- 0:28Speaker 1: Jets have their coach and it's the guy that the
- 0:33Speaker 1: Saints we're targeting, Aaron Glenn. It is official the new
- 0:38Speaker 1: head coach of the Jets. And so when you look
- 0:43Speaker 1: at the three hires that have now been made, Mike
- 0:46Speaker 1: Vrabel to the Patriots was their first choice. Quite honestly,
- 0:49Speaker 1: it's the reason they fired Girodmeyo the day Gerrodmeyo got fired.
- 0:53Speaker 1: So there's only two reasons has happened. One he did
- 0:56Speaker 1: something to Farias or two they know like they are
- 1:00Speaker 1: have his replacement and a guy they wanted obviously was verb.
- 1:04Speaker 1: The Saints never even entertained Ben Johnson, never even there
- 1:10Speaker 1: were never even odds for the Saints to hire Ben Johnson,
- 1:13Speaker 1: whom everybody wanted. Why because he was going to the
- 1:16Speaker 1: Bears and he was the Bear's first choice and they
- 1:19Speaker 1: got it. The Saints first choice Zarreon Glenn, but unfortunately
- 1:24Speaker 1: for the Saints, he was also the Jets first choice.
- 1:26Speaker 1: And the thing we talked about from jump with the
- 1:29Speaker 1: Saints coaching search is, I, muse, do you remember this?
- 1:33Speaker 1: I had muse to do this exercise where like, I,
- 1:37Speaker 1: what did we do? Like I was a coaching candidate that.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah, it was like you were. Ben Johnson was the thing.
- 1:41Speaker 3: I was the agent and we went through the at
- 1:44Speaker 3: that point, I think there was only two jobs open.
- 1:46Speaker 3: We looked at the other ones that could oh yeah right,
- 1:48Speaker 3: like the Jags.
- 1:49Speaker 2: And the Cowboys. Was on the list and be on
- 1:53Speaker 2: that list at that time.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah, So we went through to determine the attractiveness of
- 1:59Speaker 1: the openings and where we landed was the Saints job
- 2:04Speaker 1: was the least attractive of all the openings. You have
- 2:07Speaker 1: no franchise quarterback, you have an aging, expensive roster. You're
- 2:12Speaker 1: at the time there were seventy million dollars over the
- 2:15Speaker 1: cap space. They were like sixty million over more than
- 2:19Speaker 1: the next closest team that was over, which was I
- 2:21Speaker 1: think Cleveland. Like you, you are the worst situation of
- 2:25Speaker 1: all the open jobs, like you could say the Raiders,
- 2:28Speaker 1: But the Raiders have a better cap situation, they got
- 2:31Speaker 1: a better draft, pick a better situation when you're checking
- 2:35Speaker 1: all those boxes. So naturally, when coaches that are in
- 2:41Speaker 1: demand have options, they're gonna pick the better option. And
- 2:46Speaker 1: that ain't you, which is why you've never even got
- 2:49Speaker 1: a well, you were never even entertained in the Ben
- 2:53Speaker 1: Johnson conversation and like why Aaron Glenn is now the
- 2:57Speaker 1: coach of the Jets' You're not attractive? So where do
- 3:03Speaker 1: you go from here? What we know is what the
- 3:07Speaker 1: Saints are setting up now. I would highly recommend you
- 3:10Speaker 1: go follow this all at Louisiana sports dot net. Ross
- 3:13Speaker 1: Jackson's doing an awesome job covering every bit of this
- 3:16Speaker 1: story and keeping everyone up to date throughout. But the
- 3:19Speaker 1: Saints have now scheduled in person interviews with Mike Kafka
- 3:26Speaker 1: of the Giants, Anthony Weaver of the Dolphins, and reports
- 3:31Speaker 1: are that the Saints are going to interview Mike McCarthy
- 3:37Speaker 1: in person next week if if the Saints decide they
- 3:50Speaker 1: want to hire Mike McCarthy. I'm gonna be okay with that.
