: forty minutes, which is probably not true, but they make
- 4:32Speaker 3: that argument. Well, if I'm incapacitated in some fashion or
- 4:35Speaker 3: other and I'm armed, what's stopping you from coming and
- 4:38Speaker 3: taking my gun away from me and using it on me?
- 4:39Speaker 3: So same, you know, same concept. That's why it's lethal force.
- 4:43Speaker 3: If a police officer carrying a taser and somebody tries
- 4:46Speaker 3: to take the taser away from the officer, the officer
- 4:49Speaker 3: that can then transition to a firearm and say he
- 4:51Speaker 3: was fixing to incapacitate me with my taser. Therefore I
- 4:55Speaker 3: shot him. He was trying to take my weapon.
- 4:57Speaker 1: So the answers still were to get your call right
- 5:00Speaker 1: after the break, David, the answer to you is be careful.
- 5:04Speaker 1: No the law No, the law yeah is don't be
- 5:07Speaker 1: the instigator. Yeah, don't be the bully, and we're back.
- 5:19Speaker 1: JD Johnson with me from the Talent Training Group Talentrange
- 5:21Speaker 1: dot Com and Stu is on the phone line. Stu,
- 5:24Speaker 1: good morning, Thank you.
- 5:25Speaker 3: What's your question, JD?
- 5:28Speaker 2: About two years ago I evaded a near home invasion.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Up until that point, I was an AR fifteen guy
- 5:34Speaker 2: for home defense. After that I reconsidered because of over penetration.
- 5:39Speaker 2: My neighbors are relatives of mine next door. I wouldn't
- 5:42Speaker 2: want anything to happen to them if I had to
- 5:44Speaker 2: use a fire arm. I'm now using a twelve gauge
- 5:47Speaker 2: am up hump action with a flashlight. Am I at
- 5:50Speaker 2: any disadvantage compared to an AR fifteen in the home
- 5:54Speaker 2: defense scenario?
- 5:56Speaker 3: A twelve gage pump with a flashlight is exactly what
- 6:00Speaker 3: sleeps under my bed back? Then, I answer your question. No,
- 6:05Speaker 3: you're not, in my opinion, inside the home in close
- 6:08Speaker 3: close quarters. Uh, there is no replacement for a twelve
- 6:13Speaker 3: gage or twenty gage shotgun with buck shot.
- 6:16Speaker 1: What about what about a car being nine millimeter? Okay,
- 6:22Speaker 1: I'm just throws.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Are fine and and over penetration is really not an
- 6:27Speaker 3: issue with the right ammo.
- 6:29Speaker 1: Okay, with ball.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Ammo that you take and take to the range and
- 6:33Speaker 3: shoot at targets with, it's not a great that's not
- 6:36Speaker 3: good because it pokes a little hole and keeps on
- 6:38Speaker 3: going and doesn't do with a with an AR. You know,
- 6:41Speaker 3: if you're using soft point soft point expanding type ammo,
- 6:45Speaker 3: over penetration is really not that big of an issue
- 6:47Speaker 3: as much as people think it is. Uh, nine millimeters
- 6:50Speaker 3: carbans are great. There's still no replacement for a twelve
- 6:54Speaker 3: gage shotgun. It it it does more, it's more effective
- 6:59Speaker 3: than either of these. Ballistically speaking, Stu.
- 7:02Speaker 1: You got any follow up for that?
- 7:05Speaker 2: No, that's perfect, James, Yeah, Christmas, thank you.
- 7:08Speaker 3: Uh, the big merry Christmas.
- 7:10Speaker 1: You have filthy animal.
- 7:12Speaker 3: The uh, you know, the big, the big difference. You
- 7:15Speaker 3: know you have to look at like this when you
- 7:18Speaker 3: fire a twelve gauge double at book, you're launching eight
- 7:22Speaker 3: or nine thirty three caliber pellets, So that's basically nine
- 7:28Speaker 3: millimeter type projectiles, nine millimeters diameter projectiles. You're launching nine
- 7:33Speaker 3: of them at one time, So that's like pulling the
- 7:36Speaker 3: trigger on a nine millimeter nine times.
