Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Welcome to film Study. I'm Canis Parker.
- 0:02Speaker 2: I am so excited to sit down with this rookie
- 0:07Speaker 2: who everyone knew was going to be a star in
- 0:10Speaker 2: the WNBA, the number three pick in the draft. Washington
- 0:15Speaker 2: Mystics hails from the Notre Dame Irish Sonya cetron Man.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Thanks thanks for sitting down and being a part of
- 0:24Speaker 2: film study.
- 0:25Speaker 3: Yeah, of course, thank you for having me.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Of course.
- 0:27Speaker 2: All right, so give us the secret. You're you're kind
- 0:29Speaker 2: of like got your rookie year underway. Can you tell
- 0:33Speaker 2: us what you've learned, what surprised you, like, what has
- 0:36Speaker 2: your adjustment from college in those short few weeks into
- 0:40Speaker 2: training camp and now into the first part of the season.
- 0:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think it's been good.
- 0:45Speaker 4: I was definitely really nervous coming into this season, just
- 0:48Speaker 4: I mean, everybody tells you kind of what to expect,
- 0:51Speaker 4: but you know, you never know how your game is
- 0:54Speaker 4: going to translate or how you're going to do. So
- 0:57Speaker 4: it's been going pretty well, and I think I have
- 0:58Speaker 4: my coaches and my teammates to thank for that, just
- 1:02Speaker 4: because I think I'm in a unique situation where the
- 1:05Speaker 4: rookies on this team get a lot of opportunity. And
- 1:08Speaker 4: while that can be like kind of nerve wracking, I
- 1:10Speaker 4: think again, the coaches and our teammates have just been
- 1:13Speaker 4: empowering us to just feel confident in just not being scared,
- 1:18Speaker 4: you know, like knowing that we're going to make a
- 1:19Speaker 4: ton of mistakes. There's a lot of room to grow,
- 1:23Speaker 4: but not being scared and just I mean playing through
- 1:26Speaker 4: the mistakes, just playing hard. And again it's just credit
- 1:30Speaker 4: to our coaches and our team for disbelieving on us
- 1:32Speaker 4: and giving us this opportunity.
- 1:33Speaker 3: So it's been going well.
- 1:35Speaker 2: Well, you and Kiki are proving that you guys have
- 1:38Speaker 2: a dynamic duo in the making. I got to read
- 1:40Speaker 2: off a couple of these stats because you're being a
- 1:42Speaker 2: little humble and I like that.
- 1:44Speaker 1: But we're gonna give you your flowers.
- 1:46Speaker 2: First rookie the WNBA to reach one hundred points this
- 1:48Speaker 2: season in seven games, Fastest Mystics rookie to reach one
- 1:52Speaker 2: hundred career points since Stacey Dale's in two thousand and two.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Were you born in two thousand and two?
- 1:58Speaker 3: You were two thousand?
- 1:58Speaker 1: Were born?
- 1:59Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 2:00Speaker 2: Current stats, you're averaging thirteen point seven points per game,
- 2:03Speaker 2: four point four rebounds per game, and two point two
- 2:06Speaker 2: assists per game, So you're a stat suffer.
- 2:10Speaker 1: We saw that at you know, at Notre Dame.
- 2:13Speaker 3: A little bit.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Obviously, you played with a tremendous backcourt in Olivia Miles
- 2:17Speaker 2: and Hannah Hidalgo, So I don't know if you were
- 2:19Speaker 2: able to showcase this much of your game. But what
- 2:23Speaker 2: do you think the welcome to the WBA moment has
- 2:26Speaker 2: been for you in this short season.
- 2:30Speaker 4: I think everybody knows it's definitely. I guess it was
- 2:34Speaker 4: a pretty my preseason game, so before the season even started.
- 2:39Speaker 4: But the screen by BG, I think I think I'll
- 2:43Speaker 4: remember that forever, like ten years from now, if somebody
- 2:46Speaker 4: asked me what my moment was, it's this moment is
- 2:49Speaker 4: always gonna stick out to me. But yeah, definitely the
- 2:52Speaker 4: hardest screen I ever got hit by. But I tell
- 2:54Speaker 4: BG that it taught me a valuable lesson, Like when
- 2:57Speaker 4: I'm pressuring the ball now, like up the court, I
- 3:01Speaker 4: check my back now. So I would have rather learned
- 3:03Speaker 4: it before the season started than now. So you know,
- 3:07Speaker 4: just gotta look at the positives.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Yeah, you definitely have to keep your head on a swivel.