- 3:55Speaker 1: I know a lot of people are going to recoil,
- 3:56Speaker 1: and we've talked about this a little bit here. My
- 4:00Speaker 1: point with McCarthy is, I think that the negativity around
- 4:06Speaker 1: Mike McCarthy in large part is a fan echo chamber,
- 4:12Speaker 1: very high profile job in Dallas. There's obviously Cowboys fatigue
- 4:18Speaker 1: because of the first take a focation of the world
- 4:22Speaker 1: where it's Cowboys Jets all the time, Lebron Cowboys, Jets.
- 4:26Speaker 1: What if Lebron played for the Cowboys or the Jets, like,
- 4:29Speaker 1: blow up the world? I get it. But this is
- 4:33Speaker 1: a guy that's won more than one hundred games as
- 4:35Speaker 1: a head coach. He's made the playoffs eleven times, He's
- 4:37Speaker 1: won a Super Bowl. You look at Michaeh. Parsons, who
- 4:40Speaker 1: said he was quote devastated when McCarthy wasn't retained. Matt Flynn,
- 4:45Speaker 1: who played for McCarthy in Green Bay, raved about Mike
- 4:48Speaker 1: McCarthy like his resume is super comparable to Sean Payton's.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Yet we hold Sean Payton in high esteem. In regard
- 4:57Speaker 1: we collectively and we papooh McCarthy, who won twelve games
- 5:00Speaker 1: each of the three years before this year when Dak
- 5:02Speaker 1: got hurt. I'm I think maybe the thing with McCarthy
- 5:05Speaker 1: is there's a feeling that we know what the ceiling
- 5:08Speaker 1: is there, and if you go higher, say a Joe Brady,
- 5:12Speaker 1: the unknown could be, the kaboom could be, but you
- 5:15Speaker 1: could have the higher ceiling, lower floor type situation, whereas
- 5:19Speaker 1: McCarthy feels kind of like Derek Carr higher floor, lower ceiling.
- 5:23Speaker 1: That maybe that's a fair way to say it. But
- 5:26Speaker 1: what I will say about McCarthy, if this is the
- 5:29Speaker 1: direction the Saints think they want to go, the New
- 5:33Speaker 1: Orleans Saints would be doing themselves a massive, massive disservice
- 5:39Speaker 1: if they hire Mike McCarthy before interviewing Joe Brady Cliff Kingsbury.
- 5:48Speaker 1: They're not going to interview those guys in person until
- 5:50Speaker 1: their seasons are over. And the truth is Mike McCarthy
- 5:55Speaker 1: ain't being hired anywhere else. All the reports are there
- 5:59Speaker 1: were twoot when Karthy got let go in Dallas. There
- 6:01Speaker 1: are two teams interested, the Saints and the Bears. Well,
- 6:04Speaker 1: the Bears have their coach, Bears have their coach, So
- 6:09Speaker 1: if the Bears have their guy and ain't nobody else
- 6:13Speaker 1: lining up to hire Mike McCarthy. There was no reason
- 6:17Speaker 1: to rush to this decision. Go through your process. Interview
- 6:22Speaker 1: Mike Kafka, Interview Anthony Weaver, see what happens this weekend
- 6:28Speaker 1: with the Bills and the Commanders, to see if you can,
- 6:31Speaker 1: then interview Brady and Kingsbury, gather all the information possible,
- 6:36Speaker 1: and then make your decision. The singular best example of
- 6:40Speaker 1: this conversation is Mike Tomlin. Mike Tomlin got an interview
- 6:45Speaker 1: because of the Steelers Rooney rule, which is now league wide.
- 6:49Speaker 1: But Tomlin was a defensive coordinator. He got an interview,
- 6:52Speaker 1: blew everyone away, got the job, and now he's been
- 6:55Speaker 1: one of the greatest and most consistent coaches in the NFL.
- 6:59Speaker 1: Longest tenured to long side John Harbaugh Baltimore won a
- 7:02Speaker 1: Super Bowl. He's amazing and you never would have known
- 7:08Speaker 1: that except for they went through the interview process. So
- 7:12Speaker 1: go through the interview process. There's no reason to rush
- 7:15Speaker 1: Mike McCarthy a Mike McCarthy decision. You know where he is.
- 7:20Speaker 1: You got his number, he's waiting on your call. Boo.