- 7:39Speaker 1: What kind of spread does that have at say, eight
- 7:42Speaker 1: or nine feet versus twenty feet.
- 7:44Speaker 3: A big difference. I mean close range, you're you're you
- 7:47Speaker 3: have to aim a shotgun at close range, your your pattern,
- 7:51Speaker 3: uh is, its calls not going to be a whole
- 7:53Speaker 3: lot bigger than the diameter of the barrel. So at
- 7:56Speaker 3: close range it's you know, twelve twelve point one whatever
- 8:00Speaker 3: millimeter's twelve point sixty seven or whatever. Twelve gauge is
- 8:05Speaker 3: sixty seven caliber basically the further it gets out at
- 8:09Speaker 3: fifteen yards, so that's what forty five feet. Most houses
- 8:14Speaker 3: don't have much further than a forty five foot shot
- 8:17Speaker 3: anywhere in the house is a direct line. Yeah, your
- 8:21Speaker 3: pattern's going to be fifteen, sixteen, eighteen inches somewhere in there,
- 8:26Speaker 3: depending on the gun and the load. So it's given
- 8:28Speaker 3: you a bigger, you know, bigger think of a think
- 8:34Speaker 3: of a five gallon bucket, diameter at fifteen yards, that's
- 8:38Speaker 3: you probably could put all of them in. All those
- 8:40Speaker 3: pellets are going to land in a five gallon bucket
- 8:42Speaker 3: at fifteen yards.
- 8:44Speaker 1: You mentioned twelve gauge, that's what he mentioned as well,
- 8:46Speaker 1: but you also mentioned twenty. What about four to ten?
- 8:50Speaker 3: Four ten is a different animal. You're you're launching three
- 8:53Speaker 3: triple off buck Most four to ten buck shot just
- 8:57Speaker 3: as effective. Let's recoil. I'm just not a giant fan
- 9:02Speaker 3: of four to ten because the velocity is reduced below
- 9:06Speaker 3: You're getting down velocity wise.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Even short distances.
- 9:10Speaker 3: Yeah, even short distances.
- 9:12Speaker 1: What about the pump action, as you mentioned versus there
- 9:15Speaker 1: are some models out there that are semi automatic.
- 9:19Speaker 3: Some automatics can be problematic unless you find a load
- 9:23Speaker 3: that will reliably work with your semi automatic. There a
- 9:26Speaker 3: lot of them are dependent on the power of the
- 9:29Speaker 3: shell to operate properly. Yeah, pumps don't care pump shot guns.
- 9:34Speaker 3: You're manually working the action of the gun, so it
- 9:39Speaker 3: doesn't matter what load you put in it.
- 9:41Speaker 1: Do you recommend for personal defense, Let's stay on the
- 9:44Speaker 1: twelve gage pump. Do you recommend alternating or using different
- 9:48Speaker 1: loads or the same.
- 9:49Speaker 3: Load all depends on your scenario. Okay, inside the house buckshot,
- 9:54Speaker 3: you know large number four number four bird shot. Maybe
- 10:00Speaker 3: that's that's about as small of a bird shot as
- 10:02Speaker 3: I would go with. It was like a number four.
- 10:05Speaker 3: There's there's also number four buck shot, which gives you
- 10:08Speaker 3: fifty fifty pellets roughly, But what would you recommend a
- 10:12Speaker 3: double alt? Okay, there's some eight pellet reduced recoil tactical
- 10:17Speaker 3: buckshot that Federal and Spear and a couple other companies
- 10:21Speaker 3: make uses reduced power load, one less shot than standard
- 10:29Speaker 3: and it doesn't kick bad and it's very effective.
- 10:33Speaker 1: And we are back with Jade Johnson, co founder of
- 10:36Speaker 1: the Talent Training Group and Talent Outdoors, where he and
- 10:42Speaker 1: Charlie and a cast of characters is putting it very politely.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Did you ever think it would grow like that?
- 10:48Speaker 3: No? No, I missed. I missed this last Saturday show.