- 3:12Speaker 2: And I love the teammate you are because you didn't
- 3:15Speaker 2: yell at anybody for not calling the screen. You took
- 3:18Speaker 2: it on yourself. So yeah, I chuckled because I kind
- 3:21Speaker 2: of knew that that was going to be. You're welcome,
- 3:24Speaker 2: all right, So let's get let's get to the place.
- 3:27Speaker 2: So the thing I love about your game is that
- 3:29Speaker 2: you do things that are kind of like a vet,
- 3:33Speaker 2: Like the subtleties that.
- 3:35Speaker 1: You do really unlock what you're trying to do.
- 3:39Speaker 2: And so obviously on the defensive end, I think it's
- 3:41Speaker 2: an adjustment adjusting to the pick and roll, to the
- 3:44Speaker 2: defensive three seconds, all that stuff. But obviously being a
- 3:48Speaker 2: young team, mystics, you guys have some vets.
- 3:50Speaker 1: You guys look pretty good on the defensive end for
- 3:53Speaker 1: a young teams.
- 3:53Speaker 2: You're smiling, but a little bit surprised how how quickly
- 3:59Speaker 2: you guys adjusted on that end.
- 4:01Speaker 4: Not really, I think we like as a team, we
- 4:03Speaker 4: always had high helpes and our coach really, I mean
- 4:06Speaker 4: all of our coaches like really harp on defense, like
- 4:09Speaker 4: we can't even get to offense if we don't get
- 4:11Speaker 4: a stop first.
- 4:12Speaker 3: So that was.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Kind of like a big point of emphasis all through
- 4:14Speaker 4: training camp, and it's something that we work really hard on.
- 4:17Speaker 4: So I'm just happy that, like it's it's showing at
- 4:19Speaker 4: least a little bit.
- 4:21Speaker 2: All right, let's play this play Coming off the screen,
- 4:24Speaker 2: there's Rina Maybrey. You come across and get a help
- 4:29Speaker 2: side block heavy draw to dish this right here, to
- 4:38Speaker 2: me is not a rookie, So you you, you little
- 4:42Speaker 2: you a little late.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell. I'm gonna tell you're covering some grounds.
- 4:45Speaker 2: So I'm gonna give you you're a little bit late. But
- 4:48Speaker 2: your ability to understand that she's split in this to
- 4:51Speaker 2: get over into to block this shot without fouling and
- 4:56Speaker 2: then take it coast to coast. The big thing transition
- 5:00Speaker 2: is drawing too. What do you try to do? What
- 5:02Speaker 2: do you see when you're pushing tempo?
- 5:05Speaker 4: Our team really emphasizes pushing but not forcing. So I think, yeah,
- 5:10Speaker 4: I wanted to push the floor the ball up the
- 5:12Speaker 4: floor because I knew we had numbers. But I saw
- 5:15Speaker 4: Kiki running obviously she's a great rim runner, but they
- 5:19Speaker 4: covered that and then I had I kind of had
- 5:22Speaker 4: my shot if I wanted it, but I knew that
- 5:24Speaker 4: Steph was trailing, and Steph is an amazing three point shooter.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Shout out to Stephanie won a championship with her in Chicago.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Yeah, she's amazing. So I mean, especially that trail three
- 5:36Speaker 4: for her is money. So I want to share the
- 5:38Speaker 4: ball and she made it, so I was happy.
- 5:41Speaker 1: All right, let's get to the next play.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I had Kiki on early in the year and I said,
- 5:48Speaker 2: the thing that you were going to make your bread
- 5:49Speaker 2: and butter off of is that pocket pass. If you
- 5:52Speaker 2: look at Asia Wilson, you look at Brianna Stewart, you
- 5:54Speaker 2: look at a piece of Collier in that four position,
- 5:57Speaker 2: that pocket pass.
- 5:58Speaker 1: I mean shoot NBA as well.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Look at Miles Turner in the finals, you look at Hartenstein, Like,
- 6:04Speaker 2: it's all off the pocket pass. That's how you beat
- 6:06Speaker 2: the defense. So this is one of my favorite plays
- 6:11Speaker 2: because it's it's you know, as a post player, you
- 6:13Speaker 2: practice it, but you have to have people that can
- 6:15Speaker 2: get you the ball. And so this downscreen action dribble
- 6:20Speaker 2: hand off, it's pocket ish right there with the back cut.