- 7:22Speaker 1: That's it. Just just relax like prom's coming up, there's
- 7:29Speaker 1: someone you'd really like to ask, but you know you
- 7:31Speaker 1: got your your backup plan. You're playing to be right,
- 7:33Speaker 1: just sitting over there waiting for you to call. As
- 7:36Speaker 1: rude as that may sound, it's true. Like you got
- 7:38Speaker 1: you got your yes over here, you got your automatic
- 7:40Speaker 1: yes sitting over here. But you want to shoot your
- 7:42Speaker 1: shot over here, Shoot your shot and see how it goes.
- 7:45Speaker 1: McCarthy ain't going nowhere to be thrilled to be your coach.
- 7:49Speaker 1: So wait it out and make sure you do your
- 7:52Speaker 1: due diligence for what it's worth. As we look around,
- 7:57Speaker 1: there's been a lot of reaction to the Aaron Glenn
- 8:00Speaker 1: News and what the the fallout might may be. So,
- 8:04Speaker 1: for example, Jake Asman is a host on eight eighty
- 8:07Speaker 1: ESPN in New York.
- 8:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't, I don't. I don't think that's how
- 8:14Speaker 2: you say.
- 8:14Speaker 1: His last name says it right here on the sheet.
- 8:17Speaker 1: Now he wrote the sheet.
- 8:18Speaker 2: I did I think it's Osman.
- 8:20Speaker 1: It says Jake ass Man, well, host eight eighty ESPN,
- 8:23Speaker 1: New York. No, that's what it says. Twenty one seconds
- 8:26Speaker 1: as Man one on the hallway. Does that say as
- 8:29Speaker 1: Man won? Or is that's a as Man one that
- 8:31Speaker 1: says asmin one, thank you? Is it as Man? You
- 8:36Speaker 1: wrote the sheet?
- 8:37Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 8:37Speaker 1: You hanging me out to dry? Now? No?
- 8:39Speaker 2: I just I don't. I don't think it's as Man.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Jake Asman, host eight eighty ESPN New York, play the clip.
- 8:45Speaker 4: I like Aaron Glenn, but there's this perception that he
- 8:48Speaker 4: is like the slam dunk choice for the Jets, And
- 8:51Speaker 4: I don't really understand why what makes Aaron Glenn such
- 8:54Speaker 4: a slam down? The Jets are going to hire another
- 8:57Speaker 4: first time, defensive minded coach with no previous coaching experience, Like,
- 9:01Speaker 4: I don't understand. They just did this with Robert Seller,
- 9:04Speaker 4: and everything we said about Robert Salo, we're now saying
- 9:06Speaker 4: about Aaron Glenn.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Oh my god, are you too messing with me? What
- 9:09Speaker 1: do you mean you put asked Jake Assman on the
- 9:13Speaker 1: document And then Paulie puts that picture on the screen,
- 9:17Speaker 1: put up, put it back here, Paully, look at I mean,
- 9:21Speaker 1: this guy's name is Jake Assman. Did y'all do did
- 9:24Speaker 1: you do this on AI? Paul Is this AI? Is
- 9:26Speaker 1: this a real human? That's a real human? I don't
- 9:31Speaker 1: I feel like you guys took a couple of days
- 9:33Speaker 1: off and went to went to the looney bin, and
- 9:35Speaker 1: you came out here trying to mess with me.
- 9:38Speaker 4: What's wrong?
- 9:40Speaker 1: This is Jake Assman from eight to eighty in New York.
- 9:43Speaker 1: Is eight eighty in New York even an actual thing.
- 9:45Speaker 2: It's a radio stations pian affiliate. It is. I don't
- 9:50Speaker 2: understand your your your gripe with him. I mean he's a.
- 9:56Speaker 1: He looks like if Doug the cartoon was a ginger.
- 9:59Speaker 1: That's what he looks like. Okay, I mean tell me
- 10:04Speaker 1: I'm wrong. And his name is as Man.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Again, we don't know that for sure.
- 10:09Speaker 1: We know that in radio world people have fake names
- 10:12Speaker 1: all the time. When you got a bad name, you
- 10:14Speaker 1: come up with a fake name. Jimmy Brooks one hundred
- 10:18Speaker 1: point seven, the Tiger, his name is Jimmy Laverne. He
- 10:21Speaker 1: goes by Jimmy Brooks. Scotty Mack, Cecil Carwile goes by
- 10:25Speaker 1: Scotty Mack.