- 10:54Speaker 3: I got a last minute something I had to go
- 10:56Speaker 3: do and couldn't be there for the show's first one
- 10:59Speaker 3: I've missed in the history of the show that I
- 11:01Speaker 3: wasn't there about that? Yeah, And everybody's amen, like, well,
- 11:06Speaker 3: you always didn't listen to all the shows, so you
- 11:08Speaker 3: didn't know. It wasn't something bad. I had to grab
- 11:10Speaker 3: my new truck.
- 11:11Speaker 1: Okay, it wasn't like you were you were on time
- 11:13Speaker 1: out or anything. All right, we got a caller here
- 11:16Speaker 1: standing by, and we've got an email question to get to.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Will you're up, what's your question?
- 11:20Speaker 4: Good morning, j D Pression. Thanks for taking my calling.
- 11:23Speaker 4: I wanted to go back to the topic of the
- 11:26Speaker 4: burner the launcher. I do have a legal question. I
- 11:34Speaker 4: have some unfortunate past decisions which makes me a convicted fellon.
- 11:38Speaker 4: And I hear the advertisement stating that yes, you can
- 11:41Speaker 4: carry it, but how does that stand for convicted selling
- 11:44Speaker 4: and their ability to potentially protecting theirselves and their family.
- 11:47Speaker 4: But there's some ornals of that or but it don't
- 11:50Speaker 4: be considered weapon. Thanks Felling.
- 11:52Speaker 3: I would if I were you, I would get a
- 11:55Speaker 3: I have stayed at a holiday in express, but I'm not
- 11:57Speaker 3: a lawyer. I would get a lead opinion. You can
- 12:01Speaker 3: ask the the state attorneys or the ask the state
- 12:06Speaker 3: Attorney's office, ask the Attorney General of the state of
- 12:10Speaker 3: Florida get an opinion on it. It's my understanding that
- 12:13Speaker 3: you are fine carrying it.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I believe so too.
- 12:17Speaker 3: So yeah, in your case, that would be a viable,
- 12:21Speaker 3: somewhat viable option. Since you can't have a gun, that
- 12:26Speaker 3: would be a that would be a viable option for you.
- 12:29Speaker 1: Thank you very much, Jillan, You're welcome. I appreciate it. Well,
- 12:33Speaker 1: let's see here, we've got an email question that came
- 12:35Speaker 1: in here. Roger is writing in back to the twelve
- 12:38Speaker 1: gauge question for home defense. What barrel length?
- 12:42Speaker 3: Well, the maximum legal without a tax stamp is eighteen inches.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Eighteen twenty inches is fine. Eighteen or twenty inch most
- 12:51Speaker 3: of your your miniments. That's the yeah, And that's what
- 12:54Speaker 3: I would recommend. It's easier to move around with it.
- 12:57Speaker 3: It's not you know, a thirty inch long duck hunting
- 13:01Speaker 3: shotgun that you know you can you can move around
- 13:03Speaker 3: with an eighteen or twenty inch barrel gun.
- 13:05Speaker 1: And we've talked about that a lot. That if you're
- 13:07Speaker 1: if you're in your home and you're worried that somebody
- 13:10Speaker 1: is in your home, being very very careful about how
- 13:14Speaker 1: you clear your house with a long gun.
- 13:18Speaker 3: Absolutely, because if you if the gun enters the room
- 13:21Speaker 3: before you do and you haven't cleared the corners of
- 13:24Speaker 3: the threshold on either side of the door. Uh, there
- 13:27Speaker 3: may be a there may be a violent discussion over
- 13:29Speaker 3: ownership of the firearm. At that point, you don't want
- 13:31Speaker 3: to stick the gun out past your cover, is what
- 13:33Speaker 3: I'm saying, where somebody can grab it and control the
- 13:36Speaker 3: business end of it.
- 13:37Speaker 1: We were talking earlier in the program in advance of
- 13:40Speaker 1: our segment here JD and we talked about, you know,
- 13:43Speaker 1: flashlights and gun mounted lights versus having one in your hand.
- 13:48Speaker 1: And obviously, you know with a with a handgun, it
- 13:53Speaker 1: would make sense to have a flashlight in your hand,
- 13:55Speaker 1: perhaps to go around a corner and the look without
- 13:58Speaker 1: putting your your fire out there. What about a shotgun, Well,
- 14:02Speaker 1: how do you handle lighting up an area?