- 6:25Speaker 2: But like, I think, the thing right here that I
- 6:27Speaker 2: love is your ability to stay under control. You had
- 6:31Speaker 2: you got screens at Notre Dame, but I think you're
- 6:34Speaker 2: coming off a lot more action with the ball in
- 6:36Speaker 2: your hands. Not just to catch and shoot, but actually
- 6:39Speaker 2: to put the ball on the floor. So how has
- 6:41Speaker 2: that adjustment been?
- 6:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's been good.
- 6:44Speaker 4: I think I definitely have a lot of room for
- 6:46Speaker 4: improvement on just reading more. Like I tend to pick
- 6:50Speaker 4: up the dribble when I don't have anything right away,
- 6:52Speaker 4: and that's definitely something I'm working on where if I
- 6:55Speaker 4: don't have it, it's okay, like I can pull it
- 6:57Speaker 4: as long as I keep.
- 6:58Speaker 3: My dribble, it's still alive.
- 7:00Speaker 4: It's definitely like I mean, once I pick it up,
- 7:02Speaker 4: the defenders all over me and it creates nothing. And
- 7:05Speaker 4: I kind of did that here, which is why I
- 7:07Speaker 4: was really happy that I worked out because I picked
- 7:10Speaker 4: it up right away thinking like I saw Asia coming
- 7:15Speaker 4: to contest me. And I told Kiki after this it
- 7:18Speaker 4: was funny because I look at her, and I don't
- 7:20Speaker 4: think you can see it in this, but I looked
- 7:21Speaker 4: at her and gave her like a face like like
- 7:23Speaker 4: what are you doing? Like why aren't you rolling? Because
- 7:28Speaker 4: and she said that she didn't really do a lot
- 7:29Speaker 4: of dhos. It's kind of situation. So I told her, like,
- 7:34Speaker 4: if you're doing a DHO with me and I'm coming
- 7:37Speaker 4: off and my defender's chasing and you see your post
- 7:40Speaker 4: players step up. That's a role right away because if
- 7:43Speaker 4: they have to contest my shot, then she got their ave.
- 7:47Speaker 3: Yeah, she she did.
- 7:49Speaker 4: I like yelled at her through my eyes and that's
- 7:51Speaker 4: why she ended up back dooring and we got that.
- 7:54Speaker 4: But yeah, it's it's been really fun like learning how
- 7:58Speaker 4: to play with her and just in chemistry. But yeah,
- 8:02Speaker 4: I mean again, I was happy I got that because
- 8:04Speaker 4: I picked up my trip so well.
- 8:05Speaker 2: You guys have a lot of chemistry thus far, and
- 8:09Speaker 2: a lot of it has to do with her athletic
- 8:10Speaker 2: ability in cutting, yes, and your vision and so I know,
- 8:14Speaker 2: I played alongside an amazing athlete in Mekka Gumaky, and
- 8:20Speaker 2: our high low was so much fun because sometimes I
- 8:24Speaker 2: would just throw the ball to see where she could
- 8:26Speaker 2: go get it. And it seems like for you you're
- 8:30Speaker 2: able to take a lot of those chances because you
- 8:31Speaker 2: have Kiki who is extremely.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Athletic and can go up and get the ball.
- 8:35Speaker 2: So it's a nice cut against the Vegas defense, y'all
- 8:38Speaker 2: almost had this game.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I watched this came down to the wire.
- 8:43Speaker 2: You guys almost were able to pull that out against
- 8:46Speaker 2: the aces, but right here, I would love to kind
- 8:50Speaker 2: of talk about this because a lot of it is
- 8:51Speaker 2: included in the high low, and it is included in
- 8:55Speaker 2: you dishing to Kiki. So we see this like weak
- 8:59Speaker 2: side screen right here with Brittany Sykes coming off Atlanta
- 9:03Speaker 2: kind of doesn't really force sideline.
- 9:06Speaker 1: They kind of let you come off to the middle.
- 9:08Speaker 2: And so you guys are doing a great job of
- 9:10Speaker 2: staying spaced on the weak side.
- 9:14Speaker 1: So we'll let this play here.
- 9:17Speaker 2: So Kiki's rolling obviously here sometimes it's a cut and
- 9:23Speaker 2: then again drawing too and understanding that you're underneath the
- 9:28Speaker 2: rim and not gonna be own to make it. And
- 9:29Speaker 2: so this is what I'm talking about, Like, this isn't
- 9:31Speaker 2: something that is taught. You guys have developed this through
- 9:34Speaker 2: just playing together. So talk me through this play right here.