- 10:26Speaker 2: That's much better, you know what I mean.
- 10:29Speaker 1: Like it happens all the time.
- 10:31Speaker 3: So you think this guy changed his name to Osman
- 10:34Speaker 3: or our ass Man as you like to say, No,
- 10:36Speaker 3: I think that's you think that's his name name.
- 10:38Speaker 1: Why would you change your name to that? I'm saying,
- 10:42Speaker 1: if that's your name, you call yourself like Jake Jacobs
- 10:49Speaker 1: some alliteration.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Sure, Wow, he embraces it. I mean, go for it.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Man, he embraces what his last name? What's his last name?
- 11:05Speaker 2: Osmond? Asmond?
- 11:07Speaker 1: I'm sorry that that that is an a you're trying
- 11:12Speaker 1: to say, like it's Donnie Osmond, which is not what
- 11:15Speaker 1: you wrote. That's that is?
- 11:18Speaker 2: This would be ozma, not mon, m A N.
- 11:21Speaker 1: How do you say m A N? Muse man? Thank you?
- 11:23Speaker 3: But wait, you know this as well as anybody, Matt.
- 11:25Speaker 3: When you put things together with other letters and make
- 11:27Speaker 3: you can change a pronunciation of words like as man.
- 11:32Speaker 3: Potentially I don't even know what he just talked about.
- 11:35Speaker 3: He's oh, he was saying Glenn is a retread of
- 11:37Speaker 3: Robert soft. We like this segment just got completely derailed.
- 11:42Speaker 3: Not even mad at it. My only point is simply this.
- 11:48Speaker 1: You didn't get your number one choice because you're not
- 11:50Speaker 1: a desirable job. The guy who might be at the
- 11:53Speaker 1: top of your list now is going to be available
- 11:55Speaker 1: whenever you want him, So don't rush this. Do all
- 11:59Speaker 1: of your interviews and hire the best person and if
- 12:02Speaker 1: the best person is Mike McCarthy, okay, but he might
- 12:06Speaker 1: not be, so don't rush it. And oh, by the way,
- 12:08Speaker 1: if you missed it. While we were out, Alvin Kamara
- 12:11Speaker 1: went on Twitter and declared his choice for the Saints
- 12:16Speaker 1: head coaching job, and he said, my vote for head coach,
- 12:21Speaker 1: but he doesn't get a vote because this is not
- 12:23Speaker 1: an NFL ocracy, it's an NFL tatorship. I my vote
- 12:29Speaker 1: for head coach Ryan with Fizzy telling you he Alvin
- 12:33Speaker 1: Kamara wants the Saints to hire Fair and Fizzy or
- 12:40Speaker 1: Darren Rizzy. And I'll to be perfectly honest with you,
- 12:46Speaker 1: I am leaning more toward my preference being without an
- 12:52Speaker 1: obvious choice. Go for a one year stopgap like the
- 12:57Speaker 1: Raiders just did. You want to really embrace the rebuild.
- 13:02Speaker 1: Retain Rizzy for one year, Let all these old veteran
- 13:06Speaker 1: contracts start to purge. Get like, go into the seller,
- 13:12Speaker 1: get the get your cap closer to in order secure
- 13:16Speaker 1: yourself a top five pick. And next year, when you
- 13:20Speaker 1: have a chance to draft arch Manning or Garrett and
- 13:22Speaker 1: Osmeyer one of the quarterbacks in next year's draft class,
- 13:25Speaker 1: which looks like it's going to be a really good
- 13:26Speaker 1: draft class. Then you bring in your actual number one choice,
- 13:31Speaker 1: when you have a much more attractive situation offer not
- 13:35Speaker 1: opposed to it. You got options. What you don't want
- 13:38Speaker 1: to do is rush to the podium. The guy that's
- 13:42Speaker 1: going to be there whenever you're whenever, whenever you call,
- 13:45Speaker 1: he is sitting by the phone waiting. So take your
- 13:47Speaker 1: time and do it right.