- 14:04Speaker 3: I love a weapon mounted light on a shotgun because
- 14:09Speaker 3: it takes two hands to operate. It takes two hands
- 14:11Speaker 3: to operate the gun properly. With a handgun, it doesn't
- 14:15Speaker 3: take two hands to operate the gun properly. So and
- 14:18Speaker 3: I'm not opposed to weapon mounted lights on a firearm
- 14:21Speaker 3: as long as I have a tactical small flashlight and
- 14:25Speaker 3: I can shoot with a flashlight in one hand and
- 14:27Speaker 3: a handgun and the other the absolutechniques for doing that,
- 14:29Speaker 3: there's several different techniques for doing that, and they all work.
- 14:34Speaker 3: But with a shotgun or a rifle for self defense purposes,
- 14:39Speaker 3: a weapon mounted light is absolutely a necessity in my opinion. JD.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Johnson with me of the Talent Training group again, you
- 14:46Speaker 1: talk about a gift that keeps on giving. Get some training, people,
- 14:51Speaker 1: give someone a gift card for some training and get
- 14:55Speaker 1: out there and learn to be better and safer and
- 14:59Speaker 1: able to protect yourself and your loved ones on that subject.
- 15:04Speaker 1: While we're talking gift giving, which is kind of fun
- 15:06Speaker 1: and maybe a little bit lighthearted, the fact of the
- 15:08Speaker 1: matter is, as we talked in the break, there are
- 15:12Speaker 1: more and more targeted shootings happening at private Christian schools unfortunately. Yes,
- 15:18Speaker 1: And so my question to you, and I wrote down
- 15:20Speaker 1: on my list here of things to ask you Kevlar
- 15:22Speaker 1: for kids question mark.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Yeah, there's some companies that make panels for backpacks that
- 15:30Speaker 3: you can It's a ballistic panel that you can drop
- 15:34Speaker 3: into a into a backpack. They're shaped like a backpack
- 15:37Speaker 3: like most backpacks, and you could basically drop a soft
- 15:42Speaker 3: soft armor panel into a backpack. And you know, over
- 15:47Speaker 3: the summer, I went to New York City with my
- 15:49Speaker 3: family and I grabbed a backpack out of the shop,
- 15:53Speaker 3: dropped a panel in there, so at least I would
- 15:56Speaker 3: have some defense, you know, some some kind of a
- 15:59Speaker 3: defensive shield, if you will, that I could hold up
- 16:01Speaker 3: on the if something was to happen with my family there.
- 16:04Speaker 1: What panel? What one panel? What will it stop?
- 16:10Speaker 3: The panels that the soft panels, the ones that are
- 16:13Speaker 3: flexible and soft and that don't weigh a lot, they'll
- 16:16Speaker 3: stop handgun rounds. I would say that if you I
- 16:20Speaker 3: haven't tested this, it's you know, and I don't know
- 16:23Speaker 3: if you've seen the kids, but by the time kids
- 16:25Speaker 3: get to middle school, they're carrying around these huge backpacks,
- 16:28Speaker 3: the books. A panel with several books in there probably
- 16:33Speaker 3: would stop a five five six round, two twenty three
- 16:36Speaker 3: round out of an.
- 16:38Speaker 1: It at least gives your child a chance there.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Yeah, it's going to slow it down tremendously. You know,
- 16:46Speaker 3: ballistic armor, soft body armor, kevlar, that kind of stuff
- 16:49Speaker 3: not designed to stop rifle rounds. You have to have
- 16:52Speaker 3: something hard, either ceramic or steel, to stop a rifle round.
- 16:56Speaker 3: There's very or soft body armour would be so thick
- 17:00Speaker 3: that it would be unwieled. Cumbers h Yeah, as far
- 17:04Speaker 3: as wearable stuff for kids, I'm sure somebody probably makes
- 17:07Speaker 3: it out there. I don't recommend. It's not uncomfortable. You
- 17:10Speaker 3: don't want you don't want the kid to go to
- 17:12Speaker 3: school every day wearing body armor. But those panels are
- 17:15Speaker 3: are fairly light and fairly resilient. As far as stopping handgun.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Right, and it would be something.