- 9:38Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean our team and our coach again, we
- 9:43Speaker 4: love to cut, and my coach like really gets on
- 9:46Speaker 4: us about cutting hard, like don't just cut to just run,
- 9:49Speaker 4: like run through the lane, but really cut hard because
- 9:51Speaker 4: if you're not open, then you might get someone else open.
- 9:55Speaker 4: So that's I mean, that's what I do here. And
- 9:57Speaker 4: Steph again throws an amazing pass leading me, so it's
- 10:01Speaker 4: somewhere that only I can catch the ball and Ryan
- 10:03Speaker 4: is kind of behind, so it's a tricky ball for
- 10:05Speaker 4: her to steal. And then again credit to Kiki because
- 10:10Speaker 4: she could have just stayed where she's at and I
- 10:12Speaker 4: would have never been able to make that pass, but
- 10:14Speaker 4: she had the awareness to cut to the middle, and
- 10:18Speaker 4: that made it an easy pass for me. Like I
- 10:20Speaker 4: saw her numbers, I saw like just split the defense
- 10:24Speaker 4: and that was honestly just an amazing read by her
- 10:26Speaker 4: because if she didn't do that, then that probably would
- 10:29Speaker 4: have been a turnover.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Yeah, but you guys is connection man.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I can only imagine it when when we're talking next
- 10:35Speaker 2: year and the year after.
- 10:37Speaker 1: It's crazy.
- 10:38Speaker 2: So again, the thing I love about you is and
- 10:42Speaker 2: this is how you could tell that you were adjustment
- 10:45Speaker 2: to the NBA was going to be not seamless, because
- 10:49Speaker 2: I don't think any adjustment from one level to another
- 10:51Speaker 2: is seamless. But better than the rest is because you
- 10:55Speaker 2: play at your own pace, Like you're not catching the
- 10:59Speaker 2: ball immediately putting the ball on the floor, you're literally
- 11:03Speaker 2: reading what the defense is doing. And so right here,
- 11:07Speaker 2: going into your dribble hand off, you're not only able
- 11:11Speaker 2: to receive a dribble handoff, you're now able to set
- 11:15Speaker 2: the screen.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Slower bigs, we hate this.
- 11:19Speaker 2: I'll just tell you, slower bigs, we hate this because
- 11:22Speaker 2: guess what, When you're able to hit this screen and
- 11:26Speaker 2: then get out, there's nothing anybody can do. Like Brianna
- 11:31Speaker 2: Stewart used to get me with this all the time
- 11:32Speaker 2: because she's such a mover off the ball, you know
- 11:35Speaker 2: what I mean. And so to watch you utilize this
- 11:37Speaker 2: part of your game and see this part of your
- 11:39Speaker 2: game unlocked as well has been super special. Would you
- 11:42Speaker 2: rather set the screen receive the screen?
- 11:45Speaker 1: Does it matter?
- 11:46Speaker 3: I mean I don't set a lot of screens.
- 11:48Speaker 4: I never really have, just I mean being the two
- 11:51Speaker 4: or three guard, but I do love to set screens.
- 11:55Speaker 4: And our coaches were actually really happy with this because
- 11:58Speaker 4: it was like, this is not a play or something
- 12:01Speaker 4: we practice. It was just like a in the moment
- 12:04Speaker 4: kind of thing. I know Emily was playing the four
- 12:07Speaker 4: right now, but she's very guard like and she has
- 12:10Speaker 4: she's an amazing passer like she always finds me. So
- 12:13Speaker 4: when I was dribbling to her and pasted it, I
- 12:16Speaker 4: was like, if I cut, there's a ninety percent chance
- 12:19Speaker 4: that Emily is gonna find me, and she did because again,
- 12:23Speaker 4: she's one of the best passers on our team. And
- 12:25Speaker 4: I also think because it's not part of the offense
- 12:28Speaker 4: and it's not scripted, I think the defenders didn't really
- 12:30Speaker 4: know what to do either, like do they switch this.
- 12:32Speaker 3: Do theybus stay away?
- 12:34Speaker 4: Technically, yeah, yeah she was playing I think, yeah, she's
- 12:38Speaker 4: playing the four right now.
- 12:39Speaker 3: But like you said, she's also a guard.
- 12:42Speaker 4: So just kind of causing that confusion was something that
- 12:45Speaker 4: our coaches were really happy about. And just playing free
- 12:48Speaker 4: like it wasn't scripted, like just do like doing things
- 12:51Speaker 4: like this confuses them just as much.
