Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The Greens want to lead the next government.
- 0:02Speaker 2: We're not just here to lead the opposition.
- 0:06Speaker 1: We are here because we want to.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Lead the least government.
- 0:11Speaker 1: This is from their event at the weekend. Co lead
- 0:14Speaker 1: Chloe's Warbrick admits they've quote got work to do with
- 0:17Speaker 1: Poland just under ten percent and labor in the early thirties,
- 0:21Speaker 1: So how's this going to work? Cassin Dale Hunt is
- 0:24Speaker 1: a former Green Party and p joins me this morning. Catherine,
- 0:26Speaker 1: good morning, what in now? How are you?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Yeah? Well, I'm good. You're trying to leave the next government.
- 0:36Speaker 1: Do you think that's a little ambitious of them?
- 0:39Speaker 2: I think politicians of smaller parties are required to talk
- 0:44Speaker 2: like this. I also think there is a really strong
- 0:47Speaker 2: need in this country this time to stop the incredible
- 0:50Speaker 2: damage being done to communities and to the environment by
- 0:53Speaker 2: the current government, and so leadership is required, and I
- 0:57Speaker 2: think that the Greens and Party Marty are going to
- 1:01Speaker 2: need to be strong in order to push labor out
- 1:05Speaker 2: of the center, to actually do some very strong, brave
- 1:09Speaker 2: and authentic work to get rid of this government and
- 1:13Speaker 2: actually make a country that is it looks after its
- 1:16Speaker 2: people and environment again. So you know, go for it.
- 1:19Speaker 2: But you've got to go for it realistically by building
- 1:22Speaker 2: relationships with the other small party on the left and
- 1:27Speaker 2: making sure that there is a realistic and brave approach
- 1:32Speaker 2: right now because people are looking for it.
- 1:34Speaker 1: So you reckon they need to better integrate themselves with
- 1:38Speaker 1: to party Maori and increase them and increase the bargaining
- 1:42Speaker 1: gun problem.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I think that those parties have to tivity policies in common.
- 1:47Speaker 2: I think they both care about the inequality gap. I
- 1:50Speaker 2: think they both care about the state of the environment,
- 1:53Speaker 2: so I think that they have to You know, parties
- 1:55Speaker 2: have to compete for the vote in the current system,
- 1:58Speaker 2: but there is also a really strong need for both
- 2:00Speaker 2: those parties to build their vote so that they can
- 2:05Speaker 2: negotiate strongly with labor so that we can have some
- 2:08Speaker 2: genuine procressor policy. I mean, for example, the Greens have
- 2:11Speaker 2: got a very decent tax policy. Labor need to come
- 2:14Speaker 2: up with some really strong policy.
- 2:16Speaker 1: It's strong, it's as strong, it's an out there policy.
- 2:19Speaker 1: I don't know if it's good.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Well your politics that I think there's the care of
- 2:24Speaker 2: people through good taxes and.
- 2:26Speaker 1: What would be your for the Greens going into this,
- 2:29Speaker 1: What is the bottom line, what's the one area that
- 2:33Speaker 1: they should not compromise on.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I don't really think like that, Ryan, but I think
- 2:39Speaker 2: if you're going to talk about it, these two bottom lines.
- 2:42Speaker 2: One is we have to do something about the growth
- 2:45Speaker 2: inequality that this government is entrenching, and we have to
- 2:48Speaker 2: do in all kinds of fronts. And we also have
- 2:50Speaker 2: to protect our environments for future generations. And those are
- 2:54Speaker 2: two things that absolutely as well as protected tededity or
- 2:58Speaker 2: white technique. There's a terrible attack right now on Marty
- 3:01Speaker 2: by this government and on THDT. So those are three
- 3:04Speaker 2: things they have to be done. They can be done,
- 3:08Speaker 2: but you actually have to be brave to do them
- 3:10Speaker 2: and show some leadership.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Catherine, appreciate your time this morning. Captain Dalla Hunting, former
- 3:14Speaker 1: Green Party MP.