- 17:21Speaker 3: Yeah, it's better than better than like I say all
- 17:23Speaker 3: the time, it's better than a sharp stick. Yeah, you know,
- 17:27Speaker 3: but yeah, it would it would do something. And then
- 17:29Speaker 3: you combine that with some thick history books or something
- 17:32Speaker 3: like that, any any object you know. There in the
- 17:36Speaker 3: gun world, there used to be a people would test
- 17:38Speaker 3: AMMO by taking the big giant phone books. I know
- 17:41Speaker 3: younger folks don't know what a phone book is, but
- 17:43Speaker 3: you and I grew up. If you grew up in
- 17:44Speaker 3: a big area, your phone book was several inches thick.
- 17:47Speaker 3: Yes it was, and say a lot as a representative
- 17:51Speaker 3: of ballistic performance from handguns. People would take phone books,
- 17:55Speaker 3: soak them in water, get them wet, and then stack
- 17:58Speaker 3: them up and see how many phone books your cartridge
- 18:02Speaker 3: would go through or your bullet would go through as
- 18:04Speaker 3: a as a and enough phone books will stop a bullet.
- 18:09Speaker 3: There's a guy on the I saw a guy on
- 18:12Speaker 3: Instagram the other day shooting Plato a big giant blow
- 18:15Speaker 3: of a playto and it, you know, stopped the fifty BMG,
- 18:20Speaker 3: a huge cartridge machine gun, you know, big fifty caliber
- 18:23Speaker 3: machine gun with Plato. Now it took about thirty inches
- 18:28Speaker 3: of plato sure to stop it, but it stopped it.
- 18:31Speaker 3: You know, bullets are not bullets don't like hard objects.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Soft objects slow them down really fast, so you know,
- 18:43Speaker 3: at least you're minimizing the damage if it was to
- 18:46Speaker 3: go all the way through.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Final segment with J. D. Johnson of the Talent Training Group,
- 18:52Speaker 1: and now we're kind of circling into gifts suggestions, and
- 18:55Speaker 1: again not to freak anybody out, but there's a reality
- 18:58Speaker 1: and a kevlar panel can slip into a backpack and
- 19:01Speaker 1: it could make a differences. That's the whole point of
- 19:04Speaker 1: this show, trying to find ways to make a difference. Now,
- 19:06Speaker 1: one way we can make a difference is advise mostly
- 19:09Speaker 1: guys out there, don't buy your wife a gun without
- 19:13Speaker 1: some thought going into this.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Yeah, or just don't buy your wife a gun at all.
- 19:18Speaker 3: Let her pick it out by your wife a gift certificate. Yeah.
- 19:21Speaker 3: I have this discussion across the counter at the gun
- 19:24Speaker 3: store on the regular, just about weekly. Two days ago,
- 19:28Speaker 3: guy comes in, My wife wants a gun. I want
- 19:30Speaker 3: to buy my wife a gun? What about that one?
- 19:32Speaker 3: What about this one? I like, stop, yeah, just stop,
- 19:36Speaker 3: and he kind of looks at it like, yeah, I'm
- 19:38Speaker 3: I'm in the business of selling guns. It's not that
- 19:40Speaker 3: I don't want to sell you a gun. Let your
- 19:42Speaker 3: wife choose it. Take her to the range, rent some
- 19:47Speaker 3: of the guns we have down there, try them out,
- 19:50Speaker 3: Let her make the decision. It is a very and
- 19:53Speaker 3: I've always used this analogy. I wouldn't You don't pick
- 19:56Speaker 3: your wife's shoes or purses. You know, if you do,
- 20:01Speaker 3: you might get lucky, or it might sit in the
- 20:03Speaker 3: closet and collect us because she doesn't like it and
- 20:05Speaker 3: doesn't have the doesn't want to tell you that hurt
- 20:07Speaker 3: your feelings that.
- 20:08Speaker 1: You just notice after five years she's never put them on.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Yeah, So don't don't try to choose that. Just let
- 20:15Speaker 3: her choose and facilitate it.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Equally personal, if not even more personal? Is Holster same
- 20:23Speaker 1: thing right? Gift card yep, Absolutely get people a gift
- 20:27Speaker 1: card for that. What about the things that someone might
- 20:32Speaker 1: want to consider giving as a gift, a red dot
- 20:35Speaker 1: or a shot timer, or a cleaning kit or a
- 20:38Speaker 1: light or whatever, all of those things.