- 12:52Speaker 2: So it was well like playing out of broken plays.
- 12:55Speaker 2: I think you will see that more in the WBA.
- 12:57Speaker 2: You have to because defense is so good, athleticism all
- 13:00Speaker 2: that stuff. But I think the thing I want to
- 13:02Speaker 2: note on this as well is a lot of people
- 13:05Speaker 2: pick and roll, and you take your big foot and
- 13:07Speaker 2: you roll your butt into the defender when you know
- 13:10Speaker 2: that they're.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Not underneath you.
- 13:13Speaker 2: I love the way that you just ran out of this,
- 13:16Speaker 2: so it's an over the shoulder immediate that's really hard
- 13:19Speaker 2: to guard as opposed to you were giving the defender
- 13:21Speaker 2: another second if you drop your foot and roll on this.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Yeah, so good job, good work. So this again.
- 13:29Speaker 2: You're in this action a lot, sometimes with the dribble
- 13:32Speaker 2: handoff with the post player at the top, sometimes just
- 13:35Speaker 2: a straight down screen. Here you got my real rookie,
- 13:39Speaker 2: Chelsea Gray on you. Okay, I'm a critique, Chelsea. She
- 13:43Speaker 2: didn't get up in your body enough, so I won't
- 13:45Speaker 2: tell her. She does a good job making you kind
- 13:49Speaker 2: of go backdoor.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Amazing back screen.
- 13:54Speaker 2: And then because of the screen you set, you were
- 13:59Speaker 2: able to get the defender on top because they have
- 14:01Speaker 2: to switch the guard to guard switch.
- 14:08Speaker 1: And this is an underrated skill.
- 14:10Speaker 2: Sometimes people ask me who the best screener in the
- 14:12Speaker 2: NBA is, and I think at times Steph Curry might
- 14:15Speaker 2: be that. And the reason why he gets open is
- 14:18Speaker 2: because he sets great screens. It makes the defense have
- 14:23Speaker 2: to make a choice. And right here, yep, you're able
- 14:27Speaker 2: to get Jackie hung on on top. And then instead
- 14:30Speaker 2: of just coming up off the handoff, you understand this
- 14:34Speaker 2: is kind of like that San Antonio Monogenobili action.
- 14:36Speaker 1: You weren't born then either.
- 14:38Speaker 2: But that back cut right there is this This is
- 14:41Speaker 2: a set drop out of time out right.
- 14:43Speaker 4: This play, Yeah, it's one of our yeah sets and
- 14:48Speaker 4: it has different reads to it.
- 14:50Speaker 3: And so I mean I can try and curl it.
- 14:52Speaker 4: I can if they top lock me, don't just I
- 14:55Speaker 4: can set the screen for the post. I can backdoor
- 14:57Speaker 4: like it kind of gives me a lot of freedom.
- 15:00Speaker 3: But I remember this game.
- 15:02Speaker 4: Uh they wanted me to go back door yep and
- 15:06Speaker 4: set this page her.
- 15:08Speaker 1: On top, and yes, but I just love that you
- 15:11Speaker 1: don't rush.
- 15:12Speaker 2: There's I mean, you could have rushed this saw that
- 15:15Speaker 2: she was on top, but you take your time and doing.
- 15:19Speaker 1: A do a great job of setting that up.
- 15:22Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 15:22Speaker 1: All Right, we're gonna watch this make space again this action.
- 15:29Speaker 2: This time the culprit is Jewel Lloyd. You just set
- 15:32Speaker 2: the backscreen. Now Jackie Young does a better job of
- 15:38Speaker 2: not getting on top, right because they know it's coming.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Yeah, you went back door before. Now you're setting it up.
- 15:44Speaker 2: I love this when I tell you move in a
- 15:47Speaker 2: counter move is all you need in the WBA and
- 15:50Speaker 2: your ability to on the play before, set a meme, backscreen,
- 15:55Speaker 2: get her on top, backcut, get the layup, and then
- 15:59Speaker 2: you put the defense on their heels. This time you
- 16:01Speaker 2: scream and then you come out for the three. These
- 16:05Speaker 2: are all just reads, you just reading and reacting.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:08Speaker 4: Uh so just again, they wanted me like I could've
- 16:11Speaker 4: used the screen, but this game specifically, uh because the
- 16:15Speaker 4: backscreen was working. My coaches were like, just go back door,
- 16:18Speaker 4: don't don't even use the screen. Go into the back
- 16:20Speaker 4: screen and then it's just me and my teammate playing.
