Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy just saved 306 acres as “The Ridge” nature preserve—once destined for 1,000 homes—using $11M from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund. This vital land protects 64 wetlands that filter water for tens of thousands, shelters wildlife including a bald eagle nest, and connects to other natural areas. To balance community needs, they’ll build 30 affordable housing units on a smaller, already-disturbed portion.