- 20:40Speaker 3: It's all part of owning a gun, being able to
- 20:42Speaker 3: take care of it and clean it, maintain it, which
- 20:44Speaker 3: is not hard to do. We show people, We sit
- 20:47Speaker 3: there at the counter just about every day and show
- 20:50Speaker 3: people how to take care of their firearm. We don't
- 20:53Speaker 3: charge for that. We just do it because you need
- 20:56Speaker 3: to know. Lights, lasers, sights, all of those things are
- 21:04Speaker 3: make good gifts, you know, and they're something that most
- 21:08Speaker 3: people are gonna want.
- 21:09Speaker 1: What about the targets that are out there? There are
- 21:12Speaker 1: paper targets obviously at the range, you have steel targets
- 21:16Speaker 1: available that people can can shoot at the bays that
- 21:19Speaker 1: are set up for that. But I'm hearing about targets
- 21:21Speaker 1: that are like they're made of this composite rubbery material
- 21:25Speaker 1: that the bullet goes through it and disappears.
- 21:30Speaker 3: Most of those we don't allow because most of them
- 21:33Speaker 3: sit on the ground. And you take us this funny
- 21:36Speaker 3: looking ball thing and you throw it out there on
- 21:37Speaker 3: the ground and shoot it. We don't want you shooting
- 21:39Speaker 3: the ground. Yeah, there's too much of a potential of
- 21:41Speaker 3: that bullet hitting the ground and skipping and missing the
- 21:44Speaker 3: big pile of dirt that you're shooting. We want all
- 21:46Speaker 3: the bullets fired on the range to hit into that
- 21:48Speaker 3: big pile of dirt.
- 21:49Speaker 1: What about people that have their own area, their own land,
- 21:52Speaker 1: They've got a big plot of land, They've got their
- 21:54Speaker 1: own little shooting area back there. What are the types
- 21:56Speaker 1: of targets that are becoming Are there any that are
- 21:58Speaker 1: becoming more popular than.
- 22:00Speaker 3: There's not that I know of. Those composite targets will
- 22:03Speaker 3: take a lot of rounds before they before they're unusable.
- 22:06Speaker 3: I've seen some of the some of the new composits there.
- 22:09Speaker 1: But you know where you're hitting.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Uh, if you go up there and examine it, sometimes
- 22:14Speaker 3: you'll see a little tiny you know, it makes a
- 22:16Speaker 3: little small dot on there. Yeah, I mean you can
- 22:20Speaker 3: there there. There's some viable alternatives. Steel is still a
- 22:24Speaker 3: very viable alternative. You just need to buy it. Don't
- 22:26Speaker 3: try to do it yourself. You want the steal our
- 22:30Speaker 3: Steel targets are angled a certain way so that it
- 22:32Speaker 3: deflects the the broken apart bullet down into the ground
- 22:37Speaker 3: you can. If you angle them the wrong way, then
- 22:39Speaker 3: you're creating a launching ramp and you don't know where
- 22:41Speaker 3: that bullet's gonna end up, and that's dangerous.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, Is there anything coming out this season
- 22:49Speaker 1: that you think is interesting.
- 22:51Speaker 3: In the gun world?
- 22:52Speaker 4: Ye?
- 22:53Speaker 3: Not really there, you know, there's there's really I haven't
- 22:56Speaker 3: seen there. There's some newer guns on the market. Smith
- 22:58Speaker 3: and Wesson's made a couple of really you know, new
- 23:00Speaker 3: guns in the in the recent past. The new Bodyguard
- 23:04Speaker 3: three eighty is a very small little gun that holds
- 23:07Speaker 3: twelve rounds of three eighty. That's a very compact, nice
- 23:10Speaker 3: little carry gun. We sell a lot of those. They've
- 23:13Speaker 3: redesigned the shield. It's called a shield X. Now that's
- 23:16Speaker 3: a slimmer grip. You know, there's there's some big stuff
- 23:22Speaker 3: coming from Glock, but it probably won't happen until the
- 23:26Speaker 3: first quarter next year.