- 16:23Speaker 4: So I try to read, like if they switch, just
- 16:26Speaker 4: try and shoot.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Out of it. Sometimes I get a.
- 16:29Speaker 4: Little stuck, like what, I kind of got stuck over there, cause,
- 16:32Speaker 4: like you said, she switched not better this time, but
- 16:36Speaker 4: switched on the other side. And yeah, I think again,
- 16:41Speaker 4: stef is setting a great screen for me. So Jackie
- 16:44Speaker 4: and Chelsea don't know if they're switching or not, cause
- 16:46Speaker 4: I'm kind of in that gray area and Steph does
- 16:50Speaker 4: a great job of kind of boxing Chelsea out, so
- 16:52Speaker 4: I get that open shot.
- 16:53Speaker 2: I'm just laughing because if you just look at Chelsea's face,
- 16:56Speaker 2: you knows she'dnet messed up.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Look, let's watch it when we're not right here. Look
- 17:02Speaker 1: at Jaggie's face. Jaggie knows she's like switch, but you're
- 17:05Speaker 1: supposed to switch to touch.
- 17:06Speaker 3: I know.
- 17:06Speaker 2: I know Becky played this in film over and over
- 17:08Speaker 2: late is look at this, look.
- 17:09Speaker 1: At Telsea's face.
- 17:12Speaker 2: All right, we've broken down your game on the court.
- 17:15Speaker 2: Now I want to give you a few situations and
- 17:17Speaker 2: you can tell me how you've handled them.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Now that you're a pro.
- 17:20Speaker 4: I'm gonna grab my coach bag. Oh okay, yes are different.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Now I have a coach bag. And that was a rookie.
- 17:30Speaker 1: All right, and read the scenario aloud, then discuss how
- 17:34Speaker 1: you would react to it.
- 17:35Speaker 4: You are constantly getting hacked by your defender playing physical.
- 17:38Speaker 4: How do you stay within your game and what adjustments
- 17:41Speaker 4: do you make? I think this is something that I'm
- 17:44Speaker 4: actually not struggling with but learning.
- 17:47Speaker 3: To play through right now. The first two.
- 17:50Speaker 4: Games I kind of got by with just doing what
- 17:52Speaker 4: I wanted and then they were like okay, no like
- 17:55Speaker 4: and now they're just playing way more physical as they
- 17:58Speaker 4: as they should.
- 17:58Speaker 3: But I think the first thing is.
- 18:01Speaker 4: I've learned, and I'm learning from my coaches and s
- 18:04Speaker 4: Uh Brittany psych Slim has really been helping me too,
- 18:07Speaker 4: is a physical defender is actually easier to beat sometimes,
- 18:12Speaker 4: and that's yo you have to use their physical against them.
- 18:18Speaker 4: So I'm kind of learning how to do that, and
- 18:20Speaker 4: like you said in the film, like doing counter movements.
- 18:24Speaker 4: So if you want to go left, go right first.
- 18:27Speaker 4: So kind of is doing I think little tricks like
- 18:29Speaker 4: that has been helping me, and I gotta do that more.
- 18:33Speaker 4: I think sometimes it does speed me up, So I
- 18:35Speaker 4: just need to learn like I don't have to go
- 18:37Speaker 4: fast to get open or to get past a physical defender.
- 18:41Speaker 4: If anything, I should take my time, get into their body,
- 18:45Speaker 4: not let them initiate contact, but me initiate it, and
- 18:48Speaker 4: then counter movements like.
- 18:49Speaker 3: You talked about.
- 18:50Speaker 4: So that's what I would do, but I would love
- 18:52Speaker 4: to hear what you would do so I can get
- 18:54Speaker 4: better at it.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Well, I think your pace is excellent. I think you
- 18:59Speaker 2: just cantinue to play at your own pace. It doesn't
- 19:01Speaker 2: have to be the fastest man doesn't win. And you know,
- 19:05Speaker 2: I think just being able to change your pace really
- 19:08Speaker 2: puts the defense on the heels. So you're continuing to
- 19:11Speaker 2: learn that. And Sonya, thank you so much for sitting down.
- 19:15Speaker 2: I have had so much fun watching you play. I
- 19:18Speaker 2: cannot wait to see how your.
- 19:20Speaker 1: Game continues to evolve. And you and.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Kiki got something special Bruin for the Mystic so I
- 19:27Speaker 2: cannot wait to check out a game this year.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Good luck, stay healthy and enjoy your rookie.
- 19:31Speaker 3: Thank you, thank you so much