- 23:27Speaker 1: Okay. Uh.
- 23:28Speaker 3: The big the big thing right now is suppressers. Uh.
- 23:33Speaker 3: It's it's a because the two hundred dollars tax stamp,
- 23:36Speaker 3: the federal tax stamp, the registration stamp, whatever you want
- 23:39Speaker 3: to call it. The two hundred dollars is going away
- 23:43Speaker 3: January one, So we are currently selling a lot of
- 23:47Speaker 3: suppressors right now and holding them for folks that don't
- 23:49Speaker 3: want to pay the tax stamp. So we're holding on
- 23:51Speaker 3: to them until January gets here to submit the paperwork
- 23:54Speaker 3: because you right now, if you submit the paperwork is
- 23:56Speaker 3: two hundred bucks January second, because the first is the
- 23:59Speaker 3: holiday anywhary, second, the submission doesn't cost you the two
- 24:03Speaker 3: hundred dollars anymore. The process has stayed the same. Yeah,
- 24:07Speaker 3: and there's something to pay attention to Tomorrow Thursday. There
- 24:11Speaker 3: is several big important Second Amendment gun things coming up
- 24:17Speaker 3: from the Supreme Court. It's gonna be making some decisions
- 24:19Speaker 3: on some big gun stuff, the magazine capacity states that
- 24:22Speaker 3: have magazine capacity bands and semi auto weapon bands and
- 24:27Speaker 3: stuff like that. That stuff's finally made it. Hopefully we'll
- 24:31Speaker 3: be on their docket in the very near future to
- 24:33Speaker 3: make a final decision on Tomorrow's when they go and
- 24:36Speaker 3: examine it and see if they want to look at
- 24:37Speaker 3: the case.
- 24:38Speaker 1: What's your confidence level if they take the case that
- 24:40Speaker 1: they'll rule properly.
- 24:43Speaker 3: I think Clarence Thomas is gonna probably do There is
- 24:47Speaker 3: probably gonna make the docket and they're probably gonna rule
- 24:50Speaker 3: in the favor of gun ownership and against the states.
- 24:54Speaker 3: They've already ruled against California on the ten round magazine
- 24:57Speaker 3: band send it back to the litwer court. They vacated it,
- 24:59Speaker 3: sent it act.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Do you think there's enough support in the whole court
- 25:02Speaker 1: for that.
- 25:03Speaker 3: I think they only need five Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Yeah.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Justice Roberts isn't reliable to me.
- 25:08Speaker 3: He's not, but he I think he's I don't see
- 25:13Speaker 3: how they can rule against it. Just put it that
- 25:15Speaker 3: way and not in it to be a constitutional decision.
- 25:17Speaker 3: We'll see.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Hopefully it's six'.
- 25:20Speaker 3: Three, well, yeah the uh, so the the, court The
- 25:24Speaker 3: california law basically holds that the magazines for firearms are
- 25:30Speaker 3: not protected under The Second, amendment as if they're not
- 25:33Speaker 3: a part of the. Firearm, well it is an integral
- 25:37Speaker 3: part of the fire and doesn't work without. It Uh,
- 25:41Speaker 3: SO i can't see logically how they would, say, uh you,
- 25:46Speaker 3: know anything other than, yeah you're, Wrong. California they. Were
- 25:48Speaker 3: they were Told california they're wrong once And, CALIFORNIA i,
- 25:53Speaker 3: mean here we are. Again so hopefully they'll hold their
- 25:55Speaker 3: feet to the fire and let's just be reasonable about.
- 25:58Speaker 3: Things you, know if somebody's gonna do something bad with the,
- 26:02Speaker 3: gun they're gonna do something bad with the. Gun that's just.
- 26:04Speaker 3: Right they're gonna find a way to get. It they're
- 26:06Speaker 3: gonna do something.
- 26:07Speaker 1: Bad thanks for coming in my. Pleasure Merry, Christmas Mery.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Christmas Happy New.
- 26:11Speaker 3: Year we'll be you next, Year, Yes SIR. J.
